| | Coffee Room
The Coffee Room, which also doubles as a break room for the harassed staff of the Daily Prophet, is in desperate need of a makeover. The door, when opened into the room, takes up half the room and the sofa takes up the other half. A shiny, brand-spanking new coffee machine looks out of place resting on a dilapidated filing cabinet. If you're looking for sugar or milk to add taste to the only decent beverage in the room coffee, you should probably look elsewhere or bring it in with you. The editor really prefers his coffee plain black, anyway, so no frilly coffee creamers or sugary add-ins will be found here.
Attempts to gossip about the superiors are sadly hindered as it becomes glaringly obvious that the wall between the coffee room and the Managing Editor's office is paper thin. Daily Prophet staff for decades have come to the not incorrect conclusion that the state of their coffee room is such because of the executive officers' desire to keep them working all day and not slacking off. Though if you were to slack off, the best place to do it might be that couch... rumor has it that if you can survive the springs poking out of it and the possible infestation of bunidmuns, it makes for a half-decent nap spot.
Perhaps the most ironic thing in the room is a small framed embroidered piece on the pockmarked wall (an attempt by a long gone staff member to cheer the place up) which said, "The true way to render ourselves happy is to love our work and find in it our pleasure." You are here. |

"Your timing is impeccable, Sienna," Mona said, greeting to the section editor. "I don't know how you do it, but it's admirable." She addressed the room at large. "Sienna here always manages to miss Getti. Watch her closely."
"Don't slouch, Ian," Mona called after him. "It's unbecoming and unflattering. And break from what? It's not even noon." She couldn't resist teasing him; he asked for it, she thought. She couldn't stop a sly grin from sliding across her face. She strode across the room and leaned into the entrance of the breakroom. "And we both know you don't plan on drinking the coffee in there. No one does. Are you going out to get yours?" she asked nonchalantly.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Tahir Kovac Khatri First Year | Ama!Nabs IS NAMED MINHO & Is SO Black Panther Right Now "I don't slouch," he protested in a low voice, one large hand on the back of his neck, massaging the skin there rather forcefully as he pursed his lips in thought in Mona's general direction. "Much." Glancing over his shoulder as her shadow hung over the threshold of the break room's door, Ian resisted the urge to swat her away from his safe place.
Total invasion of privacy.
"Well," he drawled, leaning back as he fiddled with the empty (and dirty) coffee pot to glance around Quigley's form at the nearly empty work area. "I don't think there's much work for me to do right now." It was his motto--not to work unless Getti inadvertently called him Mona and asked about the advertisement contracts.
Sorrowfully, he grunted at Mona's last comment, as he eyed the jar of cheap coffee grinds. He wouldn't even feed his dog this brand. That is, if he had a dog. "I'm a photojournalist," quipped Ian tapping the I.D. attached to the front of his navy robes. I'm not your coffee boy, Mona. You can get the newbies to do that for you! You have no respect for me or my work or for what I stand for! You're insolent and unappreciative! I ought to-- "One sugar, heavy on the milk and a hazelnut, milk four sugars?"
Ian nearly sighed at the end of that sentence but he was pathetic enough without the sound effects. Inwardly, he kicked himself on the rear. Playing with dimensional distortions was so much better than fetching caffeine for his female superiors. |

Mona clasped her hands together. "Would you? I would really appreciate iiitttt," she replied, batting her eyelashes slowly. "I've got to get this meeting ready, break in the new kids and slowly break them down until they're near tears, and then get them used to being on the brink of a mental breakdown. Same old." She sighed. "Getti would appreciate it too. Deep down. If she didn't know you got it...we just won't tell her. She won't ask anyway." She stopped herself, as she often did, from ruffling his hair or cuffing him playfully on the shoulder. She settled for a wink. "Thank youuu."

"As always" she said, a bit smugly, "I don't know if admirable...I think it's mostly luck" she shrugged, though, Mona was a bit right, though.
It's not like she feared Getti, but it was better not to be in her way. A happy Editor makes happy editions. And the Prophet certainly needed the sales. Speaking of which, she should be selling those ads soon enough.
But the words, 'Watch her closely', weren't much of her liking. However, why wouldn't they watch her? She did her job very good, and Getti had only seen her...how many times?...like five?
And, seriously? Ian was taking a break? He was more likely taking a break from not being the center of attention. But Sienna wasn't going to pay attention to this. She got her bottled water out of her brand-new bag and started to scribble something on a piece of parchment, back in her desk. |

Ian thought of himself, even as he averted his eyes from his Boss' twinkling ones, nervously putting the coffee pot in its proper place on the coffee maker and right back out. Mental breakdown was where Hoshino was headed soon enough. "That Woman..." he began and took a deep breath, flaring his nostrils as he took out the filter of the coffee machine, glaring down at the weeks old coffee grinds.
They were so old that even as he tipped the compartment over the trash bin, the stiffened grinds refused to budge. Annoyingly, he banged them against the inside of the bin.
BANG. She's evil. BANG. Sadistic. BANG BANG. Cold and inhuman. BANG BANG BANG. And undeniably a smoking bomb of hotness. BANGBANGBANGBANG!
Irritated to the point that the annoyance he felt was brimming out of his body and oozing on the floor in a show of his obvious lack of self control. "Your welcome." Pathetic. |

Bunbury-Foster Slytherin Fifth Year | Professor Pink | Mrs. Bruce Wayne | I'm on a Goat | Glitterpuff | Dumbledore's Defense Squad | BHB Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, la la la, that's all, Rico mimicked the bosses in his head. He was alert...enough. It wasn't like there was much to see in this dismal office anyways.
Speaking of which....oh Merlin no. No no no no no no no no no.
He stopped dead in his tracks at the sight of this...this abomination, which one could hardly call a break room, much less a coffee room. It was about the size of linen closet and already crowded with just three people in the room. Rico turned on his heel and nearly walked out - nearly being the key word here. The sight of another coworker - the snobbish one - attacking the coffeepot really didn't help his impression of this place.
Alas, there was a couch in the room, and that held a lot of appeal for Rico. He decided to just sit there and watch the man attacking that pot. Yep, he could test out the napability of the furniture before the meeting started....as long as he didn't snore and the bosses didn't catch him again. Rico stretched out on the couch and propped his feet up on one end, waiting for either the coffee to be done or for that man there to break the pot. Maybe, if he was smart, he would shatter the pot on Getti's head....heehehh. The evilness of those two women was wearing off on Rico already.

Tristan entered the coffe room and stopped having just taken one step inside. Pursing his lips, he scanned the room and the people inside. He looked over at Ian, standing there with what seemed to be the coffepot, and tried not to grimace at the sight. His eyes turned to the two women inside, just simply confused why anyone would actually be in this room.
With one simple look at the other guy who just entered, he decided he did not want to be in here more han necessary. "Um..." he mumbled and turned around on the spot, walking back out to the desk area.
Making a face like he'd just bitten into a lemon, he walked away hoping to remember bring some tea with him the next day.

Mona gave Ian an impish grin. "Leave that for the maintenance guys, dearest," she said. "It's a waste of your precious time." She tucked a wayward lock of hair behind her ear. "Don't take it out on the terrible, innocent coffee."
She straightened up. "I, personally, would not object to several scones. No pressure."
Mona eyed Enrico, stretched out a little too comfortably on the couch (which was certainly infected with something; what, she hadn't determined, and didn't plan on it). "Don't you get too comfortable. Especially on that thing," she added cryptically.
"What's the matter, Chri--Tristan? Too small? Crowded? Et cetera et cetera?"

By newblets none the less.
Shuddering as he stepped aside, bumping into Mona's shoulder, to allow whats-his-face room to launch himself on the sofa, Hoshino gritted his teeth. "Scones, gotcha," muttered Ian as pleasantly as possible. In the distance, he could hear the ominous clicking of high heels. Must be That Woman. He attempted to smile amicably at Mona but failed terribly, his grimace making him appear scarier than usual. "I go now," finished the man, gently (or not so gently) pushing his Boss aside to step through the threshold. "I think she wants you, by the way." He could hear her now. Mona? Mona? Why is no one following me Mona? |

Mona closed her eyes briefly, and steeled herself for an hour, at least, of pain. She took a modicum of solace in the fact that she got to play with the newbies just as a cat plays with a mouse it has no intention of eating. Fun for her; painful, she imagined, for the mouse.
"Chop chop, dearies," she said, clapping her hands. "Staff meeting! Put your best foot forward."
She turned on her heel and click clacked across to the conference room.

Was something nibbling on his leg? Or was that the feeling of something scurrying across his back? The springs in this sofa certainly put his desk chair to shame but there was this...this uncomfortable itchy sensation that the couch brought too....it was most likely infested with some horrid cross-breed of a doxy and a bundimun....probably invented by Getti in her time off to torture potential nappers....erggggh.
Rico sat up when he thought he heard a few squeaks from the sofa's seam. Alright, that was that. He was going back to the squeaky, cushion-less desk chair and never sitting on this sofa again. Forget the coffee, he thought, shaking his head as he squeezed out of the little room, following Mona. After all, he had once survived that terribly long meeting with the Transportation department without any beverages. And so he would make do again.

Jordan walked into the coffee room. She had just finnished writing the first draft to her article and needed a break. She grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down on the sofa. So far the day had been pretty eventful. Especially that meeting, that crazy meeting.
She had still yet to meet her Section Editor. But she wasnt' really sure that she wanted to. She had already seen him in the meeting and that was something that she wouldnt' forget. All that she knew is he was going to be making this job alot more interesting.

Nathan, who had just got back from having a liquid lunch in the Leaky Cauldron, wandered into the not so spacious coffee room to get himself a hot drink before he settled at his desk for what he was sure, if the morning was anything to go by, was going to be a long and gruelling afternoon.
He gave the young girl in there a sheepish smile, unsure whether she was one of Getti and Mona's Mini Me's. “Hello love.” He said quietly; and then added to test the water a little. “Are you one of the new staff too?”
He took the two steps required to get to the loudly buzzing coffee maker, deciding to have tea this time around. He had already tried the coffee and wouldn't wish such an experience on his worst enemy. His eyes landed on the small piece of needlework on the wall as he set about making his drink. He grimaced inwardly as he read the ironic wording that had been carefully and lovingly stitched by hand.

Jordan watched as a man walked into the break room. He seemed quite a bit older than her, but then again wasn't everyone here. THat was the only thing she didn't like about this job, she was the youngest.
She looked over to the man, "Oh Hello" She said giving him a smile. "Yes, its my first day" She added. She figured that she should probably introduce herself seeing as how that would be the polite thing to do.
"I'm Jordan Paige" The young woman said to him. She figured that he had probably been working there a while, since he recognized her as new. She remembered him from the meeting, he was the married one. She couldn't remember his name though.

Nathan smiled at her in return. “Yeah.. me too.” He replied, resisting the temptation to make a face. “You just finished school, love?” He asked her pleasantly as he took in her appearance. She was all of a wee bairn by the looks of her.
He added his two sugars to his tea and stirred it noisily, subconsciously dropping the teaspoon next to the coffee maker for someone else to clean up. “Lovely to meet you Jordan. I'm Nathan.” He took a seat on the small sofa and sunk into it unexpectedly, shifting his position he found a spring poking into his back. Was he in hell? Really... what had Nathan done to deserve this? All he wanted in life was to be happy and... comfortable. It seemed he was going to find neither of these things working here.
He made a face deciding that it would be better to stand, rather than be eaten by the uncomfortable, spring ridden sofa.

Jordan could tell that the man was noticing her age. She had figured out that that would be the thing that set her apart from everyone else here. She was by far the youngest, well excpet for one young editor but she was still about four years older. She knew that people were going to judge her on that, and she was going to show them they were wrong. "Yes" She told him with a smile. This man was probably a good twenty years older than her, give or take a few.
"Well its nice to meet you too Nathan" She noticed that he didn't excactly seem comfortable with the conditions of the room. It honestly wasnt what she had expected. She had expected the Daily Prophet to have better spaces than this, but then you didn't always get what you want.

It was nice to see ambitious youngens – no doubt she would do as well, if not better, than the older staff. Nathan's experience had been that the younger members of staff were less set in their ways ...and had brains like sponges so they took in new information quickly and kept it there. Nathan was told something important and it went one ear and straight out the other. - Not that he was old, of course - he was only 35 in years.. er.. and about twenty years younger than that in mental age. “So which section of the rag are you working for?” He asked her conversationally as he sipped at his tea.

Tristan walked inside the coffee room, he didn't have much to do, so he grabbed his book, The Alchemist - in portuguese, and decided to take a little break. "Hmmm..." the room didn't offer that much seating possibilities, and with no windows, well there was only one place to sit. The weird looking sofa.
He slowly sat down, hoping it wouldn't break under his wheight. After assesing that it was all ok, he leaned back and began to read.

Hogwarts RPG Name: November {Noe} Franze First Year | Brain Twin | MASTAH ASHURRII | Reisdent PokeNerd | Digifangirl It was at the encouragement of his friend Mozzie that Ollie ever applied to the Daily Prophet. Maybe she was just tired of him spending all his time in the Leaky Cauldron, sitting in a corner and painting, he figured. Oh sure, he kept out of the way, drank a steady stream of tea, ordered a continuous flow of biscuits, but perhaps that hadn't been enough? She had all but thrown him out on the streets, demanded that he not return until he made an attempt at a job.
Ohhh. Maybe that was the factor; he'd spent his last two years much like a bum. In keeping up with his bummy appearances, he even crashed with Nolan. He didn't even have his own house. Oh the failure, oh the shame, oh the disgust.
At least, with a job and a steady flow of money, now, he'd be able to move out of his friend's house and finally have his own place? His parents would be pleased - at least now they could speak freely of their only son and safely attest that he was no longer a failure. No longer would his family wear the shame of his bearing. No longer would his family be mortified of his appearance, of his lack of life.
It was sort of thrilling - knowing he'd be writing, a task he greatly loved, and be able to have that nice little byline.
Disgust curled his upper lip as he looked around the tiny, dingy little break room. This was all the Daily Prophet could afford? The most wide-read Prophet couldn't afford an expansion, a nicer couch - a paint job? His eyes swept the sad walls and he noted how much nicer the room would look if only cleaned up - perhaps a lovely scheme of cheddar yellow and citrusy orange, he noted? Alternating horizontal stripes would bring a liveliness to the room, a cheer.
He wasn't entirely certain he was keen on the coffee - the dismal surroundings sucked his desire out of him. His stomach, empty, churned sadly. |

Daphne made her way into the coffee room. She barely stayed awake during her meeting with the editors, and she needed some urgent caffeine. Eyes half close, she trudged over to the pot of coffee and poured it into her pink mug. She poured ample amounts of sugar and milk into her cup and took a seat at the table. She picked up a stray fashion magazine and gingerly sipped her morning drink.
She was startled to hear someone sitting near her. She had assumed she was all alone, and jumped as she heard a strange rumbling noise, presumably the other person's stomach. "Oh!" she gasped, almost spilling her coffee over her brand new lilac robes. "You frightened me, I didn't see you!" She looked at the man and after deciding she definitely hadn't seen him before, proceeded to introduce herself. "Daphne Jones," she said sweetly, getting up and extending her right hand. "I'm editor of the Sports section here." |

It was weird being back at the prophet. So much had changed and yet things were the same. Egypt breezed into the office looking positively excited to be at work. It was good to be back. She walked over to her desk and set her bag down on her desk. There was a layer of dust covering it. She would take care of that after she got something to drink. She ahd been running late and didn't have time to stop of and get her latte and muffin.
The same old stale coffee in the pot greeted Egypt when she walked into the coffee room. Egypt was making a point of avoiding that pot. Which she did. However she did want something to drink and she was sure there was a bottle of gillywater in the little fridge.

A drenched rat. That was the perfect way to describe Loreali's appearance on her first day at The Daily Prophet. She had made a wrong turn from her flat to Headquarters and it ended up raining as per usual that morning. Unfortunately Loreali forgot her umbrella in her flat because she woke up late that morning. Just the perfect way to start her first day, no? She performed a drying charm on herself and looked around the coffee room. It didn't look like the most pleasant place she had ever set foot in but it wasn't like it was hell on earth ya know? Shaking her head Loreali looked for some cream to go in her coffee but there was none to be found. Perfect. Just perfect. She would either have to stop at a coffee house in the morning before work or actually bring her own cream. How odd. She took her black coffee and sat down at a table, making a face of disgust after taking that first sip of straight black coffee. There was no way she could drink that. A mumbled "gross" came from her mouth as she got out a surfing magazine and sighed. Oh how she wanted to be on a surfboard at home just surfing her days away.

Egypt walked over to the table she was sitting at. "Rough day?" she asked gently. Maybe the girl was homeless and this was her first job? Or maybe her house was blown up, or there was a power outage and she got dressed in the dark. Either way the girl looked like she could use a friend.

Hunter slipped into the break room and gave the coffee pot a baleful look before refilling her water bottle at the spigot. The room was foul. Still foul. At least with Rico, you understood why, but Ian should make good coffee his top priority.
"That Hoshino is loaded," she turned and addressed the small prim woman and the drowned rat. "I don't get why he can't afford decent coffee for his overworked staff. Someone should stage a sit-in. On his desk."
