City Park
Tucked in amid London's busy streets and buildings is one of the cities many parks. More than a few acres, the park consists mainly of a wooded meadow with a large pond in its center. A few monuments are scattered throughout the park, some along the trail that runs through the park along with benches for those who'd like to sit.
Come have a picnic by the pond and enjoy the waterfowl or take a stroll along the trails with a friend. Enjoy the quiet sounds of the park and its inhabitants before venturing back into the city.
Literally. He had a bag on and it had binoculars, a camera, and other spy-gear-type items in it, including a sneakoscope and a miniature, moving model of the suspicious ship currently residing on the Thames. Now he was a Yorkshire man by birth, but he lived in London these days, and as a Londoner... he had a right to investigate strange happenings in his city. Such as the closing down of his beloved place of work. Uh huh.
He'd picked out a spot in the city park, plopped down in the shade of a tree within viewing distance of the ship, and dug out his ordinary Muggle camera to start peeping on the ship.
Where was João? He was gonna miss all the cool spy stuff.

João wasn't as prepared as WWW at all--all he had was a muggle voice recorder and camera that would hopefully work in there, his wand and perfection of disillusionment charm. Honestly, ever since he had that lunch with the older man, he had been practising it. He got it all well now, though, and he really hoped things wouldn't get that ugly, but he had also practised some memory charm too.
You never knew with mystery. Got it? 'know' and mystery?
Ugh. He hated himself instantly, and just banished all thoughts but finding WWW--
He hadn't paid much attention to the man with camera, but there wasn't anyone in sight, so he looked again and couldn't believe it. He would have laughed to himself, but things were too gloomy for any humour, so he just approached the man.
"Hello," he greeted him in a whisper, "what have we got?" Any suspicious things so fa--
What if this whole 'working in weird places' was a plot to cover for THEM?! What if they had to be seperated from the rest of the Ministry because of their illegal experiments, but seperating them only would raise questions, so the whole ministry had to suffer?!
He was so clever! He didn't share his thoughts, because the less they talked, the better; but he knew that was it.

There he was! AHA! Williamson snapped a photo of João sneaking over before the other guy even realized it was him. Heheh. He was good at this spying stuff. If anyone saw him, even in the park, looking at the ship, they'd probably all think he was just a Muggle tourist. An American tourist, even. He wasn't even familiar with the logo on his shirt, but it looked good on him and it was comfy!
So now, down to business. "Glad you could make it," he whispered back, glancing around near them just to be certain no one was eavesdropping. "It looks like a container ship, a little bit on the old side, named the Elizabeta. I haven't gotten any closer, but I have got some photographs of the people on board..."
He reached into his backpack and pulled them out. Yes, he had done his homework and used wizarding film in the Muggle camera. So what if the pictures turned out blurry, they still worked and moved right. "We've got the Department Head, Ashby Summers. Relative newcomer to the Ministry, I think he started just last year. Blonde hair, dimple in the chin..." William passed over the photograph. "This guy is an unspeakable, I'm sure of it. Name's Demetrius Clay. I saw him around the Ministry a few times before it closed for the holidays." He passed João a photograph of him on board the ship too, and a few more as he narrated who was in them.
"Evelyn Flores. No idea anything else about her except that I'm SURE she's been with Mysteries for a while now and she is SUPER shifty. This lady and this chap seem newer to the department, so they're either EXTRA suspicious or else just harmless. Only time will tell." He wrinkled his nose and looked back to the ship. "Whatcha think? What is this container ship containing?" Secrets, no doubt.

João liked it that they skipped the preambles and directly dived into the business. He nodded and kept quiet. There wasn't any comments needed, and it was better if they didn't talk unnecessarily. He waited for him to get the photographs and was impressed with the professionalism of WWW, but they couldn't waste any time with compliments, so he saved those for later if the mission was successful. He took the photograph and scrutinised it. Face memorised. He took the second photograph and examined the face while WWW spoke as he matched every information he said with the faces.
...Evelyn Flores... he remembered the name from somewhere... but where? Evelyn Flores... "She looks so." Shifty. And that was a very important comment. Evelyn the shifty. Noted. Then the new chap, well, new ones were the most innocent, no? He didn't look too harmful anyway, but then again, none did. Yet, they produced those mutants. Who knew what else was hidden there?
He wrinkled his nose in synchronisation with his former professor and looked back to the ship too.
"They're inviting us to discover." Yeah. Letting a buncha mutants like that, they asked for spies! "Have you got a plan?" If it were their beloved building, it was an easy job. But now? João knew nothing about the ship's inside. An insider would be very handy now... why didn't they have one?

Alright, João seemed to be following. That was good. They had a good start on their hands here... now to see what he was bringing to the table.
"They're trying to make it look like they have nothing to hide, but we know better." William passed his co-spy the binoculars. "Just look at 'em all, having an impromptu gathering on the deck. I bet that's not even a real ship. It's probably just a cover for some offices UNDER the Thames." Now THAT would be mysterious. And cool, probably a really cool place to work.
But also a shiftyyyy one. "I can't do all the work here," he side-eyed João. "But I was thiiiiiinking... we could split up. One person goes in either cloaked in invisibility or with one of those... cloaking charms on, you know, the ones that make it so people can't see you." He was having a momentary brain fart and couldn't remember the word 'disillusion.' "OR we both go in......dis...disillusioned!" That's what it was! Charms had never been his strong suit for this reason.
"What do you think?" Surely João had brought some ideas to their mission as well?

Psh--the place's name was 'mysteries'. João grunted to say he didn't believe them too, and observed the ship with the binoculars. He narrowed his eyes in suspicion as WWW talked, but it was hard to look through binoculars like that, so he had to drop the 'suspicious' expression off his face. He said "Yeah, it's probably a distraction," he said. So people would focus on the deck, but the real thing was going on somewhere else.
He lowered the muggle gadget and eyed WWW back. He remained impassive to his momentary brain fail and nodded in the end.
"I've perfected the charm," he said, but didn't offer to do it on him. He wouldn't be rude to his former professor and partner-in-spying like that. "I say we check in via the reception, because if we get caught, they can't blame us." He wasn't going to lose his status over a few stupid mutants. "And ask to go to the bathrooms to get ready and such." He paused for a moment. They needed a reason... "We can even ask them for a tour first to know where is where. Say we're fascinated by their working area or something." WHO got to see a container ship, really? It was a valid excuse.

Grunt. Yeah, William understood João perfectly. He spoke man, and these two men were in agreement on the suspicious and mysterious department of Mysteries.
Aha, so his partner in crime knew the charm... that was good to hear. He dug his little working model of the ship out of his backpack so he could point and gesture at it while discussing their maneuvers. "So you want to go in through the front, then escape the guided tour, and take our own tour of the ship?" He made a so-so, not bad face. "But what if they don't do tours? What if they shut us down right away?" See, that was why one of them should go in already-in-disguise, so at least they had a 50/50 shot of sneaking around and investigating.

"Yes." Exactly. WWW didn't like it? João paused to consider his proposition. "Mr. Isaacs--my director, was apparently an ex mysteries man and he told me to ask for a tour." But they had a new guy, WWW said... "So we go in there seperately? If the first one of us doesn't return in 20 minutes, then clearly they do a tour. But if they shoo us away, we can both sneak in." But then... of course... "If you think two people requesting a tour on the same day is too suspicious..." Hmm. See, one thing João would never do was to risk himself. He wanted to do this as 'legally' as possible, and he was sure WWW would understand that? He was the personal assistant, after all...

He stood one hand in his pocket the other idle at his side. Maybe when she got here he would suggest after having the walk to grab some ice cream?

Hmmmmmm so one of his superiors was an ex-Mysteries man... that was pretty compelling evidence. William scratched his chin and tilted his head and considered the few ideas they had. "No...... noooooo.......... I think we should try it your way first." He nodded slowly in approval. "I think we should both go in, looking kind of... touristy, real interested in Mysteries you know, and then if they turn us DOWN for a tour, or if they cut it short... THEN we will try the incognito route."
He was pretty set on this idea, and so he started packing up his backpack. "You ready?"

His way? Okay. And anyways, WWW HAD BEEN his professor at Hogwarts, so it was pretty normal if they got along now well enough to request a tour around mysteries' mysteries.
"I'm ready," he said as he shoved his hands into his coat's pockets, checking the objects he's stuffed there, and looked around to make sure there was no one around to see them walking away from the tree. Once he made sure they weren't spied, he took a few steps to the park and turned to wait for his ex-professor.
They were going to be such heros, he could feel it.
What a week. Mariel had hoped that her first week in her new position would have gone better, but as circumstances were, it just didn't. She'd rather just forget it to be honest, especially what capped it off, but she'd have to wait to see any repercussions from that. She was sure there'd be a few and it just reminded her why she didn't let her guard down for just anyone. That was a lapse in judgement, even if he wasn't just anyone. But next week would be better. Or at least she'd remain optimistic.
Quiet was what she wanted on her day off, though she did feel a craving to be out of the house, and those thoughts led her to the city park. It had been a while since she had visited the park and appreciated its simplistic beauty, but it seemed that was just what she needed today. Mariel was thankful that it was slightly on the warmer side for February and her cloak kept her quite comfortable as she neared the pond at the center. Finding a quiet bench nearby, the brunette dropped into it and looked out at the still water as she let any heavy thoughts drift away.

Even though it was his day off work that didn't mean that Dmitry could slack off. This week he'd gone a bit crazy with the take away, being back at work had left him too tired to cook most nights and so he'd been ordering in. That meant that now that he had a day off he needed to do some serious exercise. He'd decided that the park would be the perfect place to do so. He couldn't really get lost there and he figured he'd have a beautiful view to look at as he ran.
Dmitry had been running for about an hour now, having done a few laps of the park and was starting to get a bit exhausted. He'd probably ran for long enough now to counteract at least some of the junk he'd ate during the week. Or at least he hoped it would. When he reached the pond again Dmitry slowed his pace, coming to a complete stop near a bench and starting to stretch out his muscles. The last thing he wanted was for his legs to cramp up later, or to be so sore he would barely be able to walk later in the day. He'd had the happen once and it was quite an annoyance.
"Marial," he said brightly when he noticed the woman had come to sit on the bench he'd been standing next to. He decided not to move closer to her though since while he was fit, and it wasn't all that warm here he was still a little bit sweaty.

Trying to push thoughts of both her professional life and personal life away, Mariel tried to focus more on the scenery at hand - bare trees that would soon have buds, the occasional bird serenading a mate. But the thoughts kept drifting back. Perhaps it was a mistake to be left alone with her own mind as it demanded her attention. She supposed she should have found something mindless to throw herself into and forget her concerns.
As she spent more time mulling this over, the 28 year old became increasingly aware of a figure running through the park. It was actually a good place to do that sort of exercise, she thought as her green eyes followed him. She really should get back into some sort of regimen, she also thought as she was reminded of her recent visit to New Zealand and how out of practice she had been when she went in for a day of training with her former team for fun. The brunette subconsciously rubbed her shoulder in memory.
Familiarity set in as the man neared and stopped by her bench. Mariel smiled lightly as she watched for a moment, her smile widening a bit as he recognized her. "Dmitry.." That was a pleasant surprise, she had vaguely wondered about his application with the Ministry after she had met him before Christmas. She slid over on the bench a bit to allow him room to sit if he wanted, though she figured he might still be in the middle of his workout. "So, how are you settling in to London? Did you find work at the Ministry?" Not that she was one to assume, but she figured he might have or else he might not still be in the country.

Ah, so she did remember him. That was always a plus. They had only met the once so he wasn't 100 percent sure she would recall him. The only reason he hadn't been confused with all the new people he'd met lately was due to all the people he'd had to remember when he was younger. It had trained him to be good at putting names and faces together. He did occasionally have memory lapses of course, what person didn't, they just weren't a regular occurrence for him.
When Mariel moved over on the bench Dmitry carefully took a seat, still staying a good distance away from her though. Unlike him Mariel didn't look sweaty, and he didn't want to make her feel a little bit gritty or gross. Though she had said she played Quidditch at one point, if he recalled correctly, so she was probably used to the effects of a good work out. Still it was somewhat different if you were unlucky enough to have someone else's sweat get on you. Something he was trying to avoid. The length of the bench left them with a comfortable distance though, not too far away from each other, but also not forced to be too close. Which was a good thing since they were still only acquaintances at best.
"I was lucky enough to get a job in the IMC. Not in the MLE like I was hoping for, but it's still a good position," Dmitry replied, giving Mariel an easy smile and making sure to use acronyms in case they should be overheard by a Muggle. Last thing he wanted was for someone to overhear him use the word Magic. At least with the acronym what he was talking about would be unclear to anyone but a fellow wizard or witch. "Although I've got to say I'm not too crazy on the workspaces at the moment," although he did have to admit that having a computer was great. Maybe not for his work but his solitaire was improving. Which was nice. "I think I'm settling in alright though. I mean I bought an apartment and I pretty much know where everything is now." Which he was counting as a success.
"How did you like Germany?" Dmitry asked, remembering that she'd mentioned going there for Christmas. Something about her sister having another child.

Making her way over to the park Kat looked around and saw Stephen not too far away. A smile appeared on her face, and she headed his way. The first time they'd met had been a little awkward and she'd been really nervous but she'd enjoyed it immensely. So when he invited her to go on a walk she had happily agreed.
Approaching she tucked a bit of hair behind her ear and said "Hello." Her eyes bright and happy matching her smile.

Approaching she tucked a bit of hair behind her ear and said "Hello." Her eyes bright and happy matching her smile.
Stephen had been staring at random spot on a building close by when he heard a voice and turned to see Kat. He gave her his biggest goofy smile.
"Hello there, how you've you been? It seems as though you've gotten prettier since than the last time I saw you" and that was in fact the truth. Kat seemed the sweet kind of girl, the type you could bring home to your mother. Ofcourse Stephen never really went for those kinds, which would explain why he was in the position he was in now.
Mariel turned slightly more towards Dmitry as he took a seat on the bench, soon smiling lightly he began talking. He had made somewhat of an impression on her, whether it had been him amiable personality and subsequent ease of conversation when they had met or the fact that he vaguely reminded her of a dark point in her life simply because of circumstance, but at any rate she was able to recall their chance meeting a couple months ago without much difficulty.
"Oh that's great," she said, genuinely happy for him that he had secured a position with the Ministry. Especially as that had seemed to be his goal or else she figured London would have only been an extended visit for him. "Well, I did think you'd be well-suited for either," she added with a gentle shrug, recalling his qualifications. And, to be perfectly honest, as much as she truly did hope that Emily would be able to straighten out the MLE, she knew the woman had inherited an awful mess and any new faces in the department might have a difficult time under the scrutiny. Though with the experience she seemed to remember him saying he had, maybe he would have been some assistance coming in with a different perspective. Though maybe she really should keep her opinions to herself. She was already overthinking it. "I'm sure you'll enjoy IMC.. know what you'll be doing there yet?" she added with a brighter smile, just asking as a matter of conversation. She was at least familiar with Gidyun of the department, but figured anything there would be remotely interesting with the travel potential there.
Mariel managed a chuckle as he continued, though she wasn't sure she found the situation entirely all that funny. "Can't say I blame you there," she started, trying to remember where IMC had been relocated. They were in that building still inhabited by muggles, weren't they? And had to pretty much work alongside them as far as she knew.. Muggles were fun at times, but she wasn't sure how easy it would be to do her job with one poking around all the time. "Could be worse though," she added with the hint of an amused grin. "You could be in a crumbling airplane hangar. I've actually gotten a promotion recently - head of Games and Sports now - and that's what we've acquired." She gave a quick glance out in the park noting that no one else was close by. Not that she had really said anything incriminating but perhaps some of her wording would strike someone not privy as odd. Or not, she was often just exceptionally mindful.
The brunette nodded a bit as Dmitry continued, speaking a little of how he had been getting on locally. "Probably helps to have family in the area," she said, remembering him saying something about visiting relatives while he was waiting on hearing back from the Ministry. "Though I do know what it's like to be new in a foreign country so if I can be of any assistance.." she shrugged. It seemed like he was pretty squared away though, but a recent memory of showing someone else around town came to mind bringing a reminiscent smile to her face. And Christmas actually tied into that as well, growing her smile a bit more. "I did enjoy Germany, thank you for asking," she said, with a little more enthusiasm. Rather pleased that he had remembered. "Always nice to visit family.. I trust you had a nice holiday as well?" She thought she vaguely remembered that he had spoken about seeing his local relatives.

This wasn't his day. A sick child that couldn't go to school but cried at the thought of being left in a Daycare she was always dropped at. He would have left her there regardless but knew in her current condition Avery would likely cry herself into an asthma attack. When faced with a problem like that he had no choice but to collect her and take her to her Mum's office. It wasn't the best place but his office was the least conducive to caring for an ill child, if you could even call it an office.
Before heading back to the decrepit building her decided a stop off in the park would do him some good. A little fresh air before getting back into that hazard zone with all it's dust and Merlin knew what else.
Lunch break might have been out of the question given all the time he was now wasting.

She had been isolating herself, seeing a healer, and now she had to get back to reality. She had to go back to work, see people, possibly him. There was no way she could avoid seeing him at work. They worked in the same department so she would see him at staff meetings, break room, thought she had spoken to him about things and she hoped he understood she wasn't fully sure.
Deciding she couldn't go in just yet and needing a small little detour she decided to walk through the park. It was pretty and so much better than an airplane hanger. Her small frame had gotten smaller and she lifted her bracelets to push them from falling off her arm.
As she walked she noticed someone that looked very familiar, but shrugged it off. Being in a muggle area she really wasn't seeing many people she knew, but he looked very familiar. As she got closer it hit her and she gave a small smile. Seeming normal and happy, that was a mask she would wear for awhile. "Gavin.. is that you?"

The more he thought about it was the less likely the lunch break later was looking for him. In light of the situation he'd probably end up having to leave work early; something he never really agreed with but was finding necessary. This meant he shouldn't have been sitting on this bench. Still a lot to get done in the office before he made his early leave.
Gavin got set to haul himself off the bench before he had a chance to get comfortable but a familiar voice caught his attention. The voice was perhaps the only familiar thing. Victoria didn't quite look the same. There was something off. Correct him if he was wrong but didn't having a baby add a few pounds that a woman would then have to try losing again? He had to remind himself it was none of his business.
"Vic." He said, returning the woman's smile, not at all convinced but in no position to call her out on it. "You must be keeping awfully busy. I can't remember the last time we had a run in." That day with the mutant some time last term might have been it.

She walked over to the bench and sat down next to without a greeting hug knowing he wasn't that big into contact. "Oh well I have been isolating myself a bit, but I'm getting back around." She could easily blame the twins, but not bringing them up was easier at the moment. So she would just be truthful. She was isolating herself from everything and everyone. It wasn't the best plan of action, but it was what she had to do.
"Plus with this new arrangement it's hard to run into anyone in other departments. Some of our buildings are further apart." Her's for example seemed the furthest being a airplane hanger, but it was what they had to deal with. "I hope your building isn't too horribly run down." She assumed most were though.

There was something he never expected to hear. Not from a socialite such as herself. "Isolation?" It never struck him as the type of thing she would have taken part in simply for the fact that she seemed to have a genuine interest in the company of others. Something he couldn't say he had. Not at all. The less people he ran into in any one day was the better, with the exception of people he didn't mind. "Taking a page out of my book, huh? How's it working for you?" People typically couldn't appreciate the beauty in solitude but it was worth asking.
Talk of the new department locations nearly sent him scowling but he managed to keep a perfectly neutral face to all of it. Being infested with Merlin knows what was one thing but being locked out? He was still waiting for the good times one was meant to have as Department Head. "They're certainly inconvenient, the distance they create can only be described as a nuisance." You know how far away MLE was now? It was ridiculous.
The mention of his office brought the scowl he'd been trying to keep away. Just the thought of that place made him want to blow a frickin' hole through the actual Ministry's wall. He was that desperate to get out of the place they now conducted business. "Let's just say I'll be lucky if the roof doesn't cave in on us and the walls don't collapse before we can find a way back into the Ministry or get Maintenance to have a look." The place was literally falling apart.

All she could do was nod as he repeated the word. She knew it sounded odd coming from her, but there was no other explanation for it. Well there really was a better explanation, but she just wasn't sure she could get into it. "Well I guess it worked well, but it was time to come out of hiding I guess." She shrugged not really making her usual eye contact that she liked to have when speaking to people.
She listened as he talked about the departments being so far away, it really wasn't that inconvenient for her since she really didn't have many friends other than Gavin and Emily in other departments. She really should try to get out more, but at the moment she wasn't sure what the point was. "Yeah it is very inconvenient. I guess I should be glad I'm not one that needs to go to the other buildings." She tried to jokingly chuckle but it did come out forced.
It was certainly time to change the subject, "So Gavin, any new women trying out love potions for your behalf?" She did manage an actual smile with her joke, "Just kidding, but what has been going on in your life. It really has been a while since I've gotten to see you." Was he dating? Though the thought of Gavin dating made her chuckle. He did not like it when she wanted to fix him up, so she'd be shocked if he would even try it out. Maybe she should follow his lead on that one.
