Charles Hollingberry EraAll historical records pertaining to Ministry of Magic RPG under Minister for Magic, Charles Hollingberry [IC March 2097 - present; OOC November 2018 - present]
The Greenhouses house any and all plants the Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection is currently working on, both indigenous and foreign. This is where the Botanists work their magic - literally and figuratively. A place where Potions ingredients and rare plants are being grown and where the Research and Development team conduct their experiments. After the incidents under Nickles' reign, some of the more aggressive plants have been quarantined into a separate smaller greenhouse, to be tended to only by those specifically assigned to the task.
If you do not work for the Department of Environmental Regulation and Protection, you are NOT permitted to enter any of the Greenhouses without being accompanied by a DERP-employee; unless you have been given explicit permission by the Department Head, Olly Emmons-Clarke.
Should you find any of the greenhouses to be short on supplies of any kind, please contact one of the Greenhouse Caretakers.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Lucy was in her ideal environment when working in the DERP greenhouses. She was currently making observations of the vast assortment of plants by inspecting such things as if the quality of the plants were of a decent standard. No dying plants were going to happen on her watch if she could help it.
Lucy also carefully replenished the plants by giving them each the required fertiliser/mulch and water. She knew not to overwater or over-fertilise plants because that could easily harm them just like not using enough water or fertiliser would.
Her long red hair was in a ponytail and she had dirt on her face but she didn't mind in this case. For once, she was content.
Lucy then decided that that new Pets 'n Plants Cafe was in need of some additions so she had a look for some basic little plants that did not require much looking after. She spotted an Agapanthus and thought the vibrant colour might be good for decorative purposes. Lucy carefully removed the plant from the ground and placed into an already prepared small pot. She then repeated the process for a red daisy, a yellow daisy and some lavender.
Once she placed the pot plants on a tray she performed a cleaning charm on herself and headed for the cafe.

While her first introduction to the ministry had been stressful, thoughts of the fireworks display and January's face when it went wrong crossing her mind every so often, Mariana was happy to find comfort in the familiar. Here with the plants, she knew what was safe and what was not and how to deal with both. Her confidence surged as she moved among the greenery, clipboard in hand as she took notes, jotted down reminders, and got acquainted with the greenhouses she was going to call home for as long as Olly Emmons-Clarke would allow. Here she felt good.

Despite the fact that she didn't REALLY have a lot of time - being department head appeared to be around 99.9% about paperwork - Olly did take the occasional stroll around the greenhouses. Just making sure everything was in order, maybe checking in on a few of the more difficult and complex plants from time to time.
Standing up from taking a closer look at one of the flutterby bushes that didn't seem to be growing as fast as the others, Olly noticed someone else had joined her. One of her new employees. She should probably speak to her, yeah? They really hadn't got a chance to get acquainted properly, other than during her application process.
"Mariana, hello." She even gave the other woman a polite smile.

"Hi, I was wondering when I'd be bumping into you." Mariana offered her usual warm smile, tucking back some of the hair that had fallen loose from the curly knot at the back of her head. That's what she got for using a pencil as a means to tie back her mane. "I'm really enjoying getting to know these greenhouses. The variety of flora is pretty amazing." Also a challenge, though magic made dealing with each plant's eccentricities considerably less difficult. "Thank you again for the opportunity." Her expression was sincere, gaze focused on her department head. The job meant a lot to her.

Archer had been checking on his babies all day for the past few weeks, and he knew this week would be time to re-pot them. He'd purchased some pleasant looking pots with matching stands which would go with them to their new homes around the Ministry. Having plucked a few of the herbs and covered them in a perfect 65 degree celsius water, he was now sipping away at the calming tea whilst using his wand to prepare all of the equipment he needed. Wearing his apron and dragonhide gloves, he got to it. Putting some of the soil into the pots, and carefully extracting one of the nearly matured plants from the soil, before placing it gently into the pot and filling it back with potting soil.

The greenhouses were quite extraordinary, so much so that Q believed he'd have made himself home here even if it wasn't his job. Lush, bright and warm, Quentin had done himself the kindness of leaving his robes aside and rolling up his shirt sleeves as he wandered through the both magical and mundane flora and fauna. He sucked in a deep breath taking in the strong smell of earth and vegetation with the brightest of lazy smiles. He'd been waiting a long time to work in a place like this. Dignified, historic. Here was where change had begun, and here was where Quentin would make his mark.
He kneeled, reaching into the soil beneath a shrivelfig to feel the soil with his own clean, but calloused fingers. soft, but not too soft- the dirt did not break apart in his fingers, nor did it mush together. Fertile. Clean. Quentin Alvey hummed to himself, pleased.

The real reason Alexander Brian was in the greenhouse was to supervise some research if anyone asked even if he had all the juniors away on assignments and the senior ones where off halfway around the globe. Ok, he should really double check where they are put that can be accomplished before he leaves for the day
Maybe he was here to because mostly all in here were plant nerds and would leave him alone. Which in his experience was basically the truth. Take this dude for example humming and completely focused on his work.
He stepped closer to see what he was actually working on.
"What you got there?"
Obviously it wasn't in the Division Heads department with being an underwater plant and such but still curious.

Was there ANYTHING more exciting and wonderful than being here? Calyx Glen Morgan-Bott, soon to be sixth year Gryffindor, didn't think so! He was an early boy, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. He had written to Mrs Olly to check if he needed to bring anything or wear anything specific (what if they had a uniform!!?) but she had said no, and that he could bring his own gloves from home if he had favourites (he did!) but that all equipment was provided, so he had only brought himself, a packed lunch (thanks mum!), and the gardening gloves that Nina got him that had runes on them. Since it was summer he'd gone with shorts and a t-shirt, but he was wearing sensible socks and boots for stomping about in the dirt, exactly has he would if he was working in the garden back home or helping out with his dad and uncle in their gardening and landscaping business. His gloves were currently hanging out of his back pocket as he arrived at the greenhouses. He looked around in eager amazement, wanting to go and explore, but instead respectfully waiting, though his eyes were taking it all in. EXCITING!!!

Liliane was not overly excited to be heading into the department of environmental regulation and protection. She was pretty sure that she couldn't have been clearer on her application that she had wanted to learn more about potions related careers. Whilst she knew and understood that Herbology, and plants were pretty important to potion making, she really did not want to spend her summer around plants and dung, and nothing that she was really interested in. She'd worked hard to get where she was in Potions, really working herself to the edge practically, and now she was just going to spend her summer in the green house. Lovely. She knew it would probably be a good opportunity, but it seemed a little pointless to her really. She just hoped that it would look good when her CV when she came to get a job. She would try to be positive, even if she really was not excited at all.
She tried to be as early as she could to the greenhouses. She wanted to make a good impression, especially as she knew this wasn't her ideal location. She wondered if the department head would know she really hadn't wanted herbology related. That would be interesting. With a smile, she arrived at the greenhouses, noting that there was already someone there. At least she wouldn't be alone.
"Uh. Hello" Hopefully he would be more interested in Herbology than she would. Otherwise this would be an even longer summer.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Lucy was busy inspecting the progress of some shrivelfigs when she spotted a couple of interns. She took off her dragon-hide gloves and headed over to where the two of them were.
"You two are interns, right? Well, welcome to the department of environmental regulation and protection's greenhouses. My name is Lucille Pembrooke and I work as a botanist here. What are your names?"
Olly had given the two interns a five minute headstart to ensure that they would arrive before her and, thus, weren't officially late. She was feeling nice today. Blame it on her new baby boy at home. Or on lack of sleep due to said baby boy. Either way, here she was now, hoping to see both of her interns eagerly awaiting their assignment.
"Good morning." She greeted them, for once sipping on a cup of coffee instead of tea (again, lack of sleep and all that). Oh good, they'd been joined by Lucille. "Yes, this is Calyx-" Olly indicated the boy in front of her. "And this is Liliane." Great, now that the introductions were out of the way she gave Lucille a polite smile before turning towards the two interns.
"Alright. We've prepared a little something for you to do which will really help us here in the department." Olly used her wand to reveal five large and sealed containers which had previously been under a disillusionment spell. "Each of these contains a different type of dung which will be used as fertilizer for our plants here. I hope you brought your gloves-" Well, she knew Calyx had. "Your task for the week will be to fill the dung into smaller bags for us to use. Please seal each bag and label them accordingly." She then gestured to the large containers' labels which read Dragon, Mooncalf, Hippogriff, and Erumpent respectively.
"You are NOT allowed to enter any of the other greenhouse except for this one. Not without my permission." Which she miiiight grant if they asked nicely and if one of her employees accompanied them. "You might hear from the Creatures interns at some point too. They're called.....uh...Gunther...Julian...and Nesefari." Okay, maybe hurriedly scribbling the names on the palm of her hand this morning had NOT been her best idea yet. The ink definitely looked very smudged. But surely the names were close enough, yeah?
"If you have any questions, you may try to ask one of the people who work here for help."Try because let's be real, people like Bertie were NOT likely to help them out. Olly gave Lucille a small smile though because the other woman was usually very friendly and helpful. "Or you may come to me directly as well." If she was in. And ready to receive visitors (i.e. not catching up on sleep in her office).
"Do either of you still need anything before you can get started?"

"Oh, hi Liliane!“ Calyx greeted the older girl. Even if he didn't remember her name from the orientation meeting the previous day, he did from school. Sort of. He remembered it when he had heard it again anyway. Hehe. And then another lady came and said hi, and Calyx grinned at her too, about to say something when Mrs Olly arrived and introduced them. He settled for a friendly wave instead because suddenly they had work to do. He was eager for it too, back straightening, listening face on...
Dragon, mooncalf, erumpent, hippogriff. Okay got it. It was supposed to take a week? Probably because no magic? It was not always good to use magic since it could change how the plants might grow and react to the fertiliser, so he found himself nodding. Oh except he DID have questions!
Was his hand supposed to go up? It wasn't school so he went with a polite interruption instead.
"Excuse me, Ma'am? What kind of dragon dung is it? We get different types at home because dad says regional plants sometimes like the dragon type that ranges in their area best of all. Its this a specific kind or a mix?" And did she want that on the label too? Calyx put his gloves on and looked towards the dung again. If he didn't look worried or dismayed it was because he wasn't - he didn't mind a bit and if anything he was excited to be useful!

Today was, perhaps, one of those less heavy days on Kat's schedule. Her team would usually be sent out to inspect magical sanctuaries for plants on rogue, or if specialized greenhouses were getting the special treatment needed when it came to climate concerns. There was a team sent out, actually, but she specifically chose not to deploy herself. She had to deal with the one of the violent plants in the quarantined greenhouse herself, along with a few magical weather adjustments.
She had just finished with the last greenhouse when she caught sight of Olly and the interns inside one of the other greenhouses. One of the tame ones, to say the least. The former Slytherin smiled to herself as she made her way inside that certain greenhouse to join Olly and Lucille. "Morning, boss, Lucille," Kat greeted the adults with a polite nod to each. She would update Olly regarding aggressive plant things later, but for now, she turned to the interns. "Good morning, Miss Montague. Mr. Morgan-Bott." She knew their names, she was at the department meeting with the interns. She was here to observe, for now.
Her green eyes caught the attention of the various containers of dung, and Kat suppressed a smirk. Typical intern tasks. She was especially surprised that Olly wasn't asking them to fetch her baby stuff, actually. Maybe it was too early in the summer for that.

Perhaps she should have expected a question like this from Calyx. He seemed to be quite well-prepared and, most of all, interested. Unlike Liliane. Olly nodded and took another sip of her coffee. "It is not a mix." She said finally. "This is from a Common Welsh Green. So it will be used on our more native plants in here. So yes, please add that to the label as well." Since he'd asked. And it would save them from adding it afterwards.
Good thinking.
Ooh, look, Katrina. "Alright. I have to go back to my office now. If you hav any more questions, please ask these two here." And with that and a quick gesture to Lucille and Kat, Olly walked out of the Greenhouse. Fast. She had places to be. Things to do.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
As her boss introduced Calyx and Liliane, Lucy smiled as she mentally took notes of the interns' names. Lucy had been very busy with her botanist duties therefore, she had been absent for the orientation.
Lucille noticed the opposing views that the two interns had. Calyx was extremely eager to learn whereas Liliane didn't seem all that interested. Hopefully, Lucille could help change the university student's mind.
When Kat arrived on the scene and greeted everyone, Lucy greeted her with a smile and nod. As Olly departed, Lucy looked at Calyx and Liliane ready to answer any questions they might have.

To be honest it wasn't that she was totally against being here in the environment department. Any work experience was good. It just wasn't what she had asked for. Lili knew she would learn lots, and she would just have to work out how to apply it to the subject of Potions. Maybe she'd pull out one of her old Herbology text books when she got back to the house. She wanted to make the best out of this situation. And she had to make sure that her face showed she was interested. As long as there wasn't too much dung. That she could cope with.
"Hey Calyx" She murmured with a smile. She obviously hadn't seen him for a while, but it was nice to see a familiar face. She was just glad that she had a familiar face here. She was sure that it would make the internship a bit better. She smiled at the department head too. She wanted to make a good impression. It would be a good thing right.
Honestly, Lili didn't know too much about dung. Not the different types of animal dung anyway. Creatures hadn't been her best subject either. Calyx was answering interesting questions. She found them interesting, even if she didn't fully get them. Some of it made sense, and she was actually glad he was here. Maybe he would make it a bit better for her. Or at least, make her feel more curious and so learn more about Herbology.
And now to get going, separating the dung into the bags. With a smile, because she was actually quite glad to be doing something productive this summer, she pulled on her gloves. "Do you want to start with the Dragon dung and I'll start with the Mooncalf?" She asked, as she turned to look at Calyx.

With the papers containing Lucille’s information in hand, Brody had made his way to Level Four on the prowl for the young woman. He hoped she would be there at the time that he had decided to show up. Even if she wasn’t, Brody decided, he would take to opportunity to get familiar with the level. If he recalled right, Level Four housed two Departments. The Slytherin paused at the corridor, trying to make up his mind as to where to begin his attempt to track down Lucille.
“The greenhouses,’’ his brain said almost immediately. Without a second of hesitation, Brody took off. Being unfamiliar with the rules of the Environmental Department, he strode right through the doors of the greenhouses and into all the greenery.

Woops.
Lucille was busy observing the two DERP interns when she spotted an unfamiliar face amongst the greenery. She quickly excused herself and marched over to where this stranger was.
"Do you have permission from Olly Emmons-Clarke who is the department head to be here? If not, why are you here?" Lucille demanded, her hands on her hips as her eyes blazed like wildfire.

Woah. Woah. Woah!
This woman was like a wildfire!
From the instant Brody had spotted her marching towards him, he had recognised her from the picture among her documents. That glare that she was giving him, that stance that she had taken up… Merlin! Brody was almost intimidated. Almost. He cleared his throat. “Um. No. No, I didn’t. I didn’t know that was a requirement, Ms. Lucille.’’ He smiled apologetically, or as apologetic as he could go. Perhaps Lucille would melt at his developing people- skills. “I’m Brody Hawthorne, attached to the Department of Magical Cooperation on the internship…’’
Brody cleared his throat again and wished that Lucille would stop glaring at him. “It seems that- ah… your wand permit has expired. There are two solutions to this.’’ The intern shuffled his papers, looking for the notes he had made prior to seeking out Lucille. “MACUSA can be contacted to request an updated permit or you can visit the Department of Magical Law Enforcement to do it.’’ His smile changed into a friendly one. “I suggest MLE. It’s a lot easier and convenient.”

Lucy folded her arms as she listened to what the intern had to say. How she loathed paperwork. "Er...thanks for letting me know, Mr Hawthorne. I'll heed your advice and visit the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Is there a deadline? After all, I am keeping an eye on these interns," she pointed at Calyx and Liliane.

To Brody’s surprise, Lucille listened to all he had to say without a word. To be honest, he expected interruptions and objections. Yes, he knew how difficult some could become when they were requested of something; after all, that was something a younger him used to do. Just thinking of it made him feel disgusted at himself. The intern was just relieved Lucille wasn’t going to give him a difficult time.

His mind raced when he was asked the question. “Since the expiry date has passed, I think you should have the renewal done at your earliest convenience. Lucy nodded. "Okay then. I'll do that as soon as I can. Thanks for informing me. Oh, by the way. Your surname is familiar. Are you related to Lucas Hawthorne from the Department of Magical Games and Sports, I think?"

Brody mentally breathed a sigh of relief. How lucky was he to have been assigned randomly to someone who didn’t give him any trouble at all? He hoped that Kaiser and Holly were faring just as well. As a precaution, the intern rechecked his notes. No he hadn’t missed anything and had covered all his basis with Lucille. He started to thank her and to tell her that he would be doing a follow up with MLE to ensure that everything was processed in a timely manner but she brought up his surname.
Brody was used to this now. Uncle Brody was a very important part of DMGS. “Yes. That’s my uncle,” he replied with a smile. “You know him well?” Perhaps Lucille was one of Lucas's friends.

Lucy slightly shook her head and replied to Brody's question. "I don't know him on a personal level. It is more of a... I know of him. I might pass by him or see him at Ministry orientations but other than that, I don't see him much. I tend to keep to my department."
Lucy thought it was best to let the intern her intentions. "Well, I'm going to MLE as soon as I can. Once again, thanks for informing me. Goodbye."
