He wasn't sure why she hadn't been able to take him with her, because he wasn't usually a problem. He was, however, certain that she was going to get his congratulations present for receiving his Hogwarts letter. HOPEFULLY it was going to be his hard back copy of the Sherlock Holmes series - and if it wasn't, then he would have to ask his grandparents to talk his parents into getting him it. He'd wanted it for Christmas, but had been sO caught up with Corbin and Saffron being home that he hadn't added it to his list for Santy Claus. (Who wasn't real, but his siblings still believed in the broom-riding old man.
Pushing the glasses up his nose, Ringo placed his notebook under his arm like he saw his father do and broke into a run to find said parent. ... NOT WORKING. "Daaaaad." Helping himself to a chair from nearby, Ringo hauled it towards his father and sat on it. "Daaaaaaad. You shouldn't have your shoes on a table." That was the issue here. Daaaaad.
No. In this dream there were no children to call him dad. They were alone. In adult-land. Completely kid free - Daaaaad. "Go back to sleep, Mac." Adam mumbled softly under his breath, still asleep. If only for a moment. He jolted awake pretty quickly, tie askew and eyes bleary. "Whaaaa-?"
Swinging his legs down to the ground quickly, he took a look at his second eldest son, rubbed his eyes, and then took another look. "Ringo. Yes, right. No shoes on the table. No feet on the table, full stop." He took a moment to fix his tie, and then went to drink from his coffee mug, only to find it disappointingly empty. With a sigh, he put the mug back onto his desk, stifled a yawn, and then turned to Ringo. "My Starr. What are you doing here?"

Ringo smiled, used to half-asleep greetings from his parents to the wrong child. It was unusual to go a day without being called the name of a different Stemp child, not that he was put out by it. There were a lot of them to remember by name, face, voice or aura. Lots of twins, also. And Maverick and McCartney looked and sounded the same. Too many twins. Too many children. Ringo was actually looking forward to going to school and not having a whole brood to deal with on the daily. New faces would probably be his favourite part of Hogwarts. Besides those he already knew. And he would be trying his hardest to avoid Saffron, Corbin and the rest. Too many.
With his new seat giving him a professional stance, Ringo put his notepad onto the desk of his father and helped himself to a quill. "Mum had things to do in the city." Dad really was clueless. Mum said that a lot. "What do we have to do today?"

Mum said that a lot. "What do we have to do today?" Peering over the boys notebook slightly, Adam rubbed his eyes a little, once again, blinking away the last remnants of sleepiness. He felt automatically guilty for calling Ringo by his brothers name, but knew that his sleep-addled brain couldn't help it. THERE WERE SO MANY. "What're you writing?" No doubt something clever and way beyond the average eleven year old brain capacity. Heck, way beyond his brain capacity. Ringo was the only child he'd ever joked about being the product of unfaithfulness on Lorelai's part - obviously a joke, the pair were still as smitten as they had been at sixteen - because the kid was just a damn genius. Certainly he'd been cleverer than Adam would ever be before he was talking.
"Right." City. Thinks. Equaled shopping, obviously. Probably buying Ringo a congratulatory present, no doubt trying to find whatever shop had sold him his AMAZING 'hideous' shoes and destroy the line forever. And maybe choosing him a new pair, which he definitely wouldn't object to. "ERM. First, get coffee."
He stood up with a sigh, looking at his inbox. "Then, look through these and see if any of them have any merit. Dangerous inventions need to be destroyed and a letter written back explaining why."

A list. First, he wrote 'coffee'. Then annotated that with his opinions on coffee which was a heart and a smiley face. He LIKED coffee. Well, he thought that he liked coffee. He liked the idea of it. The taste still made him shudder and he could never concentrate on what he wanted to. When he needed to read, his mind was wanting to go running and play games and dig holes and travel the world... He just wanted to read.
And then he drew a big exclamation point for the whole dangerous inventions stuff. "Do I get to help?" As much as he loved his father and thought he was ace at his job; Ringo was certain that he didn't think things through like he should have. "I'm going to help."

Grinning at Ringo's response, and then at the list he began, Adam reached out and ruffled the eleven year old's hair a bit. "Yes, coffee first. There's a coffee cart just along the corridor. Might bump into a few people out there, and no doubt they'll want to ask you questions." So beware. Although if it was someone like Vic, he was pretty sure he himself would be the one left out of the conversation. Adam wasn't sure on the whole 'giving Ringo coffee' front, but he supposed there was always decaf if he insisted on wanting it.
"I thought you might say that. Hey, you might find something really interesting we can develop. An invention with potential." And, heck, Ringo my spot something Adam missed. The kids brain was brilliant.

The kids brain was brilliant. He got to go on the coffee run too?! Ringo wasn't so sure about that. That meant having to see more of this place than he already had, and exploring was really the job for his siblings more than anything. "You get coffee, Adam." First names were professional. "I'll work on our plan of action." The role of a working person really suited the kid and it was definitely one thing he knew. Maybe one day he'd be sat here on his own accord with his own stack of paperwork and be thinking about putting his feet on his desk. Which you weren't supposed to do, apparently. "Like intergalactic brooms? Edible broom handles? Bludgers that don't hurt? Beaters bats that aren't given to Saffrons?" All plausible options. Honestly, the last one was his favourite. She was back from school soon and he was sure she would dust off her bat immediately and give him a whack with it for good measure.

Raising an eyebrow and letting out a little chuckle, Adam ruffled his sons hair as he went past. "Alright, you stay here then. But it's still Dad, okay, Ringo?" As mature and intelligent and just generally grown up as Ringo was, Adam was not having his Starr surpass his years like that. There was something about the first name that made him feel weird, like the boy was growing up too quickly. And Adam realised that he was going to miss him a lot come September.
Returning quickly with two mugs of coffee in his hand - decaf for Ringo, of course - Adam set them down and returned to his seat, nodding at the boys ideas. "I can spot a few complexities with each of them, but you've got the right idea." The beaters bats that weren't given to Saffrons... He'd tried taking them off her, but she somehow got them back.
Maybe this summer would be different. "Right, so what's our plan of action?"

Maybe this summer would be different. "Right, so what's our plan of action?" "Sure, Adam." Ringo smiled, waved his father off when he left for coffee and set about working on his list of things to do whilst he waited. One little added section was about Hogwarts and the questions he wanted to ask one of his parents away from the attention of his siblings. It was normal that Ringo seemed to have his head screwed on right and generally just already know everything he needed to, but the change in education that was due to come was unsettling for the 11 year old. He was worried that he wouldn't fit in, or he wouldn't be able to take well to the change.
It wasn't like he had been to boarding school before.
Or away from his parents for more than a few nights at a time.
Ringo looked up from his notebook at his father and smiled alongside an accepting nod of thanks for the coffee he had gotten. "Perfect." And knowing exactly what his father had done, Ringo waited for a moment where Adam was preoccupied by sitting down to switch the coffees so that he got the caffeine and his father didn't. Having an 11 year old bouncing off the walls was normal, but having Adam bounce around like Mave and Mac..? No thank you. "I was thinking that we could both take one and write notes and then swap. And THEN discuss. Because that's the foundation of good teamwork, right, Adam?" This Adam thing was kind of fun. Adam.

Maybe because he was lazy. Maybe because he loved his child and was sure he was going to miss him come September. Maybe a little of both. Ad took a sip of 'his' coffee, completely oblivious to the fact that Ringo had swapped their cups (which was probably a good idea: his father was often as much of a child as, well... his children, if he had too much energy).
"That is indeed the foundation of good teamwork, Starr." With a chuckle, he took two profiles from the top of his in tray and handed the first to his son, before pulling his pad towards himself and taking a self-inking quill from his top draw. Because he was clumsy, okay? And he didn't really want to knock over the inkwell in front of his son. That would be embarrassing. He didn't want Ringo to think his dad was a total buffoon.
Even though he probably did already.
"You looking forward to September?"

He was pretty fluent in the foundations of teamwork, because he studied the sports teams of his siblings and the coalition in the marriage of his parents. He'd also been present for a lot of Mum's meetings with Aunt Vic all the time.
Ringo opened up the file he was given, and looked over the first few lines in it before stopping when his father spoke. Ah. "Not really."

Apart from the one he'd gotten a few years back that had ended up selling really well, the majority of these type of files were just dangerous. Adam made a note about destroying them, reasoning: explosions of this level not appropriate. Especially considering the proposed advertising was at children. Bloody hell.
He looked up as Ringo spoke, concern lining his forehead. Had Lorelai and he not gone on about how amazing their time had been there? Had they not spoken so highly of how well he would do at the school? Because he would be amazing. His frown only intensified, as he put his quill down and leaned forward on the desk towards his Starr.
"Why not?"

"Why not?" This was serious. His Dad had put down his quill and Ringo followed suit with his pen and his coffee. "What if it isn't for me? What if I don't do as good as I did at St. Woboldo's?" He shrugged it off as just nerves, reached for his coffee once more and took a big gulp despite the heat of the drink. "Saffron and Corbin aren't going to care if I'm upset. And they won't make sure I have friends." Ringo didn't need friends, that wasn't the point... He actually just wanted to go to school with the siblings that he liked. Like Lilah. Lilah was his favourite because she listened and cared and held his hand if he got wound up about something the twins had said or done. "Can't I just stay at home with you? I won't make a noise. You won't know I'm there..." Anything but Scotland.

He looked up when his son continued to speak, taking a small sip of his own drink. "First of all, you'll do amazing wherever you go. School, work, camp - there isn't one place in this world that you can't conquer, okay?" Which was completely true, and Adam would have believed it even if his son was just of average intelligence. He was diligent, and caring, and just too damn lovely for words.
"So what about Saffron and Corbin? You don't need them, and you know that you don't. You'll have no trouble making your own friends, you'll probably just have to avoid your sister for her wanting you to do her homework." He offered a tentative smile at Ringo, fully aware that Saffron had sent him work home this year.
He sighed a little bit, and placed his large hand, warm from holding his mug, over his sons little one. "It's not about you not making noise, and us not knowing you're there. We love you, Ringo, and we love having you around. But you're so clever, and Hogwarts will help you reach your full potential. It really is the best. For reasons other than the lessons, too. Besides, think about Lilah!" Ah, his daughter who it seemed was adored by all but their eldest. "She'll be there in a year, and you and I both know she'll want her big brother to help her in every way possible."
Poor Ringo. Adam really did hate to see his Starr so dejected.

Besides, think about Lilah!" Ah, his daughter who it seemed was adored by all but their eldest. "She'll be there in a year, and you and I both know she'll want her big brother to help her in every way possible."
Poor Ringo. Adam really did hate to see his Starr so dejected. Everything that his father said made Ringo think even worse of the school he was being sent to and he couldn't help but look at his knees with a defined sigh. "You don't need to remind me that you love me, Dad." In fact, that was one of the only things he was sure of every day. His parents had a lot of love to give, even with ten children. And Ringo felt special all of the time. Not just for being a Stemp. Because his parents were his parents and they held him nice and snug in their hearts all of the time. "I don't think I'm ready." And that was all he wanted to talk about the subject. Because he was upset about Lilah being brought into conversation and she was his closest friend right now. Right always.
He moved the conversation, and his attention, back to the files on Adam's desk and flicked through one. "This sounds like an explosion waiting to happen, Dad. Maybe we should let Corbin and Saffron deal with it."

He moved the conversation, and his attention, back to the files on Adam's desk and flicked through one. "This sounds like an explosion waiting to happen, Dad. Maybe we should let Corbin and Saffron deal with it." Well, at least Ringo knew how much they cared, Adam thought with a sigh, it's heaviness disguised from his son. He often wondered if their children did realise that Lorelai and himself had so much love to give to each of them, or if they thought it got lost amongst the numbers. They tried to show it as much and as often as possible, but he guessed it was always going to be a parents worry.
Adam didn't speak when Ringo mentioned that he didn't think he was ready, instead letting his mind gather thoughts and formulate before he opened his mouth. He wanted to explain that his Starr was ready, that he'd never know himself until he tried, that they'd take it a term at a time and see how he felt at Christmas. But before he had a chance to speak again, Ringo had delved into a file, and Adam put the subject of Hogwarts to rest.
At least, until he spoke to his wife later.
Leaning over his sons shoulder, Ad emitted a chuckle. "As funny as that would be for you, Ringo, I don't think that is such a good idea." If only because Corb and Saff would probably find a way to get it to damage anything and everything that wasn't theirs. "You reckon there's any ways we can make it safer?"

She might have been trying and the big word was trying to carry a bag into the patents office, but the problem was the bag was kind of sort of dragging her back out the door. Nothing she seemed to do to stop the stupid thing was working. Not one spell, she hoped Adam or someone from the office could figure it out. "HEEEEELP"
Planting her feet she got her barrings again and forced the bag on her shoulder. Why didn't she have Cossy come with her this morning before he went to the mysteries department. He might have been stronger then her. Though she was making good progress into the office now, maybe they calmed....

NOPE "SOMEONE HELP!! " Gabriela had just come back from washing her hands, when she heard a woman's voice. She still hadn't completely met everyone here, on account that she was shy and very reserved. Taking a quick sip of her coffee, the tall girl quickly noticed the source of the voice and rushed over to her. She took some of the things the woman was carrying and set them into her own arms. Why was she carrying this many things on her own? Gabi was about to ask. "You should not carry many things at once. You can become injured," She told the woman and proceeded to set some things down on her own desk. "Why were you carrying lots of things at once?"

"Oh be careful with that." Taking the bag was one thing, but what was inside of it might not be all that easy to handle. "I thought little Gobstones wouldn't be so hard to bring in one bag. I don't know what is going on with them." She needed to catch her breath first. In all the years she had worked in this level Merlin knew she saw lots of things, but this... this took the cake. "You know I'd believe my son had a hand in this if I didn't know how much he has grown up. Back in his teen years he would have loved to be the leader of this.." She pointed to the bag that was now trying to move again. "My daughters were playing with their new gobstones when two hit each other and then they all seemed to become alive. They've been moving and fighting each other since. I remembered Adam getting a joke one in a few years back and I was hoping him or someone else could maybe see if that's what's wrong with these." Had someone tried to curse her family or was this just some odd accident. "Have you ever seen anything like them before?"

She was wearing special gloves that prevented her any harm from handling the objects that came into the room. She listened as Mrs. Culloden explained what was happening to the gobstones. Putting her goggles, Gabi carefully examined one and squinted her eyes. "It seems like people are getting more and more creative with these little things nowadays. Do they not normally just squirt out a foul liquid at the loser?" To her extensive knowledge, that was the basics of these things. Gabriela wasn't really into sports, but enjoyed the charm logic behind them.
Looking back at the woman, she smiled. "Can you tell me where you had purchased these?

Looking back at the woman, she smiled. "Can you tell me where you had purchased these? Victoria watched Gabriela do her thing. The gloves were interesting and she wondered if she ware them all the time. "Yes it does. Adam a few years back had one that he figured out and then was able to market." She had bought a few of the jokes one, but this was way beyond crazy. She thought Gabriela was a bit brave holding that up so close, but she did have the protective gear she needed.
Her eyes shifted to the woman when she spoke of the game like she wasn't sure. "Yes it does that. Once in awhile it will do it if the stone is knocked out. These joke ones though are usually meant to be funny. I'm not sure if the manufacture mixed the kits and that's how I accidentally got some joke stones, but these seem over the top like it was done as a prank not really from a company." Shaking her head she eyed the bag where the others were moving around. "Just in Diagon Alley, where I always buy quidditch and gobstone things. " She had been buying things from these stores for years so she trusted them for the most part, but now.. maybe not.

| On the floor in the centre of the office sits a box, large enough that one wouldn't walk by without noticing it, but not too large that someone couldn't get past it. At first glance, it may not appear too unusual. The Ludicrous Patents division gets shipments of new inventions to be tested all the time. But did anyone actually see someone drop it off? It seems that its appearance is just as mysterious as to what could be inside of it. There are no external markings.
In fact, it looks like a plain wooden box except for the unusual markings that can only be seen just when the light hits it the right way. However, there is no discernible way to open it as there is no obvious opening and Alohomora doesn't seem to work. Someone probably should do something with it though as it is somewhat in the way and is rather heavy to lift.

A new ministry year always meant the usual visit to Adam's office to see how everyone enjoyed their holiday. She always loved to hear the stories of his children and she liked to give a yearly donation to Stemp House. So of course she had grabbed her coffee first and headed toward the patents offices. Looking at the time she figured everyone would be busy working and she wouldn't miss him on a break or anything.
Opening the door she looked around first not noticing anyone, so she figured she'd just head to his cubical. Looking through her purse to grab the donation money she clearly wasn't paying attention and didn't think a box would be in her way, but of course it was and she nailed the corner of it. "OUCH!!"
Bloody Hell! She dropped her coffee to the ground as she rubbed her shin. "Who puts a box right in the middle of the floor?"

Javi was just returning from his coffee break with his new Ministry mug in hand when he heard some yelling. And it was coming from HIS office. Or, the place where all the desks were in his department. Not really an OFFICE per say. But he had a desk.
Wrinkling his eyebrows and wondering if maybe someone was messing with some untested material, he walked in to see Victoria, the woman he'd met at the orientation, rubbing her leg. And there was...a box just sitting there in the middle of the floor. Putting two and two together, Javi took a sip of coffee as he approached and chuckled.
"Well that's an awful inconvenient place for that, isn't it?" he wondered aloud.

That was going to leave a bruise she just knew it and wondered if she should put some bruise paste on it right now while she was thinking about it. She probably had some in her purse. A mother always was prepared and all. Pulling her wand she cleaned the coffee that had spilled just as she heard someone's voice. "Yes it is. Who the hell would have thought it a good place?" Where was Adam? He'd never let this slide. "It's really going to need moved before someone really gets hurt." Getting her barrings back she turned to Javi, "So how are you adjusting? The desk job isn't too bad is it?" She didn't think this office ever really just sat. The experiments that Adam had told her about over the years, she was sure they had interesting things going on.

| *joins in* Sarah thinks I'm cute | Shan's safe space. Late was not something Adam usually was, but when a Stemp House emergency called, he really didn't have the heart to say no. Besides, fixing up some shelves in one of the kids bedrooms had only taken a few minutes, and he'd sent along an owl to let Mariel know. Coffee in one hand an briefcase in the other, Adam shouldered open the door to the lab and was met by a rather interesting sight.
"Victoria?" Stopping only to put his briefcase and coffee down on the nearest desk, Adam hurried towards the two individuals and the rather strange looking box. "Are you okay?" With a nod to Javi and some curious looks between the two, he pulled out his wand and directed it towards the box, levitating it onto one of the lab benches.
"Where did that come from?"
