The fourth floor is the quietest floor in all of Hogwarts. Those who have been here long enough and know the layout know this as an obvious fact because the primary features of this floor are the Library and Study Hall. To soften your steps as you make your way around, a carpet drapes the entire floor of the corridor. Remember to keep your voice at a whisper because there's important studying going on in this part of the castle!
You will find large green vases placed in the corners of the corridor as well as a number of portraits. There really isn't anything exciting about the vases, though Peeves is known to pick them up and throw them at unsuspecting passersby -- it is strongly advised that you always stay alert. As for the portraits, you will likely notice right away that most of them are of peaceful landscapes. Nevertheless, you will eventually come across Brutus Scrimgeour (author of The Beaters' Bible), Hengist of Woodcraft (founder of Hogsmeade), and Edward Rabnott (a wizard with three different personalities).

Valencia always enjoyed the walk to the library. Sometimes she even took the long way around to stop and look at the portraits. She did enjoy landscapes. These were no Monets, but they did have a peaceful look about them.
They put her in the mood, the study mood.
Of course, most things made her in the mood to study, so maybe these were really nothing special. She'd continue pretending though. Art was important to appreciate.

Alexandre did not generally enjoy going to the library. But that didn't mean he didn't like reading in general. He actually did enjoy reading a lot, when he was reading adventure novels. Not when he was reading textbooks. But he was also a fifth year, which meant OWLs, which meant studying, which meant he was in the library more often than he would have really liked. Today he had promised himself that if he studied for two hours then he could have a reward. What exactly that reward would be he hadn't decided yet. Maybe some ice cream.
Along his way to the library he came across a familiar face. Someone who he was not surprised to see on the way to the library. "Valencia! Hi!" He turned his gaze to what she was looking at. A painting. It was... pretty, but art didn't really excite him. It was just there.

Aboli HAD been on her way up to the Great Hall, but halfway there, she forgot why she was heading up, headed back to her dorm, then figured she might as well visit the owls. They were probably quit restless, poor things. It was on her way that she happened to see one of her best friends AND one the nicest friends she had - Valencia and Alexandre! "OH hey guys!" she said with a grin. "Fancy seeing you here." Was Val looking at the paintings again?
"OooooOoooh what are you looking at?" she asked, reaching up towards the painting...noting...just so, that they all looked translucent. It wasn't a recent occurrence...it was more...gradual. But she hadn't voiced her opinions about this new development aloud until she was reminded of it, seeing her hand like that. "So....my lifelong dream of becoming a ghost is fulfilled. Clearly."

Valencia turned when she heard Alexandre. She offered him a small smile. "Hey. Heading to the library?" She figured he must be. Yay for OWL year. (Assuming they were still having exams.)
Oh. There was Aboli. Perfect timing.
"Didn't realize that was something that was on your list." she said with an amused smile.

Alexandre cast a quick glance around him at Valencia's question. Why was he here? This was the floor the library was one so... that made sense. So he nodded slowly. "Yeah, library, I have to finish the Potions assignment... I think." Or had he done that already? Oh well, he'd figure it out when he got to the library.
And then they were joined by someone else. A friendly someone else! Alexandre smiled at Aboli when she approached. "Hi Aboli!" He laughed a little because she had said clearly. Clearly. Like because they were becoming clear, get it? Anyway. "I can't say it's really something I had been hoping for myself."

Aboli hoooooked arms with both of them, swooping in between them, and started walking. "Heading to the library, then? Maybe we can HELP with your potions, Alexandre," she said with a nod. "It's on my list," she replied to Val, "But I was hoping I'd live a loooong life first, then die, THEN become a ghost," she chuckled as they continued on.
"Also, I was hoping the afterlife wouldn't be so...boring and forgetful. I guess I'm glad we're not real ghosts because we can still eat." And foooood was good.
"SO...how is everyone's day going? Any new things happening?"

Valencia nodded. Yeah, that made sense to her. Really why else would anyone be on this floor. It also made sense to her that Aboli wanted to be a ghost some day.
She was mildly interested in that as well. IMAGINE BEING ABLE TO LEARN FOREVER!
Suddenly they were walking. She smiled to herself, having friends was nice. "Maybe you ought to keep a journal with checklists and schedules. That's what I've done."
She then considered Aboli's question. "I think my day has been average. I didn't have any new notes to myself in my book so I don't think it's been particularly memorable."
Not that anything was particularly memorable these days.
