Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated American actor John Lithgow personally confirmed that he agreed to take on the role of Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter TV series for HBO/MAX.
In an interview with Screenrant, Lithgow said, "Well it came as a total surprise to me... it was not an easy decision because it's going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I'm afraid. But I'm very excited... That's why it's been such a hard decision. I'll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I've said yes."
Lithgow's filmography and theatre history is extensive; most recently he was featured in the Oscar-nominated film
Conclave alongside Ralph Fiennes, Voldemort in the film series.
He is the first confirmed for the series, which will begin production at Leavesden Studios this year for the adaptation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. More details to come.
