The Office of Alexandra Carlton and Wesley Kutcher OOC: The door to the office is currently closed, so please have your character knock first and wait to be let in. Please don't have your character come into the office and proceed to the Minister's office without being properly let in. Thank you! Alexandra Athena Carlton______Wesley Blaine Kutcher Just outside the office of the Minister for Magic is the large office shared by her Senior Undersecretary, Alexandra Carlton, and her Junior Undersecretary, Wesley Kutcher. You must check in with either the Senior or Junior Undersecretary before proceeding to visit with the Minister. For those of you who've been here before, you should be quite familiar with the area. However, there is one very noticeable difference. The gold-lettered plaque which once indicated the office of Mrs. Bella Montez-Greingoth (now-former Senior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic) has been removed. In its place, a new plaque now reads: Senior Undersecretary Wesley Kutcher Junior Undersecretary Once inside the office, you'll find that it's typical of what a person would expect any office to look like. The Senior Undersecretary sits at a large, wooden desk centered along the back wall. A wizarding portrait of the Carlton family of five decorates the wall just behind the desk. If you watch the portrait long enough, a Carlton or two just might grow bored of their pose and walk away. Don't worry, though, they'll be back later, of course! Allie is a pureblood witch who was born and raised in Sevenoaks, Kent, England. Despite her birthplace and the fact that she attended Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, much of her life, so far, has revolved around living in the United States of America, where she attended a university and worked to further her Ministry of Magic-oriented career. Little odds and ends throughout the office, such as a miniature model of the Statue of Liberty and a framed portrait of Times Square, reflect Allie's time away from her home country of Great Britain. A bookcase lining the entire left wall of the office houses Allie's career-oriented literature, diplomas from Hogwarts and university, and a collection of framed pictures of family and friends. Don't let the professional appearance of the office fool you into thinking Allie is all about work and no play, though. In between pieces of paperwork and scheduled meetings, the Senior Undersecretary enjoys sitting back, relaxing, and thumbing through the latest edition of Witch Weekly. It's typical of Allie to have a couple of issues squeezed in amongst the literature, diplomas, and pictures situated on the bookcase. Once you’re invited in, please help yourself to a seat. Allie is quite happy to see you! |
With a tray of food in one hand, Chad approached that door of the Undersecretary. It had been a while since him and Bella had talked to each other, let alone seen. Nothing like killing two birds with one stone. With a gentle smile, he raised his hand and knocked on the door lightly. |
Quote:
Standing from her chair, she tossed her quill onto her desk and made her way to the door. Opening it, she saw a man standing and waiting with a tray full of food. Clearly here for the Minister, yup. Surely Lexi wouldn't get that lucky to have food delivered on day one. "Hey there," she greeted, opening the door a bit wider. |
Chad put on a bright smile as the door started to open. Andddddddd....that wasn't Bella. Chad did a double take. He turned around and looked down the hallway. This WAS the place...wasn't it? "Uh...I am sorry. I appear to be confused. I am looking for the Undersecretary's office?" |
Quote:
When he turned back around and apologized for apparently being confused, Lexi more or less became confused herself. Her eyebrows wrinkled a bit but then she smiled again. "Oh, well, you've to the right place then. I'm Alexandra Carlton, Senior Undersecretary," she said. She'd extend her hand, but, well...his were a little full with the tray of food. |
Chad blinked. What alternate universe was this!? When had Bella left? "Oh," he blushed gently. "Uh...well, it is a pleasure to meet you, Mademoiselle Carlton. I am Chad Stryker, the department head from the fourth floor. Uhm, if you don't mind...how long have you been here so far?" |
Quote:
Wow. Lexi had never been referred to as Mademoiselle before. The title sounded----distinguished. However, Lexi didn't find it necessary to continue such a formality. She was a friendly person and had no problems being referred to as...well, just plain old Lexi. "Oh, please, call me Alexandra---or Lexi. Lexi is fine, too," she said, motioning for him to walk on in and take a seat. She left the doorway and went to take a seat behind her desk before saying anything else. "It's nice to meet you, too, and I've been here...ohhh, one day." She followed that statement with a light laugh. "This is my first day on the job, Mr. Stryker." |
Chad blushed again as she corrected him on what to call her and then he moved into the office. "Well...it is a pleasure to meet you, Alexandra," he replied, taking a seat down in a chair in front of her desk. "And I hope it has been a memorable first day Mademoi-....Alexandra," he corrected. |
Quote:
"Oh, it's been excellent. Thank you," she said. "I haven't had an opportunity to meet with a lot of the employees, but the ones I have met have been really welcoming." Where had Chad said he worked? Level...four, yes. Magical Creatures, she knew, as this Ministry of Magic was set up just like the one in America had been. "So how are things in Magical Creatures?" |
Chad put the tray of food down in his lap. "Things are going well...definitely well," he nodded. "Animals here...and animals there. A ghost every now and again." He shrugged. "I'm glad people are receiving you well." |
Quote:
She lightly laughed at the animals and ghosts comment. "Sounds like a typical day in a magical creatures office," she joked. "So, erm, dining in today?" She nodded towards his tray. She just couldn't help but ask about the food. After all, he'd come to her office (or Reagan's) with it. |
Chad looked down at the tray in his lap as she referred to it. He blushed again. "Oh...it is for Rea-...Mademoiselle Taylor," he corrected, smiling gently. "I brought her favourites." He was beaming now. |
Quote:
She was a little reluctant, though, to tell Chad that Reagan had left for the day and would be back...well, Merlin knew when she'd be back. He looked so happy to have brought her food. "Oh, well...oh, I'm sorry Cha---Mr. Stryker. Miss Taylor left for the day. I haven't seen her since early this morning," she said. Well, she couldn't keep the Minister's absence a secret forever, could she? At some point and time, Chad would have asked to see her. |
Oh. Well, wasn't he embarrassed? He should have owled first, asking if she was in. Would have saved him the trouble. "Oh, well then," he smiled. "Yeah..you know, I think I might of heard her mention something about having business today. My fault." He shrugged, still smiling. "....Are you hungry?" |
Quote:
"No, no. No one is at fault here. I see where you had Miss Taylor's best interests at heart," she said. She wasn't necessarily hungry, but she wasn't about to tell Chad no to his offer. "Oh, sure---let's eat! What do you have there?" |
He put the tray down on her desk and reached for a couple grapes himself. "Oh, just some fruit, ham sandwiches, crackers...cheese...croissants," he listed. He looked back ]up at Alexandra. "Go on help yourself," he waved. |
Quote:
"Mmm, tastes good," she said, feeling a little guilty for munching on the food he'd so kindly prepared for Reagan. She wanted to ask him if he was dating the Minister or something like that, but she didn't dare. Maybe later...when she'd known him longer. "I haven't had an opportunity to meet too many of the department heads. Do you get together often?" In the American Ministry of Magic, the department heads had sometimes met at little outings or at least in the breakroom. |
Chad, himself, reached for a croissant and quickly took a bit out of it. It was the kind of croissant with the chocolate in the middle. He had almost fainted when he'd heard the breakroom had them. And now? Well, now, he was in love all over again. With the croissant. Not with someone. Geez. "Mmm, every once in a while," he answered after he'd swallowed. "I still don't think I have met all the Department Heads...but you'll meet them in time. Like, I met one Head because one of my employees threatened him." Soft smile. Croissant. Chomp. |
Quote:
"I think it'd be fun for the Department Heads to get together every once in a while. In the American Ministry of Magic, the Department Heads typically met at restaurants or other events of that sort," she explained. She'd hoped there would be opportunities like that here at the British Ministry of Magic. |
Chad finished off the rest of his beloved croissant. "It was not much really. There was that whole fiasco with werewolves and creatures not being allowed to go to the Quidditch World Cup because the date of the match was so close to a full moon. So, one of my employees felt it necessary to march down to the Games department and yell at the Department Head." He shrugged and reached for some cheese now. "No big deal." It was his turn to blink as she explained that Department Heads in the United States actually...hung out? "Oh, you meant THAT kind of get together. Then I revise my previous statement. The extent of our 'get together' has been being in the conference room discussing business and stuff." He reached for a cracker. "But, I like this foreign concept of getting together. Tell me more?" |
Quote:
"Well, it seemed everyone knew everyone and had relationships away from work, too. I just...sort of...thought it'd be the same here," she admitted. She'd actually been looking forward to the first big Ministry get-together. For a moment, a hint of sadness---homesickness, maybe---flickered across her face. It was gone a moment later, though. "Well, I'm sure I'll be happy just the same." On that note, she smiled, just to ensure herself that she'd made the right decision in relocating across the pond and coming to work here at the British Ministry of Magic. |
Chad was reaching for another croissant (seriously, they were heaven!) when he looked up and could have sworn he saw a glimmer of sadness in her eyes. Ohh, that tugged at his heart. "Well, I don't speak for everyone. I guess I am not just much of a flutter bug. Or...whatever you call them. I...I am seeing the Minister, though," he smiled, wondering if that would make her feel better. That didn't sound like it would make her feel any better. At least not when he replayed it in his head. "We can 'get together'," he smiled, abandoning his croissant for a second. "I have always needed more sunlight." He chuckled gently and nodded. |
Quote:
She nodded when he suggested getting together. There was a little cafe just around the corner from the Ministry, and it had a little outdoors section that was perfect for having lunch on a sunny afternoon. "Sure, I'd like that," she said. The thought of inviting the Minister to this little outing did cross her mind. She didn't want to tempt getting fired for accompanying the Minister's boyfriend on an outing, that was for sure. |
Chad smiled, blushing a little. "About a year and a half?" Yup, it was a long time! Especially for him. It was just the part...where she worked so much. "Excellent," he beamed now. "I hear there is this cute little cafe somewhere around her. I have heard nothing but good reviews about it." This was exciting! |
Quote:
For a moment, she turned to distract herself with the opened page to some random magazine tossed across her desktop. "QUIZ---Discover the New You!" the title of the page read. Great---Witch Weekly. Why couldn't it have at least been some professional magazine? She tossed it to the side then glanced back up at Chad. "Cafe? A cafe sounds nice, although, I'm completely new to the area, so we're better off with you figuring out its location," she said, with a laugh. |
