| | The Observatory Feel like looking at some stars? You've come to the right place. From here in the Hogwarts Observatory you can see a tiny fraction of the 400 billion or so stars found in the Milky Way Galaxy. This circular but spacious room has been locked and opened as many times as there have been Astronomy professors staffed at the school. The huge telescope that former Hogwarts Astronomy professor, Professor Anteres, had put in years ago is still here and fully operable. Students are very welcome to try and use it. If you need a hand Professor Flamsteed is always somewhere close by and can lend you assistance. If the giant telescope is too much there is always smaller telescopes stored away in the cupboards around the room which you can borrow and use as you please as well as other astronomy objects.
Large star charts are pinned to the walls which anyone is free to study for own leisure or school assignment. Don't try and take the charts down though, as they are charmed to warn if somebody tries to remove them.
Stargazing is an activity best practiced at night and therefore the observatory remains unlocked. Students adhere by a curfew and after that hour no students should be found out of bed. If you desire to study the heavens after curfew, you need a signed note from Professor Flamsteed showing that you are allowed to stay up after hours. If caught after hours without a signed note you can expect that there will be consequences like loss of house points or detention.
The observatory is place for scientific inquiry much like the library is a place to immerse yourself in books, since it’s a shrine to our massively beautiful universe. Please respect any teacher or student spending time in the observatory by not running around or shouting in high pitched voices. Just because Professor Flamsteed isn't currently in the observatory doesn't mean he isn't watching what is going on. OOC: you do not HAVE to RP your character asking permission from Professor Flamsteed in his office before posting here after hours and may pretend that you received permission. Also, please keep in mind that while looking at the stars can be a romantic endeavor, that is not the purpose of the observatory and any mischief may result in points being deducted or detention.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Clara Simelanu Fifth Year | Clara had just finished her supper at the Great Hall and now had a little bit of time to herself. Lingering for a moment, she walked over to a secluded corner and tried to figure out where she wanted to spend the next hour or so. Having already spent most of the day at the library, she would probably get a headache if she studied any more materials ahead of time. So that was no longer an option. Her next thought was to go back up to the Ravenclaw Common Room. That could be headache-inducing for entirely different reasons. And so, that left the one place she could be alone...or if not completely alone, at peace.
She made her way up all the staircases and found herself at the Astronomy Tower, a very familiar space since she was always so close to it - both emotionally and physically. Knowing the policy about the observatory, and knowing that curfew wasn't for a while, Clara waltzed past the offices and found the observatory itself; this is what she came here for.
Ever since Clara was a small child, she was not drawn to nature. She was drawn to the indoors. After all, that was where the books and musical instruments were. It wasn't that she hated the outdoors. In fact, she found nature to be very aesthetically appealing in photographs and such. It was honestly breathtaking at times, to be honest. However, being in nature was often difficult. Either it was too hot or too humid or there were...insects. But tonight was none of those things.
As she took a seat and looked up above, the sky was considerably clear, and the stars were bright, as they always were, as they should be. There was no other student here, and seeing how vast the world truly was made her heart swell. In just a few days, Clara would be reunited with astronomy in a classroom setting, and even though she was definitely excited for that, there was something so calming about this moment. It was her and the night and nothing else.

Of course Olly liked to spend as much time with Ellery as possible. At home the triplets were almost never apart. At school he missed Colin a lot, and was still sad that he and Ellery were so far apart. He had come to terms with the separate houses things, and was definitely not as upset as he had been two terms ago when it had happened, but he still wasn't happy about it. He definitely was not happy that he had to live so far away from Ellery. She was a lot of staircases away and it was tiring to climb them all. But for her he would of course.
But they got together as much as possible. And today Olly had thought the observatory would be a nice spot to meet. It was close to Ellery's common room. Not to mention that it was pretty. Though Astronomy may not be his favorite subject he had to admit the stars were pretty cool.

She was starting to retreat into herself; she wasn't making friends as easily, and she was starting to sit in the back of the classroom in most classes. She was entering dangerous territory - she, Ellery Gwenog Borzekowski-Thomas, might be becoming -
... shy.
She needed Olly's advice. He seemed to be doing well - having friends, chatting it up, et cetera. "Hi, Olly," she greeted him, hugging him as she sat down next to him. She put her chin on his shoulder. "How's Hercules?" |

She put her chin on his shoulder. "How's Hercules?" Olly didn't know how much time had passed between his arrival and Ellery's. He had been distracted by looking up at the stars. He couldn't see them as well without a telescope, and he hadn't wanted to go over to that large one because, to be honest, it scared him a little. But he was perfectly content just looking at what he could see with his own two eyes.
And then there was somebody next to him. Somebody hugging him. It surprised him for just a fraction of a second before he realized it was Ellery. Then he was smiling and hugging her back. "Ellery!" He may have forgotten the actual greeting in his excitement. "He's good. I got a letter..." He had to count in his head to remember exactly when said letter had arrived. "Two days ago. Dads said he should be able to come home any day now." He beamed at that. He was so excited the crup was going to be okay, even if he wasn't able to see him for a while. "How has Gryffindor been so far?" |

Rooney would be the first to admit that his interest in Astronomy had diminished majestically since he had came to Hogwarts, but would also be the first to say he had no idea why it had. It wasn't that Roo didn't enjoy it, but he had a lot going on in terms of learning and the thing he had been reading about since he was 3 was something that lay best at the back of his mind. It wasn't in his future plans. He wouldn't need it unless he auditioned for a part in a space-based play, and even then..he bet he wouldn't actually need it. It was still a place he found solace in when he needed something quiet and familiar.
Quiet, was what he was as he joined a younger Ravenclaw -- a Miss Clara, in fact -- and sat down beside her. "Nice evening?" He thought so.
Perfect way to unwind before heading to bed with a day of classes ahead.

"Yes, a nice evening indeed. The weather is pleasant and it's not too crowded here. After being surrounded by people at the Feast and on the Hogwarts Express, this is a relaxing place to be. Do you come here often?" Clara asked the boy.
This seemed like a rather cliché thing to ask, since she was sure she had heard that exact line in about 76 different films. However, she was tired and socializing properly was never one of her biggest strengths.

In truth, he was a serial offender of just forgetting that they could come up here and honestly just how peaceful it was too. He preferred to spend that time in one of Professor Myers' pods or in the library where he had unlimited research material for his future or whatever he was planning to do in the next few days. "Do you?"

She was constantly worrying about the future or sighing about the past. But this was nice. Her mind was only zoned in on this conversation and she wasn't worried about saying something wrong.
"I suppose I do come here often. It's one of the quieter spaces here at Hogwarts, aside from the library. Except I don't think tons of people whisper loudly up here. It's usually fairly secluded. And I kinda like that, to be honest. It lets me be alone with my thoughts, you know?" Clara replied.
"Are you a fan of Astronomy, by the way?" She added.

"Are you a fan of Astronomy, by the way?" She added. "I like being left to my thoughts, too. It's an admirable trait, Miss Clara." It meant a lot to him that a person could trust their own thoughts enough to be alone with them. Enough that they could want to be alone with them instead of with other people. Rooney smiled and gave the older girl a nudge with his elbow and pointed a little more into the sky above them. "I like to think that the brighter, more isolated stars are people like us." That were good on their own. Good alone when there was such a wide range of people nearby. "Sort of. Are you?" Didn't she have exams this year? Hmm..

It was quiet in the observatory. Quiet and peaceful, and Nana couldn't help thinking that her presence was ruining the beauty of the moment.
Was that reason enough to turn around and had to bed? Unfortunately.... No. No, it was not. Sadly, all the excuses Nana had given herself over the past over had fallen through leaving her with only one option. She would have to meet James Draper per his request.
Simply no way about it.
She was trapped, absolutely and completely trapped. There was no other reason at all, and she most certainly didn't want to see him.
Ridiculous notion.
Nana tucked back a lock of her dark hair as she looked out one of the large glass windows. Ten minutes, she'd only stay ten minutes.

It was the least Airey could do seeing as the man wanted him to watch over Gryffindor tower for the weekend. You're welcome, SpaceMan. Xoxo, James Draper.
As a student, James had made sure to periodically sneak up here (as he definitely skipped most of his Astronomy classes and never made it up here otherwise). But... Now that Airey Flamsteed owned the place... It was to be avoided. Which is why this was the perfect weekend for a trip up. Spaceman was gone and there was hardly anyone to avoid.
And seeing how it'd be incredibly lonely otherwise... Ah, "I was worried you wouldn't show," he said with a smirk that indicated he had no doubt that she would would. Walking towards her, he held out a single rose. She liked her Valentines-Gnome-Gram, yeah? Heh.

Turning her head over her lithe shoulder, Nana watched as James Draper sauntered into the room like a cat drunk off cream and it's own ego.
"I almost didn't." She replied, hoping to dampen that perpetual smirk of his. Arms folded over her chest, Nana turned to face him and it was then that her eyes caught sight of the rose he held. she raised an eyebrow. "And what's this? Is it poison maybe? Charmed to make me spill embarrassing secrets?" surely it couldn't just be a rose, this had to be a device for her downfall. Decidedly, she did not take the rose, it seemed as untrustworthy as the man offering it to her.

It was as if James hadn't even registered Nana's comment. They both knew very well that she would never have passed up the opportunity. So the attempt to dampen that perpetual smirk went to waste. She'd have to try harder than that. "She doesn't like flowers," he noted though he was quite sure it wasn't all flowers that she didn't like. Probably just those given to her by James Draper. Fair enough though. He'd take the hit. "Don't think I'd need to use a poision to get you to do that," he flashed her a grin. He could definitely charm secrets out of her without needing the extra help of a potion. Charming people was one of his many talents.
However, he was disappointed. Aside from a 'romantic' gesture, the rose was meant to allude to his valentine... Which he hoped would get under her skin. As he very much liked picking at her nerves. Though instead of showing signs of frustration, she only showed suspicion. Interesting. He'd have to work harder then. And he intended to, by the way.

| Pet Space Rock Extra Credit Post 2 Teapot Occamy| gryphons&giraffes&goats,OH MY | chaser of the truth | flutiful❧ Penelope had been spending a lot of time studying for final exams and NEWTs recently, but tonight she was taking a break from studying. This trip to the observatory would be more focused on stargazing with her pet rocks, although she did have plans for doing some revision for exams. After laying a fuzzy blue blanket down on the floor, Penelope arranged the three pet rocks on the blanket and sat down facing them. "Petra, meet Luna and Aquila. Luna and Aquila, meet Petra." Her next words were aimed at Petra. "Aquila really belongs to Lady Helena, but because she's a ghost and can't take care of Aquila herself, I take care of Aquila. Luna is mine, and she's named for the moon because she sort of looks like a full moon and Luna is the Latin word for moon. They are rocks that come from the Earth." Picking up the three rocks, she held them up to the window so that their googly eye faces could look out up at the sky. "You, Petra, come from space. Once part of a meteoroid that mostly burned up in Earth's atmosphere as a meteor, leaving you, a meteorite, on Earth's surface." Penelope was reviewing astronomy by teaching her pet rocks. Explaining it to others was a wonderful way to remember things. "Earth is just one small planet in a system of planets orbiting a star that we call the sun, which is just a small part of the Milky Way Galaxy, one of many other galaxies in a universe that is so large that it's difficult for us here on Earth to comprehend the enormous size of the universe. Some of the stars that we can see are thousands of light years away, so by the time that the light has reached Earth, the star might not exist anymore. We see the light of the star as it was years ago. There are closer stars though, like our sun. The sun is what we call one astronomical unit away from the Earth. One astronomical unit is 149.6 million kilometers. That seems like a large distance, but on an astronomical scale it's not very far. Earth is close enough to the sun to be warm and habitual, but not all of the planets are. Mercury and Venus are closer to the Sun and get really hot on the side of the planet facing the sun. Planets further out like Neptune that don't get as much heat energy from the sun are really cold. Those planets are just parts of our solar system. There are lots of other stars visible from Earth, and if you look at them you can see patterns that we call constellations. A lot of constellations are ones that were recognized by the Ancient Greeks, but there are also some modern constellations. Most of the Greek ones are associated with myths." Astronomy for Pet Rocks 101. "Aquila is named after a constellation that's supposed to look like an eagle."

"No, I love flowers." Nana corrected, watching James wilt just like a dying rose might. Before collecting himself with far too much ease. She wondered if it was practice or natural skill, ether way she would never admit to being impressed. at least not out loud."yet again, you prove how different our opinions and perceptions tend to be, James." She moved back a step, unconsciously needing to further their distance.
There. A professional distance.
"I was surprised to find that left the tower to you to watch... I didn't think you were getting on." That was an understatement, anyone could see how much James loathed the Astronomer, Airey for his part didn't seem to feel the same, but it was an odd thing to let a man you knew hated you watch something you so dearly loved.
Had Nana questioning things.

Had Nana questioning things. "Well then I'm offended," he feigned placing a hand over his heart. "She likes flowers, but won't take my rose." Of course he wasn't at all offended, not outwardly anyways. Curious though, yes. It seemed every time he walked into a room with her he was made to start all over again. Earn her trust from the very beginning. It was exhausting, especially on those occasions where he made it so far and then had to start right back from square one immediately following. "I disagree," he said, taking a step forward to balance the distance she had so calculatedly furthered. Whatever game they were playing, he intended to win. "Despite his shortcomings, Airey is at least sensible enough to know that I would do the job best," he smirked. That or the man had run out of options. But neither here nor there. Now enough about the Astronaut, James didn't come up here to talk about that catastrophe.

Now enough about the Astronaut, James didn't come up here to talk about that catastrophe. "No, you aren't." Nana flippantly replied, a tone she saved special for the Creatures Professor. Hardly anyone ever managed to ruffle Nana's feathers (perhaps Haddie Denaker, /perhaps/ Ryu-kun/) with the ease in which he managed. But if that was the case, and if she hated him so much, than why was a smile threatening her lips? And why, oh why had she decides to take his invitation? These were questions Nana Ichihara didn't have the answer to and it was unsettling.
"Do you? Why am I not surprised?" She muttered, almost speaking to herself more than her companion. She took another step back, and then another, all the time unaware that she was leading herself into a corner. The witch laughed with disbelief and some genuine amusement as James preened himself, naturally he was unable to resist the chance to compliment himself, even if appeared if it meant giving some credence to Airey Flamsteed. "Well.... I must admit, James. You.... are one of the better suited for the job." He'd shown, time and again a keen sense of responsibility and though she was a bit loath to admit it... She could respect him for that. "..... Why did you ask me here?" Nana asked, suddenly too curious to stop herself.
