Default The Stands

Banner credit: Suziella

Grab a seat to watch over your little brother or sister’s first flying lesson, admire that cute flyer doing loops or sit down to enjoy the scenery. Whichever the reason may be, the Stands provides the best view as it completely surrounds the Pitch. If you happen to attend a Quidditch match, the Stands are brightly decorated in the colors of the Houses playing on the Pitch.

Beware of flying objects though, as the Stands are not protected from various bludgers (or flyers) heading your way. Please pick up after yourself and be kind to the flyers on the Pitch or the flying instructor may just accidently assign you a seat in the far back next time.

Though Regina had mostly enjoyed being on the Quidditch team last term (even if she was only a reserve), she felt, for a lot of reasons, that it was probably best she didn't tryout for it this term. There were so many other things on her plate, and she had a strict schedule she'd laid out for herself, and Quidditch just didn't really fit in. It wasn't something she was super passionate about anyway - not that any sports were - and she didn't want to attempt to take a spot from someone who'd enjoy it far more.

But just because she didn't want to participate in the actual tryouts didn't mean she wasn't curious to see how this one would go. Especially since they had a new captain, Bel, so Regina was interested in seeing how different the tryout might be. Assuming there weren't strict rules about them being done a certain way? But it'd still be fun to see who from last term would be continuing and if any new people would attend to.

Aaand...she seemed to be one of the first in the stands for this? Interesting. And it looked like there was a big obstacle course down there on the pitch. Also interesting.

Thankfully she had brought a snack in case she was sitting alone while watching. She pulled a packet of licorice wands out of her bag and took one out as she sat back and observed her fellow Hufflepuffs.

Eria was not at all pleased this morning. She could have been studying...could have been practicing hexes...could have been sleeping or reading...but no. Oh no. Its not what she was doing was it? Nope, not at all. Here she was, wandering up the bloody stands for sports which was of course her favorite thing in the bloody world....NOT. She hated sports...with the fiery passion of ten thousand suns she HATED SPORTS of any and all kinds. Yet here she bloody was, marching slowly and begrudgingly up the bloody stairs. Her face was stoic with a slight scowl as she picked a row.

Eww, she thought she'd managed to find a spot with no one...but there was a girl there. Fine, she was done with the bloody stairs. Some other idiot would just invade her space if she picked somewhere else. One of the most annoying things about humans was that they tended to try to group together. She never understood why people just had to join other people. Every time she sat alone someone tried to "be nice" to her and come invade her space and talk and break her silence. Ugh. Whatever.

She silently sat as far away from the girl as she possibly could. Maybe, just maybe, she could get through this try out thing in silence. Honestly, why DID she agree to this? She didn't owe the baby snake any favors whatsoever. She came mostly for entertainment value and to find sports fans to avoid right? Seriously, she was not admitting to herself that it may have been because she secretely cared about Beth. Nope. That wasn't even a thing.

Well on the upside...Beth had gotten her protein. Okay, accidental entomophagy definitely just made this thing a dozen times better.

Quinn had, of course, promised Beth she'd come and watch her tryouts. And she was, mostly because Quinn had worded the agreement in a way that made free to decline watching actual matches. And honestly, the tryouts were a better option, as the stands wouldn't be nearly as full they would be when the matches started up.

So here Quinn was, climbing the steps to watch Slytherin tryouts, when she hadn't even been bothered to learn when her own house was having theirs, if they hadn't had them already.

When she finally reached the stands, she realized she was late. Beth was already trying out for seeker, catching...marshmallows? Odd.

Quinn glanced around trying to locate a section of seating away from anyone else, but it seemed everyone had spread out just enough to make that unlikely. Then she spotted the next best thing. If she couldn't have a spot far enough from anyone else they couldn't talk to her, then she could seat herself next to someone she knew wouldn't talk her ear off. And someone that if they did decide to talk to her, she honestly wouldn't mind.

She made her way over to Eria and sat down, leaving a whole person worth of space between them. Eria was someone Quinn liked, and respected and even, though she'd probably not admit it, looked up to, but that didn't mean Quinn wanted to be pressed together while sitting. Space was a wonderful thing, and something suggested to Quinn that Eria would agree with that.

She looked over to the older Snake, and flashed her a brief, closed mouthed smile, dimples and all, as a way of greeting, then turned to watch Beth.

Eria had been somewhat preoccupied with watching Beth as she FELT a person walking closer. She thought she'd escaped anyone invading her personal bubble, but she happened to be emphatically wrong.

However, while contemplating what form of "get away from me I haven't had my tea" face to give this person, she realized out of her periphrals that this was one of the few people she could tolerate. So, when she turned to look at the younger girl, her face was simply tired and stoic.

Smart girl, leaving a space between them...this she could actually tolerate. She caught the brief unobtrusive smile and...despite herself and lack of tea, actually flashed a fleeting close-lipped smile herself.

So far, really the only first years she let be around her had been Beth and now Quinn. She wouldn't admit that she liked them and thought they'd survive until graduation...she may or may not have casually been providing resources to ensure the young ones' survival. Regardless, Quinn could stay beside her without threat or begrudging venom and potential retribution.

Actually if anyone was to sit next to her in a public space, she might prefer Quinn. Quinn didn't break comforting silence with some desperate need to fill it, so she could feel like she existed and mattered like most pathetic fools. The girl was young, but she actually got it and stood to go far in older brunette's not so humble opinion.

Wordlessly, the lanky 5th year pulled hard candy out of her satchel and offered the open bag to Quinn, after taking a watermelon flavoured piece for herself.

Greeting returned through a flash of a smile from Eria, Quinn turned back to watch Beth, silently. She wasn't one to cheer verbally, and Beth knew this. Her being here was basically cheering. Still, Quinn might clap if it was warranted, such as if Beth got the spot as seeker.

She also had her infinity book with her for when anyone else began their trial run. Rereading Alice's adventures in Wonderland was more desirable than watching people who weren't her friend trying out.

Movement caught her attention in her periphery, something moving torward her, in fact. She turned to look. Eria was holding a bag of something...of candy out for her. Quinn regarded Eria for a very brief moment, a quick reassessment, and then took an offered candy from the bag. "Thanks."

Quinn unwrapped the piece and put it in her mouth without checking the flavour. This was a gesture, she could sense that clear enough. An acknowledgement perhaps, or proclaimation, of unspoken friendship? Or maybe just a way of saying 'you're alright kid.' It didn't go unnoticed, and her taking the candy was equally a gesture. An acceptance of whatever spirit it was offered. Flavour didn't matter for that.

The truth of the matter was, Quinn did look up to Eria, a lot. It was different than how Beth looked up to her. It wasn't hard to see that there were distinct similarities between the young Eagle and the older Snake. Eria was perhaps the first role model Quinn could really look up to, because she felt like the first role model that got who Quinn was, because she was similar. And the offering of candy felt like acceptance.

It was orange, by the way. The flavour.

After deciding to include more laps, Skylar actually decided to do something different on her activity training that morning when she headed out to the quidditch pitch prepared to attempt to increase to twenty-five laps in the same amount of time as she'd done twenty. But instead of going straight out to the green pitch, she headed to the stands instead. It was a place she'd only really sat in when her team wasn't playing. And before she made the under 17 when she watched Noah play. Or this year, in the match against Ravenclaw. But importantly, it had self-made obstacles. There were stairs and narrow bleachers to weave through.

Carefully, Skylar sprinted up the stairs and then worked her way through the bench ... and hopped down one step .... and back through to the other side and down ... and through the side ... continuing all the way bottom and when she reached the bottom she sprinted back to the top.

She continued to make her way around the stands, carefully sprinting to the up of the set of stairs and using the bleachers to weave down with. It was halfway way around when she glanced at her watch and realized she'd spent forty minutes already.

Ah time to shower and head to class.
