Default Potions Lesson #1

The normal greenish glow of the dungeons seem to glow a bit brighter today as if it was reflecting some of the sunlight from outside somehow. The classroom is a comfortable even for the September weather. The workstations are sat up in their normal way four people per table, not that it was relevant to the lesson today. Labs coats, were hanging right as you walk in, if you wanted one they were there. On workstation was a parchment, quill, and two vitals one has a clear liquid and the other has a white sandy dust substance in the other. They will find out what was in them soon enough.

Professor Canterbury had the doors wide open. Standing near the door slipped on her own lab coat and walked around the classroom. Checking to see it was all ready to go and that each spot had what was needed for the lesson. She moved back behind her desk and to took a seat as she waited for the students to come in. Come right on in and take a seat the lesson be being getting started

Lesson progression:
Greeting and Question
Responses and Experiment
Stuff here and Question
Answers and Invisibility Potion

OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Professor Canterbury’s rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. Please remember this IC this is not the first lesson of the term. Class will continue in a little over 24 hours time (May 6 around 9am EST) Thanks for coming! Class has officially started so please keep the chatting to a minimum. If you haven't posted your charrie in here and want to, please feel free to jump right in and pretend as though they've been here the entire time.

Liquid from a demiguise? That sounded so...gross. Kane wasn't sure what that meant exactly and he really didn't think he wanted to know. Nope. Instead he furiously took notes on what everyone else was saying.

Once he was done, he took the ink, trying hard NOT to think about what was in it, and began to write a message. Now what to write? Hmm. All he needed was something simple...he dipped his quill in the ink and started to write.

Kane is cooler than Brent.

An obvious statement.

Tincture of Demiguise... Oliver had to wonder what part of the creature this liquid was extracted from but he also probably didn't want to know. He looked at the quill and parchment and vials as Professor Canterbury spoke. Right.. a picture or a doodle. He looked to Katy "I'll draw you something.." He started to do his best but with invisible ink how could he tell how it was going?

His plan was to draw Miaow and Churchill, He and Katy's cats. But he was sure they would look more like blobs with ears in the wrong spots and whatnot. He could draw and sketch well enough with traditional ink, so maybe it was all in his head and it wouldn't be some kind of hideous looking cat thing.

Right.. Well despite being able to see Oliver thought he was done. The Slytherin took the pearl dust and sprinkled it over the picture.. He was supposed to do that part now, yes? He hoped so cause it was done. "What do you think?" He showed it to Katy.. they were indeed blobs.

Tincture. Of. Demiguise. Katy had totally called it, and now she was kicking herself for not having said that answer out loud. Just because other people already mentioned demiguise didn't make her answer derivative. Not if it was right.

But she was willing to forgive herself for that lapse in judgment, because they were playing with the tincture and PEARL DUST. Those were the ingredients of one of the first explosive experiments Katy had ever tried, and she already knew how this would go. This was essentially her dream class, although she'd prefer to scale upward into taking out a wall or a corridor or something.

She dragged her parchment in front of her and dipped the quill into the tincture. One glance at Oliver's masterpiece. "Are those... clouds? Sheep! You drew me sheep!" Why in the world did he think she wanted sheep? Was he calling her a sheep? "I'll draw you something too." Quiet explosion sounds issued from her mouth, each on a tiny puff of air, as Katy wrote "BOOM" in big bubble letters. Then drew some fireworks around it.

She added the pearl dust and gasped in awe at the small flash. Boom. "Professor? What's the solvent for this tincture? Is it alcohol based?" Most were.

"Clouds? Sheep? Nooo! That's Miaow and that's Churchill!" He said pointing at them. "I got about halfway through when i realized invisible ink is bad for drawing stuff." Really how had he not thought of that sooner. Then there were little explosions coming from Katy's end of the desk, he peeked to see what she was drawing.. But again, invisible!

"Boom!" He read enthusiastically, but quietly.. Cause he didn't want to be disruptive.. "Why boom?" What did she know that he didn't? Besides everything about this class..

So Sam wasn't exactly in the talking mood. Anyone who knew her would be totally shocked by that. But when Hadley greeted her, the Lion gave her a thumbs up by way of acknowledgement. She wasn't trying to be unfriendly, and not talking was probably the friendliest thing she could do right now. Except you know, for her curiosity about the things in front of her. As she was messing with him, she couldn't help but roll her eyes at her "cousin's" stupid response. He did manage to get a small smile out of her though. "This isn't cooking class you know." Seeing the strange look the boy gave her, and her cheese, she simply replied "Madame Curie." It just didn't feel right going down to potions with out her customary stop by the kitchens to get a small piece of cheese for the rat, and a piece for herself too that she always ate on the way down. It didn't matter that there was no Madame Curie or Professor Newton, it still needed to be done.

Pulling out her parchment and quill as the professor started the class, Sam wrote down the question posed to them. As she thought about what might be in the potion, she also wrote down what everyone else was suggesting, along with what the professor said about each. It was important to know why certain ingredients wouldn't work. Hearing some of the answers made her smirk. Cherries? that sounded so ridiculous, and she was completely surprised when they were told that it was actually an ingredient. She was also surprised that Ace's answer of something from a thestral wasn't correct. They were invisible to her still, so they should be in it. She tried to think of something unique that hadn't been said a million times, like the demiguise. The only thing she could think of was something from the Hidebehind but that just seemed dumb. It was part demiguise sure, but it seemed better to use something from the real thing. Still, she wrote the word down and put a big question mark beside it, not wanting to say it out loud and look dumb.

Once Canterbury told them what was in the vials she looked at them questioningly. Huh, so that's what they were. That explained why the powdery one was pretty, but the other? Eww, especially once she heard Ace's muttered comment. Raising her hand, she asked, "Was the demiguise dead when you... extracted this.... stuff?" All she could think of was how things were extracted from food. Hadn't Ace demonstrated things like that before when he was making a snack? As she looked at the two vials again, she thought about how they had been told mixing the two would make it burn. What would happen if she poured them both into her cauldron? Oh how she was itching to try that.

First though, she had to make a secret message. Umm, okay so what should she write then? A true secret wouldn't work, because then they wouldn't be secret and all of her friends would be mad at her. So she'd keep them and her grumpy mood bottled up inside. Instead of anything really secretive, or even meaningful, she drew a simple shape on her parchment. Looking over to her table mates she asked, "Are we supposed to pour the powder on them now?" She glanced around the room and couldn't tell, seeing as some people were already doing it and some looked like they were just writing their notes and waiting. "What happens if the ink dries?"

Zarina figured she might need a new partner soon enough. She heard the professor babble on about the ingredients and what was right and wrong. Blah blah blah. She began to tune her out and looked around and figured she might as well gravitate towards Mel who she met at the feast. She was easy to spot with her long brown hair and glasses. Zae cleared her throat and asked, "Is it okay if I join you?" She didn't even wait for her answer since she knew she would say yes. She seemed like that person. Zae sat down in the seat next to her and began to start with the assignment of drawing a picture. She figured she might write her name in bubble letters or maybe a doodle of a cartoon. She got some ink and began to draw her masterpiece. Wait nahh, she changed her mind.

Zarina began to draw her name but it was all cursive and had flowers around it. She figured it was plain and simple and Mel would never guess.

Yep, Kirk did catch the nod from Mel. Great minds think alike is what they always say. So they weren't wrong, but weren't exactly right either apparently. Oh well, he came in here to learn after all.

Before the Professor even finished the instructions, Kirk went on ahead and dipped the quill inside the clear vial. Write a secret message, eh? He had to think about this. It had to be something neat but nor weird enough to be embarrassing the read aloud to others, because he knew it had to be shared.

...

*scribble, *scribble* 'Nothing to see here'

And that was all he wrote.

Okay, so no unicorn parts, which she could get over, but was she the only one wondering what in the name of Merlin the professor meant by demiguise tincture? It seemed so broad, much more than Skylar would have liked. It was extracted from the creature, but did that mean it was like demiguise blood? Demiguise urine? Or spit? What sort of liquid COULD be extracted from demiguises? These were important questions, that the Professor just seemed to overlook, because she was giving them a mini assignment.

She needed to write in the demiguise tincture and then sprinkle pearl dust on the parchment to reveal whatever she wrote. Except she had no idea what to write, especially if someone else were to read it, last thing she wanted was to write something embarrassing like 'Brent has nice lips'.

The burning reaction was kind of cool though. Pressing the end of the quill to her mouth thoughtfully, she finally dipped it in the clear liquid.

Slytherin is the best house

Obviously. Glancing over at Kane, she smiled. "Want to trade messages?" Unless of course he wrote something embarrassing, but he was a Hufflepuff, so she doubted he would have. Hufflepuffs were far too nice for embarrassing remarks.

Olivia remained quiet and kept scribbling down notes in her notebook. She wasn't in a talkative mood today. She wasn't in a particularly notable mood either. She had stayed up way too late yesterday reading underneath a blanket as to note disturb her roommates. She kept her mouth closed, stifling a yawn as best she could. She wasn't bored with the subject. She was just tired. Blinking her eyes quickly, she sat up straighter as she listened to the Professor speak.

Tincture of demiguise, pearl dust... an invisibility potion?

That woke Olivia up. There were so many cases in which an invisibility potion would come in handy for sure. Hmm... Glancing at the parchment in front of her, she picked up her quill and was about to write something when she paused. What should she write perhaps? She bit her lip. She was drawing a blank. Writer's block. How sad. Hmm... Maybe she could write a fortune or something. Hmm.. What kind of fortune or ominous message ought she leave? The possibilities were, in theory, endless, right?

She settled on: Somebody appreciates the unique you..

He was REALLY trying to listen to everyone's answers and pay attention for ONCE, but the wondering of what he had just dabbed on his tongue was rather distraction. As was whatever it was that Jessa had just drank. So really...he was thinking about tongues and their ability to taste or,
in their case, not taste. Was it because there wasn't really a sense of smell to the things? Most of taste DID come from smell. It was why eating some of the nasty flavors in Bertie Bott's wasn't SO bad if you plugged your nose.

But when he was listening...he was wishing he wasn't. Even the answer from Abey's older sister was enough to make him want to just plug his ears and sing really REALLY loudly. Dried octopus flesh - which he supposed was better than moist octopus flesh if he HAD to choose - was not something the Hufflepuff found palatable.

NOR WAS THE IDEA OF DEMIGUISE POWDERED BONES, JESSA CAMBRIDGE!

"...how dare you," he wibbled pathetically, blue eyes SNAPPING back to the front of the classroom with PLEADING looks at the professor. SAY IT ISN'T SO! PLEEEEEEEASE!

AND HOW DARE YOU BRENT WESTWOOD?! SPLEENS?!

Derf's face was beginning to go a bit pale...but it was the words of Levi Kenning that truly did the Hufflepuff in. Blood. Chameleon's blood. His second year hands gripped the edge of the table and he swaaaaaaaaayed a bit in his seat.

Now, to be entirely fair, blood in general sort of made the Hufflepuff's insides squeamish - especially considering what had happened last term. It had been one thing to have seen his dog desecrated by a flesh eating shrub...but his imagination went wild at all the horrible possibilities that COULD have been when Simon and Abey were taken by the monster.

Looking as though he had struck himself with his own Slug-vomiting charm,
the second year missed the looks thrown his and Jessa's direction by the Head Boy and his eyes crossed when his swaying turned his head towards Henry just as the prefect was giving him that two finger look and wink - needless to say...the gesture went unnoticed which was a SHAME because Derf would have appreciated it and low key fanboy a little internally.

He couldn't even raise his hand to ask what exactly a tincture was - and he was going to need a lot of clarification considering his preferred eating habits - and the professor's instructions were just BARELY registered as the rest of the class went on about doing whatever had just been instructed. Vacantly, his gaze returned to Jessa when she was showing him something...and saying something...

...but in the next moment Derf was vomiting up something. And it certainly wasn't slugs.

Sorry Jessa.

Default Abey, Theo, Derf, Stasya, Prof, Olivia mentions
Gryffindor for life Notorious Niffler

Emmeline had been looking around the room just in time to see the older girl's nice look in her direction (Olivia). She smiled shyly back at the girl before focusing on what Abey was saying. So she hadn't scared him with her freak-out after all; that was good news. She gave him a small smile as well, then refocused her attention once again on the teacher.

What did "tincture" mean? And how could something be extracted from a demiguise? Because it just sounded awful, and she would NOT be brewing this potion if a demiguise had been hurt just for ingredients. She glanced at her other creature-loving friends (Derf and Stasya) to see how they were taking this news.

No one else was letting this bother them, though. Even the kid who asked if the demiguise was dead when the stuff was extracted had continued working. So, not wanting to be the only one freaking out for what might turn out to be no reason AGAIN, Emmeline reluctantly picked up her quill. She decided she was not going to try to draw anything -- how could she make a doodle without being able to see it anyway? -- or write a long, secret message. Because if the demiguise had been hurt for this, she wasn't going to stand for it for long. Raising her hand, she stared almost pleadingly at the teacher as she asked: "Excuse me, Professor, but was the demiguise hurt during this extracting thing?"

She would just give the Potions teacher the benefit of the doubt for this one activity. She had never actually hoped to be freaking out for no reason before, but she fervently did this time because a demiguise being hurt for a POTION was too terrible to think about for long. Hand shaking slightly, Emmeline relunctantly dipped her quill into the -- the -- liquid, and wrote

Thank you, Demiguise

on her parchment. At least she tried to write that. She also drew a biiiig heart shape, hopefully around the words, and dropped her quill on the table because she was done. She had done it, she was guilty of profiting from abuse of a demiguise if it had been hurt...

Stop it, Emmeline, she told herself sternly. You were wrong about this teacher before.

So she was very glad when Theo and Abey had finished too, and even more happy to take Abey's suggestion because then she could focus on whatever Theo had on his parchment instead of her own. "Sounds good to me," Emmeline replied, slipping the possibly-evil parchment towards Abey. She slid Theo's towards her own side of the table. He had already asked if she wanted to use the sandy stuff (she hadn't paid attention to what it was called) on his parchment.

Without much delay, Emmeline shook out some of the dust-whatever onto Theo's parchment. The stuff burned off just as the professor's had, and Theo's message was revealed! "Will this really work" She grinned at Theo and pushed his parchment into the middle of the table so both boys could see it. "I guess it worked, unless you wrote something else..?"

And then Derf threw up like all over his table and the poor Ravenclaw girl. Alarmed by his swaying in his seat and thinking his tablemate was probably preoccupied by the puke, Emmeline got up and carefully moved towards him, trying to avoid the sick on the floor. She reached out a hand to his back to steady him if he was okay with that, and wished she knew a cleaning spell or something. Friends were more important than messes anyways. "Hey Derf...what happened?"

Default Kettleburn and Derf.
Wowza!

He had some questions but in reality none of them were necessarily directly related to the professor's words or what they were supposed to be doing, so the Gryffindor boy kept quiet. His plan was to take detailed notes but mostly he wrote not chameleon based, just DEMISGUISE. He underlined the latter several times, determined to head to the library later and do some research.

It was in moments like this when he wondered if not bothering with Care of Magical Creatures had been a good idea.

Oh, points had been docked for tardiness? That struck him as unnecessary, especially since the kid looked like a first year and had admitted to getting lost. But, whatever.

And then there was vomit. From Derfael.

Never a boring day at Hogwarts.

"Huh."

Levi tapped his foot against the foot of his work station twice. Then set to use the clear liquid as instructed. Because he couldn't see what he was writing with the clear liquid, it was impossible for him to tell if his round, slightly scrawly penmanship was legible. But the boy wrote NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE THE DAY IN WHICH NOTE-PASSING WOULD BE ALLOWED IN CLASS, KB in a parchment and slid it over to Charlotte.

..."You good, Derfael?" Obviously not. And neither was the Ravenclaw girl next to him (Jessa) whose name escaped him, just then. Or possibly always. Unbeknownst that his words had helped the Hufflepuff boy's reaction, Levi stood up and walked over him. One of the new Gryffindors (Emmeline) seemed to be there for the boy, so Levi sent her a small smile and placed his hand on the boy's shoulder. Then he addressed the professor. "Should I take care of the vomit, Professor Canterbury?" Probably, Derf would have to be excused. Surely.

Stasya was conflicted nearly from the start of the lesson, seeing as all the discussion about using creature body parts had made her awfully uncomfortable and explained the several glances she’d given the vials n front of her. Plus, there was the whole worry over if Jessa and Derf had managed to poison themselves with tasting whatever actually was in those vials, if it had actually been blood or any other sort of substance that might have involved actually injuring poor defenseless creatures. She knew about demiguises after all. They didn’t deserve to be harvested for potions. It was all almost overwhelming for the first year. If she hadn’t had Noelle, Etta and Olly at the table with her, she might’ve tried to sneak out. Instead, she was going to try to be strong.

At least pearl dust didn’t seem too upsetting, except she’d lifted up the vial of powder questioningly, tilting it in different direction to see if it shimmered like a pearl. It ought to, but it just looked like sand which was awfully disappointing.

In any case, messages were happening and she’d looked up as she heard Olly suggesting he and Noelle write messages for each other, and Etta had apparently just written one for herself. And, looking over, she saw Derf, and the puddle of sick surrounding him, and she’d wanted to jump out of her seat again. Instead, she just sent encouraging glances over to him, watching Emmeline as she tried to help too. And she’d scribbled a simple note with a bit of the clear liquid from her vial. Are you okay, Derf? Maybe she could send it over to him somehow.

"So this is demiguise liquid?" She said softly as she examined the vial in her hands carefully before placing it back in the holder.

Although her intention was to reach for her quill, instead a soft thud filled the class. Of all times to drop something, it had to be now. With her face flushed she leaned over to pick up her book, that was laying on the ground. Hopefully, her classmates would be distracted and too focused on their own work, that they wouldn't really notice. Sighing softly, she took a quick glance around the room before returning to her paper.

Collecting herself, she reached for her quill once again, now dipped in demiguise liquid, and began drawing a couple of different sized circles on her paper. It wasn't long before she was finished and was reaching for the pearl dust to reveal her design.

Okay, writhing something didn’t sounded that difficult to do so but what o what should she writhe? Hmm, that was a good question! Taking her quill in her right hand she pulled the parchment closer so that she could write better and… Well… Again the same question, what should she write? Hmm… Looking down at her parchment she suddenly thought about something easy and she started writhing. Rules are there to be broken. So, she was done! This message was easy but, she liked it because… Well… Rules WERE there to be broken right? Taking some of the dust inside the vial she sprinkled it over her parchment to see what happened and… Hah! Her letters became visible! That was cool!

Emmeline seemed to be on board with the idea, so that was good! Abey smiled and took part in the shuffling of parchments, but it wasn't until he was sat there, looking down at Emmeline's apparently blank parchment that something else occurred to him. Uh......

Oh.

Well... may as well... actually go through the motions?

Taking a pinch of the dust, Abey sprinkled it over the entire parchment, biting his lip as he waited for something to appear, and hoping it wasn't anything too complicated or something actually. Of course, as it turned out, his attention was grabbed by something else before he could start to try and read the message that had bloomed into view.

Because... Derf.

His head snapping up at the sound of... uh... that, Abey took only a second to realise what was going on. Letting out a strangled cry, he quickly leapt up out of his seat, sending it clattering to the ground in his urgency, and darted in Derf's direction too.

"Is he okay?!" Abey asked urgently, his voice wavering so very noticeably in his upset, and tears already springing to his eyes. STUPID question; Derf wasn't okay, and Abey had been able to tell for a good few minutes. He wanted to give his villain a HUG or something, but he was too scared to even try and reach for the other boy's hand, in case he made things worse. Typically, the tears had started falling, because of course they had.

dream until your • dreams come true ~ Human pygmy puff

Shay was busy writing notes, as the Professor talked about the ingredients for an invisibility potion. She was distracted from the task at hand when she realized that two younger students had sampled the vialed items that were placed on their desks. Seriously? Ok they were young.......that was a given. But why would anyone over the age of three ever ingest an unknown subject, especially one in a Potions class? Shay made a mental note to find where the bezoar was stored in the classroom. With this bunch, they may need it before the term was out.

Since the two were still breathing and the professor assured everyone that they weren't poisoned, Shay turned her focus back to Potions. The identity of the mysterious items was revealed at last and the professor gave a little demonstration of how they could be used. Now, they got to play. Shay smoothed out her parchment and thought about what she would write. She had just dipped her quill into the demiguise tincture and begun to write, when an unmistakable, unpleasant sound met her ears. Looking up, she saw one of the two overly curious students reintroducing his pearl dust to the world. Yeah well, lesson learned. Shay did have some sympathy for the boy and was prepared to lend her assistance. However, it appeared that several other students had already come to his aid.

Trying to regain her focus, Shay turned back to her parchment and continued to write. When she finished, she retrieved the vial of pearl dust, unstoppered it and sprinkled some onto her parchment. In a moment, her writing began to be visible to the eye. And there it was. Carpe Diem, Seize the day. Words to live by.

Alright, they were not going to use flooberworm mucus but it worth a guess. And now she needed to write a secret message. Hmmm... At first the Gryffindor wanted to write 'future Mrs. Romalotti' and then gave it to Phillip but then she changed her mine because it would freak the boyfriend out. (Although she kind of loved it when he did.) Hmmm...

Yeah, that's better.

Ava couldn't help but notice that Derf looked white and threw up. Was it the effect of the testing or something else? "I think he should see Healer Reed." She gave a suggestion.

"I really hope it's not Demiguise pee," Hads laughed. Then she eyed the liquid suspiciously. "You know what?" She told Ace, as she dug in her bag. "I'm using my least favorite quill just in case." And probably going to throw it out after this, also just in case.

Yeah, she had a least favorite quill.

Once the quill was located, Hads dipped it into the tincture of Demiguise, whatever it was, and began to doodle a secret dolphin. Which wasn't exactly the easiest thing in the world when you couldn't see your own lines. Moment of truth then? Did she actually doodle a dolphin or some disfigured blob with fins?

Taking a pinch of pearl dust, Hads sprinkled it onto her parchment.

And now they got to write down secret messages. This lesson was turning out to be fun. Well, all learning was fun in Maxton's eyes but this was extra fun.

Maxxie dipped the tip of his quill in the clear liquid and wrote down the first thing that came to his mind... DAISY SMELLS. "Here you go," he said, pushing the parchment across the desk towards his older sister. "Sprinkle on the dust and see what I wrote!" Hehehe!
It was safe to say that Daisy was distracted. Later, she would say it had been the waiting around. Maybe from now on, it would be better for her to arrive at the exact time the lesson started, instead of giving herself time to sit down at a desk and daydream. The class had started but she wasn't really paying attention, busy as she was doodling distractedly on the parchment and thinking. It was almost sunny inside the classroom and summer was still too close, so of course her mind wandered. It wandered towards sunny days, dogs playing in the water, white sand and --

"Maxton." She whispered to her brother, only catching the end of Professor Canterbury's explanation. Something about dust and pearls? Some liquid involved? The sixth year tensely rubbed the side of her neck as her eyes quickly darted around the room, before returning to her brother. Another whisper. "I might need to borrow your notes." Which was probably not the way this was supposed to go. Maybe she would find Levi after class and ask to duplicate his notes. Yes. That way she wouldn't be asking her second year brother and. Well, it was a good plan.

For later. They had stuff to do now, clearly. She grabbed the quill and copied what Maxton did did just as instructed. Despite the fact that her brain knew she was writing something, it was pretty weird not to see it being written. Could she even spell if she couldn't see what she was spelling? Were the words all jumbled up on top of each other? Nevertheless, Daisy wrote, hopefully, THE CANNONS STINK AND SO DOES MAXTON and passed the parchment to her brother's side of the workstation. "You sound far too amused for this to be any good." Daisy commented, sprinkling pearl dust on top of --- Oh. Hilarious.

Daisy rolled her eyes and swatted his arm. "I do not smell, Maxton Robert. You're full of lies, you know." Which was rich considering what she had written. Not that the Chudley Cannons part was a lie -- it really, really wasn't, she would like that to be clear. She was ready to explain it all to Maxton but then Hogwarts -- was Hogwarts.

The Hufflepuff kid from the feast, the one she swore she recognised but could never remember his name, was puking, Levi was there and Abey was... Well. Remember how her faith in Hogwarts' staff had been broken last year? Yeah, it broke all over again. So she left the workstation and found her way to the slight confusion as fast as she could, grimacing at the look of all the vomit but satisfied that people were dealing with that. She turned to the second year Gryffindor, wanting to offer physical comfort but unsure of how to do that because she still remembered watching as Abey and Simon had exited the portal last term and she really didn't want to make things worse. She sent Levi a quickly look before sort of awkwardly standing by the younger Gryffindor, crouching down to stand at his level. "Abey, he's fine. There's no need to cry, Professor Canterbury is going to make sure he's fine." Or Levi was. One of those. Her hands twitched at her side, but she tried to keep her face as comforting as possible.

Again. Remind her how no one had been fired?

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Thank you Derfael Mitchell Ashburry-Hawthorne. Your stomach refuse was EXACTLY what was missing from this table. As if the fact she'd ended up sipping something they'd need wasn't bad enough, now there was all this mess all over their work station--all over her too but that didn't matter as much because there were several cleaning spells and this was a natural bodily process--BUT COME ON. Even the drawing she'd done, which he'd have liked once she revealed what it was, was now covered in whatever Derf had for breakfast.

The thing was, Jessa knew her bestfriend was squeamish, more so when you included anything related to creatures that weren't prancing merrily around an open field singing happy songs or otherwise continuing with their eco-systems. The look and the whispered words of horror were all she needed to know the discussion wasn't going to be taken well. Add all the brilliant suggestions by their classmates and even Jessa couldn't say she was too astonished to be smelling like the inside of Derf's stomach.

Everything after that happened pretty quickly. Emmeline was suddenly at their table making a further mess as she mucked through the bit's of Derf that had missed the table and Abey was there in short order. Poor thing, he was even crying! Oh dear, would he be alright?

Very calmly, as it did no one any good to panic, Jessa slipped out of the lab coat she was now happy she'd opted to throw on earlier. "He's fine, or he will be." She told them, watching her pale faced friend. "You heard the Professor, none of those stuff they mentioned will be in the potion, in fact half that stuff isn't used in any potion." No creatures will be harmed in the making of this potion. Of course now she was a little less curious to know what a tincture of demiguise was in case it went and set her friend off again. "The macabre version of the guessing game's over. How's about you focus on the drawing and I'll get this cleaned up?" Because....the mess...was gonna make her start twitching any minute now. One did not mix messes with potions. Just the thought of how skewed the results could be was sending her mind into something of a tizzy.

Everything would need to be replaced or scourgify-ed nearly a million times. "Wanna ask to walk down the corridor and back to clear your mind first?" She suggested, raising her wand to first clear away everything on the floor, lest others rush over and create a larger mess without really meaning to.

Invisibility potion?

How cool was that idea? Cassie couldn’t help the flickered glance towards the vials on her workstation’s desktop in wonder. However, nothing immediately came to mind in response to the professor’s question so the fifth year opted to listen to what her classmates had to say about it. She had to admit, quite a few seemed to have a good train of thought behind their suggestions. Especially pertaining to the demiguise given she knew the creature had its own ability to turn invisible.

Sure enough, Professor Canterbury spoke up in response, some of the suggested ingredients were indeed inside the invisibility potion and Cass got to work jotting them down in her notes for reference. Demiguise parts…cherries…water…more correctly tincture of demiguise…and the professor’s addition of pearl dust in the mix. The latter two ingredients identified as what was in the vials. Interesting. But even more interesting was the idea of an experiment using the two items.

Paying attention to the instructions, Cassie thought on what to write on the given parchment. Finally she dipped the quill into the liquid and wrote… Caw, Caw, Ravenclaw…before hearing the sound of someone throwing up.

Ewww…was the kid okay?

Let your light shine || Be the sun || You're important. Always.

Jotting down notes, Noelle glanced at the extract of demiguise. okay, what exactly was the extraction? Were Demiguise hurt in the process? She nodded when students were asking those types of questions. Then she looked at the professor to see if she had a response.

In the meantime, she grinned at Olly when he mentioned them passing notes back and forth. Her brilliant person. "Okay deal." She stated while dipping her quill into one of the vials and writing with the clear ink.

SPOILER!!: Ollys hidden message
Any news on T?

Noelle passed him her parchment and reached for his. Opening the other vial, she dusted some of the pearl dust onto the clear ink and his message appeared. She giggled. Okay. So, Olly was definitely the best person in the world.

Using his parchment, Noelle began to scribble another message to Olly. Only, she heard something that wasn't pleasant and looked up. Derf had thrown up. Poor kid. He seemed to be covered though. There were more than enough people helping him. Okay. Back to her message.

SPOILER!!: Olly's NEW hidden message
Olly is obviously the BEST person in the world
.

Done. She passed back his parchment. This could be a new substitution for note passing in class. Birdies were obvious sometimes.

The fact she was right about the cherries didn't surprise her. It hadn't been a guess when she'd offered it up, the Ravenclaw had taken the time to know at least some of the ingredients for each potion on the curriculum. It was a certainty that at one point or the other she would be needing them. This wasn't to say she could quote each potion's recipe ingredient for ingredient but rather that she had at least some idea of what went into them.

The 13 year old nodded along as the Professor tried to ensure they would never taste test again. If it bothered her so much, she and Derf would simply find a new way of finding out what the substances were--because waiting to be told was never the answer but at the same time she'd meant it when she apologized for giving her a fright.

Somewhere in the back of her mind, she was aware of the spectators who'd watched her and Derf have a go at the vials but they hadn't changed much.

And THAT was what was in these vials. Ah. She'd probably not have guessed but the explanation made it clear why the Professor had asked that she not mix the two earlier. Hearing they would be using these in the potion to come, the girl made a mental note to ask for a new vial to replace the one she'd contaminated by having a sip of but for noooooowwwwwwww....drawing with the apparently invisible ink.

Jessa tabbed her quill into the vial of tincture of demiguise then proceeded to make squiggles and swishes all over the parchment the Professor had provided. A line here...carry it over to heeerrree.....then down that way....."I'll give you three chances to guess what this is." The Ravenclaw held the seemingly blank parchment up to Derf once she was done, doubting he'd be able to guess right anyhow.

in their case, not taste.

Now that these two understood that taste testing random things that they didn’t know what it was. ”Let that be a warning to you both.

She was expecting this question, and these questions. Firstly ”No Miss Toussaint the solvent is water, but it other tinctures alcohol is used as the solvent.” She nodded to the slytherin who seem to be on the up of potions things.

Now she looked at the two girls who voice them concern for the demiguise. ”I can ensure you that all the ingredients that I have ever gathered were collectioned in the safest manner that is possble.” What did the students think? That she was some monster that would harm creatures for ingredients. She was not.

SPOILER!!: Derf and the concerned, and Cambridge in the line of fire.

in their case, not taste.

Surely.

Oh.

Well... may as well... actually go through the motions?

Yeah, that's better.

Ava couldn't help but notice that Derf looked white and threw up. Was it the effect of the testing or something else? "I think he should see Healer Reed." She gave a suggestion.

After the taste testing debacle was taking care of the rest of the lesson was going great, She had just finished demonstrating the experiment and was letting the students do their own. Her blue eyes watched around the room at the students checking to see if they were staying on task and not goofy around. Her eyes fell on Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne, oh no she seen her face go pale and that was about all. Please don’t…. Merlin. It all happened so fast. ”Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne, are you okay?” What was wrong with him? It was only pearl dust. Rushing over his side, nearly slipping in the sick on the floor. She eyed the sick on the floor, with her wand she cleaned the floor. There was still more on the floor thought and everywhere.

”Yes, Mister Kenning, thank you and since MIss Sparkles is here, as well have her to help you, show her a cleaning spell.” Her being a first it was unlikely that she had knowledge of the charm. She looked over at the Ravenclaw girl, ”Miss Cambridge, are you okay?” She felt just a bad for her as she did Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne. Though the Ravenclaw was perfectly calm about the whole thing.

She looked to the others who had voice their concern for the Hufflepuff. ”He’ll be fine.” Just a weak stomach and a soft heart for creatures. If what miss Cambridge said was the true reason why the Hufflepuff had gotten sick. It would have fun been the first time that had happened to one of her students.

She turned back to the Hufflepuff second year. ”You can be excused to Healer Reed if you are not feeling well.” Hopefully he would, he had disrupted her lesson twice already. Or Maybe he truly wasn’t feeling good. Either way he was going to see the healer.

”If you haven’t already sprinkle the pearl dust on your parchment or do it once you have finished. What is a chemical reaction? What are some chemical reactions, and what happens? You may also pull from muggle chemistry.” She know that chemistry might be out of the league for some students but everyone at least knew the baking soda and

OOC: I’ll be moving on in another 24 hours or so. Depending on work tonight. Thank you, again for sticking around for the lesson. Also feel free to catch up or jump in.
