At number 13B, Borgin & Burkes still stands. This antique shop is the most well known and oldest of the shops in Knockturn Alley. Every dark wizard knows this large, dusty shop is the place to go to find objects that are both strange and powerful and very old items that seem to hold unusual and dark characteristics. But don't let the dim lighting that comes from the large stone fireplace fool you. This is not a welcoming place. Its former owners, Mr. Borgin and Caractacus Burke, were known to be able to swindle powerful magical objects for very little money and then sell them for triple, but that is nothing compared to the new owner...
Just outside the door and around the corner, you can take the steps to the upper level of Knockturn Alley, or stick around on this lower level and pop in next door to The Coffin House Necromancy Emporium.

Shady characters were the type that usually frequented Knockturn Alley.
But Dhruv was no shady character. Oh no, they weren’t! The only reason they visited this particular Alley was because they enjoyed browsing Borgin and Burkes. It really wasn’t a hobby but as someone who prided themself in being a professional when it comes to defending against the Dark Arts, this was the perfect shop to research on dark artefacts.
Would there be any new ones joining the ranks? Of course, Dhruv was not interested in purchasing anything; it was just the sheer power these objects held that intrigued them. They manoeuvered their way past that grandfather clock that assaulted those milling around by giving it a wide berth. They instead paused by the display that was the snuffbox.
While Dhruv certainly couldn't be considered a shady character, the same perhaps could not be said of his companion for the day. But not at least in the sense of there needing to be concern over any purchases he were to make in the Alley today - though he assumed there would not be any.
His sole purpose here was that of to find his former rival friend and catch up for a bit before it was back to the training arena for Cicero and back to Hogwarts for Dhruv. Sticking his hands into his pockets, the man made his way through the narrow street and pushed through into Borgin and Burkes, figuring this was the best area in which he could find the current DADA professor. His hunch was rewarded with the familiar figure and he approached, adjusting his scarf more comfortably around his neck. "Almost didn't recognize you without your sunglasses." He spoke from behind, so of course... there might still be sunglasses on his companion's face.

Right.
No one in their right mind would consider Cicero shady, once you got to know him. Then again, Dhruv had thought that their friend was sort of cagey the first time they had met at a winged horse event. Later on, they reasoned this was only because Cicero possessed a rather competitive personality; needless to say it had taken them a while to chip away at that.
Dhruv, for some reason, found the snuffbox quite fascinating. Not that they were interested in getting it though. In any case, if they were to get anything from this shop, it would be for research purposes only. Hearing that familiar voice, Dhruv straightened. There was a smile already in place as he turned to face Cicero. “Who says I’m without it?’’ they asked, peering at their friend over the shades. “Hi, Cicero.” Ah, it was so good to see him! Dhruv moved in close for a hug. “Not freaked out about being in here, are you?”
Perhaps it was because Dhruv had just gotten used to Cicero and his quirks that they still believed there might be goodness in the man. Cicero had heard many a times now to his face that he was in fact 'shady', by his own flesh and blood nephew no less. Though if one were to truly analyze that relationship there, Wren was nothing but another victim to the Winged Horse Trainer's competitive nature. Being family had meant there had been additional expectations that he had put upon him. And he was just still too short sighted to notice his own mistakes.
Perhaps one day. Maybe even the next time he saw his sister and she ripped into him anew over how hard he'd been on her youngest son. Either way, it all sounded like problems for another day.
For now, he would be focused on catching up with old friends. When Dhruv turned around and displayed the sunnies indeed on their face, Cicero couldn't help the laugh that escaped. "I should have known." He chuckled, before also returning the quick hug. Dhruv was perhaps one of the only people who would be allowed any type of physical affection from the man. Perhaps that was because his friend count also stopped here. "Freaked out? Not at all. On the shelves they look like just a bunch of artifacts. Are you looking for something specific here?"

Poor Cicero.
He should know by now that Dhruv thought nothing but great things about him. Perhaps the thing that stood out was that they thought Cicero was quite the worthy opponent. Anyone who thought anything negative about their friend was simply moronic. #SorryNotSorry
Please, Cicero. You just couldn’t resist any hug from them! Dhruv thought that hugs were good for the man; he probably hadn’t been hugged much. Dhruv kept the hug short knowing that their friend was iffy about this sort of public display of affection. “Brave man,’’ they replied heartily. “That they do. And no, I’m not. This place always fuels my curiosity. Want to see some snake skins?” Ahem. Dhruv may have asked that question a little enthusiastically. “Also catch me up with what you haven’t filled me in on your letters.”
Being considered a worthy opponent was probably the one thing anyone could have said that would be taken as a genuine compliment. And perhaps even garnered a genuine smile from the man. Just imagine that! Which of course, Dhruv was on the very limited list of people who would know that about the man.
As for hugs? He was not incorrect that there hadn't been a surplus of those as he was growing up. Merlin McCarthy had certainly not been a hugger. Cicero and his brother had taken after the man that way, perhaps out of necessity as they were the two from the Squib man who had been 'chosen' to carry the magical gene. Ariadne and Emrys had both been squibs themselves, but what they lacked in ability for spell casting they had certainly made up for in empathy and the desire to seek human affection. He'd always found them baffling for that reason, even as he still accepted hugs now on the rare occasions from his friend. "Brave or stupid? I often hear they're pretty interchangeable." He replied back, an attempt at a joke as he picked an item up off the shelf to examine it closer, only after reading the product card carefully to ensure they're visit wasn't about to result in a St. Mungo's trip. The excited question of snakeskins made the man laugh as he followed Dhruv to where they could be located. "Remind me what snakeskins is good for again?" As for things he hadn't updated him on...? "I somehow got roped into a dating program awhile back. It was terrible, would not recommend." But perhaps that was because he'd been a good 10 years older than majority of the contestants. "And I just recently heard about some new Abraxan fouls I'll be traveling to Ireland to see in about a weeks time. Otherwise... things are very much the same. It's just training, and races with the jockeys, etc." A boring life he led - though not really because he a little bit loved it. "What about you? How is teaching going?"

Maybe someday Cicero would be more open to hugs; after all, hugs were good for the soul. Nevertheless, Dhruv was honoured that Cicero accepted hugs from them. Shh, but they would be sad if their friend refused these hugs!
Oh, their friend had jokes, and they were legit funny ones. This is why Dhruv laughed. “You’re right. I just may have seen you being both brave and stupid in the air.” Smirking, Dhruv made a mental note to keep a close eye on Cicero if he didn’t mind picking up artefacts, regardless if they were harmless or not. “Making booths and belts, for starters. These, however.” Dhruv pointed at the poisonous looking type on display. They made a face. “Let’s not speculate.” Then they were making another face. “Not going to jump into that, I assure you.” For more reasons than one on their part. “No one took to your fancy then?” Dhruv asked with interest. The mention of Abraxan foals was so nostalgic for them; it took them right back to the good ole winged horse racing days. “How long will you be staying? Also, send some pictures? Baby abraxans are the purest.” How was teaching for them? “The first term went quite well, actually. Everyone has been quite welcoming and accepting. I’ll definitely be returning next term.”
Any comments regarding to his previous racing days always made Cicero smile, which was exactly as he did now. A fully genuine one, which was often a rare look on him. "What you call stupidity, I call 'risks'. And I'd like to point out they generally worked in my favor." Though the times they had not, it usually ended with a hospitalization for him and a vacation for his horse. Keeping an eye on him was perhaps a good idea - missing key information was not something that was abnormal for the man. And perhaps he would usually not touch things so recklessly, but perhaps Dhruv's company was also what lulled him into a sense of security in doing so. At the pointing at the poisonous snake skins, Cicero put down what he'd been holding and moved further towards his friend to see what they were pointing at. "I take it that's not a pair of boots you'd particularly want to step into?"
At the question of anyone taking his fancy, Cicero made a face and shook his head. "Certainly not. They were all far younger than myself. And a rather... eclectic bunch, odd quirks to them. I was glad to leave as soon as I could." There had been one individual who hadn't been an absolute chore speaking with, but he certainly would not attempt to seek out her company again - even if they'd shared similar horror movie tastes. Speaking of his upcoming trip was far more relaxing - and excitable to him as another smile replaced his usual scowl. "That depends on the foals." He so far had a room booked for a week, but if there was any he was interested in he would extend for further observation and then hopefully negotiation. "I'll send you some photos." He assured, though truthfully he'd probably only remember if some were actually promising. He was always good at taking photos if there was a natural talent. "That's good to hear first term went smoothly. I'm sure students prefer seeing returning faces to new Professors. Already have all your lessons planned out for the next year?"

“Showoff.’’ It was the first word out of their mouth but it was accompanied by a chuckle shortly after. There was no hostility behind the word; if anything, there was awe that their friend indeed mostly had things working out in his favour. “You can’t tell me that luck wasn’t involved.” Not the Liquid Luck, mind you, because that was illegal and Cicero wasn’t a cheater in any form. “Definitely not. I prefer leather just fine. Sturdier for making a quick escape from Komodo Dragons,’’ they deadpanned, referring to the event in Indonesia that had struck permanent nervousness about the creatures in Dhruv’s heart.
Dhruv couldn’t help it; they legit laughed at the description of the date provided. “I don’t envy you. Dating is difficult.’’ Not that they had made many attempts for two personal reasons. “Was it speed dating then? Or did you actually go on dates on multiple occasions?” Either way, it all sounded exhausting. “As long as you’ve got some time for catching up during Christmas. Or if you want to stop by at Hogsmeade some time.” Maybe Cicero could actually bring along an abraxan friend… no, Dhruv was joking. “I think you and I can attest to that. Not everyone is good at dealing with the constant changes.” At this point, they gave Cicero a sheepish grin. “Um… a quarter of the way through? I got lazy and slacked off.” Hey, even professors were allowed to be this way at times.
Even if the word had been said with malice, which truthfully he did not believe Dhruv capable of, it was apt so Cicero still would have taken it as a compliment. And the smirk that spread across his face probably indicated as such. "I like to believe it was also skill." He teased, because yes... there definitely had been some luck involved. Though Dhruv was correct not the cheating type. While he might not have been above that in school, when it came to his racing and the things he cared about it was far more rewarding to win on merit alone. He fought a smile at the reference to the komodo dragons, giving a nod in understanding. "At least you're well prepared."
Dating did seem difficult and truthfully a waste of time if one asked Cicero. He'd had one serious relationship in his life back in the States, and that had been enough of an attempt from him. "Not multiple dates. It was an odd set up. Essentially they got a bunch of contestants to sign up, I'm still trying to figure out who submitted me, and put them all on a wheel. Whoever was matched from the wheel had to go out on a date which was also selected for us. I simply had to take a girl to a movie, which was far better than some." Though bungee jumping was something he would not have minded. "Christmas I'll be around again, and just let me know when would be convenient times for you in Hogsmeade and I'll swing by." It would be nice to hear about how the term was progressing in person, instead of just letters. At Dhruv's answer, he could only snort. Only he could think having a quarter of the entire year planned was 'slacking'. Had Cicero ever been in teaching (which he would never) the lessons would have been planned the week before. "I imagine you're farther ahead then some."

Unless all professors were overachievers.
“Full of yourself, aren’t you?” Dhruv’s favourite thing about this friendship? The banter could never turn into an argument. “Are you sure that ego of yours won’t inflate your head?” Because they were definitely expecting their friend to be lifted off the ground. At least there would be no need for winged horses of any kind to get around in this case. “I’m never being unprepared for that sort of thing again.’’ This was said in a sort of forlorn tone because… Komodo dragons.
Dhruv resisted the urge to shudder. “Well, you can certainly count me out of your list of suspects because I would never set you up for that sort of torture.” The fact that they both were uninterested in dating was another reason this friendship kept going strong. “A movie date wasn’t bad. I rather think you were saved from boring dates?” Given Cicero’s love for excitement, Dhruv could actually see his friend falling asleep on a boring, indoorsy date. Excellent! A mental note was made of this. “I’ll be messaging you… as usual.” The duo’s frequent communication was nothing new. Cicero’s snorting was so amusing that a laugh quite escaped Dhruv’s throat unexpectedly; they always found the snort hilarious. “I’d hope so. I have a feeling that I’ll be lazy for another week or so. Though I do think poisonous snake skin makes for an interesting topic.” A topic that would always see their friend here coming to mind.
