| | How Canada got Potter The Ottawa Citizen today contains an article on how Raincoast Books nabbed the rights to the books by J.K. Rowling.
The CEO of the company, Allan MacDougall, explains how he went from high-school drop-out to such a successful career and how he came to meet Ms. Rowling. Quote:
One person who is unlikely to be in tears this fall will be Mr. MacDougall, who won't divulge what he sees as the prospects of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but to put it mildly, with a rumoured initial Canadian print run of 1.2 million copies (10.8 million in the U.S.) of the $41 book, things look good.
The article can be read in its entirety here.

Good question. Is that the implication? Does he just have rights in Canada?

He has the right to publish the book. Just like Scholastic has the rights to publish in the US.

Hogwarts RPG Name: November {Noe} Franze First Year | Brain Twin | MASTAH ASHURRII | Reisdent PokeNerd | Digifangirl Yes, but is 41 dollars Canadian the same as 41 dollars American? You have to look at that. It'd be pretty awesome to have rights to publish the books, though. Think about that. That's a lot of money right there. Plus, seeing as you're publishing it, you might possibly get sneaky peaks at it |

Hogwarts RPG Name: November {Noe} Franze First Year | Brain Twin | MASTAH ASHURRII | Reisdent PokeNerd | Digifangirl We got it 17.99 US Dollars, but I have no idea how that translates to other money, really. Some places are selling it at like 20.99 US Dollars too. |

Certain bookstores where I live sold them cheaper than others. Still. No matter what. Publishing those books means you are getting a LOT of money o.O |
