And while he read that, she would keep the conversation light and totaaaaalllllllly non-suspicious. "I've heard this place has great pastries, but I don't know if they'd be on my diet."
He kept grinning at her. There was no denying her rather excited expression. "Oh I'm starting to find out. I've been noticing your pretty good at finding the hit places. Though he had noticed other things about her too, who wouldn't. Heh..
"Coffee and a sandwich would be perfect really." He glanced down not expecting what he read on the paper. Department Heads, MLE.. His first thought went to Simon, but Simon wasn't the department head. Was Emily there. His grin grew. Oh she would love to see him now wouldn't she. His eyes lifted and he glanced around. His eyes meeting exactly who he was hoping to see, Emily. Yes this was a perfect place to look around. Though he wasn't sure who the brunette was that had her back to him. The more he glanced the more the outfit, the hair, that hair all became very familiar.
He came on a lunch to snoop around and found his girlfriend. Well this was awkward.
Grabbing the quill he scribbled and passed it back:

Warren broke the lockout story, but I'm always wanting in on things going on at the ministry. Simon would be a good one to keep watch on, Emily definitely, but the brunette with the MLE department head is off limits. Anything can be workable we just have to get more information.
work on this together?
He passed the notes back as he smiled his charming smile. "It's a special occasion one pastry isn't going to hurt. My treat." It was the least he could do for picking so a great place. "So this ageing tip?" He wasn't afraid to speak out about that. The rumors and the talking was all over, so it wasn't odd for them to be talking about it as well.

Aha, so he admitted it! All these men, always underestimating the likes of her. Tori flipped a bit of her ginger hair to one side and leaned in toward Jorge. "What can I say..... I'm misleading on purpose." She was a snake in the grass, hiding in plain sight... well, not exactly hiding. She was a princess and a fashionista. And smart. So. Hiding her brains was all she did.
Enough about her. Would he treat her to a pastry? Because she would eat it if he bought it, hehe. "I'll take one, in that case," she replied as he wrote in the notebook. Ooh. Hmm. She wrote back with a little soft humming to herself and casually passed it back.

Why is she off limits? Simon's the blonde MLEr, yeah? Who's that with him? And who is the random with Emily and your brunette?
Yes, his brunette. That's how she was going to refer to the woman because until he explained why she was off limits, she was just going to make assumptions. And Tori was good at assumptions.
Oh, the ageing tip. She leaned in again, even if she was following Jorge's lead in talking about this story in public. "Right, well I was at Hogsmeade a few weeks ago, and I overheard these two geezers yapping in the pub. Funny thing is, at first glance I thought they were the same age. But on second glance... one was definitely wrinkled and in a wheelchair, and the other had blonde hair, smooth skin, and good health." She took a breath and a sip of coffee. "SO, I sort of listened in on their convo, and I THINK the younger one is actually a professor at the school! So he's like, aging BACKWARDS while everyone else is aging FORWARDS!"
Could they have another time thief on their hands?!

He chuckled at her, this one was worth keeping a friendship with. "It's a very interesting way to go about things, but I like it." He wouldn't deny an excellent thing when he saw it. She could flirt her way into any situation he assumed and who couldn't admire that. It was his game he had played for years. It was almost as if he was looking at himself, but a chick. She had the looks to pull it off too. He would certainly give her that as well.
His brown eyes glanced back towards Simon wondering who the woman was. What was he doing. It could be an innocent coworker lunch break, or was it more? There seemed to be something big between Angelina and him at that ball for the way he stormed out, but maybe Jorge misjudged, but who was he kidding that rarely happened. Eyes focusing on Emily and Mariel he got a little lost in his thoughts, but came back as Tori spoke.
Pastry? Yes that would probably be a good idea. "Sure thing" He turned to order a coffee for himself and a sandwich, plus two pastries for them. Automatically he thought about ordering something to have sent over to Mariel and Emily, but he was conflicted. It was a no win situation for him at the moment. He had to think what was best with Mariel and keeping a low profile from her so Emily wouldn't flip was probably the best, so he didn't order for them, just him and Tori.
Turning back to Tori he looked down at the paper. Sighing a bit he tried to figure out the best way to put it. A smile crossed him at your brunette. She was his brunette. He wrote as he talked:
Quote:
Yes Simon is the blond. He's MLE. I thought he was dating a friend of mine, but now I'm not so sure. I have no clue who is with him. Her name is Mariel Morgan. She's the new sports and games department head and she is very off limits, because she's my girlfriend.
There was that clear enough for her. The rest of the Ministry they could have a field day. Bring down and point fingers at whatever they wanted, but he wished to leave Sports and Games alone, unless something huge that was out of his control happened.
After sliding the notes back her way he leaned back sipping his coffee. "Younger while the students are getting older." His brain was working quickly and he leaned closer to Tori without even thinking. " I wrote the article for the De Talone Case. This sounds way to close. Though those kids were some what frozen in time. Do you think the professor has something to do with it?" He liked pointing fingers so why not start pointing. He had his sights set on that feisty headmistress he kept hearing about, but if Tori had another angle he was sure to listen.
That was one way of looking at it. Emily could see how it seemed that way, so she couldn't argue against it, but it wasn't something she would openly want or need to acknowledge. She just did what she did best, she got on with things. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Indulging in a bit more cinnamon scroll - pausing between small bites to suck the sugar off her fingers, Emily nod her head. Yeah. Grace, under fire, all that jazz. "When it's called for, we do what's necessary to progress." Unless your fight or flight reflex was broken and you were the type to opt to flee, then no, hardly progressive. But those were minor details and completely irrelevant to her.
In the silence that followed, Emily contentedly finished off her scroll, washing it down with a bit more latte before engaging with her company again. Solitude was still her preference, even if people were somewhat more tolerable. Mariel of course, was different to people in general. School, Quidditch and now work was seeing to that. No complaints here but...
Newbies...
This newbie still had her attention. It was a little uncouth of her to simply make herself welcome at their table. Emily herself had at least had the decency to ask if the seat was available. Not simply helping herself to it like this one had.
Being new, was hardly an excuse for her behaviour... but it was done now, so she would live.
Mariel seemed more the conversationalist in the group, and Emily was more than happy to let them do the talking while she sat and watched and perhaps pretended for a moment that she was sociable. Sitting with people counted, right? Maybe. It was only after a short moment that she figured she could make an effort. "We're dealing..." was her contribution. Not seeing any need to elaborate on the fact, or discuss locations, nope. No need for details. But indeeedddd, how were IMC holding up? Emily leaned forward in her seat, a hand cradling what was left of her latte.

A haunted asylum? No, thank you! She supposed she was lucky. "We've had a few, ah, close calls." Muggles tended to wander where magic could be uncovered. They were bound to notice something fishy.
Cynthia now thought maybe she wasn't welcome, especially to Emily, yet her curiosity still urged her on. She began, "Oh, that's good." The other witch didn't seem to provide much, so why should she? "So are we, as far as I can tell. We're working hard, but getting anywhere? Not quite yet..."
She chomped on her tuna sandwich with determination. Surely she could get something out of these women. Mariel seemed the more likely choice. They were both Heads, so they would know things Cynthia wouldn't.
Finished with her tuna croissant, Mariel allowed her eyes to rest for a moment on Emily's cinnamon scroll as she picked it apart before glancing up at her again with a light smile. "Are the pastries good here? Was thinking about picking some up to take home.." And as it was her first time here, she could use a recommendation. Not that she knew if Emily had been here before or not, but at least she could tell her if those cinnamon things were any good.
Do what's necessary. Yes, Mariel thought that would be an accurate view on leadership, especially in their current state, she thought as she took another long, contemplative sip of her latte. "Certainly.." she said, slowly nodding, her thoughts drifting a bit. "Don't be so modest though, it takes a certain type of person to step into that role," she added with a small smile, allowing her green eyes to drift back to the woman sitting across from her. Give credit where it's due, and take it also. And though she would have loved to indulge her fellow Department Head in more conversation of the sort, she was reluctant to expand much more on the topic, not knowing their present company at all.
Look at what she was reduced to. Small talk and cautious conversation. It was hard not to feel a twinge of resentment for the awkwardness that was now present, though she supposed that she could just get up and leave if she wanted to. But it was her lunch break after all and she wasn't exactly ready to head back. Shame really, because she enjoyed Emily's company and actually wanted to bend her ear a bit about Department Head things, finding it lucky they had bumped into each other today. Another time though. Besides.. Mariel had manners.. she would use them unless pushed too far. She wasn't willing to just be rude to anyone new, trying to find a way to fit in.
Though the more this Cynthia talked, Mariel couldn't help but to feel a nagging thought at the back of her head. Could be just normal small talk, trying to be friendly and meet some people in the community though the brunette had found it odd that she had zeroed in on them both. She felt she had covered all she was willing with the current state of the Ministry. It was interesting to know what others thought of their own locations though, not that their challenges seemed to be all that different than her own in one way or another.
Mariel nodded lightly as the IMC woman spoke, though her green eyes soon snapped to her face as she gave her a warning look. Did she just use the word muggle.. in a muggle establishment? "I'd watch my wording if I were you," she said keeping her tone low and level. No, she wasn't one of hers, though she might consider herself lucky not to be. It really would not do any of them well to draw unwanted attention. She finished the last of her latte. Did she want another was the question, though she glanced at Cynthia again. Disgruntled by her situation? She couldn't quite tell, though it was something for everyone to manage, wasn't it? "Close calls..?" she started lightly, quite curious on that point though.

Disgruntled by her situation? She couldn't quite tell, though it was something for everyone to manage, wasn't it? "Close calls..?" she started lightly, quite curious on that point though.
Now that she was sitting, and she was engaged in conversation, Emily wasn't in as great a hurry to rush back to her hole in the ground - and that left her considering another snack before returning. Networking is what she was doing at the minute... with Mariel at least, the other woman was an unknown entity at this stage, but perhaps she could prove to be of some use - maybe. Mariel was at least as tolerable as she remembered, and more to the point, perhaps even welcome company. Either way, there would be times where they'd need to work closely on matters of security, so developing this relationship was in their best interest. Emily nod her head, a satisfied smile on her lips, "It's hard to go wrong where sugar's involved..." not to mention all the butter and cinnamon and vanilla that was involved. "But I have a rather active sweet tooth, so consider me biased." Food was food to her, once it went in, it all ended up in the same place regardless.
Her smile didn't falter at Mariel's continued flattery, but she was squirming on the inside. Compliments were rarely well received, she simply didn't know what to do with them, or how to respond. Busying herself with a sip of her latte, Emily hid a smirk. Modesty was something she had in abundance, it wasn't the first time it had come up in conversation. "Thanks," she started awkwardly, wanting to elaborate on the point but eventually she opted not to. Oddly enough, the thought of insisting she was too modest, didn't sound modest at all and this was something she wasn't comfortable with. "Anyone can step into the role, it's what they do with it that matters," she pointed out, refusing to accept that stepping into a position even under poor circumstances was worth a pat on the back. It wasn't, not in her book.
It was a strange day, she was only just deciding that. Randomly catching up with Mariel was one thing, the random that joined them was another entirely... but she couldn't shake the feeling she was being watched, that they were being watched. It wasn't something she was concerned about. Emily wasn't in the habit of stating things out loud in public that she wouldn't feel comfortable announcing to the media. And on that note... the media. She didn't have to turn in her seat, or glance around as if scoping out the place, no, she could be subtle - and in that, it was difficult to miss the egotistical journalist, Jorge. Wonderful.
Her attention was still focused on her present company, and she couldn't help but arch a brow at the mention of muggles. The term itself wouldn't raise much of any suspicion with the muggles themselves, but Mariel wasn't wrong to warn the woman off it. The close calls part though... Merlin. This is why they all needed muggle evasion training. Those just-in-case moments.
As for the working hard and getting nowhere part... well that was full of promise. "Should start picking up momentum sooner or later," she mused, her attempt at sounding conversational, even if she didn't have anything to add to the topic of conversation. Especially not with a journalist listening in.

Yes the waitress was gone so they had a tad more freedom in their speech. His attention back to Sophie, Simon bit the inside of his cheek as he tried to remember the correct answer to her question. A guess was better then simply shrugging and say he didn't know when it wasn't the whole truth. "Jacob, the Ravenclaw captain, whom I'm not sure you knew. Or possible Legend." The former she certainly knew since they had all been in the same house, same age and worked as student leaders together, at least once Patroculus had had to leave school.
"For the most part," he said taking a sip from his drink. "Thought it has had its surprises. How about you?" he asked, turning the tables as he lowered his mug back down to the table top. It was then he noticed the reflection of movement off to one side. Two persons...and Simon couldn't help the nagging feeling of awareness. The one he had nearly dropped since he was off-duty and trying to relax somewhat. But at the moment he couldn't see clearly lest he make himself obvious, his seat not the best in the corner booth.
Relax...he silently berated himself. He was out catching up with an old friend. Could be nothing but MLE paranoia.

"Well thank you," Tori giggled a little. She liked Jorge too, thought she could learn a lot from him, and NOT just how to flirt information out of folks. He was one smooth operator though. Just look at the way his sneaky reporter eyes were darting around the café, even now! She mimicked his sneaky eyeing of people but was pretty sure as soon as she turned away, they were all eyeing her back.
Hmmph. So she stole another peek at their written conversation while he ordered.
Quote:
So it looks like we could have a gossip article (even if it's not for the DP, if you catch my drift) AND a daily news piece. Interesting. Nice catch you got there.
His little girlfriend. She smirked, but didn't comment on it. The Hogwarts story was much more interesting. "The old one was named....Shir....S...hold on, I wrote it down." Tori flipped back a few pages in her notebook. "Sherman! And the young one, the one I think was a professor, was Abraham." She nodded. Yes, she was sure that was their names.
"But listen, Jorge, you're not going to make my cousin out to be the bad guy in all this, right? I can understand interviewing her and whatever.... but if my family were to find out I contributed to this article in any way..." They'd think of her as more of a black sheep than they already did.

"Oh!" Cynthia gasped. How could she be so stupid? "Right..." That was the disadvantage, she tended to believe, to being pureblood. You never quite got used to being around muggles.
"Yeah, close calls," she began again, eager to move on to another topic. "Well, they just go about their business, but every once in a while, they'll bump into us and you know... They're mostly just confused by us and our vocabulary, and I hope it stays at that level. The receptionist especially puts us at this risk."
She too eyed Emily's cinnamon roll. Sugar was not for her as much as coffee, but it looked delicious. This café had very excellent reviews, and she'd chosen it over the other restaurant on the street. But she was only there for a light lunch, nothing else. She finished off the first half of her sandwich with satisfaction.

He looked up from his sandwich with the giggle and couldn't help but laugh. Tori was different than the usual coworkers he had. They either kept to themselves, were different, or just if a chick on the only deals with fashion and gossip, but she really seemed to know her stuff and he liked that. "So how long have you been at the Prophet again?" She had been there before he had started or well he thought at least. Taking another bite he figured getting to know her better would be a good idea.
Sipping at his coffee he glanced at the notebook. The words made him scowl a bit. He liked to have information such as Simon and Angelina, but a gossip column he really wasn't impressed with. He liked to use that type of info to get to people or to have leverage to get what he wanted. His eyes watching Simon for a few moments. If he was dating Angelina Jorge could use this a leverage so his friend wouldn't find out her boyfriend was getting cozy with someone else. He really wanted to find out who this woman was and what if anything was going on.
Quote:
You can do what you want with it, but gossip really isn't my thing. I like this information for leverage, get what I need using it.
I'm more interested if with all these random buildings is security even up to par and how's the ministers 'office' compared to the rest of the dumps.
I'm not using her for my own benefit if that's what you're getting at. We've been on and off since before she was department head. .
He glanced over at Emily and Mariel with a smile across his face. She was a great catch. He wanted to go over to her, but staying where he was was more important for both of them at the moment. He did wonder who the other one was though. His thought interrupted as he heard Tori again. "Sherman and Abraham got it. I'm going to head to a match this weekend to have a look around." He wanted to see first hand talk to some of the students even.
His eyes met her and shock went over him, "Wait? Your cousin is hat headmistress? The one that keeps letting all those things happen at that school." Where was all his notes, maybe he could get some info from Tori about some of this stuff. "You know I'm working on another piece about the odd things that happen there an now one being held accountable, maybe you can find some inside information for me." You know he won't make the headmistress look that bad if she could help. "Don't worry they won't find out you helped me unless you want them too." He'd give her credit if she helped, but only if she wanted it.
Jacob, Ravenclaw Captain?
The name didn't ring a bell or make a face pop out her. Legend however was more familiar. Nodding she smiled. "You're right. I didn’t know Jacob very well but definitely Legend. We had many prefect patrols of the halls and corridors together." After Patroclus sadly, had had to leave Hogwarts. Sophie wondered what had happened to her ex-fellow prefect after he had left school. She knew he hadn’t come back to Hogwarts to finish his last two years of school at least. "Did you keep in touch with Patroclus after he left school?"
Taking another sip of her coffee Sophie gestured to the scone tray. "Feel free to take a scone if you're hungry. I can't eat all of them, anyway." It would be a shame if they went to waste since the scones were quite yummy. "It's has its up and downs definitely. What I like though is that every new patient I see has a different reason for seeking healer assistance. That makes it interesting and exciting." Hopefully that didn’t make her crazy in Simon eyes?
A feeling had come over her while she talked to Simon. Sophie was probably imagining it. Most people didn’t pay much attention to other people when they were out in a public so why did she have the instinct feeling of being watched? Had the coffee gone to her head?

Mariel wasn't so sure she could say the same about herself when it came to having a sweet tooth. Certainly she did like to indulge in something decadent once in a while, though she felt that she had grown out of the sweet phase just a bit. Even if it felt like a lifetime ago, she could vaguely remember the trunk full of chocolate frogs she would stock up on, but she honestly couldn't think of the last time she had one of those, though she still loved her lemondrops. The brunette enjoyed her savory as much as the sweet, often with each other to balance them out. But pastries were somehow the exception and she was even more resolved to take some home with her as fresh baked was always the best. "Biased or not, you seemed to like it and I'll take that as a recommendation," she said with a hint of a grin. "Besides, it smelled delicious." Though really it was a bakery, the entire building was filled with delicious aroma. "It'll work for a quick breakfast tomorrow too." She never seemed to have much time in the morning, having to leave such an allowance to take that dreadful bus into work. Something to take with her would do well.
Green eyes watched Emily carefully as she sipped her latte. She hadn't intended to bring about any further awkwardness, though she had gotten the feeling that the other woman was growing uncomfortable with her comments regarding her position. Flattery really wasn't what she was aiming for. It wasn't easy having to clean up someone else's mess and assuming responsibility and, even if past performances from the MLE had Mariel, and likely much of the public, reluctant to see them as reputable as they could be, it seemed the current Head was making strides in correcting that. Mariel certainly had no trouble taking credit when she felt it was deserved but she also knew not everyone felt that way. "That is a very good point," she nodded a bit, looking down at her empty cup. She decided that she would have that second latte now. "It is often a true test of character." She would have to admit she knew plenty who tried to step up to lead that ended in disaster though the brunette was hesitant to expand on that thought. Fair enough, she could veer from that line of discussion.
Mariel glanced up to see the woman across from her focusing on some point past her. It did pique her curiosity if only for a moment, but Mariel was not uncouth enough to turn in her seat and follow Emily's line of vision. Since it had remained unspoken, she wasn't sure it was of any importance and instead turned her eyes to Cynthia. She offered the woman a light smile as she realized her mistake, figuring the woman would be more aware now that her words had been caught. No harm, no foul, really, as it drew no attention, but a bit of prudence never hurt, though Mariel felt no need to say anymore about it.
She turned a little more towards Cynthia as she spoke of her close call experiences. Sounded like they could use their own Obliviator on loan.. were the muggles there really that nosy to not keep to their own business? Though perhaps it was to be expected when new people moved into an already inhabited building.. "I suppose curiosity is an innate human trait," she mused aloud. "Regardless of who it is.." Mariel considered Cynthia's next words. "The receptionist? She's not employed by IMC?" Was she a muggle? That would pose some challenges, though perhaps it was a situation that could not be helped. Unless Cynthia had meant that the receptionist didn't have much sense when it meant dealing with muggles. Then that would be another challenge in itself.
The 28 year old glanced down at her empty cup again. She still had time and wasn't exactly eager to return to her drafty hanger, so a little more sustenance wouldn't be unwelcome. "I'm going for another latte.. anyone else need something?" That, plus her pastries to take with her when it was time to head back. And she thought it nice to offer.

Simon could almost visible see the recollection of the people he had mentioned, nodding at her comment about the past and the possibilities of Jacob. He had had his own share of duties to go along with prefect patrols when they pulled in the captains for assistance. And he doubted the guy would get along very much with anyone outside his own house, not even his fellow student leaders. It wasn't like he had the best personality, only suited for pirate ships and beating bludgers, and what they hit, to a pulp.
"Nah...I can't say I did. Nor saw his brother again either," he answered to the negative. It actually might have been fun to work with the guy he had only really met in passing at Borr's party. "He...Prometheus that is...worked in MLE before then," he added in case Sophie wondered where he had met the older man or why he would have thought to see him again.
He was about to turn down the offer of a scone when she seemed to persist that he have one. "Well I guess I can..." Simon mused as he gave in, taking one and breaking off a piece to eat as he listened to Sophie speak on her own work. "I can see that being a plus," he mused after she was done and he had swallowed after a sip to wash the bite down. "I mean who would want to do something where it was the same day in and day out. Could easily get boring. " Like a week of being stuck in the office doing paperwork.
Or worse.
More movement and at first Simon had felt it was simply customers moving about. But the woman seemed familiar and so he turned his head a little. Was that Mariel?

Brother?
Patroclus had a brother?
Sophie was about to ask how Simon knew Patroclus had a brother when he provided her with an explanation. Apparently Patroclus’s brother had worked for MLE when Simon had started there after graduating from Hogwarts. "I haven’t run into Patroclus either." Sophie wondered if she’d even recognize him if she saw him again.
Taking another coffee sip she picked up and nibbled on her scone again as Simon succumbed and did the same even if he seemed reluctant, causing her to ask. "Don't you like scones?" Or was there something else behind the reluctance? Sophie had some ideas spurred by her healer instincts but she kept them to herself. Nodding she responded. "Definitely, I can't see myself doing something where nothing unexpected ever happened. I need change. It's the same for you right? I bet your job isn't the same day in and day out?" It seemed unlikely since criminals always came up with new enterprising ways to cause trouble.
Seeing Simon look over at another of the cafe's customers she asked with a small hand gesture towards Mariel. "Do you know that woman?"
At least the creepy feeling of being watched was gone.

"I'm going for another latte.. anyone else need something?" That, plus her pastries to take with her when it was time to head back. And she thought it nice to offer.
The fact that the two women had eyed her choice of pastry didn't go unnoticed. Nope. And considering they had both gone with the more filling options on the cafe menu, she felt as though the roles perhaps ought to have been reversed. Perhaps. "Cinnamon scrolls are my favoruites ... anything with cinnamon is, really," and look at that, she was exposing her weakness to a stranger and Mariel who she didn't know all too well -- all things considered. She shrugged, the recommendation was the least of her worries for the day.
Emily listened as Cynthia spoke of IMC's muggle woes, and agreed with Mariel's response. It was an innate thing. People.. were people... and they tended to get in the way of things, inserting their presence where it wasn't welcome. Was it any wonder she didn't do the whole social thing very well? Nevertheless, she was managing this lunch meeting thing that had happened to her. "Suppose it could be worse," she noted. For the most part terminology could be shrugged off, so long as the offending witch or wizard wasn't stupid enough to let something obvious slip... but who knew. And ew, muggle receptionist? No thanks, it was a good thing she still had Muriel, the woman was easy to please and downright fierce in her own way. "I take it you're not expecting any visiting delegates any time soon?" she asked, curious. From security's perspective she's not heard of anything, then again she was no longer heading the division, she was free to focus on her other duties now.
Inspecting her watch, Emily figured it was about time to head back, she could only afford a few more minutes before she started feeling lazy -- something she couldn't tolerate unless it was a weekend with little work to actually plough through. "I could do with another too, to go," she mused, fishing out a muggle bill from her pocket. "Would you mind?" ... because she'd taken her question as a legitimate offer, thus saving her from leaving her own seat for the time being.
oh we're still watching you lot. STILL WATCHING. *watches* :D

The one that keeps letting all those things happen at that school." "Oh about a year," Tori waved her hand like it wasn't important. Which, it wasn't, really. Sure it was a job and a cool status symbol and all that, but it wasn't like she HAD to work to live comfortably. "I was part-time at first," Tori added, by way of explanation. "You?"
She lightly flipped a page in the notebook to write back.

You should go snooping around them! If you can get in, then obviously some kind of terrorist or security threat can get in.
Not getting at anything! She's pretty though. Go you.
See, just being friendly. Tori continued sipping casually at her drink too. Geez, Jorge was a suspicious one, wasn't he? He must have had bad luck in his past relationships... or no luck at all, to be so sensitive about it. "Let me know how it goes." Hopefully her tip would be of some use.
Tori couldn't help the second small laugh that escaped from her strawberry lips. "Yes, Annie is THAT Headmistress. Her maiden name is Bunbury, after all. There's only so many of us." The ones that were out there, with the exception of her father, were awesome though. She twirled a lock of hair around her finger and looked around the room, as though seeking a distraction. "The offer to help you is tempting, but... I think I'd have to get something out of it. Something other than credit." She was a Slytherin, after all. She couldn't just help him for no reason.

A year, Jorge thought about this. That would have been after he had started. Did he not realize this or had it just seemed she had been there. "I'm really surprised our paths haven't crossed more really." She was hot, young, but hot so how hadn't he noticed her. She had to be hiding or so into her fashion articles she wasn't around the office much, but her second statement gave him another reason. Part time so she might not have been in when he was. That seemed more reasonable. "Oh I've been there about a year and a half. Moved here from Spain once I had the position."
As he spoke he had read what she wrote and forgetting about a gossip column was a sure thing. Maybe he could teach her how to use information like cheating boyfriends to her benefit. There could be a good story that comes out of it really. MLE employee more worried about his next girlfriend than worrying about the ministry being safe or even finding criminals still on the loose. Wasn't he on that Talone case? Hmm Jorge's mind started questioning somethings as he glanced over to the two. Sipping on his coffee he wrote a little in the notebook.
Quote:
Snooping sounds like a great idea actually. I think I might try to start with a random department. Mysterious or Creature? Maybe we both should try different places. See if some are better than others. See which places the ministry finds more important.
She's a lot more than just her looks believe me she can keep you on your toes.
He grinned writing the last part. He knew Mariel could hold her own pretty well and even if Tori didn't listen and went snooping for something in Mariel's department it wouldn't be just him at her. He had already put the department head through a lot with the Maria stuff and the curses against him, he didn't want to be the reason she had issues as a brand new department head even with his feelings towards all ministry's.
"Sure I will, but I might be coming to you for more info since you have some sources being not from the area I'm still trying to build some acquaintances in all areas." That was coming a little slower than he would like, but he'd continue to work on the needed 'friends'. "Well I didn't know her maiden name not living around here before." He had to eye her and one of his signature smirks leaning closer. "and what would that be? What does Tori want?" This was interesting to him. He always liked these type of things though his reasoning behind them had changed a bit, his eyes shifted towards his girlfriend who seemed to still not know he was there. It really as for the best that she didn't. Brown eyes back to Tori he waited for the answer.

It really as for the best that she didn't. Brown eyes back to Tori he waited for the answer.
"Oh we've crisscrossed here and there." Tori munched through a piece of pastry nonchalantly. "But I don't hang around the offices much. They're so boooooooooooring." But he'd only been there a little longer than her, so. "Guess we'll have to hang out more," she sorta grinned at him. Spain ooh la la. Spicy. Jorge was SPICY. Hehe.
Tori had noticed him glancing at the blonde guy more than one time but wasn't really interested in him. Her eyes were on the girls' table. Why? Because they didn't exactly look like friends, but they were all sitting together and chit-chatting together. Why? Her eyes drifted back to their little notebook.

Good luck with the Department of Mysteries. They don't call them Mysteries for nothing! I might try the Minister's Office, since that one is pretty important? If you want me to help, that is.
Haha I'll leave that to you. Not interested, trust me.
Tori's eyes were mostly on the back of the MLE woman's head anyway. MLE people were so interseting, right? Like Aspen? Were they all as weird as Aspen though? She was curious enough to find out.
"Ugh yeah all right," Tori agreed, cupping her hands around her coffee for one last sip. Yeah yeah, Bunbury wasn't a Spanish name. How much longer was he going to play that 'not from around here' card? She smirked as he leaned in. "Well it starts with a g and ends with alleon and can be used to buy Princess Tori many a shiny thing." And she liked shiny things. She liked them A LOT.
But, if he wasn't keen on paying her... "I also accept favors." Tori winked her long lashes at him. And she had a great favor in mind....

Crisscrossed? Well that got a laugh, "If we had crisscrossed any paths I think I would know. I don't forget pretty faces." That was an honest answer. Jorge neither missed them nor forgot them. He liked to know where they were and how easy they were to work with. The ladies always seemed to give him what he wanted and were the best for sources, so if they would have crossed he would have remembered. Unless it was just at a staff meeting or something. Then yes he might not have even been looking up all that much. "Well our paths have met now that's all that counts."
He was really beginning to think this was a good idea. Coming here and not just for the people around, but to get to know this coworker. She was interesting and he felt he had found someone maybe as equal to him when it came to the ways he liked to do his job. "The office does what it needs to do, but I agree this is a little more interesting." He nodded in agreement "Yes we will have to hangout more." Hangout, was that the word. He thought for a moment before pushing it off.
He kept noticing her glances towards the women and tried to read her. He was really good at reading people, but Tori he wasn't so sure just yet. Which woman was she glancing at and what did she know that kept her there. He glanced at the notebook and thought a moment.

I've had way worse than anything mysterious could dish out. Plus they aren't at the ministry they are in muggle buildings. Can't be all that bad.
I have a connection at the ministry office, so owl if you do end up there and get into any trouble. I can be of help using him.
He did want to trust her, but trust wasn't something he handed out, so for now he'd take her word, but would see about the trust. He glanced seeing Mariel get up. Was she leaving? He than realized who Tori was really focusing on and reached for the notebook again.

Don't stare at Emily too much. She probably will know. She can be rather feisty and is one of the only women I've come across that doesn't take to me.
He chuckled as he wrote the last part browns eyes looking back to Tori, "Usually one of my stronger areas." finishing his paper thoughts with words so it wasn't to much of an awkward silence between them. [b] "It usually works nicely with the job, but I assume you know this." She was pretty and seemed to be so much like him. She had to bat her eye lashes to get what she wanted here and there. Hell she seemed to be doing it to him right now.
She wanted money, well if she wanted it she'd really have to give him some good leads and information. He wasn't going to just hand money over, but that didn't concern him at all. Money really wasn't something he worried about, though he should try to keep better track at times.
His grin grew even bigger when she said about a favor. His eyes locked on her forgetting about the others for a moment. He was interested. Not in her per say in that way, but interested in what the offer might be. "A favor? Well what kind of favor. Maybe we can work something out." He was always up for a you scratch my back I'll scratch yours type of thing.

So that was a no-go for seeing their former classmate from either of them. Patroclus seemed to have vanished, at least from the British Isles where their circles ran. But then seeing as he wasn't a native of the area, it was likely that both siblings were staying around their native lands or somewhere else entirely.
Huh...he didn't like scones? "No...I do. Its not that. I'm just trying not to overstay my break." He glanced briefly at his watch to check the time, looking relieved not too much time had elapsed since he had entered the cafe. "Still have some work to handle today, but I'm good for now." The bakery and cafe wasn't that far from both the Underground and his designated area, the ship. And it certainly gave him a better feeling then the ship which Simon still had some issue with. Bloody pirates. "Right," he said in agreement towards non-boring and simplistic jobs as he took another sip. "It certainly has a way of surprising you."
He paused in taking another bite from the scone he had already broken off when Sophie questioned him. The auror hadn't meant to have his look to the familiar woman to be obvious, but the angle had been tight. "We've met at functions a few times. She works at the ministry." But the question was...was Mariel the reason he felt like he was being watched?
Nope there was something else. He just needed to work out finding out without being too open and not making Sophie uncomfortable. Simon had joined her, interrupting her alone time.
It was settled then. Mariel was sold on the cinnamon scrolls to take with her, certainly she had had enough to fill her for now, but the idea of a quick pastry breakfast was somehow appealing in addition to a sweet snack after work. And though she was sure it hadn't been Emily's intention, the woman's vague zeal for the treats nudged her in that direction. The latte was another story.. she hadn't quite had her fill of the sweetened caffeine, though as she caught Emily's glance to her own watch, the brunette realized that time was growing short. Might as well get her own to go too.
She turned in her seat, facing outwards to get up, glancing back at Emily as she pulled out some muggle money. "Oh.. no," she started, waving a dismissive hand. "I got it this time.." It wasn't a big deal really plus it would make things easier if she didn't have to worry about change or paying for things separate. She resumed her objective as she turned back towards the aisle and stood from her chair, pausing however when green eyes locked onto someone familiar.
Her look of mild surprise at the unexpected sight of him, soon turned into a smile for the same reason. A pleasant turn of events to see him on a chance outing.. she thought for a brief second about going over to his table, until green eyes shifted to follow the direction of his gaze to the redhead he was leaning towards. Mariel's smile faded to a curious look as she considered her presence. A working lunch possibly, given the time of day and she wasn't exactly one to jump to conclusions, though she did briefly wonder how long he had been here and whether or not he had seen her. Of course she had her back to him somewhat, but he had been in a more optimal location to see her.. She narrowed her eyes a bit wondering why he hadn't at least come over to say hi.
"Be right back," she mumbled distractedly to her tablemates as she walked over to the counter to get in line for her order. Mariel considered herself a fair person and she could lend the benefit of the doubt.. to a point. That window of time never lasted long however, though for him she was willing to offer a little more. For now though, she'd wait in this line for her things if he felt the need to acknowledge her presence. Because certainly he could see her now being in plain view.. provided he wasn't too distracted. She glanced back that way, first catching another familiar person in her sight. Odd that she would see so many people she knew in one instance, especially in a muggle locale. But she pushed that thought away for now, simply offering Simon a small smile before shifting her green eyes to another table. Her focus was elsewhere.

Speaking of Mariel, something was bugging him about the woman and Simon couldn't quite put his finger on it. Granted the fact they had only really been in the same atmosphere on two occasions...the bowling alley and the ministry-wide training so he hadn't got the best reading on her. He caught the smile seemingly aimed at him and his curiousity rose. Whether she was watching them or not was just another thing in his thoughts and the auror decided to see if he could work any answers out. "Will you excuse me for a moment?" he asked politely, excusing himself from the table and from Sophie as he got back up to his feet. Hopefully his friend wouldn't mind the further interruption.
Approaching the counter, thankfully no one had been faster to join the queue so he was right behind the department head. That reminder alone gave him an idea. "Hey..." he said greeting the woman he had come up behind on the line. "I hear congradulations are in order," Simon added with a smile. Nice little way to start a conversation and be nice and supportive at the same time.

Emily didn't insist on forcing her money on Mariel, it would simply be a matter of returning the favour the next time, after all it was implied that there would be a next time in the woman's response. Something Emily found she didn't object to. "Sure, thanks," she replied swiftly before pocketing the cash again and waiting patiently as Mariel saw to their order.
Cynthia... Emily felt sorry for her already. She knew she wasn't the best company, silences were what she did best, and so the stiff silence between them now was to be expected. Though she was sitting and seemingly enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the cafe, she had her eyes and ears elsewhere. Jorge's presence was not forgotten, along with his red-headed company. She felt the looks she was getting, but wasn't fazed by them... yet. Then of course there was Bennett, she noted his movements but disregarded them quickly.
Left to her thoughts, a mental checklist of the never ending things to-do in the day, the week and beyond, Emily considered what the weekend might hold for her. She was adamant on getting some work done at home on Saturday at the least, if even only for a half day, but then Sunday would be free for welcome distractions.
Still vaguely watching the two at the table nearby, Mariel's eyes fell on the notebook laid open between them. Most likely a working lunch as she had thought, though she wasn't sure she liked how closely he was leaning towards her. Not something she was going to dwell on right this instant as she had other things to tend to and her eyes flicked over to the menu board. He could speak to her himself or else she'd make it a point to have a few words with him later.
For now, the brunette wondered if what she had in mind to order would be enough since she had her eye on the red velvet cupcakes earlier. Though that might prove to be too indulgent and she could certainly come back next week. The tuna croissant was too good not to have again. Making up her mind, she stepped forward in line as it got closer to her turn before she heard a voice behind her causing her to turn fully around.
"Oh.. Simon, hello," Mariel said, smiling at the man, though slightly surprised he had gotten in line behind her. She hadn't seen him walk over from his own table, but she supposed she had been in her own thoughts. And while the line wasn't very long, she certainly wasn't opposed to friendly company and light conversation while she waited. Her smile grew at his words, immensely proud of her promotion. "Well, thank you. I am quite pleased with the position." The situation could have been better of course, but she was confident it was nothing she couldn't handle.
"You know, I didn't realize this was such a Ministry hot spot," she said lightly before turning slightly more to the front. It was somewhat strange to her that a little muggle cafe would have quite a few people that worked there, especially being her first time here. Maybe it was the location.

Was it him or did the woman seem a little surprised by his appearance? Had she been waving at someone else? Had she not seen him there? Or just hadn't expected him to come up to the counter as well since he hadn't thought to even move until after she had passed him.
"You're welcome," he returned, "I can imagine." To be honored in such away was a great achievement, even much moreso then his own Employee of the month title several months before. At the mention of the cafe being popular for them, Simon couldn't help to agree with Mariel. "I hadn't either," the auror remarked. "But then I suppose after the incident at work a couple of years ago, there skepticism of how well the other place really is. I wonder how well this café was used back then."
He debated his cover story for following her up to the line, his own gaze moving to the menu boards. Maybe some pastries to take back home since he usually didn't do much for breakfast. Thinking on food, Simon's gaze drifted to the woman. "So...have you gone out to celebrate? Pretty big deal."

Awwwwhaha, he thought she was pretty! Tori might have flushed a little at that comment, except that she really did like hearing it. Hehe. "Careful what you say to me, mister," she reached out and tapped his hand with a small wink. "Your girlfriend might get jealous." Though that would just make Tori's day.... hehe!
"I'm a good tour guide," Tori mentioned with a small nod, "in case you need to know the top places to hunt down sources." Since he was new to London and all... newish, anyway. She might have grown up in LA but she had top dog connections over here. She picked up the pen again.

Well good luck is all I have to say.
Tori couldn't help it, she stole another peek at this infamous Emily woman. She laughed a little as her eyes returned to Jorge. "Yes, well, what can I say. I'm a hit with the boys." Boys, not men, because she wasn't THAT old. And no one could really argue that her ex was all that grown up. Meanwhile.... were all the Ministry people on the move or was that just her? Tori's eyebrows went up a little. It looked like that blonde Simon guy was moving in on Jorge's squeeze. She subtly tilted her head in their direction and wrapped a strand of hair around one finger, hoping that would attract Jorge's attention to LOOOOK.
"Just... let's just say you'll owe me one. We can figure out the deets later." Tori waved her free wrist at him. Her attention was totally on the Ministry dramallama about to go down right now.
