Morgan P. Nickles EraAll historical records pertaining to Ministry of Magic RPG under Minister for Magic, Morgan P. Nickles [IC January 2094 - December 2096; OOC October 2017 - October 2018]
He seemed pleased with the choice of sandwich, so January smiled and began to unwrap her own. She was fond of those little muggle shops. They made good food, you know. She took a bite of her own sandwich. "Not too fond of your work relocation?" she inquired after swallowing her first bite. She hadn't talked to many people who were fond of the 'new' Ministry.
She smiled again at his comment. Vic did make her smile quite a bit. She didn't even think he had to try very hard, either. January caught herself gazing at him and shook herself from it before taking another bite of her lunch. Didn't want him to catch her, too.
"It's alright," she replied simply. "Now that we've cleaned it up, it's much nicer. I don't spent a whole lot of time in the office, though, so it doesn't bother me too much." At least all the dust had cleared so she wasn't sneezing all the time. "Better than a tunnel," she teased. Poor Vic.
"No." He replied, putting as much grumpiness into his answer as he could. Vic even made a pout as he chewed on the huge bite he'd just comped off the sandwich. "I have a few suspects in mind. I can't track their records and backgrounds because all the files are inside but... I'm relying on observation and interrogation." He grinned devilishly, and swallowed the bite. Eating with food in his mouth wasn't a problem to him, sadly.
He turned to look up at her when she started talking about her workplace. It sounded MUCH better than a tunnel. He lost himself in her red hair and fair complex, even more in the relaxed way she was talking and, unlike him, elegantly eating. "Pft, show off." He fake!grumbles, suppressing a chuckle with another bite. "Hardly anyone is bothered by our vampire-friendly environment. But I spend all of my day inside when I'm at work. I'm starting to grow fangs." He attacked the sandwich exaggeratedly to prove it.

She shrugged, what else was she going to do. I’m sorry to hear that, one of the worst sayings ever made, because people aren’t sure what else to say, a break up, a death, and it’s just I’m sorry to hear that then awkward, but she wasn’t going to let this go awkward. “It happens, nothing anyone could do.” She glanced up at him as he asked about the girls, now he could cue the awkward, because what normal mother did what she did, “Oh well.. .They are with Charely at the moment. I had to take care of some things before we do a joint custody. So I want fully be alone. He will be there as well.” She knew they could work together for their girls and it wasn’t like there was bad blood, though he had ever right to be upset. He treated her like gold and she just left. Ill or not, it wasn’t right and she would live with that. Oh and house hunting, “Oh well thank you, I might just take you up on that.” She could probably use a man’s help, no one seemed to take the women seriously when it came to big purchases.
So it was settled she would try to make a point to go to another department, it was a challenge she would fully accept and try, why not. What did she really have to lose except sometime of working, but she was working extra to keep her mind off of personal, so it should be alright to have a little extra break. “Owling sounds good and the café does sound perfect. If your break room is anything like ours I understand.” The hangar wasn’t falling apart, but it was just so dull and dirty. Maybe she could charm some walls or something to make it a little more colorful.
Gavin’s sense of humor, she tried to figure out why people wouldn’t get it, but she really knew why. “Well this man seems to need to just lighten up a bit.” Life was too short to be so uptight. “Do I dare ask what the conversation was about?” With Gavin it really could be anything. Her smiled back on her lips and a possible small blush on her cheeks she looked down, “Well maybe you’re right. I might try to go sometime, Bart might like to go as well.” Of course she’d think of things to do with her kids. So why not ice skate. “Oh I’m sure you both won in the end.” That was all she was going to say about that.
Perhaps he shouldn't have been as amused as he was by the thought of not giving himself enough credit. There were a few people he would have loved for her to say this in front of, maybe then they would stop pointing fingers at his ego. It was quite the contrary though, some would argue that he gave himself too much credit. "No...pretty sure she'd agree I'm awful for her." It'd be a joke of course but he could still see it along with a bit of dramatics.
Gavin was pleasantly surprized that his awkward statement hadn't turned the conversation for the worst and was set to move on knowing he hadn't tanked their little talk but then he could feel it, that thick layer of awkward that finally settled between them both at the mention of the girls. It wasn't very promising at all. "Oh." Was all he got out at first. It really was surprizing if only for the fact he didn't think Vic would have left them but given that she needed to sort things out first it might have been on the more selfless side. "And you've got enough taken care of now to allow for the joint custody to go over smoothly?" Despite having no children of his own, he understood how disastrous these custody things could get. It's why he didn't question his sister's choice to take the girls and run. "It's no problem. I'd like to think that by now I've got the hang of this house hunting thing." And he'd be more than happy to help.
There were plans in the making that distracted from the earlier, less comfortable topics. He cracked a smile at the mention of her break room. "Cafe it is. I heard they've been known to make excellent sandwiches. It'll be my treat." Taking her our of the Hanger, with nice food and fantastic company. In his mind his company alone would have been the icing on the cake, everything else would be excess but all geared towards returning the woman to some degree of normalcy. He could do without nearly seeing her cry again.
Oh she wanted to hear about the conversation. It wasn't anything tremendously bad, he didn't mind sharing. With a small shrug he tried to remember the exact line of conversation that had taken place. It was over a year ago, these things got fuzzy. "I believe Mr. Neves was looking to get a better knowledge of the building, being new and curious, I suggested he stop by Level 9, turns out he did." Gavin liked having his advice taken into consideration so there were no complaints with him. It was Ashby that had his knickers in a knot and a tight one at that. "How is Bart doing by the way?" At the mention of the boy he had to ask. Last he saw him he was crashing into people in shops. As for both wining...."I like to think so. She benefitted as much as I did." Even if she never said it.

Victoria just chuckled more, “If you say so, but I don’t think Emily would be with you if she really felt you were awful for her.” Unless she was one of those ones that were drawn to the bad ones, but since she didn’t believe Gavin was a bad one she certainly felt differently. “I think I do and the healer feels it’s time to slowly move into some routine with the joint custody. Plus Charely has been pretty supportive with all of it though he’s hurting and dealing with the change.” She was thankful for his understanding at least. Frowning though as she thought about how much she hurt him. “Well then I guess I would be foolish not to seek your advice if you are the expert on house hunting.” Giving a weak smile, she honestly just didn’t know if she had the energy to find yet another place to live. This was not how she saw her future going.
She thought quietly making sure she knew which café he was speaking of and she really did think she knew, “That sound perfect then, but you really don’t have to buy, but it’s sweet of you to offer. It will be just nice to have something to look forward too.” Since there really wasn’t much to look forward to lately in her world.
Hmm it was an interesting thing and Victoria began to wonder about it more, but looking at her watch she knew she must be headed back to the hanger. “Well maybe you’d be surprised at how many people really do take your advice.” He was a sensible man so she didn’t see why anyone would not listen to him. A worried look crossed her at Bart’s name, “He’s doing alright. Loves Hogwarts especially the potions class, but something weird is going on at the school. You probably saw in the paper. He’s been effected by that aging thing going on.” She was terribly worried which wasn’t helping anything else going on in her life.

Vic was kind of adorable when he was being grumpy. January kept that thought to herself, though, because she assumed he wouldn't find it as funny or as cute as she did. Heh. So, he had some suspects in mind, did he? She raised her eyebrows. "Within the Ministry?" Employees? That was... interesting? It was unfortunate that the files he wanted were inside. "You're MLE, just... bust the walls down, or something." That was her brilliant suggestion. Though she imagined they had already tried that. She actually had no idea.
January laughed. "Not a show off. My department head apparently just has better taste in architecture than yours." She was always suspiciously curious about that Emily Browne. She snorted laughed when he dug into his sandwich, complaining about vampires. "Drama queen." Drama queen with fangs apparently.
She set half of her sandwich down and took a drink from her water bottle. She crossed one leg over the other and glanced at Vic before looking out at the pond again. "I'll be missing a few days of work this week," she said. "I'm leaving before the weekend and then I'll be back on Monday." Just in case he was wondering. 'Cause, you know, she was kind of hoping he would miss her. Because she'd miss him. Y'know. Just saying.

Vic nodded confidently. Within the ministry, yes. "Do you find it unlikely? If you look back into the nastiest cases that occurred in our world, you'll find that it's mostly done from the inside." He swallowed his food, distracted from being grumpy, Jan apparently knew how to strike his interest in normal human conversation. "Our head security guy seems suspicious to me." THERE. He said it. After a distant, suspicious, dramatic look into the horizon, he bit again into the sandwich.
Bust through the walls? That made him laugh, a real laughter. "That's probably the first thing Emily tried." There was no subtlety with his boss, always succumbs to the extremes. "But yeah, definitely not an ounce of architectural sense." He scowled at the sandwich before finishing it off. Why were those so tiny? Oh but wait, did Jan just call him Drama queen? Vic choked on the food in his mouth, trying not to burst out laughing. He gave her a smirk, though, "If I'm drama queen, what does that make you? Drama queen sympathizer?" Also, he would like to add that he wasn't a queen. He had proof.
Vic raised his eyebrows at her. And waited for her to offer a reason. Nothing came. He wiggled in his seat a little, trying to get to the question-asking without sounding like.... a prosecutor. "Oh. Good that you told me. I would've been worried if you hadn't and then I looked for you and I would've gathered a searching party and--" He was going to stop rambling now. Vic cleared his throat and continued, "Is there anything wrong that you need to take care of?" Did she need help? Was she allowed to leave this long? Was she traveling? No, really, wasn't that a long time to be gone? It was like three days.

January thought about his question. Did she find it unlikely that someone behind the shutdown could be within the Ministry? "I suppose not," she said furrowing her brows a little bit. "That's what makes it scarier," she added as an afterthought, though it was rather quiet. Whatever they were doing, it seemed to be working. They were locked out of the Ministry, after all. She wondered if this had anything at all to do with the escape of the Time Thief, but January didn't have to heart to bring that up with Vic.
She laughed lightly along with Vic. That didn't surprise her. Those MLEers were interesting. And aggressive. She took another sip of her water and tried not to spit it out when he almost choked on his food and called her a 'drama queen sympathizer'. "Oi, don't drag me into this. This is all you," she said with a half-grin, waving her hand in his general direction.
A search party? Her eyebrow raised slightly. "Um... No. Well, yes. Sort of." That wasn't very helpful. January set her water bottle down. "I'll be up in Bedford... helping move my dad into an assisted living facility." She nodded twice and looked at her hands. It was a hard thing to face, but she didn't have the means or the time to take care of her dad and neither did her sister. She worked too much and he needed someone with him more and more as the days went by. "I've already arranged it with my department head and all that." Just in case he was worried about that part.

It did make it scarier. He offered January a reassuring smile, though, and dang this space between them, he went ahead and draped an arm on the bench behind her. "Nothing's scary, we have a fantastic security and investigating teams." Y'know... except for the suspicious head of the security.
"Stings, doesn't it?" He smirked, being called drama queen was amusing actually, it doesn't really "sting". He was going to tell Lucie how funny January was.
Vic dropped the humor and the smirk when the issue seemed to be of great importance. He leaned forward on his thighs and nodded his head a bit solemnly at January. "Yes. That's understandable." He didn't know the details of her father's condition, but he was sure it took too much time trying to provide him with the best health care his daughters wished to offer. He didn't pay attention to her work arrangements, that wasn't what concerned him now. "How are you holding up?" She was a strong woman, she held herself perfectly well on the outside, but would she be able to open up about what she was really feeling? Vic was a perfect listener.

Was that him discreetly complimenting himself? Even if he wasn't, January smiled over at him. "You guys are okay," she teased. There really was too much space between them, wasn't there? January piled up the garbage and put it in the bag the sandwiches came in. Once she moved it to the other side of her, January scooted over so she could sit closer to Vic.
She hadn't brought up her father's physical and mental state with him, or anyone for that matter. It was a hard thing to discuss, but perhaps not as difficult with Vic because she knew he may have some understanding of what it was like to lose your parents. His situation had indeed been different, though. How was she holding up? She was felt scared, nervous, guilty of not be able to take care of him herself, worried that this wouldn't work and that he wouldn't last much longer. She was holding up a lot of emotions and all them seemed to stress her out when she thought about it too much. "I'm okay," she said putting on a small smile. She could do it. It would be okay.
"Do you want to finish my sandwich?" she asked, picking it up in its wrapper. Turns out she hadn't been that hungry. And she could use a subject change. No need to weigh her problems down on Vic, right?

They were okay? Was that all she was going to give him? Vic smirked at her but didn't get the chance to reply to her because she was sort of packing things up and dumping them away and he tried to help but didn't know what to do, tidying up and being neat didn't come natural to him like the womenfolk.
She was okay. And this time it wasn't teasing, she was trying to be brave as he expected. Vic had no idea how to react to this. Should he push her a little? What if she started crying or yelling at him? Maybe he should play it cool and just nod at her. That would be so insensitive, he knew this much. Maybe he should just wrap an arm around her shoulders, maybe that was why she scooted closer to him. Awman! Since when was he bad at reading people??? Okay, just consider her a witness in a trial... just a witness... juuust a normal witness... Vic's arm wrapped around her shoulders and he squeezed one of them encouragingly, "It'll be okay. You can do this." Lame, mister lawyer.
FOOD. Yes, please, whew! "Are you sure?" He extended his free hand towards the half-sandwich but didn't take it all to himself yet. They could share the half sandwich.

This is why she had been hesitant to tell him... or anyone. There was a little bit of silence, a shoulder-squeeze and a few words of encouragement that sounded a little forced. Not that it made her dislike Vic at all, but it was always awkward for January when she had to share anything related to... err... emotion. She wasn't good at that. Obviously, she was concerned for her father, but it was hard for her to express her feelings. She didn't exactly like people being able to read her, even though she kind of wanted to Vic to be able to. Whatever, her thoughts were confusing.
January cleared her throat and regained her composure. "Anyway, I thought I'd just let you know in case you didn't see me for a few days." That's all.
She smiled and placed the sandwich in his hand because she could tell he wanted to eat it. "Positive. I'm full." She hadn't been starving to begin with, and she was sure he had a slightly bigger stomach than she did. He could have it all to himself.

Right.
Dealing with a witness was much easier. They expected you to tell them what they needed to do at court, who to talk to and how to stay safe until trial day. But this, this was torture and puzzles and he just sat there with his arm around her shoulders, nothing came out. Not that she was giving any vibes, either.
He cleared his throat when she talked. "No, yeah, sure. I'm glad you told me. I want you to be able to tell me... everything." Gulp. Neck rubbing. Gulp. This was too hard, man.
"Yes, thank you." Food was perfect, maybe he should stuff his face with it and busy himself with it.

Alright, well, this silence was a bit somber now. Apparently neither of them were very good at expressing things with words. Although, she did like that bit about him wanting her to be able to tell him anything. That made her smile a bit and she thought about it for a moment before speaking up.
"Well, there's something else I need to tell you then." She paused and looked over at him, letting a dramatic pause sit between them. Then she leaned a little closer and whispered in his ear with a grin, "I reeeaaaally really like you."
Then she kissed his cheek. He was okay with that, right?

Vic swallowed the big chunk he took off his sandwich before looking at Jan. There was something.... Oh! He smirked, "They do say I'm a lovely man." Whaaaa, it was true... but ah yes. Ahem.
He held her hand and lifted it up to his lips, "I care about you, too, Jan. Your well-being concerns me very much." It was basically the same thing that she said, but he said it with a serious face. "I want us to be able to share whatever burdens our chest." Yes? Yes.

January laughed lightly when he agreed with her. "Do they say you're humble, too?" she teased. Because that wasn't true. Oh, but Vic was indeed a lovely man. Lovely to look at, lovely to talk to, lovely to hold hands with. And... she'd like to think he was all hers. They hadn't really had a... 'determine the relationship' conversation before. But that could wait.
She smiled fondly when he brought her hand to his lips. Her cheeks warmed up a little bit at his words. It was really nice to have someone to care about her and she felt the same way. Seeing as though she was having difficulty with expressing her feelings every day today, January rotated her hand to cup Vic's face and leaned in to kiss him instead. "Okay," she said simply, still smiling as she pulled away.
Bringing her hand back to her lap, January uncrossed her legs. "Do you want to come over tomorrow? I'll make you dinner." Was food a good incentive? She wanted to see him outside of work, especially before she left for the weekend.

A day off felt so nice. From work and from being a mother. Although, she still couldn't help but wonder how her sons were doing and if they were okay. Which was ridiculous, 'cause she wouldn't leave them in someone's care unless she was absolutely sure they'd be okay. The young woman paused next to the pond, arms crossed as she stared at the water.
.....That feeling was never going to go away, was it...?
Well, she better make that internal struggle into something petty before Destiny showed up.

Vic's smirk was still plastered on his face, "Is that a lay-off-me-for-now okay or yes-I-agree-with-you okay?" Because there was a difference and with women you could never tell until it was too late. He went back to the last bite of her sandwich and finished it.
"You had me at dinner." He grinned at her. "Would you like me to come a bit earlier and... help you? I want to prove my helpfulness outside the court." He never cooked and ate what he cooked, mainly because it was... yeaahhh, well he could always hand her spoons and pans and other utensils.

Aw, she had meant it in a good way. "That was an..." January paused, smiled, and pondered about how to word her thoughts. "... I agree with you completely okay." Because that was easier and less potentially embarrassing to say, rather than 'I care about you more than anyone else and I want to share everything with you'. Her own thoughts embarrassed her. She hadn't felt this... cheesy since the last time she fell in lo--
Ahem. She stopped her thoughts right there.
"I would love that," she said. January was certain Vic was more than capable of being useful outside the court. That way, if he had any food allergies or anything, he could say something before he was stuck with whatever she made.
Taking a glance at her watch, January sighed. Lunch break was almost up. "I should get back soon. I have a poltergeist to take care of." Those were always fun.
Sooooo João reached the park at last, intact, safe and still invisible.
He halted to catch his breath and didn't lift the charm yet. He had to see if there were people rushing to catch anyone after the alarm. So he walked to the tree he and WWW had met before, and started eyeing the ship from afar.

Okay, not that smirk faltered to a small smile. Good, the smile said. The possibility that she wasn't being honest with him was always there of course, but he trusted his gut and his Law Enforcement training in reading facial and body language.
Ah yes! Leaving. Back to the tunnels. Vic nodded and stood up after her, "I'll walk with you." Because he was in no rush in getting to where he was supposed to go. Emily was probably too busy with her young and careless Aurors to check on him anyway, he was going to take advantage of this, yes.
Jared was ready to impress. He had brought all of the stuff he would need inside his pocket. Well, of course, where else? He was a man, he wouldn't go around carrying a little bag. Women did that, not men. At least not this man.
He arrived at the park about 20 minutes before the time they had decided to meet, just to make sure everything was already in place when Maria got there. He didn't carry a bag around, but he knew pulling lots of things out of his pockets wouldn't look very attractive.
In about 5 minutes, the snacs were all set nicely on the picnic cloth. Jared sneakly enchanted the cloth so when they sat on it it wouldn't feel like the hard ground, but some nice cushions. Perfect. Everything was ready now.
The 29 year-old walked over to the nearest tree and leaned against it, taking the last few minutes before Maria arrived to think about his business at the Ministry. Or the fact he wasn't able to enter the Ministry at all when he tried to a couple of days ago. The thought brought a slight frown to Jared's face as he pondered what in the world was wrong with the building.

Sweet Merlin, she was actually wearing a dress.
Anyone who knew Maria Jennings would know that she didn't do dresses. Didn't do anything other than jeans, a simple top and trainers. Maybe flats too. But dresses? Not a chance. But, as she constantly reminded herself for the past couple of days, this was a date. A date with someone she had known back during her Hogwarts days. It didn't mean that she could come in any old clothes, something her sister was oh-so-kind enough to remind her about.
Not wanting to be late, Maria looked both ways before hurrying across the street and through the entrance into the park. Perfect. Now she just needed to find that mermaid lover that was her date. Weird, this was. And yet, as much as she was trying to hide it, she was nervous. Nervous and so much in her own head that she almost missed a very important clue.
Almost.
If there was a picnic cloth here, then that meant that there had to be a Jared here too. Okay, mermaid man, come out wherever you-- What was up with his face? "Oh come on, it can't be that bad going on a date with me," Teasing, she was, with her raised eyebrows and the small smirk that was playing on her face. And did he notice that she was wearing a dress for once? Did he? He'd better.

When their workplace had been regulated to the Underground instead of the more environment-friendly Ministry, Simon had found himself spending more and more of his free time out of doors. When the weather was alright to do so of course given London's habit of being rather raining and foggy at times. It had been one of the reasons he had been going to the random quidditch matches and such rather than staying at his apartment or working extra late at work.
Even after they had gotten back into the rightful building the auror had kept up the habit just for fun. A nice lunch in an open cafe. A visit in the country with his family on a rare break. Window shopping along Diagon Alley when it wasn't crowded. And the occasional absent stroll in one of the many little, and big, city parks around the city which was what Simon was occupying his free afternoon at the moment.

She was accustomed to being dragged places by now, and furthermore, she was accustomed to following from afar, her eyes locked on the figure that was quickly becoming smaller as he ran off with a soccer ball tucked under his arm. Merlin. At least he was smart enough to have purchased her a coffee on their way, she was content enough with going along with his plans for now, considering he would have to go along with hers when she saw Gavin later in the evening.
Sipping from her cup, Emily couldn't help but survey the park, as she always did, and noticed a familiar form not far ahead of her. Bennett. Elongating her stride, Emily soon fell in step with the Auror, her eyes returning to lock on Zeke in the distance. "Nice day for a walk," she commented before sipping again. He didn't mind indulging his boss, did he?

There was plenty of people out and about in the park today. The early summer weather holding out to being pleasant before any chance of heat. Simon paid attention to his surroundings and the presence of others around him but he tried his best to tone down his level of alertness. He was off duty after all and the people around were a mixture of muggles and magical folk. As such he didn't readily recognize a young boy he had met in passing at one of Gryffindor's past matches as he ran off in the distance. But the form of a certain woman coming up beside him and matching his long-legged stride was hard to miss.
His gaze passed beside him to Emily, silently acknowledging his boss' presence as they both continued to walk. "Indeed it is," he remarked in agreement. Apparently he hadn't been the only one with the idea concerning the park on their time off.

Bennett's response didn't require further elaboration, so she was happy enough to let that conversation die. And in fact, she was willing to let any and all conversation die. It wasn't her strong suit. It was a skill she was developing, and with the right company it came easily enough... with Bennett though, it was still a chore, but this was in no way a reflection of him as a person.
Her eyes narrowed slightly as she watched Zeke stop and talk to strangers, apparently giving them directions as she saw him pointing and stuff before giving them a wave. She returned it, reluctantly. Yes yes yes, she was watching him, she knew he knew, they were fine. Her eyes didn't leave the boy even as he continued to the flat grass.
"Is this what you do with your weekend, Bennett?" she asked, perhaps a little curious. Loiter around parks company-less. Not so long ago she'd have thought this was fine, but she was fast becoming used to not being alone, so on closer consideration, it seemed almost sad.
