That settled THAT then.

"Hello Adam, how are you?" he asked with a polite smile to his co-worker. He glanced at his watch. He still had...13 minutes of his lunch break. Perfect.

She as still rubbing her shin. That smart and it was most likely going to leave a mark. Not that she didn't already have a few here and there. She was a bit of a clutz and she had three small children. So toys were an issue in the house. "Nothing a little bruise pace won't clear up." She assured one of her oldest friends here. "I was actually coming to see you, but stopped to see how Javi was adjusting." Meeting the man at orientation she had gotten to know him a little bit.

"Who on earth would place a box just randomly on the floor like this." Was the shipping owls struggling since it was so large. "My need to send a message to the post office saying their owls aren't hitting the correct areas for drop off." Someone could have been very hurt if they were in a hurry.

Levitating the box might be the logical thing to do since it was in the way, but that would mean that it would be left as an afterthought, to be dealt with later. This box was too important for that and was not about to be ignored. In fact, these employees were barely paying attention to it other than bumping into the corner of it. Rude. At least the bumping from the woman didn't cause it any damage.

Suddenly a loud THUD is heard. The box is now somehow on the floor just in front of the lab bench that the division manager levitated it to. Did he miss his mark when he levitated it over? Or did the box find another way to be noticed?

Javi smiled at Victoria. It was nice of her to think to stop by and see that he was adjusting well - he was doing as well as could be expected. All his money was going in to savings right now, so he had been willing to take a few extra hours and was a bit more tired than he figured he usually would be - but he wouldn't bore her with all that. "I'm doing good, thanks. Enjoying it quite a bit," he added with a grin. That wasn't an exaggeration. He really DID like it - more than he thought he would.

Javi had JUST opened his mouth to comment on Victoria's owl theory - could an owl really have carried that big thing? - when suddenly, THUD. A loud noise drew his attention back to the box and he wrinkled his dark eyebrows. He had been CERTAIN that Adam had put it on the desk. Not precariously either - like FULL ON in the middle of the desk. Something was off about all this.

"Ok, that's it, I'm opening it," Javi announced with a sigh, placing his drink down on his desk and walking over to the box. He pulled out his wand - JUST in case this was a trap or something - but used his free hand to throw open the lid.

"Here," Adam hurried to his desk and back to Victoria, holding a small tin of bruise paste out to her. Working in this lab and having ten children meant there was always a good few of them around at any one time. And the fact that Vic had been coming to see him when she got hurt made him feel a little guilty.

His frown deepened at her owl comment, though, and he turned to see Javi about to speak, before they were distracted by the noise. If it had been in his nature to get embarrassed, Adam would have flushed crimson. Instead, he ran his fingers through his hair and emitted a slight chuckle. "I'm not a perfect wizard, but I'm pretty sure that that wasn't on the bench precariously." Which just made him question what on earth the box was... Or what it was holding.

With a nod of grim determination at Javi, Ada, stepped forward at the same time as his colleague, tightening his grip on and raising his wand.

Oh yes, well when they were dealing with different types of brooms and other sports things that could be jinxed or used as jokes she wasn't surprised when Adam said about having bruise paste. She reached out when he brought it. "Thank you." Lifting up her leg she pulled her pant up to her knee and placed the bruise paste where a red mark was very visible. Yes that would have left a mark if she didn't get this paste on it. So she was very grateful that he had some.

As she was placing the paste on the thud made her jump a bit, "Did that just come from the box?" She looked at them both curiously, but leave it to men to jump to open without thinking things through. "What if it is a jinxed broom or even a bludger?" They had things like that come in here.

She pulled her wand and got ready, who the hell knew what was in there waiting on them.

It seemed the box finally had everyone's attention. Maybe now these workers would realise that it was not just a nuisance, but important.

Unfortunately, the box would not open that easily, Ministry employee. Even if he may have tried to throw the lid open, the lid was not about to budge. Not just yet.

But if someone would look close enough, especially if the light hit it in just the right way, one might see some markings along the sides. Are they runes? Or at least something that might appear to be along those lines.

Javi blinked. Huh. That should have...that should have worked, yes? He wrinkled his eyebrows in frustrated, now more annoyed than anything, and tried once again to yank the lid off the box. Nothing. What the heck?

"It's like it's glued shut or something!" he grumbled, mostly to himself, before a strange marking on the side of the box caught his eye. That looked like...a rune. How peculiar. He turned to his colleagues and rubbed the back of his neck.

"Uh, anyone happen to be good with runes?" he asked them.

What the hell? Why didn't it open? Victoria moved a bit closer to it and looked at the box. She wasn't sure what was in it, but she was for sure not going to keep trying to get it open. She dealt with Mangers, players, and owners, weird boxes was not in her job description. "Have you ever had this problem before?" She was still putting money on something jinxed, but why wouldn't it open.

Looking at Javi she shook her head, "I have no clue. Haven't tried them since I was in school." That was ages ago so she knew she wouldn't know the first thing about the ruins. "If this is runes do you think it should be in mysterious?" Or anywhere far from her division.

"Should we get Mariel or I could send for my husband." Did Cossy know Ruins?

Hmmm. Victoria had a good point - did this really belong on another floor? OR was it supposed to be here for them? If it was...it was highly suspicious. He simply shrugged again. "I'm not sure. No label or anything. We won't know until we open it," he concluded. Which was going to be accomplished how...?

Javi had no idea how to do runes either. "If either of them know how to interpret them, I say go for it," he told her. Now he was curious and wanted to know what was IN the box. AND what the runes said. HE HAD QUESTIONS NOW. He needed answers!

When it appeared that the box wasn't opening, Adam lowered his wand, frown lines deepening on his forehead. He took a step closer to the box, shaking his head as Victoria and Javi spoke. "No, nothing that won't open before." He tapped the box with his wand and gave it another, rather lazy tug, doubting that the simple unlocking spell would work, before crouching down next to it.

His head was still shaking as he ran his finger along the engravings. "I wouldn't have even recognised these as Runes, I'm that useless." Clearly, useless was not a feeling Adam felt very often, and the frustration was evident. Still in his crouched position, he turned back to his colleagues. "Reckon anyone in the Department could help?" Or where they gonna have to get, like, a runes expert in?

Vic stood a little bit back watching the other two. She didn't have a good feeling about this box at all. Why was it here and why couldn't they get it open. Her lack of Runes made it even worse that she wanted away from it, but her curiosity wanted to know what it was. "I don't know." Right at that moment she wasn't sure if her husband did know Runes or not. He did work for the mystery department though and this seemed to be getting to a mystery.

She watched Adam stooping down and hoped he'd be careful. "I think we should get Mariel." She lifted her wand and sent her patronus telling their boss to come to the patents office immediately. "Maybe she'll be able to read it or figure out what is going on with it." She really didn't know if anyone else knew how to read them or not.

In truth, Javi wasn't even sure they were runes - he'd seen weird looking symbols and just assumed. He checked the box again just to be sure. Yup, definitely runes. Which led him to believe this box was NOT on the right floor. This probably had to do with Mysteries, he was sure of it.

"I agree, she'll know if we are expecting any sort of deliveries, right?" Javi nodded as he spoke. If anyone would know anything more about this, it would be Mariel. And if she didn't...well, as much as he hated to admit it, he was curious, and he might have to resort to wrestling with the damn thing to get the top off.

He needed ANSWERS now that he'd investigated. His mind was made up. Yup.

Though the employees surrounding the box peered closer and discussed what could possibly be going on with it, the box remained still. It was, of course, just a box after all, even if it wasn't an ordinary box. But it certainly was not a sentient being.

It did nothing while the silvery spell emerged from one person's wand. But the markings did appear to be somewhat more prominent, now that they were noticed. Could it be some sort of clue to open the seemingly unopenable box?

Mariel was not at all happy with the news that Lucas had just given her. Was not everyone aware of the no dating policy present in this workplace? Honestly. This was a place for professionalism not a dating service. Things like that got in the way of work and she witnessed it first hand years ago. But she would deal with that later. There was apparently something urgent going on in the Patents office.

Her crisp footsteps took her down the corridor and towards the back of the department where the office and lab were located, with Lucas presumably right behind her. And she could see right away that nearly the entire division plus Victoria were assembled around what seemed to her to be an ordinary box. "Morning, everyone!" she said brightly, though she looked curiously at the scene in front of her. "So what seems to be the issue here?"

Lucas let Mariel go a head of him. He was almost right behind her but his thoughts were scattered. He should not have let her know that him and Tallie were dating. "But that would be deceitful,'' another part of him said. With great difficulty, he pushed the thoughts away from his mind. He'd deal with that later because there was a pressing issue here at present.

The man frowned at the box with the markings. It looked quite ordinary, aside from said markings. Oh yes. His co-workers. He had to greet them. "Hey, everyone. I'm here to help in anyway that I can.'' Plus he was curious, alright?

Ah, finally. Someone in a position of power. Javier smiled at Mariel as she approached and gave a nod to the guy following her - he couldn't remember his name and honestly that was not the important thing right now. "Well, this box appeared here and we're not sure what to do with it. There's no labels, nothing indicating who it might be for...and it won't open," he added, wrinkling his dark eyebrows.

Magically and non-magically. But he was sure that went without saying.

"Plus, there seem to be runes inscribed on the side of it. We figured we'd ask you if you knew anything about this or had any ideas of what to do...before we pawn this off on Mysteries or something," he added as an afterthought. That was what HE thought would probably be best, but he wasn't Department Head for a reason. Plus, he was super curious now and wanted to SEE what was IN it.

He'd heard they had a BRAIN room in Mysteries. WHAT IF IT WAS BRAINS?!

Mariel tried to put the Lucas situation out of her mind for now. It was something that would definitely need addressed later, but for now, she would give her patents people her attention since they had urgently called her down.

A box, yes, she could clearly see that, and Mariel looked at it a moment as she listened to Javier begin to explain the situation. Okay, that did sound strange but she still wasn't so sure of the urgency here. Nearly the entire division, plus the manager of another division, crowded around a box, and they felt the need to send for her via patronus. "I'm still not sure I understand what the problem is. Did you not get invoice for a shipment today?" Sure, she was in charge of the entire department, but patent shipments were usually confined to this area and she trusted them to do her job. Maybe they were leaving something out?

"I'm sure there must be some way for it to open." It wouldn't be a box if it didn't, but she let her eyes fall over it for a moment. Runes? She didn't see any immediately visible on it so she knelt down to get a better look. Oh.. if she moved her head just right, she could see some markings in the light. "I don't think they're actually runes," she said, tracing her finger over one. Not that she was so skilled in Ancient Runes, but she had taken the course in school and these looked... like a more primitive version of them somehow. But as she traced over the marking with her finger, it began to lightly glow. "Oh! That's interesting." Had that happened for anyone else?

Javi may have gotten looks if he would have said those words allowed, but he didn't and Victoria was watching as Mariel and Lucas had come in to help. Though she wasn't sure exactly what help they would be. This box seemed to not want to budge and it stung if you ran into it.

She looked at the box as Javi explained and mentioned the wording. Was it runic or did it just seem that way? She really wasn't sure. "We figured we'd start with sending for you Mariel, but we had said maybe mysterious if we can't figure out how to open it and see what was in it. " She thought for a few more minutes before she took a quiet step back her wand in her hand.

"We haven't gotten any weird threats in the owl lately have we?" She knew it had been many many years since quidditch had been threatened and Hogwarts still hadn't brought it back, but could this be another type of mad fan or something. You really couldn't be too careful. That thing could have dung in it and they'd be smelling for weeks if it sprang open.

The box was his primary focus presently not the situation that had just cropped up in Mariel's office. It interested him to see the markings glow when Mariel touched them. Were they really Runes? It had been quite a long time since he had even laid eyes on anything runic.

"I haven't heard about any such threats,'' he told Victoria and looking to Mariel and Javi for confirmation. "Does anyone in the department have an aptitude for runes, if these even are runes? Maybe they can help us get the box open.'' The big questions was what was even in the box?

Adam was pretty annoyed at himself right now, and it took a lot of effort to stay crouched and looking at the runes, rather than to stand up and give the box a swift kick. Curiosity probably helped, too, and annoyance that he hadn't taken Runes at school increased. He stood up eventually when Mariel entered, fixing his suit jacket and offering her a wide, if somewhat bemused, smile.

"Although," Adam offered, turning his gaze back to the box and walking around it. "I'd rather not send it off to Mysteries." He shrugged. "Sheer curiosity, even if it is a complete mystery. No invoice, no deliveries expected today..." The Patents Division head trailed off as he strode over to his desk, double checking the paperwork that lay upon it with a furred brow. He looked up again as Mariel touched the Runes and they began to glow. "It did that for me, too."

With a ruffle of his hair - a clear indicated that he was stressed - Adam moved back across the room to rejoin the group surrounding the box, the frustration evident on his face.

He wanted to kick the box.

Like, really wanted to.

"I'm pretty sure those... Runes, markings, whatever they are, are key to opening it. I just wish I knew what they said."

Mysteries? Threats? Mariel wasn't sure exactly what happened before she had gotten there, but she wasn't so sure why Victoria was so quick to jump to thinking this box was something so nefarious. She supposed it wasn't terrible to at least be vigilant about what was going on around you, but there was a such thing as jumping to conclusions.

"Am I missing something?" She asked, looking up at the group assembled there. "Why are you all so worried that it's something dangerous?" She wasn't sure if something else had happened before she had gotten there for them to believe that, but it looked relatively harmless to her. Still, she did know cursed objects existed.

"It just seems to me that it's a puzzle no one has figured out yet." How to open it, she meant. Mariel smiled at Adam as he mentioned the markings might be the key. She was beginning to think that too when one lit up under her fingers. But she attributed it to a Ravenclaw way of thinking and she supposed they were like-minded in that way.

"I'm not so sure they are runes," she repeated for Lucas's benefit. "At least not the standard ones." She remembered enough about that class to know that, but it didn't seem like anyone present had an affinity to them. "Maybe there's a pattern to them. Or..." She peered at the box a moment longer as if she was trying to work something out about them."Has anyone else tried touching them?" Other than Adam who had just said that he had, though maybe he had done it in a certain way?

Javier had to stop himself from rolling his eyes. Of COURSE it wasn't just some regular shipment, otherwise they wouldn't be making a big deal over it! Give us some credit, Mariel. Threats? Who would be threatening the Games and Sprots Department, of all places? If this was the type of workplace that was under threat constantly, he might need to rethink his life choices.

"Those are definitely runes," he chimed in. "I didn't do all that well in Runes at school but I remember enough to know that's what those are," he said with a small smirk.

He watched as the department head tried to approach the box, eyes widening when he saw the runes light up. He hadn't tried THAT earlier...

"I'll do it," he said flatly, stepping forward and running his fingers over the runes. They lit up as well for him as well, but would it really be any different than when Mariel had just done it...?

Honestly, the prospect of testing out these 'Flying Trainers' had the father of ten pretty excited, if a little dubious. No one could say Adam Stemp was a terrible day - but a child at heart definitely wasn't out of the question. Slinging his suit jacket over the back of his desk chair and riffling through the letters in his inbox, he couldn't quite focus on anything but the box that sat on top of one of the laboratory benches behind him.

Dropping the stack of letters back onto his desk, he rolled his sleeves up and pulled his wand out, giving it a slight polish as he made his way over to the lab. With a few taps of his wand, the box was open and the first of a few pairs of trainers sat on the desk next to it.

He had checked in at the security office and made his way to level seven. He had been there often, but not into this division, though he hoped they could help. He had heard that this was where they did some testing and things for equipment and it just so happened he had a broom bag over his shoulder. It had been weird and after talking to his coach he made his way to the ministry. Maybe he should have mentioned it to Esme,
but he didn't want to concern her or get her upset that something had been wrong with his broom.

Once on level seven, the smell of the coffee cart was too powerful so he had stopped a moment and grabbed a cup but soon found himself in the patents office looking around. "Hello? Anyone around?" Figuring they were at their desks, hopefully, he would stay towards the door to make his arrival known. He didn't think it was very courteous to just walk in on someone's work space unannounced.
