When you enter the department head's office, baking soda lightly sprinkles over the carpet automatically behind your feet upon entry, always bringing a fresh scent to the room. Curtains are drawn over the window and open up to let the natural light in. The shelves are neatly organized with books on multiple languages, files, and some sci-fi novels to pass the time. A photograph of Isaek's family is on his desk, along with the other desk ornaments.
Need to speak with Isaek? Knock first and then you may enter and sit in one of the chairs in front of the desk.

Brody had been meaning to have a brief talk with his new Department Head, a very important talk at that too. Was he nervous? Not in the least. If this didn’t go his way… well, that would be fine as there would be other opportunities but he very much preferred it if it did. There was a key requirement that could hinder his request; that, however, was a bridge that wouldn’t be crossed until the next few minutes.
The Consulate rapped on Isaek’s door a couple of times before pushing it open. “Hi, Isaek. Have you got a few minutes to spare?” Having always been engaged in some pressing DIMC matter or the other himself, Brody could respect the other man’s time.

Isaek's morning had started on the busy side, verifying papers that came across his desk, sending a few owls, and having conversations overseas. His break time was to be spent catching up on reading. Unfortunately, the book he chose had grown to be dull. That was when he heard his door knocking.
"Come in," Isaek said after he shoved book (marking it's spot) back onto the shelf. "Hello Brody, of course, have a seat." Gesturing one of the chairs near him. Judging from his posture being on the unsteady side. "Is everything okay?" His voice shifted from professional to more calm.

Oh, good.
He would have hated to be interrupting Isaek from anything important. “Thanks,’’ Brody remarked, moving into the office then shutting the door. Only then did he move to sit on one of the chair’s before his boss’ desk. “Everything’s fine.” As a matter of fact, life couldn't be better for him. Perhaps this fact attributed a reason why he knew he wouldn’t be disappointed if this talk did not go his way.
“I’m interested in applying for the Ambassador-at-Large position for a few reasons,’’ Brody began, drumming the fingers of his right hand on his corresponding thigh almost absently. “It’s been a white since I’ve had a change and I do have much experience with the Department for it.” After all, he had been with the Department {sort of} since before he had graduated from Hogwarts, when he had been an intern during the summer of 2100. How had that been almost fifteen years already? “One of the requirements is having an O in History of Magic NEWT… for which I received an A.” To think one horrid A would put a damper on his career goals! “But I do have the other requirements so my question is would those and my experience be enough to apply for the position?”

It was relieving to hear that everything was fine with Brody. From their time working with them the past few months, they've displayed nothing short of their hard-work and ambition. Which made their question an easy decision. Mostly.
"Ah.. one moment," Isaek said before he opened one of the filing drawers in his desk. There were many, many files detailing the history of past and current employees. Current ones organized first, of course. So within a few seconds, he was able to whip out Brody's employee file. "I trust your reasoning, this is just a formality since I would have to go through this irregardless of a change." Thinking from their perspective, there was little to be nervous about with this process. "You are correct in that the barrier with being an Ambassador-at-Large would require an ''O'' in History of Magic. Just with that alone, I could not go through with your request..." Wait for it, before he smiled softly, "...If you were an employee fresh out of Hogwarts or University." Flipping through the file before he took out one letter in particular. "Besides your approaching two decades here, you have a letter of recommendation from Conley Singh-Phora, who promoted you in the past and has a glowing review regarding your future here. With that said, I'd be happy to approve your request. Did you have any questions or concerns?" He'd be happy to answer them.

Brody tried. He really did try to ensure that he continuously did his best when it came to his job. He felt, after all, that this job was one of his biggest accomplishments in life, one of his biggest prides. It was only his family that rivaled that.
It was only now that he watched Isaek briefly did Brody feel a pang of nerves. He quickly pushed it away as best as he could; that last thing that was needed now nerves to mess with his ability to think clearly. But he couldn’t help but chuckle. “I think you would have to trust my reasoning since I would have to report all sorts of Department matters to you.” In addition to reporting the facts, he also offered opinions and solutions. Back to the matter at hand. It almost seemed that Brody was holding his breath; did he really want the Ambassador-At-Large position more than he thought? It certainly took a moment for all those words from Isaek to sink in, which was why he sat there silently for a minute. He had been recommended by Conley? Brody had most certainly not known this. A mental note was made to contact the man at some point to thank him. Or he could always ask Sachin to do so on his behalf. Coming back to reality, Brody started to smile happily. “Thanks a lot, Isaek!” He already couldn't wait to share the news with Gabe and Artemis. “Just one. When do I start?”

Isaek sat and listened for any disputes, hesitation, questions, or concerns. Any of them had to be on Brody's mind from what Isaek observed. That was one thing he liked about Brody, they had a fresh sense about them. It was shame he couldn't get to know them in their younger years, since he only had papers and their current year of working to rely on. Safe to say, the right decision was made as he chuckled.
"I'm thrilled to hear that, Brody." As for his question, "Excellent! Your title as Ambassador-At-Large will be effective immediately as of June 2115, as soon as you've signed this document here." He conjured a paper that detailed the job details with a quill and ink. "Your pay will increase from 700ʛ to 1,000ʛ per month. Since our other Ambassadors are on assignment, you'll meet with a former colleague who is currently in their home country Germany..." He paused to read aloud the name, "Jerald Despret-Dolph. They'll be working with you on your first assignment there since they've gone through a similar transition in the past. And your prior connection with them will make the adjustment easier." That's right, they'll be taking a trip as part of their first assignment. "Did you have any other questions?" It was a lot to drop at once.

Truthfully, the only concern Brody had had been the possibility of him having to complete an equivalent course to NEWT History of Magic. He had, in fact, already mentally prepared himself for that response from Isaek. So while there wasn’t need for him to feel relieved about being exempted from it, it did make a surge of happiness rise through him for two reasons: it meant that no time would be taken away that he would be spending with the husband & daughter and his hard work and dedication had been noticed.
No worries, Isaek. There was still plenty of time to get to know him. There were always experiences from the Department during his younger years that could be shared. Brody took the contract, though he didn’t start reading it just yet; Isaek was offering some key information, after all. The increased pay would be helpful since he and Gabe were about to begin the adoption process for their second child. As for the assignment, Brody couldn’t help the tiny grin that graced his face. It would be great working with Jerald again. “Jerald and I have worked well together in the past. I’m sure that we can do that again.” So yes, this change would be easier having a friend to help. Plus it gave him a chance to apply his skill at the German language, which he had only perfected about two years ago. “Yes, I do. Do you see any areas that I need to improve on?” Anything at all, be it him falling back on his communication skills or him slacking on the job for whatever reason.
While Isaek pondered on the question, Brody lowered his gaze to the contract and began his meticulous read.

When it came to being a Department Head, there were many heads one had to keep track of. Figurative and literally. In addition to solving any dilemmas and disputes. A bigger challenge came when you were the new Head on the block. He had more experience, yes, but familiarity of the environment was something he had to adapt to. Months later, Isaek would say that he had done so if anyone asked them directly.
"Excellent," Isaek knew he nailed it by having the right colleagues work together again. His brief contact with Jerald to prep them for the situation was promising and pleasing to confirm that Jerald wasn't just being diplomatic over how well he and Brody connected. Having close connections was key, he thought while he observed Brody overlooking the document. "Be sure to write all the languages you're fluent in within the box below your signature." As another note, so he could have it updated overtime when needed. He was then asked how they could improve.
"Good question." Isaek commented for a moment. "From what I've observed, you're prompt and direct, which credits your reliability. I would say continue that but most importantly, keep your current connections formed and be open to any criticism and new connections." Stuff he was already familiar with, now for the criticism. "From this note, it's apparent that you were owed this new position for some time. My suggestion for you on what to improve on is not to overlook your accomplishments. You're a humble individual, which is great for diplomacy, but you could improve on how soon you take action." Now for the serious note. "Suffice to say, just because you were owed this position, didn't guarantee that I would've accepted your request. When you came into this office and presented your achievements and reasoning, that's when I knew you deserved it. An Ambassador with enough experience is as direct and clear with their ambition as you've shown. I encourage you to continue that, and you will go far... not just literally." Mini humour there, forgive him.
After letting all the information sink in, Isaek patiently waited as they continued overlooking the document. Waiting until there was a pause with them "Was there anything else?" Anything he wanted to ask, clarify something in the document, borrow his broom? The latter he might have a firmer reply to. Ahem.

Brody was inwardly a little too thrilled to be working with Jerald again. One of the benefits of working in this Department was the vast number of persons he had been able to work with. Even better was that interacting with all those personalities had allowed him to learn about individuals and helped him adapt to the personality types. Jerald was one of those that provided no challenges when it came to teamwork. “Ah. That’s quite a short list,’’ Brody stated modestly. English excluded, he was fluent in a dozen languages, all of which he would list in alphabetical order.
That out of the way, it allowed him to focus on the answer to his question. It was quite clear that Isaek had a lot to say, which made Brody glad that he had asked said question. There was a quick nod from him; being prompt, direct and open were traits that he would not let go of so easily. The next bit left him taken aback, not because of the directness but because Brody knew that what Isaek said was true. He just needed to be reminded of something he knew already. “I’ll keep all of that in mind.” Brody hadn’t always been humble; as a teen he had been sort of the opposite. “Thank you for your honesty. You can be sure I’ll use your advice… to go far.” Brody’s lips twitched upwards in a smile at the humour. In a way, he needed to hear all of what was just directed at him. It was often easy to forget one’s worth, after all.
“Nothing else.” No broom borrowing was needed, fortunately, Isaek. Brody added his signature to the document with a flourish, added the languages then held it out to Isaek. “I think that’s in order,’’ he said, placing the quill on the desk beside the inkwell. There came an exhale, filled with happiness. “I’ll let you get back to your work now.”
