Stellar performances by Matt Smith and Karen Gillan headline the fifth season of
Doctor Who, now available on DVD, just in time for the holidays. Karen Gillan plays Amy Pond, who becomes The Doctor’s companion after a chance meeting with the time traveler when she was a child in the midst of World War II London. The Doctor, true to form, keeps his word to show Pond the mysteries of the universe by coming back for her once she’s grown up a bit. Episodes filled with vampires, lizards, freaky angel statues and, of course, Daleks, ensue.
Matt Smith steps up to the plate as the new Doctor - witty, charming and reckless as ever. Likewise, saucy Karen Gillan does an outstanding job as a mini skirt-wearing 60s’ pistol Amy Pond. The Blu-ray set contains five discs of 13 episodes, plus an extra disc which has “Meanwhile in the Tardis” and “Doctor Who Confidential” features detailing each episode, along with outtakes, commentary, teasers and trailers. There is also a nifty set of three exclusive art cards and the 3-D packaging rocks.
Special features include:
- Meanwhile in the Tardis: Additional scenes
- Doctor Who Confidential: An inside look at each episode
- Monster Files: A three-part video diary delving into The Doctor’s adversaries
- In-vision commentaries and outtakes
- More than 20 teasers and trailers
- Video diaries
