Monday mornings were always a challenge for lessons but the first Monday after the Christmas break was no doubt one of the hardest. Especially when it came to something as tedious as Potion brewing. But Professor Adara was well equipped for today's lesson and general exhaustion today would no doubt bring. She would have included leftover Holiday Chocolates should they needed a pick-me-up, but having a strict no food or drink policy in the Potions laboratory negated that. She was more than willing to offer them in her office or corridor should they need.
As far as ingredients on display - there was only a handful of ingredients - how curious indeed as the ingredients appeared to be unlabeled except for a letter on each that the professor knew what was in each container
"Good morning, welcome back. Take your seats and we'll begin shortly."
Lesson Progression
* Question 1: what potion we're brewing today? If no ideas on the potion, if you noticed the ingredients are unlabeled. Any ideas what you could use to help identify the ingredients?
* Potion brewing: steps 1-5; steps 6-14; final steps 15-18 + bottling and sampling if you'd like
*
Greer was also a little excited for Potions - it was a subject she found facinating! And she was rather quick to figure it out but she was like that with almost everything. She smiled at the Professor as she walked in "Hello Professor" She added as she took her seat and took out some parchment and a quill - getting ready to take notes as any good Ravenclaw would.
She was rather curious about the unnamed ingriedents in front of her.

Why on earth anxiety would be ideal to accompany the students to this potions lesson was beyond Ary. Not that he was spending any time dwelling on it. Quite anxiety-free, the Slytherin arrived for the lesson. He thought it was great to be back since he had sort of missed attending certain classes. Potions had been one of them.
Spotting Adara, Aryan greeted her with a smile and the usual friendly finger greeting then made his way to a workstation. Er… why were there so little ingredients lurking around today? How very strange. Perhaps it had something to do with anxiety? Were they supposed to be anxious about the small number of the ingredients here today?

Beauden stifled a yawn as he settled into his seat, a direct result of staying up too late in the boys' dormitory (which he would not admit to if anyone asked). The festive energy of the holiday break felt like a distant memory, and the thought of diving back into Potions this early in the morning was a tough pill to swallow. But here he was; it was a new year and he—nope, he was still very much the same wild child, with the same restless spirit and insatiable curiosity.
"Good morning, Professor Adara," he replied, forcing a smile despite his lingering fatigue that tugged at his eyelids, before settling into a seat at one of the workstations.
His eyes flicked to the unlabeled containers, curiosity piqued. A mix of intrigue and apprehension swirled in his mind. What could be in those? He leaned slightly closer, peering at the labels as the ingredients were always intentionally labeled. His brow furrowed when all there was to make of the 'labels' was what seemed like random squiggly letters. Well, that was... incredibly unhelpful.
What if... he just 'accidentally' mixed the ingredients together... clearly for scientific purposes? The sixth year was tempted to let impulse get the better of him, but decided that it was probably for the best that he wait and not cause an explosion the first day back from holiday.

One might have thought Giselle would have been reluctant to return to school after the holidays, given the odd mood she had been in upon said return. The truth was, said mood was more caused by knowing Brandon had had difficulties over the holiday, and she couldn’t fight anything regarding that whole situation. Truth was, while she’d obviously been able to (probably) see Rome over the holiday, along with the aforementioned visit from her brother’s boyfriend, she was just as happy to be back and see the others she’d developed connections with. Bronwen, Ezra, Celinde…yes, it was just as fun being back as it was being at home.
Therefore, it was hard to be anxious about the morning Potions lesson, especially when she enjoyed the subject as well as the professor. “Good morning, Professor Adara”, she greeted the woman with a smile, making her way toward her usual workstation with the briefest glance toward the few ingredients that were on display. Again, it wasn’t anything to trigger anxiety in her mind. Curiosity, maybe, but not anxiety.

Enthusiasm would certainly get one far, and was most definitely appreciated especially when seen in the younger students. "Hello Miss Greer, good morning." As far as the ingredients, time will tell very soon.

Anxiety-free was okay, and it was admittedly a strange request for a professor to be asking students to bring some anxiety with them. Especially for a subject as meticulous as potions. But there was a method to her madness.
Finger wiggle returned, "Good morning, Mr Aryan." He suspected at least one of his fellow slytherin fourth years would be along shortly.

Curiosity was no sin. Seeing the older seventh year enter, she smiled back (unforced). "Good morning, Mr Beauden." As far as mixing the ingredients, it was theoretically what potion brewing was all about except that it was purposeful and intentional in terms of mixing them. Rather than haphazardly throwing everything into a cauldron.

Truth was she didn't intend for anxiety about the morning potions lesson. However sometimes the smallest bits of anxiety crept into ones life and that would have been enough. It wasn't necessarily required to brew the potion, as you can't very well bottle anxiety. If you could, she'd probably be winner of the order of Merlin, first class.
"Good morning, Ms Giselle." She greeted in return.
Turning her attention to look at all of them ready to learn / brew, Professor Adara decided it was probably best to get started. Several years into teaching, always the most challenging part was getting started. At least the lesson wasn't too early in the morning - sure some students would have preferred an after noon lesson - but 10:30 was quite the respectable time.
"Alright let's go ahead and get started as today's potion requires careful attention to detail so I'd much rather we all can take our time in following the directions precisely. One of the things that I asked you to possibly bring was anxiety. Quite the strange request, but the reason being is that today's potion with these four ingredients is a potion, if brewed correctly, relieves anxiety and agitation. However, if incorrect can put the drinker into a deep sleep."
"Given what you know about it's intended effects and that there are only four ingredients, anyone care to venture a guess as to what potion we're brewing today? If no ideas on the potion, if you noticed the ingredients are unlabeled. Any ideas what you could use to help identify the ingredients?"
ooc: lesson starting now, late arrivals will have consequences but you're welcome to join at any time just pretend as if you've been here the whole time!! First question is what potion might we be brewing today?? OR how can we identify unknown ingredients? Will move on in about 20-24 hours ...

By the time professor Adara was ready to get started, Ary had neatly laid out his books and writing materials and he was ready to brew. The holiday break certainly had done him good in the manner of reamplifying his focus. That’s what happens when one has a break from the hectic school life.
And that explained the anxiety request! However, the effect of not brewing the anxiety-relief potion correctly didn’t have what Ary would call a negative effect. Merlin knew there were times when they could all do with a deep sleep. The teen raised his hand to answer one of the questions. “I’d say The Draught of Peace… but I’m not sure if that particular potion needs so little ingredients.” So in other words, his answer could be wrong.
Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch
His mind was very much focused on the contained ingredients, and the mystery surrounding them took up his thoughts. So much so that he nearly missed the professor's description about the potion they would be brewing. When he finally tuned in, he caught snippets that piqued his interest. From what he could gather, the potion sounded relatively simple, given the limited number of ingredients. Plus, the effects—relief from anxiety and the potential to induce deep sleep if brewed incorrectly—sounded great to him.
Beauden's brow furrowed as he tried to recall the name of the potion. It felt familiar, but his mind, still adjusting after the holiday break, couldn't quite make the connection. The only thing that came to mind (Anxiety-Relieving Potion) sounded too obvious and not right at all.
Instead, he decided to focus on the latter question, which offered an opportunity for open-ended and creative responses. He raised his hand, his voice playful and confident. "When it comes to identifying the ingredients," he proposed, "you can give each a good whiff. Or, if you really wanted to take things up a notch, give each a little taste." A slight grin started tugging on the corners of his lips at the thought of such daring behaviour.
"Of course, there may be potential consequences to relying first on those particular senses," he continued, shrugging his shoulders with a nonchalant air. "But sometimes potion-making calls for a little experimentation."

Nadia would have to admit, when she had seen the notice of today’s lesson with the mention of anxiety, she briefly wondered if something was up with her coach. She never really thought of it as something that one could CHOSE to have at any given moment, that it instead tended to be around when one surely didn’t want it. It was only as the professor asked what kind of potion might help with anxiety that it clicked and what she wouldn’t acknowledge was that it had taken her so long to think of that. As for her thoughts on the matter, the sixth year figured her brother might be right with the Draught of Peace but then was beginning to think that one had too many ingredients to match.
“It could be the Calming Draught,” Nadia offered instead after raising her hand. It seemed to be a simpler potion with its more straightforward name.
Rose sat near Beauden at one of the empty workstations and curiously eyed the four ingredients in front of her, taking careful note to keep her hands in her lap. Why where there just four? She had of course greeted Professor Adara with a respectful wave and 'Good morning' earlier when she had come in. She had also greeted Beauden, Ary and Nadia too in turn before the lesson had begun.
As the lesson got started Rose considered her answer, letting the other's answer first before she raised her hand to say very politely. "I'm with Aryan. I think it's the draught of peace that we are going to brew today professor, because it's the only potion that comes to mind that both relieves anxiety and agitation." Rose could have used some of this over the holidays when her mother had shouted at her for her black and white clothes. She had tried to explain, but her mother hadn't cared to listen. She had no idea why, but lately but everything she touched eventually turned either very white or black. Plus there was that little thing with how she spoke that her brother teased her for immensly.

Had her notes with today's potion been visible? Professor Adara glanced over at her desk where her parchment was with today's potion and was satisfied to find the paper was turned over which meant there was no way of previewing the potion beforehand. "That's correct. Draught of peace only has 4 or 5 ingredients depending on which recipe you follow." Which now that she perused the ingredient bottles on the desk, she realized she'd forgotten the stewed mandrakes.

Leave it to a gryffindor to suggest a taste test. Although he had suggested smelling first which is probably a more appropriate measure. "The smell test can definitely be effective, presuming the ingredients in question have an odor, as there are some out there that are odorless. However that can narrow the choices for what the mysterious item might be. I would never condone tasting unknown ingredients, as the consequences can be ... deadly." To put things mildly. "Using vision and smell in combination are two of the more effective methods."

Calming draught would have been a more simpler potion to brew, but for some reason Professor Adara had high expectations that they could handle the advanced nature of the Draught of Peace. "Could be, but it is the draught of peace."

"Yes precisely. The calming draught, as Miss Nadia mentioned, would have some relieving effects, but as the intended effects are both anxiety and agitation reducing, today's potion will be the Draught of Peace." The professor confirmed again, reiterating upon Rose's expansion.
Walking over to the storage bookshelf of extra ingredients, Professor Adara perused the shelf a moment before selecting the stewed mandrakes. "So as I mentioned, the draught of peace requires only 4 or 5 ingredients depending on which recipe followed. Today's will included 5 ingredients. Stewed mandrakes, powdered moonstone, powdered unicorn horn, powdered porcupine quills, and syrup of Hellebore." She held up each ingredient as she said them aloud. Because she wasn't that cruel to have them decipher which was which. Not to mention she didn't want to waste the time with guessing games when today's potion required careful concentration.
"The draught of peace is a notoriously difficult potion to brew, as it requires careful precision in terms of the steps and ingredients. So I advise you to please pay attention to what you're doing... "
Follow these steps:
1. Fill your cauldrons with water and place under a medium heat
2. Add 3.5g powdered*moonstone*until the potion turns green.
3. Stir 2x until the potion turns blue.
4. Add 3.5g powdered moonstone until the potion turns purple.
5. Allow to simmer until the potion turns pink.
ooc: Steps 1-5 are up. I'll be posting just a few steps at a time each day ... so will post additional tomorrow feel free to keep up or if you need to play catch-up that's okay too. It's also okay to be realistic with your character's potion skills and if they struggle with following instructions, that's okay! All in good fun

Beauden's eyes lit up as Professor Adara listed the ingredients. Draught of Peace—of course! How could he have forgotten that one? He nodded along, mentally noting that his tasting idea had been dismisssed. The ingredients, he had to admit, were easier to identify now that they had been named. Despite the simplicity of the ingredients, he now remembered that this particular brew was tricky—too tricky for a Monday morning, he thought. But he wasn't one to back down from a challenge, so he would be giving his all... even if it resulted in deep sleep.
After a casual wink to Rose and a few others in the lab, he filled his cauldron with water, setting it to medium heat, and glanced at the powdered moonstone. The process was straightforward enough so far. He was by no means a perfectionist, but he was very intentional about adding exactly 3.5g of moonstone. He half-expected something to go wrong as he watched the potion intently, but it turned the intended shade of green to his relief.
"So far, so good," he mumbled with a satisfied grin. He stirred twice, causing the liquid to shift to blue. Beauden exhaled, almost surprised that he hadn't messed it up already.
He added the next batch of moonstone, watching as it gradually transitioned to purple. His mind briefly wandered—what would happen if he added more moonstone? His fingers itched to add a pinch more of moonstone than the instructions called for, but he resisted such impulsive thoughts and waited for the potion to go... pink? Or was it meant to be red?
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Ary shot a grin at Rose because even if their answer was wrong, then at least they had been having the same logical train of thought. But as it turned out, they were right. Excellent. The Slytherin was pleased as he scribbled the five ingredients down in his book {after taking a look at each ingredient Adara held up, that is}.
Despite the level of difficulty mentioned, the teen was quite determined to put his best foot forward with this brewing. To work he went! First, the cauldron and all other equipment were magically cleaned. Next, the cauldron was set up over the burner. “Aguamenti,’’ Ary said quietly, and watched carefully until the cauldron was filled. Once he stopped the flow, the burner was lit with the simple incantation of ‘Incendio’, after which the flame was adjusted to a medium heat. Half of the powdered moonstone was added bit by bit until to Ary’s delight, the contents of the cauldron turned green. Using the stirrer, he stirred clockwise {since the direction hadn’t been specified} twice. Only then did the remaining powdered moonstone was added, slowly like the first half. And look at that! The Potion turned purple! Feeling quite happy with his progress so far, Ary allowed the contents of the cauldron to simmer, all the while watching it closely for the pink shade.

Alissa certainly wouldn't say no to a draught of peace. Coming back from the holiday break had made it even more real that this was her seventh year and that she was going to graduate in just a few months. And soon she would be hearing back from the universities that she had applied to and find out if she got in and if she got into both she would have to choose one and hope that she actually like what she had chosen to study and get a job in for the rest of her life. So, yeah, some peace would be nice.
She began by filling her potion with water and turning the heat to medium. While it started to heat, she went up to the front to collect the ingredients that she would need for the potion. She carefully measured them out and took them back to her station where they would be ready to add into her potion when needed. First was the powdered moonstone. She had gotten seven grams, so she measured out three and a half grams of it and added it into the cauldron, causing the potion to turn green just as it was supposed to. Then she picked up the stir spoon and swiped it through the liquid to stir once, then twice. The color of the liquid changed from the green color to more of a blue. Liss glanced up at the instructions to make sure that was what was supposed to happen and was pleased to find that it was. She took the rest of the powdered moonstone and added it to the cauldron, then left it to simmer.
Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna
So it was the Draught of Peace that they would be brewing today. Got it. She should of stuck with her first train of thought, not thst it was a big deal as it wasn’t a test. Nadia watched as Professor Adara picked up each ingredient they would be working with, naming each in turn. Thank goodness they weren’t in Herbology having to deal with screaming mandrakes directly this time around. As for the difficulty of the brewing, the sixth year would be trying her best to to show that O on her Owls hadn’t been a fluke. She’d be paying attention all right, as taught by her dad.
After copying what was shared on the board, Nadia went to work. “Aquamenti,” she cast, filling her cauldron with water, setting the flame on medium heat as directed. The vessel in question already well cleaned right before like she kept it. “Scourgify” she cast on her measuring tools to make sure they in turn were just as clean before measuring out just the right amount of powdered moonstone to be added. One…two…three and a half grams exactly, or as close as she could get which apparently seemed good enough as the liquid within her cauldron turned green as expected.

As it was a difficult potion, Professor Adara was going to do her best to keep the students on track with their potion brewing. Although she was never one to micromanage, she still wanted to scrutinize their efforts enough to keep them somewhat on the right page. Although looking up at the instructions she realized the error she'd already made, which was in third step not telling which way to stir, although data was non-conclusive as to if it made a difference in the early stages and was more crucial step right before the hellebore was added. Noting how intentional Beauden was being, her gaze moved onto Aryan next, the colour changes making it easy to see that things were moving along as they should. The pink shade definitely reminded of her of Chloe, thinking how it was always a favorite colour of her eldest child. Alyssa too was meticulous, and Nadia got extra nods of approval having double checked the cleanliness of her measuring tools before beginning. While she hadn't mentioned it, those were always good practices to follow.
"So usually I specify this, but for the third step of stirring twice, this particular potion is particular towards the end of which way to stir, but whichever way you happened to stir for this step should be fine as long as both stirs were in the same direction. If you have a nice bubblegum pink shade, then you should be good to go. Otherwise I'd recommend starting over before you get too far ahead." She was surprised no one had asked, but figured she ought to clarify anyway just for confusion.
Onto some more steps...
6. Shake*stewed mandrake*vigorously until they are ready and then add one and the potion should turn red
7. Stir CW until the potion turns orange.
8. Add another stewed mandrake until the potion turns yellow
9. Stir CCW until the potion turns green.
10. Add another stewed mandrake until the potion turns turquoise
11. Allow to simmer till the potion turns purple.
12. Add 7g powdered*unicorn horn*until the potion turns pink.
13. Stir CW until the potion turns red.
14. Allow to simmer until the potion turns orange.
ooc: thanks for bearing me with me. I'll post the rest of the steps tomorrow. Again, feel free to catchup and go at your own pace, dividing as you need... CW = clockwise; CCW = Counterclockwise. Thanks to Kat for reminding me to add this in

The reason Ary hadn’t asked about the direction in which the potion needed to be stirred was because it had happened before where there hadn’t been specific directions {the most recent being just last term}. So, he was sort of weary of asking again and he had simply winged it with choosing a direction. Luckily, he had made a sensible call.
But he did have a question now. And he wasn’t going to lie; there was a twinge of annoyance that crucial information was not being told to them. “Professor?” The Slytherin put a hand in the air. “How do we know when the Mandrakes are ready? Is there a certain number of minutes we need to shake them so that they’ll be that way?” He kept his tone level and polite despite his feelings.

But every potion was different and sometimes the professor was just a ditz andforgot to specify. Fortunately he lucked out this time.
Glancing over at the fourth year slytherin, she looked back at the instructions and then at the stewed mandrakes. "Not necessarily a certain number of minutes, because vigorous means certain things for different people." Some people were definitely more ... heavy-handed. "But going more on appearance here. So it could be anywhere from one minute to ten minutes.... the appearance should be bruised, mushy ... think if you were take an apple and shake it until it bruised or cracked. That's the sort of appearance going for." She did have an example somewhere. Fetching a jar from the bookshelf, she held it up. "Good question, thank you"
ooc: not a very good picture lol, but think of when if you put an apple or some other hard fruit in a jar and shake it up really fast until it cracks. Going for the mushy look here. Anyway, hope that helps <3

Rose returned Beauden's wink with one of her own before putting her focus up front. Professor Adara was showing, and naming each ingredient they were using in their draught of peace brews. She took careful note and also scribbled down the brewing steps to a difficult and possibly tricky brew.
"Scourigify!" Rose cast with her wand over her cauldron to make sure it was clean before she murmured. "Aguamenti!" to fill her cauldron up with water and then put it on meadium heat. Next step was adding powdered moonstone. She used her measuring instruments to get the right amount of powdered moonstone. Adding in the 3,5gs of moonstone to the water she waited and watched until it like it was supposed to turned green. Next she used her potion spoon to stir the liquid once and then twice, watching as it turned blue.
All right so far so good! Stealing a glance over at the next step of instructions Rose measured up another 3,5g of powdered moonstone which she added into the water, watching her liquid turn the expected purple colour. Allowing the potion to simmer for a few minutes she looked on intently as the liquid turned a nice pink shade.
Next up Rose grabbed a jar of stewed mandrake, and began to shake it vigourously with both her hands, hard and fast. She heard Ary's question which was on her lips too. They could stop shaking the mandrake when it was mushy like an apple? She wasn't sure she knew what that meant but she figured she'd know when she saw it right? Shaking until her arm's were tired Rose stopped to eye the stewed mandrake. It could qualify as mushy now, yes? At least she thought so, and dropped it into her cauldron. In a matter of moments the liquid turned red and Rose wanted to shout out in happines, but thought better of it.
Professor Adara might not like violent outbursts even if they were happy outburst. Next she stirred clockwise with her spoon until the potion turned orange. Looking at the next instruction Rose sighed. Grabbing the stewed mandrake jar she began to shake it vigourously again.

When Professor Adara gave her instructions (which came at the most opportune moment because he had mentally settled on red instead of the intended pink), he quickly glanced down at his potion, eyes scanning the surface for the right shade. So far, so good. His potion swirled in soft hues of pink, and he exhaled with relief. Beauden felt a bit of pride at how smoothly things were going so far.
Now came the fun part. Beauden grabbed the stewed mandrake, shaking it vigorously—a little too vigorously, perhaps. His strength, honed from Beater training, made the mandrake look as though it had been through a brawl by the time he was done. A satisfying plop followed as the mandrake was added to the cauldron, its contents swirling with life as the potion shifted from bubblegum pink to vibrant red.
"Alright, clockwise," he muttered to himself, gripping his stirring spoon with determined precision. As he stirred, the red potion gradually faded into a bright orange, reminding him of a blazing sunset. He glanced over at the instructions again, blue eyes narrowing slightly as he scanned for what came next. Another mandrake was added to the mix, its remains barely resembling the stewed pieces they once were, but it did its job well enough. The potion began its slow, calculated transition to yellow.
Once the liquid reached the expected shade, Beauden began stirring counterclockwise. Green was the next target colour, but as his spoon moved through the thickening brew, a spark of curiosity danced in his thoughts. Would slower or faster movements impact the outcome? Beauden's impulsive nature got the better of him, and he decided to put his theory to the test.
He slowed his stirring to an almost agonizing pace, watching as the potion's surface barely moved under the spoon. The sluggish rhythm felt excruciatingly boring to him, and after a few moments, impatience bubbled up inside. With a sudden flick of his wrist, Beauden sped up his stirring, the liquid swirling rapidly in response. He watched intently, half-expecting something dramatic to happen.

Nadia had been just about to stir, curious as to which way to go when the professor spoke up to clarify, that this particular time it only mattered that she went the same way both stirs. So dipping her stirring rod into the potion, the Gryffindor did just that. One…two….stirs clockwise within the cauldron as she decided, her work apparently satisfied with her choice as the brewing liquid went blue. In went more of the powdered moonstone and another color change to purple. Then she keft it as directed, letting it simmer as she watched almost patiently for the potion to turn pink this time, the liquid seemingly taking its time. But finally she could move on.
SPOILER!!: notes
3. Stir 2x until the potion turns blue.
4. Add 3.5g powdered moonstone until the potion turns purple.
5. Allow to simmer until the potion turns pink.
With new steps added to the board, Nadia did her best to keep up. She took up her stewed mandrake and shook it, inwardly grateful for her brother’s question. How DOES one know their mandrake is ready? The sixth year vigorously shook hers, checking every once and awhile until it seemed to her to match Professor Adara’s description. She then added one to her cauldron, her brewing potion turning a blood red that gave a spooky effect. With a few stirs clockwise it lighted to a more orange color. Another mandrake added and it was more like lemonade until she stirred again this time several times counterclockwise, and it was green as a fresh blade of grass. In went another mandrake as instructed and the potion was now a very pretty turquoise that Nadia thought was the best color so far as she left it to simmer once more.
SPOILER!!: new notes

Exactly. ‘Vigorous’, as with all words, can be interpreted differently which was why Ary had asked for specifics in this case. So, the description provided by Adara was one he could work with; not to mention the visual represented helped a lot. “Thank you too, Professor.” Mentally huffing, he returned to the brewing.
Now that the mix was pink {and quite a lovely shade of it, he should mention}, the mandrakes were shaken and shaken until they resembled what Adara had mentioned and had shown. One of the bruised mandrakes was added to the mix and… there was that red shade! Ary grabbed the stirrer and began stirring clockwise. He lost track counting how many stirs it took but eventually, the contents changed into Dad Adi’s favourite colour - orange. The second mandrake was added and sometime shortly, it all turned yellow. Ary was super pleased with himself and his work so far. All he needed to do was to continue to focus properly and the potion would be brewed to perfection.
Back to stirring he went, this time counterclockwise. It only took about three minutes for the potion to turn green. Now, the final mandrake was placed into the cauldron which saw to the potion going to the required turquoise colour. Ary let the simmering take place, taking the free time on his hands to clean his workstation and the equipment he would have used. By the time he was done, a shade of purple from the cauldron was looking back at him. Next, 7g of powdered unicorns were placed into the cauldron until the mix was pink again. Then it was back to stirring, which took another three minutes of clockwise stirs to take the potion back to a red colour.
Finally, for now, everything in the cauldron was left to simmer. Slowly but surely, it began to revert to orange.

Rose was off to a late start, but that didn't mean she didn't have time to finish. While yes this was ranked as a difficult potion, it was mostly because there was a lot of tedious steps involved. Although the rapid color changes made it easy to quickly visualize whether you were on the right page or not. She did admit though that perhaps the mushy apple wasn't the best analogy but it seemed to be working judging from the color changing to red. There was Beauden making his way through the steps as well - she did admit that he made it look wildly effortless other than all the various steps, but the mandrake shaking he made look effortless. Tedious - that's why the potion difficult.
She did think that Nadia too was doing a great job keeping up, even she noted the struggle in her face, her potion was looking great so far. She smiled encouragingly for her to keep pressing onward. Include Aryan in the encouragement nods, because she did note his facial expressions even if he didn't voice anything.
"We're on the home stretch. You're all doing great!!" Professor Adara voiced to all, as the final set of instructions appeared.
15.Add powdered*porcupine quills*until the potion turns white. (Add exactly 7 drops)
16. Lower the flames and simmer for seven minutes
17. Stir 7 times CCW
18. Add*syrup of hellebore*until the potion turns turquoise.
"Now ... if your potion looks as it should, you may try a sample and see if you feel any calmer. Before you do so, please place some in a vial with your name and house on it. The worse that could happen is you'll fall into a deep sleep, but fortunately I have the antidote to revive you before you next lessons." She paused. "Also please only sample your own potions."
ooc: final steps, including bottling a sample and trying a sample if you dare. You'll have roughly 48 hours to catch up / finish / ask any lingering questions ... Thanks again for your participation

Facial expressions were more difficult for him to hide but Ary did appreciate Adara’s encouragement. At the words of the potion almost being completed, he couldn’t help but feel relieved. That meant that any chance that he would screw up was low.
Using a dropper, the Slytherin dispatched seven drops into the cauldron and immediately after the final one, the white colour appeared. To commence the simmering, the burner was adjusted so that the flame became low. While the seven minutes were waited out, Ary once again cleaned his workstation. It was always easier to focus in a clean environment.
Once the time was up, seven counterclockwise stirs were done before the syrup of hellebore was added. With the turquoise colour achieved, Ary knew that he had been successful overall. It was quite a triumphant feeling. Not feeling the need to try the potion now since his success had erased his earlier bad mood, he vialed a sample for Adara, labelled with his name and House. “Professor, can I take a vial for myself to use another time?” Because Gobstones sometimes stressed him out and the potion would be nice to use after a particularly trying match.

Beauden's potion bubbled and frothed with each rapid stir, a whirlpool forming in the cauldron. The potion smoothly transitioned to the intended green, with a slight shimmer on the surface. He let out a quiet laugh, half-impressed that his experimental stirring hadn't backfired. The swirling green seemed stable, until what must have been one or two stirs too many caused the bright hue to darken ominously. Well, it was still green, he reasoned.
Professor Adara's voice cut through the classroom, delivering the final steps in the brewing process. Realising he had fallen behind, he hastily grabbed another stewed mandrake, tossing it into the cauldron without a second thought. The swampy green liquid swirled dramatically as the mandrake dissolved, turning the potion an eye-catching turquoise, only to deepen into a teal. His head tilted slightly as he pondered the difference between turquoise and teal—were they really that different? Maybe not enough to matter.
The thought of asking Professor Adara briefly crossed his mind, but the Gryffindor decided that everything was perfectly fine. After all, there wasn't enough time to start over if it wasn't. Letting the potion simmer, he observed as the colour shifted from teal to a rich, almost regal purple, or maybe it was more of an indigo...
Shrugging off the doubt, he added precisely seven grams of powdered unicorn horn, watching with mild interest as the potion glowed a rose-gold colour rather than the expected hot pink. His brow burrowed, tossing in another pinch of powder, hoping to brighten the hue, but the change was minimal. After some clockwise stirring, the brew shifted once more, this time to a deep crimson, though whether it was the right shade was anyone's guess.
So far, no explosions. That was a victory in his book. Beauden let out a relieved breath as the potion simmered, slowly reaching its next stage, a rusty burnt orange. Now came the delicate task of adding porcupine quills. He dropped them in one by one, mesmerised by the swirl of colours that followed each addition. But somewhere between the dazzling hues, he lost count. Was he at five drops? Six? Or had he already added seven? The blond couldn't say for sure, but the potion had now was an off-white colour. He lowered the flame beneath the cauldron, hoping for the best as he watched the liquid simmer.
The minutes ticked by slowly, and rather than cleaning his workstation like his classmates, Beauden couldn't bring himself to do anything but pace nervously. His eyes flicked back and forth between his cauldron and those nearby. Had it been seven minutes yet? Could he start stirring? Seeing others begin to stir, his mounting impatience got the better of him, and he began to do the same, moving the spoon in slow, counterclockwise circles. One, two, three—his mental count blurred as the spoon swept through the thickening liquid. By the time he reached seven rotations, the potion seemed to have reached its final form.
A steady stream of syrup of hellebore dripped into the potion, and the liquid shifted to a rich teal. Beauden squinted at Professor Adara's instructions to check if that was the desired colour. Teal, turquoise—close enough, right? He shrugged, deciding it was too late to fret over minor colour discrepancies that surely were subjective anyway.
With an air of confidence, he ladled a portion of the teal potion into a vial, the liquid swirling inside the glass. Without hesitation, he raised the vial to his lips and swallowed, feeling the potion slide down his throat. The vial clinked against the workstation as he set it down.
"Professor, how long does it take for the potion to take effe—" Beauden's words were abruptly cut off as his legs gave way beneath him. One moment he was standing tall, and the next he crumpled to the floor like a rag doll, limbs sprawled out in every direction. A loud snore erupted from his throat.
