Which do you prefer: the films or books? And why?

Which do you prefer, the films or the books?
And why?

Both hold special places in every Potterhead's heart, but which do you prefer? Do you enjoy revisiting Hogwarts on paper in the original 7 novels written by J.K Rowling or as a feast for the eyes in the 8 screen adaptions? Let us know and why!

Growing up reading the books they will always be special to me, paired with nostalgic memories. They first brought the magic of the wizarding world to me, however, I thoroughly enjoyed the films as they made my imagination a reality, seeing the magic unfold.
Both therefore are extremely important within my life however I think I will have to say I prefer the movies. They are my go to mode of entertainment so I feel I have to say the films.

books! i read them all like eight times as a child/teenager and i'm still in love with the world and characters. i'm not in love with everything j.k. does or says though so i'm actively trying to make the hp world more inclusive to all of those j.k. forgot or left out on purpose. the films are very fun to watch and i admire how much effort and detail was put into them (i know rarely any other films that have so many tiny background details and thought put into them) but you'll never get as much information as if you read the books and for me they are the only thing that can truly transport me into that world.

I loved the books, they were magic. However the movies brought the books to imagination!

I enjoy both but prefer the books. You can use your imagination more and get lost between the pages. Plus they have more details in

I love both for different reasons! But I would have to go with the books because we know more information about everyone and everything!

I would say it depends on my mood for the time. Sometimes I feel too lazy and don't want to read so then I'd prefer to watch the movies. However, I do think the book does a better job at allowing the reader to experience the world of Hogwarts better.

i do love both, and it depends on my mood. i do think the books go into more details and experiences in more depth though.

I love the books more than I love the movies but I feel they strengthen each other. Some things are harder to picture alone and the movies help painting a complete picture, sometimes.

I read the first two books before I watched the first movie and this granted me the opportunity to shape the characters in my mind before the movies gave me Radcliffe, Watson, Grint.

So.. I love both but I love the books better, harder, more!

If i had to choose one, i would choose the books, simply because there are so many details in them that the films missed out. However i do love the films and theres just nothing like doing a harry potter movie marathon on a rainy day

To be honest I like them both equally. I love that I can pick up a book and totally lose myself in another world that keeps me occupied for hours (really handy when under a hurricane warning and have no internet). But, I like to have a movie marathon when my kids and grandkids are visiting.

I love the movies but I will always choose the books. They're just so immersive and wonderfully enjoyable. While the movies are great, they just can't capture every little nuanced detail that the books do.

Books without a doubt, but the movies are excellent when helping me learn another language. The books are too, don't get e wrong, but the movies are better at it.

I think I find I enjoy the films over the books, purely for the nostalgia factor if nothing else. I grew up with all the films, but when I was little the only book I had access to was Philosopher's Stone, and while I loved the book to pieces, one book does not a dedication to a series make. I will never forgive them for cutting Winky from the films though.

The books are the best to me because JKR can add details the movies can't spend time on, but the movies have something you can't even get from the books: music.

The books just have so much more to them. You really get to know almost every character personally in the book. Whereas in the movie they gloss over a lot and introduce little of the background characters. The backgrounds kind of just appear and I hate that

I enjoy the books more than the movies most of the time. I read the books as a child, and I loved imagining all of the little details as I read them. I was sick quite often as a child, and I would read the books when laying in bed and resting.

I do have to give the movies credit, however. I did (and still do) enjoy watching the movies with others and seeing everything I imagined come to life. I just got some of my friends into Harry Potter, and it was so cool to see them watch the movie for the first time.

I'm not much of a reader of fiction - I tend to read non-fiction, so I've not read any of the books - I love the films though.

I really prefer the books. I love how J.K. Rowling used the excellent vocabulary and got into Harry’s mind. It’s really like no one wrote it at all! Like there’s something that’s in Harry’s mind which records all his feelings, and thoughts! I loved it.

i love the movies more why because i don't have time/money to get all the books and read them all

I like them both. The books are great because of all the little details that you miss in the movies, but the movies allow you to actually see the events that happen.

I love both books and movies but it depends on what mood I am in. Sometimes I just want to pick up the books and read them but other times, I just want to watch the movies.

I think the books just do a better job of showing a whole wizarding world and have more scenes that you could not really include in the movie. For that reason I think I will always like the books the best.

I think the movies are excellent adaptations of the books, but I would say I prefer the books. There's just so much more in the books that they couldn't add in the movies. This is most obvious for me in The Order of the Phoenix. I love that book but not the movie.
