| Level Three Department of Magical Accidents & Catastrophes |
06-02-2021, 10:35 AM
| | Toxicology and Analysis Laboratory The Toxicology and Analysis Laboratory on level three is a facility set aside for employees of the Accidents and Catastrophes department in order to continually work on their brewing and potion identification skills or for developing experimental potions for assessment and tweaking purposes. While this laboratory is primarily for use by potioneers, it is also a space appropriate for those who are working to identify particular spells or charms found on bewitched objects.
To one side of the lab there are brewing stations complete with all the equipment a potioneer might need. Along the back wall there are magical analysis machines that help with analysing constituent and component parts and ingredients of unidentified potions, as well as testing whether certain ingredients might react dangerously together. Along the other side of the lab you'll find stations for preparing ingredients and analysing bewitched objects. There is also a special magical poisons work area and plenty of storage space for in-progress potions and completed brews.
If you need anything else within this space, you are expected to either provide it yourself or speak with your department head if it is something a little more questionable, large or dangerous. Many muggle items are available in storage for charms or potions work, and you may indeed find some items within the storage cupboard on the other side of the department. Please remember this is a dangerous work zone and all safety procedures must be followed to the letter - use your protective charms and make use of the protective gear provided.
While this room is intended for use primarily by level 3 employees, those who work in other departments may make use of this space with a written request and approval from the Department Head of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes.

| Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent Kendra had spent a good deal of the morning handling an unfortunate situation involving a number of muggles at a seaside resort and a couple rogue grindylows. She assisted a couple obliviators to help modify some memories as well as redirect the grindylows, but she also discovered a couple of questionable looking items at the scene as well - a trident and a large, ornate conch shell. Not wanting to take any chances, Kendra decided to take them back to the Ministry for observation and examination.
Careful not to handle them with her bare hands at the scene, she brought them back in enchanted encasements. She was going to do everything by the book here as she felt she had something to prove now that she had been reinstated as a department head - accidents and catastrophes instead of being back in transportation, but she originally had her training here and felt better suited with A&C. And though she knew that she had been sabotaged the first go-around - no one had believed her then - she was concerned there were still misgivings about here that she needed to prove wrong. Plus she really felt the need to honor her brother's memory in some way.
Now that she was back in the Ministry, Kendra brought the artifacts to the laboratory to conduct some tests with her team to see if there were any curses or otherwise harmful enchantments on them. She levitated them out of their encasements and onto a table in front of her, ready to get started once her team was back to assist.

| *randomly tagged* | Norbert(a) | The Wandmaker (tm) It had taken him a week, but he’d finally finished the antidote for a batch of bad love potions had that somehow been getting around. He had attempted to deliver the antidote to the department head’s office, but she hadn’t been there. Or maybe Adam just hadn’t seen her. He was almost blind after all. After stopping by reception he had been told Kendra was in the Laboratory, so that’s where Adam went. ”Hallo?” he called in his heavy German accent as he shuffled in the room. He held up the bottle of potion as if it would explain why a unspeakable was on Level Three. ”I haf ze antidote you reqfest- oooo! vhat ist dat?” Behind his thick glasses, Adam’s bright blue eyes had landed on the conch shell. It was pretty. It looked like it would make a very loud noise if he blew in it. Maybe he would just pick it up and...

| Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict She wasn’t exactly the person who had singlehandedly taken Dante Zabini down during that whole incident in the past (thanks to Penelope), but it hadn’t stopped her brother from teasing her rather mercilessly over it all. Granted, Skye had been trying to block his escape with her physical body when it had happened, considering the number of spells which had been flying around, but the fact it had actually somewhat worked still mystified her. Either way, it was all behind her and work was her safe place. Considering she was relatively certain her cousins wouldn’t tease her, but then she rarely had reason to go up to level Two. She was just an assistant spell researcher, after all.
Which was what had brought her over to the lab, given the whisperings that had reached her ears about how her new (ish) department head had brought some mysterious artifacts in. She was curious, and there was a chance she might come in useful. Not as a human shield, preferably. “I don’t think you should pick that up,” she said in the direction of the Unspeakable, stepping up to get a better look at the objects on the table in front of Kendra and giving her head a nod. Not when they couldn’t be absolutely sure that conch shell wouldn’t wreak some sort of havoc. Mysterious objects seemed to like doing that, after all.

| Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent Being careful not to touch anything with her bare hands at first, Kendra got to work casting the usual spells her department normally used when suspicious objects came into their possession. Not that she necessarily thought that the trident or conch shell were suspicious, but they were found under magical circumstances and it was always better to be safe than sorry. And these were not ordinary, every day objects, as they were clearly of the magical world.
She was soon joined by Skye, and Kendra was about to pass the trident over to her to perform the final spells to detect any dark magic as she so far detected no curses, when she looked up suddenly to hear a voice calling out. "Ah, Adam, thank you." She gave the Unspeakable a tight smile as he held up a bottle. She did need that antidote and his arrival was actually pretty good timing. She did need an unspeakable sooner or later. "She's right," Kendra nodded as Skye warned him against picking up the shell. "We haven't tested that yet to know if there are any curses or otherwise harmful magic. But we're just about done with the trident. If it comes up clean, would you take it down to Mysteries?" Airey could decide what to do with it then. "If you could give me a hand, Skye.." Kendra began with the dark magic revealing spells to look for anything else.

| YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers While Chloe didn't really have an issues with Raini, there was that familiarity of pre-war things now that Kendra was back. It was almost like nothing was changed and yet she was well aware that everything was changed. But she wasn't here to reminisce and catchup, rather because of some of mysterious artifacts.
Only, she was late to the party, as Skye was already there along with an unspeakable who was touching them? Wasn't that something learned from a young age to not touch anything unknown? Surely grown folks would definitely have learned that lesson by now. "So uh .. where did these come from again?" She looked at the artifacts and then up at Kendra. Just for background. History was important.

| *randomly tagged* | Norbert(a) | The Wandmaker (tm) "Always glad to help," he replied to her thanks for the potions. It wasn't the first time he'd had to brew an antidote for a bad love potion and it probably wouldn't be the last. Adam’s hand stopped, but didn’t retract as multiple people started telling him not to touch things. All he could think of was where was everyone's sense of adventure? He might not have the best of luck but he certainly hadn’t lost his curiosity. Still, in the back of his mind he could imagine Zita yelling at him about taking chances that he shouldn’t be taking. ”You are all nein fun,” he teased as he finally put his hand down. He was a firm believer that sometimes taking risks were worth the outcome. It's what led to a lot of his potions blowing up in his face. He was distracted by another worker joining them. He heard her coming before she spoke. His head swiveled back towards Krendra though when she mentioned the trident. ”Airey? Ja… I can schtay around.” He thought about adding if he could blow the conch when they were done, but he didn’t think they would let him.

| Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent "A seaside resort in Cornwall, quite a few muggles around too," Kendra said in response to Chloe's question, before nodding to her to start working on the conch shell. She needed all hands on deck, so to speak. And she was almost finished with her work on the trident when she paused, her head tilted somewhat as if she was listening closely to a sound heard far away. "Do you hear that?" she asked the collective group. It was a beautiful melody, and it mesmerized her a moment, but then it faded away as quickly as it faded in. Maybe she was just hearing things. She shook her head as if to clear it, then cast one last spell on the trident. "No harmful magic detected," she said at last, then picked it up to hand to Adam. "If you can take this down to Level Nine, then we can make sure the shell is free and clear as well." Then they could hand it off to Environmental for their own research.

Adam asked, head swiveling around the room as if he was trying to see what they were talking about. He stuck a finger in his ear and gave it a wiggle. Dear Albert Magnus, he better not be loosing his hearing. Usually it was pretty good (when he wasn't asleep). Not as good as his sense of smell, but it was still pretty good.
He was still 'looking' around the room when he heard Kendra give him in the all clear. He held out his hands. He nearly dropped it, not expecting it to be so heavy and then heft it onto his shoulder. A moment later a strange sound filled his senses. He blinked, gave his head a shake and then cleared his throat. "Right - off now. Let me know if you need anyzzingk ---- else." He got distracted by the sound again. Maybe they were wrong about that conch, he thought as he marched out with the trident over his shoulder.

| *wrapping this up* Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent "Never mind," Kendra replied, dismissing the sound. She must have been imagining things. Or perhaps she had a tune from the radio stuck in her head. At any rate it was gone now and was certainly inconsequential. Especially as no one else had heard it and she didn't want to look crazy. "Yes, thank you, Adam," she nodded towards the Unspeakable before turning her attention back to the conch shell. Just a few more precautionary spells on this particular artifact before they could deem it safe for handling, though it would need to also be catalogued elsewhere.
And then, after those spells revealed nothing harmful cast upon it, Kendra felt it safe enough to pick up the conch shell. "Ladies, I'm going to turn this over Level Four for their expertise. Thank you for your help, but you can get back to your regular work now." And with that, she was off to Level Four.

| YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Was Chloe a little confused? Perhaps? Or maybe she was just preoccupied because apparently parenting a teenager was no joke. She just hoped she had set a good enough foundation for him to make his own good decisions.
But Adam was taking the artifact away and well it seemed Kendra was in agreement and Chloe did the only next logical thing which was to just nod in pretend understanding. Wait, that's how Apollo acted when she was telling him to do something. Was she regressing into a teenager? Merlin, she hoped not.
She was about to say something - hopefully intelligent - but then Kendra was off, leaving Chloe to her thoughts and observance of the potions brewing.
