Challenge Five OOC: Unless otherwise indicated, your character's response and answers should be roleplayed and posted in this thread rather than PMed to the round host. Hosted by: AmbiguouslyMe Christian stood in front of the room, three easels covered in fabric next to him. Wand in his right hand, he stood with his hands clasped together in front of him. “In an emergency,” he began, “any number of things that you do every day could go horribly, horribly wrong.” Those who knew Christian Trumbull knew him to be a light-hearted, rather upbeat man, but at the moment, he was anything but. “Apparition requires concentration… concentration that may be lacking if one is attempting to escape a dangerous situation. The possibilities for splinching increase exponentially when one is in distress. Today we’ll talk a little bit about what to do with a splinching injury in an emergency. We’ll assume that you’re coming upon an emergency, and not that it is yourself that was splinched.” Christian flicked his wand and the fabric flew away from the first display. SPOILER!!: Display 1 “The first thing you have to do, after you make sure the area is safe, is get all the information. Where did the victim come from? Was this their intended destination? What was left behind? Is it safe to go retrieve it?” Christian moved closer to the display, tapping the picture with his wand. “You’ll also want to find out if you need to call in any others. Like Obliviators. Accidental muggle side-alongs can get... messy.” “Clearly, you cannot ask anything if the person is not responsive, so, move on to the next step.” Moving to the second display, Christian again flicked his wand, removing the fabric. SPOILER!!: Display 2 “Next, you’ll want to assess the injuries. You can do this visually while you’re asking questions, especially if when you arrived they needed immediate attention. Don’t let anyone bleed to death simply because you didn’t get their name, first.” “Minor injuries you should be able to address without much difficulty. But know your limits. Major splinching injuries require very delicate spellwork and should be left to those trained to do so. Figure out what is missing and be able to relay those details.” Christian moved to the last display. “Treatment. Either for stabilizing a victim until help arrives or treating the injury yourself, depending. Chances are you won’t be carrying restorative potions or dittany when you happen across an emergency, so these are all things you can do just with a wand.” Christian pulled the sheet off with his hand this time, revealing a list of healing-related spells. SPOILER!!: Display 3 “Your task will be to successfully treat a splinching victim. The lovely Ms. Zaster will be assisting us, but you may call her Dee.” Christian gestured over to the magical medical dummy over in the corner, chuckling softly. “She will present each of you with a unique set of circumstances.” ooc: In order to pass on to the next level, you must interact with and treat the dummy accordingly. You will receive your key to the next level once you have have done so. |
Splinching. Lovely. He listened carefully... moreso than before. He had learned quite a bit about healing before, and even worked in the hospital back at the encampment. However, splinching, oddly enough, wasn't something he really encountered there. As far as he knew, no one really apparated. He started his way over to the dummy, looking to Mr. Trumbull. "Will we be given something that is at our level to treat, or if encounting something that is beyond our ability do we bring the 'patient' and information to you?" |

She stood, in silence, as the Head - that of the Department of Magical Transportation, she did not know his name, unfortunately - explained the thought process behind this challenge. Splinching? Eep. That was not a nice prospect, even for someone like Marina, who had seen much more horrible stuff - for better or for worse, she could not say - before. With a little shake of her head, she stepped up to the dummy. Dee, or whatever else it - she - was called. |
Benjamin walked into the next room simultaneously with Mr. Carracio. It seems as though they were neck and neck in this thing, but when he found out it was splinching, Ben felt a little nervous. He wasn't as bad at healing charms as he was at magical creatures, but this was still trouble for him. After the presentation was over, Ben approached the dummy. "Hello, Dee," he said to the dummy. He waited for a response. "Where did you just come from and where were you trying to go?" |

"Use your best judgment." |
He nodded, though took in the man's body language. He was quite out of it, it seemed. Of course, he had good reason. It was a hard reminder of the real reason they were all doing it now. "Don't worry," he said softly. He gestured over to Ben. "He and I will get through all of this... and everything will be fine." With that, he finished his trek over to the dummy, first checking to see if it was conscious... Well, appeared conscious, anyway. It was a dummy after all. |

“I tried so terribly hard to get away,” she said, her voice shaking. “Guess I didn’t manage quite well enough.” Quote:

Right working on a medical dummy. How hard could this actually be? Hopefully not too hard. If it was Skander well... He wasn't the best at healing spells although he had a mean obliviate so if he needed to do that he'd be fine. Approaching the dummy Skander waited to see what injuries he'd be presented with. It should be interesting to say the least. |

Since the area was as safe as it could be, Marina decided she would start with the questions. "Could you tell me who you are - where you are from, and where you were headed to?" The question had a double purpose: not only to see where Dee could possibly have left her two fingers, but also to gather whether Dee was a witch, or a muggle who had been accidentally grabbed by, say, someone in a panic. Then she could gauge if an obliviator or healer was needed - well, a healer, probably. Not an obliviator, given that Marina was excellent with memory charms, having worked as an obliviator, before. |
Ronan Cavanaugh walked through the next door with the assistance of the key in his right hand and looked to see that this challenge was run by Christian Trumbull, a friend of his wife’s. ‘Well this should turn out to be really interesting.’ He thought as he listened to what the elderly gentleman had to say in regards to splinching and what the challenge would be about. Ronan cringed at the thought of losing various body parts while apparating, but it was a necessary mode of transportation in a hurry. Looking over to the dummy as she spoke, the young man clenched his jaw looking at her various injuries. It appeared that she would need medical attention for her apparently missing ear, and it also looked like she was missing a few fingers. The least of her injuries seemed to be the hair of her eyebrows and he walked over to the medical dummy, listening also to what she had to say. As Ronan approached her he noted that she probably couldn’t go back to the scene because she had left in such a hurry. Being in that emotional state of distress was probably why she lost some appendages. ‘The park…’ he thought and then went to go ask his first question to Ms. Zaster. “Excuse me miss, but were there many Muggles at the park when you were there? I’m just wondering if we’ll need to send Obliviators to the scene of the crime.” Ronan asked smiling politely to the dummy. |

Christian flicked his wand at the dummy Ronan would be working on. |
Ronan felt his face flush as he realized his mistake and stepped back from the dummy, his hands in his pockets as he waited for his own dummy to go before him. |

Holding her hand in front of her face, Dee’s voice shook. “I-I-I sp-splinched m-my ear.” She did not register the man’s question other than to say, “Ch-chasing me. Street. H-here.” Quote:
“That’s a funny word, too. Are you alright? Maybe you hit your head when…” she paused and chewed on her thumb. “When whatever happened to me, happened.” She rubbed her arm, then, where it was sore. Quote:
Dee sat against the wall, staring at the ceiling. Her shirt was torn at the shoulder, but it wasn’t apparent whether there was any damage underneath. She shifted uncomfortably as the man approached. Quote:
“I’m Dee, Dee Zaster, miss. Who are you?” The dummy narrowed her eyes at the woman, suspiciously. Waving the hand missing two fingers, she spoke dismissively. “I won’t tell you anything until I know who you are.” Quote:
Turning her head to face Ronan, she winced. “Well, don’t just stand there. Lady could use a cushion or something.” |

He then looked at the arm she was rubbing. "Did somebody grab you?" He asked. |
Quote:
"If you co-operate with me, we could get somewhere." Her voice was gentle, as she bent down, to sit next to Dee. "You need help, Miss Zaster." She was here, to provide that help - if only Dee would co-operate. |

“There was arguing. And fireworks. I went outside to yell at them and they both…” Dee paused, mouth open in a little ‘o’ of surprise. “They both had funny sticks like yours!” Dee opened her eyes, then, to make an additional point when she noticed the hair in front of her eyes. “AHHHH!” Quote:
“But if you must know, I was attempting to apparate away from a muggle who was chasing me, I can only imagine, for my jewels.” Dee gestured with the injured hand, again, pointing to her neck which was devoid of any such item. Quote:
She turned her face to the man. “Thank you,” she said softly. “I turned into an alley not too far from the Leaky Cauldron and tried to apparate to the ministry entrance so I could go to the aurors. I..” Dee looked around. “Where did I end up?” |

He looked down at the clipboard and back up at the man. "See if she can describe them before we alter her memory. We have a statute breach." "Oh, and I'm open to suggestions as to what alternate memory we can give her." |

Fireworks, eh? Duel. "And then one of them grabbed you?" It was the only way she could have apparated. "Also, what was the specific park you were at? And what authority did you have to yell at them?" Quote:
"How bout a charity event and she got lost? We could lead her back to muggle London and tell her it was over and she should probably head home" |

'Well don't just stand there. Lady could use a cushion or something.' The young man unholstered his wand and transfigured a chair for the woman to sit down on. He moved towards her to offer help towards the chair and to make her comfortable before asking any questions. |

Which was exactly the principle she was going to follow, right now. "Get comfortable," she said firmly, using her wand to place a cushioning charm, where Dee was sitting. There. Now the dummy could be more comfortable, whether she wanted it or not. Then she flicked her wand, using Tergeo to clean up Dee's rather serious wound - she had a feeling the 'woman' was not fully aware of it, yet. That out of the way, Marina raised her head to look at the challenge host. "We need a healer," she said, politely. "Case of bone and tissue damage, I can't fully heal the injury. We also need -" She paused, slightly. "An Obliviator." Well, not really - Marina was a fine one, herself. But, given that this was a 'planned' set-up, she could not possibly go back, to where Dee had 'come from,' and alter memories, or anything. Besides, it's always best to leave such matters, to the people who are officially there, to handle it. Bottom line? The only option that her logic had left her with, right now, was to turn to the host. She turned back to Dee. "It would help, if you could give me the exact location where you apparated from, and describe the muggle that chased you. The Ministry could help you get back your jewels, miss." There would probably be a bunch of muggles that needed memory modifications, but the muggle Dee had mentioned was, of course, be the central character. "I know you claim not to require assistance from the Ministry, but the Ministry requires your assistance, Miss Zaster." This challenge - was tiring. |
