The Three Broomsticks is the most well-known pub in the small village, which is why it is often rather crowded with students and adults alike. The outside of the building is a good preview of what the inside may look like with the same steep roof as the surrounding buildings with a sign featuring the legendary three broomsticks, all fixed around a lantern to light the patrons' way. It certainly looks better kept than the Hog's Head down the street.
Once you enter the pub, the warmth of the large stone fireplace great you as you place hats and coats by the door. Directly in front of you there are tables and booths lining the majority of the small hall with oil lamps placed on each one. On winter days it is usually hard to find a place beside the large fire grate; however, if you're early enough, you can bet your galleons that you'll be nice and toasty by the fire. To the left is the bar where the bartender waits to take your order.

You know what was sad? The Three Broomsticks not having any of the crunchy, cheesy junk food that was Cheese Puffs. Yes, the oldest Paton child was obsessed with those. On the bright side, she’d be bugging her dad to get her some soon. After all, he ventured out so often to London for work; the man could easily run an errand for her.
As it was, the seventh year Slytherin ordered herself a mac and cheese as well as a Butterbeer then settled herself at one of the booths. She had strategically chosen one so that she’d be able to watch the door and all who ventured in and out of the place. Most importantly, she’d be able to spot Franklin and Byrony Paton whenever they decided to show their faces. At least her family was in one central place, and if her mum continued to teach at Hogwarts, then Hogsmeade would be Nova’s home when she graduated next year.

Kennedy usually liked to be in Hogsmeade with his twin, Ben, but he had gotten food sick, to where, here he was by his lonesome self. That wasn't so bad, he could get a butterbeer, maybe see some of his other friends and hang out or just get some sweets and call it a day. O.W.L studies took his usual free time, anyway.
After getting his drink and a grilled turkey sandwich, he searched around for a seat. Of course... everywhere was packed quickly. But he did see someone.. familiar or well, of a sort. She did give him a hair wash so to speak. Would he risk another chance of a needed shower? Pfft, of course. It was Kennedy after all.
"Hellooo, I come in peace.. this time," Kennedy smiled as he eyes her food. Looked good, just like his.

While Marilyn didn't want to impose upon the students getting some fresh air and socializing in the wizarding village, she also wasn't born yesterday. The Charms Professor figured what better time to get to know some of her colleagues better, whilst simultaneously keeping an eye for unruly students? She was grateful that Celeste seemed willing to meet her here.
Settling into a booth in the corner of the three broomsticks, she propped the menu up to peruse while she awaited the arrival of her peer.

While she had certainly been back to Hogsmeade since her own graduation, given she lived up in Scotland year-round afterwards, being there surrounded by her students certainly brought back memories for Celeste. Fun times with Jess while they both exasperated Nate who was being a gentleman and escort. Dragging Damien on a proper date the year they were together at Hogwarts. Ah the memories that thankfully were mostly good.
Pushing through the door of the Three Broomsticks to meet up with her colleague, the astronomy professor looked around and took in her surroundings. Not much had changed, other than perhaps the clothing trends of the students escaping their school uniforms. Celeste spotted Marilyn in one of the booths in a corner and made her way over, carefully dodging a waitress with a tray of food. “All behaving so far,” she mused as she took a seat of her own.

They would probably both agree though that visiting someplace with your kids was different from visiting with colleagues. Her mind drifted off to her boys and she wondered about their experiences in this pub. She wondered if she failed them by not inquiring? She always wanted to give them their space but perhaps that wasn't to their benefit?
Her thoughts were interrupted at Celeste's arrival, much to Marilyn's gratitude and she set the menu down and glanced around. "I should hope so. I think most probably know that this is a privilege that could be revoked at any time." Well the older ones at least. "At least nothing catastrophic. Firewhiskey drinker or something else?" She for one could use something strong.

Her dashing father and youngest sister were not who she saw.
Nova’s eyes fixated on Kennedy as though silently willing him not to come in her direction. Honestly, that boy seemed to not be able to leave her. Sadly for her, Kennedy approached her booth. Her gaze had not budged from his stupid face all this while. Hadn’t he gotten her silent message? Hadn’t that recent happening of her dumping liquid on his head not teach him anything?
Clearly not. He was glutton for punishment apparently.
“What do you want, Potter?” Nova’s eyes had narrowed dangerously, an indication that he’d better choose his next words carefully.

“Aye…especially for the younger ones.” For when she was in school…Gideon’s too if she remembered correctly from giving her permission, it had still been a limited treat for the older students to visit. “And nah mysterious time witch lurking around.” That had been a story she remembered from the time of her kids…the proof being Gideon’s unfortunate loss of his wand to the woman. She hadn’t learned of such troubles lately.
“Firewhiskey is fine…” She could drink…in moderation…she wasn’t a complete embarrassment to her Scottish blood. The woman had spotted some older students around the place but for the most part all was well.

"Yes it's probably those I'm most concerned about." The colour flushed from her cheeks at Celeste's next words. Time thief witch. Marilyn hadn't thought about that woman in decades and she wondered what had become of her. She vaguely recalled the tabloids capturing her, but did she escape? Was she killed? The woman was centuries old after all. "Thank Merlin. We don't need more time thieves. So what do you recall of her capture?" But as she asked the question, another memory came to mind. The Gryffindor Prefect that year. Gert. "Wait. Were you.... are you related to Gideon Gert?" She swallowed, wondering why it had taken her so long to put it together.
"Two firewhiskeys and some garlic bread to share then. I'll go place the order unless you wanted something else?" She gave the astronomy professor a questioning look as she rose from her seat.

Well she remembered that a few of her son’s friends and classmates had had to testify only for her to escape. However, before Celeste could answer, something had clicked with her colleague. Are you related to Gideon Gert? Had Marilyn known him in school? Was that the reason the mention of the witch had caused the reaction from her companion. The older woman wasn’t the greatest in pegging ages. The only reason she knew Escalante was the same age was because the two young men had been student leaders together.
“Aye…he’s my son,” she confirmed with a nod to the affirmative before shaking her head as Marilyn got up to take care of their order. “Nah…that’s perfect.” Drinks and a light nosh. And perhaps reminiscing now that the connection had been made. Sort of.

It was also quite a long time ago, considering both her sons had since graduated albeit quite recently. Also having grown kids and an unexpected grandchild of her own probably makes her seem older too. But despite being the stereotypical friendly Hufflepuff, she hadn't really kept too much contact with her graduating class. That and both Escalante and Gert were probably too popular/cool for her muggle oldies music loving pureblood self. They were student leaders. She was a nobody. And she tried to keep herself a nobody, given her older cousin's popularity who had graduated/been head boy just two years before her arrival to Hogwarts.
After placing the order, she returned to the seat. "So ... your son. I think... we graduated together?" But she wasn't counting on him remembering her. For one, she wasn't Marilyn Sayse back then and two, she kept that low-profile.

Or else…
Kennedy didn't know what drove him to go to Nova. Well, there were some things but nothing outside the superficial means. So he may have said certain things to get a bit of the cold shoulder and shower in return. But here he was, attempting to make peace.... right?
"A charming wizard like me can't say hello?" Kennedy asked. Where did this come from? No one in his immediately family was this bold.. Or at least admitted to it. "I'm kidding, but I would like to sit with you and maybe make up for our last... situation," Would she say yes? Did he have to beg? He probably would have to beg.

Celeste turned her attention briefly to people watching as she was momentarily left alone by her companion. The students around seemed to be all in order, both inside and through the windows that lined the streets. “Really?” she asked almost rhetorically when it was Marilyn’s turn to mention the possibility upon her return to the table. “A small world it seems,” she remarked with a nod.
“Though I doubt he’d remember…nothing to do with ye...just he having done his best to block out most of his school memories,” she added with a sigh and a shake of the head. A testimony to him sharing his father’s stubbornness and her passion…cutting off seven years of memories for one broken heart. Albeit to one that he had planned to propose to after they had graduated. Now those were dark days while he was in university, the woman thankful he had eventually found his calling and a happier life though alas alone.

Nova too didn't know why it was that Kennedy could not leave her alone. He was persistent, she’d give him that much. Too bad for him that his persistence mostly annoyed her; at other times she was highly entertained. Hmm. The aspiring Auror could use some entertainment. Perhaps she’d allow Kennedy the opportunity to be in her delightful company.
The Slytherin shot the Gryffindor an expression of haughty derision. “Charming? You? Puh-lease, Potter. Don’t flatter yourself.” Well have yourself a merry little surprise, Kennedy. Nova was about to make your day. “Fine.” She motioned to the seat opposite of her. “If you’re gluten for punishment, be my guest.”
Auden shuffled into the Three Broomsticks, her eyes wide. It was the look she’d been sporting since she first opened up her Hogwarts acceptance letter all those months ago. The perpetual deer in headlights look (albeit one with bangs) of a muggleborn attempting to acclimate into magical society having previously only dreamed of its existence.
Always surprised, always looking this way and that to try to just absorb as much magical detail as possible. Her brain constantly felt like it was running a mile a minute just to process her surroundings. Never ending intrusive thoughts like…What was that? Who was that? Was the hearth magical itself or did the proprietor simply magic normal fire into it? What charm was used? Did you have to uncharm it to put it out or could it be put out normally? Wait, was that a word? Did one “uncharm” something?
Her thoughts spiraling into yet another rabbit hole, the short almost twelve year old (to her the distinction was important) made her way down the booths and tables and took a seat at a random empty one.
She pressed her lips together tightly as she evaluated the menu. The better to prevent her thoughts from evolving into the dreaded word vomit her old teachers always warned her she needed to reign in. So far this year she’d been marginally successful. Actually maybe too successful considering she’d been so quiet she’d yet to make any real friends. But at least no one thought she was “weird” and “talked too much” or whatever other things they said about her back in elementary. Then again…maybe being so quiet was weird in itself.
Upset with the direction her thoughts were headed, Auden shook her head a bit in an attempt to focus. She’d come here for a reason. She was hungry. Now concentrate…grilled cheese sandwich or macaroni and cheese…?

Diamond had not ventured over to this side of Hogsmeade just yet. Well, no...actually that was kind of a lie since she had been over this way already and her booted footprints in the snow outside that were zigging and zagging all over the place were evidence of that...but she hadn't actually stayed in this particular vicinity for more than a couple of seconds. So the Three Broomsticks, exterior and interior, had not yet received the Carat Patch treatment. Whistling a tune off of Joshua Miller's latest EP, the Gryffindor rummaged through her bag for a sticker and slapped it just above the doorknob into the restaurant before stepping inside herself. Naturally, she slapped another one on one of the wooden pillars she passed as she made her way over towards a table to drop her things off when she spotted a fellow first year and immediately altered her flight path to intercept.
Of course she recognized the girl seeing as Diamond had a very vested interest on keeping tabs on the first year Ravenclaw dorms, but the name was slipping her thoughts currently. She wasn't too fussed about this however. Mum had taught her plenty of tricks of the gab to help with the gift of the gab when you couldn't remember something crucial about a guest on air. Workarounds and the like. She was practically a professional.
"You can't really go wrong with dessert," she spoke with a little wiggle of the fingers towards the menu on the wall. Well, you could if it was stale and it wasn't like the Three Broomsticks was the wizarding world's finest dining experience, but it did okay. "Unless you aren't looking to appease your sweet tooth. A lot of the entrees are a little overpriced for their quality...but the tomato soup and macaroni and cheese are my recommendation for getting the more chew for your coin."

Cheese was a must today. Even if technically she did have a slight allergy to milk products. That didn't stop her from enjoying the heavenly food. It wasn't like she couldn't handle dairy at all. Her stomach tolerated it just fine- she would just happen to get a slight little rash on her upper arms and maybe get a stuffy nose. It wasn't as if it made her bowels explode or anything-
Hearing a voice, Auden looked up from the menu and opened her mouth with the foremost thought in her head. "I can tolerate lactose!"
Wait what?! That's not what normal people said at all. No one had asked to know that. Blinking owlishly at the girl before her, she tried to concentrate on what the girl had said. "That is, err...I mean I am not lactose intolerant…” Oh poopsicles, that wasn't much better. If her Dad was here, he'd probably snicker and say something like 'Hello NotLactoseIntolerant I'm Dad' and she'd roll her eyes and--Focus Auden, focus!
Clearing her throat, she tried again. "Sorry, I mean I’m Auden and yeah, I think I will get the Mac and cheese then. Thanks for the recommendation.
Now that something understandable had finally come out of her mouth, Auden really looked at the girl before her and smiled in recognition. Or well, tried to. It might've resembled more of an embarrassed grimace. "Hey you're Diamond, right? I recognize you from our classes." There-that was something normal people said right? And it was the total truth. She did recognize her. More than recognize her, really. She was the most popular girl in their grade! Auden wished she was more like her since the young witch seemed so confident in her own skin, and she was well decidedly not.

Known to be a bit of an oversharer herself, Diamond did not think too much about her fellow first year's proclamations. Well, no...that was kind of a lie because she was instantly suspicious of the validity of the statements since they had been offered so unprompted and so adamantly. Either outcome, truth or not truth, was not of any real consequence to herself and thus the Gryffindor felt no need to question it.
"I mean...good for you," she laughed while offering two thumbs up in solidarity or whatever. "And if you weren't...were...whatever..." she continued with a little wave of the hand. "...there is a potion and whatever to fix that up. You only live once, right?" She did know a thing or two about taking allergy potions for things. Meanwhile...she thought she might go with a nice tomato soup. Maybe ask for extra croutons on the side that she could soak and dip into it for texture. Too much smooth and mushy was really unpleasant.
"Mmmhmm, that's me," she confirmed with a grin and little jab of the thumb at her chest while her other hand swung around and slapped a sticker into the other girl's hand. With the paper backing still on it, mind you, and not with the intention of applying the sticker to her palm. "A pleasure, truly, Auden. So much better than just making eye contact from across the classroom. Wild we haven't hung out more you know. What with our towers being pretty close together and Theia being one of my bestest friends. Suppose we are fixing that now though, yeah? OH, wait...I just had the most brilliant idea for some content. We should eat the menu! Or like...a section of the menu."
She was a growing girl but her stomach could only hold SO much.
As soon as Diamond had hyped herself up about this concept, she was reminded of the prices and what she had literally just told the other girl about things being overpriced.
"...maybe the menu at Espresso Patronum or Florean Fortescue's, actually. Put a pin in that thought," she concluded with a firm nod and a couple of pats to the girl's back.

Grinning despite her embarrassment, Auden instantly felt better when she saw Diamond give her a thumbs up. Her validation was heart warming and - Wait, what…there’s a potion for that?! Auden almost wanted to smack her forehead with an open palm. Of course there was a potion for that! Why hadn’t she thought of that sooner!? It made so much sense. So much sense that she really had to question her intelligence in that moment. Her only saving grace really was that she was a muggle born with still limited knowledge of this magical way of living. Nevertheless, mental note: Stop by the hospital wing and inquire about that asap!
She couldn’t help a little laugh at Diamond’s introduction. ” Yeah, it is wild.”
Aiming a curious glance down at her hand, she turned the sticker towards her and grinned at the carrot. Or should she say carat. It was cute but it seemed to have a purpose. Wait- did she just say content?
Her hearing suddenly focused on the tail end of what the Gryffindor was saying.
”Oh I’d love to eat the menu!” she blurted out before the girl was even finished speaking and then quieted as Diamond patted her back. “But yeah…totally…we’ll wait for another time. Maybe we can come back next Hogsmeade weekend with Theia? The more hungry stomachs the better?”
Her smile felt a little too big as she said that. Was it too obvious she was ecstatic about the idea of being friends? Aaaand about finding out about what she meant by content and carat…she should probably ask…
”So…umm,” she continued in a rush hoping it wasn’t rude to ask. ”Do you really like carrots?”

Was it just her or was her friend with the amazing bangs going on quite the facial journey over something so basic as allergy potions? Diamond had never really given them much consideration outside of those times she had obviously needed them, but different chirps for different chickens or whatever.
"Sensational," the Gryffindor beamed and wiggled her finger across her forehead with swirls of varying roundness and length. She was, actually, writing the idea on her forehead as a quirky form of osmosis. It too was wild, but it was a technique that worked quite well for her. She had tried writing on her palm and then swallowing it, but it was a basic rule of living that what went IN to your stomach would eventually come OUT so that was not a great action for retaining information and ideas. "Oh tooooootally. More hungry stomachs and more niches to fill to boot." The three of them did have vastly different personalities, therefore different opinions and points of view, and that would appeal to a wider audience.
"Good question," Diamond continued without missing a beat. "I'm allergic, actually. So they have this whole kind of forbidden fruit vibe that I like."

"Good question," Diamond continued without missing a beat. "I'm allergic, actually. So they have this whole kind of forbidden fruit vibe that I like."
"Oh you're allergic?!" Auden's first instinct was to smile because hey she'd found someone else with a random food allergy but instantly she realized that wasn't the appropriate response. She understood the allure of forbidden fruit or in this case forbidden veggies as it were and in her own case forbidden cheese.
Turning her gaze into one of sympathy, she reached out to pat the girl's hand. " Oh gosh that blows. I'm sorry. she tried to think of something reassuring to add. "If it's any consolation, you're not missing much! I mean it's a glorified stick version of a sweet potato really."
Except in like carrot cake. Carrot cake was actually delicious and probably wouldn't taste anywhere near as tasty if it were made with sweet potatoes. Then again maybe it'd taste better-Her rambling internal monologue suddenly came to an abrupt halt as she realized the girl had already mentioned allergy potions so she'd probably already tried carrots. Maybe she'd been eating them for years. Hopefully, she hadn't offended her. Because either way it was still a hassle to have to take a potion to enjoy what others might consider a regular ol root vegetable. So her apology was still applicable right?
Playing with the sticker between her fingers, she looked at the girl curiously now. " These are super cute though. Did you make them yourself?"
And speaking of carrots which were food and she was hungry...maybe Diamond was hungry right now too. She'd mentioned wanting to try the whole menu after all. Sliding off her seat with a little hop, she gestured toward the bar. " I think I'm going to place my order for the Mac and cheese and a butter beer. Would you like anything?" Because it was totally her treat. Her parents had made sure to exchange euros for galleons at Gringotts over winter break and had given her sufficient spending monies. Since the young Ravenclaw had been too shy to leave the school even before that, she had essentially just been saving up until this point so she had more than enough to cover her friendly expenses now.

"Mmhmm," Diamond nodded nonchalantly, as if she were simply agreeing with the color of her jumper or the simple equation of one plus one equating two. "So it's all a metaphor of sorts, you see. You take the thing that can poison you and you don't eat it but turn it into the logo of your branding. Pair that with the name Diamond and the quality of a diamond being counted in carats and then mix that up with carrot patches...viola!" No she was not doing the best of jobs selling the concept right now but she also wasn't in a pitch meeting nor on air with the WWN.
So, in a way, the Gyffindor had answered all her question in one fell swoop. Save for one.
"I did. Well...mum helped a bit with it since she does this sort of thing for a living. You're welcome to as many as you'd like," she offered as a modest afterthought with a smile. "Oh, I'll go up with you and order. I'm really vibing with the idea of a cheese sandwich and cup of tomato soup to dip it in."
And while she was back to thinking about food and starting her playful sashay up to the counter... "Glorified stick version of a sweet potato?" she repeated with a laugh. "You really think so?"

Carrots, diamond, carats…Aaaaahh it made a bit more sense now!
Relaxing a bit more as she got to know her new friend a little better, Auden smiled fully. ”That’s so neat that’s your mom helps with that! What is it she does?” The young muggleborn was originally going to ask What does she do with stickers? but she figured maybe she was misunderstanding something. The magical world and all it’s available jobs were still very much a mystery to her so she didn’t want to assume anything. Maybe magical stickers were a big thing?
But first food. ”Yeah, totally! They aren’t all that. And I mean technically spinach is better for your eyes so it’s not like it’s the only good veggie for that.” Not that she particularly liked spinach…I mean it was alright in a salad with other mixed greens but by itself…eh.
Placing their orders at the bar before going back to their seats, the young Ravenclaw waited for Diamond.

It was cold!
Well, not just cold but freezing. Even with her warm clothing, Nova shivered from the temperature and from the relief of stepping into the glorious warmth which was the Three Broomsticks. Pulling her Slytherin scarf only slightly from around her neck and face, the seventh year made her way to the counter to order two mugs of butterbeer.
Don’t be silly. There was no way that Nova could consume both mugs. The other was for her precious mama, with whom she was having a date with today. Nova went ahead and found herself a spot that was easily noticeable from the door. This was, Hady would not miss her daughter sitting there all diligent and lady-like.

It was a bit cold out today. Hady hoped each of her children were dressed for the weather. What was she talking about, she knew that they all were, she had seen each one of them earlier that morning before they all headed out towards Hogsmeade for the day. The three youngest no doubt going off to meet up with their friends as they did their shopping and explored the little town. Her eldest she would be meeting up with in only moments as they had agreed to meet up for some mama, daughter time. These were always special times, beautiful moments when she got some one of one time with her children.
Opening the door to the Three Broomsticks and stepping inside, Hady stepped inside, her gaze already seeking out Nova. It only took but a second for her to locate her. "When did you get so grown up?" she asked with a soft smile.
