Which do you prefer, the films or the books?
And why?

Both hold special places in every Potterhead's heart, but which do you prefer? Do you enjoy revisiting Hogwarts on paper in the original 7 novels written by J.K Rowling or as a feast for the eyes in the 8 screen adaptions? Let us know and why!

I prefer the movies. The young actors were so amazing that they have a special place in my heart. This video brought it all back for me. Only Lord of the rings come close.

The books, though I honestly haven't re-read them in quite some time. There's a certain magic contained within the pages that the movies don't quite capture.

Default Book or films and why

It really depends on my mood. I love the books and enjoy submersing myself into them when I have the time. When I just need a quick hit of Potter magic I will watch the movies.

Movies because Snape was far better in them than the books

I prefer the books only because the movies were made before the final book was written. The directors seemed to not know exactly what to focus on while making the films. Id love to see a remake now that so much more is known about the original series.

I would say the books just because they have more content in them, and it's how I first fully experienced the series since all of the movies weren't out by the time I found the series.

I prefer the books over the movies just because of the details we get so much more of in the books. Also book Ginny is so much better and more developed than movie Ginny.

it's either adhd or wrackspurts <3 <3 lily luna's mom has got it going on

Without the books we wouldn't even have the films, and I think reading the books allows you to appreciate the movies so much more. And I'm a bookworm. So books for me

I find that I enjoy the books much more than the movies. I love reading the characters' thoughts and emotions behind everything. I also like how much more in-depth the books go into the characters and storylines. It gives me a much more submersed feeling with the story.

It is hard to decide, but I would say the books because I like to visualize all of it by myself. To me it is way more immersive to read the books than to watch the movies.

I prefer the books since they go into more depth and description about the context, but I still love the movies nevertheless.

I like the movies, but I like the books more. The books have more details. And I think books are more immersive.

Is it cheating to say that I prefer reading the books, but with the soundtrack of the films (and video games) playing in the background. That's the perfect mix. I love the films, but I prefer my own imagined perspective on what the characters, creatures, and settings look like in the books. I also prefer the books simply because there's more to consume - they're more rich in detail. Finally, you can't get into the minds of the characters in the films.

I totally prefer the books, although the films are also wonderful. I think that books allow me to use my imagination more to try to envision certain characters, or situations, or just generally the wizarding world. Also many important things from the books were left out in the movies.

I would prefer books to movies as imagination is more powerful than a movie.

When you read the Harry Potter books, you can picture the characters looking and behaving in the exact way that makes the most sense to you. However, in the movies, the directors and actors force their interpretations onto you. For instance, the movies’ assumption that Hermione was white was not implicit in the book. This became clear when black actress Noma Dumezweni was cast for the West End production of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Not to mention that in the movies, Dumbledore was played by two actors, Richard Harris and Michael Gambon, which can disturb the image one may have had of the Dumbledore they imagined from the books.

I definitely prefer the books. However, I have such great memories of seeing the films, always at Christmas time, when they arrived in the cinema.

Slytherin The Books

I do enjoy both the Harry Potter books and films... however, I prefer the books over all. It is a bit disappointing how some things were left out in the movies, which is why I love the books more than the films.

I think I have to go with the books, I did love the movies but I read the books first and they'll always have a special place in my heart. Besides, my book copies are very much well-loved with how many times I've read them!

Sock 2 books

movies are great, but they are just small windows into the plot of the books. I think the books just offer a lot more.

Oh my goodness.!! First off I wanted to say I love the movies more since it is easier to watch and catch my attention. I just nowadays do not have the time to sit down and watch the movies as I did back in high school days. xD

I think I prefer the films since reading I dont have the time for it these days because I work a part time job and looking for a secondary job too.!!

I like films more, because I'm already very used to them. you do not need to come up with images and so on. But on the other hand, books have a big advantage - a lot of moments and nuances that were not included in the films!
