Video: Mark Williams talks Harry Potter Studio Tour’s new Hogwarts Express expansion
Earlier this month, during our preview of the Hogwarts Express and Platform 9 3/4 expansion at Warner Bros Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter, SnitchSeeker got the chance to speak with Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley) about his thoughts on the expansion, including his favorite exhibit and what he’d like to see added in the future.
SnitchSeeker: You’ve had a chance to see the new expansion. What’s your favourite part of it?
Mark Williams: That (points to Hogwarts Express). The large item there. The large iron item, which is a brilliant thing to see.
SnitchSeeker: Have you had a chance to go on the Hogwarts Express?
Mark Williams: Well, I’ve driven a few steam engines, but not this one.
SnitchSeeker: If you could keep one item from the exhibition what would it be?
Mark Williams: I quite like the buffet car at the moment. That might be a good idea.
I was always a bit upset that I never had a go in my car. I was always talking to other people about it, and ticking the boss off about using it. But I was a big upset. So if I could go back in time, I think I’d like to have a go in the car.
SnitchSeeker: You’ve been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park in America. How does that compare to what is here in England at the exhibition?
Mark Williams: The theme park in Orlando is obviously for me, not the same as this because this is where we filmed. These are the real props, the real sets, the real locomotive – so it’s very evocative. Remember it was work (laughs). There was an element of having to go. There was a 12-hour element to it.
SnitchSeeker: You’ve spent so much time working on the films. Is there anything else you think they should add to the exhibition?
Mark Williams: I can’t really think of anything. I mean, the only other possibility is having one of the outside sets, maybe to show people how a scenic set is made because it’s all one dimensional with a scaffold in the back. Is Grimmauld Place here? It might be interesting to see Grimmauld Place because you’ve got the facia of the buildings, then all scaffold behind and I think that might make people realize that you’ve really got to use your imagination as an actor.
SnitchSeeker: Is there anything of Arthur Weasley’s that you think should be in the tour?
Mark Williams: His car, as I said. I can’t think of anything else. The Ministry’s too big. You never saw his office. Presumably he had an office. Maybe that might’ve been interesting, but that wasn’t in the film so, hey, it’s not gonna happen.
SnitchSeeker is covering the launch of the new expansion this Tuesday, which Williams, along with Warwick Davis and James and Oliver Phelps attended. More to come on that throughout the week.
