| Challenge Eight OOC: Unless otherwise indicated, your character's response and answers should be roleplayed and posted in this thread rather than PMed to the round host. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement
Hosted by: PharaohMan18 Syd steps up to the lab station at the far end of the work area, carefully pulling viles out of a box and setting them on the counter. Each one was a different color and seemingly had no label on it.
"Oh hey there. Welcome to Law Enforcement!" he chuckled as he set the last potion down. "You're going to be introduced to the work of high stress, high intensity rescues. We'll be doin' 3 different tasks so don't think you're gettin' outta here too easy."
Syd waited for the participant to settle in and smiled. He pointed with his wand to each one of the stations he had set up and squinted his eyes at them all. No magic was going on, but the feeling of unease was starting to grow.
"The first station will be the Search station. Y'alls job will be to scour this room for these," he said as he pulled a black orb out of the box he was holding. "This is an explosive... well.... Anyway, it's got three minutes before it explodes. I'm hidin' three of them here in the room and y'all gotta find them usin' the spell 'Bombus Locatus'. Think of it as a dowsin' rod kind'a spell. Though... 'ya only got three tries per bomb. If 'ya fail that, then 'ya gotta start over."
He set the slip of parchment down on the station table that had the spell written on it, "Now, you gotta think as well as cast. This ain't all about magic you know. You gotta think like a criminal, find a spot where no one else would look and then cast the spell to find the bombs." ooc: You will be provided the name of the location to unscramble. Submit your answers one by one via PM (RP solving it) once you think you've figured it out. Each wrong answer loses you a minute. Three wrong answers per explosive and you lose, and must start this station all over again. You will have one more chance at all 3 before you're forced to go to the next station.
"After that will be our second station, Unlocking. Y'all gotta wait for the room to be safe so you can't make a move until you have found the explosives. Once you have, yer job will be to save the buildin' itself. The way to get to the defusin' potions locked up in the center of the room. Y'all will have to unlock a series of locks on the chains holdin' them hostage in the case. I'll give y'all a list to use," he smirked, holding up the parchment with a list of spells written in red ink.
"See, I need 'ya to think critically. Just 'cuz 'ya got magic doesn't mean 'ya can solve any problem 'ya want," he chuckled. "So, grab the list and start. Don't go willy nilly though 'cuz once again 'ya got limited time...." ooc: You will be given a list of spells along with a list of lock shapes. PM your answer for each lock one by one (RP solving it). Once again, you get three chances per lock and if you fail in the three tries, you must start over. Fail twice and you're forced to go to the next station. "Last are is Defusin'. Y'all gotta stop the found bombs from goin' off once you've got the potion ingredients free. 'Ya gotta use the potions you just freed in the right combinations to create one that, when poured onto the bomb, will neutralize the magic that is on each one. Once you've completed this, yer all done with the test," Syd smirked.
"Now this ain't gonna let 'ya use any magic except what's in these potions. There are no labels or anyway to tell what these are so you'll have to rely on the clues provided. As I hope you've gathered from this, out in the world you can't always rely on your magic. You gotta think, think, and think some more, but at the same time if you think too long...." he motioned to the bombs. "Ready to have some fun?" ooc: You will be given a list of potions here as well as the potion required to deactivate it. As with the previous two stations, you'll have to PM your answers one by one, providing your answer in the form of an equation (i.e.: Yellow + Red = Orange). You get three tries per bomb and failing will once again force you to restart. Failing twice will force you on to the end of the challenge.

Benjamin entered the room and a party happened in his head. MLE CHALLENGE!!!!!! YESSS!!!! This was his challenge. He smiled at Syd as he entered the room hoping that he would be proud that his agent was the first to make it to the room.
After listening to the presentation, he nodded and immediately casted the spell that would point him in the right direction. "Bombus Locatus" he said with a flick of his wand. He immediately went for the Muggle Item cabinet. He opened it up and there was the bomb. Ben smiled to himself as he brought the bomb to one location of the room where he set it down.
"Bombus Locatus" he said for a second time. It brought him over to the Division Head desks. It wasn't under the first one... AHA! Bomb number two, under desk number... Two. He brought this bomb next to the other one.
One more time Ben casted the spell. "Bombus Locatus." It lead him to the interrogation room. And there it was, bright as day. He brought the bomb to the other two.
Now that Ben located the bombs, it was time to get the potions. He didn't get the first to spells immediately, but he got the last two right away. "Pyramidium Unlockus," then "Spherus Unlockus." He unlocked both of them, and then returned to the first two. Okay, well. A radius of a circus, or a radial line... Aha! "Radial Unlockus," he unlocked number two. He had no idea what to do with this one. So he just went for it. "Lunar... Unlockus?" Alas! He got it (?).
Now that he had the potions he brought them to the bombs. This was easy. He made up the first one, Red and Blue. He poured it on the first bomb and defused it. Number two... Black and White. He mixed them together and poured it on the second bomb. Defused!
Last one. He mixed Blue and yellow to make green. He poured that on the last bomb and defused it. Easy, Peasy. Ben thought. he looked up at Syd. "Tah Dah!"

Hogwarts RPG Name: Shouou Inagaki Seventh Year | Hold it! Title Invasion Syd watched as Ben scurried around the room. It was like watching a very determined squirrel scurry about the room, solving puzzles. He couldn't help but chuckle and watched as each task was met with flying colors. Of course he excpected nothing less of this young man. He had worked in the department after all. Maybe that was some kind of unfair advantage... nah!
"Good work, my boy. You've passed with flying colors. Now..." Syd said, walking over to the lab station where he set the box down. "You'll get your key... but after you take a rest. You look tired!" |

Ronan walked into the next room of the challenges wondering how many more until he got to the end. He sighed and waited for the man to talk, his brow furrowed as he listened to the man speak, realizing that it was a bit hard to understand him.
However, after getting the jist of what he was supposed to do, the young man unholstered his wand and pointed to around the room calling out, "Bombus Locatus."
Magically, he felt drawn to the Muggle Item cabinet where he found one of the bombs and brought it over to a designated resting spot for the items before holding out his wand and calling out once more, "Bombus Locatus."
This next spell seemed to pull Ronan towards the Division heads' desks and he walked over to them. Checking under the first desk, he realized that there was nothing there. His brow furrowed and the young man moved on to the second desk. "Aha!" Ronan said with an accomplished call and he brought the second bomb and brought it over next to the first one.
For a third time, Ronan cast the revealing spell, "Bombus Locatus." This time, it pulled him towards what appeared to be an interrogation room where he found the bomb, a satisfied grin on his face as he brought it over to the other two bombs.
Now on to the locks.
Luckily enough, Ronan was able to get all the locks correctly the first time. He pointed to each lock in turn and called out the four that were the right ones. “Radial Unlockus!”
“Lunar Unlockus!”
“Pyramidium Unlockus!”
“Spherus Unlockus!”
The young man called out each of the spells in turn to unlock the potions from the casings. Ronan picks up the potions and brings them over to the bombs so that he can look to diffuse them.
Looking down at the clues, Ronan began to think up what colors looked like royalty. ‘Blue and Red perhaps?’ he questioned himself and then poured the mixed potions together and the bomb diffused. The young man grinned to himself and continued on his work.
The second note meant something about the city and how it might not be the best color. Walking around in the pitch dark was never a good idea. Perhaps that would work best, and black is usually paired with white. Ronan poured the two potions together and watched as the second bomb diffused.
Finally, the last note. Spring equals green. Looking down at the colors, Ronan frowned not seeing green and realizing that he would have to combine two potions to make the color he wanted. Picking up the blue and yellow potions, he poured them on the third bomb and watched as it diffused.
Looking over to the authoritative figure of this challenge Ronan called out, “Sir, I believe that I have completed the challenge.” Hopefully it would be enough for him to be able to move on to the next challenge.

That last challenge had actually been pretty easy. Only, now she was stuck in a smart navy skirt, and a blazer with gilded buttons, to match. Marina shrugged it off, and held it over one arm, as she listened to Mr. Wordsmith. This challenge sounded tough, but nice.
Educative, too.
Well, now to get to work. Marina started off with "Bombus Locatus!" The spell led her to a cabinet - the Muggle Item Cabinet, to be more precise - where she was able to find a bomb. Eyeing it rather apprehensively, she raised her wand again, and gave the spell another shot. "Bombus Locatus!" She was led, this time, to the desk of a division head. But, surprise, surprise, it had nothing on it.
Waittt! Marina figured out the bomb was UNDER the desk, and retrieved it. Then she cast "Bombus Locatus!" a last time, was led to a certain room, and retrieved the last bomb from there.
Now for the locks.
Marina hurried over to the second station, because time was ticking down, and she really did not want any of the bombs to explode. Not that she thought they would cause any serious damage - well, she HOPED they would not. But she was not going to give them a chance, to show exactly what they could do! Really, that wouldn't be nice.
The second lock had a line running down its centre. Like an incision. Like a spoke. That told Marina all she needed to know, really. At least, she hoped so. Pointing her wand at the lock, she executed the correct spell. Then she looked at the third lock - golden, those straight lines and, above all, the shape of the keyhole. That could have been meant to mislead. The Division Head thought for a second, then executed a spell.
The last lock was easy, after which Marina focused her attention, on the very first one. She had managed to narrow down her list of possible, unlocking spells, by the process of elimination, but this was one was pretty tough. In the end, she settled on a spell, and cast it. If it went well, it would - if it did not, it would not.
She was glad to see the spells had worked. The case of potions now free - she could finally open it - Marina quickly looked down at the bombs. The first note was easy to comprehend, and she reached for the Red and Blue potions and, having mixed them, poured the new brew right on top of the first bomb, which was diffused, pretty much at once.
The next bomb, was a bit harder. The colour of the city? The colours of many of the cities she had known, would not be bad for the sky. But she decided it might mean the average stereotype - because most cities, these days, really were all pollution - and, once more, mixed two certain potions. Then she poured the new mixture the two resulted in, on to the second bomb, which too was diffused. Thank God, really.
The last clue was, once again, pretty easy. Marina mixed the Blue and Yellow potions, and the last bomb had soon been diffused. Free, she looked at Mr. Wordsmith, to see if she had done alright.

Ronan grinned as he announced that he was going to be moving on. "Thank you very much. I don't think it was too easy. It was all so thrilling really." the young man said with an excited expressioin to the man before him.
Deciding to take the man's advice, Ronan went and took a seat, resting for a bit until he was allowed to make his way along to the next challenge.

"Maybe I made things too easy, eh?" "Lemonade would be nice, thank you." Marina had taken off her coat, again. The weather was not exactly cold, and she wished she could change back into her robes. But she guessed she could not. Lemonade, though, sounded like an excellent idea - she could do with some.
"Not really." She gave Mr. Wordsmith a smile. "I think it helps if one has good, analytical skills. But I know it was tough to figure out the locks." Especially lock number one. |

Ben realized Syd was stalling for something... Maybe the next one was the final challenge and more people needed to complete this one. When the people solved the challenge after Ben, he got a little annoyed. He felt that they copied him... or not... Maybe Ben was just paranoid. But Ben wasn't going to drink Lemonade, must be professional.
"No thank you, Syd," he said to him with a smile. he did however take a seat. He looked at the other people who finished and smiled. "You guys have been great in these challenges, you know?"

He got himself a glass of lemonade and waited for others to come in and to get the official word on the keys. He leaned against the lab station and sipped, the ice clinking in his glass. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Armand Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Damien Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year | My posting is a little backwards, but I wanted to claim my spot. Slytherin by heart Armand pulled the tie from his hair and tucked it away as he entered the room. This was proving to be a far more interesting challenge. With a flick of his wrist, his wand was in hand. Following the instructions, he cast. "Bombus Locatus." Getting a pull towards a cabinet, he made his way over and pulled it open. There was one. With that, he cast again. "Bombus Locatus." Once again there was an interesting pull... towards some desks. Interesting. He looked around them a moment, then kneeled and looked under. An odd feat for him. Ah... there was the next one. Then, of course, there was the last. Another cast and there was another tug... He followed it to a door and made his way inside. In the room was the next bomb. Perfect.
The next tasks had him figuring some locks. Which apparently wouldn't be opened with a simple alohamora. Of course, that would be too simple. He took some time to examine the first lock. He compared all of the spells to it, thinking. The only one he could come up with... "Lunar Unlockus." After all, it did look somewhat like a moon orbiting a planet. He'd spent enough time in the planet room that most things did, really. However, it gave him some satisfaction as it unlocked. He mentally crossed that one off the list and moved on to the next one.
This one was of some interest, and the triangular shape threw him off momentarily. He was about to cast when he rethought the matter. No, it should be based on the key, not the lock, right? He eyed the line down the center. Halved? Diameter? ... Radius. "Radial Unlockus." Click. Good. Two down.
He set that one aside and looked at the next. Square with a triangle... With a shrug, he tried the only one that seemed to make sense. "Pyramidium Unlockus." Unlocked. Great. And last... A lot of... circles. Once again, he went with the only one that made sense. At least in his mind. "Spherus Unlockus." With that one unlocked, he moved on.
"The color of royalty..." he murmured as he looked at the note on the bomb. What once was used was purple, as he recalled. He woud die before he wore it... or he might do it on a dare, but he'd rather people didn't know that. However, it was the most expensive dye at one time, which left it open only to royalty, or nobles in some places. Carefully mixing the red and blue potions, he got a rather royal shade of purple and used it to defuse the bomb. One down.
The next... Color of the city, though not the best color for the sky. He wasn't often in the city. He thought back to images he had seen, including many of muggle cities that Slade had shown him. Everything was rather... gray. Which would make sense. Gray was also the color of storm clouds, which would not be pleasant. Taking the black and white, he created a rather light shade of gray, which reminded him of both. With it, the bomb was defused, and he was able to move on to the next.
Spring... what was the color of spring? Of all things, he should have known this. Though the first thing that came to mind was pastels, and numerous delicate flowers which appeared in spring, contrasting the heartier ones in the summer. There was one thing, however. Spring was the time of new growth, as opposed to the maturing growth of summer. Most of which... was green. Well, if it didn't work, he would try pink next. Taking the yellow and blue potions, he mixed a bright green, reminiscient of his garden in early spring, before the blossoms. With the last bomb defused, he turned to their host, awaiting confirmation.

| Raspberry Jam | #ChocolateFrogFamous | Ultimate Fangirl Lucia rushed towards the next room, very aware that she was running out of time for these challenges. There couldn't be too many left could there? Upon entering, she sighed quietly. This challenge sounded very complicated. She headed over to the first station and paused for a moment. Hmm. "Bombus Locatus!" She said, and then noticed a Muggle Item Cabinet and she felt that it would be a very sufficiant place to look. As she approached it, she hesitated for a moment then opened it - and to her relief, found the first bomb.
"Bobmus Locatus!" Lucia said again, feeling herself being drawn to the Division Head's desks. Feeling confident, she walked towards it and began to search for the bomb. 'Where is it?!' She was feeling frantic but suddenly found it in a hidden place underneath. Phew. There was the second bomb found!
Saying "Bobmus Locatus!" for a third time, Lucia looked towards the Interrigation Room having the feeling that the final bomb would be placed in there. She walked inside and retrieved it easily. Wow, all three bombs. Done.
Now for the locks. And it wouldn't be easy to do this but Lucia was feeling confident today. All of this passing through to the next challenges was proving that she could infact do it. She approached the second station and studied the first lock. It was heavy and a squared shape. Hmm, she could only think of one possible spell that could work. "Radial Unlockus!" She said with her wand pointing at the lock, and success! It unlocked itself.
The second one was easy. Well...she thought it would be. "Lunar Unlockus!" It unlocked itself just how Lucia had expected it to, and she quickly moved onto the third. A trickier one. Taking a stab, she said "Pyramidium Unlockus!" It seemed like one of the few that could actually work and to her joy, it did. The final lock was a circular shape, and as she looked at it more, it became clear. "Spherus Unlockus!" She exclaimed, watching it unlock. That was an easy one too.
Knowing that she was running out of time, Lucia rushed towards the final station. She read the clue for the first one. Royal colours... well, Red and Blue would make sense then? She poured it into the potion and squinted her eyes as she expected a result. Ohhh, it had worked properly. Thank goodness. Right, the second... something to do with a city and the sky or something. Going on her instinct, she mixed Black and White together.
After the second bomb had successfully diffused itself, she moved on to the next one. Spring colours, well that was pretty simple then. She mixed Blue and Yellow together which turned into a shade of green. Perfect, it had diffused too.
With that, Lucia looked up with a cheerful expression on her face. Did she just complete the challenge then? She hoped so anyway.
