| | Dungeon Corridor After descending a narrow spiral staircase accessed through a door on the left side of the Entrance Hall, you can immediately sense a change in temperature. In spite of the numerous torches that are scattered along the stone corridor, the warmth emitting from the flames isn't enough to keep those goosebumps at bay. Movement is your best source of heat down here, so you had best keep on walking forward at a brisk pace.
Going further down the long, gloomy stone corridor branches off to a web of more corridors that are just as long and even gloomier. Portraits depicting the most esteemed pure-bloods of the past adorn these walls. Some are covered with cobwebs, but others will follow your every move with judgmental eyes -- if you are not of a worthy blood status or a Slytherin for that matter, many of these portraits will shout out snide comments at you. Pay no attention to them, however; you have better places to be and things to do, such as exploring the underground chambers or attending Potions class.

It had been her first-night int he castle and though it went well she was down in the Dungeon bright and early. She didn't mind the whole sleeping with strangers in the girl's dorm thing, but she missed home already and she didn't like that her brother was in the same castle and so far away. It should be against all rules to put a big brother who was put on the earth just to protect and play with his little siblings that far away.
Looking around the corridor she wasn't sure where the snake common room was or how to get in, so instead of just leaving Chloe decided she would sit in the middle of the corridor wrapped in her blanket with Teacup on her lap and wait for him.
As the other students walked by to head to class she gave them all smiles and waves because maybe they'd be her friend at some point, but she didn't move. No, she would be waiting there until her brother came out.

So far the only thing Lydia was not enjoying about Slytherin house was the fact its dormitories were located in the dungeon! How uninviting and the total opposite of cozy. Also, she kept getting lost. It felt like these dungeons went on forever. And the castle itself was massive. She'd almost been late to her first History of Magic lesson! Surely there was some way she could get to know the layout of the school better and not just for lessons. Lydia wasn't averse to a little adventuring. It'd be nice to explore the school and find places not many other students knew about. It'd be like her own special secret.
Lydia sighed, staring down the dank and dimly lit corridor. No one else appeared to be around at the moment. "I wish someone could just give me a tour or something," she said out loud, to no one in particular.

No, she would be waiting there until her brother came out. Gunnar had not been pleased that his sister hadn't been sorted into the same house that he was, but he had done his best to hide that fact at the feast. He didn't need her to be upset more than necessary, which she definitely would be if he wasn't reassuring. Not that he had anything against Ravenclaw, but could they be any further away from each other than one of them in the dungeons and the other up in a tower? And he was already feeling bad for Morgan being all alone with both of his siblings away at Hogwarts now.
The twelve year old was a little bit grouchy when he headed out of the common room for breakfast. He attributed that to waking up on the wrong side of the bed, but he had all of those other thoughts on his mind too that contributed to all of that as well. Eh.. he really didn't like feeling that way now that he was back here. He should be more excited, right?
He wasn't far down the corridor when he saw a small, bundled figure sitting against the wall. "Chloe...?" he questioned as he approached. "What are you doing out here?" Was she looking for him?

Tinka appeared in the Dungeon Corridor and instantly spotted a young Slytherin. "Miss Lydia look alone. Is Miss Lydia lost?" Her big pink eyes looked up a the girl and hoped she could use her help. It was far better than cleaning up in the common rooms, but not as nice as whipping up some yummy treats for the studentsies with her trusty whisk.

She turned to see one of the house elves coming toward her. She still wasn't used to how they could just appear like that from thin air. One of the other students had called it...appa...appa-something. She didn't remember.
" Oh, you startled me," she said. " But yes, I could use your help! This castle is so big. It's so easy to get lost. Would you...would you mind showing me around a little bit? I hope that's not too much to ask. You're probably very busy. By the way, what's your name? I don't think I've met you before!"
Lydia studied the tiny elf with kind eyes. Coming from the muggle world, she had no idea other races even existed, let alone elves. From what she'd read in books, elves were either little Santa's helpers or tall and regal like in The Lord of the Rings. Hogwarts house elves were not really like either one of those. But from the first time she'd met one in the entrance hall on September 1st, Lydia had liked the gentle creatures. They were so kind and helpful all the time. She wondered why they were stuck cleaning up and cooking food and doing other such chores around the castle.

Her big eyes looked up at the young Slytherin. "Tinka not try scare Miss Lydia. Tinka likies to helps." She walked closer to the girl "Tinka is who house elf be" she gave a little bow. "Tinka knows all the Hogwarts." She pointed all around her and smiled. "Tinka can show Miss Lydia. Did Miss Lydia bring her whisk?"
She reached down and carefully untied her whisk from the makeshift shoestring belt around her waist. She never went anywhere without her whisk. Holding the whisk in her right hand, she waved it at the walls. "Some wallsies have passage. Tinka show Miss Lydia corridor first." |

"It's nice to meet you, Tinka," said Lydia. "Er, no, I don't have a whisk. Do you mean my wand?"
Lydia withdrew her yew wand from her pocket to show the house elf. "It's almost as good as a whisk, right? And do you mean some of the walls have secret passages? That's brilliant!"
Lydia followed the little house elf, her excitement growing. This tour was going to be amazing, she just knew it, and maybe she'd learn something none of her fellow first years knew about so she could impress them with her new knowledge of the castle.

Tinka shook her head a bit. None of the studentsies ever had whisks. "Wand do work, whisk be better." She made her way a little further down the corridor and paused, she faced a portrait of one particularly stern looking man and tapped her whisk on the bottom left corner three times. "Like Tinka, Miss Lydia."
She stood to the side and waited for Miss Lydia to tap the bottom of the portrait, knowing that when she did, the portrait would slide to the side, opening up a very dark passageway. It wasn't that she didn't like the Dungeon Corridor, she would just rather not be in the cold, dark, place when she could be warm and toasty.

Getting up the little blonde moved closer to him and let the kitten walk beside her. "I was looking for you, I couldn't find your common room opening and I couldn't get in if I did, so I thought maybe I could just sit here and watch for you." She didn't mind sitting there even though the Dungeons were scarier than the rest of the castle. "I wanted to have breakfast with you, that's allowed isn't it?" She still hated being in a different house then her brother, but hopefully they could still do things together like eat breakfast. "You do want to eat breakfast with me, right?"

She approached the portrait and tapped the bottom left corner three times with her wand. All of a sudden the portrait began to slide to the side. Lydia stepped back and watched with amazement as a new corridor was revealed.
" Wow, I didn't know that was there at all," she said excitedly. " Where does it go, Tinka?"

She was also pleased that she was able to show her something she didn't know about. Stepping past Miss Lydia, she entered the pitch black corridor and waved the girl forward with the end of her whisk. "Miss Lydia follow Tinka. " Tinka quickly turned and headed into the passageway, not looking back to see if the youngster was behind her. The passageway was narrow enough that there was no fear of turning the wrong way or getting lost. One could only follow the path.

Gunnar looked from his sister as she got up to the little kitten on the floor next to her. He sort of figured as much, unless she had gone exploring already and was taking a break. "You should have asked someone to come get me. I would have come out sooner." Because yeah, even if she would have found the entrance, she couldn't have just gotten in.
Oh, breakfast was good, and he nodded happily, feeling in a slightly better mood. "Yeah, of course... yes and yes." That was a yes to both questions. "I'm hungry... and you can sit at my table if you want." He did sit at her table for a little bit last night after she was sorted, so he hoped she realized that was okay.

She was glad she had found her brother and that he was now going to be with her for part of the morning. This castle was super big and super scary, she was afraid of getting lost and never finding her way back. "Well I didn't want to inconvenience anyone and thought you would come out soon anyway, so Teacup and I have just been out here waving at people. " It was quite fun to wave at people, "Everyone has been so super nice here." Everyone she had encountered at least. "Okay, lets head that way." Feeling her stomach growl she was ready for some food and maybe just some time to get used to everything. "Do we have classes together? Do we have free time together? Are we going to have to compete against each other?" So many questions were going through her mind, she tried not to ask every single question, but it was hard and she knew Gunnar wouldn't mind them all.

Gunnar shrugged a little and started walking, leading her out of the dungeons. "It's not an inconvenience if they're going into the same common room anyway. It's more of an inconvenience for you to just sit out here indefinitely." He knew Chloe was friendly enough to anyone, but she could stand to be a little assertive too. Didn't matter much now because he was here.
She had a lot of questions and that was fine. Gunnar remembered what it was like for him last year when he started and didn't know much of anything. Chloe was lucky though. He didn't have an older sibling to lead the way, but he could guide her now. "Most of the classes we won't have together. Sometimes they'll have a big group class, but usually you'll just be with your year." It was a good way to get to know some of your yearmates though and otherwise it was sometimes good to learn from the older students when that opportunity came about. "I'm sure we'll both have the same amount of free time, especially the weekends." He was also sure she'd make her own friends, but he was glad that she was here now so that they could at least spend some time together. Even though he had made friends, last year felt a little lonely without his siblings. "What do you mean compete against each other?"

She didn't see why it mattered if she asked someone to get him or just waited. Having fun sitting there and people watching didn't bother Chloe in the slightest. So she just shrugged her brother off, "Next time I'll ask, okay?" If it would make him happy she would do that from now on, though she might just hang out in the corridor anyway.
Most of the classes they wouldn't have together, well this was a bummer, Chloe was hoping to get to use the help of her brother whenever she got lost or if she needed him, but she would be fine, she knew that. If it was everyone in her year she wouldn't feel too dumb around them. "Oh, well I guess that's good then, I mean you wouldn't want to be bored learning things over that I need to learn." Thinking about it she wanted to say maybe he could teach her what he was learning, but she figured it would be too hard at this point. "So you'll hang out with me even though you have friends to hang out with?" Chloe knew she'd make friends, but he was her brother so he would spend time with her for that reason alone she hoped. "I mean like quidditch and this house cup thing. So we are competing against each other." She loved competing, but against Gunnar at school? That would be weird.

"Okay," Gunnar nodded and shoved his hands in his pockets as they continued to walk, considering the subject closed. There were plenty of other things to talk about anyway as demonstrated by Chloe's questions. "Yeah, I hope not," he said, thinking about their periodic combined classes. "Maybe it will be like a review." He didn't really know considering his only experience with that was last year when he needed to learn everything anyway, but he hoped that it would be learning more things rather than reviewing old things that the new students had yet to learn. But a review might not be all bad. "Yeah, of course... You can meet my friends and I'm sure you'll make some of your own friends anyway." He and Chloe had always been fairly close; he didn't see that changing now, though he still was rather unimpressed that they hadn't been sorted into the same house. That might make it a little harder. Oh. "Yeah, our houses will be competing for the house cup and the Quidditch cup. But they really aren't that big of a deal. Some people make a big deal about points and stuff, but most people don't." He personally thought it a little stressful, but his house did win the cup last year so he probably wasn't the best to ask about it.
