The normal greenish glow of the dungeons seem to glow a bit brighter today as if it was reflecting some of the sunlight from outside somehow. The classroom is a comfortable even for the September weather. The workstations are sat up in their normal way four people per table, not that it was relevant to the lesson today. Labs coats, were hanging right as you walk in, if you wanted one they were there. On workstation was a parchment, quill, and two vitals one has a clear liquid and the other has a white sandy dust substance in the other. They will find out what was in them soon enough.
Professor Canterbury had the doors wide open. Standing near the door slipped on her own lab coat and walked around the classroom. Checking to see it was all ready to go and that each spot had what was needed for the lesson. She moved back behind her desk and to took a seat as she waited for the students to come in. Come right on in and take a seat the lesson be being getting started
OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Professor Canterbury’s rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. Please remember this IC this is not the first lesson of the term. Class will continue in a little over 24 hours time (May 6 around 9am EST) Thanks for coming! Class has officially started so please keep the chatting to a minimum. If you haven't posted your charrie in here and want to, please feel free to jump right in and pretend as though they've been here the entire time.

With another glance at the ingredients list, Olivia turned her focus back to the cauldron to see the water was boiling. Right. Time to get this potion started. She added 5 juniper berries to the mixture and then slipped on her gloves so that she wouldn't hurt herself when handling the Shrivelfig. Taking a knife, she carefully cut the Shrivelfig in half and then took the half and squeezed the juice out of it. Once the juice was all gone, she dropped it into the cauldron. Noticing that the liquid had turned a light purple colour. Interesting. Next, Olivia picked up a spoon and stirred the liquid ten times counterclockwise. Then five times clockwise. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. With every stir, the concoction was becoming a deeper and deeper shade of purple.
Then she took her spoon out of the cauldron and rest it on the side to see what her next step was. Cherries. Scooping up six cherries, she carefully plopped them into the mixture along with the silver coloured glitter. Olivia turned off the heat and let the mixture sit for a few moments. Then she turned her attention to the moth wings. Glancing at her notebook, she checked the next step. Ugh. Dipping two of them into the tincture of Demigusise. That sounded wonderful. She quickly dipped the moth wings in, with one in each hand, and then plopped them into the cauldron. Drying off her hands on a towel nearby, she then grabbed a vial of pearl dust. Alright. When she added this to the mixture, then a reaction would ensue. This was the exciting moment. What would happen? Would it turn foamy and burst like elephant toothpaste? She hoped not.... The Professor certainly wouldn't appreciate that and Olivia would probably have to spend the whole rest of the day scrubbing down the potions classroom.
Adding the pearl dust to the mixture, Olivia took a step back (so that her head wasn't over the cauldron) and watched as the mixture began burning. Okay. That was right. Now she would just have to wait for the reaction to burn out.

As she hadn’t sprinkled the dust on her paper, Cassie did as she was instructed. The dust reacting with the tincture-written note on the parchment and sparking just like the professor’s work had done. Chemical reaction indeed. Too fascinated by the reaction, the Ravenclaw merely listened to some of her classmates answer on the witnessed idea. It fit with something her father had shown her with one or two of his experimental works, though admittedly it was from more on the charms side than entirely potions related.
As for the potion, Cass was attentive, taking notes as the professor spoke up once more filling them in on its particular qualities. One hour, perhaps two doses and hours, unless using demiguise hair…silvery-white color if brewed correctly…can be used as invisible ink. All good things and added into her notes upon the subject matter, followed up with the list of ingredients and the potion’s recipe that were soon added to the board. And away they went to brewing.
“Scourgify,” she cast first and foremost on her cauldron to insure it was absolutely clean. Then “Aquamenti” to begin filling it with water and “finite” to end it half-way. The fifth year then placed it on her burner and set the heat to get it boiling.

Olly delicately picked up one moth wing and dipped it in the demiguise tincture before dropping it in his cauldron. He then repeated the action for a second one. When both had been added he took the pearl dust and dumped that in as well. He watched as the two ingredients reacted to each other, and the burning it was now causing on the surface of the potion. It looked...really cool. Why didn't all potions do something cool like that? Most of them were pretty boring. Add ingredient, stir, add, stir. Burning? That was cool. When the reaction had finished he added another wing.
He picked up the stir stick again and stirred the potion five times clockwise, and then ten times in the opposite direction. It was the exact opposite of what he had had to do earlier, if he was remembering correctly. That was kind of cool. What about the number of stirs was important? And what caused this potion to mirror itself? Interesting questions but ones that he mused over silently instead of asking aloud. He might look in some books later, if he remembered and if he actually cared enough.
After stirring, he added the last wing to the potion. That was the last ingredient. All that was left was the...cheese cloth, which was weird. Olly draped it over his cauldron and stared at it for a few moments before nodding. Alright, he was done then. Well he was almost done. The cheese cloth would stay for five minutes and then when he removed it he would be officially done. Olly glanced over at Noelle's station to see how she was doing.
The breathing thing was definitely working, and by this point even the shuddery crying breaths had calmed right down so he was believing like normal again. Then, in spite of himself, he let out the smallest little giggle at what the Slytherin girl said to him, about being about to fall asleep. Turned out, once he managed a smile, he started to feel a million times more better actually.
To the question, Abey gave a nod, and looked back towards where he had been situated before the whole of EVERYTHING happened. "Uh huh. I'm sat with-..." But he broke off, because, as he finally looked back towards his desk, he caught sight of the animated origami butterfly, fluttering around the space he had been sitting at. It took him by surprise, but more than that, he found himself extra curious about it. So curious he almost forgot he was mid-sentence. Almost. "... uh... with Théo and Emmeline." He used his other hand to point them out, in case she didn't know who they were. "The desk next to Junia's." That part was very important.
And then, because he suddenly felt BAD because he didn't even know the girl's name properly but she knew his and she'd been so nice, and he wanted to THANK her and stuff... "Um... what's your name?"Sorrysorrysorrysorrysorry.

It needed to be cleaned because dust was a very real factor in these musty dungeons.
...Actually, she was going to collect ingredients before doing anything to the cauldron. Just so she wouldn't need to leave her workstation after getting started. Man, if Liv were feeling better, the fact that she'd get to pour glitter into a potion would've brightened her entire life. Alas... Cheese cloth. More of this business. Oh, Professor Newton, you were being missed.
After grabbing all the things one would need for an invisibility potion (as per Professor Canterbury's recipe), Olivia slowly retreated back to her workstation; laying all the things out for inspection. Most of the ingredients didn't require much preparation, save for the shrivelfig and two of the moth wings, but she supposed the moth wings needed to be dipped just before getting added. The shrivelfig was probably safe to cut now, though. Pulling one of the knives from her potions kit, the blonde laid a scourgify spell on it before slicing the shrivelfig down the center.... Er, was sharing it with a neighbor required? ....
Um.
"Does anyone need the other half of my shrivelfig?"
Oh, her new Lion!baby...and a ickle Slytherin baby. "Would either of you like the other half of my shrivelfig?.... Stasya, would you like to work with me?" For helping purposes. Liv didn't want her to feel like she needed to figure this entire thing out on her own. There were plenty of her older peers around to ensure success.
That went for both younger kids, actually. "We could all work together, if you'd like." Yes, let her focus on helping others so she wasn't thinking about her own ickly feelings.
Whilst waiting for a response, Olivia went ahead and Scourgified! her cauldron, casting Aguamenti! just after. Halfway... as was per the norm.

Given all her puzzlement over the fire spell, plus the notes, Stasya had taken a second to realize that she’d forgotten to collect the other ingredients she actually was going to need for the potion. Just in case her tablemates didn’t want to share, or if they used everything they’d gotten. She wasn’t going to hold a grudge against them for it, since it was her own fault for not having collected the stuff before. Except, she did have to wait for her water to boil, so she used that time to go and collect her ingredients, aside from the tincture and pearl dust she still had at her station. She was just going toned to continue to pretend that there weren’t moth wings as part of the ingredients, as she returned to her cauldron to see her water boiling.
Time to add the berries, which was easy enough. So far it was just like cooking. She could do that, although usually she was just helping. Not doing it all by herself, even though she hadn’t forgotten the Slytherin who had helped her with the fire spell. But all he’d offered was to help her extinguish it later if she needed it, plus, as she looked over at him once, he looked like he was way further along than she was. She could do this. She knew that.
Well, except for the shrivelfig part, and her head had gone up when she heard Liv. “Can I have it?,” she asked, just checking. And she wasn’t against working together either. It wasn’t like she was really that far into it all yet.

Etta checked the list once again before adding another moth wing.. okay, done. Also, the potion didn't smell all that nice ( obviously because of the moth wings ) .. but it did look very glittery. Hm. But she had no intention of drinking it anyway, a potion that had moth wings in it. Like, no. Anyway, moving on.
Next, she slowly and carefully stirred the potion five times counter clockwise and ten times clockwise, making sure she didn't splash the liquid on herself or anywhere outside the cauldron, really. She peeked at the potion once again, watching the contents slowly turn to a silvery-ish colour. She gave a small sigh of relief, glad that she hadn't messed it up in any way.
Another moth wing? Okay, well. She added it to the potion too. All she had to do now was --- right. She picked up the cheesecloth and carefully placed it over the hot cauldron. Time to wait now.
Did he look that visibly overwhelmed? Probably because he felt it.. Discussing things and pictures was one thing.. Brewing a full on potion like this...All the instructions at once.. Oliver was trying to focus on the first step first but it felt... Foreign. But he was thankful for Katy and the fact that she knew him enough to know he felt like a mess right now. "Thank you.." Really.. she was the best.
He took a deep breath and did his best to center himself. He was a little scared of making a mistake and looking stupid. But he remembered that making mistakes was okay. He needed to learn, even if that meant failing. "Aguamenti" He did his best to stop the water at the halfway point.. It might have been a little less than.. But nevertheless he made sure it got to a boil.
Now for the Juniper Berries.. The board just said the berries but didn't say how many. So he followed Katy's lead and put them all in cause he assumed that's what it meant and that she knew what she was doing here. Gloves seemed like a waste of time when it came to cutting the shrivelfig. So he just went ahead and cut that in half, squeezing out the juice and looking between Katy's and his. "Does that look purple to you?"
Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee
Moving along now, yup. Katy eyed Oliver briefly to make sure that he wasn't getting behind before turning her attention back to her cauldron. Stir stick, freshly cleansed, went into the pale purple solution, and then Katy had to stir. And count. It was always a burden to keep track through multiple iterations of stirring, and she counted quietly under her breath to keep track over the minor din around her.
Ten counter clockwise. Five clockwise. "... three, four, five..." She held her breath until the potion settled, noting that it was now a dark purple. Or so it seemed, but again, hard to gauge color through pewter. Into the cauldron went cherries, followed by the glitter, although Katy paused while she considered that ingredient again. Really? Glitter?
"It's purple. Tell me you're fine, Lupin, and I'll never bother you again," Katy whispered to her lab partner as she lowered the heat under her cauldron. He was fine. Probably was. She dropped the leaves into her cauldron before peeking at him again. Just in case. "How about you watch me do the moth wing bit, just in case? It's a little complicated." To show him, she dipped the first two wings into the tincture, shook off any excess, and dropped them into the cauldron.
Right, so the shrivlefig was added which meant, what? Samantha looked back up at the board. Stirring! She could do that, it wasn't that hard. Carefully, she stirred her potion once, twice, ten times in a counter clockwise motion, and then five times in the other direction. Well, it still looked purple. That was good. After the step was completed, she glanced around the room at all the commotion going on. Oddly enough, this was more entertaining than the kid getting sick earlier, and also a lot dumber. Seriously, you are a fifth year get your stupid act together.
Shaking her head, she looked back at the board. She didn't have time for that, she needed to concentrate on getting this right. The next bit looked fairly easy though. Seriously, how hard could it be to just add a few ingredients. So first the Gryffindor girl added the five cherries, pits and all because the directions didn't say anything about removing them, and the she poured in two whole scoops of silver glitter, accidentally getting some of it on the table. Trying to wipe it off, she groaned as it stuck to her hand, and then her robes as she tried wiping them there. See, this is why she hated this stuff, even if it was pretty sometimes, like now, sparkling in her brewing potion.
Extinguishing the flame, she added the leaves. Five of them, dried, from fall. That was oddly specific, and a really weird ingredient. Actually, most of them were. Like the next ingredient, moth wings. Wouldn't, well, the wings of a lacewing fly be better for invisibility? And seriously, what on earth was with the cherries? But anyways, what did she know? She wasn't a genius potioneer or anything. She needed to get back on track, and that meant very carefully dipping two of the moth wings into the tincture before dropping them into her cooling potion.

After finishing with the water, and lighting a small fire beneath her own cauldron, Olivia counted out the ingredients she'd need for the first few steps. FIVE juniper berries. ONE HALF of the shrivelfig. SIX cherries.... She hadn't been wearing protective gloves before, but slipped them on now, in order to hand the other half of her shrivelfig over. Stasya was a bit ahead of her with the potion, but Liv was keeping an eye on her, all the same.
Half a shrivelfig for you, little missus! ......"Don't forget to squeeze the juice out." She assumed Stasya could read that in the Professor's notes, but she felt better pointing it out, anyway. Just in case there was an oversight. In her First Year, Liv had been too overeager to properly read out instructions. Soooo, you know, it wasn't a stretch of the imagination that others might struggle with the same issue.
Anyway....once her water began to boil, the Gryffindor quickly lowered the flame, adding five juniper berries in the next instant. You know, Juniper was one of her favorite names. There was a little Ravenclaw girl named Juniper... A+ naming game, really... Ahem, as she'd instructed Stasya to do, Olivia lifted her half of the shrivelfig and juiced it over the cauldron, before dropping the remains down into her brew.
She was doing okay thus far....right? No mistakes or missteps? Praised be. The color was on point; a lovely lilac color. Light purple, whatever... This Gryffindor was That Girl™️. She knew proper names for colors and what have you. When you lived that Fashion life, it was bound to happen.
Stirring next... Oh."Does it matter what we used to stir? Wooden spoon? Crystal stirring rod?" With the define ingredients, Liv was going to assume it wouldn't matter too much, considering none of these materials were corrosive. Cherries could be mildly acidic, but... They wouldn't be enough to bother anything. Eh, a particular stirring rod hadn't been listed, so she was just going to use her preferred crystal one.

It hadn’t taken too long to get an answer to her question, as Liv had passed her other half of the shrivelfig over to her, and Stasya had given her a smile in response. She was definitely grateful for the help, and she nodded in response to the reminder. “I won’t!” Especially since she had been too distracted by Noelle asking about purple potions along with wondering about the shrivelfig. She’d looked at her notes really quickly before she slid protective gloves onto her hands and held her newly-acquired half a shrivelfig over her cauldron and squeezed it as hard as she could before all she had left in her hand was a mostly drained shrivelfig skin. Which she then carefully dropped into the mixture in her cauldron, wondering if it was going to dissolve or if they had to strain all the berries and everything else out later on.
It was a good question, but she was trying to focus on her potion, which, as she peered over the edge to look at it, it looked light purple to her. Figuring between the two people who had already offered help, anything she missed might be caught. Either way, it was time to stir, so she used the Scourgify spell to clean a stirrer before slipping it into her cauldron and beginning to stir. Ten times opposite the way a clock moved, then five in the opposite direction. Checking the potion again, she was proud of herself when it was definitely a darker purple than it had been. So time to move on.
Did they add all the cherries at once or one at a time? That was another question she had, but it made more sense to her to do it one at a time. One, two, three, four, five, six. Now it was time for the glitter, which she measured out as carefully as she could until two scoops were in her potion. Maybe some of it had gone elsewhere, like in her hair and over her gloves, but it was just glitter. Oh, and now it was time to get rid of the fire. At least she knew Finite, even if she hadn’t tried it. The fire went out either way, maybe with a bit of blowing on it too.

"Incendio." Now to wait for it to come to a boil. In the meantime, her hand rose into the air. "May I have another vial of demiguise tincture, Professor? This one might have my saliva in it and I don't wanna have the results messed up."
Ciara was walking around watching everyone as the got to work. [b]”Yes, Miss Cambridge you can.” She smiled so amused by the young lady’s concern for of messing up her results. Which wasn’t a likely concern but better safe than sorry. That was what she always said. ”There is one of my desk you may get that one.”

She looked at the time to check and see how much time they had left. ”Everyone you have twenty minutes left to complete the potion. Once you have finished it, get a vial and put a sample in it. Once the five minutes were up, Kyle removed the cheesecloth and peered at the potion. It seemed to be about right. He took three vials, carefully filling each of them. One for the teacher, one for himself, and one for Jace. Of course, he'd have to get the okay on his potion before he and Jace could try it out, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue. As far as he could tell, he brewed it perfectly. He put a label on one of the vials, and put the two others in his bag. Pulling out his quill once more, he wrote his name and house on the vial, then went over and set it on the desk.
"Professor Canterbury, can you check my potion please? I'd really like to try it out with a friend later on. Maybe play invisible tag or something. You know, like Marco Polo without the pool."
Alright, now came the fun part, although rereading the directions, she didn't think it would actually that exciting. Since the only tincture of demiguise in the potion was the small amount that had been on the moth wings, there probably wasn't enough to make that much of a reaction. Anyways, standing back slightly she poured in the whole vial of pearl dust, and let it burn down
Adding her third moth wing, the lioness proceeded to give the potion five counterclockwise stirs, and then reversing for ten more. That was looking alright, wasn't it? She thought so, but it was kind of hard to tell. But she dropped her last moth wing in, and placed the cheese cloth over it to wait, and after five minutes, that would be it. She'd either have an invisibility potion, or a gross paste. When the moment of truth finally arrived, she looked down in her cauldron. Would this really turn her invisible?
Still quite wet Melbourne pointed her wand under her cauldron ”Incendio” the flames shot under her Cauldron lighting it and watching as the cauldron began to boil when she heard the laughter. Why was someone laughing? She asked as she looked over to Kirk and chuckled.
”Ah…yeah, I felt like I needed to take a shower” she grinned and looked up at her Ravenclaw friend. It was really quite hilarious how sopping she was with the water dripping down her hair and her face.
Looking up at him she couldn’t help but grin, ”oh…the shrivelfig?” she asked as she looked over at the fruit that Kirk was offering her, ”oh…yeah sure, I was about to cut mine but this makes things easier…” pausing she looked over to Kirk and grinned, ”so…do you think they’re possibly edible?” she asked as her cauldron began to come to a boil.

Oliver stirred 10 times counter clockwise and counted backwards from ten. "Three...Two..One." Then it was time to stir clockwise. "Five.. Four.. Three.. Two.. One" He added in the cherries and then the glitter? Glitter seemed like an odd thing to help you be invisible but clearly he knew nothing anyway.
He turned back to Katy. "I think i'm doing okay.. " He turned off his heat as well on his cauldron and added the leaves carefully so as not to create a splash. "Yeah, thanks." She knew if it was something she wasn't good at that he was that he'd help her.. Though he didn't know a subject he was great at that she couldn't hold her own on.
The Slytherin payed close attention to what Katy was doing and how she was doing it. He carefully followed, dipping the wings and shaking off the extra tincture. His were sloppier for sure but they were added into the potion regardless.

Pleased with the Professor's expedient response, Olivia removed the crystal stirring rod from her felt holder; voicing her appreciate. Also, for her notes, she quickly jotted that tidbit down in the margins, just so the question didn't arise again.... And she could be forgetful, so that was very much a possibility.
Right.... TEN times COUNTERclockwise and FIVE times CLOCKWISE... Oh, buddy, Liv sometimes flubbed this up, but with a touch of sound reasoning (and watching her peers.... shhh), she thought she'd worked out which was which. Geezus. Face of a clock... Okay, OKAY. Scourgifying the crystal stirring rod, she dipped it down into the concoction, slowly moving it in the appropriate directions. Ten times one way, and then an additional five in the other. Once it set into a gorgeous eggplant color, her fears were alleviated. Everything looked right, if the instructions were on par.
Next... cherries. Six of them. Grinning at her small Gryffindor friend, who'd decided to add them individually, she quickly followed her in doing the same. Sure, it probably wouldn't have hurt a thing to add them all at once, but one by one seemed more satisfying. So, that's precisely what the blonde did. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. S I X.... Once the final cherry had been plopped in, she immediately moved to scoop the silver glitter. TWO scoops. It was so lovely, this sparkly stuff...but still it did nothing to improve her mood. So, instead, Olivia focused on Stasya and her success. The little Lioness was doing so well, and Liv told her as much. "Great job!" The ickles did make her happy. "You're doing so well!"
Having been distracted for a moment, the glitter had made somewhat of a mess...but that was the risk you ran when dealing with glitter. It was downright impossible not to get EVERYWHERE. So, hopefully, magic would be able to clear it away during clean up. If not.... Sorry about that, Professor Canterbury.
Adding the silvery substance to her cauldron, Liv moved to kill the flame.

That giggle, quiet as it had been, so quiet that Daisy had almost missed it, was precious and the Slytherin found herself grinning widely at the younger boy. This felt satisfying, which was, frankly, strange. Daisy was used to making children laugh but usually they were family - she didn't remember ever speaking to Abey, in fact she was pretty sure she never had, and yet that giggle made her happy. Hm. Human beings truly were remarkable.
Ready as she had been to sit down on the floor and wait this out with Abey, she was glad that the second year felt calm enough to return to his seat. She looked towards the direction he was pointing to, recognising one student but not really the other -- oh, that was funny. And handy, too. She turned back to him and scrunched up her nose. "So you get your desk and your cousin. Lucky." Hopefully that would keep him from freaking out during the rest of the lesson. Enough tears for Mr. Botros, she thought.
Keeping his hand in hers, she stood up and glanced around the classroom, surprised to find everybody almost done with the potion. That was -- terribly predictable, actually. She turned back to Abey, only this time looking down. "Let's get you to your desk, then." Her gaze found Professor Canterbury again, but she seemed too busy, or distracted, to notice the two students walking around the classroom, which suited her just fine, to be honest. And -- oh, she hadn't told him her name. Oops. Grinning, the shook the hand she was holding."Oh, I'm Daisy. And you're Abey." See? They were good now.

With the reaction successfully burned out, Olivia placed a mothwing into the cauldron. Alright. Twenty minutes to complete the potion, right? Picking up the spoon that rest at the side of the cauldron, she stirred the mixture five times counterclockwise and then ten times clockwise, watching the mixture change colour. One. Deep purple. Two. Deep purple. Three. Glittery purple. Four. Still glittery purple. Five. Same as before. Six. Less purple more silver. Seven. Less purple more silver. Eight. Less purple more silver. Nine. Silver. Ten. Light white silver. Perfect. Placing the last moth wing in the cauldron, she then checked her notebook to see what was next. Alright. The cheese cloth was next right. Picking up the cheese cloth, she carefully placed it over the cauldron and then prepared to wait five minutes.
The five minutes passed slowly. During this time, Olivia spent half the time, watching the clock, and the other half, preparing her vial. When the five minutes had gone up, Olivia poured a sample into the vial. Then she wrote her full name and house and year on it. Then raised her hand to see if the Professor could come over and check her potion. "Excuse me, Professor. Could you come check my potion?" she asked.
Okay, it was official: Levi was the perfect tablemate for potions class. Not only was he not distracting like some people (Helloo Henry, we mean you. Char spared a moment to wave her little finger at her boyfriend), but Levi was also conscientious enough to fetch ingredients for her too. Stand up guy, really. She would just have to keep working with-- oh they were starting. Right.
Did it matter what size cauldron you had when you have filled it? Oh well, Char wasn't bothered enough to ask. She was bothered enough to give her cauldron a quick scour though. She couldn't remember the last thing she brewed so it it was good to be safe, just in case, even if it looked clean already.
That done, she cast aguamenti and filled the cauldron to what looked like halfway when she eyeballed it.
Next she lit the fire beneath it with Incendio and waited for the water to boil. It was easy to get distracted while waiting, honestly, but it finally started to bubble. Were they supposed to leave it on the boil? Char didn't ask, she just threw in the five juniper berries Levi had brought over for her and then looked at the huge waaaaaaaall of instructions again, aka the reason potions was not her best subject.
By the time she had, Levi had again come to her rescue, providing her with the shrivelfig half. "Thanks!"
What a gem.
The Levi, not the shrivelfig.
Levi squinted at the instructions on the board, not out of inability to read them properly but because they seemed to be missing steps he felt were needed. Were the berries supposed to be added one by one or all at the same time?
He went with one by one.
The water in his cauldron had bubbles everywhere so the boy took as a sign to add the berries andthen squeeze the juice out of the shrivelfig. He did not use protective gloves, so while the potion began to turn purple, Levi used his wand to scourge the hand he'd used with to extract the juice.
Kettleburn seemed to be doing well enough, he supposed, though she was missing the usual glint she always sported for more practical lessons like Defense the Dark Arts. He frowned, looking back at his cauldron and noting the purple tint coloring his concoction. He cleansed his stir stick, and began the clockwise countdown from ten to one, watching the brew slowly begin to darken.
"What's dark enough to be considered the exact shade dark purple, Kettleburn?" Four, three, two, one. In a whisper, he continued: "Visual aids would be nice, right? It's just kind of subjective, I think." In his opinion, the steps to correctly brew a potion could not be subjective or left open for interpretation. There needed to be clarity and precision and, oh, bother--Levi tsked at himself and hastily began the counter-clockwise countdown from five to one.
At least it looked dark enough. "D'you think we'll be able to keep a sample? Seems fair to me, honestly." Reward for a job (presumably)
well done.
Aurora carefully copied the recipe and notes onto parchment:

She began her potion, working step by step, carefully reading each line. She carefully counted her juniper berries and shared her shrivelfig with the girl at the next table. She smiled happily when her potion turned deep purple.
She dipped her moth wings and added them to the potion and then waited patiently as it burned out after she added the pearl dust. She stirred as directed and added the third moth wing. After she topped it with cheesecloth, she watched the clock, patiently waiting for the five minutes to be up.

The fire was out underneath her cauldron, but Stasya knew she wasn’t finished yet. There was still a lot left to do, even without looking at her notes to make sure she hadn’t missed anything. Plus, there was the announcement that they only had twenty more minutes left until the end of the lesson. It made her eyes widen, making her worry that she wasn’t going to finish. But then, she heard Liv and she couldn’t help but beam in the older girl’s direction, her smile nearly as sparkling as the glitter in her hair from the small mess she’d made when she’d measured said glitter out for her potion. The note of confidence helped her a lot. But now she had to get back to her potion.
Checking her notes, she located the fall leaves and added those to her cauldron the same way she’d added the cherries. One at a time; one, two, three, four, five. She’d scrunched her face up a little when she realized what was next though. The moth wings she was pretending weren’t there. At least they followed the leaves, so she could pretend she was just dipping littler leaves into her tincture of demiguise, letting any excess drip off back into the container before she dropped the two wings into her cauldron. Not looking. If she didn’t look she could keep pretending it wasn’t part of an innocent creature going into her potion.
She did have to look afterward though, as she added the pearl dust into the cauldron and watched the little reaction it made when it came into contact with the tincture from the wings. Only when the burn stopped did she add another dipped wing, still silently denying that it was a wing. Afterward she began stirring again, this time only five times in the backward clock motion followed by ten times like a clock. Glancing at her potion, she tilted her head slightly as she tried to figure out if it was the right color. It was definitely lighter, but she couldn’t tell if it was silvery-white or still had a faint purplish color. Either way, she added the last dipped wing before she could lose her concentration in denying they were wings, before covering the whole cauldron with the cheesecloth. Now she just had to wait five minutes.

Smiling a little wider now at the handshake, Abey felt himself feel all the more lighter now, emotionally, that is. Daisy. Okay. Yes. Like the flower. He liked Daisy. Daisy Carden.
"Thank you, Daisy," he said, a little closer to normal volume again now as they moved back towards the desk he had been sitting at. And by Junia too. YES, actually. He was the luckiest actually.
As they walked, Abey couldn't help but notice that everyone was already well into the brewing of their potions. It was a little disorienting, as it hadn't been THAT long ago that everyone had been answering questions and doing the thing with the ink and the dust. Or... wait, how long had it been; Abey had to admit that when he reached that point of freaking out, he completely lost his sense of time. What had the professor just said? "Is class almost over?" He couldn't quite keep the hopeful tone from his voice. Maybe he could avoid the actual potioning entirely.
Already he was planning more ways to stall, except deliberate ones this time. He still needed to read Emmeline's secret message, after all, and there was that mysterious parchment butterfly waiting for him.

It was time for brewing and Shay was ready to go. She copied down all of the instructions from the board, making sure to double check them for correctness. Then she went to wash her hands and took out her necessary equipment. After cleaning everything, she went up to retrieve all of the necessary ingredients that she did not already have.
Shay returned to her work station, organized her supplies, then checked her notes again. Taking out her wand, she aimed it into her cauldron and said, "Aguamenti". She watched as the water poured into her cauldron and when it had reached the halfway mark, she said, "Finite". All set with the water, Shay lit the fire with a quick, "Incendio ". Finally, she turned the flame up high and waited for the water to come to a boil.
When the water was finally ready, Shay dropped her five juniper berries into the water. She donned her protective gloves, grabbed the Shrivelfig that Ava was offering her and proceeded to squeeze the juice out it. "Thanks", she said gratefully to her dorm mate. Once the Shrivelfig was sufficiently de-juiced, it joined the berries in the cauldron. Shay looked into the cauldron and noted that her potion seemed to be what could pass for light purple. Hoping she was on the right track, she continued on.
After peeking at her notes, Shay reached for a stirrer and placed it in the potion. It was time to stir obviously and she began to move in a counterclockwise direction, counting softly to herself. "one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten." The stirring was then reversed and moving clockwise. "one, two, three, four five" When Shay checked, she thanked Merlin that her potion was dark purple. Whether or not it was dark enough, she did not know. Hopefully it was.
Next, Shay had to add her six cherries to the potion. She gently dropped them into the cauldron one by one. Then she grabbed her scoop, filled it with silver glitter and poured it into the mixture. She repeated the process one more time, resisting the urge to stir everything together. Next step, turn off the heat, which is exactly what Shay did. Taking a deep breath, she prepared to complete the second half of the potion.

So many questions (and MORE formulating with each passing moment) left unanswered, Derf did as Jessa suggested and dropped his mostly drained shrivelfigs into his cauldron and peeeeeeeeeered inside to see if the color changed as it should. Only there was a bit of a problem with this step, so he was back to tugging on Jessa's robes and pointing inside at the bubbling liquid. "Is-s-s...the color right?" It was definitely different shade than before and lighter...but it was hard to tell, especially with lighter shades.
Picking up his spoon - wooden, for the record - he sloooooowly dipped it into the liquid and began the stirring step ... ten times counter clock wise, then five times clockwise ... shouldn't be too bad.
"I know that," he nodded, going back to the topic of glitter and how light doesn't pass THROUGH it while stirring. "I meant like...you know how mirrors-s-s reflect? The...uuuuuuuuuuuum...Law of Reflection? Light bouncing off in the opposite direction of from where it hit from. So like...MAYBE that's-s-s what glitter in the potion does-s-s? It helps-s-s light pass-s-s-s through us-s becaus-s-se of the Law of Reflection?"
UUUUUUUUUUUH...how many stirs had that been now? Adding a few more for good measure, Derf switch up his direction and this time properly counter to five and then peered into his cauldron. Again...unsure of the color. "Does it s-s-still look okay?"

Fill cauldron half way full with water, Bring the water to a boil. ✓ this takes a REALLY long time. Mum says watching water makes the boiling take longer so probably better to start prepping the other ingredients while you wait. Like cutting the shrivelfig.
Add in the juniper berries ✓ BE CAREFUL NOT TO DO SO TOO EXCITEDLY BECAUSE BOILING WATER SPLASHING ON YOUR HANDS HURTS!!!!!!
Cut the Shrivelfig in half, you may wear protective gloves if you wish, squeeze the juice out, and drop the Shrivelfig. ✓ You have to squeeze reeeeeeeeally hard to get all the juice out...and it's kind of messy.
At this point potion should be a light purple ✓
Stir ten times counter clock wise, then five times clockwise, potion should be a deep dark purple. ✓ Probably a good idea NOT to talk while doing this part.
Add in the cherries
Add the silver colored glitter
