With all the carefully laid plans and the work that had gone into the leadership event, Gideon was glad that the day was finally here. And that things seemed to be slowly returning back to normal. Friends and housemates were unfrozen and recovering and classes, quidditch and other activities were happening as the calendar pages turned into the blustery month of February.

Bundled up to keep warm, the Gryffindor prefect stationed himself by the kite-skating station. This was the area that he would be overseeing with his two partners for the event, the boy wandering around putting the finishing touches on everything as they were awaiting their fellow students to arrive for the fun.

Skating was cool, no pun intended. Kimalia liked the cold weather for only one reason.. the cute clothing everyone gets to wear, of course! That's why she got to help, hehe. Oh, and it was nice getting a breath of fresh air from all the vigorous studying, and hosting those crazy Quidditch practices. Yep, yep. She was bundled up and everything, only thing missing was her wonderful scarf that she gave Professor Vindictus after he collapsed, but it was his now and she hoped he was taking good care of it.

Oh yeah, guess Kimalia better get the skates and stuff ready for everyone. "So," Kimalia said, as she stood nearby the Gryffindor Prefect. "Flew any good kites lately?" Nothing like a small talk to pass time before people needed them.

Ah there was the Slytherin Captain.

The younger girl bundled up much the way he was. It had seemed just a tad off during the planning stage that Kite Flying Day was during a month where it was likely cold and not always conducive for flying a kite...the more windy March or even sometime during the fall seeming more likely a choice. But obviously someone down the line had thought February was a perfect fit.

"Nae...can't say that I have." He had been meaning to test out one or two beforehand but with their latest quidditch match fast approaching, and Selina wanting them well prepared, practices had taken up his free time. "What about ye?"

Oh, yes! The day had finally arrived. Or rather, a another cold day had arrived.

The Prefect skipped down to her station, bundled up in layers of warm clothing. Obviously, she didn't want to risk getting sick..especially when the NEWT's were getting closer and closer..GULP.

With her hands tucked deep in the pockets of her coat, she spotted the other two Prefects already stationed behind the kite-skating station. The Hufflepuff hurried down the rest of the way before she finally reached the station. "Hey, guys!" Evelyn smiled at them before she stood next to Gideon. "Sorry..I guess I'm a little late." She only had herself to blame for taking ages to get ready.

"So..you guys ready?" 'Cause, she totally was.

Ronnie giggled, hugging her kite close to her chest as she skipped down to the lake, ready for whatever was going on down there.

Sarah really could not wait to go kite-skating. She waited impatiently by the lake, her kite in hand.

Gideon turned as they were joined by another pair of footsteps, spotting the third member of their trio arrived at the station. His fellow prefect winding up taking up a position by his one side, appologetic about her late arrival. He glanced at his watch and noticed it was still around when they were supposed to be there and the captain and he hadn't been there long themselves. "Hey...nae its alright," he greeted before waving off the appology. It wasn't like it was that big of a deal and they weren't bogged down with students needing help at the moment.

"Aye...as ready as can be," he mused with a one-armed shrug. When his arm was lowered, the Gryffindor sixth year spotted first one and then another s of his younger housemates. "Looks like we have our first takers." With that said, Gideon moved closer to the two lion cubs.

"Hey guys, welcome to kite-skating! If ye have any questions, feel free to ask one of us," he greeted, motioning to Kimalia and Eve just in case they didn't catch who he was tlaking about. Though it wasn't like there was anyone else around. "For now, first things first, ye need to decide if you would like to use ice skates or a sled."

"Skates for me please" said Sarah. "What are the chances of the ice on the lake cracking and us falling through?" asked Sarah, anxiety crossing her face.

Gideon nodded and retrieved a pair of ice skates from where they had been stashed. They were magiked to fit perfectly so one didn't have to worry about asking about sizes and such like that. "Here ye go," he said holding them out for the first year and listening as she voiced a question of concern.

"Not very likely if at all," the prefect assured her. "There are all sorts of charms in place to insure that the ice stays frozen solid for as long as it needs to be." The groundskeeper had assured them of that as they planned for the event. It wouldn't do to have any emergencies that they could prevent in any way. "Here...why don't I hold yer kite while you put the skates on." There were benches around for just that purpose.

Sarah took the skates and handed the prefect her kite and went to the nearest bench where she put them on. She loved the fact that they fitted her so well automatically, no need for her to reveal her embarressing shoe size - which was so small. Sarah got up and a smile spread across her face -so this is what it was liket o be tall. She hated being soo short. "Thank Merlin, sorry I tend to be paranoid. Thanks for holding my kite -now what next", said Sarah announcing her rearrival.

Jezzabelle took her rather weird looking bright pink kite over to the kite skating station. She loved to ice skate and it would be minimal work with her kite to pull her along. She smiled at Gideon and the other two who seemed to be in charge and stood on the edge of the lake. She should have grabbed her own ice skates but she hadn't realized that they would've come in handy.

Evelyn watched with a smile as Gideon helped out a kid. Heh. Her gaze shifted towards the frozen lake and she couldn't help but sigh a little. Hm, maybe she'd get to ice-skate once she was finished with her duties behind the station, yes? Hopefully.

It wasn't long before another student walked upto the station, carrying a rather pretty-looking kite. "Hey there!" Evelyn smiled at the girl, before she nodded towards the kite in the girl's hand. "It's a nice kite you've got there."

After flashing her another smile, Evelyn continued, "So, are you going to be skating or sledding today?" Evelyn always prefered skating though. It was just way more fun. Heh.

Jezzabelle smiled and clutched her kite, "Hi." She looked down at her kite and gave a smile of appreciation, "Thanks." She wished it was a little more fancy but she was in a rush to fly it.

She looked over the lake and said, "I'd like to skate."

Accepting the kite, Gideon absently gave it a once over as the girl took care of her skates. He spotted Jezzabelle arrive at their station and returned her smile with on of his own before turning his full attention back to the girl he was helping. "Well have ye ever flown a kite before?" It might have seemed stupid to ask that now but seeing as their level of experience in that respect would help tell him what type of assistance he might need to give, he asked it anyway.

"Kite skating isn't that much different then simple kite flying," Gideon commented guiding her to the frozen lake's absolute edge." Ye're just not gonna dig in and try and stay in one place, ye're gonna use the wind's pull of the kite to propel you across the ice. Why don't ye step onto the lake and then take the kite strings from me once yer settled." He in turn would hold the actual kite until she was ready to skate.

Sarah nodded eagerly and headed for the lake. Right foot first, she glided on the ice, feeling as if she had no care in the world. The wind breezed past her and a big smile spread across her face. Shetried some tricks spinning her, skating backwards there. Finally she went back to the prefect and asked for her kite back;

Good...her nod meant that she had indeed flown a kite before or at least that was what he was taking it as. "Great..." Gideon said keeping his place on the edge of the ice as he watched the girl do a few moves on the frozen lake to seemingly get her skating legs before returning to his side. "Here ye go then....have fun," the prefect handing over the kite as requested, the movement leaving it all in the first year's hands.

Sarah took the kite from him (Gideon) and set out on an adventure. She dug her feet ionto the ice andheld on tight and weee she was off with the wind to guide her.
