Ollivanders Display Shelves https://www.snitchseeker.com/uploads...es-banner5.jpg Entering the shop, you'll notice a cozy little area to the left, filled with a couple of sturdy and actually pleasant looking chairs in front of the rather large window with a rug underfoot. There are a couple of potted ferns to either side of the chairs. From here you can watch the chaos of children being matched with their first wands. Tea and coffee is available for parents while they wait for their children to be matched with their wands. |
Rajesh had been a milestone…the first of their children to hit the magical age of 11 and go off to Hogwarts. A stop at Olivander’s the first of many shops in their trip to Diagon Alley. And now they were preparing for two more to follow suit, the duo of Dynah and Nadia, the middle children. Benny moved to open the door of the shop, holding it open for the rest in their troop to wander into the wand shop, the nerves he had felt when it had been Raj just as strong as they were before. Despite being excited for Hogwarts, Nadia still had butterflies in her stomach like her papa. Maybe that was why she seemed to be bouncing as they approached the shop, slipping in as the man held upon the door for them to enter before him. Her brown eyes flitting along the shelves upon shelves there holding Merlin knew how many wands just wanting to choose the witch or wizard they were to belong to. “Wow…” |
Ju and Matt. xD Like any wizarding child, Yoji Reed waited long enough for this moment to arrive. It's been a few good weeks after he'd arrived in the UK, and the boy did not waste any second to acquaint himself with British culture. Of course, considering his parentage and upbringing, he has had quite a few ideas on how British society worked, but being there in person still shook him to the core. It was very... very different from Japan. The people were more loud and intrusive than what he was used to back home. So much so that he wanted to go back almost immediately. The only thing that held him back from doing so, was the fact that he was going to finally live with his dad. Permanently. Okay, maybe until he turned 18. But for now, he was here for his wand appointment! Yoji pushed the door open, letting himself inside first and held the door for his dad to come in. Immediately, Yoji's face lit up, his cheeks turning pink at the excitement of getting matched for a wand. While his eyes scanned the room, he let his dad push him towards the comfortable corner of the shop and sat in one of the seats available. "Touchan, when is my turn?" Yoji asked in a whisper, deathly afraid to disturb those who were already in the store. Jace kept his son in sight, as he too trod the busy street of Diagon Alley. Indeed it was different from Japan, but he thought the difference in the environment would be of great help to Yoji so he could settle in faster. Mahiro did put up a fight one last time, and Yoji's departure from Japan had been delayed for months, and that has kept Jace from updating Matt in a timely manner. The guy will unalive him proverbially, but if Matt was as perceptive as Jace had hoped, his auror best friend would understand. Equally relieved to be back in the UK and in the relative safety of Diagon Alley, he sighed and joined Yoji inside Ollivander's directing him quickly to the corner so as not to be in the way of those who were coming out. He too had the same sense of excitement and wonder when he first got matched with his wand, and in hindsight, he was still in awe of it all-- not because he was getting re-matched for a second wand, but because life has somewhat come full-circle for him. Not in his wildest dreams did he think he'd one day bring his own child and watch them get their first wand. Jace smiled at Yoji and poured himself a cup of tea that was made available for them, and started to relax in his chair. "Soon, they will call you when it's your turn." Jace brought the teacup to his lips and took a sip. He then looked out the window behind him, and through the door to the other side to see any semblance of Matt's form. "Your uncle Matt is running late," he remarked. "And it's my fault. Be ready to hear an earful from him." he continued giving Yoji a wink. |

Needless to say the Auror was THEN AGAIN, it was all very strange because that wasn't really the Jace he knew from school. Weird, all very weird. Matt had wondered if it had anything to do with his job, but STILL, if anyone could use their job as an excuse to avoid friendships was Matt himself, and yet here he was, being a normal human being willing to make connections. ANYHOW. As previously mentioned, Matt was DECADES, perhaps. Who really knew anymore? LOOK. It was him. The man himself. Sitting there at Ollivanders, just chilling The former Gryffindor marched into the shop and stood there, fists on hips, feet shoulder-width apart, like a super hero, eyes upon his fRiEnD. He opened his mouth to say something when he spotted him. The other him. The... kid himself(?). Whoa. Whoa. Whoooooooaaaaaaaaa. It was like Matt was momentarily transported to the past. Their first year, more specifically. Mini-Jace was standing there, waiting for his turn to get a wand. Holy moly. Closing his mouth, the Auror He looked into the kiddo's eyes for a moment and, honestly, that made him quite emotional. He let out a sort chuckle before shaking his head and looking up at his friend. "Mate..." Matt finally said, getting up and holding his hand out for Jace. Not waiting for all the politey-arm's-length-politeness of the former Ravenclaw, he pulled his |
SPOILER!!: Matt and his Meriwether dramatic gene Both father and son were enjoying their shared comfortable silence, watching the other children get matched when all of a sudden, Matt burst through the doors of Ollivander's in his true, loud, dramatic Meriwether fashion. Jace almost choked on his tea when this happened, but he quickly placed his teacup and saucer down, propping both hands on his seat's armrest, ready to tackle him if necessary. However... surprisingly, that wasn't the case. Without a word, Matt had completely ignored him, which was totally understandable, but he couldn't help but be on edge as the Auror approached his son, who, at this point was petrified, shocked by the sudden appearance of this rather strange man. While Jace's mind raced, he stood up and opened his mouth ready to give his own apology about the lack of owl replies, the absence of critical updates... even the existence of the child before him. Certainly, as an Auror, Matt would've pieced together something serious that was going on from the limited owls he had sent him over the past decade and a year, but Jace knew he ultimately, although unintentionally, hurt his friendship with his best mate. He was ready to make amends, even if they were not in the best place to do so. "Matt, I--" but before he could even start, he was pulled into a hug that he didn't know he needed. Jace didn't realize the weight he'd been carrying all these years, but he slowly found release with the fact that he no longer has to hide things. Petrified probably was probably the right word to describe Yoji at the moment, considering that he'd planned on putting his best behaviour forward as soon as his dad's best mate arrived. However, the way this strange man entered the establishment was nothing he'd seen in Japan, and this was all very, very shocking. He nervously eyed him, his dad, and the store owner who was busy matching and selling wands, but he didn't seem to be bothered at all. Like... this was the norm. What was it that his dad always told him about this particular crowd? There are all sorts of people in the West... Eyes big as saucers now, Yoji watched in fear as the strange man knelt before him and stared as if he was trying to get into his head. He blinked, his throat dry from the sudden shift of energy in the air. Yoji's mind suddenly went blank, completely forgetting everything, including his basic manners. When the man turned to his dad and gave him a hug, the 11-year-old almost jumped out of his seat, realizing who it was. It was THE Uncle Matt! He straightened out his shirt, feet together, his arms stuck to his sides, and gave his most respectable bow. "O-Ohayo, Matthew-san." Yoji could feel the blood rise to his cheeks in embarrassment, as he failed to realize who this man was! |
for Laura & Reuben :3 Sheeeeeeeeeesh. While Ollivanders was usually always a hot spot in the summer, this year just felt obscene and it was irritating Sage for no real reason in particular. Sure, dad was ridiculously busy and therefore had not had time to implement all her suggestions for rearranging and organizing the shop so it was more hip and accessible to the current day witch and wizard rather than old people...but she wasn't fussed about that. Not at all. What had happened 11 years ago to create such a baby boom? Maybe she should have paid a little closer attention in History of Magic to know this information. Oh well. Sucking on a lollipop, the |

No one was too busy or too excited for him, ever. Especially not the person he was here to see. At least, he hoped they weren't. He'd not really thought about the prospect that they wouldn't want to see him when he'd headed this way, so he shoved that thought away now as he rounded the shelves and spotted the girl in question. "You should really get out more," he said, mock serious, as he leaned against a shelf opposite Sage - and then, just as quickly as if he'd stepped on a lego, jumped back as things wobbled a little. |
For Faith & Zoryn Sloane heaved the door open, flung herself inside and closed the door quickly, only stopping for a moment to catch her breath. Leaning against the door, she couldn’t help but wonder if she’d actually be in trouble for running away from Faith and Zoryn. Taking in her surroundings for the first time properly, she couldn’t help but focus on the most insignificant of details as she tried to take a mental picture of it all. Not because she was looking at anything spectacular but because, for an eleven-year-old, this dusty, old shop was everything. It was her chance to actually get a wand! Her own wand too and not one she’d borrowed from her brother, Mika. And more importantly, it was her chance to escape everything and go to Hogwarts! Everything she’d been told about the school from the secret passage ways to the ghosts, moving staircases and the lessons themselves sound unfathomable, as though it had been concocted from the deepest parts of her imagination. Sidestepping several families, she took several hesitant steps away from the door and moved further into the shop towards the glass display of wands. Her eyes wandered from wand to wand, unsure exactly what was so special about each of them, other than the fact they belonged to a bunch of old wizards. Briefly, it did cross her mind that borrowing a famous wand would be such a cool story to tell her siblings at Hogwarts, but all in all, this seemed like a bigger deal than pocketing an expensive quill |

"Are you trying to imply I'm antisocial?" she smiled in reply as she picked up a mustard yellow wand holster and turned it over in her hands. "Shame, you would have done me a favor in knocking that over. Could have had the excuse to rearrange things more efficiently." Since dad had not yet gotten around to taking her organizational advice. "Just because you're my friend doesn't mean you'll be getting an special Ollivanders discounts, just so we're clear. Though I just saw an excessive delivery of wand polishes I might be able to work dad for if you're in need." Okay, maybe she did need to get out a bit more. There were some new waterpipes installed along some of the buildings that she had been meaning to test the durability of. |
SPOILER!!: our runner Remind her again why they put up with this? The running was excessive, not to mention unnecessary. It wasn't doing anything for Sloane, who would need Zor and Faith present to buy her wand. And it wasn't doing anything for Zor, who literally did not give a flying fwooper about keeping her on a leash. If she wanted to run, then so be it. She could wait for Zorth to arrive at their own, leisurely pace. It wasn't every day that they lived the nostalgia of back-to-school shopping together. And while Zor wasn't the sentimental type, it made her wife happy, so it made her happy too. In other words: They would be taking their sweet time and Sloane would learn the sweet lesson of patience. Something that Zoryn, ironically, did not have much of herself. "She knows we need to be there to hand over the galleons, right?" Once they arrived at the wand shop (which they did after walking SLOWLY - Zoryn had made sure of it) Z opened the door for her wife and stepped in after, setting a hand on Sloane's shoulder. Hey, kid. Miss us? "Looking a little sweaty, Sloane," she noted with a hidden, knowing smile. Look. Zor knew she was ANCIENT now, but she used to be a kid once. She remembered how it was. So embarrassing to be seen with adults. That's why she was going to make it her mission to be as embarrassing as possible. Right of passage and all. |

Discounts? Huh? Reuben frowned for a moment and then shook his head. "Nah, I don't need anything anyway, don't you worry," he said, his smile bright once again. "Do people actually polish their wands?" He didn't even have his on him to check the shininess level. What was the point when he wasn't allowed to use it? |

Dad kept a tight inventory list so...Reuben was going to be out of luck if he thought he might get some freebies. Holding her hand up, palm so close to his face it brushed against the tip of his nose, she gave him a very serious look. Wand care was serious business. "Before I offer commentary on the importance of wand care and specifically polishing...one a scale of 1 to 10 how much do you actually care?" |
Quote:
"You tell me," Sage," he offered with a grin. It hadn't occurred to him that he should be the one naming the price - it was a saying he'd heard and didn't fully understand. But now he thought that Sage would name a price, he'd agree to it, and then he'd knock things off the shelves! When she held up her palm like that, Reuben's eyes went all cross and squinty as he tried to focus on it. Was she going to hit him with it? Why was it by his nose? It was hard to concentrate on both her hand and what she was saying, but he just about got it. "Like, negative three?" |

Her mild irritation gave way to confusion next, it now abundantly apparent that he had never made deals or placed bets with anyone before. She would feel a little embarrassed for him if this wasn't in her favor. "A hug?" Harmless, quick, and an agreement between friends. Sage lowered her hand and resisted rolling her eyes again in favor of a heavy sigh of disappointment. She really enjoyed talking about wands, polishes, and the importance of making sure your wand was thoroughly polished. "Fine, I won't waste my energy then if the knowledge is just going to fall on deaf an unappreciative ears," she lamented. "Which is really a shame because it could save your life someday and also keep the pores on your wand from clogging and backfiring to it explodes right in your hands and face." |

Sighing rather loudly, she let out a loud “Fiiiinally!” before hurriedly waking forward and grabbing Zoryn’s hand, she led her away from Faith, straight to the display case, not bothering to greet either of them. Not because she was being rude but because she simply needed to show one of them some of the wands on display and Zoryn was closer. The wands were so old and cool, somewhat like her new “What do you mean, I look sweaty?” her eyes now on the display case, looking for the wand she wanted to point out to her before they moved to the counter to hopefully get her a wand. Squinting, she leaned closer to the display, her eyes quickly moving from wand to wand, trying to find the really, really cool old one that was on display that she simply loved the look of. Finally, after a minute of murmuring, she turned towards Zoryn and jabbed her finger at the case, a little too haphazardly, but nothing fell so… “Look! There! Do you think I could get one like that one,” she gestured, her finger pointing towards one of the wands made of acacia. “I don’t really know if I get to choose or…do you choose for me?,” her grey eyes moving back to Zoryn. For the briefest of moments, all of the guards that she’d built since she was old enough to hide how she was feeling had dropped, leaving her with an expression somewhere between childlike innocence and excitement. This only lasted for the briefest of moments however as she turned away, not wanting to look at her guardian. Feeling all sorts of embarrassed and ashamed, she admitted under her breath “No one told me how I get a wand or nothing like that.” She should have asked Mika or one of her older siblings about it, but never had! Why hadn’t she asked him before? Trying her best to cover it up, she dropped Zoryn’s hand and focused on the wands, leaning in closely to examine one of the acacia wands closer to hide her face. |
SPOILER!!: the youth Sloane was only able to drag Zor away from Faith because Zoryn had let her do so. Though she is little, she is mighty and Sloane wouldn't have stood a chance otherwise. "It means you have an adorable sweat mustache above your lips," she replied matter-of-factly. But this is all she said as Sloane looked over the wands on display with wonder and awe. Okay, yeah. It was kind of sweet or whatever. It almost brought Zor back to her own wand-fitting. Almost. She wasn't sentimental, that was her WIFE. Ahem. "Only if--" she started, halting quickly when she noticed the embarrassment in the girl's eyes. Damn. Zoryn reaaaaaally wanted to tease. But the Faith-sounding voice in her head kept her from doing so. And instead, she nudged the girl and offered an encouraging sort of look. Or whatever. "You could have a wand like this, yeah. It'll have to choose you though. The wand finds the wizard." She explained, far more gently than Zor was ever used to. "You'll walk up, and they'll take measurements or whatever," she wouldn't go into detail because a) that was the boring part and b) it'd be funny to see how Sloane reacted to the flying measuring tape. "They'll give you some wands to try out, but most of them will be total duds. And you might make a cabinet or two explode before the right one finds you -- that's the best part." Destroying a century old shop. Ah. The joy it brought her. |

She had a What? Sloane quickly clawed at her face quickly to get rid of the sweaty moustache, only to realise that it must have already dried. The scowl across her face was brief and fleeting but it portrayed the right amount of contempt. Anyway... Not knowing too much about how she was actually going to get a wand, Sloane turned, her expression betraying her interest as her face lit up with excitement. "But how does a wand find a wizard? Did yours find you? What happened? How did it find you?" the questions flowing from her one after another quickly now as she got more and more excited. Very un-Sloane like. Just as quick however, Zoryn answered some of her questions and this left her even more excited! [B]"You what?! No way..."[B] Zoryn was not cool enough to blow a cabinet explode, was she? Eying her suspiciously, she continued “Are you lying to me? That doesn’t sound like it would be allowed. You’d be like, thrown out before you even started Hogwarts.” Neither Faith or Zoryn had mentioned anything about being thrown out of Hogwarts when they’d talked about the school before however so maybe they hadn’t thrown her out for it. Unsure of what exactly she should do next, Sloane turned towards the counter and hesitated for a moment, unsure if she wanted to go alone or with Zoryn. “I can just walk up and they’ll measure me. That’s it?” She wasn’t nervous. Of course not! She just needed…confirmation of her theory, that’s all. |
Rafael was a mess. It would have been helpful to have his husband here for moral support {for himself, not their son} but he understood that Dash was very busy currently. Diego understood too. Of course he did; that little guy was too wonderful not to. Then again, the eleven year old wasn’t that little anymore, not when he was about to secure his very first {and hopefully only} wand. Rafa sat heavily on one of the chairs, his gaze fixed on Diego who was being attended to by that tape. He recognised the look on the youngest Melo-Dreamer - a look that meant that Diego was resisting the urge to giggle. Excuse Rafa while he got misty eyed over seeing Di continuously happy and over the fact that he was growing up too quickly. “It’s not,’’ Vi reassured, grinning at the look on his bestie’s face. He decided not to remind Di that last year when he had gotten his own wand, he had accidentally caused an explosion and thick smoke when he had given the first one a wave. There was no need to make Di nervous or anxious, which was something Vi was aiming to protect the other guy from as he got started on his Hogwarts journey. “Watch out for that tape. It tries to measure some weird places.” Vi was always highly sus of the thing. “I’m just gonna head over there with your day. You got this, Di.” He patted his friend on the shoulder then headed over to Rafael. “Er… Mr. Melo-Dreamer?” Vi felt an inward burst of panic. Was the man going to end up sobbing on his shoulder or something? “You okay? You need a tissue?” |
