Morgan P. Nickles EraAll historical records pertaining to Ministry of Magic RPG under Minister for Magic, Morgan P. Nickles [IC January 2094 - December 2096; OOC October 2017 - October 2018]
"It's no problem." Her fake smile was still there, but eased a little more to the genuine side.
A question that she was more than pleased to answer, yet it felt like he wanted to say more. She let a gap of silence fill the air whist he fiddled with his napkin. Her expectancy of him wishing to talk more appeared to be incorrect and it was only she decided so that she answered. "I'm a prosecutor at the ministry."Possibly why she could be so harsh as to offending others. "What is it that you do?" By the looks of his sweater she assumed two possible options; either a position in some sort of education, or a boring office job of some sort and yet one that couldn't be too formal. This was all unless his dress differed for the work place.
Work had been busy, but it wasn't the only situation keeping her busy. She had other responsibilities, family responsibilities to keep it brief. "Yes there's a lot to do and I always feel the need to work hard. Wouldn't you say the same?" Hard workers were of her interest, and mostly because that should a person could have dedication and care towards something they enjoyed, or even did not enjoy.
This. Had. Just. Gotten. Awkward. Not to mention that the guilt train had just ridden over her too.
"I'm so sorry and here I was the whole time thinking that you we're a cheater." She had to explain herself, even if it wouldn't make much of a difference, it would ease her guilt conscience at the very least. "I saw you take of that ring outside and I assumed because I suppose I don't have high expectations of men and I'm sorry." Her eyesight was on him to show her authenticity. "So this is your first date since? This must be hard for you." A lot harder than for her.

Gripping his girlfriend's hand and still being oh-so-quiet, the former ravenclaw lead her to the only place he could think of. It was unromantic in a lot of way and he shouldn't be doing it this way - but then being romantic actually scared the hell out of him. Because what if the answer is no?
Entering the little restaurant, he found them a corner table - one with a view. "I think this works, yeah?" he asked pulling put a chair for her.
Being pulled away from the music and fried foods made Alex feel rather inquisitive. It seemed as if something was troubling her boyfriend and she just couldn't put a finger on what it was... besides his quiet nature was starting to get to her. If he didn't share his thoughts soon, well, she might share hers.
Surveying the chosen corner - out of the way of everyone else it seemed and very secluded - Alex smiled. "It doesn't matter if we're by ourselves or a sea of people, as long as I'm with you," she kissed his cheek briefly before taking the seat he had pulled out for her. "Thank you. So, you going to tell me what's going on or do I have to take you to a psychic?" She really hoped not the latter, because she rather despised most divining techniques.

An awkward silence.
Although all silences were awkward for Awkward!Howard.
Oh, the Law Department! How interesting! Howard listened quietly. “It must be a very varied line of work. You must meet some interesting folk.” He was relaxing the more they talked. What did he do? “I work at the Ministry too. In Accidents and Catastrophes.” As ironic as it sounded. “I'm a Potion Identification and Recovery Specialist.” Potions were Howard's forte. That and model building. He was very near finished his B17 replica which had taken a painstaking number of hours to complete. It would soon need painting! It was all very exciting. Much more exciting than this ol' dating thing.
It was good to work hard. “I hope you take s-some well earned breaks sometimes.” He commented. He would say the same.. if he didn't love being in his home so much. Shut away from the scary world. It was Howard's sanctuary. His little safe haven.
He didn't intend to make the young lady feel awkward.. although just being around Howard was enough to make one feed off his anxious vibes. She had asked the direct question also. One which's answer was unavoidable without having to lie.
A cheater? Howard's eyes widened. “O-oh.. N-no. My wife. I adored her, you see?” He cleared his throat. Did he really come across as a cheater? Merlin's socks. Her reasoning was understandable, however, but Howard still continued to fidget anxiously. Had something happened to her to lower her expectations of men? He refrained from asking. Too personal.
“I-I..” He stuttered but was saved from having to answer as the waiter came over to take their order. He gestured politely for Erin to go first. Ladies first.
Interesting folk, yes. She nodded her head. Varied, to an extent yes but most of it was office work and much the same procedure to her therefore her work was routinely and that was exactly the way she loved it, so no complaints there. "It's less exciting than what most people think, but I enjoy it. I don't fit that exciting type of job filled with adrenaline. I prefer knowing what is ahead of me each day." she admitted to him. Some may have called her boring but she just called herself safe and orderly. It was all to do with perspective in her eyes. If he worked at the ministry then well it was strange that she had never seen him before. "That means you help provide my department with evidence then? If potions act as that, that is?" Or was she perhaps confused, she doubted it, she knew her things fairly well. "Do you enjoy it?" she asked. Potions, science had never been her strength but she did have an interest in it, even if it wasn't huge.
"As many as my job allows." That was not many, but she got most weekends fully off which was enough for her.
She felt like the conversation had a heavier weight about her than him and she wanted to equalize the scale if she could, even if it did mean talking about his wife. Her sympathy was fully his, but then again it was never recommended to talk about past lovers on a date.
Uh..more awkward?
"Yes, I'm sorry, please forgive me. She must of been very special if you're still holding onto her."Hopefully that didn't offend him any further.
Her eyes flickered to his mouth as he began to stutter an 'I'. It was urgent to change the topic now, she could feel it. It was tense and she could sense this was not a pleasing him. Yet what to change it to? History would of been ideal but as chosen a moment ago she wanted to attempt to talk about him more, so what to choose?
That was when the waiter had came, thank goodness. Saved them both it seemed. She ordered herself a glass of water along with a pesto-sauced pasta. Her sister had suggested the pasta, it didn't get stuck in your teeth easily and it didn't harm your breathe exceedingly; not that Erin planned to kiss this fella but she didn't like the thought of a stinking breathe, irrelevant.
Being pulled away from the music and fried foods made Alex feel rather inquisitive. It seemed as if something was troubling her boyfriend and she just couldn't put a finger on what it was... besides his quiet nature was starting to get to her. Cole smiled hearing her. It was true - it wouldn't matter where they were, as long as they were together. Wasn't that why he was slightly fidgety? Okay not slightly, but completely fidgety.
And then she directly asked him what was up. Cole looked down, his grey eyes shifting to anywhere that wasn't her eyes. Because it was hard. "I wanted to talk to you .." he started, bringing his hands up and holding hers in the middle of the table. "I have been thinking a lot about us .. and I can't stop" Breathe. Just breathe.
"I .. I love you so much, Alex" He said, finally looking in her eyes. "But this isn't enough for me" Because it wasn't.

Okay, Cole was making her nervous. Alex squeezed his hand and smiled up into his eyes, as he looked down .. Ugh. He was avoiding eye contact and that was definitely making her sure something was up. "It's okay." She kissed his cheek and released his hand.
"I love you too, Cole." But wait, love wasn't enough? She was confused. But not. Because she's heard this before only in a different form, with a different wizard, and it seemed like a million years ago. She was older now. She knew better. So she just held her breath for a moment.

Cole's head was a mess. He had gone through the whole speech so many times in his head but right now everything felt like the wrong thing to say. Taking a deep breath, he finally looked up and seeing her face he found the courage to actually speak. "I am irrevocably in love with you. You complete me in every way." he started, taking her hand in his. "I cannot imagine a life without you anymore" He said with a smile. He really couldn't.
"I don't want to grow old and regret never having asked you when I so badly want to" Reaching into his pocket, he took out the small box he had been carrying around for days now. Placing it on her hand, he took a deep breath and finally said: "Will you marry me?"

Brody was quite looking forward to this date. She hadn't really done much dating wise since her boyfriend had died but it had been a year now, and she figured she needed to get back into things. She had finally moved on, and was excited. Beck was a great guy too, which she'd been able to gather from the few times they'd stayed together, so she was looking forward to seeing him again. Hopefully things would go well, because Brody knew that she needed some happiness in her life.
The woman hummed to herself as she walked up to the restaurant where they were meeting, and glanced at her watch. Good, she wasn't late. Now to just wait for Beck to arrive.

It was so nice to actually be back to dating again. The last time that he had dated was about eight almost nine years ago. He remembered that very well because he was engaged to Cadence. He wasn't going to lie he really did love her but things just didn't work out. They didn't want the same things. Most of it had to do with a family. Beck was and still is ready to start a family of his own but every woman he dated or was engaged to wasn't. Those relationships were serious but they went nowhere when it came to a family. They didn't have to start one right away but it was something that he wanted.
Beck was a couple minutes late but he had to write a letter to his son at Hogwarts. Well his adopted son but he was his son he had been there for Jacques since he was five years old and now he was eleven and he couldn't believe it. Time just goes by so fast. He saw Brody. "Bonjour." He said as he took a seat at the table. "I am so sorry I'm late. I forgot that I had to write back to Jacques." He gave her a charming smile and the French accent really didn't hurt much, there was nothing he could do about the accent.

Well practice went alright and Giles was happy to have it over for the day. He loved his job, who wouldn't, getting to play quidditch every day, but he was eager for his dinner date that he had. Checking the time he had gotten to Esme's a little early. No big deal really, flower in hand he had knocked and she looked stunning as always. Now they were headed for the restaurant.
"I hope this place is alright. We could go somewhere else if you'd rather do something a little more fancy." They had been out a few times, but he didn't mind going fancier for her. Walking up to the door he opened it, "After you" Letting her go in he found the host and let them find them a table.
Seeing the server motion for them to a corner booth he took Esme's hand. "How was practice today?"

Esme was still carrying the flower Giles had presented to her, lifting it to her face to inhale its fragrance. Such a sweet and thoughtful gesture it was for him to bring her a flower to take her out, but she knew that to be Giles. He was a sweet and thoughtful man. One that she was happy to, as of late, call her boyfriend. She hadn't expected it to happen but was glad it did the way it had.
She glanced up at the restaurant as they neared it, then grinned as he spoke, glancing over at him. "Oh this is fine. It's a muggle place, isn't it?" she said, lowering her voice in case someone might hear. He knew that she could appreciate that type of thing, having two muggleborn parents. "I'll take a raincheck on fancy though," she added with a chuckle. Not only did she think that would be fun, but a reason to go out again. This was good for today though.
"Thanks," she smiled at him as h opened the door for her and she stepped ahead of him to walk in. Always the gentleman. She waited a moment as he spoke to the host, then took his hand as they followed the server to their seat. "Practice was good." Nothing out of the ordinary there at least. She still found it odd with him not being there but she was starting to get used to it, she supposed. She wasn't sure if they would be dating if they were both still on the same team, so in a way she thought maybe his being traded was for the best anyway. "How was yours? I wish I could come see you play.." Most of their games seemed to be on the same day. Maybe one of them would have a Sunday game soon and she could go watch the Cannons.

Glad that she didn’t mind the restaurant he picked he grinned, “It is, thought it might give us a bit more privacy. Many of us come here, but it still gives a bit more privacy from fans and journalist itching for a story. “ After Tupper made the top story of that magazine he knew they could be targeted as well and wouldn’t Rebecca like that. He rather keep his relationship to himself, it wasn’t anyone’s business. He’d do interviews as long as it was kept to the professional side and shed light on his charity work, but for his personal business that was his own. “You can cash in on that raincheck whenever you like.” He grinned happily, this had all turned out nicely. Who would have thought they would have ended up like this? It was really great!
He liked hearing that her practice was good, “Tupper keeping that arm in shape.” He put a hand without thinking to his nose. It didn’t hurt at all anymore, but the thought of how strong she really was brought back the feeling. Playing on the same team as someone you don’t really know their power until you are stuck as the target. “Rebecca should be happy with the way you are all playing. I bet you are on her good side right now.” His girlfriend was a great chaser, so there was no need not to be. She was captain as well, which he was incredibly proud of.
Sitting and sipping some water he ordered them some wine before picking up the menu, “Practice was good. Harvey has a different way to things. It’s nice to have him around and not wish he would just leave already. Rapunzel is pretty smart, so she’s got many good tactics when it comes to her coaching style.” Though he knew that from her being his bludger targets during games that she played. He gave a smile at her words, he was glad he got to see her play the other weekend when they had a bye. “We probably have one on a different day, we’ll have to compare. I think I have the Catapults schedule still.” He had gotten it before the trade. So maybe if they went back to his place they could look. “Know what you want to order?”

Esme bit her lip and nodded, her thoughts drifting a bit as Giles mentioned the place allowing for a little more privacy. She hated talking to the press mainly for the fact that they seemed so focused on gossip rather than actual news, no matter what the expense of the person they wrote the story on. And what she learned over the weekend just cemented that thought further in her mind. "Good idea," she said, smiling softly. "Did you happen to see that gossip column about Muirgen?" Awful, really. Esme normally stayed away from those tabloids, but another of their teammates happened to show her the article. And she'd rather not having anything like that written about her, not that she was hiding her relationship, but it was her business and not material for rumors and gossip. But she smiled wider when he agreed to cash in her raincheck. "Good, I'm going to hold you to it." A fancy night out with him sounded fun.
Her smile faltered a bit as her eyes focused on the hand he lifted to his nose. She could still replay that awful moment in her head when she saw that bludger connect with his face. With the joking between them before the match, she didn't think it would be so hard to play against him instead of them being on the same team like they once were. "Yes, she is a force," Esme said softly, her smile faint. "I'm lucky to have her defending me." Her smile grew a bit bigger. "I'm glad we only play you once a year," she added with a chuckle. She really couldn't imagine it being more frequent. "Does Rebecca have a good side?" she laughed, though she did seem to be about as pleased as she had ever seen her. Hopefully that would stay.
Wine sounded perfect and she took a sip of water as Giles did the same, nodding a bit as he talked about practice. "Sounds like it's going well," she smiled, happy that he seemed to be enjoying his new team. "Yes, she was a pretty good chaser.." It wouldn't surprise her to know that she was now using that knowledge and skill to guide the rest of the team. The best coaches and managers seemed to be former players. She didn't think Rebecca had played though as far as she knew. "Oh I hope so," Esme grinned. "I have this pretty awesome Cannons shirt I can wear to a game." She actually liked to sleep in it sometimes, but it would be fun to wear it to one of his games. Even if someone saw and accused her of being a traitor or something.
"Oh," she laughed as she pulled the menu in front of her and opened it. "I guess I should decide on something." Her eyes quickly scanned the selections, knowing what she could or couldn't have. "I think I might have some grilled fish." Though she would rather have it fried, but not so good for her regimen. "Does Harvey and Rapunzel have you on as strict a diet as Rebecca insists on?" She was sure he'd remember that, but it was just as likely that they weren't as strict. Though who knew, maybe they all were.

“I did, how did Rebecca take that one?” He knew it was going to come out eventually, but it would have been probably better for Muirgen if she would have been able to tell it first.” Stupid media, shouldn’t have jumped in the personal life like that. “Did you see the misprint on Kieran. It said he hadn’t been there for long.” He chuckled at the thought, “Obviously it was a new writer or something.” He had played against the man when he was a player and not just a manager. “Where every you want to go we can go. We have a few award things that will come up too, so that could be a good place to get all dressed up.” He never went to those sport awards banquets but since he would have such a beautiful date he might reconsider.
He saw the falter, “I’m fine just a thought is all.” The broken bones were healed that day and the swelling was gone within the day. He just hadn’t realized the type of arm his exteam mate really had. “You are and I’m glad she is defending you.” Not that he wanted the Catapults to get too many points ahead of the Cannons, he did have a team to play for, but he didn’t like seeing his girlfriend hurt if there was someone there to help keep her safe. “Yeah me too, it is something to get used to, but I’d rather just slam bludgers at people that I don’t plan on kissing later.” Leaning over he kissed her cheek. “Maybe, I mean I’ve seen her smile once or twice. It’s usually when the owner is around though.” Honestly he didn’t know how she had gotten as far as she did in the business with the attitude she kept.
“It is. Enzo and I seem to connect well and can guard the chasers pretty easily. HIs experience has come in handy. It’s easier to blend with one that has the experience then one that is just starting out trying to prove something.” He was new once so he got it, but it was still annoying as you were trying to have a smooth flow to the game and got a bludger hitting crazy newbie cramping the style. He chuckled as she talked about the shirt, “Yes I’d like to have a fan wearing my shirt in the stands.” Not that he didn’t have fans, but knowing she was sitting there just made it better.
“No not at all, he has talked about these smoothies that his son or adopted son makes, but other than that we do what we want really. As long as we are winning, I don’t think he’d interfere like Rebecca. She mettles too much.” That was something he didn’t like about the woman. Well one of the many things. Looking at the menu he put it down and waved over the server. “I’m going to have the chicken this evening.” He said to both of them really. Being handed the wine he poured two glasses and set the one in front of her.

Esme remembered the bet that they had made with Muirgen that she'd have to tell Rebecca about her seeing the Kestrels manager if she lost, though she thought of it as more a joke even if she went through on her own bet. No problem there at all. But she wouldn't have really wanted her teammate to have to say anything because she felt personal lives should stay private. Obviously certain magazines disagreed. "I'm not sure if she saw it, to be honest," she shrugged then took a sip of water. "You'd think she would have flipped if she had.." Though there had been a snide comment that made her think that maybe she had read it. She laughed a little humorously as he asked if she had seen the misprint and she nodded. "New.. or obviously not a sports writer, just interested in gossip." That was just one of the things that annoyed her about the article. The writer obviously didn't do their homework at all. Her annoyed expression softened as Giles continued and she smiled widely as he mentioned the awards banquets. She usually found them stuffy and boring, but maybe it could be fun to dress up and go with a date. "That would be nice.. I think I'd like that."
She watched him carefully, nodding at his words. "I know you are," she said softly. "I just.." She briefly closed her eyes before looking at him again. "It was a terrible thing to witness. But I'm glad you're alright now." She knew bludger hits were routine, but he sight of that one hit her really hard. It was something of a weird feeling. She had never dated a fellow Quidditch player before. It was hard to see her teammates and friends hit, but her boyfriend was on a different level even. And he probably put it best. She chuckled at his words. "I'd much rather get kissed than hit by a bludger," she said, grinning at the kiss on the cheek. And she laughed as he joked about Rebecca. 'You have to be glad you don't have to put up with her nonsense anymore." She didn't really know Harvey Gunter that well, but he had to be better than her manager. Or at least he seemed it.
Nodding, Esme listened as he talked about his experiences with his new team. She vaguely remembered that Enzo had played before - Puddlemere maybe - and he seemed like a decent enough person, but she liked to see for herself. She couldn't always when she played as she was focused on her own performance and the other chasers. But she was glad that Giles was having a good time settling in and getting into a routine with his other half. "Oh, I'm sure you have plenty of fans in the stands wearing your shirt," she smiled. "But I'd love to join them." It would be really fun to cheer him on.
Smoothies.. that was a little odd and she gave a bemused chuckle. "That's good. I think that's the way it should be as long as everyone is reasonable." She could see if players started getting out of shape or were just eating poorly, then maybe something needed to be enforced. But Rebecca was just ridiculous with the way she made such a presence in their lives. Oh and there was the server. She nodded as Giles placed his order and she glanced down at the menu to confirm what she had thought, then looked up to place her own order. "I will have the grilled salmon with brown rice, please." She smiled as he poured her a glass of wine, picking it up as he set the glass in front of her and she lifted it to her lips.

There was something that bothered him, something he wasn’t saying, but wasn’t sure whether to bring it up or not. Rebecca had always been an awful person in his eyes, though good manager, awful person. He had never wanted on the bad side of her and didn’t want Esme there either. “Do you think she will have issues with this? I know it’s none of her business, but I don’t want you in a bad position either. She could try to trade you. “ Not that trading really hurt them being together, though there were rare occasions that international trading happened, but he knew that the player had to agree to that. “For Muirgen, I hope that she either didn’t care or thought she was doing it for the team.” The writer certainly was a joke that was obvious to any real quidditch person or fan.
She’d like to go to the awards banquet with him. That made him smile, he knew she’d look amazing in one of those fancier dresses. She always did in the past. “Good, it will be nice to be with someone there instead of always getting the photographers in your face about going alone. “ He hated that part about any places he went. He could do without cameras. Though he knew how she was feeling and squeezed her hand, “It is different watching now, isn’t it.” He hadn’t realized what putting feelings into the game would do. “I never let myself date another player before.” Though she probably knew that. They were on the same team for awhile. He had been single the majority it. Dating wasn’t ever really on the top of his list. “Oh I am, she is just ridiculous most of the time. She had to know the right people to get where she had. “ It’s the only thing he could think of.
He couldn’t help but chuckle at her fan comment, “Oh I don’t know. Many don’t follow the player they follow the team. So any of my old fans, probably dropped me once I left you guys. Though you’d be the prettiest one sitting there if that’s the case.” He liked seeing her in the T-shirt he had given her, so knowing she was in it in the stands wouldn’t be a bad thing either. He brought the wine up to his lips and took a drink. “Yes, I agree. I think the Catapults are doing great, don’t get me wrong, but if Rebecca was a little easier to work with, players might give 110 percent not just 100.” He thought he knew how to get a team motivated and maybe that’s why Gunter made him a co captain, but it wasn’t the way Rebecca did it.

Sipping her wine, Esme thought over Giles' words for a moment. It was something that had briefly , crossed her mind. She didn't want to hide her relationship exactly, but wasn't sure what Rebecca would think about it either. Not that it would make a difference to Esme what she thought, but she knew Rebecca could try to make her miserable if she was unhappy. "I.. don't know," she finally said with some hesitation. "She seems to be happy when we are winning games, like that is all she cares about. If she thinks this will interfere with that maybe she would have some issue." But who knew with her really. And she bit her lip as he mentioned the possibility of trading, she didn't want to leave her team, but she soon shrugged and gave him a small smile. "Doesn't change anything." She would date who she wanted. "Hm, maybe that's what she thought, that Muirgen was doing it for the team.." It was weird to believe something like that, but she had a real hard time thinking that Rebecca would be quiet about it otherwise.
A faint frown crossed her face as he mentioned photographers. She hated the press and the paparazzi. Always so nosy about things that were none of their business. "They'll probably be in both of our faces about us going together instead," she laughed, knowing that might be more interesting in their eyes. But she didn't care that much, she wanted to go with him either way. She gave him a smile as he squeezed her hand and she nodded. "It is different. I guess I didn't realize how much it would be." She had had fun teasing him a bit about the competition before their game against each other, but it proved to be difficult to play and not be distracted. "I've never dated another player either," she chuckled. She had almost felt that she had some sort of unspoken rule about it, but everything just seemed to fall into place with Giles that it no longer applied. Esme just shook her head and rolled her eyes a bit as he mentioned Rebecca because she agreed. It was either who she knew or what she did. Or both.
Yes, she could give him that, she knew that to often be true. Fans were sometimes fickle and they did often follow their team more than anything. "Not if they're true, die-hard fans," she grinned, her smile soon fading a bit. She didn't mean stalker fans, though she had a couple of those before and they were a little creepy. But her smile was back as bright as it was when he complemented her. "I hope I get the chance to soon then." Taking a look at their schedules was a must. She wanted to be a cheering, supportive girlfriend. Esme took another drink of her wine, then smiled and shook her head. "She's never going to be. I just hope people don't start looking at other teams because of how she is." People could only deal with unpleasant and meddling for so long.

Giles listened as Esme seemed to try to figure it out in her head and talk about the things Rebecca would say or think. “That’s all she ever cares about. You know she was happy when I was getting fouls. She liked the aggression. Even offered bonuses.” It wasn’t a fact he was all that proud of, but it was truth. She had come to him at times knowing his competitive side and knowing how he’d get too carried away. He was working on that and only two fouls this season wasn’t that bad, at least he thought. He did smile as she said it wouldn’t change anything, he knew it wouldn’t but Rebecca had her ways of making a person hate life. “It wouldn’t surprise me, I bet she’s done similar things to get where she was.” Down fall of her not being from the area couldn’t get the background scoop and he didn’t have friends in Australia to help out with that.
He couldn’t help but laugh, “Yes then you will be the one helping the Catapults out, especially if those standings stay as close between our two teams as they are right now.” He didn’t try to pay attention to standings, but he was there to win, so it was hard not to pay attention to that part of the sports section. He had a tendency to look at the sports page for standings and injuries. Kept him up to date on what his game plans should be each match. “It’s only a matter of time until the public is fully into our business to a degree.” Though he did a pretty good job staying out of the news. “Me either. I mean I always hated see you guys hurt when I was on the team, but this just made it worse, especially when it was my hand doing the bludger hit.” That was a harder than he ever thought.
He couldn’t help but smile, she was so encouraging and positive about his fans and him playing for the Cannons, truth was he liked playing for them. Though he missed some things about the Catapults. He still enjoyed hanging out with his old team. “Yes I guess some would stick with me, but that would mean that possible loss for the Catapults.” He winked and laughed jokingly. “People won’t leave, they get paid to well there and the Catapults usually have a successful season if they aren’t the top every year.

Snapping herself out of her thoughts, Esme focused her grey eyes on Giles as he spoke about Rebecca and she nodded her agreement. He'd know better than anyone how she was. But bonuses? She looked at him curiously. "Really? She wanted you to purposely break rules?" She supposed that didn't surprise her, but she hated the thought of that woman using Giles for her own benefit, especially when he could get into trouble for those things. She was a moral-less woman, really. Biting her lip, she ran her finger over the top of his hand. "You can get a little aggressive." Not something she minded though. And Quidditch could be an aggressive sport. She knew that all too well and often enjoyed it.
She giggled a little at his words, blushing as she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. "Our standings are too close for anyone to believe something like that." She would rather their personal life be kept completely out of the press, but she would be really upset if it was made out that she was just using him to better her team or whatever nonsense they'd come up with. And unfortunately, she knew what he said was true. Being Quidditch players meant that they were somewhat recognizable and they'd be out together enough that someone would figure things out. "Hopefully they won't publish anything too bad or.. false," she said softly. Esme felt bad for Muirgen, even though she wasn't sure she'd read the article yet. She knew that whole article was just gossip and half-truths, and once she finally did get wind of it, she'd probably feel bad herself. Not to mention what people who did read it were thinking about her.
She smiled softly at him, then reached her hands across the table to place on either side of his face as she leaned over to lightly kiss him. "No more thinking of that. It's your job. You did just what you had to do and if you have to do it again, you'd better." She gave him a pointed look before sitting back in her chair. Of course Esme would rather not get ht with a bludger or have any bones broken, but she wasn't going to have him hesitant to do his job or feeling guilty about hitting her during a game. "I'm glad we don't play you again this season though," she chuckled. That one time was difficult enough. She knew she was hesitant to an extent too, and seeing him hit with that bludger upset her more than she thought it might.
Looking across the table at him, Esme really missed him being on the team and the connection they all had. Charpentier was still adjusting and it just wasn't the same chemistry between them all. But she did think that maybe things worked out for the best. Was it easier to date someone from another team rather than a teammate? She didn't know but thought that might be better somehow, that they weren't on the same team anymore. "Maybe.. but even so, you will have new fans. I hear Cannons fans are fiercely loyal, you're going to have so many more fans." And why wouldn't he? He was a pretty amazing player.

It wasn’t some of his proudest moments and most of the bonus money he gave to the community, especially the orphanage, but it was still a moral issue he had about breaking rules for the woman. “She did, she enjoyed the fact I got carried away.” He shook his head, it was ridiculous, but he was past it all now that he wasn’t there. “That’s the part that bugged me the most about the trade. If I was so important to break those rules and then all of the sudden I wasn’t. Though I know it was me or Tupper and Tupper didn’t want to leave, so she had to make her choice.” Clearly Tupper was the better player for Rebecca. A small smile crossed his lips, “Yes, I can. I don’t mean to, but it just happens.” There were matches he felt bad for the aggression he would show, but during the match he was fully zones and focuses that he didn’t notice the fouls.
“I don’t know, you do a good job at distracting, maybe you are just in this to keep our standings lower than your own. “ He was clearly just joking with her and laughed at the very thought of it. The media could take it anyway they wanted, he knew the truth and that was all that mattered to him. He didn’t think Harvey would have too much to say on the issue either. “Well going to places like this instead of full wizard places will help keep us out of the papers I think.” He was sure of the fact that if they stayed out of the eyes they could stay out of the papers.
His lips went to hers to give her a light kiss, but he sighed at her words. “It is my job and I love my job most of the time. Hitting people is never a problem.” That was the plus side of things, he wouldn’t have to face her that much. “Yes that is a good thing.” He was very glad of that. “Though I do enjoy coming to watch you play.” He had a good time when he was off that week and got to come. Though he assumed people could see him at his old team’s games as something different and wrong. He chuckled about the fan thing, “Yes I’ve heard that and have seen them go crazy at the matches. Catapult fans were dedicated, but these people do take it to a new level.” It was very entertaining to watch when he got the chance before and after matches.

His face being all contorted like that was making her nervous. If Alex hadn't known Cole for years, she probably would have been more nervous though than she was so she continued to hold her breath and wait. Yes, she'd definitely heard all of that before but in another lifetime ago it seemed. And with a different wizard.
When he reached into his pocket and placed the small box into her hand, she swallowed - feeling the saliva catch in her throat and exhaled, tears brimming at her eyes. "Isn't this the part where you're supposed to get on one knee or something?" Alex whispered quietly, as she leaned into him, a smile coming to her lips. "But yes, irrevocably, yes, and if you didn't ask me soon I was going to." She definitely grinned then.

Esme wasn't sure how she felt knowing that Giles had been purposely breaking rules because Rebecca pushed him to. But she figured she could attribute it to him getting carried away like he said. She knew as well as anyone else who played the game how one's competitive spirit could take over, but she was glad he was out of that situation now. And she frowned when he mentioned the trade. He had a good point. She wanted him to break all those rules then she got rid of him. She had even questioned that herself at a team meeting but wasn't exactly satisfied with the answer. "It still doesn't seem fair. Why did she have to trade anyone at all?" That part still made no sense to her. They had a pretty great team, what was the sense in breaking that up? The beaters they got for him weren't exactly fitting in well either. She chuckled a little, not just meaning his aggression in matches, then smiled a bit as she looked at him certain she was blushing. "Well, you're competitive like me. It makes for an exciting game."
She couldn't help the grin that crossed her lips and the chuckle that came with it hearing his words. "If I was that distracting I think your standings would be a lot lower. You can hold your own against us." But she knew that as soon as the media got wind of their dating, that they'd have some sort of spin on it. On that she was sure she wouldn't like, but anything that had people butting into her business was likely to annoy her. "Yes, I think you're right," she mused aloud, smiling softly. Going to places like this would help keep people out of their business, but she thought it might just be a matter of time. It didn't matter to her that people knew, she'd just prefer people to mind their own business and not draw their own conclusions. "I would like to go other places too though," she added with a bigger smile.
As competitive as she was, Esme wasn't sure she could ever play as a beater. She had to give those players some credit. And she knew that under normal circumstances that he wouldn't have an issue aiming a bludger at someone but she had meant specifically her. If he had to hit her again, then he needed to. But at least that wouldn't come up again for a while. "Maybe you'll have to come watch me again, then," she grinned. She did like having him as her own personal fan. As long as she was playing well and winning. Hopefully there was a week or two when they didn't have games at the same time so that could happen for both of them. Her smile got wider as she heard him talk about the Cannons fans. "Really? That's gotta be great for morale. I'll have to see that for myself." Games where the fans were really into it were a lot of fan.. at least from the stands.

“It’s the name of the game. People are always being traded for better deals, more money, sports in the draft. It’s just how it is. I’m at the prime of my game, so are you. Mid twenties is when we are on top. We are done being the newbies, but not yet the old has beens. It’s the perfect time to get the best deals to make the team stronger. Your team has been looking super strong with the new additions.” The Cannons weren’t that far behind them, but he knew whatever Rebecca did made them more successful. “I am competitive and you’re right it does make the game exciting. I forget I’m even playing in a match, my full focus is that bludger and the other team. So the rest of the match even the fans at times are lost. Until I hear that whistle that I’ve knocked the bludger at the fans in frustration.” That was always an awful wake up when he was in the zone not paying attention.
“You are distracting. You look beautiful in those robes as always.” He grinned, though he wished he could be saying it jokingly, but he knew she looked very nice in the Catapult robes, he had thought that for some time. “We can go anywhere you like.” He was enjoying all their dates. He thought about the posabilities of dates he could take her on. There were a few things he was looking forwards to doing.
He would love to go watch her again. “I hope we have a week or two before the end of the season that I can. I love watching you play.” Maybe he could sneak over to a practice as well. It’d be nice to see the old team and watch her. Seeing the check he laid out the money and got up. “Oh it is, they are really great. I couldn’t ask for louder fans at matches. Catapults fans are good, but nothing compared to this group. Plus our mascot isn’t as scary.” He chuckled as he went over to pull out her chair. “I was thinking a movie might be nice.” They were in the muggle area, so why not stop at the theater and see what was playing.
For someone who'd never been a stranger to relationships, whether serious or casual or whatever, Jake was completely clueless about what he was meant to do tonight. Granted, he'd never been on a blind date before, which just added to the mystery... as in, the mystery of the whole entire situation, and not just who he was supposed to be meeting.
He'd debated on flowers for a while, but Dale had advised against it. Dale had ALSO had vetoed the bright pink shirt, because his little brother was apparently allergic to FUN. Jake still stood by the fact that it would have been a perfect identifier, and he liked to casually ignore the points that 1. his intended date had no idea that that would BE the identifier, and 2. the waiter would be bringing her to the table anyway, what with their mutual friend having set everything up.
And so it was that Jake was seated at a table for two in the restaurant, in a much more subtle and smart-casual suit and sans the pink shirt. He glanced nervously at the door and adjusted his glasses, before running a hand through his blond hair.
He was absolutely not freaking out, or at least that was what he told himself as he straightened the menu on his table and took a sip of water. Not freaking out, just reasonably anxious about getting back into the dating game.
But ready. So ready. Yep. Eek. Okay, NO. Ready. Yes.

Blind dating was exhilarating, in the sweet Merlin please let this guy be as good as I'm hoping kind of way. Sure, she had some expectations set - was that a bad thing? Becca didn't think so, as expectations let her know right away whether this was going to result in an early declaration of CHECK, PLEASE! or if this could escalate into something... more.
When she arrived, she immediately set to scanning the restaurant for a man around her age seated by himself, but before she could find someone who fit the bill, she was approached by the waiter. Patiently explaining the situation, Becca was led deeper into the restaurant, and she held her clutch bag (that was stylishly charmed to match the color of her dress) close to her body as she skimmed the faces of those already present...
...There was a man sitting alone. Was he...? Oh, Merlin. The waiter was leading her there. To him.
Years and years had passed, but Becca Parker was good with faces, and she knew this one - as a former people-watcher and appreciator of handsome boys at Hogwarts, she knew this Seeker. Never spoke to him personally, but the younger man... yes, she knew who he was, but she hadn't seen anything about him in quite awhile - had he not gone on to pursue a career in Quidditch? With impressive skills like him in his youth, it was a wonder that he hadn't, actually.
It took her a moment to register a name with the face, but she did just in the nick of time as they reached the table. "Jake Upstead." It might have sounded like an accusation, but a smile graced the woman's features as she subconsciously scrutinized him from head to toe. "Is that really you?" She knew it was - he still had the same general features, just a bit more manly with an extra dash of handsome - but Becca thought it best to seem uncertain for the time being. She bet he didn't recognize her one bit.
