Mariel skimmed the last paragraph on the parchment before looking up to see who was entering her office when the door opened. Flowers? Well, that was a nice surprise.
She watched the delivery person a moment as he walked further into the room, her eyes narrowing slightly as she looked him over curiously. There was something oddly familiar about him, and a little unusual about the entire situation. And then he spoke. Yes, maybe she was altogether too familiar.
"On the desk will be just fine, thank you." She smirked lightly as she watched him, waiting expectantly to put the flowers down and show his face.

Jorge grinned behind the flowers thinking it was working, because she hadn't said his name nor her voice didn't seem like she was aware. He tried not to chuckle and kept very still and calm. Hearing her say about putting them on the desk he glanced from behind the flowers to the desk. Moving closer he didn't put them down.
"Come without a note ma'am. Seems you might have a secret admire." Better not have one if they knew who her husband was, not that he was truly anyone. HA! He moved to put them down on the desk and smiled at his wife.
Jorge grinned behind the flowers thinking it was working, because she hadn't said his name nor her voice didn't seem like she was aware. He tried not to chuckle and kept very still and calm. Hearing her say about putting them on the desk he glanced from behind the flowers to the desk. Moving closer he didn't put them down.
"Come without a note ma'am. Seems you might have a secret admire." Better not have one if they knew who her husband was, not that he was truly anyone. HA! He moved to put them down on the desk and smiled at his wife.
"Hola Beautiful"
Mariel was rather amused at this interaction, though she was also quite touched by the display, and she watched as the "delivery person" came closer, but still didn't show what she was sure was a very handsome face.
"No note? Hmm, that means I'll just have to guess at who might have sent them," she drawled, never taking her eyes off the flowers or person behind them. "They are such beautiful flowers." She laughed lightly. "Perhaps... Secret admirers are so exciting, of course."
She gave her husband a more genuine smile as he set the flowers down, finally revealing who she had been more and more certain was behind them. "Hello. What a lovely surprise."

"Plus secret admirers are dangerous. You never know when they are going to try something bad." He couldn't help but think about the Hamilton stuff going on. Being sports it was something that was on their radar.
He leaned in and gave her a quick kiss. "I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd stop by." He had actually come from the Prophet or what was left of it at least, but he wasn't sure that was the best thing to start off with. "Anything interesting going on here?" Like MLE maybe having info on what happened? "Are you busy?" He didn't want to interrupt if she had a meeting to go to.
He looked around her office, "You have protection spells on the fireplace and things, right?"
He did brow at her comment about secret admirers being exciting. "The only admirer sending you anything better be me." Grinning he walked closer and put an arm around her waist. "Oh, you are the only admirer worthy of my attention," she smiled. But he was sweet to be worried. "Hmm. I don't think we have anything to be concerned with there." Sure, she got her share of owls from disgruntled fans who thought their favorite players were being targeted with infractions, but they were harmless for the most part and she knew how to take care of herself otherwise.
She smiled up at him as he put his arm around her and she returned the kiss. "Well, I'm glad you did.. I'm always happy to see you for an office visit.." Though she figured being in the neighborhood might have also meant Diagon Alley and stopping by the remains of the Daily Prophet. It was a shame what had happened there, but she had her own ideas on it. "No, I'm not too busy right now." Well, she always had things to do, but she could almost always make time for him. "It's actually been pretty quiet here today. A few owls, but that's about it."

The only admirer was good. Jorge did have a jealous streak in him. Not a horrible one and he could usually play it off without being noticed, but he did have one. He wasn't one to sit back and let someone else try to step into his place when it came to his wife. He knew he was the only one in her heart (man that is) so he wasn't really worried. He grinned more and kept an arm around her waist. "Will you be going on lunch anytime soon?" Maybe they could grab a bite to eat before he headed back to the office.
His smirk came at the office visit, yes they could have an office visit if she liked. He had some things he could go over, but lunch might be more the thing for today. The season had just been getting off the ground, so it might not be too busy for her yet, though he knew she had other duties other than quidditch with a full department to run. He'd have to get back to his own office soon, since the kids were at the moment playing with one of his employees children that had been there and she so sweetly said she'd watch them as he ran a few errands. He always trusted her the most since she had children of her own and she had proven herself trustworthy.
He nodded as he looked around, "Something fishy seems to be up with that Prophet fire. I mean it could have just been an accident, but talking to a few people there today. I feel like we all have the same suspicion." He rubbed his chin as he thought a moment. He didn't want to worry her, but he didn't want to leave her in the dark either. "With the last issue never being solved it would make any of us go right to that as the reason the Prophet is no longer standing." He wanted to work with whomever he needed to figure this out, but would he be able to was the question.

Victoria was upset. She had come into the office that morning fully unfocused and fully upset. She was hating herself for being upset, but she didn't know what else to feel and now she was standing in front of her boss's office just staring at the door. It wasn't work related, but she needed her friend. Another opinion, but was she a bad mother for even being this upset? She was being a horrible mother and she felt so bad about it. EVERYTHING from the birth of the twins, her feelings, her leaving, Charely it was all coming back and Victoria needed to grab the wall for support.
Head spinning she knocked hoping Mariel was in. She was going to need the day off or the week. Maybe she'd call up her old healer. Merlin she hadn't seen her healer in years. Merlin she needed to get it together, maybe she'd go talk to Charley and see if he was having the same thoughts she was. Maybe she was over reacting.

Coffee. Mariel had needed yet another cup of coffee already this morning. It was a good thing that the best cup of coffee in the entire Ministry could be found just down the corridor from her office. After spending a good portion of the morning looking over semantics and plans for how to incorporate another division into their department. With their limited resources, it was proving to be difficult to work it out and she wondered if she was staring at the figures a little too long. Another cup of coffee was sure to help.
She was just coming back from the coffee cart with cup in hand when she noticed Victoria standing just outside her office. Just staring at the door, it seemed, as she approached, though perhaps she had just knocked and was waiting for her to open the door to let her in. Well, she hadn't been on the other side of the door but she was here now. "Good morning, Vic," she smiled brightly as she headed up to her office and reached past her to open the door. "Is this a social call or did you need something from me?"

She never thought she'd react the way she had been and she always thought she was very supportive of the diversity in the world, but now, now it was hitting her home and shew as not doing well with it.
"I... I actually was hoping to speak with you and maybe take a few days off. I need to figure some family things out." Was that the best way to put it? Probably not because that could mean illness, divorce, death, who knew what could have started in Mariel's brain. "Everything is alright. I just have come across something with the twins that I need a moment to process and figure out steps and what we need to do." Was there anything really to do? She was only seven, almost eight. Maybe she could still show signs? If just seemed so late.

She'd likely be upset too if she thought one of her children was a squib, though of course she wouldn't love said child any less. And she knew Victoria would feel the same. But perhaps she was still jumping ahead of herself.
"Has she said anything?" Not that Mariel would really expect Alana to know much and she didn't think that Victoria would want to upset her. But maybe she would have had her own observations about what her twin was doing, and she was old enough to maybe have some thoughts about not doing something that her sister could. She let go of her friend's hand as she took some tissues, but she remained focused on Victoria.

She let out a little sigh and gave her a sympathetic smile. "That will be hard for them, I'm sure, if it does come to that. "I see," Mariel said lightly. So Elisa was showing pretty distinctive signs of magic and her twin sister was noticing. And noticing that she was unable. "Well, if it comes to that.. if it ends up that Alana isn't going to be able to perform magic, well I suppose that is what the support group is for. They will help you in what to say and how to approach it with her." Of course she had never personally had any experience with that kind of support group but she imagined that they'd be helpful in that case. Hopefully they would and not just fill her head with worrying stories.
She figured that Victoria had already spoken to the child's father and she nodded as she spoke, agreeing with what Charley had thought. "It's not unheard of, though I really don't know the age of the latest bloomer?" She wondered if some kids never really did show very obvious signs yet still found their way to Hogwarts and were successful witches and wizards. "Well.. if she really is a squib, she won't get her letter anyway. I suppose that would be the final way to find out." She hated to be some blunt with a delicate situation, but it was true. The powers that be at the magical schools were able to detect that in children in order for them to get their letter. They didn't automatically send them out. She still thought talking to a healer was the best thing though.
"Oh, I understand." Even if she wasn't planning on sending her own children to Hogwarts, Mariel could understand having a certain plan in mind for ones kids and not being happy if it didn't work out just the way one thought it would. "Maybe it won't even be an issue. But if it does end up to be that way, I'm sure you will find the best solution for everyone." It would be so hard to send one off to one school and the other somewhere else though.

Yes the support group, though Victoria had little faith in those. She had been to a few. One after her divorce and one after the twins were born. Neither seemed to help her the way she needed. "I might look around to find the best one just to be prepared. I need to be prepared for anything that might come." She was someone that always needed prepared. Especially since the twins were born she took everything with extra steps. She could never do what she had done to them back then. So everything was even more important now.
Not get her letter, how devastating for a child. "No that would be just unacceptable. We need to know before that would happen. That would just be heart crushing for a child who is waiting on something that never comes." She remembered waiting on that letter long before she was eleven. She couldn't have Alana's heart broken over something like that. She would protect her daughters from as much heartache as she could.
She leaned back in her chair just at a loss. She couldn't even get her mind around it. "It's just not fair to Alana. She didn't do anything to deserve this." No squib did, but yet to a small child it could seem like a punishment. She wiped at her eyes and tried to get her composure back.
Fulton made his way to his boss' office with a pile of papers and a few questions he hoped she might help him with.. The fact was he was having a bit more trouble figuring out what to do about the difficult process of going through so much information.. And his department.. Well, his section of the department was still somewhat new and his coworkers were just as new at their positions as he was so... Yeah.. Mariel was just finishing up a few things on her desk before her meeting with Fulton. She thought he was doing a rather fine job, especially for it being a new position in a new division. It was because of that reason that she did keep an extra eye on her recreational sports team but it would be good to have a semi-official meeting with him to get his input.
As she finished off some of the paperwork, she got up from her desk to file it. Opening up her filing cabinet drawer near her slightly ajar door, the department head noticed the man standing just outside. Wondering why he hadn't knocked to alert her of his presence, she opened the door wider. "Fulton," she began, giving the man a curious look. "How long have you been standing there? You really should knock to let me know you're waiting." Chuckling a bit to herself, she stood back to let the man in. "Come on in then." Because even when she had appointments, she always had plenty to do that she likely wouldn't come looking for another person.

Lucas knew why he had been summoned to Mariel's office. It was due to that summit that he was supposed to be helping with. After finishing up some pending work, he grabbed some notes he had already made for the presentation then made his way to her office. He hoped she hadn't gotten busy. He had tried to come as soon as she had called him but he also wanted to finish up his work. Luckily it hadn't taken too long.
Lucas knocked on her office door. "Hey, Mariel. Sorry for being a bit late.'' He waited for permission then headed into his boss's office. He was completely set for the meeting!

Mariel gave a slight dismissive wave of her hand as she looked over Lucas's notes. "No, no.. it's nothing for you to worry about. It's all being handled." Anything that he needed to do was already delegated through the Quidditch division, but it was nice of him to offer. She appreciated hard workers who went the extra mile, so to speak. And she could count on Lucas to do just that.

She did disagree on the overall agenda, but that wasn't exactly the issue. It wasn't really up to her, or him, what other people decided, it was just their job to present the facts and let others decide once they weighed all the positives and negatives.
"The only thing I want you to really be aware of, other than these couple of points.." She jotted a few things in the margins of his notes. "It does read as if you are in favor of one side, yet we are not starting a debate, so it is important that you present the facts and the issue as non-biased as possible." She handed them back to him. "I'd also like to make this somewhat interactive for those that come to listen. Do you have any ideas for that at all?" She might, but she wanted to hear what he thought or what he could possibly come up with first.

If Mariel said she had things covered, then that was exactly what was happening. Plus, she knew if she needed anything done, he hoped she knew she could always count on him. And she always had words of wisdom to offer. Lucas remained quiet as she explained. Woops, had his opinion been showing that much? Embarrassment clouded his face. “You’re right. I’ll keep that in mind.’’ He paused for a moment, trying to think of exactly why he had let himself get so biased. “I’m just too passionate about the topic, I reckon. I know using this kind of turf will help the department and Ministry as a whole a lot.’’ Why was he so loyal to this place?
“Well, there’s obviously a question and answer segment that we can have. Is that too boring?’’ Lucas didn’t want to make anyone drop off to sleep in any way. “We can use magic to have a hologram or two set up to give basic information to anyone who wants to know more. Or we can have also have other members of the department there to interact.’’
