The Fireplace is a restful area to come and study and take a load off in the library. Sit back and let the flames soothe away your stresses from all the homework you have this year. The fireplace has been charmed to let out a LOUD IRRITATING RINGING noise if anyone gets close to the flames! Everyone will know what you have done.
You can look but don't touch kiddos. Mr. Kennedy would prefer to make it out of this term with all of his books intact, thank you very much.
The lull of the fire might make one slightly dozy, and while no one will wake you up if you drift off, don't say you weren't warned if you wake up and your hair is pink, or purple or blue with yellow stripes.. you get the jist.
A Librarian has got to have some fun sometime!
WHAT'S THIS!?
OOC: With permission from Mr Kennedy (MunchyBubbles)
It took Aymeric a matter of moments to enter the library. He adored this place. He loved the warmth of the library, it made him feel happy. He frequently comes here not to study but to draw, and let his imagination burst upon paper.
But he was here for a different reason this morning. He hadn't come to draw or lend a book, but, surprisingly, came because of... ughhh... Potions. Nevertheless he was grateful he doesn't need to be in those dungeons for the next twenty-five minutes.
So fireseeds need fire, right? Well an ever flaming fire is located in the library's fireplace. Hopefully.
The Ravenclaw was pleased with himself when he spotted the flaming plant in the fireplace. Since he was the first person here, he felt even a little proud.
Now, to the harvesting. Firstly protective gloves - he doesn't want to burn himself right at the beginning of term, that would be embarrassing. He wrapped the eye-gear around his forehead, it would hold his hair up and he felt secure enough that the fire won't harm his eyes - he was a cautious boy.
Now to the magic. He held out the metal bucket and took out his white wand. He performed the harvest of fireseeds previously and luckily seen his mother do so as well. She sold the ingredient at her shop. He casted, in his opinion perfectly, the Chaudensis Charm at the bucket. It was nicely heated now.
The third year neared himself towards the fireplace and the plant and began plucking carefully, as required, five seeds. Quite simple. He successfully placed three fireseeds in his nicely heated bucket, he was beginning to feel a bit comfortable with actions maybe a bit too much.
While stretching his hand to grab another seed a... LOUD IRRITATING RINGING... was heard all across the library. Probably the whole floor heard it. "Oh no," he whimpered to himself. Before thinking another moment he snatched the needed fireseeds, but now what?
He wanted to run away and this would all be a school mystery, but he would most likely be caught. Aymeric froze at his place not moving at all. What is he going to do? He didn't do anything wrong! Why wasn't there a warning?!
The young Ravenclaw just stood there motionless, redness appearing on his face and he looked petrified as if a dragon was right next to him. Oh dear.

Kalen was organizing some shelves in the back of the library, making sure they had room for some of the new books he wanted to stock when suddenly a very loud ringing noise went off in the library, disturbing the carefully cultivated quiet the Librarian had going on here!
"For the love of Merlin!" The Professor muttered under his breath as he moved hurriedly towards the fireplace, hoping against all hope that no one was trying to burn down the place!
However when he reached the fireplace all he saw was a reddening Ravenclaw with a bucket full of.. ahh yes fireseeds. That was today? Merlin he had forgotten all about that.
With a wave of his hand the ringing stopped and he turned to smiled down at the Ravenclaw. "No need to panic Mr. Willis, I forgot this was happening today. " He said looking down at the poor boy, who looked like he might bolt with fright or pass out!
With another wave of his hand the charm was gone off the fireplace and he smiled, "There, now no one else will hear that when they come to get their fireseeds. " He said with a grin.

Red. Scared. Overwhelmed.
Aymeric, stood near the fireplace frozen for a few seconds. Suddenly, Professor Kennedy appeared. The two never had a lot of interaction, so Aymeric didn't know what to expect.
The librarian seemed calm, which helped the redness flush from the boy's face but his heart was still racing. Racing quick. It was relief (probably to all) when the ringing stopped, and without trying to catch too much attention Aymeric took a deep breathe. Everything was alright.
"Th-Thank you, sir" he said trying retrieve his 'cool'. Aymeric accepted the fact that he's emotional, but he didn't want others to know. Therefore, he knew that will need to leave soon because he might of felt tears edge his eyes.
"Well, I better get going them," he began saying releasing a small smile as a gesture of gratitude. "I'm in the middle of a Potions assignment and... er..." He nervously began walking backwards not knowing what to say. "Thank you again Professor." He turned around not knowing where to search for the next ingredients, and left the library with all the protection gear still on him. From now on he hated potions.

Fire seeds, huh? Vi had taken a gamble. She had first thought the Gryffindor Common room or every common room would have the fireseeds but decided that was not nearly a public enough place so she decided to head to the library. Turning to the curly haired boy behind her, she smiled and almost grabbed his hand."This way! Come on!" she called as she raced ahead toward the fireplace.
It was at that moment when she saw another student leaving AND Professor Kennedy. And was the boy harvesting fire seeds? Why yes, he was. The flaming plant was there too. Perfect. Just exactly what they needed. It was quiet on the library. She assumed that the crowds of students hadn't appeared yet and now was the appropriate time to strike and get ahead. Vi turned to the bucket and cast the heating charm on it to keep the seeds warm after she harvested them. Next she turned to Ace, gave him a quick thumbs up and smile, and then approached the fireplace.
With gloves on, she placed the bucket down next to her and readied her wand. Then she took a deep breath and began to slowly pick the fireseeds, gently pulling the seeds out one by one and placing them into the bucket.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy thought that the library would be the perfect place to find fire seeds. She hoped that her instincts regarding the leaves and grass reflected her current instinct about the seeds. She saw a slightly older Ravenclaw (Aymeric) departing the fireplace with the librarian. As Daisy approached the fireplace, she saw a much older Gryffindor (Olivia) already there harvesting her fire seeds.
Daisy crouched down in front of the fireplace but then paused. Was the librarian fine with her doing this? She didn't want to get into trouble.

He hadn’t told him how many they needed, or how to store them or to be careful. He frowned ever so slightly, watching the younger boy moving through the room before he sighed and guessed he would go the other way.
Shaking his head, he turned around and went looking for both the betony leaves and the stargrass plant. Hmmmm. Now,he’d been in here before… but could he remember seeing either before? He thought he had, so he moved in the opposite direction of the sunlight and hoped that he was right in saying that it was one of the plants that could grow in shade. Please be here. Please be right. He thought as he searched around the various areas of plants that Healer Reed kept up.
AHA! Grinning when he found it, he went to move to harvest --- But wait. His name was being shouted. Looking across the room, he found Beau and grinned at him. ”Well done! I’ve found the Betony. I’ll be over in a minute.”
Remy crouched down in front of the plant and decided that he would take some leaves from the bottom of the tree since it grew so well in shade. Now, how to harvest them. Betony was all about the shade, so he would need a dark container - which was fine, since he had glass ones and metal ones… and the metal one would keep the leaves fresh and out of sunlight. Rummaging in his bag, he pulled out one of them and then opened the lid before taking out a pair of clippers. If he remembered his Herbology properly, you were meant to take as much of the stem as possible soo… He held the clippers to the closest point where the leaf met the branch and snipped. And then repeated the same process five times so that he had their required 5 leaves. He instantly put the metallic lid back on to close it tight, and wrote ‘Betony’ on the lid label.
Now. Beau and the Stargrass.
He took the area in a few easy strides and grinned at Beau who was standing next to marshy type soil. Lovely. ”Amazing. Right, we were asked for 32 grams… sooo…” He knelt on the ground at Beau’s feet, and took his scales out of his bag before placing a large, clear container on the pad before setting the scales up. ”Now, Stargrass is really fragile, so lets so if we can do this quickly so it doesn’t break up.” Aiming his wand at his shears, he scourgified them so that he wouldn’t contaminate the plant, then cut off the end of one of the plants. Putting it in the dish, he watched the scale change to 11g.
Huh. Okay. He had to repeat the process five times before he got to 34g, which made him wince. Too much. That meant he wasted some of the plant. Cutting back a little, he managed to get it to 32g. Looking around at some of the few classmates who had also found the garden and the stargrass, he held the extra 2g out on his hand. ”Anyone need 2g more? I’ve cut off too much.” He really would rather not waste it…. But he also didn’t have time to waste - they still had to find the fireseeds… so if no-one took it in the next five seconds, he would leave them and move on.
Aiming his wand at the container, he charmed some water in the base of the tub unsure if it needed to still be wet and natural when they used it in the potion. Looking over at Beau, he grinned. ”Okay, two down.We need somewhere with fire for the fre seeds… but there are lots of them in the castle… so where do you think we should look first?
Had Beau had a really great attention span, he would have probably paid attention to what Remy had been doing in Healer Professor Dog Guy's garden place. He would probably need that another time, but ANYWAY he had been too busy thinking about fire and wanting to go FIND THE FIRE and do all of the cool things that were physically possible with magic and fire and wooooOOOOOOOOOOO. When they were all done there though, Beau had been CERTAIN of one thing! That the fireseeds or whatever were going to be in the Gryffindor Common Room and he was going to have to play HERO and save them ALLLLLL FROM THE FIIIIIIIIIIIRE.
Pity.
The long old walk to the tower had been for nothing and the first year was definitely affected by being THE WRONGEST OF THE WRONG.
They'd stopped at a few other places that Remy had suggested and Beau was slowly getting more and more annoyed with how BAD they were doing at this. THEY WERE ON A BLINKING TIME LIMIT AND THEY WERE STUCK SULKING AROUND THE CASTLE WITHOUT FIRE. WITH. OUT. FIRE. Somewhere along the way, the topic of the fireplace in the library had been brought into play and Beau had just headed that way out of courtesy.
He needed a new seventh year.
This one was not useful.
HOWEVER THEY WERE GREETED WITH THE BEST BUSH OF FIRE WOOOOOOOOOW. Beau-ey GASPED LOUDLY and pointed a wiggling finger in the direction of the bush and other students approaching it. "THIS IS SO DANGEROUS AND SO COOL" What if a book set fire?! Could he try it?! Was it magic fire that didn't hurt the books?! Is that why it was here?! SO MANY QUESTIONS.
Instead, he stepped behind Remy and tried his absolute best to push push PUSH the older (and much bigger) boy in the right direction. "We gottA BE FIRST BACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK, REMY!!!!!!!!!! DO. YOUR. STUFF." And ask for help if he needed it. Although Beau wasn't sure how much help he would be when he couldn't even manage basic spells yet.

Apparently as soon as Remy had mentioned fire, there was only one fire that Beau would believe Healer Reed would have used. The Gryffindor Common Room fire. Well, it was as likely as anywhere else, except for the fact that three quarters of the class wouldn’t be able to get into the room to harvest the seeds. However, Beau had been adamant, and since that meant they were on the top floor, Remy figured they could hunt the fireplaces on the way back down to the Potions lab. If they still had enough time.
However, when they finally made it to the library, the grin on his face was wide and real. ”Yeah, we got shown how to harvest them in Herbology a few years ago. If you put your gloves on, you can help me harvest them, okay? It’ll be very warm to touch, but it won’t burn you if you follow my lead. Okay?”
While Beau got his gloves on, Remy took out the second metallic container he had in bag, along with his gloves. ”Now, we learnt that the seeds have to be kept on fire so the way you store them is really important.” He wasn’t sure if Beau was even listening, but he felt better at least trying to include him. ”There is a charm to heat up the container so the seeds stay on fire. It is called Chadensis, and you just twist your twist ever so slightly - but its a very soft motion.” He glanced at Beau, before casting the charm on his container, which he let rest on his glove so he wouldn’t feel the heat.
”Okay, and to actually pick the seeds, all we need to do is reach into the fire and grip them gently, and pull then put them straight in here.” He motioned to the heated container in his hand. ”We need 5 of them, they are easy to pluck.” The Hufflepuff said, reaching into the fire to twist one seed gently from the firey bush. ”See? Your turn.” If he wanted to put his hand into the fire that is… If not, he’d collect the other four too.
Kitty was filled with absolute GLEE when she saw so many students heading to the library from class. She had just recommended checking the library to two first year students (Dahlia and Patrick) and two second year students (Stasya and Emmeline) back in the Potions classroom, so it would have kind of embarrassing if she was wrong - and the presence of so many students implied she was right! Oh, how she loved being helpful.
Strolling into the library with a half smile on her face, the head girl immediately headed towards the library. Because fire seeds, duh. When she'd just entered she heard an annoying ringing sound, and for a moment the smile vanished from her face and she wondered if she'd been right about the fireseed location. But then as she approached the fire the ringing went off and she joined the crowd of students mulling around the flames.
Adjusting her gloves and safety goggles, Kitty said in a slightly loud voice so everyone could hear, "Cast Chadensis on the container to heat it." She swished her wand. "Chadensis!"
When it was her turn she bent over the flames and started picking seeds.

Beau did not want to listen to any explanations or get a lesson in the short time that they had left. "OKAY OKAY GET ON WITH IT." There was a spell and gloves and it was a lot to be taking it, but they were FINALLY GETTING ON WITH WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING WEOOOOOOOooOOooOooooOOooooOOO!!! Now this was going to be EXCITING. Yada yada safety talk yada yada this was boooooring. "Hey Remy? Do you ALLLLLLLLLLWAYS talk a lot?" Because it was getting annoying and Beau wanted to be the talking person in this duo. That was how it always worked for him.
Hand suited and booted in his glove, Beau copied exACTLY what Remy had done...a little slower than the older student had but was able to get a seed!!!!! "WoaAAHahHHHH"
But that wasn't as fun as he had thought it would be so he took off his gloves and folded his arms. "C'mon. Finish up." It was time to get BACK.

NOW.
Chuckling at the question, the seventh year shook his head. ”No, not really. He had plenty of female friends that liked to talk. He was usually a pretty good listener - he’d just been trying to help…. But aparently he wasn’t interested and the first year just wanted to be finished and back in class.
Well,Remy could work with that. Afterall, they didn’t have much time left to get back to the classroom. At all.
Darn.
Watching to make sure Beau didn’t burn himself, he grinned at the boy…. And then laughed as he was told to hurry up and finish. FINEEEEE. In quick succession, the Hufflepuff stretched into the firebush and pulled out three different seeds and placed them in the heated container before he grinned at Beau, the lid of the container going back in his bag so he didn’t loose it as he stood up again.
”Right, that’s us. Come on, back to the classroom.” Carefully, Remy kept a solid grip on the open container he had placed the still fire-y seeds in. He kept watch of the books, of hair and material and carefullly walked through the corridors with it in his hands.

Fireseeds were one of the ingredients needed.
After a fruitless stop in the kitchen that revealed no fireseeds within the flames of that particular fireplace, Jessa was firmly of the belief that it would have to be here--unless there were fireseeds in their Common Rooms. Were there? Merlin she should have had Julie check before they made it all the way up this many flights of stairs.
Hindsight and all that.
Jessa led the way through the library, willing herself to ignore all the books she actually needed while she was here. This was still technically a lesson with a half hour limit. The walking alone must have been eating away at their time leaving her with hardly any time to peruse the shelves. Tragic really.
"Oh, hey, I think I see 'em!" She chirped as they got closer to the fireplace. So not in the Common Rooms then, good, because at this point, both Ravenclaw Tower and the Slytherin Common Room were equally too far away. "Here, I've got the bucket. You can go ahead and cast the heating charm on it then we can grab what we need." Jessa offered, slipping on the gloves she'd stuffed into her pockets before leaving the Potions Classroom.

Scrambling into the library, trying to be as quiet as he could be Patrick walked toward the fireplace. Thankfully Kitty had told him and Dahlia where to find the fire seeds at. Once he skirted to a stop at the fire he was met with Kitty again in front of him, Oh goody, she's showing us how to take the seeds out of the fire.
He looked over at Dahlia "Would you like me to hold the bucket and you get the seeds? He said five, right?" the bustle of students was distracting to Patrick because he could only focus on the task so long before the quiet chattering of other students trying to do the same task distracted him. Or, maybe it was just that he was praying he did excellent in his first year of classes so that way he might have it easier down the road. Patrick readied his wand in case Dahlia did not feel comfortable casting the Chadensis charm on the bucket herself, or if he was holding the bucket.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five.
Perfect.
See, the Library wasnt exactly the first place that Ace would have thought of when looking for fireseeds inside the castle. Because books yknow? Books and fire aint the best bedfellows to put it mildly.
But the wavy haired Gryffindor gal felt really sure about this, and lo and behold there it was, a steady stream of fellow Potioneers picking away at the hour's prized possession.... from a fireplace.
Fine, not quite the burning bush that enthralled him in that highly memorable Herbology class with a bonus Centaur meet-up. But then this is the library, burning bushes can be metaphorical yknow.
He fitted his dragonhide gloves snugly into his hands, took his wand and the remaining metal collection bowl and cast the heating charm Chaudensis, the nonverbal movement practically second nature now. Then he approached the fireplace and reached his gloved hand in, picking up a fireseed or two and depositing them onto the heated metal bowl on his other hand.
After the fifth plunking sound of seed hitting the bowl, he covered it quickly with a shield charm and deposited it onto their supply tray. "We're all good here now right? Back to the batcave?" he joked at Vi. Lead the way back pretty lady.

"Looks like you were right about the library." Olly grinned at his partner when they entered. There were already several students there, likely to harvest their own fire seeds. He put his gloves on as they moved closer to the fireplace. He was about to make a suggestion when Hattie beat him to it, already prepared to harvest. "Sounds good."
"Chaudensis." Olly charmed the bucket to keep it warm so the fire seeds wouldn't go out. Thank you Professor Myers. He held it out toward Hattie so she could put the harvested fire seeds in it. "Okay, ready."

"I'm always right" Hattie mused with a little smirk. She knew that was a bit vain. But she was a Paton, and they were known for being vain. She was glad she'd been right though, because it would have been annoying to have had to go somewhere else. At least after this they could just go back to the potions classroom, and get onto brewing. That was the best bit of the lesson, and she was really looking forward to doing it.
"Okay!" She beamed, before she knelt down by the fire. Now to get the seeds, without getting burnt. Or well, that was the plan anyway. Burns would not be good at all. Carefully she began picking up the fireseeds. She was careful not to drop any on the floor. She didn't want to waste anything, and she really did not need to set the library on fire. She didn't want to get expelled for arson. That would not be a good exit out of Hogwarts.
Carefully she counted 10 fireseeds into the bucket Olly was holding, so that there was enough for each of them. Smiling, she then stood up. "Perfect. I think we're done!"

They actually didn't find the right fireplace immediately, which was a little bothersome. Being on a tight schedule meant every minute counted and really, it was lucky so many students had been filtering in and out of the library that were in their potions lesson. Helped with the whole knowing they were in the right spot.
Junia busied herself with getting out her bucket as she lead them towards the fire, trying to recall if there was any special movement that accompanied the charm they'd need to use. She remembered that you had to rotate your wrist, but not your arm, and she hoped that was all there was to it. Hm.
"Chaudensis."
The fifth year set the bucket down on the floor and even with her now gloved hands, she could tell it was warm. "I think that worked. Nice." That was a good sign, yes?
Kyle walked into the Library with Matthew and looked around. Spotting the group near the fireplace, he made his way over and waited for their turn to collect the fireseeds. While he waited, he made a little cup out of parchment then transfigured it into a tiny metal bucket, which he then heated up with a charm. He looked over at Matthew, holding up the bucket. "You need one too?"

What what what? They were actually putting their hands into the fire? Dahlia stopped behind Patrick at the fireplace, staring as other students picked out the seeds and placed them into their charmed buckets. Well, she was up for almost anything, so why not? Good thing these gloves were thick.
"Right, so...uhhh....you wanna cast the charm? I mean I could, but I'm still getting to grips with this wand, and I don't want to blast your hand off by accident." She was still getting sparks occasionally when there should have been no sparks. One day she hoped the wandmaker's thoughts came true, and she mastered it.
"In fact you do that, while I get in the queue to grab some seeds, okay?"
Having finished harvesting enough fireseeds, Kitty stood and watched as the others harvested theirs. She wasn't in a hurry to get the rest of the ingredients, watching others do things was just as fun as doing them yourself. After awhile though she decided she should be hurrying up to get back to the lesson. The next place she would try would be the garden patch by Astronomy. It was a long trek, but she was sure that was where one of the remaining ingredients was.

Oh, ugh. Headgirl Evil-entine was here. Katy stuck out her tongue at the back of the other girl as she entered the library with her young charge in tow. Based on the sheer number of students milling around, this looked like the right place. They'd tried some other fireplaces along the way, but Katy was thankful that the Healer-Potions Master had picked a spot relatively close to the Potions classroom. Climbing all the way to the towers and making it back to the dungeons in half an hour was no fun.
"This is the spot. You see those branchy things in the fireplace there? They look like they're on fire? Those are fire seed bushes. They don't actually have leaves, but they do have seeds, and those are what we need. Got it?" The hard part was the harvesting, though. "Fire seeds are a pain, because they're little sensitive babies who don't travel well, so we need to warm up our bucket first." Katy raised the bucket they'd brought along. "I'll do that. You get on your gloves, and we'll start plucking as soon as the bucket is warm."
Katy pointed her wand at the bucket and repeated the charm, nice and loud and clear just for Maddie to hear it and remember it. "Chaudensis. Does the bucket feel warm to the touch?"
The kitchens had been a good guess, but that was all it had turned out to be. A good guess with no conclusion. Not that Julie could or would have blamed Jessa for it- They'd both jumped into it.
She was however, quite keen that this be the last stop for the Fireseeds. They had a lot of ground to cover and only thirty minutes in which to do it in (barely any time given how gigantic the castle was). Julie, who was considering their chances of getting back first, perked up as Jessa spoke. "Yeah? C'mon-" Julie only just held herself back from running the length of the library to the fireplace.
"Excellent!" Julie exclaimed, not bothering to keep her voice down as she too pulled on her gloves and tugged out her wand from her robe pocket. If they kept up this bit of luck the girls would make record time.
The Chaudensis Charm was easy enough (and besides, charms were Julie's thing) and with a gentle rotation of her wrist the bucket was warmed to perfection. "How many did we need? was it Three?" or five? She should have written it down.
Luci entered the library, as quietly as she could, and looked around trying to remember where the super home warmth of the place came from. But then, she noticed some of her classmates already walking out of there with some fireseeds in their proper containers, thus meaning had to follow the way they were coming from.
Feeling warmer every step into the fireplace, Luci stood and blinked for a second to think of what had to be done to harvest those seeds. She wasn't very lucky with fire, even less branches filled with them. Heated pot, gloves, take the seeds.
"I'll heat the container...and one of you can get the seeds?" She asked Miranda and Rhea, as she put on her gloves and lightly twisted her wrist with wand in hand, murmuring the charm. Chau-den-sis....

Okay. It was official. Maddie had the BEST PARTNER EVERRR in this whole Potions scavenger hunt. Katy was amazing at this kind of thing, and Maddie had a feeling she was really gifted in this kind of thing. She followed the girl into the library and toward the fireplace, all the while catching the look the Slytherin gave the Head Girl. "What was that for?" she whispered, genuinely curious. Truth be told, she was fighting the urge to laugh, just because it was kind of funny to see the interactions between the two older girls.
Her attention was diverted back to their task at hand, when Katy pointed out what they'd need for their next part of the assignment. "KATY," Maddie said, her voice in a loud whisper. "That is the coolest thing I have ever seen!" There was a whole bush on fire right here in the middle of the library! Well, it probably wasn't really on fire, but that was how Maddie saw things. She nodded at Katy's question, but most of her attention was now on the fire seed bushes. "Got it," she finally said, she slipped on her gloves. She watched the older student heat up the bucket, realizing that she had a lot to learn before she got to that point.
She eyed the bucket. Katy wanted her to touch it?! But... Maddie eyed her gloved hand then slowly raised it toward the bucket. She could feel the heat even before her glove touched the bucket. "It is!" she said, her voice lingering in between a loud whisper and a little too much excitement. "This I can't wait to see!"
