→ ... in the form of traditional art __→ Pen and ink __→ Mechanical pencil __→ Coloured pencils __→ Markers __→ cleaned up in Photoshop
This is my third Seektober and I will be doing the Aparecium challenge, choosing prompts based on which I'm most inspired by at the time. I will probably be relating several of them back to my RPG characters again, because my brain invariably returns to them. Regardless I will no doubt continue the tradition of doing many mental gymnastics (see thread title) in prompt interpretation.
My time is more limited this time around so I'm aiming to use this opportunity to get into the habit of good time management and keep it to an hour~ per prompt (except maybe a couple of bigger pieces).

day one: _____devil's snare __________pomona sprout #20
SPOILER!!: day 1 - devil's snare
A6 paper, mechanical pencil (0.3), and faber castell colour ecopencils
not too many mental gymnastics this time, easing in with something simple
these pencils are not my favourite but now seems like a good opportunity to
play around with them here and there. i don't really consider this ~finished~
but trying to stay in the spirit of not working on things for tooooo long
(devil's snare was jake upstead's boggart for a very long time)

Oooh! I really like the color and value you used on the vines, especially using yellow to create a lighter value for the darker greens. That color layering has a nice richness to it and gives a good sense of depth. I also really enjoy the perspective.

Okay but...the use of those ecopencils and the vibrancy and the shading and and and....I would never know you were not a fan of them. If this is testing the waters, I simply cannot WAIT to see where you go from here The tendrils and vines are so nice and effortlessly (at least LOOK so) woven together and like they may just climb off the page. Good luck on your hour time limit!

thank you! I started using coloured pencils properly a few months ago and finally figured out how to play with layering and colours and everything. still working on it but it's really fun.

after using my prismacolour pencils it was a little painful to go back to these ones (which might be partly because they are older by several years and also a lot cheaper, but i don't want to waste them by leaving them lying around untouched either). either way they're super fun to use, likely better on the right paper. (also fun fact that first one already broke the one hour rule by a lot)
thank uuuu
day two: _____earmuffs __________pomona sprout #25
SPOILER!!: day 2 - earmuffs
A6 paper, mechanical pencil (0.3)
"longbottom's been neglecting his earmuffs"
this really was very quick, about half an hour, because I'm already playing
catch-up with uni stuff and super rushed, so it's very rough and riddled
with mistakes but I'd love to redraw it properly one day.
(actually after taking this i tried to fix the major mistakes in the original and
ended up really disliking it so I'm glad I still have this one lol)

I'm furious at you for having ANY criticism of this when the expression on his face is perfection and the hair texture and the earmuffs and... listen. That boy is about to fall over. I can see it, and you can see it.

Hello eggnemy, I’m so impressed by the devil’s snare. I think I’m most impressed by the twists and coils, how you managed to bring the piece of artwork to life. I can’t get over the way you shade and color. It’s so vibrant and full of movement. You continue to astound me every seektober, I don’t know why I continue to be surprised when I already know something incredible will be waiting for me under each spoiler box.
omfg look at this absolute sweetheart that is neville longbottom!!! I’m unwell. How you managed this in only half an hour is mind boggling. He’s so EXPRESSIVE. My favorite bit is definitely the slanty mouth. He is perfect.

When I first saw the image before reading the text, I was sure this was Ezra. Autumn says this is a classic Ezra expression and you cannot convince her otherwise. This is so nicely rendered, even roughly sketched out you've managed to capture so much expression and form. I especially like the hair and earmuffs. And idk what you're talking about riddled with mistakes because I don't see a single one

I, like MJ, thought this may be Ezra big fan of how soft your lines are for the confused dancing stars above his head - it is such a subtle touch but there is so much movement to it. I just think this whole piece is so darling and I can see it as one of those little chapter illustrations in a HP book

I do have a habit of making you furious with these criticisms. I should do this professionally. but yeah, it's true, he's about to go

get outta town o mortal foe. but not really because you're nice so you can stay. I'm glad you liked the colouring on the first one bc I'm not very well practiced in getting shape and shading with coloured pencils and half the time I feel like I'm winging it. *meme voice* is this imposter syndrome
so fUN FACT I had a different mouth shape in mind when i drew this but it was in my head and not in a reference so naturally it did not translate well when I tried to communicate it to my hand, but then I really liked this instead so I kept it, heheh

now you say it I can see it too although he insists that he would make sure his earmuffs were adequately secured (and probably quadruple checks) it is absolutely him. maybe when he sees a spider and down he goes. I'm glad you like this! I never think I'll get the information I want on the page without working for aaaages and ages so this was a pleasant surprise

Also, um... half an hour?? Darn, you're talented! And you have no right to make any negative remarks about this piece because is's perfect. OKAY?
hehehe, he's adorable. but then I do have a soft spot for neville anyway so I couldn't have drawn him as anything but.
okay!!! (actually thinking about it there are definite benefits to working in a short space of time, because I have less opportunity to overwork something and spoil it when it's halfway decent in its basic form)

u know my thoughts were on that scene the eNTIRE TIME as i drew it heheheh. it's okay though, he was avenged after all. in a roundabout way. sort of. oops.
anyway THANK YOU for the kind words, I will bring you more !!! and ideally more thinking outside the box for these prompts too or risk not living up to this thread title

hehe, I'm glad you like! I have a thing about details cause I just love them but it's easy to get carried away with them and overdo it and I'm trying hard not to (time limit helps). thank you again!
day three: _____calm __________albus dumbledore #17
SPOILER!!: day 3 - calm
A6 paper, mechanical pencil (0.3), uni pin fine liners (0.1, 0.3)
I actually drew this a whole week ago but didn't post it (???) but I had peace
and quiet in the house for once so I drew the calm (aka what was right in front
of me) (aka my living room) (but very rough and ready) (and without the view
through the windows because I got lazy) (I usually sit on the sofa in the picture
because of the natural light but because it's an empty house I got to nab the
good seat) (the more you didn't-want-to-know) (perspective is HARD)
I am very behind and so playing catch-up and might end up posting a few
prompts at a time, but probably no more than three per day (unless it gets a
bit dire in the late game stage because time is currently still limited)

A6 paper, mechanical pencil (0.3)
if the proportions look off that is because they absolutely are. I started drawing
this in one of my classes while I was waiting for it to start and was using a ref
on my phone. but then i LoSt tHe ReFeReNCe iMAgE and could not be bothered
to try all that hard to find it, so I improvised the rest
(actually in all honesty I started drawing this in late september when I, for
some inexplicable reason, thought I could also do inktober at the same time, as
long as I got ahead of the inktober prompts a bit (gargoyle was the first on the
list). I quickly realised that would not be happening and gave up, but had the
bare bones of this ready to go and now here we are)

hagrid, naturally. (not robbie's hagrid bc that would need more time, but. yes.)
I wish I had more time to work on this bc I was pleasantly surprised the face
came out okay, but I did not. the proportions are a little off but it's fine. also
when I say these are on A6 paper the nevile one and this one only take up
half the page each, so it's even smaller and with these pencils especially I
really need more space to play with. he kind of looks like he's wearing a wig
and a fake beard but that's okay. just wanted to do a tribute, u know.

Funny.. I too was under the delusion that I could complete both Inktober and Seektober. I realized pretty quickly that that wasn't going to happen, especially as I can't quite keep up with one at the moment lmao
I really love the range of values you got in Calm and especially all the details in your living room. I enjoy drawings that capture so much of the environment and you captured everything so nicely. Like look at the gathering and billowing of the drapes, love that!
There has always been something I just love about gargoyles. They're supposed to be these scary demon things that protect buildings (or something, I don't actually know if that is their purpose), but they always strike me as being lonely and sad inside, and therefore precious little beans. Your gargoyle is super cute too. I love his face and I just want to give him a hug. And oh Hagrid ;_; what a lovely tribute. I also really like your layering of colored pencils in his hair.

I get to leave you a long response this time! It's only fair!
Um first, the calm scene. Is that an elephant? Just dancing on the furniture? I think this one turned out really well, and I agree that there's all sorts of texture and depth with your nice inky work going on here. Funny that the good chair isn't the good chair for drawing because of the light. Or am I misunderstanding?
Your gargoyle is a cutiepants, but it definitely looks offended by something. There's some real judgement going on in those eyes, for sure. I get what you're saying about losing the reference, but I can't tell what you started and ended with, so you're obviously doing an excellent job.
And the Hagrid! Makes me feel feelings, so you know I"m mad about that! I like the color and texture of his facial hair, and I don't think it looks like a fake beard at all. I'm not sure what a drawn fake beard would even look like, so maybe don't trust me, ok?
astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf
Um. UM. That Hagrid piece what a beautiful tribute and I love how warm his eyes are. So soft and lovely and wow my heart.
I don't know if you know of it, but your gargoyle looks like it belongs in the universe of Disney's old school animated show Gargoyles - and I mean that as a compliment because I was absolutely OBSESSED with that show. I think it's great and there is something special about it being improvised too. 15/10 big fan.
I love the story behind your calm piece and it came out so nice. I am still terrified of THE PEN and this looks so nice with the different levels of inking
