Malachi looked up when he heard Antigone raise her voice. She seemed to be having some sort of stand off with some man. He felt his hackles rise and was on the verge of hexing the man in the back of the head when the man was soundly dismissed and left. As his own Trelawney illusion had vanished he also stood up, looking around to see if Frida was ready. Not able to see her, he thought that she must have gone ahead. He pocketed his quill and stood up, gave Antigone a warm, supportive smile and left the room.
The image of Proffesor Snape appeared in front of the woman and crossed his arms menacingly across his chest. "Well, let us get on with this then you imbecile," he said to the woman with a deep scowl.
Laura looked at the illusion of Professor Snape coming in front of her. She was just about to speak to him in a respectful manner when she heard him say the last word and she thought the otherwise well, it is because of this very reason Professor Snape that i would say that you are no longer to stay and continue teaching here at Hogwarts she said her tone calm but firm not trying to lose her head over him.
Daichi listened intently as the Department Head walked around, handing out pamphlets to everyone... As others were milling around throughout the room, he began to flip through the literature. He wasn't totally sure that he was qualified to make such a decision as to fire someone, especially a teacher that was challenged with the task of teaching the next group of students... but he figured he could at least give it a try. He pulled a pen out, and began to write...
Charms: Personality and atmosphere is most important in a teacher and their classroom. If Flitwick didn't create a fun learning environment, how could he be expected to get his information across to the students effectively? He should work a bit more on his classroom structure and discipline, but all in all, this does not warrant his termination.
Divination: If a teacher can not comfortably teach their students the expected materials, how can the students learn? Trelawney definitely needs to work more on her own classwork, before she can teach others. However, should a lack of knowledge/profesionalism alone cost her the position?
Care of Magical Creatures: Magical Creatures are living, breathing entities. As such, they mustn't be expected to fall within "classroom parameters". Hagrid has shown that he is more than capable enough to handle situations well, as well as showing the ability to think on his feet. Injuries may be an unfortunate side effect, but we can't hold the teacher responsible for such situations.
Herbology: Umbridge's notes on Sprout seem to be extremely one sided. She has a teaching method and one that seems to work well for her course. Maybe some pointers can be given from other staff members, but this hardly means she should be terminated.
Potions: Snape may have a... rough personality for a teacher... but the fact of the matter is that he gets the materials across to the students, and he does so effectively. Some of his potions may be of a higher level, but it may simply be because he expects more from his students. This doesn't necessarily mean he's a bad teacher though.
Final Decisions: Termination: Professor Trelawney (Based on Lack of Knowledge and Necessity for Re-Training) Best Teacher: Professor Flitwick (Based on Positive Teaching Attitude and Atmosphere conducive for Learning)
Daichi finished writing the final lines on the page, then slipped his pen back into the satchel slung around his shoulder. He carefully reviewed his notes, and prepared for the task ahead of him. His notes may not have been written to the standards of the High Inquisitor, but judging the specifics of others was definitely not his strong suit. Dealing with situations was... He sighed and looked ahead, waiting for someone to approach him...
The enormous form of Rubeus Hagrid appeared in from of the man and he was crying silently into his beard. After blowing his nose like a foghorn he looked at him and said, "Wha you wan fire me fur? I know lots abou the Creatures." he shifted nervously from foot to foot and dabbed at his eyes.
Michel couldn't help but furrow his brow a little at the massive amount of man which had just appeared in front of him. Wow, he was HUGE. And he was crying? Well, he was the last person to show any pity or sympathy for him so there. Clearing his throat a little the 29 year old got up from his chair and ran a hand through his hair. "Well, Sir-" Could he considered a Sir? Well, politness still was very high on his list. "-it has come to my attention that you are in fact a danger to your students by forcing them to work with dangerous, inappropriate creatures."
Then with a small almost lazy glance at his finger nails he added, "Therefore, I am certain you are not suited for the position of Care of Magical Creatures Professor." So, there, job done. Could he go now? There were way too many people inside this room for his taste...
S"Once you have completed your task and I feel it is to the Education Department's standards you will be given the chance to fire your chosen Professor. This of course will be an illusion. I want to see how you all would handle such a situation," she said with a crooked grin as she made her way back to the desk in front of the room and took a seat.
Marina picked up the paper that had landed on her desk, and took a deep breath. There was a reason she was here, and it began - and ended - at the term "education." She loved to learn, to delve into new things -- analyses, mystery, erudition, one may pick any, or all - and anything that would be a help in such a cause, was more than welcome.
She read through the material they had been given, twice, before picking up a quill, dipping it in ink, and starting to write.

Professor Flitwick; Charms:
This is a subject that requires, more than anything else, the power to concentrate, and to will. Intention is important to charms, and that is exactly why I believe Professor Flitwick's, is a job well done. He is a cheerful and nice person, and that - more than anything else - encourages students to give what they may think they can not do, a try.
A healthy environment, which one may be at total ease in, and the knowledge that he or she will be awarded and appreciated for good work, is a part of what drives a student forward, and Professor Flitwick is fully aware of that. In my opinion, 'merriment' in a class in which the students were also 'focused on their studies' is nothing bad - it only goes to prove, beyond all doubt, that the students are enjoying learning.
Bottom line; Knows his job!
Professor Trelawney; Divination:
Divination is a very 'See or Don't' subject - you either can, or can't. While I believe there is no doubt that Professor Trelawney may actually have inherited the great C. Trelawney's genes, there is also no doubt that she is not the best teacher, out there. This is not because of any negation of who she is - someone who does possess the ability to look into the future - but because of the lack of good teaching techniques.
Teaching is an art -- and one that can, thankfully, be polished, with a little effort. In my opinion, Professor Trelawney lacks, more than anything else, this polish: she focuses more on the textbook than on practicality, and her class zones in, not on the subject itself, but on her whims --- false predictions that she makes only to garner interest.
Bottom line; Teacher, or Not? Needs to re-evalute where she stands.
Professor Hagrid; Care of Magical Creatures:
Is Professor Hagrid good with magical creatures? There is no doubt that he is. He knows his Creatures Dictionary and has, certainly, an extensive knowledge of which is which, and what is what. He knows how to handle them; and, very importantly, will not hesitate to protect his students, should anything ever go amiss -- a significant quality that is not found in every Care of Magical Creatures teacher, though it should be.
What Professor Hagrid lacks, then, is awareness of how to convey his knowledge to students, and what to set, in the curricula. How can one expect, from a man who did not even get to filly complete his schooling, classes that are up to Ministry standards? I believe the Department of Magical Education should offer workshops designed to pinpoint exactly how to teach effectively, to teachers at Hogwarts. This could remedy Professor Hagrid's teaching, and give Hogwarts a professor to be proud of.
Bottom line; Diamond in the rough!
Professor Sprout; Herbology
Professor Sprout knows her subject to a tittle, and is fully aware how to convery her extensive knowledge, to her students. She encourages group-work, which teaches co-operation and co-ordination - often required, as I believe she knows, when studying herbology extensively, and at higher levels, mostly due to the fickle and dangerous nature of specific, magical plants, or the need to experiment with their usage under fully-controlled conditions - and makes students feel less apprehensive, about approaching plants that they may feel are out to eat them.
In short, she may have developed her own - healthy - techniques, but knows exactly what she is doing, and how to go about her job.
Bottom line; A valuable asset to the staff.
Professor Snape; Potions:
Professor Snape is a potions master, par excellence - he has his facts down, and knows his ingredients - the major requirement of a brilliant potioneer. He appears to be a brave and logical person, which makes him even better-suited to the job, as that ensures he will not be too scared to experiment with his own work, while making sure, at the same time, that his students remain out-of-danger, as long as they are under his watch.
That said, he can also be cold person, and regularly shows favouritism and bias - the coldness can be accepted, but the later two drawbacks, certainly not. I believe Professor Snape needs to reassess his position, and not use his authority unfairly.
Bottom line; Excellent teachers, but needs to be talked to.
Done. Well, not completely, but nearly. Marina read through what she had written and, somewhat satisfied by it, dipped her quill in ink again, and proceeded to write the final paragraphs.
Quote:
{ Fire Alert } For a non-professional attitude, no know-how of proper teaching techniques, and lack of practical knowledge of the subject.
If I had to fire a professor from the given list, I would fire Professor Trelawney. Not because I doubt her ability to see into the future, but because she lacks basic teaching skills. Her attitude is non-professional, and completely acceptable - she often makes predictions of students' deaths, and such behaviour in the classroom can not be tolerated. It may become highly annoying for the student in question - as well as all the other students - and, even worse, may distract them from their studies, or frighten them into not taking the class. A crude practice, and Professor Trelawney probably does not realize its disadvantages and unhealthy effects.
That said, she also focuses more on impressing students with her ability to 'See,' than teaching the subject. All in all, her attitude in the class does not reflect that of a professional teacher, whose aim is to deliver the best of her knowledge to her students.
{ The Diamond }
For extensive knowledge of the subject, the ability to convey it to students, and proper teaching techniques that ensure a safe and healthy environment in the classroom.
I believe the best teacher, on the given list, is Professor Sprout. Not only does she know her subject, she also knows exactly how to pass it on to a class of students. She is dedicated, energetic, makes students' safety a priority, and encourages them by rewarding hard work.
There.
Finallyy done!
Marina laid down her quill, and began to read what she had written, once more. It sounded right enough to her. Even though she wasn't looking forward to firing anyone. That would be tough, no doubt. Couldn't they get to have a nice chat with their favourite professor, for a change? Maybe over a mug of hot chocolate, or coffee?
Ah, well. If wishes had been horses, everyone would have gotten one to ride. But they aren't -- and that, my friend, is life.

It disappeared. It disappeared? Did that mean she was done? Did she do this right? Glancing around, she finished organizing the things on her desk before slowly bending down and grabbing her bag. Well, whether this meant she was done or not, she was slipping out of this room no matter what! Standing up, she made her way to the door, glancing at the one lady she couldn't remember the name of, but who seemed to be in charge of this...place...and went to the next...place. Hopefully she wouldn't be 'firing' anyone else today.
Chase Carter waited until the woman before them all had finished speaking and then picked up his copy of the report. He read through it and frowned a little, shaking his head, and he began to write;
Charms: Professor Flitwick's friendly approach to learning may appear to be the cause of the accidents that are happening in his classroom but Charms is not an easy subject to master. Mistakes are going to happen. Should he put his students under too much pressure they may respond in a negative way and learning levels may decrease. Perhaps a slightly more disciplined attitude could be put into place for those students whom are repeatedly making mistakes, however, to reinforce the learning they have been doing.
Plus Points: Happy working atmosphere
Minus Points: Perhaps a lack of punishment for students who repeatedly incorrectly perfom spells.
Chase read his response and nodded sloly to himself before reading the next and responding to that as well;
Divination: Professor Trelawney seems to both lack knowledge and to lack ability to teach her subject. Surely she can't be allowed to continue to teach a subject when she knows nothing about it? Should she go on a training course, she may be able to regain some sort of control of classes by actually having a knowledge of her subject. Without this training though, there is little point in keeping her in employment.
Plus Points: She could do training.
Minus Points: She knows nothing of her subject and can't keep control of classes.
Chase was fairly certain he already knew who he would be firing from this point alone but he would analyse the rest of the teachers anyway in order to be completely certain;
Care of Magical Creatures: As far as I am aware, this analysis of Professor Hagrid's lessons is far from true. Injuries resulting from bad behaviour in class (something which may not be controllable should the students decide to disobey) can be blamed more on a lack of obedience from the students than on the lesson being taught and the man who was teaching it. Far from being intimidating, Professor Hagrid tends to be seen much more as a gentle giant and therefore, with a bit of guidance from the Ministry, I am certain that he could come up to the correct standards when teaching. Perhaps a new selection of lesson plans that are thought up along with Professor Hagrid so that his influences are included would be more appropriate than removing a man with such evident knowledge of the subject he teaches.
Plus Points: High knowledge of the subject and a generally liked man among the students
Minus Points: Students have been injured in his classes
Chase then went on to read the next report and he frowned, analysing it as he read;
Herbology: The use of foul language and high amounts of group work seem to be the main point of concern for the High Inquisitor, yet students use this sort of langauge all the time. Working in groups with other young people is what may be encouraging them to do this. She is not incapable of teaching, as far as I can see, but perhaps if group work is such a large problem, dealing with more smaller plants may be necessary so that they can work alone rather than needing the help of their friends to complete the projects she is setting them.
Plus Points: Group work is encouraged, building team work among the students. A vast knowledge is evident or she would not be allowing the students to work without her instruction on some tasks.
Minus Points: Foul language being used rather profusely may need to be looked at.
Chase's eyes glanced at the final paragraph and he smiled, glad that they weren't being asked to go through the entire staff list as he was sure he might get rather angry with the High Inquisitor if he had to read much more of what she had written;
Potions: Professor Snape is known to prefer Slytherins to any other house and have a particular hatred for Gryffindors. However, he has a very vast knowledge of the subject and even chooses to teach students more than is necessary which shows that he is truly trying to prepare them for the outside world.
Plus Points: A very knowledgeable man who is trying to prepare students for life after Hogwarts.
Minus Points: A hint of favoritism may need to be addressed.
Chase, at this point, decided he would add an extra analysis to what he had written so far;
High Inquisitor Dolores Umbridge: In my honest opinion, her analysis of professors and the way in which she carries out her reports may need to be looked at. She seems to only really be picking out the negative points and not allowing the positives to shine through as they ought to. These Professors are known to be very highly educated, perhaps with one exception, and Hogwarts is a very highly regarded school. If there was the number of faults there which have been suggested here, I do not believe it would be so highly thought about.
Now to write a conlusion was all that was left for Chase. He was grateful to be able to finish this task.
In conclusion, I believe that the teacher that needs to be fired, or at least an awful lot of retraining, would have to be Sybil Trelawney. I don't doubt that she was hired in good faith by the Headmaster of Hogwarts but I do believe her employment needs to be terminated unless she is willing to do a lot of work to bring things up to scratch.
Hagrid looked at the woman and smiled wetly. With a little look of understanding the image shimmered and disappeared.
Kat smiled back at the illusion, and when it dissapeared, she breathed in deeply. She looked around at the other crying and protesting illusions. With a a little sniff, she got up and walked out to go tothe next level.
Tasha read over the reports and took out her fancy purple quill and started to write down on who she would keep as a teacher.
she looked down at her parchment and looked it over once, then the hard part was now to become.
She without thinking put the end of the quill to her lips as she started to chew. As soon as she took notice on what she was doing, she didn't think that was very good behavour for a Division head to act, she whipped the quill out between her lips and started to write once again
she looked down once more and gave her self a small little nod.
The image of Severus Snape appeared in front of the woman and sneered. "You think that Hogwarts no longer requires my services.. why is that, silly girl?" Snape spat the words seethingly.

He grimaced at the 'test'. It was a challenge, and that was enough. After a while of standing and staring blankly at the papers, he started to fill some blank one's out. He especially focused on the CoMC teacher, a Mr. Hagrid.

Charms:
While Professor Flitwick is cheerful and welcoming, the Hogwarts High Inquisitor, that is to say I, feel that this demeanor encourages the wrong sort of learning environment. While the students were focused on their studies, there were more mishaps than one would have expected, all of which resulted in far too much merriment.
Points for improvement: Professor Flitwick should focus on disciplining his classes when they step out of line, and conduct his lessons with a serious manner.
Action to be taken: Probation not deemed to be necessary.
Divination: Professor Trelawney lacks the basic skills of divination and teaching. Her predictions are a mixture of deduction and wild guesses. Her class control is minimal, she resorts to making ghoulish predictions in order to scare or bore her students into submission. She is also unable to make predictions on request.
Points for improvement: Professor Trelawney needs to revisit some tried and tested, ministry approved disciplinary procedures and apply them. She must also become more accurate in her predictions and teaching methods.
Action to be taken: Further inspection is required. Probation may be a necessary measure.
Care of Magical Creatures:Professor Hagrid is difficult to understand, intimidating to the students and seems to take pleasure in the thought of other people being hurt. His curriculum is vastly inappropriate for the age group he is teaching and he refuses to admit this. There have been injuries in his classes, one of which has led to a hypogryff being sentenced to death by the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures, although the beast escaped, something that the Hogwarts High Inquisitor, that is to say I, am convinced was arranged by Professor Hagrid.
Points for improvement: Professor Hagrid should follow the lesson plans left by Professor Grubbly-Plank while he reassesses his curriculum so that it is in line with Ministry expectations. He should also concentrate on enunciating clearly so that the students can understand him.
Action to be taken: Further inspection is required. Probation may be a necessary measure.
Herbology: While Professor Sprout has a sound knowledge of her subject and so she is able to convey this knowledge to a reasonable standard. However, she allows her pupils to use foul language in her classes, something that the Hogwarts High Inquisitor, that is to say I, find most abhorrent and unnecessary. The amount of group work that is undertaken by Professor Sprout’s classes is also of concern, as they seem at times to almost be teaching each other, rather than receiving instruction from her.
Points for improvement: Professor Sprout would benefit from revisiting and revising some basic teaching skills, including what is acceptable language for the classroom.
Action to be taken: Probation not deemed to be necessary.
Potions:
Professor Snape is a highly competent Professor who had excellent control over his classes. It is clear that he has consistently and throughly educated his students throughout his tenure at Hogwarts. The Hogwarts High Inquisitor, that is to say I, have doubts about some of the potions that are currently on the syllabus, for example Strengthening Solution. However, there are other considerations to take into account which outweigh this. Professor Snape seems to be highly skilled in many areas and seems to be an asset to the school.
Points for improvement: Professor Snape should consider revising which potions are on the syllabus as some of them are too advanced for young children.
Action to be taken: Probation not deemed to be necessary.
Annabeth smiled as Antigone finished her little sermon. She certainly enjoyed education. Good for her.
She got out a leaf of parchment, and readied herself for the task at hand.
She read over the reports from Umbridge, and immedaitely began to write. I think Umbridge should be fired, but since I did not find her on her own evaluation sheet, I will not choose her.I feel that Sybil Treawlney should be sacked. She fails to keep the attention of her students. She doesn't seem to discipline her children, and tries instead to return their attention to herself by making false "predictions". Her class has no structure. Her students learn nothing, and seemingly use the period for a study hall or just sleep or chat. Classes are there to learn, and Sybil fails to teach the children. On the other hand, the teacher I think is best suited for his job is Flitwick. He effectively teaches the students, and makes learning fun. The students stay engaged in the lesson, and immensely enjoy the class. Learing is made fun, and the goal of educating the masses has been met with flying colors.
There. That ought to do it.
The image of Sybill Trelawney appeared in front of the woman and immediately began to wail and sob. “Why, young lady, why? Hogwarts is my HOME”

Fortunately, or unfortunately.
The image of Trelawney came to be in front of the woman and dabbed at her eyes underneath her glasses. “Why, dear girl, would you fire me and have me removed from my home?” the illusion asked.

Chase read his response and nodded sloly to himself before reading the next and responding to that as well;
Divination: Professor Trelawney seems to both lack knowledge and to lack ability to teach her subject.
Chase was fairly certain he already knew who he would be firing from this point alone but he would analyse the rest of the teachers anyway in order to be completely certain;
Chase then went on to read the next report and he frowned, analysing it as he read;
Chase's eyes glanced at the final paragraph and he smiled, glad that they weren't being asked to go through the entire staff list as he was sure he might get rather angry with the High Inquisitor if he had to read much more of what she had written;
Chase, at this point, decided he would add an extra analysis to what he had written so far;
The image of Sybill Trelawney appeared and began to sob. “Whhhy? Whyyyy me?”
OOC: Those of you whose images have disappeared please wait for your PM
The image of Sybill Trelawney appeared and began to sob. “Whhhy? Whyyyy me?”
Chase raised an eyebrow at the figure momentarily, then shook his head, "Because all of the other teachers have a greater knowledge of their subject and are more capable of keeping control of their classes." He had never really liked the woman; why should he start to like her now?

"I am very sorry Mr Hagrid, but we need to think about the education and safety of the pupils and I do not believe that you set the standards high enough to be their teacher. I do not doubt that you are great with magical creatures, however I do not think you are able to control them well enough to use in your lessons. Knowing that students have been harmed whilst in your classes, I am obliged to do what is necessary to maintain the students' safety within the school and throughout every one of their subjects, and I do not feel that you are suited for the job. I hope you can understand that sir." Lucia explained cautiously.

It seemed just as quickly as the vision of Mr. Hagrid appeared, it disappeared soon after Laura was finished "firing" him. She felt warm inside. Must have been from completing the challenge. Picking up her things, she left the room.

Tasha didn't expect mr. Snape to just show up right now in front of her face "Ohh," she said in a small whisper.
Then she pulled her courgage and stood right up in front of his greasy little nose.
"Silly Girl?," she questioned him.
"I think you would be the best suited to be fired, due to on the count that you treat each one of your students differently, some your rude to and some your treat like they are your best of friends." she said giving the man a look in the face.
"you also treat other professors with disrespect, when your suppost to be a team, how do you think that looks on the students?" she said giving him a glaring look once agian.
"Some students you believe can perform magic of a higher grade, but theres some you don't believe in, This isn't right for a teacher of your status mr.Snape. Im surprised how long you have actually lasted there." she said snapping back at him.
The image of Snape sneered and the shimmered out of being.
Laura shook her head as saw Snape shimmer out. man...he is so intimidating even when he is an illusion she thought.Looking around she got up as she was done with her challenge and walked out of the room, excited about the next level...
Oh, wow, now that had been easy. Could he go now? Michel hovered at his seat - a little unsure of how to proceed - for a moment. Though, judging by all the others left too, it probably meant he was allowed to go now. Thank Merlin for that! Only hopefully this was going to be over soon...
Rubbing the back of his neck he took his things and swiftly walked out of the door, his eyes fixated on where he was going. There was not a single person in this room who he wanted to talk to. Not a single one. People! Pfft!
[center]The scowling shape of Severus Snape appeared in front of the man and crossed his arms carelessly and quirked an eyebrow. “Well, let’s hear what you have to say,” he said in his drawling voice.
Pierre nodded "with all due respect Professor Snape I believe that you are not suited for this job" began the Frenchmen looking Snape in the eyes. Pierre took a breath and continued "it is not because you lack knowledge, no on the contrary you have high knowledge in your field, but you lack patience Professor" Pierre waited for him to speak though an illusion he though it might have something you say and since it didn't make a sound he went on "you lack the skills to work with students Professor Snape with in the field of education can be more important than the knowledge in your field."

Melina so much as blinked and the image of Sybil Trelawney faded away. Okay, so she guessed that she was onto the next challenge. This would be fun! Getting up from her chair, Melina said a quick "Thank you." to whomever there was to thank for putting this together- the higherups she supposed, and made her way out the door and onto the next challenge.
The image of Trelawney came to be in front of the woman and dabbed at her eyes underneath her glasses. “Why, dear girl, would you fire me and have me removed from my home?” the illusion asked.
Marina frowned. "I'm sorry, Miss Trelawney, but you do not come up to the standards that Hogwarts sets for its teachers. Your non-professional attitude and tendency to --" To what? Fake? Marina didn't think she could say that. "To exaggerate does not go well with your inadequate grasp on your subject, and teaching techniques, either. I am sorry to say that Hogwarts no longer requires your services."
She fell silent. She could not say she felt sorry for the illusion - it was, after all, an illusion. Right?
The sobbing form of one Rubeus Hagrid appeared and simply sobbed, unable to speak as he waited for the man to fire him.
Oh, Robert was shock when a sobbing giant appeared in front of him. Oh great, this was going to be difficut. I mean those tears are huge. "Hag...Hagri..." this was proving difficult since he couldn't even hear himself over the mans sobbing. " Hagrid," he said raising his voice a little. "I'm sorry to be having to do this, but the way you teach your class puts your students in an unsafe enviorment. I'm sure you are very competent with these creatures, but you have to take into account that not every one can handle all creatures. I beleive you would be better off in a diffrent position in the wizarding world, something to get people out of danger instead of putting your students into it. I'm only doing what I feel is right for the students. I have to let you go." He ended it there hopefully the giant will go off with out retorts.
The sobbing form of Trelawney appeared, too distraught to speak. She simply cried into her scarves and watched, bug eyed, waiting to be terminated.
Daichi stood from his desk, attempting to keep a cool air about him. Seeing the emotion in Trelawney's eyes tugged at his heart strings. "Unfortunately Miss Trelawney, It has come to the ministries attention..." He was having to struggle to form the words in his mind and keep his own tears back. He decided that it would just be easiest to get it out... "... that due to your lack of satisfactory performance, your services are no longer required at Hogwarts. Thank you for your past tenure, and I'm sorry."
He bowed ever so slightly, waiting for her response...
Alice walked into the room, jumping as the woman's voice echoed across the area. She stood nervously, stick straight, a few paces from the door, before realizing nearly everyone else was seating themselves. Eying the parchment in many of their hands she glanced around to discover it had been sitting by the door she had entered moments ago. Alice hastily grabbed a piece, not even giving it a second glance until she had sat down among the other Ministry Employees.
She listened as the Department head spoke in front of the crowd. Briefly, she wondered where her old Department head had gone to- Samantha Rose, but Alice quickly shook the thoughts from her head in order to properly concentrate on the task at hand. The smallest of smiles curved upon her lips as Antigone explained precisely what the task would be. She had the proper background knowledge from books... or at least Alice thought she did. The facts she'd learned from the revised version of Hogwarts a History would probably be helpful anyway. That and the fact that she’d spent her first year or so at the Ministry as part of the Department of Magical Education.
She bit her lip thoughtfully as people began to disperse and start the task. Alice looked to the black board that Antigone had written and then back down at the paper on her lap.
She started to read... She read the whole evaluation. As she did so Alice did as Antigone said to and thought of the validity of each of Umbridge's reports.
SPOILER!!: Professor Flitwick
Extract from the Initial Report of the Hogwarts High Inquisitor
Hmm...
Alice liked cheerful people. As a kid she liked the teachers that had fun lesson plans. Enthusiastic teachers encouraged children encouraged children to learn. She agreed with the report to some extent though. It was easy for a class to get out a hand when an easy-going teacher was in charge. It was impossible for Alice to know just how chaotic that the Professor's classes got...
However, Alice was quite sure that Umbridge had made the right decision by not putting him on probation. She put a little check mark on her paper next to the evaluation and moved on.
SPOILER!!: Professor Trelawney
Divination: Professor Trelawney lacks the basic skills of divination and teaching. Her predictions are a mixture of deduction and wild guesses. Her class control is minimal, she resorts to making ghoulish predictions in order to scare or bore her students into submission. She is also unable to make predictions on request.
Points for improvement: Professor Trelawney needs to revisit some tried and tested, ministry approved disciplinary procedures and apply them. She must also become more accurate in her predictions and teaching methods.
Action to be taken: Further inspection is required. Probation may be a necessary measure.
Alice stared at the paper for a moment, quirking an eyebrow.
In Alice's opinion a Divination teacher should be able to make predictions. However, she also thought that, considering the fact seers were so rare, a Divination teacher that wasn't a seer, but still knew their information, would still be qualified.
It wasn't the fact that she was a suspected fraud that caught Alice's attention though. It was this: "she resorts to making ghoulish predictions in order to scare or bore her students into submission". That disgusted her. Alice herself, was very easily frightened; she couldn't imagine what it would be like to be in a class day after day hearing the bad things that would happen soon. She would have been even more paranoid.
On top of her knack for frightening students, like Flitwick, Trelawney was noted to have little control of her class.
Alice seriously considered firing her. She agreed with Umbridge's "Action to be Taken", but she didn't agree with her reasons. So, she put a big X next to her evaluation and then a checkmark next to her "Action to be Taken".
SPOILER!!: Hagrid
Care of Magical Creatures: Professor Hagrid is difficult to understand, intimidating to the students and seems to take pleasure in the thought of other people being hurt.
Alice's lips parted, her expression slowly transforming from skeptical to one of shock.
She didn't think that the headmaster of the time, Dumbledore, would have allowed such a person to teach, though she was aware of how notorious the former headmaster was for his believe in second chances. The man, Hagrid, sounded absolutely horrifying to her in the report.
No matter how gentle he was noted to be in books on the Battle of Hogwarts, Alice reasoned, Umbridge's claims couldn't be completely false. The report seemed very much biased.
It was really difficult to see through the bias obviously embedded throughout her work. Alice marked an X by her evaluation. Then she added a check mark by the "Action to be Taken" and "Points for Improvement"
SPOILER!!: Professor Sprout
Well. A dirty mouth in Herbology, then? That didn't seem too bad at all. It was only one aspect of her class she didn't have good control over, versus Flitwick and Trelawny who were noted to have issues controlling ALL of the parts of their classes.
Alice overlooked the part where Umbridge voiced how skeptical she was about Professor Sprout's teaching strategy of pairing the students up or putting them in groups. Some plants were difficult to handle alone, Alice recalled, and a teacher couldn't help all her pupils at once, of course.
She didn't find probation necessary either. She really seemed like one of the best of the teachers that Umbridge had bothered to do a written report about.
Alice didn't mark anything at all by the general evaluation, it was mostly fact rather opinion so there wasn't much to approve or disprove of, really. She put a check by both of the other sections of the report.
SPOILER!!: Professor Snape
Potions:
Professor Snape is a highly competent Professor who had excellent control over his classes. It is clear that he has consistently and thoroughly educated his students throughout his tenure at Hogwarts.
Professor Snape.
Hmm. Alice tapped her fingers upon her chair arm, as she read through the evaluation. She thought more advanced potions work was good. Why not educate the students on information that would come later in the curriculum if you had time? Simply reading it, and drawing all her information from the report, Alice surely would have picked Professor Snape as the most valuable professor of the bunch... the MVP. However, she was well read, and Alice knew of the Professor's reputation among his former students. He seemed harsh. Word was, Professor Snape was the opposite of Professor Flitwick. He was cruel, harsh on students, and very, very strict.
Alice check-marked the general assessment, drew a neat X next to Points for improvement and then... After a little hesitation, Alice put an X next to Action to Be Taken. She thought that probation should have been at least considered.
It was time to deliberate. Who was the worst, and who was the best of the bunch?
Alice tapped her pen on her knee, hunching over the paper, looking at her marks, and then up at the chalkboard, her brown eyes scanning back and forth across the letters.
After about ten minutes of this (she liked to think things over), Alice decided who she would have sacked.
SPOILER!!: Fired- Trelawney
Quote:
To Be Fired
I believe that, while there are others on the staff that seriously need to seriously reconsider their teaching methods, Professor Sybill Trelawney is the one that should be fired.
She scares children with her prophecies only to prove her claims of being a seer true, and is incompetent at keeping control of her classroom.
I find the first reason, of all of them I listed, quite sickening. Students should not have to be subject to senseless fear or irrational worry from her predictions. They should be able to learn from predictions. Even if her predictions of tragedy are valid, then I still find that she announces these to the class a highly inappropriate invasion of privacy.
Professor Trelawney is at Hogwarts to teach divination, and in order to do so she should be teaching the curriculum, not putting on a show with her so-called predictions and showing off her so-called skills. It's no wonder she has difficulty keeping control over her classes when she does that each lesson.
She read over it, scratching out a few things...fixing them, going over it again...and repeating the same process, until she was satisfied that her work was sufficient.
Alice peered up from the paper, catching sight of other ministry workers firing hallucinations, and she felt butterflies bat their wings in her stomach. Alice didn't like the idea of actually firing someone, even if they were, you know... not really SOMEONE. She didn't like making other people upset.
Trying her very best not to let her thoughts stray Alice turned back to her work, reviewing it again before making her choice. It didn't take nearly as long for her to decide who was the star of the group of professors as it did for her to decide who to fire.
SPOILER!!: Best of the Group- Sprout
Quote:
Best of the Group
I believe that Professor Sprout is best suited to be a teacher out of all the professors listed. She clearly knows what she's doing; whether Umbridge says so or not. I think that group work is great for Herbology, considering the fact that many plants really can't be handled by one person alone AND a professor can't help all the students at once.
As The High Inquisitor states, she also knows her facts. You can't teach what you don't know, obviously... and she definitely knows what she's teaching and can communicate it to her students in a professional manner while still making interactive, hands-on, somewhat entertaining, lessons that a student can enjoy.
Alice dotted that last period with a flourish. She held her work up to the light and read it over one more time, checking for errors and making sure it made sense.
Wyatt took his time to think about all the professors in Hogwarts. He knew for a fact that Professor Albus Dumbledore and Professor Minerva McGonagall were both the best Professors to stay within Hogwarts. The only problem Wyatt was having was thinking about two different professors to choose from to fire.
1. Rubues Hagrid
2. Sybill Trelawney
Wyatt could not make up his mind and it bugged him so much that he worked at for what seemed like hours. Then Wyatt decided not to try and think about both them at once but to try and narrow it down one at a time. So he did that and he took out a few extra pieces of parchment and started to write about both professors individually and then counclude which one is far worse than the other.
Quote:
Rubes Hagrid
Professor Hagrid may be an itimidating person to look at at first but when you get to know him he a very nice individual. Professor Hagrid has has no assertiveness about him what so ever. He thinks that working with magical creatures is just a game and he dosent take that serious ingury could result to a student if the wrong instruction was given.
Quote:
Sybill Trelawney
Professor Trelawney also had a unique personality when you would meet this person and also she would sometime seem wierd to other people. She may seemed to be not a true Seer but some of her prophecies that she predicted did come true so you never know. Professor Trelawney seems to have the potential to be a good Divination Teacher, I just believe she needs to be trained on how to handle her students and be more assertive.
Wyatt seemed happy with what progress he had made and with that he looked over both his reveiws and then wrote on the blank parchment.
Quote:
Professor to be fired: Professor Rubeus Hagrid
Professor to stay: Professor Filius Flitwick
Reasoning: Professor Flitwick is an outstanding professor and the young students that pass through hogwarts can learn quite a bit from him. He also help in the protection of Hogwarts Castle in the time of Lord Voldemort was in power.
Antigone was still perched atop her desk, deet swinging as she watched her lovely spellwork and all of her pupils at work. "Lovely work you all!" she shouted above the den and smiled indulgantly.
