| | Win a Date with January Bones Win a Date with January Bones It was finally time for the "date" Fletcher had won with the Senior Undersecretary, and although he had been working with January for a few weeks now, he was still nervous and yet eager to impress his boss. And so he had spent a small fortune mere sickles to him, really to secure this date in the auction, and then another small fortune again, what was money? one could not take money with one to the afterlife to ensure a private table with a view of London in one of the top restaurants in town, and then, naturally, another small fortune had been required as he'd sent for his stylist and tailor to purchase him a fine new suit jacket.
He was already seated at their table and now it was just time for January to arrive. Yes, this was a Muggle establishment, but Fletcher had ah, quite literally secured the location so that if anyone were to eavesdrop on their Very Important Appointment, they would merely hear the sound of buzzing bees and clinking silverware. Odd time of year for bees to be out in London, but it was what it was.
--------------------- Setting:- January 2100
- the Shard, London
- evening time
Characters:- January Bones (sarahlooo)
- Fletcher (BanaBatGirl)
- ?? ? this spot is reserved in case perhaps someone would like to play our waiter ?

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia It had been quite amusing to her that the date had been won by her own Junior Undersecretary. It was even more amusing that he really seemed to making this an actual date. The setting, the restaurant, the view... You know, if she hadn't been happily married for fifteen years, she would be impressed. Now she was just curious. Was he trying to butter her up? Impress her for some reason? Or was this really just his style? She supposed she would find out. January arrived right on time and checked in at the entry. As she was led to the table, she spotted Duncan Fletcher already at his seat with a wonderful night view of London. She thanked the hostess as she gestured to their table. "If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were trying to impress me," January said with the hint of a smile, indicating that she DID kind of assume that he was trying to impress her... and she was going to give him a hard time about it. |

Aha, there she was. His boss. Fletcher was not at all nervous and not at all trying to impress her. What would give someone that impression? He did stand up when she arrived at their table though and waited for her to be seated and pushed in before he said anything.
"Well," the junior undersecretary shrugged as though they were just hanging out in the office like any other day, "either you do know better, or my master plan has worked already and you are impressed?" Fletcher cracked a grin at January. Surely it was the latter, huh? "I figured that I might as well make the most of the opportunity for us to have some fun outside of work. I don't know about you, but I enjoy treating myself to the finer things every once in a while...." He glanced out at the view. "So, anyway, you look very nice, Mrs. Bones. Have you been here before?" It was a Muggle establishment, so he didn't blame her if she hadn't.

If it was something he was worried about, she thought it might be fun to keep him on his toes. And if not, then no harm done. "Thank you," she said when he pushed her seat in for her.
Glancing around now that she was seated, she listened to Fletcher as he spoke. Yes, the finer things in life. January liked to splurge on occasion as well, though she had a feeling it wasn't as often as he did. "No, I haven't ever been here before," she said, politely ignoring his compliment for professionalism's sake. "It seems lovely, though." And it seemed like an establishment that had a good wine selection. She did like wine. "I have to say, Fletcher," she said as her eyes scanned the menu. "I am glad it was you who won the bid." She had an eye on her table where the bids were placed on occasion and had been mildly concerned a time or two. "You know, since I'm already somewhat familiar with you." And because she had zero interest in impressing him, so this really was just a great opportunity for free wine and food. He was paying, wasn't he? |

And because she had zero interest in impressing him, so this really was just a great opportunity for free wine and food. He was paying, wasn't he? Fletcher was just going to take this all in stride. It seemed to him that maybe January was hard to impress? Was she tough and icy, and full of cold wind, like the month she was named after? This was his impression of her, sometimes, it seemed, so far. Maybe he just didn't know her well enough yet.
Ah, alright. He was going to pretend she was impressed then. "Yeah, they," you know, the Muggles, "can build nice things for themselves -- and us -- to enjoy on occasion," he leaned in to say. Don't worry, boss; he wasn't breaking the statute of secrecy, even though he had already charmed the place up and down. "Would you like a drink?" He sure would.
Fletcher also picked up his menu to scan their cocktail selection, and moved it a second too slowly to hide his somewhat interested expression. She was glad he'd won the bid? Huh. Because of... familiarity? Wow, such a compliment. Not. "But don't you know just about everyone at work?" Fletcher looked up from the menu, his brow a little bit furrowed. "I'm just new. I thought this was a good opportunity, you see." Or was January worried that someone... unsavory would win the bid? He was suddenly reminded of some headline he'd read about her in the Daily Prophet, a few years back...
"Didn't you use to have a stalker or something?" he started to chuckle, looking back down at the menu. "Good thing that guy didn't win, huh." Heh heh.

"Didn't you use to have a stalker or something?" he started to chuckle, looking back down at the menu. "Good thing that guy didn't win, huh." Heh heh. Whether or not she was cold and icy or just not very good at socializing, well... that was up to him to decide. But she was still finding it a bit odd that she was going on a "date" with her newest hire. "Yes, they can, it just takes them quite a bit longer," she said with a slightly amused smile. Her hands automatically went to the napkin at her place setting. She unfolded it and placed it on her lap while she glanced at the menu, looking over the drink options.
It was true she knew just about everyone at work. Though, some workers on the lower levels she didn't know too well, since they were so far away. "Perhaps, but, like you say, this is a good opportunity. After all, we'll be working close together." Is that what he was implying? Or was he trying to find everything about her so he could butter her up or something?
She laughed a little at the mention of her stalker. Thankfully it was something she could laugh about now. "Yes, I did. And yes... very good thing." Though in that case, she wouldn't have actually gone on the date. |

He wasn't sure at all what he wanted; fish, maybe? Fletcher peeked at January across the menu momentarily.
"Right, so, let's get to know each other better. Tell me how you came to work at the Ministry?" And of course, this went without saying, but since she was looking at her menu, he added, "Order anything you'd like. Maybe you can think of this as an advance thank-you for teaching me all about the Ministry, as I'm sure you will. A thank-you for this new job."
For which he was really very grateful. And not at all weird or creepy like her stalker. "He never actually hurt you, did he?" Fletcher asked, his face concerned.

It didn't take her long to decide on a meal to order, so January followed Fletcher's lead and took a sip of her wine as well. She set her glass down as he asked about her start at the ministry. Merlin, that was a long time ago. Longer if she considered her time in the ministry in Italy. "Well, I started here quite some time ago," a woman did not reveal her age, after all, "In the Magical Creatures department. I worked with the Spirits division, helping with containment and control and relocation." And ghosts were hard to relocate. "I did that for several years until I was promoted to the Senior Undersecretary to the Minister about five years ago." Which was a huge promotion that she hadn't necessarily been qualified for, but that was when Morgan P. Nickels was the Minister and he was... well, he was insane. Luckily for her, she was good at learning on the spot.
As for her stalker... "No, thankfully we never came in contact. I had quite the security detail for a while to ensure that." |

The waiter finally came and delivered bread to their table, as well as taking their orders. Fletcher had decided upon the steak and scallops, and stuck to it, feeling smug about his selection. Once the waiter walked away, he resumed their conversation about work, buttering a roll for himself as they talked.
"I wouldn't have pegged you for a Creatures person," he admitted affably, though on second though, it did make sense that January had worked with ghosts and spirits. She seemed calm enough for that task. "I imagine that would be interesting work though. What drew you to spirits?"
She did seem more like someone to work in the Minister's office though. Fletcher nodded, looking thoughtful as he wondered how she had acquired a stalker. "Do you think it was someone at the Ministry?" Maybe someone who no longer worked there? What a mystery! He was so interested in this. Fletcher could be a detective; just let him try.
