Default Virtual Quidditch v.12

Welcome to the Twelfth edition of Virtual Quidditch!

This game was originally started by Quantamus during the earliest years of SnitchSeeker back in 2003. Thanks to the multiple hands and, more importantly, you, it has continued appearing out of dedication and love. Those familiar with this game can vouch for how much of a blast it is to play! But first, it is mandatory to read the rules listed below before playing so that the game goes as smoothly as possible in this revamped version. Your referees, Charely Potter and FearlessLeader19 will be monitoring and keeping track of the score, so please read them carefully.

Text Cut: House Teams
There are four set teams in Virtual Quidditch: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. All four teams play at the same time against one another. You will play for the primary House that you have been sorted into via the SnitchSeeker Sorting Quiz. If you're sorted into more than one house, it is the first house banner listed under your username. Hogwarts RPG staff will play as the first Hogwarts house listed in their post bit. If unsure, you can contact Charely Potter or FearlessLeader19 if you want to know which house you're meant to play as.

Not sorted into either of the Hogwarts Houses? That's okay, you can still play the game! Unsorted members can choose one of the four House teams to play as and must stick to it until they are officially placed. Unsorted members, as well as Hogwarts RPG staff, and their House selection will be compiled here for reference upon their first post in the game.

If you see your name on the list and have already been sorted, please contact either of the Virtual Quidditch referees so that you can be taken off the unsorted member list.
Text Cut: How-to-Play
Virtual Quidditch follows the format of Quidditch, but in text-form on a forum with some differences. For one, you aren't restricted to playing as one position (Keeper, Chaser, Beater, Seeker). This game operates on a moves-and-results basis. When making a move in Virtual Quidditch (passing, shooting, sending a Bludger, etc.), you can only post your intention – not the outcome. Bullet posting (making multiple posts in immediate succession) is not allowed. You must rely on your fellow teammates to help complete each move as you had hoped, or on your opposition to foil your attempts.

Scoring/Points

Quaffle Scored: 10 points
Catching the Snitch: 150 points, end of round

SPOILER!!: Correct & Incorrect Moves
Here are some examples of CORRECT moves:
  • Gryffindor shoots the Quaffle!
  • Ravenclaw passes the Quaffle to a fellow Eagle chaser!
  • Slytherin whacks a Bludger toward the Hufflepuff chaser!
Here are some examples of INCORRECT moves:
  • Gryffindor shoots and scores!
  • Ravenclaw passes the Quaffle and the pass is successful!
  • Slytherin whacks a Bludger at the Hufflepuff chaser and it knocks the Quaffle out of her hands! Snakes with the Quaffle.
SPOILER!!: Results
A result is the outcome of a move. The results of a move are determined by the next person who posts.

Here are some examples of possible results:
  • Gryffindor scores! The Quaffle is up (for grabs).
  • Hufflepuff snags the released Quaffle and races toward the other end of the pitch.
  • Ravenclaw catches the Quaffle and zooms off toward the hoops.
  • Slytherin intercepts the Quaffle and flips a 180.
  • The bludger connects! Gryffindor catches the falling Quaffle and speeds off.
  • Hufflepuff dodges the Bludger and zooms on.

Here is a (really simple) breakdown of possible moves for each ball:
  • Quaffle: The Quaffle can be shot, scored, blocked, passed, caught, or intercepted.
  • Bludger: The Bludger can be hit toward another team, make contact (knocking away the Quaffle), or be dodged.
  • Snitch: The Snitch can be sighted or be caught.
SPOILER!!: Late Posts
In the event that late posts occur, the first move is always the most recent. For example:
[1:06 AM] - Slytherin scores! Quaffle up.
[1:07 AM] - Gryffindor gets the Quaffle!
[1:07 AM] - Ravenclaw grabs the Quaffle and zooms!
In this case, the Ravenclaw poster is late. Therefore, each subsequent move should be based on Gryffindor having possession of the Quaffle.

This also applies to Bludgers:
[2:16 PM] - Hufflepuff zooms...
[2:17 PM] - Gryffindor sends a Bludger toward the Hufflepuff chaser!
[2:17 PM] - Hufflepuff shoots!
In this case, the Hufflepuff poster is late; therefore, Gryffindor sending the Bludger is the most recent valid move and any posts afterward should be in response to the Bludger. If another Hufflepuff were to post that Hufflepuff scored, the points would not count.

If you make a post that is late or at the same time as someone else, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to go back and edit that your post was late so as to not confuse the other players. However, the referees will keep an eye out for these sorts of events and account for them as per the rules.

IMPORTANT:
  1. Once your team is in possession of the Quaffle, a non-shooting move MUST occur prior to scoring (this can be zooming, passing, etc.). In short, there must be FOUR moves to score: possession, non-shooting, shooting, scoring. This applies to each time the Quaffle changes possession. For example, if Gryffindor loses possession and Hufflepuff recovers the Quaffle, Hufflepuff cannot immediately shoot. They must "zoom" or pass first.
  2. Points made from illegal moves will not be counted.
  3. Make sure that, when you are sending a Bludger, you specify to whom you are sending it.
  4. If you score with the Quaffle, please remember to re-release it in your post.
  5. Absolutely no abusing of other players. This includes any physical contact ranging from stealing the Quaffle straight out of their arms to kicking them in the face to knock them off their brooms. Such conduct will result in an immediate banning of the game.

Text Cut: Catching the Snitch
Catching the Snitch is tricky, rarely sighted, and difficult to catch, especially in Virtual Quidditch. Only the referees can release the , then it is up to you, the player, to spot it.

The snitch could be found in a variety of ways; hidden in the referee's post via image link, written in a light font color, or a visible emoji in their latest post/signature. If the Snitch has been released for more than one month without anyone posting its sighting, the referee will hint that it is on the loose.

Here are some examples of Snitch sightings:
  1. Gryffindor shoots the Quaffle as the Seeker spots the Snitch!
  2. Ravenclaw dodges the Bludger and continues down the pitch. The Seeker has found the Snitch!
  3. Slytherin scores! The Seekers are after the Snitch!
To catch the Snitch, three DIFFERENT players (from any of the Houses) must spot it, and each must mention the word ‘Snitch’ in their post for it to be counted as legitimate. The fourth player to spot the Snitch gets to post "(House) catches the Snitch!" The final requirement is that the player catching the snitch includes a link to the post for which the Snitch was released/spotted.

After the Snitch has been caught, the referee will tally up the final scores, announce the winner, and another round will commence.
