Morgan P. Nickles EraAll historical records pertaining to Ministry of Magic RPG under Minister for Magic, Morgan P. Nickles [IC January 2094 - December 2096; OOC October 2017 - October 2018]
Did this woman just snort? Charles fixed her with a piercing stare. "It's my job to know about these things." Who was this woman anyway? She seemed to be a cynical, prissy woman. Charles didn't much like her for looking down at him.
Oh, she was the transport head? Again, he bit back a suggestion that would likely end up with her walking away in a huff and shook her hand. "Charles Taylor, Ambassador-at-large and division head." Yes, so none of this rank stuff. It didn't work with him. He'd dined with Kings and Queens and had advised Ministers, a woman in heels didn't scare him, even if she WAS a department head. "There is really no need to make small talk if it is physically painful to be polite." Yes, he'd noticed her attitude toward his apology for HER mistake. Who even wore heels that high and expected to be balanced for the entirety of the day???
Lynley simply nodded. Right. His job. Mhmm. And it seemed he would be telling her job in just a minute. And his name. Charles Taylor. Important sounding name, that was.
Hmph.
HA. Lynley just laughed a little at his comment an brushed from hair from her forehead. "Small talk? No, no--" and she sat down, smirking the whole time, and raise an eyebrow. "I should get to know the people I work with. Even if you did trip me." HEHEHEHE. Wasn't this funny. Lynley was so amused right now.

Poor older fellow.
Lynley didn't MEAN any harm...not really.
His impassive expression didn't change even as she laughed and sat down without invitation. Charles just looked at the woman out of politeness. He didn't like the smirk she wore. Maybe she'd decided to slowly torture him. "You know my name. Surely that is enough for one as important as yourself." His tone was a little clipped. He had no patience for teenage mind games. He'd talk if she wanted to, but he would not be subject to school playground teasing.
Penelope had decided to just eat in the food court today instead of going out. There was going to be quite a few training sessions for the rest of the day, so it seemed best to grab a quick lunch. Not super quick, but at least not waste time wandering around Diagon Alley or the area outside the Ministry for places to eat. Getting something here wouldn't take as long.
So after ordering a chicken wrap, a salad, and a lemonade, she looked around for somewhere to sit...and spotted Olly not too far away. Seemed like a good place to sit, yeah? Assuming the other girl wouldn't mind some company for a bit.
"Hey, Olly," Penelope greeted her with a smile as she reached the table. "Mind if I sit here?"
After taking a sip of her water, Olly then moved on to trying the sandwich she'd gotten. And it was pretty good. Definitely edible and not half bad.
Also it was food so you know. So far the verdict for this food court was definitely-
"Oh." Olly swallowed, looking up to see Penelope standing by her table. "Hey." What a nice surprise. She wasn't exactly keen on meeting new people so it was definitely nice to have someone she already knew sit with her. Not that she really knew all that much about the other girl but she also had no reason not to like her. So Olly even offered her a smile.
"'course. Sit." She even used her foot to push the second chair out a little. Polite, huh? It came with the job. "So what did you get?" Food wise.

Lynley stayed the same. Calm, but smirky. "I...am just as important as yourself or anyone else. You must have the wrong impression of me, sir. I would be nothing without my inferiors."
That might have slipped out wrong, but...Lynley didn't think anything of it, and she DID feel like she needed her employees. They were fabulous, so far, yes. And all really well dressed, it was great. She wasn't passing judgement on Cooper juuuuust yet, but he wasn't terrible.
"But if you insist on eating your lunch in peace--I'd oblige, sir." She smirked, once more.

Oh good, Olly was alright with it. The food court wasn't completely full, so it wouldn't've been too big of a deal if she didn't want Penelope sitting with her. But having lunch with someone else was better than alone, yeah? This YATI thought so at least.
"Thanks." Her smile grew a little when Olly seemed to be pushing the other chair out too. Nice. Penelope grabbed the back of it to pull it the rest of the way to give herself room to sit, setting her tray on the table. "Got a Caesar salad and a grilled chicken wrap. S'pretty good." She hadn't taken a bite of either yet, but she'd had it a few times over the past couple years and it'd generally been good each time. "And lemonade. Not the exploding kind though." Not that she'd ever had the exploding kind...she needed to try it sometime. "What about you?"

Alright. Olly would have to remember that then. Maybe she could get that some other day. Grilled chicken wrap. Sounded good.
"This sandwich." She held it up a little. "And a fruit salad." Because they were trying to stay healthy and all that. Plus, Olly sort of liked it too so win-win. She took another bite of her sandwich and was quiet for a moment, chewing and looking around the food court. It was pretty big.
"So how long have you been working here then?" Up until the orientation she hadn't known that Penelope was working at the Ministry. Olly hadn't really been staying in touch with a lot of people to be honest. Only a select few. Not complaining though. It WAS by choice.

Ohh, that sounded like a good meal too. "Good choices. I really like the fruit salad." Penelope had had it a few times over the past couple of years, and she'd always thought it tasted pretty good.
She took a bite of her wrap and looked around the food court as well, just looking to see who else was there. Not that she knew everyone that worked here, but most faces got to be pretty familiar after a couple years, even if you only saw them in passing. Plus it was always good to know her surroundings.
"A couple years. This is my third one." And it was still a little strange to think it'd been that long already, that she'd already been in the program for that long. "Are you enjoying working here so far?"

Olly just smiled because really there was only so much you could say about fruit salad. Especially considering the fact that she hadn't actually tried it yet. It had just LOOKED good. So for now she simply went back to eating her sandwich, not really bothered by a few moments of silence.
Her THIRD year??
"Three years?" Olly gave her an impressed look. "You're in the Auror program, yeah?" That sounded really interesting. For people like Penelope of course. Not for herself. That one exercise during the orientation had been hard enough. "It's great." Yeah. "Lots of work but I like it." After everything she'd done to GET this job, she better like it too.

"The fact that you think of them as your inferiors speaks volumes to me." He adjusted his tie and attempted to keep his expression non-judgemental. "I insist on nothing, Miss." he replied calmly too, looking over her again. "What would you insist on?" Manners? Impeccable dress? Beautiful handwriting on the paperwork and good coffee in the breakroom?
Maybe this woman wasn't so bad after all. He did like freshly ground coffee and legible paperwork.

Seemed Olly also thought it was strange - or impressive? - that she'd been here so long already. Penelope nodded. "Yeah, I am. S'pretty great too." She enjoyed it at least. It was a lot of work, but it was stuff that interested her, so it didn't really feel as much like work as it could've otherwise.
Kinda like what Olly was talking about for her own. "That's good then. You're in the plants department, yeah?" She remembered that from the orientation, though she didn't remember what the other girl's specific job was.

An Auror, wow. That really WAS really impressive. "When are you going to be done?" With training that is. She finished her sandwich, watching Penelope with a small smile on her lips. It was nice that she already knew people here. No need to get close to her colleagues then. Not that she minded being alone. But other people might think she was weird if she didn't hang out with anyone. Ms. Quinn would probably think she was weird.
The plants department, yes. Olly nodded. "Environmental, yeah. Junior Botanist." She indicated herself with the end of her fork, reaching for the fruit salad now. "Plant things." That yes. It was her thing.

"This'll be my last year of training." And there was that tiny nagging thought that popped up every now and then that said that she'd fail. She was getting better at pushing it to the back of her mind, and she did that right then, but it was still a bit annoying. Why couldn't she just not have that fear at all?
She took a few bites of her salad, lost in thought for a moment, before turning her attention back to Olly as she talked about her job a bit too. "That's pretty cool." Not that it was a job Penelope would want, but it had to be cool in some way for Olly to like it, yeah? "What kinds of stuff do you do with the plants?" Assuming that was okay to share. It wasn't super secret classified stuff, was it?

Her LAST year. Wow. Then she'd be an Auror. Huh."What are you doing after?" Stay with Magical Law Enforcement, presumably. But there were probably Aurors working on their own time, too right? Not just as parts of MLE. Also she might be wanting to leave the country. Who knew. And Olly was curious.
Mhm. It was. And she still couldn't believe that she was actually HERE.
Smiling, Olly tried her fruit salad. It was pretty good, yeah. "Trying to help them grow here. Or grow faster. We cross-breed them with more local plants, for example. Or magical ones with regular ones." She wasn't going to go into detail there. Penelope probably wouldn't care.

Assuming she didn't mind. Was that a bad assumption? Hmm. Just to be sure, he asked even as he placed his food down on the table.
"Mind if I sit, Marilyn?"

Not expecting anyone to join her, the blonde had pulled out a little something to read while she enjoyed her lunch; glasses carefully perched on the bridge of her nose as she perused the material. She wasn't an antisocial lady; she enjoyed talking to people...but it was rare to be approached at this time of day.
Perhaps...because she'd never ate her lunch in the Food Court. Their breakroom (on Level 3) didn't allow much space for fraternizing. It was more an 'eat and go' situation.
"Oh, Rusty. Yes, of course." She quickly rearranged her tray, water bottle, and newspaper to give him more space, offering a smile. Rusty was a lovely, oblivious man. Bless him.

"Thanks. " He smiled at her because at the exact moment she had said yes he was seated, well and truly looking forward to his lunch. Force of habit, and without thinking about it, Rusty used his wand to cut the crusts off, then he banished them to the tub back home that was kept specifically for bread scraps.
......
"Huh. " he said sheepishly, realising what he'd just done. "Suppose there's not much point keeping bread scraps to feed the ducks with Lola away at school. "

"You're welcome."...and mhm, she'd seen that. Instead of being annoyed at the presumption, however, Marilyn simply continued to smile at the man in her pleasant way. Rusty was harmless. Everyone knew as much...and they hadn't properly chatted in a while. So, a little catching up would be nice.
She casually tucked the newspaper back into her bag. "Would it be upsetting to drop them off, anyway? I'm sure she wouldn't want the ducks to suffer."...because Olivia would've forced her to care for them in her absence, as she'd already done with the fish in the pond behind their house. Her daughter was pushy and a touch obnoxious, though; a Gryffindor, clearly.
Oh...and these wraps were tasty. Hmm. She'd misjudged.

"Hopefully be an Auror here." That was her plan, at least. Penelope had no intentions of leaving the Ministry any time soon. This was the job she wanted, and she wanted it here. "A really awesome one." But that part was a given, yeah? 'Cause she was already awesome.
Taking a couple more bites of her wrap, she listened to Olly explaining a bit about her job. "That actually sounds pretty cool. Have you cross-bred any really awesome ones yet?"

"She likely hasn't even thought about it." Lola was a different sort of child, her thought patterns, the things that mattered to her and when they mattered. "It was sort of a thing we did together." Rusty paused to eat some of his lunch and then after swallowing and neatly wiping his mouth with a serviette he spoke again.
"When does Olivia go off to school?" A little while yet, he thought he recalled.

“I have been vorking here for…” how long had it been now? “Ay few month.” He didn’t really get out of his work area much. Cassie’s mention of a food court perked Adam’s interest. But if he did understand, she didn't want to waste time explaining something that he already knew. "I went to school there, Salem. Where'd you go?" It was possible that he could have gone to Hogwarts, but more likely that he'd gone somewhere closer to his home.
"How are you liking it so far?" It was mostly friendly curiosity, but a little bit doing her job. Making sure he was doing fine with the transition and whatnot. But he seemed like he was just fine, so far at least.
Once they got into the lift it was easy enough for Cassie to show him the way to the food court. Since they were there, she decided to get some food for herself. It was about that time. And once she was around the food, her stomach decided that it would be a good idea to eat some. So she got into the relatively short line and purchased herself a chicken salad sandwich. Cassie selected an open table, assuming that Adam would join her. He had been right behind her last she'd checked.

It seemed that Gabby couldn't get used to the horrid cafeteria no matter how much she tried to.
Making a face, she chose a seat purposely away from others as she settled in to eating her lunch. Since she was staying away from junk food, Gabby had decided to go with water, a turkey sandwich with plenty of veggies, an apple, and some grapes. It took time and effort to keep her figure looking like this, and she was not going to ruin everything with food like donuts and cheesecake.
Though she DID love the occasional slice of cheesecake if it was low fat.
Settling in, she hoped that no one would bother her. They wouldn't if they knew what was best for them.

Lynley normally ate lunch in her office if she had a lot of paperwork or other work related things to do, but today...she was a little light. She mostly poked in on her employees, made some trips to Aron's office, and other things that involved walking around and looking super important.
She had packed her own lunch today. A caesar salad with a pack of carrots for the side....and a very small brownie because she DID enjoy sweets. And she would probably drink 38327462985468596 more cups of coffee today, too.
The food court area was usually packed during this time, and it was, so Lynley would HAVE to sit by someone...ugh. Who...who? WHO? Luckily, she spotted Gabby, one of her employees, quickly, and took a seat without asking. "HELLO Gabby. How are you today? I'm sitting here." She announced with a smirk as she opened her lunch tin. "Since...everyone is full and I don't much dislike you."
Wasn't THAT what you wanted to hear from your boss?

Oh.
Well, wasn't this an interesting development.
Gabby was rather shocked as her boss took a seat at the table. Carrot halfway to her lips, she blinked and stared at the woman. Had she done something wrong without realizing it? Because her boss NEVER ate here.
After a moment, Gabby remembered herself (and her carrot). "Hello," she said with a small smile as she put the carrot back on her plate. "I'm pretty good. How are you?" Clearly she was in a good mood today judging by the assertiveness. Her Department Head could do whatever she wanted - so long as it was legal. "I can see that. Good thing I don't much dislike you either." That was a joke.
That would be understood, right? Gabby WAS smiling after all. At least she didn't mind her boss. Okay, she rather liked her.

Oh good. Gabby didn't seem to mind her sitting there...good good. "Today? Today I'm grand." She said as she opened her salad container and began to pour her choice of dressing that she had in another small, circular container...and began to eat her salad in the most polite of ways.
Lynley had manners, thank you very much.
Heh. Lynley cracked a smile at that and nodded. "I actually like everyone in my own department--you're all wonderfully efficient and lovely people, generally speaking--" she still wasn't sure about the new guy. Was he all play and no work? Hmm. Only time would tell. "It's when we get....to other departments." She sneered and rolled her eyes. "But I won't gossip. How...very unprofessional of me."
"Sometimes...I just want a burger and fries for lunch. But then I remember--I am nearly 34. I can't EAT like I used to." She sighed sadly and dug into her salad--which seemed pretty lame compared to a burger.....

Gabby nodded as her boss told her that she was doing well. That was always good to hear, she supposed; it would really suck to be stuck working for a crabby pants. "Any productive day at work is a good one." Just saying. That only went for things that were interesting though, because as soon as something lost its appeal Gabby was over it.
Eating a few carrots, she watched the other people around her. She had never really bothered socializing much, but she did wish that her sister was there to keep them company. Maybe she was eating elsewhere, because Gabby couldn't find her anywhere.
But oh.
Bosslady had her attention. "I don't think it's gossip or unprofessional." NOW SPILL!
"Nothing wrong with an occasional burger and fries," she added as she was still focused on the other thing. It was a bit rich coming from someone who obsessed about her figure, but Gabby didn't particularly care if she was being honest.

"Hear, hear--" she nodded at that one. If Lynley spent a day doing paperwork that was actually IMPORTANT...the day was not wasted. Boring, but not wasted. "I hope you're having a productive day, Gabby. I know we had that...strange call from a woman out in Amesbury about her...floo network. Strange little lady, she was. I was worried about sending you out there--" she smiled though. "But I have an efficient team." That was a compliment, Gabby. Take it.
Hehehehe.
Lynley smirked a little. "I just.......well don't get me started on Level Four in general..." her voice was very hushed. "All so....I can't even think of the word." Creatures and Enviromentals. Hmph. Emmalee Howell was all right...certainly the most NORMAL. Oh, and she did befriend the werewolf...Taladona. "And Level THREE..." she rolled her eyes. ROLLED. HER. EYES.
There was nothing wrong with it, but Lynley thought it should be countered by other activities...perhaps exercise. Lynley DID do lots of cardio...but eh. Today was a long day, and she might just skip it. "I suppose. Moderation. Everything in moderation."
