Her belly bigger, her exhaustion more frequent, and her trips to the little girls room constant. Her legs even were starting to swell some by the end of the day, but she tried to keep the blood flowing by going on small walks. This was what she was head out to do.

As she went into the corridor she noticed someone. Giving him a smile she slowed near the lift trying to decide if she wanted to go to another level or just stay on level seven. "Hello Simon, how are you today?" She looked to the MLE employee. "What brings you to our quiet level?" She hoped there wasn't anything going on that could be dangerous.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary as he made his first move, though he smiled and paused in his step as he noticed a familiar face coming his way. "Hello Victoria," he greeted back. "I am doing well. How about yourself?" The pregnancy of the woman had certainly progressed since their last random encounter and he hoped all was well.

"Just the usual rounds," he answered, taking note of her use of quiet in describing the department. It wasn't in a sarcastic or similar tone so the security man was taking it as nothing of note had been happening. Did that mean none of the YATI had opted to try out their wings down here like they had other levels? "Gotta make sure it stays quiet, eh?"

Placing a hand on her belly she chuckled a bit, "Oh I'm doing well, getting bigger and bigger daily, but good." She chuckled more as she looked down. Helena was growing so much now. She couldn't believe she was only two months away from seeing her sweet little baby. The pregnancy had went so easy compared to the twins, she didn't mind being pregnant if they would have been all this nice.

Turning her brown eyes back on the man she gave a little nod, "It's nice to know you are watching over us." Not that Victoria ever felt she was in danger at the ministry, but she knew things could happen, life could be unpredictable. "Well I'm glad it's quiet, we have too much going on in the department to have too much activity interrupting." With the suspension paperwork, quidditch camp, and photoshoot she was trying to line up she had too much to think about, so she was very appreciative that he was keeping them safe.

A bit of laughter was the first sign of everything going well, even before her verbal answer that confirmed it. "That's good," Simon remarked with a smile. "Certainly good to hear." Mostly that she was doing well, and he assumed the child as well. Not necessarily the mention of her growing size though he supposed that was all natural in the realm of pregnancy things.

Bennett, you should be used to this with Ev.

"Glad to be appreciated." Not that he did his job for the acknowledgement. It did make it all the more worthwhile in the end though to know when people noticed it and were pleased. He understood the mention of them being busy down here on Level 7, what with the usual quidditch and gobstone seasons coming and going. Not to mention the camp that he knew security had been called in to work when it happened over the summer. "Then I will do my best to stay out from underfoot."

Something he couldn't say about other MLErs recently.

Oh and there were the kicks. She shook her head and pushed at her belly a bit, "It never fails, she always enjoys when other people, other then me are talking." Her daddy being the worst. She would kick so hard when she heard her daddy's voice. Victoria would bet money on her being a daddy's girl very quickly. Which the thought of her husband and her baby made her feel all warm.

Or was that more that she had to go to the bathroom....

No she was okay, it was warm and fuzzy because of the thoughts.

"Well you do work in a thankless job, which is sad. More people should be showing you appreciation. We have so much that could go wrong here and it doesn't, someone or a group of someones is keeping it that way." She gave him a very nice smile. She hoped she wasn't seeming to get on her soap box, but she did have to admit that recognition was due. "Will you be working the camp that's coming up?" She knew they got some security but exactly which ones, she wasn't sure. "I think it will be a fun thing to watch. All the kids will be cute." Not that he probably would think they were cute, some men didn't find kids cute at all, but she thought they would be. She was pretty excited to watch her son play as well. He was so good on his broom.

It was Simon's turn to chuckle as he saw Victoria react to something he couldn't necessarily notice and then explained it as her child's actions within her. A girl child as was revealed to him. "Well she must be really friendly," he replied amused at the situation. "Or jealous that there are people talking to her mother and not to her," he added in a touch of jest. Not that anyone would be able to fully decipher the real meaning.

Now the compliment edged on outright flattery, the man absently rubbing the back of his neck casually as he decided on an answer. Instead he was grateful for the switch in topic, "I believe I am," he mused, knowing he had volunteered at least. "And it should be fun," he agreed. Just because he didn't go into the profession that Jacob had, didn't mean he didn't have a soft spot for the sport he used to play and captain. And it wasn't like he couldn't watch the amusing scenes as much as he was watchful for any troublesome matters.

"Your son plays, or played...right?" Simon thought it had come up in one conversation or another in passing.

She chuckled, "She's one of my children she'll be friendly alright. It seems even though I was a shy child none of my children have taken after me in that sense." Bart was certainly not quiet and neither was Alana, but she guessed that Elisa was the shyer of the three. Only time would tell though. That was a thought too, "She does enjoy people talking to her. Especially her father." The movements the baby would do hearing his voice it always made her smile.

"Well that's good, I'm glad to know we have some great security." She really didn't know if they fully needed a ton of security, but it felt good knowing they had them if something did come up. "I hope the rain stays away. I always fear children getting sick when out in the rain and I 'd hate it be because of us." Maternal instincts kicking in and all.

Wow he had a good memory and she nodded, "Yes he plays for the U17 league as a beater. He'll be at the camp. He's been doing camps since he could get on a broom. His father always pushed the playing." Not that she minded it and he loved it, but she wasn't really the pushy type.

Someone he didn't doubt that bit of truth that might sound like parental favoritism to most people. The kicking child's mother was certainly quite friendly and open to others which had been one of the many reasons Simon had felt her the best candiate for the recent election. So there was the chance that Victoria's traits to be passed onto her daughter. Along with some of her husband's whom Simon had only met briefly during one of the election events.

"I'll certainly try to live up to expectations," Simon mused with a small chuckle. That and hope whoever would join him wasn't going to overdue their job and make scenes. It would sure be easier to only be concerned for the outside issues that may errupt then deal with the inner drama that wasn't going to do anything for the department's reputation.

Oh goody, he hadn't been mistaken about that. "Ah...my prefered position. When I wasn't filling in for something else." Like when a team member was ill or in detention, a captain did have to make sure his team was well covered. "Nothing wrong with that." Simon himself might not have started out interested in the sport, but he couldn't deny those three years had been brightened by the game.

Even if his ghost hadn't seemed to like flying.

She gave him a very sweet smile, "Simon I think you don't have to worry about that. You've been in the ministry for how long? I think you've proven yourself time and time again." At least anytime he had done work for their department he had done a great job. She had all the faith in the world for him to do his job well.

"You played?" She smiled, many people played really, but she always enjoyed learning that. Sports were her passion and career for so long, she couldn't think of doing anything else. "No there isn't and he loves the game now. There is nothing that boy has wanted more then to play professional. Though it's for the Australian team, I'm just trying to be hopeful living here for so long might have changed his mind. That and he has a girlfriend now, so that could do the trick." Nothing like a girl to change a boys mind.

Her face turned into a pained expression as her hand went to the side of her belly. Breathing out some air she shook her head. "I think she's trying to really prove she will be my last." Breathing through that last kick she turned her brown eyes back on the man in front of her. "So Simon how is the department? Liking the new Department Head?" She hadn't met the man yet, but had heard some rumors.

"Almost 10 years."

At least that had been what had been determined in his little chat with Jasper. Simon wasn't exactly sure with himself if it felt like it had really been that long. Granted the training had seemed to drag with the various issues and changes in the department at each turn, but almost a decade? That simply reminded him he was also nearing his next milestone birthday which was another moment of disbelief.

As for his so-called living up to expectations... "It was an attempt to be modest." You know, not be like the MLE types that liked to think they were so much better than others. Or former Gryffindor types for that matter. The security man was far more down to earth.

Simon nodded as she asked about him playing, smiling at the memory. "My last few years at Hogwarts for the house team, captained the last two." And then gave it up for the most part, something that had sent certain classmates into a tizzy. The quidditch manager's son, reminded him briefly of Jacob and his one-track mind connection to the sport. "Maybe..." he mused in agreement, girlfriends did have that effect on you.

He watched modestly concerned as her expression went bad but thankfully she seemed to recover. The former Gryffindor didn't need to ask who the she the woman was refering to. "Or she snuck a bat in there.." he mused with slightly raised eyebrow. Vic would appreciate a quidditch joke...right? The topic was switched to his department and it was Simon's turn to take a deep breathe. "Its been...interesting," he answered at first, " and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about him."

Wow Ten years, though she had been with the ministry for seven, so not too far behind him, but ten years was impressive. “That shows such dedication. Such a high turnover rate here it seems. I’m always finding myself with new faces and new people to train.” She knew other areas were experience the same issue. She had just got Benji and he was already gone. It was sad really, she hated that they didn’t keep people very long. Something needed to change to make people want to stay, but then there were people like herself and Simon that stuck with it, worked with the new and old.

She gave him a sweet smile, “I know, but you do many things here. It’s good to get recognition for that once in awhile.” She knew how the hard work behind the sense felt at times. She had felt that a few years ago and then again with the ministry election. Though her love for her work always took over her feelings of self-importance at the ministry.

“I so wish they’d bring back Quidditch at the school. It’s so sad not to have it there. I played for my house team as well. I so enjoyed it and it helped make me more confident.” She remembered her overly shy days. She hated the thought of some not getting that team experience.

She laughed as he mentioned a bat, “Bart will be pleased. He has already tried to get the four year olds bats, I keep telling him no. They will just use them on each other instead of learning Quidditch, but he is trying. So telling him Helena has a bat before birth would excite him way too much.” She chuckled, maybe she would be a beater like her brother one day. It didn’t really matter to Victoria, they could all hate Quidditch as far as she cared. She just wanted her children all happy and healthy.

Her expression changed as he talked about the new guy. “I was so shocked to hear of Emily and Gavin leaving. It was a shame to lose them.” She was personally sad over it because they are friends to her and she liked seeing them around. “Well hopefully your impression of him will change after working for awhile. Change is always hard no matter what the circumstances are.” She thought about when Mariel took Department Head and the awkward it had brought between them, though they worked through it and were completely fine now.

High turnover rate was an understatement.

"Yeah, I think the main ones who stay year to year in MLE are the trainees." But then why would one start the trainee program and just give up on it halfway through when so much effort was given to become YATI and to get through even a year of the training. Other than that it was him and Vic and the likes of Legend and Josh and Sabel who flitted in and out while switching between London based and outside assignments. "And there are so many new faces each year at the Golden Gates." New people and new wands to be aware of.

He'd take her word on the good jobs he did and deserving reconigation and all that. It wasn't like he did what he did for the thanks and the notice. But he also wasn't going to try and talk the quidditch manager out of her feelings in the matter as it had already failed. And they were having a nice conversation.

Speaking of the game she organized...

Simon couldn't imagine what it would have been like without quidditch during his years at Hogwarts. The likes of Jacob have likely gone ballastic. It had only happened when the Tri-wizard Tourniment had come to town and taken everyone's attention from almost anything else anyway. "Vindictus would likely be very uspet," he mused, knowing how proud the man had been of his sport and his pitch. The same one that he had heard had been seriously messed up by earthquakes or something.

He noticed her expression change as Vic talked of Emily and Gavin leaving for other pastures, the security man almost forgetting about the connection between the two. "Me too," Simon admitted, knowing it had been weird to make plans with his boss only to start the year with someone knew. "I miss Emily at least. Gavin always seemed to freak out anytime I was near." Like he was hiding something or likely just anti-social to an extent.

"Hopefully," he agreed.

“We can’t seem to keep people long here on level seven either. I mean the managers have all been here the longest and Mariel, but the other employees just seem to come and go.” She knew Saxon and Adam had been there a lot longer than her and Mariel was exactly the same length as her. “I bet that’s difficult dealing with the new people all the time. As security I mean.” It had to be difficult to keep up with everyone in the ministry.

She nodded as he talked about Vindictus, she assumed the man wouldn’t be too happy, but she hadn’t heard much about him in awhile. She knew he was doing a book at some point, but he seemed to be doing other things. “It would be nice if they at least tried to fix it.” The ministry had been dealing with that issue for what seemed like forever now. Always trying to keep young talent in the spotlight without a school playing was a very hard task. She thought about Bart and his hopes, it just made things harder for him and the others.

She chuckled as he talked about Gavin, “Gavin is a great guy, you just have to really get to know him. He’s not a people person like some of us.” She smiled thinking about the way Gavin was with others. “I always felt like I was bothering Emily even though she said I wasn’t when I would visit, but that’s just the way she worked.” She knew her friend was a workaholic and so was she, so she could certainly relate.

Turnover appeared to be a common thing here as well, but then he could tell the influx of people each January as being a mix of returning and new faces. Sometimes far more new faces than old. "Yeah," he agreed, "Hard to not try to second guess a new face on first notice." Could be someone new, or someone with a new look, or just someone you might not have seen in a while. IDs helped but they couldn't be fully relied on at all times. There was a good deal of leaning on matching wand scans the rest of the way.

"Well we'll see if I get another chance." The man was after all out of the country alongside Emily. And while he hoped his former department head would return someday, for however long, there was no evidence a return was set in stone down the line. Or whether or not Gavin would follow her along the way. Perhaps he'd leave the getting to know him to Sabel, having heard his friend had visited the couple and Zeke at one point over the holiday.

Speaking of bothering...or not bothering someone actually, they had reached the end of the main corridor while they had talked and walked. "It was nice catching up," Simon mused with a smile as he stopped. "But I should probably move on and leave you two to your own work." Or their walk or whatever, counting both woman and child in the equation. "Have a good day, Victoria." And with that he took his leave.

She figured it had to be hard not to second guess one’s self for as many new people came and went around the ministry, not even including the visitors each department had on a daily basis. “I could see why though. Not even the best memory person could remember all those faces.” What a job he had, honestly she had many names and faces to remember, but not nearly the amount that security did.

She nodded to his words, she didn’t even know if she’d see her friend much anymore now that they weren’t at the ministry. Did she really even know where they were at right now? She got lost in thought as she wondered how they were doing. “Zeke is still going to Hogwarts, isn’t he?” Now she was curious about that as well, though she wouldn’t blame anyone for taking their child out of that school.

He was now saying his goodbyes and she had totally lost track of time, “Oh goodness, yes I best get back to work. I have a meeting soon.” She had so many things to finish up on before the bundle made her entrance. “It was good talking to you Simon, don’t be a stranger.” Watching him head one direction she turned to head her own way.

The broom that went flying out of the patent offices was now racing back and forth through the corridor, zipping past people walking around, and even seeming to show off as it lopped and zig zagged along the way.

Heading back to the Patents Laboratory, Adam was startled when he saw a broom whizzing down the corridor, unoccupied. The six foot five man was forced to duck as it flew past his ear, and as he stood back up to his full height he drew his wand from the inside pocket of his suit jacket.

"Immobulus," he muttered, aiming his wand at the broomstick, a target that was providing difficult to predict the movement of. Adam could only hope that his spell his it's target, and that no one was hit by the out of control vehicle whilst it was still zooming around.
