Pequod Café and Bakery

Pequod Café and Bakery

Nestled on a street corner, just a few blocks from the entrances to the Ministry of Magic, sits the Pequod. Brushed aluminum tables and matching curved seats stretch down the block from the door, inviting anyone who wants to stop for a cup of coffee or a scone to take a seat. Pale green and white umbrellas protect customers from the elements.

Inside, the cafe is packed with customers from early morning through lunch. The small booths and tables turn over customers quickly, although a savvy customer should be able to claim a spot for a few hours if she is willing to take the glares from the staff. The place smells like coffee and baked good throughout the day, a testament to the chalked menu boards hanging over the counter. From lunch onward, soups and sandwiches are available as well, and the cafe is a popular spot for Ministry employees who want to venture out of the building. This is an entirely Muggle establishment, though, so watch what you say or do in public.

Arms laden down with shopping bags Sophie Connolly made her way through London in search of the new Cafe and Bakery her mother had been raving about in her latest owl. A scone and a cup of coffee would sit nicely after spending most of the her day running in and out of shops on her day off from work.

Heading into the small cafe when she finally found it Sophie made a beeline for a empty corner booth. Sitting down she signalled a waitress that just past by her both. Ordering a large cup of coffee and tray of scones from her Sophie fished out her latest edition of the witch weekly. She took care to not flash around with it since she was sitting amongst muggles.

Mariel was doing her best to keep her frustrations at bay. She wasn't so sure it was just about the Muggle atmosphere, because normally she didn't mind those things even finding some of it quaint, but being immersed in it, well the most dilapidated bits of it, was wearing on her patience. She was sure it was more about her building needing to be condemned more than anything and the fact that it was difficult for her to help keep the spirits of her employees up long enough for them to get any work done. The 28 year old needed to get out of the crumbling rubble all around her even if just for a few minutes and decided to head out for a lunch break.

Unable to find Victoria to see if she wanted to accompany her, Mariel headed towards a more inhabited part of London, taking the horrid bus again. She didn't want to admit it to herself, but she was getting somewhat used to the public transportation. Not that she would ever prefer that over anything else. Once off the bus, she walked through the street, green eyes glancing to the building that hid the Ministry underneath. She certainly hoped someone would figure out this mess soon. She was anxious to get back to some semblance of normalcy.

It was her intention to go to Diagon Alley and she walked that way, but a small cafe caught her eye. Was it new? She knew this was still a Muggle area and had even visited some of the establishments here, but she was sure she had never ventured into this particular location. It looked promising and why not try something new.

A smile instantly came over her face as she pushed open the door and stepped inside. So chic and the aroma wafting around her was so enticing. Taking a few minutes to make up her mind as everything looked so tempting, Mariel ordered a tuna salad croissant and a caramel cafe latte. She would have to order some of the pastries to take home later, she thought, as she found a table in the somewhat crowded cafe.

While not the avid coffee drinker that most in his department were, Simon didn't mind the occasional cup in difference to his preferable cup of tea or even hot chocolate. And so the auror had decided to check out a new local that he had heard about through the grapevine of ministry employees. Ironically it was closer to the actual ministry of magic than most of not all of the new arrangements which made it just a tad odd to be finding it now.

Crossing the street from where he had spotted it, the young man stepped inside acting normal. Muggle local, muggle behavior, though it wasn't as if Simon was one for flashing his magic and such around. He looked around to spot a seat and to see if anyone familiar was around. It was a Ministry hot spot after all. Instead he did a double take as he spotted a seemingly familiar face not from the job but from school.

"Sophie?" he questioned curiously as he walked closer.

HogwartsStudent11 02-21-2014 07:59 PM

Cynthia came into the Café. She wouldn't normally have eaten at a restaurant, but after an incident with the Ministry toilet entrances, her lunch was soaked. The thing was, Cynthia had a little bit of a fear of restaurants. She always made her own food because you never know when something could be baked in peanut oil or have made cross-contamination with peanuts, which would make her go into anaphylactic shock and die. TMI, she thought to herself.
She was still surveying the menu as the waiter came.
"What can I get you, ma'am?" he asked.
"Do your tuna sandwiches have anything with peanuts?" She doubted it, but she had to make sure.
"No, they have tuna, lettuce, mayonnaise, and bread."
"Okay, I'll get that, then."
"Would ya like a drink with that?"
"No thank you."

Perhaps the best thing to have come out of today thus far, was an appointment cancellation. This effectively left a forty minute gap in her schedule for the day, and provided her with enough time to surface from the underground and grab herself some much needed sustenance. She had always anticipated a hectic and full start to the New Year, but with the lock out among other things, her time was scarce and more limited than before - if that were even possible. She'd considered a stop-in at the Ministers Office, but for such a short excursion, without food, well.. it'd have to wait, again.

Entering the cafe, Emily immediately approached the counter, knowing full well what she wanted. With a cinnamon scroll and a double shot latte, Emily turned to survey the space. She needed a seat, because there was no way she was going to go back to her hole in the ground just yet, a bit of vitamin D would do her wonders. It was then that she picked out a familiar face in the crowd.
"Mariel, mind if I join you?" she asked the woman upon her approach, she hadn't had the opportunity to congratulate the woman on her promotion, this might be that opportunity now.

The little cafe, no matter how busy, was providing the perfect distraction from Mariel's thoughts today. As she delved into her tuna salad croissant, she allowed her green eyes to drift along the crowd, people-watching for a few minutes, before she looked up at the menu board again. She could read it well enough from where she was sitting and thought it might do her well to decide on what to take with her now as her time was rather limited. Red velvet cupcakes sounded good..

She was soon snapped out of her reverie by a voice speaking her name and she looked back at her table to see a familiar face. "Emily.." Mariel allowed a small smile to appear on her lips at the sight of the woman. "Please.." She gestured to the open spot across from her at the question, though she would have likely offered anyway. "I could certainly do with the company." Things had been rather tense at G&S lately and maybe a change in conversation would be helpful. She took a sip of her latte. "So, how are things in your neck of the woods.. or.. below the ground?" She was rather curious how the other departments were making out and that's where MLE was, right?

There was no hesitancy in claiming the seat the moment Mariel greeted her. "Thanks," it was appreciated, cue reciprocated smile. Placing her glass down, Emily proceeded by pulling out the seat and plopping herself on it, setting her pastry in front of her. It didn't look nearly as filling as Mariel's order, but it was the cinnamon she craved more than anything else.

Company was not something Emily usually did, no, she preferred to avoid people at all cost, but today she'd make an exception - especially for a fellow Head. Her neck of the woods? Emily sipped at her latte before shaking her head side to side in thought. "It could be worse," she concluded, "I mean, it's hardly ideal, but we're settling into a routine." Needless to say they didn't have a great deal to work on, which seemed to pose a problem for some. Honestly, did they not have any initiative when it came to adapting to situations out of the norm?

...

...

"How about yourself? ... not the best of timing for you, and, congratulations by the way." If she hadn't stepped into the role last year, she'd have had a much harder time wrangling her employees into line and setting them on task, so she could appreciate how Mariel must have been feeling, all things considered. Lockouts were exhausting in that sense. With any luck they'd make some headway with that soon enough.

Sophie was just about to turn a page when a familiar voice addressed her. Tilting her dark brown haired head around, she exclaimed in happy surprise. "Simon?" Giving her fellow ex- Gryffindor a hug she smiled. "How have you been?"

He was right...it was her. The former Gryffindor housemate turning to him in response to his calling her name, smiling and hugging him in response. Simon returned it in kind, smiling at the coincidence. The auror hadn't seen her in ages, not since graduation really and here they run into each other and in muggle London no less. He did notice the not-so-unmagical periodical in her possession but didn't comment. It wasn't like anyone else would really notice.

Cynthia wasn't sure, but she thought she recognized some people from the Ministry. She was overwhelmed by all the muggles. Normally she wouldn't have, but she was also wearing robes, which probably meant they'd recognize her eventually anyway, so she made her way to sit down with two witches she barely knew. Blech, this was uncomfortable.
As she was coming to the other table, the waitress arrived.
"Bring it over here," Cynthia said, motioning to where she was headed. She plopped down at the table, and once the waitress had left, began to speak.
"I'm Cynthia de la Rosa," she introduced herself stiffly. "I work in the IMC department. And you two?"

Mariel gave a short nod as Emily took the offered seat and green eyes fell curiously over the other woman's order. A cinnamon scroll sounded good as well, at least as something to take home for later. She had needed something more substantial for her own lunch and was rather pleased with her tuna croissant. She'd keep this location in the back of her mind for future lunch options. Maybe Vic would want to accompany her sometime and a light frown fell over her face at the thought of their seemingly strained relationship. She quickly pushed the thought out of her mind and focused on the company at her table.

She listened to the MLE speak of her own experiences regarding the new arrangements and she nodded a bit in understanding as she sipped on her latte. She seemed to be remaining as positive as one could in such a situation and Mariel certainly knew the feeling. "Routine is crucial especially when things are so.. out of the ordinary," she mused aloud, agreeing with a thoughtful nod. An organized chaos perhaps, but she felt it lent some stability to being thrust into their less than ideal environments.

Green eyes found their way to Emily again as she offered her congratulations and Mariel could not help the small smile to cross her lips. She was rather happy with her appointment, no matter how dire the circumstances. "Well, thank you," she said with a small, appreciative bow of the head. "Certainly not the best of timing, no," she added with a shrug. She thought it difficult enough to slide into the managerial role without the added stress of relocating to a falling apart Muggle building. "Though I've always loved a challenge." She grinned a little at the thought, that indeed it was. "It does add considerably to the workload though, what with the cleaning, getting appropriate protection into place, and just keeping up worker morale." In addition to other things.

She took another sip of her latte as she considered the woman in front of her. She hadn't been a Department Head long either and had any of her own challenges, she was sure she could relate. "Have you found any difficulty in moving from being a peer among your co-workers to becoming their supervisor?" Just hypothetical, from one Head to another.

She raised an inquisitive eyebrow as the woman unceremoniously seated herself at their table, then shot a questioning glance at Emily. Friend of hers? But apparently not as the woman introduced herself to both of them, asking them the same rather abruptly. She was a little taken aback by the woman's boldness and simply gave her a side-long glance as she considered things. "Mariel Morgan.. Games and Sports," she finally answered, still watching her carefully. She supposed the woman recognized them from the Ministry though Mariel certainly couldn't place her. But it might do her well to be a little more careful in a Muggle establishment.

Tucking into her scroll, Emily teared away strips of pastry, essentially undoing the tight pastry coil to reveal the heavenly cinnamon sugar within. She didn't think it rude to eat with her fingers, and the thought hadn't even crossed her mind that it may be off-putting to her company. It was food. It was pastry. Cutlery only served to be an inconvenience in such circumstances. Raising a finger to her lips, Emily sucked off the sticky icing glaze that had clung to her fingertip.

Emily nod her head in agreement. Out of the ordinary, that was one way of putting it. "It will work for now, until they get restless..." which was possible considering how tightly strung most of them were. Taking a sip of her latte to wash down the pastry, Emily listened, curious to hear how Games and Sports were faring and how Mariel was finding her time as Head. Her lips curled in both amusement and understanding as Mariel conveyed her experiences. It wasn't easy, and it was certainly a heavier work load, especially now. "I completely understand where you're coming from," she mused, picking at her scroll again.

As for how she handled her promotion. Well that was going back some time. Though it was only a year, she felt it'd been a life time, the experience was certainly ageing her in that respect. "My views on life are skewed, apparently," she started, giving Mariel fair warning, "so I would assume my definition of difficulty is too." She didn't seem to see challenges in the same way that others did. Her smile extending to her hazel eyes, Emily continued. "I'll admit, it wasn't easy stepping up when I did, all things considered. And criticism was always to be expected regardless of my age or experience..." The whole de Talone and Ferguson was certainly put a spanner in the works for her from the word go. Picking up the department as it had been was not an easy task, and to think they had just been getting back on track when this all went south, again. At least it wasn't her fault, or at least, she didn't think it was. "However, I'm fortunate enough to have some great staff, so I can't say it was all that difficult. There have always been challenges, these ones are just different to what I was used to at the time." It was just one of those things. If she wasn't a workaholic to begin with, then she'd have had a hellish time, but it was nothing new to her. Her years of service and unparalleled work ethic had paid off in the end -- even if she missed being an active Auror.

Oh?

Emily exchanged a look with Mariel, it seemed this one wasn't hers which left her sitting and staring blankly. She knew muggles were weird creatures, but surely even they had their limits, no?

It wasn't until the woman introduced herself and her department that she blinked. IMC? ... Righto then.
"Emily Browne, Law Enforcement..." she supplied after Mariel's introduction.

...

Well this wasn't the least bit awkward. Emily popped some more scroll in her mouth and raised her glass to her lips, downing a considerable portion of her latte. Welcome to the party?

How many years had gone since she last saw Simon? Sophie tried to count but gave up. It was a nice coincidence though to run into Simon, here in London at the new bakery. Sliding back into the booth Sophie gathered up her witch weekly and pushed it down into one of her shopping bags.

Taking a sip of her coffee as Simon sat down across from her she smiled. "I've been okay too." This Cafe full of muggles probably wasn’t the best venue to drag up all her family drama. “And busy, I work at St Mungos now.”

Simon settled into place, his arms casually placed on the table before him as he listened for an answer of any type from her. He couldn't place anything from within his memory that gave him an idea on what to expect. Anything he had heard her say about her future from back then. Not that he needed to search back for Sophie answered straight away anyway. St. Mungos...certainly seemed fitting in some ways.

"That's great." And it was. And given how she had been in school, how they both had been at Hogwarts, was it any real wonder that they had both followed paths into public service?

"At the Ministry," he answered before adding in clarification. "I work in law enforcement." No specifics at the moment because auror was kind of something limited to the wizarding world after all. And mention of security, a normal, muggle-sounding profession, didn't come to mind at first to attach it at the end of his statement.

Quoting Mariel and Emily...

Cynthia was feeling like a daredevil just for going over. These two women, she was pretty sure, were department heads. Where did she fit in? But the regret of her infrequent bout of sociableness didn't show on her face as she bit into her tuna sandwich.
"I'm new," she explained, though they could maybe tell, "and so far it's hectic. How are your departments dealing with...you know...the problem." She jerked her head toward the regular entrances to the Ministry.
Cynthia was surprised at her own new nature. She guessed it was out of curiosity. The witch really wanted to know more about the blocked-Ministry situation.

It warmed her heart to know that Simon approved of what she worked with. Most of her friends from Hogwarts that Sophie still kept in touch with had just thought her choice of profession was odd and that she should have chosen something else. She disagreed. She didn’t want to work at the ministry.
And apparently the last place Sophie wanted to work at this point in her life was just where Simon worked. She could almost giggle at the funny coincidence but kept it to herself. She didn’t want to potentially offend him.

"So why law enforcement? Why not quidditch? I seem to remember that you were pretty apt at quidditch when we were in school." Sophie asked curiously as she took another coffee sip.

SPOILER!!: Emily and Cynthia

Her years of service and unparalleled work ethic had paid off in the end -- even if she missed being an active Auror.

....

........

"I'm new," she explained, though they could maybe tell, "and so far it's hectic. How are your departments dealing with...you know...the problem." She jerked her head toward the regular entrances to the Ministry.
Cynthia was surprised at her own new nature. She guessed it was out of curiosity. The witch really wanted to know more about the blocked-Ministry situation.

Skewed? That was an interesting word. Mariel sometimes wondered how her own approach to life was viewed by others as she tended to look at things in her own analytical way. Skewed could be appropriate in some eyes. Distractedly picking at the last of her tuna croissant, Mariel thought over Emily's words regarding her own promotion a year or so ago. She knew she must have had a difficult time stepping into the void Ferguson had left and try to clean up the mess he had bequeathed on her while establishing her authority with the employees of her department. Mariel did not envy her there. "I can imagine," she said before popping the last bit of croissant into her mouth then washing it down with a sip of her latte. "That position seemed destined to be polarizing especially given the circumstances before you stepped up. I do have to say you manage to display grace under fire," she added with a smile. No matter what her opinion had been about the department and its capabilities, she did have to admit that Emily had done a rather good job of stepping into a leadership role and reigning them all in together. And Mariel herself wondered how well she would have been able to handle such public scrutiny had it been her, not that she would have been cut out for that type of job. It wasn't flattery, she knew how strong of a person it would have to take. And she truly hoped the department was now on the upswing.

The 28 year old did wonder about her fellow Head's opinions on changing relationships once one was a supervisor instead of just coworker. She had been having something of an issue there since she had been with her own department for four years now and maybe this was something of a change for some of her now employees, not that Mariel exactly had issue with commanding authority, but it was more of an issue of friendship and how that might change. Perhaps Emily didn't have that issue in her own department though and Mariel was reluctant to expand much more on the subject now that they had company at their table.

Green eyes shifted towards the newcomer as she spoke up and Mariel took a long sip of her latte as she mulled over her words. She was new.. to the Ministry or the area in general? The brunette was unsure, still a bit off-put by the woman's intrusion, though she supposed she could attribute that to.. a desire to make acquaintances within a new community? Still, there were more conventional ways of going about that. But she'd give her the benefit of the doubt for now and play nice.

Her eyes casually followed the direction of where Cynthia had jerked her head before settling on the woman again. "Hectic is a word for it," she started, somewhat amused. "Certainly isn't ideal," she continued, choosing her words carefully. "But we're managing. An airplane hangar probably would not be my first choice, but it suits our needs.. for now." She had to internally chuckle at the idea of actually being in charge of airplanes had she worked there as a muggle. Just.. no. "You're not enjoying your arrangement?" she asked, tilting her head curiously towards her. She said IMC, right? She had spoken to Gidyun about his department. Didn't seem nearly as bad minus the muggles sticking their noses in their business.

Simon had caught the waitress and managed to get himself his own drink without causing commotion. A slight but almost natural pause in the conversation between the two former classmates as the young man awaited a reaction from Sophie. And when it came he almost laughed, catching himself in time given he had just taken a sip from his hot tea. That was an accident just barely avoided and he was glad of that and keeping himself from a scalding burn.

"You actually wouldn't be the first one to ask that of me." It might have been Jacob, the Ravenclaw captain who had been majorly surprised by his choice or could even have been from someone earlier than that. "But to be honest I've always wanted to be an auror." Okay so he was gonna use it since she used quidditch and no one seemed the wiser. "And it seemed a better use of my academic and physical skills then just playing professionally."

Nibbling at a scone and drinking some coffee as the waitress served Simon his drink of choice gave place for a natural pause in the conversation between them. They were sitting in a heavily frequented muggle cafe after all so it was best Sophie concluded to not talk about ‘wizard’ stuff in front of the waitress. It would be embarrassing to have to send a patronus for an obliviator to erase the poor waitress memory.

"Oh, really? Who asked first? Someone I know?" Sophie queried curiously. Drinking some more coffee as Simon revealed that his dream had always been to become an auror not to play quidditch professionally. "I suppose we both chose wisely then given our academic and physical skills. So do you like your job? Is it how you imagined it to be?" Sophie was actually genuinely interested because her parents never spoke of their jobs in law enforcement much if any.

Grace under fire...

That was one way of looking at it. Emily could see how it seemed that way, so she couldn't argue against it, but it wasn't something she would openly want or need to acknowledge. She just did what she did best, she got on with things. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Indulging in a bit more cinnamon scroll - pausing between small bites to suck the sugar off her fingers, Emily nod her head. Yeah. Grace, under fire, all that jazz.
"When it's called for, we do what's necessary to progress." Unless your fight or flight reflex was broken and you were the type to opt to flee, then no, hardly progressive. But those were minor details and completely irrelevant to her.

In the silence that followed, Emily contentedly finished off her scroll, washing it down with a bit more latte before engaging with her company again. Solitude was still her preference, even if people were somewhat more tolerable. Mariel of course, was different to people in general. School, Quidditch and now work was seeing to that. No complaints here but...

This newbie still had her attention. It was a little uncouth of her to simply make herself welcome at their table. Emily herself had at least had the decency to ask if the seat was available. Not simply helping herself to it like this one had.

Being new, was hardly an excuse for her behaviour... but it was done now, so she would live.

Mariel seemed more the conversationalist in the group, and Emily was more than happy to let them do the talking while she sat and watched and perhaps pretended for a moment that she was sociable. Sitting with people counted, right? Maybe. It was only after a short moment that she figured she could make an effort.
"We're dealing..." was her contribution. Not seeing any need to elaborate on the fact, or discuss locations, nope. No need for details. But indeeedddd, how were IMC holding up? Emily leaned forward in her seat, a hand cradling what was left of her latte.

"Oh, well it seems better than yours. Nice offices, but it's a bit risky, what with having to share them with muggles." Cynthia couldn't believe the other places the Ministry had set up. A haunted asylum? No, thank you! She supposed she was lucky. "We've had a few, ah, close calls." Muggles tended to wander where magic could be uncovered. They were bound to notice something fishy.

Cynthia now thought maybe she wasn't welcome, especially to Emily, yet her curiosity still urged her on. She began, "Oh, that's good." The other witch didn't seem to provide much, so why should she? "So are we, as far as I can tell. We're working hard, but getting anywhere? Not quite yet..."

She chomped on her tuna sandwich with determination. Surely she could get something out of these women. Mariel seemed the more likely choice. They were both Heads, so they would know things Cynthia wouldn't.

This little café was totally a cute joint for a cup of joe. Tori moved her sunglasses to the top of her head and marched right in. She snagged a table firstly, since one was just opening up, and couldn't help but notice who all elllllse was in the bakery.

Mm, maybe she'd better keep these shades on for now. She tipped them back down to her nose and got out her little notebook, ready and waiting for her coworker to show. It was notes-comparison timeeee!

Jorge had made his way over to the muggle part of London, not that he wasn't use to it. His flat wasn't to far from here. Taking his time he looked around half wondering where the hanger was located, maybe he'd swing by there and surprise a certain department head once he was done meeting Tori for lunch. He was wondering what his coworker might have up her sleeve. He usually always worked more alone in his stories, but he was coming to find that she had his knack of being in the right places.

So when he made his way into the cafe the first thing the man did was pull his hat down a bit, usually he'd take it off, but he had caught a glimpse of Simon with some girl not Angelina which to him meant that maybe some MLE things would come around during their lunch. This was a good idea. Without paying much attention to anyone else in the cafe he spotted who he was looking for and walked over to her grinning.

"Tori" he greeted with a nod as he sat down. "I think you pick a perfect place to have lunch." Oh yes with Simon here he might be able to find out a few things. Maybe some MLE news as well as what was he doing with another woman when it was clear New Years Eve he had eyes for Jorge's cute little friend.

But onto their news and lunch and such. "I got a coffee, I didn't know what you wanted." She pushed him her notebook as she said that so that he could see what was written on it. He kept grinning at her. There was no denying her rather excited expression. "Oh I'm starting to find out. I've been noticing your pretty good at finding the hit places. I think I underestimated you." Her fashion articles were just one side of his coworker it seemed. She certainly had a more cutting edge side and he could appreciate that. Though he had noticed other things about her too, who wouldn't. Heh..

"Coffee and a sandwich would be perfect really." He glanced down not expecting what he read on the paper. Department Heads, MLE.. His first thought went to Simon, but Simon wasn't the department head. Was Emily there. His grin grew. Oh she would love to see him now wouldn't she. His eyes lifted and he glanced around. His eyes meeting exactly who he was hoping to see, Emily. Yes this was a perfect place to look around. Though he wasn't sure who the brunette was that had her back to him. The more he glanced the more the outfit, the hair, that hair all became very familiar.

He came on a lunch to snoop around and found his girlfriend. Well this was awkward.

Grabbing the quill he scribbled and passed it back:

Warren broke the lockout story, but I'm always wanting in on things going on at the ministry. Simon would be a good one to keep watch on, Emily definitely, but the brunette with the MLE department head is off limits. Anything can be workable we just have to get more information.

work on this together?

He passed the notes back as he smiled his charming smile. "It's a special occasion one pastry isn't going to hurt. My treat." It was the least he could do for picking so a great place. "So this ageing tip?" He wasn't afraid to speak out about that. The rumors and the talking was all over, so it wasn't odd for them to be talking about it as well.

Aha, so he admitted it! All these men, always underestimating the likes of her. Tori flipped a bit of her ginger hair to one side and leaned in toward Jorge. "What can I say..... I'm misleading on purpose." She was a snake in the grass, hiding in plain sight... well, not exactly hiding. She was a princess and a fashionista. And smart. So. Hiding her brains was all she did.

Enough about her. Would he treat her to a pastry? Because she would eat it if he bought it, hehe. "I'll take one, in that case," she replied as he wrote in the notebook. Ooh. Hmm. She wrote back with a little soft humming to herself and casually passed it back.

Quote:

Why is she off limits? Simon's the blonde MLEr, yeah? Who's that with him? And who is the random with Emily and your brunette?

Yes, his brunette. That's how she was going to refer to the woman because until he explained why she was off limits, she was just going to make assumptions. And Tori was good at assumptions.

Oh, the ageing tip. She leaned in again, even if she was following Jorge's lead in talking about this story in public. "Right, well I was at Hogsmeade a few weeks ago, and I overheard these two geezers yapping in the pub. Funny thing is, at first glance I thought they were the same age. But on second glance... one was definitely wrinkled and in a wheelchair, and the other had blonde hair, smooth skin, and good health." She took a breath and a sip of coffee. "SO, I sort of listened in on their convo, and I THINK the younger one is actually a professor at the school! So he's like, aging BACKWARDS while everyone else is aging FORWARDS!"

Could they have another time thief on their hands?!

He chuckled at her, this one was worth keeping a friendship with. "It's a very interesting way to go about things, but I like it." He wouldn't deny an excellent thing when he saw it. She could flirt her way into any situation he assumed and who couldn't admire that. It was his game he had played for years. It was almost as if he was looking at himself, but a chick. She had the looks to pull it off too. He would certainly give her that as well.

His brown eyes glanced back towards Simon wondering who the woman was. What was he doing. It could be an innocent coworker lunch break, or was it more? There seemed to be something big between Angelina and him at that ball for the way he stormed out, but maybe Jorge misjudged, but who was he kidding that rarely happened. Eyes focusing on Emily and Mariel he got a little lost in his thoughts, but came back as Tori spoke.

Pastry? Yes that would probably be a good idea. "Sure thing" He turned to order a coffee for himself and a sandwich, plus two pastries for them. Automatically he thought about ordering something to have sent over to Mariel and Emily, but he was conflicted. It was a no win situation for him at the moment. He had to think what was best with Mariel and keeping a low profile from her so Emily wouldn't flip was probably the best, so he didn't order for them, just him and Tori.

Turning back to Tori he looked down at the paper. Sighing a bit he tried to figure out the best way to put it. A smile crossed him at your brunette. She was his brunette. He wrote as he talked:

Quote:

Yes Simon is the blond. He's MLE. I thought he was dating a friend of mine, but now I'm not so sure. I have no clue who is with him. Her name is Mariel Morgan. She's the new sports and games department head and she is very off limits, because she's my girlfriend.
There was that clear enough for her. The rest of the Ministry they could have a field day. Bring down and point fingers at whatever they wanted, but he wished to leave Sports and Games alone, unless something huge that was out of his control happened.

After sliding the notes back her way he leaned back sipping his coffee. "Younger while the students are getting older." His brain was working quickly and he leaned closer to Tori without even thinking. " I wrote the article for the De Talone Case. This sounds way to close. Though those kids were some what frozen in time. Do you think the professor has something to do with it?" He liked pointing fingers so why not start pointing. He had his sights set on that feisty headmistress he kept hearing about, but if Tori had another angle he was sure to listen.

"Do you have his name?" He needed names.

Newbies...

Finished with her tuna croissant, Mariel allowed her eyes to rest for a moment on Emily's cinnamon scroll as she picked it apart before glancing up at her again with a light smile. "Are the pastries good here? Was thinking about picking some up to take home.." And as it was her first time here, she could use a recommendation. Not that she knew if Emily had been here before or not, but at least she could tell her if those cinnamon things were any good.

Do what's necessary. Yes, Mariel thought that would be an accurate view on leadership, especially in their current state, she thought as she took another long, contemplative sip of her latte. "Certainly.." she said, slowly nodding, her thoughts drifting a bit. "Don't be so modest though, it takes a certain type of person to step into that role," she added with a small smile, allowing her green eyes to drift back to the woman sitting across from her. Give credit where it's due, and take it also. And though she would have loved to indulge her fellow Department Head in more conversation of the sort, she was reluctant to expand much more on the topic, not knowing their present company at all.

Look at what she was reduced to. Small talk and cautious conversation. It was hard not to feel a twinge of resentment for the awkwardness that was now present, though she supposed that she could just get up and leave if she wanted to. But it was her lunch break after all and she wasn't exactly ready to head back. Shame really, because she enjoyed Emily's company and actually wanted to bend her ear a bit about Department Head things, finding it lucky they had bumped into each other today. Another time though. Besides.. Mariel had manners.. she would use them unless pushed too far. She wasn't willing to just be rude to anyone new, trying to find a way to fit in.

Though the more this Cynthia talked, Mariel couldn't help but to feel a nagging thought at the back of her head. Could be just normal small talk, trying to be friendly and meet some people in the community though the brunette had found it odd that she had zeroed in on them both. She felt she had covered all she was willing with the current state of the Ministry. It was interesting to know what others thought of their own locations though, not that their challenges seemed to be all that different than her own in one way or another.

Mariel nodded lightly as the IMC woman spoke, though her green eyes soon snapped to her face as she gave her a warning look. Did she just use the word muggle.. in a muggle establishment? "I'd watch my wording if I were you," she said keeping her tone low and level. No, she wasn't one of hers, though she might consider herself lucky not to be. It really would not do any of them well to draw unwanted attention. She finished the last of her latte. Did she want another was the question, though she glanced at Cynthia again. Disgruntled by her situation? She couldn't quite tell, though it was something for everyone to manage, wasn't it? "Close calls..?" she started lightly, quite curious on that point though.

Disgruntled by her situation? She couldn't quite tell, though it was something for everyone to manage, wasn't it? "Close calls..?" she started lightly, quite curious on that point though.

Now that she was sitting, and she was engaged in conversation, Emily wasn't in as great a hurry to rush back to her hole in the ground - and that left her considering another snack before returning. Networking is what she was doing at the minute... with Mariel at least, the other woman was an unknown entity at this stage, but perhaps she could prove to be of some use - maybe. Mariel was at least as tolerable as she remembered, and more to the point, perhaps even welcome company. Either way, there would be times where they'd need to work closely on matters of security, so developing this relationship was in their best interest. Emily nod her head, a satisfied smile on her lips, "It's hard to go wrong where sugar's involved..." not to mention all the butter and cinnamon and vanilla that was involved. "But I have a rather active sweet tooth, so consider me biased." Food was food to her, once it went in, it all ended up in the same place regardless.

Her smile didn't falter at Mariel's continued flattery, but she was squirming on the inside. Compliments were rarely well received, she simply didn't know what to do with them, or how to respond. Busying herself with a sip of her latte, Emily hid a smirk. Modesty was something she had in abundance, it wasn't the first time it had come up in conversation. "Thanks," she started awkwardly, wanting to elaborate on the point but eventually she opted not to. Oddly enough, the thought of insisting she was too modest, didn't sound modest at all and this was something she wasn't comfortable with. "Anyone can step into the role, it's what they do with it that matters," she pointed out, refusing to accept that stepping into a position even under poor circumstances was worth a pat on the back. It wasn't, not in her book.

It was a strange day, she was only just deciding that. Randomly catching up with Mariel was one thing, the random that joined them was another entirely... but she couldn't shake the feeling she was being watched, that they were being watched. It wasn't something she was concerned about. Emily wasn't in the habit of stating things out loud in public that she wouldn't feel comfortable announcing to the media. And on that note... the media. She didn't have to turn in her seat, or glance around as if scoping out the place, no, she could be subtle - and in that, it was difficult to miss the egotistical journalist, Jorge. Wonderful.

Her attention was still focused on her present company, and she couldn't help but arch a brow at the mention of muggles. The term itself wouldn't raise much of any suspicion with the muggles themselves, but Mariel wasn't wrong to warn the woman off it. The close calls part though... Merlin. This is why they all needed muggle evasion training. Those just-in-case moments.

As for the working hard and getting nowhere part... well that was full of promise. "Should start picking up momentum sooner or later," she mused, her attempt at sounding conversational, even if she didn't have anything to add to the topic of conversation. Especially not with a journalist listening in.

Yes the waitress was gone so they had a tad more freedom in their speech. His attention back to Sophie, Simon bit the inside of his cheek as he tried to remember the correct answer to her question. A guess was better then simply shrugging and say he didn't know when it wasn't the whole truth. "Jacob, the Ravenclaw captain, whom I'm not sure you knew. Or possible Legend." The former she certainly knew since they had all been in the same house, same age and worked as student leaders together, at least once Patroculus had had to leave school.

"For the most part," he said taking a sip from his drink. "Thought it has had its surprises. How about you?" he asked, turning the tables as he lowered his mug back down to the table top. It was then he noticed the reflection of movement off to one side. Two persons...and Simon couldn't help the nagging feeling of awareness. The one he had nearly dropped since he was off-duty and trying to relax somewhat. But at the moment he couldn't see clearly lest he make himself obvious, his seat not the best in the corner booth.

Relax...he silently berated himself. He was out catching up with an old friend. Could be nothing but MLE paranoia.

"Do you have his name?" He needed names.

"Well thank you," Tori giggled a little. She liked Jorge too, thought she could learn a lot from him, and NOT just how to flirt information out of folks. He was one smooth operator though. Just look at the way his sneaky reporter eyes were darting around the café, even now! She mimicked his sneaky eyeing of people but was pretty sure as soon as she turned away, they were all eyeing her back.

Hmmph. So she stole another peek at their written conversation while he ordered.

Quote:

So it looks like we could have a gossip article (even if it's not for the DP, if you catch my drift) AND a daily news piece. Interesting. Nice catch you got there.
His little girlfriend. She smirked, but didn't comment on it. The Hogwarts story was much more interesting. "The old one was named....Shir....S...hold on, I wrote it down." Tori flipped back a few pages in her notebook. "Sherman! And the young one, the one I think was a professor, was Abraham." She nodded. Yes, she was sure that was their names.

"But listen, Jorge, you're not going to make my cousin out to be the bad guy in all this, right? I can understand interviewing her and whatever.... but if my family were to find out I contributed to this article in any way..." They'd think of her as more of a black sheep than they already did.

HogwartsStudent11 03-05-2014 01:22 AM

Quoting Mariel and Emily...

"Oh!" Cynthia gasped. How could she be so stupid? "Right..." That was the disadvantage, she tended to believe, to being pureblood. You never quite got used to being around muggles.

"Yeah, close calls," she began again, eager to move on to another topic. "Well, they just go about their business, but every once in a while, they'll bump into us and you know... They're mostly just confused by us and our vocabulary, and I hope it stays at that level. The receptionist especially puts us at this risk."

She too eyed Emily's cinnamon roll. Sugar was not for her as much as coffee, but it looked delicious. This café had very excellent reviews, and she'd chosen it over the other restaurant on the street. But she was only there for a light lunch, nothing else. She finished off the first half of her sandwich with satisfaction.

He looked up from his sandwich with the giggle and couldn't help but laugh. Tori was different than the usual coworkers he had. They either kept to themselves, were different, or just if a chick on the only deals with fashion and gossip, but she really seemed to know her stuff and he liked that. "So how long have you been at the Prophet again?" She had been there before he had started or well he thought at least. Taking another bite he figured getting to know her better would be a good idea.

Sipping at his coffee he glanced at the notebook. The words made him scowl a bit. He liked to have information such as Simon and Angelina, but a gossip column he really wasn't impressed with. He liked to use that type of info to get to people or to have leverage to get what he wanted. His eyes watching Simon for a few moments. If he was dating Angelina Jorge could use this a leverage so his friend wouldn't find out her boyfriend was getting cozy with someone else. He really wanted to find out who this woman was and what if anything was going on.

Quote:

You can do what you want with it, but gossip really isn't my thing. I like this information for leverage, get what I need using it.

I'm more interested if with all these random buildings is security even up to par and how's the ministers 'office' compared to the rest of the dumps.

I'm not using her for my own benefit if that's what you're getting at. We've been on and off since before she was department head.
.

He glanced over at Emily and Mariel with a smile across his face. She was a great catch. He wanted to go over to her, but staying where he was was more important for both of them at the moment. He did wonder who the other one was though. His thought interrupted as he heard Tori again. "Sherman and Abraham got it. I'm going to head to a match this weekend to have a look around." He wanted to see first hand talk to some of the students even.

His eyes met her and shock went over him, "Wait? Your cousin is hat headmistress? The one that keeps letting all those things happen at that school." Where was all his notes, maybe he could get some info from Tori about some of this stuff. "You know I'm working on another piece about the odd things that happen there an now one being held accountable, maybe you can find some inside information for me." You know he won't make the headmistress look that bad if she could help. "Don't worry they won't find out you helped me unless you want them too." He'd give her credit if she helped, but only if she wanted it.

Jacob, Ravenclaw Captain?

The name didn't ring a bell or make a face pop out her. Legend however was more familiar. Nodding she smiled. "You're right. I didn’t know Jacob very well but definitely Legend. We had many prefect patrols of the halls and corridors together." After Patroclus sadly, had had to leave Hogwarts. Sophie wondered what had happened to her ex-fellow prefect after he had left school. She knew he hadn’t come back to Hogwarts to finish his last two years of school at least. "Did you keep in touch with Patroclus after he left school?"

Taking another sip of her coffee Sophie gestured to the scone tray. "Feel free to take a scone if you're hungry. I can't eat all of them, anyway." It would be a shame if they went to waste since the scones were quite yummy. "It's has its up and downs definitely. What I like though is that every new patient I see has a different reason for seeking healer assistance. That makes it interesting and exciting." Hopefully that didn’t make her crazy in Simon eyes?

A feeling had come over her while she talked to Simon. Sophie was probably imagining it. Most people didn’t pay much attention to other people when they were out in a public so why did she have the instinct feeling of being watched? Had the coffee gone to her head?

They're mostly just confused by us and our vocabulary, and I hope it stays at that level. The receptionist especially puts us at this risk."

She too eyed Emily's cinnamon roll. Sugar was not for her as much as coffee, but it looked delicious. This café had very excellent reviews, and she'd chosen it over the other restaurant on the street. But she was only there for a light lunch, nothing else. She finished off the first half of her sandwich with satisfaction.

Mariel wasn't so sure she could say the same about herself when it came to having a sweet tooth. Certainly she did like to indulge in something decadent once in a while, though she felt that she had grown out of the sweet phase just a bit. Even if it felt like a lifetime ago, she could vaguely remember the trunk full of chocolate frogs she would stock up on, but she honestly couldn't think of the last time she had one of those, though she still loved her lemondrops. The brunette enjoyed her savory as much as the sweet, often with each other to balance them out. But pastries were somehow the exception and she was even more resolved to take some home with her as fresh baked was always the best. "Biased or not, you seemed to like it and I'll take that as a recommendation," she said with a hint of a grin. "Besides, it smelled delicious." Though really it was a bakery, the entire building was filled with delicious aroma. "It'll work for a quick breakfast tomorrow too." She never seemed to have much time in the morning, having to leave such an allowance to take that dreadful bus into work. Something to take with her would do well.

Green eyes watched Emily carefully as she sipped her latte. She hadn't intended to bring about any further awkwardness, though she had gotten the feeling that the other woman was growing uncomfortable with her comments regarding her position. Flattery really wasn't what she was aiming for. It wasn't easy having to clean up someone else's mess and assuming responsibility and, even if past performances from the MLE had Mariel, and likely much of the public, reluctant to see them as reputable as they could be, it seemed the current Head was making strides in correcting that. Mariel certainly had no trouble taking credit when she felt it was deserved but she also knew not everyone felt that way. "That is a very good point," she nodded a bit, looking down at her empty cup. She decided that she would have that second latte now. "It is often a true test of character." She would have to admit she knew plenty who tried to step up to lead that ended in disaster though the brunette was hesitant to expand on that thought. Fair enough, she could veer from that line of discussion.

Mariel glanced up to see the woman across from her focusing on some point past her. It did pique her curiosity if only for a moment, but Mariel was not uncouth enough to turn in her seat and follow Emily's line of vision. Since it had remained unspoken, she wasn't sure it was of any importance and instead turned her eyes to Cynthia. She offered the woman a light smile as she realized her mistake, figuring the woman would be more aware now that her words had been caught. No harm, no foul, really, as it drew no attention, but a bit of prudence never hurt, though Mariel felt no need to say anymore about it.

She turned a little more towards Cynthia as she spoke of her close call experiences. Sounded like they could use their own Obliviator on loan.. were the muggles there really that nosy to not keep to their own business? Though perhaps it was to be expected when new people moved into an already inhabited building.. "I suppose curiosity is an innate human trait," she mused aloud. "Regardless of who it is.." Mariel considered Cynthia's next words. "The receptionist? She's not employed by IMC?" Was she a muggle? That would pose some challenges, though perhaps it was a situation that could not be helped. Unless Cynthia had meant that the receptionist didn't have much sense when it meant dealing with muggles. Then that would be another challenge in itself.

The 28 year old glanced down at her empty cup again. She still had time and wasn't exactly eager to return to her drafty hanger, so a little more sustenance wouldn't be unwelcome. "I'm going for another latte.. anyone else need something?" That, plus her pastries to take with her when it was time to head back. And she thought it nice to offer.

Simon could almost visible see the recollection of the people he had mentioned, nodding at her comment about the past and the possibilities of Jacob. He had had his own share of duties to go along with prefect patrols when they pulled in the captains for assistance. And he doubted the guy would get along very much with anyone outside his own house, not even his fellow student leaders. It wasn't like he had the best personality, only suited for pirate ships and beating bludgers, and what they hit, to a pulp.

"Nah...I can't say I did. Nor saw his brother again either," he answered to the negative. It actually might have been fun to work with the guy he had only really met in passing at Borr's party. "He...Prometheus that is...worked in MLE before then," he added in case Sophie wondered where he had met the older man or why he would have thought to see him again.

He was about to turn down the offer of a scone when she seemed to persist that he have one. "Well I guess I can..." Simon mused as he gave in, taking one and breaking off a piece to eat as he listened to Sophie speak on her own work. "I can see that being a plus," he mused after she was done and he had swallowed after a sip to wash the bite down. "I mean who would want to do something where it was the same day in and day out. Could easily get boring. " Like a week of being stuck in the office doing paperwork.

Or worse.

More movement and at first Simon had felt it was simply customers moving about. But the woman seemed familiar and so he turned his head a little. Was that Mariel?

Brother?

Patroclus had a brother?

Sophie was about to ask how Simon knew Patroclus had a brother when he provided her with an explanation. Apparently Patroclus’s brother had worked for MLE when Simon had started there after graduating from Hogwarts. "I haven’t run into Patroclus either." Sophie wondered if she’d even recognize him if she saw him again.

Taking another coffee sip she picked up and nibbled on her scone again as Simon succumbed and did the same even if he seemed reluctant, causing her to ask. "Don't you like scones?" Or was there something else behind the reluctance? Sophie had some ideas spurred by her healer instincts but she kept them to herself. Nodding she responded. "Definitely, I can't see myself doing something where nothing unexpected ever happened. I need change. It's the same for you right? I bet your job isn't the same day in and day out?" It seemed unlikely since criminals always came up with new enterprising ways to cause trouble.

Seeing Simon look over at another of the cafe's customers she asked with a small hand gesture towards Mariel. "Do you know that woman?"

At least the creepy feeling of being watched was gone.

"I'm going for another latte.. anyone else need something?" That, plus her pastries to take with her when it was time to head back. And she thought it nice to offer.

The fact that the two women had eyed her choice of pastry didn't go unnoticed. Nope. And considering they had both gone with the more filling options on the cafe menu, she felt as though the roles perhaps ought to have been reversed. Perhaps. "Cinnamon scrolls are my favoruites ... anything with cinnamon is, really," and look at that, she was exposing her weakness to a stranger and Mariel who she didn't know all too well -- all things considered. She shrugged, the recommendation was the least of her worries for the day.

Emily listened as Cynthia spoke of IMC's muggle woes, and agreed with Mariel's response. It was an innate thing. People.. were people... and they tended to get in the way of things, inserting their presence where it wasn't welcome. Was it any wonder she didn't do the whole social thing very well? Nevertheless, she was managing this lunch meeting thing that had happened to her. "Suppose it could be worse," she noted. For the most part terminology could be shrugged off, so long as the offending witch or wizard wasn't stupid enough to let something obvious slip... but who knew. And ew, muggle receptionist? No thanks, it was a good thing she still had Muriel, the woman was easy to please and downright fierce in her own way. "I take it you're not expecting any visiting delegates any time soon?" she asked, curious. From security's perspective she's not heard of anything, then again she was no longer heading the division, she was free to focus on her other duties now.

Inspecting her watch, Emily figured it was about time to head back, she could only afford a few more minutes before she started feeling lazy -- something she couldn't tolerate unless it was a weekend with little work to actually plough through. "I could do with another too, to go," she mused, fishing out a muggle bill from her pocket. "Would you mind?" ... because she'd taken her question as a legitimate offer, thus saving her from leaving her own seat for the time being.

"Oh about a year," Tori waved her hand like it wasn't important. Which, it wasn't, really. Sure it was a job and a cool status symbol and all that, but it wasn't like she HAD to work to live comfortably. "I was part-time at first," Tori added, by way of explanation. "You?"

She lightly flipped a page in the notebook to write back.

Quote:

Forget I said anything. ;]

You should go snooping around them! If you can get in, then obviously some kind of terrorist or security threat can get in.

Not getting at anything! She's pretty though. Go you.

See, just being friendly. Tori continued sipping casually at her drink too. Geez, Jorge was a suspicious one, wasn't he? He must have had bad luck in his past relationships... or no luck at all, to be so sensitive about it. "Let me know how it goes." Hopefully her tip would be of some use.

Tori couldn't help the second small laugh that escaped from her strawberry lips. "Yes, Annie is THAT Headmistress. Her maiden name is Bunbury, after all. There's only so many of us." The ones that were out there, with the exception of her father, were awesome though. She twirled a lock of hair around her finger and looked around the room, as though seeking a distraction. "The offer to help you is tempting, but... I think I'd have to get something out of it. Something other than credit." She was a Slytherin, after all. She couldn't just help him for no reason.

A year, Jorge thought about this. That would have been after he had started. Did he not realize this or had it just seemed she had been there. "I'm really surprised our paths haven't crossed more really." She was hot, young, but hot so how hadn't he noticed her. She had to be hiding or so into her fashion articles she wasn't around the office much, but her second statement gave him another reason. Part time so she might not have been in when he was. That seemed more reasonable. "Oh I've been there about a year and a half. Moved here from Spain once I had the position."

As he spoke he had read what she wrote and forgetting about a gossip column was a sure thing. Maybe he could teach her how to use information like cheating boyfriends to her benefit. There could be a good story that comes out of it really. MLE employee more worried about his next girlfriend than worrying about the ministry being safe or even finding criminals still on the loose. Wasn't he on that Talone case? Hmm Jorge's mind started questioning somethings as he glanced over to the two. Sipping on his coffee he wrote a little in the notebook.

Quote:

Snooping sounds like a great idea actually. I think I might try to start with a random department. Mysterious or Creature? Maybe we both should try different places. See if some are better than others. See which places the ministry finds more important.

She's a lot more than just her looks believe me she can keep you on your toes.
He grinned writing the last part. He knew Mariel could hold her own pretty well and even if Tori didn't listen and went snooping for something in Mariel's department it wouldn't be just him at her. He had already put the department head through a lot with the Maria stuff and the curses against him, he didn't want to be the reason she had issues as a brand new department head even with his feelings towards all ministry's.

"Sure I will, but I might be coming to you for more info since you have some sources being not from the area I'm still trying to build some acquaintances in all areas." That was coming a little slower than he would like, but he'd continue to work on the needed 'friends'. "Well I didn't know her maiden name not living around here before." He had to eye her and one of his signature smirks leaning closer. "and what would that be? What does Tori want?" This was interesting to him. He always liked these type of things though his reasoning behind them had changed a bit, his eyes shifted towards his girlfriend who seemed to still not know he was there. It really as for the best that she didn't. Brown eyes back to Tori he waited for the answer.

"Oh we've crisscrossed here and there." Tori munched through a piece of pastry nonchalantly. "But I don't hang around the offices much. They're so boooooooooooring." But he'd only been there a little longer than her, so. "Guess we'll have to hang out more," she sorta grinned at him. Spain ooh la la. Spicy. Jorge was SPICY. Hehe.

Tori had noticed him glancing at the blonde guy more than one time but wasn't really interested in him. Her eyes were on the girls' table. Why? Because they didn't exactly look like friends, but they were all sitting together and chit-chatting together. Why? Her eyes drifted back to their little notebook.

Good luck with the Department of Mysteries. They don't call them Mysteries for nothing! I might try the Minister's Office, since that one is pretty important? If you want me to help, that is.

Haha I'll leave that to you. Not interested, trust me.

Tori's eyes were mostly on the back of the MLE woman's head anyway. MLE people were so interseting, right? Like Aspen? Were they all as weird as Aspen though? She was curious enough to find out.

"Ugh yeah all right," Tori agreed, cupping her hands around her coffee for one last sip. Yeah yeah, Bunbury wasn't a Spanish name. How much longer was he going to play that 'not from around here' card? She smirked as he leaned in. "Well it starts with a g and ends with alleon and can be used to buy Princess Tori many a shiny thing." And she liked shiny things. She liked them A LOT.

But, if he wasn't keen on paying her... "I also accept favors." Tori winked her long lashes at him. And she had a great favor in mind....

Crisscrossed? Well that got a laugh, "If we had crisscrossed any paths I think I would know. I don't forget pretty faces." That was an honest answer. Jorge neither missed them nor forgot them. He liked to know where they were and how easy they were to work with. The ladies always seemed to give him what he wanted and were the best for sources, so if they would have crossed he would have remembered. Unless it was just at a staff meeting or something. Then yes he might not have even been looking up all that much. "Well our paths have met now that's all that counts."

He was really beginning to think this was a good idea. Coming here and not just for the people around, but to get to know this coworker. She was interesting and he felt he had found someone maybe as equal to him when it came to the ways he liked to do his job. "The office does what it needs to do, but I agree this is a little more interesting." He nodded in agreement "Yes we will have to hangout more." Hangout, was that the word. He thought for a moment before pushing it off.

He kept noticing her glances towards the women and tried to read her. He was really good at reading people, but Tori he wasn't so sure just yet. Which woman was she glancing at and what did she know that kept her there. He glanced at the notebook and thought a moment.

Quote:

I've had way worse than anything mysterious could dish out. Plus they aren't at the ministry they are in muggle buildings. Can't be all that bad.

I have a connection at the ministry office, so owl if you do end up there and get into any trouble. I can be of help using him.
He did want to trust her, but trust wasn't something he handed out, so for now he'd take her word, but would see about the trust. He glanced seeing Mariel get up. Was she leaving? He than realized who Tori was really focusing on and reached for the notebook again.

Quote:

Don't stare at Emily too much. She probably will know. She can be rather feisty and is one of the only women I've come across that doesn't take to me.
He chuckled as he wrote the last part browns eyes looking back to Tori, "Usually one of my stronger areas." finishing his paper thoughts with words so it wasn't to much of an awkward silence between them. [b] "It usually works nicely with the job, but I assume you know this." She was pretty and seemed to be so much like him. She had to bat her eye lashes to get what she wanted here and there. Hell she seemed to be doing it to him right now.

She wanted money, well if she wanted it she'd really have to give him some good leads and information. He wasn't going to just hand money over, but that didn't concern him at all. Money really wasn't something he worried about, though he should try to keep better track at times.

His grin grew even bigger when she said about a favor. His eyes locked on her forgetting about the others for a moment. He was interested. Not in her per say in that way, but interested in what the offer might be. "A favor? Well what kind of favor. Maybe we can work something out." He was always up for a you scratch my back I'll scratch yours type of thing.

Mention of Mariel too :P

SPOILER!!: Sophie

So that was a no-go for seeing their former classmate from either of them. Patroclus seemed to have vanished, at least from the British Isles where their circles ran. But then seeing as he wasn't a native of the area, it was likely that both siblings were staying around their native lands or somewhere else entirely.

Huh...he didn't like scones? "No...I do. Its not that. I'm just trying not to overstay my break." He glanced briefly at his watch to check the time, looking relieved not too much time had elapsed since he had entered the cafe. "Still have some work to handle today, but I'm good for now." The bakery and cafe wasn't that far from both the Underground and his designated area, the ship. And it certainly gave him a better feeling then the ship which Simon still had some issue with. Bloody pirates. "Right," he said in agreement towards non-boring and simplistic jobs as he took another sip. "It certainly has a way of surprising you."

He paused in taking another bite from the scone he had already broken off when Sophie questioned him. The auror hadn't meant to have his look to the familiar woman to be obvious, but the angle had been tight. "We've met at functions a few times. She works at the ministry." But the question was...was Mariel the reason he felt like he was being watched?

Nope there was something else. He just needed to work out finding out without being too open and not making Sophie uncomfortable. Simon had joined her, interrupting her alone time.

emjay 03-14-2014 02:41 AM

mhm, we see you, little spies

It was settled then. Mariel was sold on the cinnamon scrolls to take with her, certainly she had had enough to fill her for now, but the idea of a quick pastry breakfast was somehow appealing in addition to a sweet snack after work. And though she was sure it hadn't been Emily's intention, the woman's vague zeal for the treats nudged her in that direction. The latte was another story.. she hadn't quite had her fill of the sweetened caffeine, though as she caught Emily's glance to her own watch, the brunette realized that time was growing short. Might as well get her own to go too.

She turned in her seat, facing outwards to get up, glancing back at Emily as she pulled out some muggle money. "Oh.. no," she started, waving a dismissive hand. "I got it this time.." It wasn't a big deal really plus it would make things easier if she didn't have to worry about change or paying for things separate. She resumed her objective as she turned back towards the aisle and stood from her chair, pausing however when green eyes locked onto someone familiar.

Her look of mild surprise at the unexpected sight of him, soon turned into a smile for the same reason. A pleasant turn of events to see him on a chance outing.. she thought for a brief second about going over to his table, until green eyes shifted to follow the direction of his gaze to the redhead he was leaning towards. Mariel's smile faded to a curious look as she considered her presence. A working lunch possibly, given the time of day and she wasn't exactly one to jump to conclusions, though she did briefly wonder how long he had been here and whether or not he had seen her. Of course she had her back to him somewhat, but he had been in a more optimal location to see her.. She narrowed her eyes a bit wondering why he hadn't at least come over to say hi.

"Be right back," she mumbled distractedly to her tablemates as she walked over to the counter to get in line for her order. Mariel considered herself a fair person and she could lend the benefit of the doubt.. to a point. That window of time never lasted long however, though for him she was willing to offer a little more. For now though, she'd wait in this line for her things if he felt the need to acknowledge her presence. Because certainly he could see her now being in plain view.. provided he wasn't too distracted. She glanced back that way, first catching another familiar person in her sight. Odd that she would see so many people she knew in one instance, especially in a muggle locale. But she pushed that thought away for now, simply offering Simon a small smile before shifting her green eyes to another table. Her focus was elsewhere.

Holmesian Feline 03-14-2014 01:28 PM

Speaking of Mariel, something was bugging him about the woman and Simon couldn't quite put his finger on it. Granted the fact they had only really been in the same atmosphere on two occasions...the bowling alley and the ministry-wide training so he hadn't got the best reading on her. He caught the smile seemingly aimed at him and his curiousity rose. Whether she was watching them or not was just another thing in his thoughts and the auror decided to see if he could work any answers out. "Will you excuse me for a moment?" he asked politely, excusing himself from the table and from Sophie as he got back up to his feet. Hopefully his friend wouldn't mind the further interruption.

Approaching the counter, thankfully no one had been faster to join the queue so he was right behind the department head. That reminder alone gave him an idea. "Hey..." he said greeting the woman he had come up behind on the line. "I hear congradulations are in order," Simon added with a smile. Nice little way to start a conversation and be nice and supportive at the same time.

Hera 03-14-2014 01:40 PM

Emily didn't insist on forcing her money on Mariel, it would simply be a matter of returning the favour the next time, after all it was implied that there would be a next time in the woman's response. Something Emily found she didn't object to. "Sure, thanks," she replied swiftly before pocketing the cash again and waiting patiently as Mariel saw to their order.

Cynthia... Emily felt sorry for her already. She knew she wasn't the best company, silences were what she did best, and so the stiff silence between them now was to be expected. Though she was sitting and seemingly enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the cafe, she had her eyes and ears elsewhere. Jorge's presence was not forgotten, along with his red-headed company. She felt the looks she was getting, but wasn't fazed by them... yet. Then of course there was Bennett, she noted his movements but disregarded them quickly.

Left to her thoughts, a mental checklist of the never ending things to-do in the day, the week and beyond, Emily considered what the weekend might hold for her. She was adamant on getting some work done at home on Saturday at the least, if even only for a half day, but then Sunday would be free for welcome distractions.

emjay 03-14-2014 02:07 PM

Still vaguely watching the two at the table nearby, Mariel's eyes fell on the notebook laid open between them. Most likely a working lunch as she had thought, though she wasn't sure she liked how closely he was leaning towards her. Not something she was going to dwell on right this instant as she had other things to tend to and her eyes flicked over to the menu board. He could speak to her himself or else she'd make it a point to have a few words with him later.

For now, the brunette wondered if what she had in mind to order would be enough since she had her eye on the red velvet cupcakes earlier. Though that might prove to be too indulgent and she could certainly come back next week. The tuna croissant was too good not to have again. Making up her mind, she stepped forward in line as it got closer to her turn before she heard a voice behind her causing her to turn fully around.

"Oh.. Simon, hello," Mariel said, smiling at the man, though slightly surprised he had gotten in line behind her. She hadn't seen him walk over from his own table, but she supposed she had been in her own thoughts. And while the line wasn't very long, she certainly wasn't opposed to friendly company and light conversation while she waited. Her smile grew at his words, immensely proud of her promotion. "Well, thank you. I am quite pleased with the position." The situation could have been better of course, but she was confident it was nothing she couldn't handle.

"You know, I didn't realize this was such a Ministry hot spot," she said lightly before turning slightly more to the front. It was somewhat strange to her that a little muggle cafe would have quite a few people that worked there, especially being her first time here. Maybe it was the location.

Holmesian Feline 03-14-2014 08:36 PM

Was it him or did the woman seem a little surprised by his appearance? Had she been waving at someone else? Had she not seen him there? Or just hadn't expected him to come up to the counter as well since he hadn't thought to even move until after she had passed him.

"You're welcome," he returned, "I can imagine." To be honored in such away was a great achievement, even much moreso then his own Employee of the month title several months before. At the mention of the cafe being popular for them, Simon couldn't help to agree with Mariel. "I hadn't either," the auror remarked. "But then I suppose after the incident at work a couple of years ago, there skepticism of how well the other place really is. I wonder how well this café was used back then."

He debated his cover story for following her up to the line, his own gaze moving to the menu boards. Maybe some pastries to take back home since he usually didn't do much for breakfast. Thinking on food, Simon's gaze drifted to the woman. "So...have you gone out to celebrate? Pretty big deal."

Awwwwhaha, he thought she was pretty! Tori might have flushed a little at that comment, except that she really did like hearing it. Hehe. "Careful what you say to me, mister," she reached out and tapped his hand with a small wink. "Your girlfriend might get jealous." Though that would just make Tori's day.... hehe!

"I'm a good tour guide," Tori mentioned with a small nod, "in case you need to know the top places to hunt down sources." Since he was new to London and all... newish, anyway. She might have grown up in LA but she had top dog connections over here. She picked up the pen again.

Quote:

Well good luck is all I have to say.
Tori couldn't help it, she stole another peek at this infamous Emily woman. She laughed a little as her eyes returned to Jorge. "Yes, well, what can I say. I'm a hit with the boys." Boys, not men, because she wasn't THAT old. And no one could really argue that her ex was all that grown up. Meanwhile.... were all the Ministry people on the move or was that just her? Tori's eyebrows went up a little. It looked like that blonde Simon guy was moving in on Jorge's squeeze. She subtly tilted her head in their direction and wrapped a strand of hair around one finger, hoping that would attract Jorge's attention to LOOOOK.

"Just... let's just say you'll owe me one. We can figure out the deets later." Tori waved her free wrist at him. Her attention was totally on the Ministry dramallama about to go down right now.

Bazinga 03-15-2014 04:35 AM

Jorge’s eyes focused on Tori for a moment as he saw the flush. Why were women so easy to read and get to be in the palm of his hands. His smirk stayed on his lips as she tapped his hand. “My girlfriend is not the jealous type and she knows how I work.” He hoped she at least knew he was being faithful and his ways were being used just professionally. His eyes went back to the table that had Emily and Mariel to find Mariel gone. Had she left without him noticing? Well that would stink, he was hoping to leave with her. Glancing more he saw her standing at the counter. Maybe he’d get up for another coffee and buy her whatever she was planning on getting.

His focus moved back to the redhead near him. Tour guide, well this could be something to keep in mind. “I was finding some difficulties in a few areas, so maybe I’ll have to take you up on that.” His last trip to knockturn alley didn’t go over very well, which was unfortunate because dark wizards he usually was able to get in good with, but in Spain his ex was a dark wizard herself, that might have been the ticket in. He glanced at the notebook and just smiled finishing off his sandwich. “I never need luck.” He had ever confidence that he always got what he wanted in life.

Leaning back he was amused. Tori was so much like him, this was going to be a great team they could be together. “I can see that. You have many of my great qualities.” She knew though didn’ t she? He could tell by the way she acted. “I think we should team up for a few stories. We could probably bring down the entire ministry with our abilities to find information.” There were certainly plans forming in his head when he caught her doing something odd. His eyes followed her head and that’s when he saw Simon. A little close to Mariel don’t you think, but he just sat not trying to give it much thought, but it bugged him. Angelina was a nice girl and there Simon was at lunch with one and now chatting it up with Mariel. He assumed maybe they chatted often and he tried to tell himself they weren’t standing all that close, but he was going to start trying to reading lips, he was a report so he should be able to at least a little.

His eyes glanced at them, friendly, not really flirting though. No he knew flirting, so maybe he had nothing to worry about, but he didn’t like another guy talking to his girl. Though she probably talked to many men. She was the boss of a few he supposed, but Jorge still felt irritation over Simon talking to her. His coffee empty he thought about maybe going to get some more that way he could be closer, but there was still the Emily issue. He didn’t want to put Mariel in unneeded drama if Emily would start with him.

For now he would stay where he was unless Simon gave him a reason to move. His thoughts broken by Tori talking again, “Yeah.. yeah.. just let me know and I’ll see what I can do.” He was totally distracted from whatever she had been talking about.

emjay 03-15-2014 05:13 AM

It was quite an accomplishment to be recognized for one's hard work and dedication in the way she had been, wasn't it? Simon was awfully sweet to make it a point to say so and she'd graciously accept his words of praise. Her nearly complacent smile reflected that. But as he continued, she turned a little more fully towards him, green eyes narrowed a bit as she tried to work out what he meant.

"Incident?" She made sure to keep her voice low in case it was something one of the muggle patrons shouldn't be privy to. It sounded quite interesting and she wasn't so sure she knew exactly what this incident was. Of course she hadn't been at the Ministry for more than a few years and she spent so much of her time there only on her level earning her promotion that even if this incident happened while she was there, she might not have heard about it. But someone in MLE might be more likely to know something of that nature anyway.

Subconsciously, her green eyes followed Simon's gaze to the menu board. She wasn't sure why exactly as she had long since made up her mind on the two lattes and the cinnamon scrolls, but realized it was probably one of those instinctive things and didn't think much of it, instead noticing that the line hadn't moved at all before turning back to the man behind her as he spoke again. "I suppose a bit of celebrating did happen when I found out," she said, her smile growing as she grew lost in thought. And though she had gone out several times since then, none of it was specifically because of that, was it? That was a idea. "You're right," she grinned. "It is a big deal. I really should do something special to mark the occasion."

Oh. Simon was afraid of overstaying his break. Sophie almost let out a giggle. And here she had been thinking up allergies or something as a cause for Simon’s reluctance towards sharing a scone with her. Her healer brain needed to take a break. Taking another coffee sip Sophie swallowed before responding. "I of course don't want to make you late getting back to work. Is your boss strict?"

"I suppose your job is confidential but have you been in anything extra scary since you’ve started working in MLE?" Sophie asked curiously. It was fine if Simon evaded the question but it was something she had wondered about. How much truth was it to the stories she read in the Daily Prophet? Had there really been a disease at the ministry some years ago that had quarantined people for the own safety?

Sophie only gave the brunette ministry worker a brief glance before focusing on her coffee again. When Simon stood up and excused himself Sophie nodded. "Sure, I'm not going anywhere." Taking up her magazine again she watched how Simon walked over to talk to the brunette. Opening her magazine Sophie engrossed herself in an article about some new scientific discovery.

Holmesian Feline 03-15-2014 09:17 PM

Simon almost raised an eyebrow as Mariel questioned the mention of incident but did his best not to arouse trouble. Didn't she know? It had been pretty expansive over the whole ministry and he had been pulled into the think of it by the likes of Izzy and Kyle. Memories that threatened caused the auror to absently shake his head to wave them off before doing his best to explain given their local. "Um...food from the cafeteria was making a lot of people act all...weird." He wasn't sure Zombielike would go unnoticed by the other patrons if they overheard.

Okay, so that avenue had been gone down...or had it?. First the woman spoke of going out and then acted as it hadn't happened. Simon tried to figure out the underlining messages as they both moved up in the queue. "You really should," he agreed, glad she was starting to think the same way. "A nice night out....maybe someplace you haven't been before. It's certainly what I would do if myself or the woman I was with had gotten a promotion." Maybe even more so for his girlfriend since he'd be more proud of her then himself.

Although he would actually have to have one and that didn't appear to be happening anytime soon.

"I might even offer a lunch to a friend in...in some cases."

"How fortunate for you," she remarked with an amused smirk. "Flirtatious men like yourself have it so easy." Women like her, on the other hand, were constantly judged and put down for their pretty looks. She glanced at the notebook, which was going unused now, but didn't put it away just yet. It looked good, like they were really working here hah.

Difficulties.... hmm, now that sounded like a story for Tori. "Go on," she encouraged him, leaning forward a little and polishing off her pastry. Delicious, flaky pastry. No wonder so many Ministry employees were here... this bakery really had something going for it.

"Do I?" she laughed again. "I can see that humility is one we definitely DON'T share." Both reporters liked to toot their own horn, so what? "I can go along with that," she nodded. "The place is already on the way down and out, with this Minister... and the lack of a secure, central location...." The British government was in the dumps. She was hoping some of these Ministry types were eavesdropping just now.

She could tell Jorge was watching the blonde guy chatting up his girlfriend right now, so she leaned across the table a littttle more. "Are you going to do something about that?" she egged him on in a low tone. Not that Tori wanted trouble for Jorge, but well.... a good story was a good story. "I wonder what they're talking about..." If Jorge wasn't heading over there, she would! Hehe.

emjay 03-16-2014 04:16 AM

Mariel watched Simon carefully as he started to vaguely explain, a very faint, understanding smile falling over her features as she realized what he was referring to. "Weird.. yes," she started with a nod. "That was right around or right before I started there, but yes, I know what you mean." She supposed he had been too generalized earlier and it had been quite a while ago. Though she remembered that horrible Dartanian Leroy who nearly attacked her when she had taken the tour of the Ministry. She might have almost felt sorry for him if he wasn't so arrogant. And when she had questions about what exactly was going on, there was that creepy Tyler who was more interested in trying to hold her hand than to give her any straight answers. Idiot. Best to put that whole time out of her memory and thankfully it had been resolved not long after she had started at the Ministry.

Someplace she hadn't been.. she did like the sound of that. But honestly, she had been to a couple new places since then, even if they hadn't been specifically to celebrate her promotion. Did she really need something else? Her thoughts a million miles away, the brunette smiled at the thought of those nights out. "Oh, that's a lovely idea," she agreed a bit distractedly. "Might have to keep that in mind." But even if she didn't, she thought she had it well enough.

Still rather lost in thought, green eyes snapped up to Simon at his next words, watching him carefully. "In some cases?" she questioned lightly, repeating his words back to him. Was he referring to her?

Bazinga 03-16-2014 04:40 AM

Whelp.. Let the games begin!

Jorge smirked, “We have it easy? Do you know how many hoops I’ve jumped through to get a girl to talk.” Not that he minded those hoops and favors, no he rather enjoyed them. Though some of those hoops were off limits now, but he could still work his magic pretty well. “I just don’t see you having much of a problem getting some sources and leads.” No her batting her eyes could get a good story out of some poor sucker.

So she wanted the story, “In Spain I found it easy to get to know the ins and outs of dark wizards. An old girlfriend was one and her awful husband was one I liked to write stories on, but here they are way more suspicious of new comers it seems. One put a few hexes and curses on me.” He was bald with a wart and danced with a Goblin. Not the worse thing he had been through. “I’m going to take another trip there soon though.” He would find at least one acquaintance at some point in time. “You should have friends everywhere, it’s the best way to get the good stories.” Hence his newest friend would come in very handy. Right up with the minister, Joao would be very beneficial to him.

He waved off reaction and words, “Deny if you wish, but I can see it.” The ministry was already going down, “Why not kick it while it’s down then, it’s the best time to find the best stories. With you and I working together I think we could really shake things up around here.” His eyes glanced at Emily, “Though she is one that might like you shaking things up more than me.” None of his magic worked on her, maybe Tori’s would.

His eyes were starting to lock on Simon’s head. He was being super chatty with Mariel and about what? Work? Social? What was he getting at? Just move along, he really wondered if Angelina knew about his little lunch breaks now. His jealous side starting to try and creep up he twitched his wand hand, how easy it would be to hit him without him even seeing. His eyes turned back to Tori as she spoke, do something? Should he? It would uncover them being there and make Emily super suspicious, and it would probably ruin whatever ties Mariel had with Emily since they were together. It was a hard situation and he fully saw the hardship he was faced with dating a department head. It was going against everything he was working on, but he cared for her and he was trying to keep them separate.

Eyes moving back to Simon just as he saw a reaction from Mariel. He had read people’s faces long enough to figure things out and Mariel’s face showed that he had just asked something she wasn’t sure about, or was surprised about. Was he making a move on his girlfriend.

“I’m going to do something right now.” He got up with one swift movement and made his way quickly towards the front counter. Mariel facing him would probably see him coming Simon not well would soon see him. As he approached he shoved Simon away from Mariel, “Is he bothering you?” His first question was to Mariel and a quick kiss on the cheek before turning towards Simon. “Kind of funny MLE all around on breaks, no wonder criminals get away so easily. Seems to me the Aurors are too busy hitting on other people’s girlfriends.” His smirk was on his face and he was ready to hex this man’s face off if he didn’t leave Mariel alone.

So she was aware of what he was refering to and didn't have to go into heavier detail. Good. It was an uncomfortable topic for most, deeply for himself, and he wasn't really in the mood to dig up old ghosts. Even if he had been the first one to mention it. Simon had meerly been making an observation in answer to Mariel's comment about ministry being plentiful in these parts. Surely he himself felt better being outside the speciality area and its tainted cafe after the incident...why shouldn't others?

There was further reaction from the woman, his own words echoed back at him askance of more information. "It would depend on the situtation," he answered as he turned back to the board. technically still working on a decision. " And how cl--" he started to say before breaking off as he was interrupted. The auror had heard the hurried footsteps coming from behind him only to turn in response just as he was shoved away. What in Merlin's beard? The sight of the reporter was certainly not a welcome one at the moment. Or ever really, but especially as rudely as he had come into the mix of things.

And what was he saying?

"Asking out girlfriends?" Simon questioned as he recovered from the sudden action, a frown upon his face. "We were just talking...but then as a journalist, you wouldn't have your facts straight." No he was NOT bothering her or asking her out. Nor letting criminals escape. Period. Thank you very much.

Right?

emjay 03-16-2014 09:08 PM

Mariel watched Simon carefully as he spoke, trying to interpret his words. Maybe he had just generalized his statement earlier and she had misread his hesitation, though he remained cryptic, not that it would ultimately matter. And she didn't have any time to think on whether he meant what she thought or didn't because a movement soon caught her eye and she turned more fully, her eyes widening slightly as Jorge quickly approached.

He did not look happy and she tried to think if she had ever seen him look quite that way before. Again, no time to really think as she gasped a little, surprised to see him suddenly shove Simon away from her. What was happening? She turned her widened eyes on him as he addressed her and she looked at him, stunned for a moment, before she was able to speak. "Of course he's not bothering me. We were just talking whilst waiting on line." Really, Simon was a gentleman, at least from what she knew of him.. he was harmless, wasn't he?

Oh.. She supposed it was the sudden surprise in the turn of events but it had taken her a minute to realize that he was jealous. Really, didn't he know that he had nothing to worry about. Though the brunette did find it awfully sweet that Jorge could become so protective of her, even if it was very misplaced today. She was not about to get in the middle of their mutual dislike for one another's professions. Mariel was well aware of it from both sides and felt it futile at this point to say anything. But her green eyes found his face at his last words and she placed her hand on his arm. "No one's hitting on me," she said, shaking her head gently. Or asking her out or whatever since she apparently misread things anyway. But that saved her the trouble of letting anyone down.

Text Cut: Jorge
Quote:

"Pffffft, all you have to do is buy her a latte and a croissant and boom, her lips are moving." Tori gestured to her own little pastry, which was eaten by now, and her nearly-empty coffee cup. She raised her eyebrows. "I'm going to take that as a compliment, Señor." Because she always liked to look on the brightside, unlike some Greingoths people.

"Agreed, agreed," the ginger nodded and finished off her coffee. Mmhmmm, kick it while it's down. She liked his Slytherin spirit, and her hazel eyes once again landed on that Emily character. Jorge's charm never worked on her? Was he saying she didn't LIKE attractive men? "I'll have to see what I can do," Tori murmured, more to herself than to the reporter across from her.

Op, and now things were getting exciting. Excellent. Tori couldn't help the devilish smirk that appeared upon her lips, and as the scene began to unfold, she rested her wand arm on her notebook and pen. At her touch, the pen just happened to turn into a recording device pointed at Jorge, his girlfriend, and the blonde MLEr. Hum de dummmm.

Bazinga 03-16-2014 10:39 PM

So he wasn’t bothering her, well Jorge’s eyes stayed locked on Simon, because the man wasn’t to be trusted. MLE wasn’t to be trusted. It didn’t matter what country he was in it seemed to always be the same story. "Well from where I was sitting it seemed that he was wanting a little more than just talking.” and by the surprise that had come on Mariel’s face he thought she’d agree. He still stayed in front of her with the smirk towards Simon. He knew how to push buttons and it was a game to push them. He highly enjoyed pushing them really.

Was he trying to get his face knocked in? Jorge stepped a bit closer, “Oh I always have my facts straight. It’s a gift to figure things out, something that I think your department lacks.” Have they ever figured anything out really? “From where my coworker and I were it really seemed to me that you were trying to do more than just friendly talking.” Honestly he didn’t know from Simon since the man’s back was to him, but Mariel’s face he knew well. He stared at it often. He loved to stare at it, but who wouldn’t. He knew all the looks she gave and could read them well.

“Plus what would Angelina think if she knew her boyfriend was out on a lunch date and hitting on another woman. Three women Simon, I’m impressed that you could even snag one let alone try for three. Don’t get ahead of yourself.” Really the man should just be glad he had one like Angelina. She was sweet and deserved better. Feeling the arm on his he glanced only a moment at Mariel before fixing his smirk and eyes back on Simon, “You beautiful are blind if you think he wasn’t. Though maybe your right he might have known you are better than him and not waste his time." Really he should know better than think he was on the same level as Mariel.

Holmesian Feline 03-16-2014 11:18 PM

Simon's gaze met Jorge's, steady and straight. The journalist...nah gossip writer was no better then the paper his articles were printed in and he certainly didn't like the man. Not his field of work, nor the way he treated anyone, especially women. Even as he stepped closer, the former Gryffindor stayed put not about to be manipulated or fearful of his companion. It wasn't like he was a dark wizard.

And now Angelina was mentioned and Simon couldn't help but feel a slight flush of...what was it...anger...rising within him. SHE wasn't any part of this. Neither was Sophie, the other woman he was supposed to be 'dating' in all this. The auror took a deep breath as he focused on letting it go. Here was not a place to cause trouble. If only the cafe surrounding them was one of the Diagon Alley staples. "Yeah...your info is soooo correct and you don't even know that Angelina is not my girlfriend. Nor am I dating the former housemate of mine who I happened to randomly run into here on break."

Really...this was what he considered getting his facts straight.

And his coworker...any chance she was a woman? Pot calling the kettle black anyone? "But you'd know all about juggling three women...wouldn't you De La Garza?" he questioned rhetorically as he worked to keep his cool. "You were doing pretty good at New Years. What with Mariel, Maria and Angelina garnishing your attention. How come you're jealous of my time speaking to Mariel now when you didn't seem to care she walked out then?"

Daresay most would consider him a better gentleman than the one currently saying he wasn't good enough for the department head. Not that he wanted to date her.

Hera 03-17-2014 12:48 AM

Things were happening.

She was aware of it.

Nothing good ever came from having journo's, department heads and aurors in close proximity... though what she found more curious, was this thing Mariel seemed to have with Jorge. Merlin. No. Just no.

A quick glance at her watch told her it was the end of her break, and she didn't have the patience to sit and watch the kerfuffle unfold. No, she had better things to do, better places to be - she had a job to do. And provided Bennett's break wasn't at an end, so did he. With a last fleeting smile to Cynthia, Emily gave her a watered down version of what might have been a sincere apology and took her leave from the table, approaching the small group that were making a scene.

"Excuse me Mariel, if it's all the same I'll take a rain check on that coffee." Yeah, she was ignoring the confrontation, they were annoying, especially when that arrogant man was involved, eyes on you De La Garza. She was tempted to ask if he was going to buy her that lunch now, if only to stir things up. But go figure, she actually kinda liked Mariel. The red head... got a once over, Emily saw her too. "How about you all exchange words in a more private setting? Hhhmmm?" ... somewhere away from muggles, so that idiots like De La Garza wouldn't go losing their heads making loud proclamations about MLE and Aurors. Circe help her.

emjay 03-17-2014 01:21 AM

Her hand still on his arm, Mariel thought over Jorge's words for a moment. Did it look like that from where he was sitting? She supposed it was possible that Simon had another motive for coming up to stand behind her in line and the idea that he was implying something had briefly crossed her mind. Her eyes flickered over to Simon quickly before looking back to Jorge. "Possibly," she shrugged. "But it wouldn't have mattered either way. Nothing was going to happen." She wasn't interested in anything other than some friendly conversation and even if he had tried to turn it into more than that, she knew how to take care of things like that.

But it didn't seem like her words were doing much good. As much as she liked Jorge coming to her supposed rescue, Simon hadn't really done anything wrong, though he was set on seeing it that way. She couldn't be too upset with him though, the intent certainly was noble. Fine, he could get his say in, she wasn't going to interfere much in that if he truly felt it was necessary. Green eyes lifted to his brown eyes when he addressed her again. Maybe Simon had been leaning that way, she certainly wouldn't have been surprised, but he had to know nothing would have come of it. She was really just ready to leave at this point. "Really, Jorge, that's enough," she began lightly, feeling that he was starting to cross a line. He didn't need to be that insulting."It's fine.."

And it would have been too, until Simon opened his mouth.

Her eyes grew wide as she heard his words and she turned sharply to stare at him, livid that he would mention that night that she tried so hard to forget. "How dare you bring that up," she started, her tone low and dangerous. "You do not get to comment on my actions or my relationship. You don't know what went on after that and you don't know the whole story." Not that she was ever going to explain that to him, but he didn't know anything about what went on between the two of them and she was furious that he would have the nerve to go there with her standing right there.

Trying to regulate her breathing, the brunette looked up as she heard another voice speaking her name. Emily.. "Oh.. of course," she said quickly, shaking her head a bit distractedly. At this point she had forgotten the coffee and to forget it until another time would be fine with her. She was ready to take Jorge and get out of here.

Bazinga 03-17-2014 01:42 AM

Mariel was still talking and trying to change Jorge’s mind, but this.. this was a game to him now. Let’s see how annoyed we could get the big tough Auror. What a joke really, they all were and he was going to see to it that everyone knew how pathetic they were. His smirk continued to grow with Angelina’s name, “Well then you are the blind one aren’t you? The girl has eyes for you, that is obvious and as angered as you got by my presences you have the same for her. Pity because she could do so much better. Hopefully she has.” He hadn’t talked to her in sometime, maybe he’d make sure she knew some things about this one. “Honestly thought maybe you should change careers in trying to pick up women, obviously it’s going better for you than picking up criminals. When’s the last time you did that? ”

His smirk that was there quickly faded as Simon said the only thing that could even remotely send his usual calm manner into a rage. If it was just him here, he would have laughed it off and continued on pushing the Auror’s buttons, but Mariel had to hear it. They were so beyond past it, but bringing up Maria and the cheating that was crossing a line. Hearing Mariel he knew she would be upset and he lifted his hand, to stop her talking and to get her arm off of his, because he was moving.

Oh but joy Emily was there, possibly to save the day. He didn’t even bother with her, his eyes were still set on Simon and he possibly bumped into Emily as he continued moving right in front of Simon, “You don’t speak to either of us about our relationship. That was months ago, how pathetic needing to find a comeback and have nothing so you bring up something three months ago?” He took his hands shoving the Auror harder and with more intent this time, hopefully the table right behind him would find its way to trip him.

With one more shove he glared at the man, “You ever come near my girlfriend again or bring up that night I don’t need to be in our area to mess up your face I can do it just as well right here.” He didn’t need his wand, he knew how to fight muggle style.

Holmesian Feline 03-17-2014 02:22 AM

With permission from Jorge's keeper

It seemed the nerve he had hit had a widder impact then the one Jorge had to him. Did that mean he one-uped the man's attempts to get him to lose control? Not really as he had officially upset Mariel as well which he hadn't meant to do in any way. She was just an innocent bystander just like his friend Sophie whom he might have to leave plain and simple if things got worse. Now that hurt him as he hated to suddenly be on someone's bad side and he sighed. Even if it was his own fault for bringing it up.

Taking the high road, he allowed the second shove from Jorge, keeping his feet as the auror simply listened to what was being said to him not pushing it further. Especially as his boss joined the mix. "Of course," he said simply, agreeing to Emily's suggestion to take this to private quarters. He would be quite fine with not being out in the open right now and get more attention then they likely were already getting.

However as the journalist moved to push him again, Simon gave up and grabbed the man's arm. The auror then using the momentum to bring it back behind Jorge and then pushing him towards the table he had felt previously behind him. "Noted...no hanger for me," he mused, glancing at Emily and hoping he wasn't going to regret this. She had seen the other man was the cause of all the trouble...right?

"And in my defense...I'm acting in protection of myself and others and back off my break. And you just assaulted a member of law enforcement." The last added as he cleaned closer, grabbing for the other arm hopefully made easier by the surprise of his actions. Be it magical or muggle, both were frowned upon and subject to some type of punishment. "Perhaps we should be adjourning somewhere after all."

BanaBatGirl 03-17-2014 02:37 AM

ahem you lot

Tori's eyes had just widened and widened at this mess going down. Her mouth had started to fall open too, as Jorge showed that spitfire Spaniards were known for. But what could she say... she was LOVING this drama!

Right up until the point that her coworker was arrested, that is. Tori stood up abruptly from her table, not sure what she was going do but knowing that she needed to do something now. She grabbed her bag, pen and notebook, and bustled over to the table, tucking the microphone pen behind one ear as she did.

"Excuse me," the redhead piped up in a most posh accent, inserting herself right into the thick of it beside the blonde auror currently manhandling Jorge. "But if you are going to arrest my client, then I insist on coming with you to make sure everything is being played strictly by the book." She gave Jorge a clear SHUT UP expression and a rather librarian-look to the Auror.

emjay 03-17-2014 03:16 AM

Mariel was still pretty ticked off by what Simon said and was sure Jorge wouldn't be thrilled either, though she wasn't sure she expected quite the reaction he had. This was the angriest she had ever seen him and sure, she figured on some words being said given the mood, though she hadn't quite foreseen the action.

Her eyes widened as she watched him shove Simon hard against the table, again too surprised to move for a split second. This was escalating far too quickly. Oh no, she did not want anyone's face messed up, least of all her Jorge's. Putting her hand on his arm a little more purposefully this time, hoping to bring his attention away from the Auror, she said, "Jorge, let's just go." She was more than ready to get out of this place and away from this mess before it got any worse. And then it did.

"What are you--" she started on Simon, staring at him in disbelief as he grabbed Jorge's arm and pulled it back behind him, stopping as she heard his words. Defense of himself and others.. please. No one was really going to get hurt here. Well, she supposed there was the potential with the whole messing up faces thing, but was this really necessary? He was just blowing off some steam and they were on their way out, she was about to see to that.

Before she could say anything else, she arched an eyebrow as the little redhead Jorge was babysitting made her way over. Client..? And now she was going to play make-believe like she was his attorney or something, whatever. She seemed to be on his side, so the brunette said nothing, just narrowed her eyes at her a moment before turning back to Simon again.

"Surely you're not arresting him?" Mariel began, in a slightly outraged tone. She was already annoyed and this certainly wasn't making it any better. He could not be serious. "You aren't seriously calling that an assault.. you weren't actually hurt by that?" Please. It wasn't as if they actually had gotten into a physical fight, then she could almost see the validity. This was just ridiculous.

Hera 03-17-2014 03:41 AM

................................. This, was why she didn't like people. This was why she didn't like spending time with people.

Drama was overrated, and what was all this about boyfriends? girlfriends? relationships? drama? he said, she said? WHAT?! ...................................

And then there was the pushing. Emily barely bat an eyelash as Jorge moved past her, bumping her in the shoulder in the process. She could see why he did it, but it didn't excuse him for being a slimeball of a journo. "His rights, Bennett," she prompted - at least the watered down Statute friendly version. If he was going to go all gung-ho and press charges on the matter he was going to do it BY THE BOOKS!....... Or had her time at the helm not taught him anything? BY THE BOOK! Especially when reporters were involved, the only alternative option would be to off them... the world would be a better place without them. "Lets calm down and discuss this elsewhere... come to some form of resolution, no?" She spared Mariel a look. He did assault Bennett. Besides, they had a lonely holding cell which would love some company. Poor rats in there were likely on the verge of tears from lack of affection and company.

And oh?

Emily gave the redhead ANOTHER once over, a more critical one this time. "I'll need to see your credentials and you'll have to undergo a brief security screening..." but otherwise, sure.

It was a shame disarming De La Garza publically wasn't an option. It'd have to wait.

Bazinga 03-17-2014 04:02 AM

In one moment he was shoving and threatening in the next his arm was behind him and Jorge wasn’t going down without a struggle. He moved and twisted, “Let go of me.” Smirk back on his face, “Go figure MLE can’t find the real criminals so they have to taunt and push until someone snaps on them so they can pretend to be big and bad. “ MLE what a joke. As he was being pushed into the table he chuckled, “Is that really all the force you have?” Did Emily employee the weakest? Maybe that’s how De Talone got away, she paid them to have the weakest security.

His other arm behind his back he laughed more, “Assaulted you call that assaulted. Oh if I knew this was going to happen I would have made sure an assault was in order.” He wiggled more taking an elbow back towards Simon. If he was getting arrested he surely was going to have great reasons.

Glancing at Tori his grin widen, she was seriously a journalist on her toes. It was brilliant really and he just nodded playing along. He wasn’t sure how to explain it to Mariel, but he wasn’t going to say no either. Get her there, she saw how Simon pushed him, innocent Journalist pushed to a breaking point by arrogant Auror. It had the best headline written all over it.

His smirk faded hearing Mariel, this was his weaker point and he knew it, but the smirk was only gone for a moment, “Beautiful don’t even worry about it. I’ll be fine.” He might need some bail later though, but who knew what these yoyo’s had in store for him. Brown eyes now to Emily, he knew she would be all about this. He looked her over, “My rights.” What a joke this was, go on with it Bennett. He rolled his eyes still every so often giving a jerk or an elbow backwards. If the muggles were going to see Midas well give them some fun. “You couldn’t wait to get me in a cell all to yourself couldn’t you Emily.” Sarcasm full in his voice. Glancing at Tori again as she was asked to show credentials, he wasn’t worried at all, she was smart she’d have something.

Holmesian Feline 03-17-2014 08:14 PM

His attention on Jorge, Simon was still aware of the others. From Mariel, who was clearly surprised by what he was doing. To Emily, his boss, who seemed to be going along with his actions...for now. And finally the redheaded young woman who had suddenly joined the group and claimed to be the journalist's lawyer. Yeah right, that was too much of a coincidence to be at least totally truthful. "Yeah I am and my being hurt doesn't matter. Would you prefer him being in greater trouble for other items." As in the possible statute violalations Jorge had been likely heading towards if he let his raised anger cloud his choice of words.

He simply nodded as Emily spoke up about Jorge's rights. "Yes, I was getting to that." This was probably not one of his better ideas, but he was at least going to do it right and not risk anymore trouble in the matter. Especially since the third woman was either really a lawyer or someone trying to cause more hot water for Simon and willing to go to great lengths for that. Hmm...interesting Simon couldn't help looking back at Jorge. Was he cheating himself and tried turning the ball on someone else instead?

That thought would have to wait.

"You have the right to remain silent...which I advise you to use," he stated as he started rattling of the various statements he had to by law, leaving out or modifying any words that weren't proper in the muggle environment. By the book of course. Thankfully the lawyer was being handled by Emily so he could simply deal with the agressive Spaniard. The one still trying to shoot his mouth off and bug everyone around him. No he would not be letting go and Simon countered every move made with Jorge keeping the struggle in balance.

"You wouldn't be able to speak if I used my full force," the auror remarked so only his captive could hear him. Taking the hint from his fellow law enforcer, Simon finally got a better grip on the agressive man and moved him out of the shop. His gaze passing around to calculate his next move, finding a location out of sight to portkey out of to the department. Portkey! They really needed to get back to the ministry. He couldn't help shoving Jorge slightly for the remark he made to Emily about being alone in a cell with him. "Petrificulus Totalus," he cast quietly on the journalist once they were out of sight, ready to catch the man.

A dead-weight was better than a struggling charge.

BanaBatGirl 03-18-2014 12:50 AM

You know, up close and personal, the little blonde Auror guy was kinda cute But Tori would have to refrain from flirting with him, because he was the enemy right now. He was arresting her good coworker for no reason! POLICE BRUTALITY IN ACTION HERE!

Tori had to turn her attention, albeit reluctantly, cuz all this arresting stuff was hot, over to the brunette woman. Harsh, wasn't she? "Of course, I'll be happy to cooperate once procedures have been followed and we are on secure premises." Tori gave her a prim look and turned on her heel then. Simon was taking Jorge out now? Oh this was good. She was SO coming with, and jogged after them a little bit to keep up.

emjay 03-18-2014 02:04 AM

This was just pathetic. Mariel gave Simon a disgusted look as he confirmed that he was indeed arresting Jorge. And yes, technically him putting his hands on the other man was considered assault if he went so far as to charge him, she knew that logically, but come on. Jorge hadn't actually hit him and Simon could have just asked him to leave. Mariel had been more than willing to take him out of there. She thought Simon was being kind of lame to be honest. And honestly, she heard what he said, basically provoking Jorge to attack him. Borderline entrapment, really.

Now what was he on about with greater trouble? "Other items? What on earth are you talking about?" She shot the man an exasperated look. He had hardly done anything as it was, Simon was just being petty as far as she was concerned. And no, her preference would be for them to leave, not him being manhandled then hauled off on trumped up charges.

She frowned a bit as she looked at Jorge, hearing his words. Of course she was going to worry, she didn't know what exactly was going to happen to him and certainly didn't like the way he was being treated thus far. But she knew he was more than capable of holding his own. "I know, you will be" she told him quietly, nodding a bit to reassure herself as well, before letting out an annoyed sigh as rights were being read. "I'll be there as soon as I can," she said, putting her hand on his arm and looking up at him before Simon pulled him away. "Give me a minute to get a few things squared away at work, then I'll get this all straightened out." Her lunch break had come to an end and she did have responsibilities being in charge of her department. She had to at least check in and make sure things were taken care of because Merlin knew how long it would take to get this mess resolved.

Mariel couldn't fight the look she gave him at the comment he shot at Emily, though she knew he was just lashing out given the situation, not that she found it necessary. But it wasn't something she was about to dwell on. She gave Simon a glare as he passed, taking Jorge out and she watched the "attorney" flounce her way out the door before turning to Emily. Mariel was 150% done talking to Simon now and would much prefer speaking rationally to his employer anyway. "Where is he taking him now?" she asked, turning her questioning eyes to the MLE Head. She figured they were going to the Underground headquarters but really had no clue where she would be meant to go after that. "And what do I need to do to resolve this?" An honest question. She really didn't have much experience bailing out boyfriends from jail.

Cynthia noticed Emily sneak in a pitying look at her. She realized she wasn't supposed to have seen that, but it wasn't her fault. The witch was very talented at reading facial expressions. A thing that came in handy, she thought.

At any rate, she was not used to being pitied, nor did she enjoy it. Her spine stiffened more, if that was possible.
"Right, then," she said. Now that Mariel was talking to Simon, the conversation had come to an abrupt halt. Emily didn't say much. Indeed, she was more like Cynthia, socially. And two socially inept individuals equals, well, not much to say. But she'd try. "Did you like your food?"

Cynthia had never had a boyfriend, thank you very much. As was her motto, romance was a distraction from more important topics, such as work. It seemed like a whole bunch of drama. Especially when it involved bailing said boyfriend from jail.

If she were to have a boyfriend, he would not be one who would need to be bailed from jail. She was not clear on why Jorge needed bailing, but that was Mariel's problem. The Head and her boyfriend must have their reasons, and because Cynthia hadn't totally been listening, she didn't know. She kept quiet and listened in.

“Don’t you talk to her in that tone of voice.” He growled more than spoke towards Simon still moving his arms around. He started ranting in Spanish quickly and incoherently to most around him. Simon didn’t have to talk to Mariel nor Tori was such attitude. He was cocky wasn’t he? Mr. big and bad Auror when it didn’t matter. “Don’t worry ladies he’s just trying to impress you by arresting someone show that MLE can arrest them since they always seem to let the real ones go. “

He glanced up at Mariel and rolled his eyes as he heard Simon reading his rights. His elbow tossing stopped as Mariel placed a hand on his arm. He gave her one of the best smirks he could pull at the moment, “Take your time, Simon can’t wait to do some male bounding can’t you Simon?” He was going to reassure her as much as he could.

Oh was Simon whispering sweet nothings in his ear? “What was that? You want to use full force but boss is around. Did you hear that Miss Bunbury? My lawyer might like to know these things. Thought I’d like to see you try.” He gritted his teeth in the last part, “Tough words for someone that has a guys hands behind his back. Maybe you should try to play fair and see how well you do.” He was going to keep shooting off his mouth and not making it easy for Simon. Once the Auror started forcing him out of the café Jorge walked with an aggressive stride out the door giving a final glance to his girlfriend.

“You think you are so bad ..” but in an instant he wasn’t moving at all. His body bind together and he was falling backwards towards Bennett. Words were flying through his head even if he couldn’t say them. This was ridiculous.. uncalled for.. it couldn’t be procedure. Tori saw this right, she was getting all of this down? He was stuck not moving and being held by the Auror.

HE WAS FURIOUS!

Minding his own business over here, and really Rusty had been.... laying low. Because of reasons. Awkward reasons. Thanks to certain department heads who apparently thought it was a good idea to get him some publicity. And he'd been doing his best to keep the Daily Prophet out of the hands of his daughter too since he didn't really want her to read that particular article and start asking questions. This wasn't easy, she was a big fan of newspapers.

It was time for lunch and Rusty went for a wander in the Muggle part of London. Muggles didn't read the Daily Prophet, so it seemed safe and besides it was good coffee and he could get a cupcake or something to take home to Lola.

Arm linked with her sister's, Kiera tossed her blonde hair over her shoulders as they approached the cafe while her frosty eyes surveyed the outdoor seating for a nice sunkissed table for them to sit at. It was nice having her sister back in town since her brother was away at Hogwarts, even if Daphne had never been particularly fond of these girlish brunch dates.

Spotting a table, she gave Daphne's arm a tug and began to lead them towards it when she stopped quite suddenly and her eyes widened while she bit down on her lower lip and grinned at the same time.

Oh Merlin. Stop go stop go stop. Couldn't Kiera make up her bloomin' mind what she was going to do? Not to mention the dragging along. Daphne was perfectly capable of walking on her own and did not need someone directing her as to where her feet should lead to next. So it was no wonder that when her sister came to a halt once again she let out an annoyed groan. "What?" she snapped, rolling her eyes as she followed the blonde's gaze. "You have got to be kidding me."

Knowing full well that Kiera would just stand there looking like some fragile creature fangirling internally over some pretty face, the brunette unlinked her arm and took the few steps remaining to arrive beside the man. "So...you're the poor sap whose face was in the paper."

And what in Hades was going on over at that other table? Idiots.

"I'll have a coffee... just a flat white please... and a sausage roll heated up." Rusty made his order and peered into the display case, "And I'll get a scone... and a cupcake. One of those ones with the pink icing. Can I have the cupcake to go, please?" He paid with his Muggle plastic card, the one he had to sign for, and took one of the metal things with a number so that they'd know where to bring what he'd ordered when his coffee was ready.

He really WAS just keeping to himself. And besides, it was safe here... or so he'd thought right up until the moment where some lady spoke to him.

....... in a way that made it ENTIRELY clear that she was no muggle. Rustin blinked and turned to look at her, having a fight or flight moment but ending up settling for neither. She got a sheepish grin instead. "That'd be me."

Not that he would call himself a SAP but... he did feel reasonably poorly about the whole situation. It was terribly awkward.

Excuse me Mr. IdiotWomanisingReporter... say what?

"If I wanted you all to myself I would have taken you up on your lunch offer... but alas, I'd rather not waste my time in your company if I can help it." Or had he forgotten his persistence? Emily didn't mean any ill toward Mariel, but if De La Garza was going to shoot his mouth off at her, then she'd shoot him down in the process. Idiot. The Prophet's standards were very clearly dropping if these were the types they employed. It wreaked of disappointment.

At least the redhead, despite her distrustful enthusiasm, was willing to cooperate and follow procedure, or else she'd find herself in a cell too for wasting law enforcement time and impeding an arrest. Nasty fines they were, but excellent for their returning-to-the-MoM-coffee-facilities fund. Emily watched the muggle populous as Bennett escorted De La Garza out... this whole non-apparitioning thing was a pain in the butt to be sure - if only Newell could get his department together and hook them up so they wouldn't have to use friggin muggle transportation or portkey in emergency -- aka, criminal transportation. Asking them to sit tight on a bus and tube ride was hardly appropriate. And as inconvenient as portkeying in was, she figured the auror would manage without her while she ensure they weren't followed by curious muggle eyes.

Exhaling a sigh, Emily cracked her neck to the side before letting her hazel eyes rest on Mariel. What did she need to do? She wanted to help the lowlife? ... Emily almost felt sorry for her, but she made her bed, so she could lay in it. "Well, as Bennett appears to be pressing charges, he'll be written up, fined and kept overnight... unless he posts bail." Or unless she posted it for him. But really, it wasn't worth it. Let the rats enjoy his company a little while. He belonged there. "We can discuss this further at the office if you like." The term office used incredibly loosely in this instance.

And... was that an afterthought? Cynthia bothered sticking around for the sideshow? Well good on her.
"Food... was excellent... but if you'll excuse me, work beckons. It was a pleasure meeting your acquaintance." She offered the woman a curt nod, and gestured to Mariel that she was welcome to join if she was able to. Otherwise, she'd be seeing her later.

Scenes. Did people not know how much she hated scenes? And drama? Consider her mood soured.

Ignoring the way Kiera was stiffly following, her legs barely even bending at the knees, Daphne shifted her eyes from the guy to the menu up on the wall. She had caught the boyish look one his face out of the corner of her eye, but all it resulted in was an amused smirk to form on her lips. "Take it you didn't put yourself up for it then," she said, eyes back on the menu now.

If only the other register would open up so she could move there to place her order.

Lips pursing in disbelief at how blunt her sister was being, Kiera worried that the gentleman would be offended. She couldn't sense such a feeling from him at present, nor was his body language exactly indicating anything other than sheer embarrassment. Her movements almost robotic in nature, she eventually made it to her Daphne's side, the side opposite Rusty, and proceeded to stare at the counter.

And away we go

Simon rolled his eyes as Jorge continued to speak out and trying to play coy even when his physical fight seemed to have left him. He might have understood only half of it since the journalist was switching between English and spanish but still it was enough to annoy him even a little. Even him trying to put words in his mouth to go with the whispered ones the auror had given to an act of anger. However he was trying to remain mostly cool himself to see if the man even bothered to stop when it appeared as if his taunts weren't working or continue on regardless.

The sooner they got away the better. After a while, Simon wasn't even waiting on the others since Emily had opted to stay behind with the other two women. Fine by him.

He couldn't help smirk though when Jorge's words were finally cut off by his spell. What...what was that he was trying to say? Nothing he cared to know about and instead he disarmed the man and reached into a pocket for a reserve portkey he had stashed there as a precaution. Hadn't exactly planned on arresting anyone today but then deTalone and her lawyer were still out so it seemed a worthy idea. Activating it, the auror waited with one hand holding it as the other had a firm grasp on the journalist leaning in his hold

One trip to the MLE holding cells...coming up.

Ooooooh boy, that cutie pattootie Auror was a big bad stinker, wasn't he? Going off of Jorge's words... and his Spanish ones, because she did know some Spanish.... he was MAD. Steamed up. Rightfully so, too. Just look at the mess the MLE had made in front of MUGGLES!

Tori tsked loudly as Simon dragged her friend out. Then she whirled on the department head. "Hold it, let's not forget me," she spoke up loudly. "I'm coming too. My client has rights, you know." She planted herself deliberately in the way of the MLE woman and crossed her arms.

Don't worry about bail, she wanted to say to Jorge's girlfriend. The Daily Prophet would likely be paying for this one, along with some real legal representation. But she could hardly explain all of that in front of this MLE witch. So instead, she gave the brunette a 'whaddaya gonna do' shrug/expression.

And ugh..........

In her way, she was.

Emily's flat expression was enough to show her distaste in the woman's exuberance. Get the preppy redhead out of her way, nowwwww.
"You're welcome to check yourself in at our reception desk, my staff will ensure you go through the proper channels." If she indeed was his attorney, then this would be of little news to her. What kind of attorney didn't know protocol? And she surely knew how to get to the DMLE, no? "Now if you'll excuse me, I have matters to attend to."

Side stepping the woman, Emily continued on her way.

BanaBatGirl 03-20-2014 12:31 AM

welllllllp we're leaving too :D PS EMJAY READ THIS POST :D

Pffft check in at the reception desk. So Jorge's girlfriend, just because she was a department head, got offered an escort to the MLE HQ. But Tori, because she was Jorge's "lawyer," got shuffled to the side.

"I see how it is," the redhead commented loudly, turning slowly on her heel to eye the Emily woman as she walked away. Uh huh. Well. She had her WAYS and MEANS to get to the MLE, and step one... was just a quick apparition away.

She turned back around to give an apologetic smile to Jorge's girl. "I'm sorry, I promise I'm only going to help Jorge," she sort of explained. "Don't worry about bailing him out. I'm sure the Daily Prophet will help out." And she was so sure, she was going there right now.

Tori turned on her heel again and untucked her microphone pen from her ear. She subtly tapped it/turned it off and then dropped it into her bag. On to her HQ!

See, Mariel could count on Emily to be a rational, professional woman, no matter what her personal feelings were in the matter, which only proved that she was speaking to the right person about any resolution that could be had here. She fixed her green eyes on the Department Head, nodding a bit as she explained the basics. Yes, of course he was pressing charges for a little push, wasn't he? Mariel desperately fought the urge to roll her eyes, but she kept up her impassive expression as she listened. "Post bail.. right," she mused aloud. Looked like she was going to have to make an extra trip, but she had already had that thought in mind. The brunette would see that he was released sooner rather than later.. and certainly not kept overnight. It was ridiculous enough as it was.

She opened her mouth to speak in the affirmative, quickly closing it as Cynthia spoke up. Cynthia.. Mariel had nearly forgotten about her in the.. chaos. She offered her an apologetic smile, but said nothing. Causing scenes was not really her thing and she just as soon forget this as soon as she got everything straightened out. She turned her eyes back on the MLE head and nodded as she gestured her way out. "Alright, yes.. I'll get to your office as soon as I can. I need to take care of a few things at my own office first." She was not about to assume anything would take care of itself now that her lunch was over and didn't know how long things were going to take. She needed to at least let Vic know she might be out for a bit and to reschedule a few things. Not to mention make a withdrawal.

Her eyes drifted to the redhead again as she insisted her presence was essential and she considered her for a moment. Miss Bunbury, was it? Mariel caught those words from Jorge before he was dragged off and it wasn't a name she'd likely forget. She vaguely wondered if she was related to her old Herbology professor and current Headmistress of that dreadful school. As inept as ever, she was sure, though she did always admire her taste in footwear. That was neither here nor there though, but she was aware of a Bunbury on staff at the Prophet. Mariel wondered why she was playing the attorney, though she figured the girl thought that was helping somehow.

She gave a glance to the back of Emily as she headed out then turned again to the redhead as she spoke. "I know you're trying to," she said, giving her a small but appreciative smile. She took a few steps after her as she started out the door. "Miss Bunbury, wait. I don't have a problem bailing him out.." Well, she didn't really know how much it was going to be or anything either, but she also didn't want him in any trouble at work. Could it wait till it all just blew over? "I have a stop or two to make, can you go and make sure they're following procedure?" Emily, she thought would go by the book, but she didn't trust Simon at all. And she wanted to make sure Jorge was being treated fairly before she got there. Not waiting for an answer, the brunette quickly headed away, she had too much to do to spare any time and she wanted to get to the Underground as soon as possible.

HogwartsStudent11 03-20-2014 04:35 AM

Drama, suspense, action...keep it for the TV shows. Cynthia enjoyed her telenovela, but when it made its way into real life? No thank you! And it didn't help that the drama kept increasing.

She still wasn't sure why this reporter was being arrested in the first place. She'd rather focus all her energy on Emily, who seemed to be the only person not also ingaged in the chaos. Mariel then gave her a "sorry-for-your-trouble-gotta-deal-with-this" kind of look, so to speak.

Emily seemed to be saying goodbye. That was slightly embarrassing to Cynthia, but she understood. She would do the same in her position. Whatever happened to a quietly awkward lunch with Ministry strangers?

"Goodbye. Nice to meet you, too." She half-offered her hand out, but quickly put it back down as Emily left.

What?

Put himself up for that? No WAY. "If I had, I'd have used a better picture. And maybe made it sound less..." What was the word? Desperate. Yeah. That. "... less... what it was."

And... he could make his excuses and go back to the plans of the day? Or did he still have to make small talk? Because he was done paying. That was awkward. Ahem. And that one there looked uncomfortable and Rustin hardly wished to make anyone feel such.

He glanced between the talking one, and the robot one, and gave a polite nod. "I had best find myself a table." He looked around and then back at the two women. "Ladies." Another nod and he headed over to the tables, finding one and putting the little stand that had his order number down so that the waitress would be able to see it and know where to bring the food.

Eyes still very much on the counter, Kiera began to trace random patterns with her finger over her sister's leather coat while she listened to their conversation. Her eyes briefly glanced towards him, however, but her gaze never met his and instead landed somewhere around his shoulder. "I didn't think the picture was so horrible...." she mumbled.

Shrugging her shoulder to get her sister's fingers off her jacket, Daphne met his eyes head on and tried not to look to amused by the whole situation. Wizarding London's Bachelor of the Month was a reluctant one, it was laughable really. "Desperate?" she replied, her lips still curled up in an amused smirk. "Those things always come across that way regardless of how they are written." Wasn't the title enough of an indication?

Merlin knew her sister probably would have owled the Prophet for a possible set up had it not been for certain circumstances. Not something she would personally recommend anyone do. Kiera was too high maintenance.

Both of them returned his nod, although Kiera's was much more subtle, and then it was up to Daphne to place their lunch order of a garden salad and iced tea for her and a pesto chicken sandwich and fizzy something for Kiera.

Kiera had watched his shoes leave and once she had the stand with their order number on it in place she gave Daphne a sweet but pleading smile. "We should go sit near him while he waits." Surely Daphne was just a little intrigued by Rustin Killick, no?

So with a gentle tug, she began to lead the way towards an empty table near his.

Well perhaps not horrible, but to him it had appeared like a mugshot, which was hardly appropriate for a dating profile.

... Merlin, not that he'd bloody well put it together himself or... well it wasn't much of a dating profile either, was it? He just had to grin and bear it or something, keep his head down until it was over. Surely there wouldn't be anyone trying to contact the Prophet to get a date with him.

Which was embarrassing in itself.

Desperate. Sigh. "I assure you, I'm not desperate. I'm perfectly content with my lot in life." With his daughter being the only little lady in his life. Rusty mussed his hair up and then settled himself at his chosen table...

... only to find he was being followed. Sort of. Nearish. Awkward. It was like saying goodbye to someone only to discover you were heading in the same direction.

It'd be rude not to say something, wouldn't it?

"You can both join me if you like." And if not he'd just put his head down, drink his coffee, and be on his way and hope nobody else around Muggle London recognised him.

Before going over to the Renaldi house, Orlando had been ordered to pick up some bakery goods. Originally Landon had been asked to do so, but ever since he got to know Orlando was visiting, he had made sure the younger brother did everything Landon was suppose to do.

Orlando obliged, because well he couldn't really say no.

Strolling into the bakery, the twenty five year old went to counter- hoping to find what his sister in law was suddenly and urgently craving in her soon-to-be-mommy condition.

Legend Chosen half expected it to be raining. He really did. How else would the fantastic London weather welcome his return. Although it wasn't. Bright and sunny, Legend almost thought that he had arrived in a different place all together. It hadn't taken him that long to track his friends down. After all he knew where all of them lived, it was just finding out if they were at home. For some reason Legend's brain simply notified him to find Lando first, which was a good thing. As soon as he got closer to the man-boy's house he noticed him leaving.

So of course Legend just followed, making a note to himself to remind Lando to ALWAYS look behind him.

Pushing the door to the bakery open, Legend watched as Orlando went up to the counter before tapping him on his shoulder. "So what's good here?"

Samia 04-08-2014 11:01 PM

Mud Chocolate Cake with Blackberry topping.

What the fudge?

Orlando was not sure how he was going to explain the guy behind the counter what he wanted without getting a weird face. That was when he felt the hand on his shoulder and the familiar voice.

The twenty five year old turned just to be sure and the shock was quiet visible on his face. "It's you."

Pause.

Stare.

How long had it been since they each other?

Legend stared right back, and even blinked a few times for good measure before smiling at his old friend. "Well I think it's me but uh-" The Gryffindor tugged on his arm- yeah still his. His shirt. Yeah his too. He even ran his hand through his hair was seemed to be oddly neat but not to worry it was his as well. That meant he had to be him right?

"No hug then?"

Yep. It was him.

Orlando grinned hearing him and immediately pulled the older guy in a hug.

Orlando patted Legend's back before pulling back. "What are you doing here?" So what if they hadn't met in a while, he was here now. 'More importantly, where were you!?"

Gladly accepting the hug Legend gave Lando two hard pats on the back. Heh. Manly and stuff. As the other man let go, Legend raised his brows as though he thought it were obvious. "I'm back. Duh." Really? Why else would he be here? As for the second question...well.

His eyes drifted up to the menu. "Do they have good coffee here?" Because you know, that was very important. Pushing his hands into his pocket and turning his eyes back to Lando, Legend's smile had somewhat faded. The last year was not a good one. It was tough, it was hard. The only thing that he was happy about was that he was still alive and that he hadn't loss any limbs.

And his hair was good.

"The U, S, of A." Hmm. "'Murica" he said roughly, in his best American accent possible. Which he had gotten pretty good at. "Last undercover mission and it was a big one. Couldn't tell anyone though, it was way to dangerous, and it could have meant spoiling my cover."

"I think so, yeah," Orlando replied, ordering up two coffees and placing the list he was suppose to be getting in front of the guy behind the counter. He could pick it after he was done catching up with his best friend. Picking up their coffees, the former Gryffindor headed toward an empty booth.

"Wow," was the only thing Orlando could say as he sat down. "I am glad you are okay, Legend," he said, his expression somber. After what had happened to his own brother last year, he wasn't sure how to feel about these undercover missions anymore. And by the look of Legend, it didn't seem like he was all that thrilled either.

"But you are back now .. " he continued, "hopefully for good?"

Taking a sip of his coffee, Orlando took a moment to disregard any and all awkward, meeting-ruining questions he had. "So you have to come back home with me, Mum would be thrilled to see you," he added, smiling.

Free coffee? He knew Lando was his best friend for a reason. Taking the coffee with a thankful nod, Legend just had time to put some milk and sugar in before Lando was already walking away to find them somewhere to sit. "Why wouldn't I be okay? Lando, i'm a Lion. We're always okay." Strong like a lion, quick, smart, all that.

Gryffindors ruled.

"Actually...." So...why not have fun with his best bud? "I have to leave again in about twenty minutes. Another undercover mission. Just followed you a bit to say hi before I'm back out again." Legend sighed, as if it were such a sad sad life.

Gryffindor, yes. Orlando smiled that smile of his - eyes closing, teeth showing. Legend did usually have that effect on him.

All that smile got wiped off though, when he spoke next. What. He was leaving already?

"But you can't!" he blurted out. "You just got back," he said, panicking slightly. "KT would kill you, if she knew about this!"

No. Nope. He can't leave. FLAIL. How was he suppose to stop him?

It was a fabulous day for shopping and Cassie was soaking up all the rays as she was on the street in between shops. She was school shopping and the thought of the words made her giggle. She felt like a first year again really. New things, new people, new adventures. It was all just way to marvelous. Looking around she had noticed a cute little bakery that she just had to try. So once she had her arm full of bags the blonde made her way into the cafe.

Standing at the front of the counter she tried to decide on what to have. Once it was her turn to order she decided on a nice sweet treat and a tea, but also grabbed a water. She had to stay hydrated for the rest of the afternoon of shopping. Some just didn't appreciate the work involved when it came to finding the most perfect outfit for that first day. She was trying to find the best colors and the best heels she could. Knowing some of the students would be taller than her the five foot shorty ha decided early on she would never be without her heels. Even her slippers were cute pink heels just in case she was called out at night.

Once she had her food Cassie moved to a small little table right at the front and opened her Quibbler. What better time to get in the know of the latest gossip than right now.

Needing a bit of fresh air in the middle of the work day, Mariel took a walk down the street, slowing her footsteps as she neared the cafe. The one and only time she had been in there was a terrible experience, one she'd rather forget, and she probably should have kept walking. But she remembered the promise of cinnamon rolls and red velvet cupcakes that she had been unable to purchase and thought maybe she could stop in quickly. She knew someone who might appreciate the cupcakes anyway.

Smiling lightly at that thought, the brunette pushed open the door and walked through, heading straight for the counter to order. She knew exactly what she wanted to order and could care less about who was already here. If someone witness to previous events was present, so be it. She wasn't one to run and hide at the first sign of conflict.

But, as she waited, she couldn't help but let her eyes drift to the people at the tables, lingering on one person in particular. A very familiar one at that. What was she doing here? Mariel couldn't help but notice what the woman was reading - the Quibbler. What a joke, though she couldn't say she was surprised even if she couldn't help the slight wrinkle of her nose in distaste. Sigh.. she supposed she should at least go over and say hello. Once she was waited on of course. Once every few years was about all she could take.
