| | Coffee Room
The Coffee Room, which also doubles as a break room for the harassed staff of the Daily Prophet, is in desperate need of a makeover. The door, when opened into the room, takes up half the room and the sofa takes up the other half. A shiny, brand-spanking new coffee machine looks out of place resting on a dilapidated filing cabinet. If you're looking for sugar or milk to add taste to the only decent beverage in the room coffee, you should probably look elsewhere or bring it in with you. The editor really prefers his coffee plain black, anyway, so no frilly coffee creamers or sugary add-ins will be found here.
Attempts to gossip about the superiors are sadly hindered as it becomes glaringly obvious that the wall between the coffee room and the Managing Editor's office is paper thin. Daily Prophet staff for decades have come to the not incorrect conclusion that the state of their coffee room is such because of the executive officers' desire to keep them working all day and not slacking off. Though if you were to slack off, the best place to do it might be that couch... rumor has it that if you can survive the springs poking out of it and the possible infestation of bunidmuns, it makes for a half-decent nap spot.
Perhaps the most ironic thing in the room is a small framed embroidered piece on the pockmarked wall (an attempt by a long gone staff member to cheer the place up) which said, "The true way to render ourselves happy is to love our work and find in it our pleasure." You are here. |

Daphne nodded as she sipped the terrible coffee. "It is absolutely horrendous, isn't it?" she stated, contorting her face with disgust. "I supposed I'd been away too long. Next time I'll remember to bring some decent coffee with me. Pity though, having it here would be so convenient..."
With a final gulp, Daphne finished off the sludge. "I'm not sure this is worth a protest," she pondered aloud, considering her coworker's suggestion.

"That Hoshino is loaded," she turned and addressed the small prim woman and the drowned rat. "I don't get why he can't afford decent coffee for his overworked staff. Someone should stage a sit-in. On his desk." Egypt looked up as someone started speaking to her. It was horrible coffee as she found out her first day a few months ago. And that was why she made a point of avoiding it. "Well I can bring in some better coffee. I don't think we need to stage a protest after all." she pointed out. "We might need that protest for something important." Like vacation time or something. She could afford to bring in some excellent coffee for the office. Quote:

There were better things to storm the editor's office about. And if they only got one shot she didn't want to waste it on coffee when that was a easy remedy. "And maybe some muffins or danishes or something. There is a lovely little shop by the Ministry. I'm sure we can work something out with them in exchange for a few plugs in the Prophet." That would work out nicely as they had wonderful pastries in there.

Oh, sigh. Spoilsports. Hunter grinned and gave a half-shrug. "I just like to give Hoshino a hard time, to be honest. Want to remind him that he gave from the dregs of publishing just like the rest of us." It was possible Hunter held onto things too long. Possible.
"Where've you been, Egypt? We could have been enjoying good coffee and baked goods all this time."

"Where've you been, Egypt? We could have been enjoying good coffee and baked goods all this time." She smiled. "Well I am sure he has other people that enjoy ruining his day without us adding to it," she told her. She certainly didn't want to get into anything with that man. Egypt didn't like to dislike someone but Hoshino was making a good bid for Egypt's dislike.
Her light mood was marred by the question. "Well I had a stillborn, and I just..." she took a deep breath to keep herself from crying. "The family just needed time to heal." she told trying to keep the smile on her face, but Egypt was never good at hiding her emotions. "How have you been?" she needed to worry about someone else to keep her emotions in check. The last thing she wanted to do was to start crying in the DP offices. She wasn't sure Hoshino wouldn't chuck her out. And she just didn't have the shoes on for that.

"Well." Hunter had very firm lines between personal and professional life, and she liked it that way. But considering the very vulnerable look on Egypt's face at the moment... she could probably dredge up something to share.
Something about her brother Tolliver, the great and lovely waste of space? No. No one cared about him. Something about her social life, sad though it was at the moment. "I was sort of seeing someone. But then he got engaged to someone else. And then he disappeared completely." Way to be nonspecific and vague, Bones.

Even though Egypt hadn't know Hunter very long before she took a leave of absence Hunter was much like Egypt's mother, and Egypt wasn't sure Hunter would appreciate being compared to her mother.
POOF!
Problem forgotten. Egypt was the premiere champion of love and she hated when it went awry. "Oh my goodness." She gave her a very sympathetic look. She didn't know if Hunter wanted to get into anything the office was very standoffish, but Egypt couldn't help herself. "Well its better to get someone like that out of your life so you can move on." she said gently. It was important to cry, but then you have to pick yourself up and get back into the thick of things. "Why Alexa and Warren's wedding is coming up that would be a perfect place for you to meet someone." She told her perking up at the thought of making another match. Nicoli was still single and Egypt had been telling him for years it was high time he settled down and let a woman take care of him. Though Hunter didn't look like the nesting type. But the love of a good man could change any woman.

The trouble was... Hunter hadn't ever been very serious about Pepe in the first place. It just stung that she'd been keen to avoid dating a man who was involved with someone else and had managed to find one with a fiancee tucked away somewhere. She didn't like that at all. She wasn't that sort.
"I'm not very good at meeting people, I'm afraid. Always the wrong sort of chaps," Hunter wrinkled her nose at the suggestion, although she thought it was charming that Egypt was thinking of her. "I think the right sorts fear introducing me to their mothers."
She tilted her head in the direction of the new woman. "Hunter Bones. Reporter. I like the bedhead, actually. I'm pretty sure when I was working at TeenWitch, they did a whole feature on it."

Calendula skipped into the coffee room, hoping to smell the deep aroma of her beloved coffee. She gasped as she turned the corner and basically skipped into another young woman. "Oh, Im sorry!" Calendula said hurriedly. She calmed down a bit and smiled at the woman. "Im Calendula, new employee for the lifestyle section." she said, holding out her hand and beaming at her.

Egypt had everything in her pocketbook, though it was expanded to keep a few other things handy. With 7 children you never knew what to expect. "I'm Egypt Greenwood, Nathan's better half," she smiled. Quote:

"You could be right," Hunter flashed said smile for a moment. "Or I could be working very hard at out performing my brother in disappointing my mother. Either way, it's a poor excuse for a life half-lived."
Was it sort of odd to find comforting in being mothered by a co-worker? She didn't lack for positive female role models in her life, but Hunter pushed so hard to be her own person that she didn't often leave people room to mother her. Maybe she'd let Egypt do it.
You know... for Egypt's sake.

You know... for Egypt's sake. Egypt giggled at Hunter's joke. "Seems like the Lifestyle section is a powerhouse of talent. I'm Egypt Greenwood in the News section." she told the new arrival.
She had her share of mother issues as well. "Just like our parents have to eventually let us go sometimes we have to let our parents go and be the person we want to be," she told her gently. There was no point in trying to live your life because of or in spite of your parents.
Egypt would have to keep an eye on Hunter she seemed to be wanting someone to look out for her but she didn't want someone to look out for her. Everyone needed someone every now and then and Egypt would be that person if Hunter wanted her to be.

And she did not like to deal with ignorance. Which was the reason why she barely entered the coffee room. She wasn't calling her co-workers ignorant though...it was just...they were people.
Walking into the room quietly she noticed that quite it was full, the new staff probably was the reason for this. Pouring herself a cup of black coffee (the best kind duh!) she sat down at an empty table. Lyric had her coffee, so she was good.

"Calendula Dubuoi (Due Boy), pleased to meet you." Calendula replied happily as she took her wand out and muttered the incantation that produces insta-coffee. "Mmmmm." she said to herself as she breathed it in, while adding coffee creamer to it. Her hands wrapped around the cup and she sighed as she took a sip, savoring the sweet taste. "Anyone want some?" she asked, producing a coffee pitcher and her insta-coffee.

Her eyes light up at the thought. "Oh well if you need a shopping buddy I would be happy to go." she told her happily. One could say it was almost an addiction with Egypt and shopping. Good thing she had the money to do it. "One can never have too many pocketbooks, or shoes or clothes." That was just a matter of principle. "Oh thank you. My mother has this thing with naming her children after places. I mean I have a sister named Ireland for Merlin's sake," although she couldn't say anything. She had named her first child Paris. James was still confused. Sienna hadn't explained anything at all. Zilch. Zero. Nil. Nul. Nup. Nothing. Grrr. Walking out of her office, he made his way toward the messy haphazard desks when he saw through the door a lot of women in a closed off room drinking coffee. COFFEE? James was there.
Walking in smoothly, he came to the centre of the room and smiled. "Hello, I'm James Parker. A pleasure to meet you." Oh yes it was.

James eyes bee-lined towards the woman that had spoken. "Calendula.." James murmured curiously. "What a unique name.. where do you come from?" The surname was french.. but Calendula was a little too contemporary to place. Shaking her hand, he produced a smile in acknowledgement and let go of her hand when the greeting was over. "Coffee?" He asked, wondering why she was acting so unusual - not that he could really guess what was usual and unusual for a stranger he'd just met. "I would love some, thank-you," He replied warmly and frowned. "In what section do you work?" |

She had learned how to hide her accent at a very young age, something that confused her father. "Life style section." Calendula answered as she handed him a cup of coffee. "What about you?"

James frowned confused, "Did you live there for very long?" Her accent was either well hid or she'd grown up somewhere else and lost the dialect. James was too much of a parroter to retain a true british tone - he sounded a little of everything. "Fascinating.. what do you write about there?" Things in this newspaper were so different than in a muggle magazine. "I'm in the News section myself.. just got hired actually. It's a little more than daunting," He told her honestly as he took the mug from her murmuring a thank-you. "So what's it like here? I've only met the managing editor and she seems a little frazzled." James didn't hasten to add that he felt she was in a constant state of agitation. He still didn't know who Rico was.

Calendula cleared her throat and spoke naturally as to when she uses her full on french accent. "Vous voyez?" she asked, smiling wide at him. "That means 'you see'." Calendula added before he could question what she had said. "Umm, I would actually know, considering that I too had been hired recently." she said, thinking about what the life style section actually wrote about, to which she turned up empty handed.

Walking in smoothly, he came to the centre of the room and smiled. "Hello, I'm James Parker. A pleasure to meet you." Oh yes it was. Her eyes were drawn to the arrival of another DP employee who happened to be a man. "Well its nice to see a male face around here," she teased. There were more girls in the DP than Egypt had in her family. And that was saying something. "Welcome James, I'm Egypt Greenwood," she smiled at him. He was a cocky little thing walking right into the middle of the room to introduce himself. Egypt liked that. "Are you always this bold?" Maybe they could get him to go talk to Ian about the state of the coffee in the room. Quote:

WOAH! Calendula nearly leaped out of her seat as someone unexpectedly walked in. Her eyes moved from side to side, to see if anyone had noticed her weird behavior. Yes, Calendula did get scared easily. Not one to play tricks on though, because if the trick was considering too frightening to her, ... well you would want that to happen. "Calendula Dubuoi." Calendula said, holding out her hand to him as she regrettably let go of her coffee. "Would you like some?" she asked, trying her best to be casual. Egypt nodded. "My oldest daughter works for the French Ministry." And Egypt loved France. She had named her daughter after its most famous city for Merlin's sake. "I believe I may know a few of your relatives." She did know a few Dubuois' from France though she didn't know if they really were related to her new co-worker.

"I may just take you up on that offer. I've only been in the country for about two weeks so I still get lost going to places I've been about ten times in the past two weeks!" Loreali took a sip of water and shrugged. "No you can't. I enjoy shopping. I just haven't been able to find any great places around here. Then again I grew up on a beach so the primary things in my closet are shorts and flip flops. I'm still trying to get used to the idea of wearing pants most of the time!" It was definitely going to be different here for Loreali. Going from a warm climate to this much colder one was going to be a challenge indeed. She didn't come prepared with proper clothes. She had only visited England once and that was when she was very young so how was she supposed to know that it rained often!?
