This is a bit unorthodox but, this thread is dedicated to role playing random "What if?" scenarios with various canon and non-canon (established made-up) characters. This idea grew out of Erin and Kris' boredom one night when they found themselves unable to post in any of their 3-4 established Role Plays. The intended purpose is not to gather people but, rather, to play at the spur of the moment. I'd almost like to think of these rather like the EEFFDs where we challenge ourselves to RP a random scene in a matter of a night or so. Perhaps we'll come up with something we'd like to explore further in another RP but, for now...

Hermione was grouchy, which didn't seem to be that unusual these days. NEWTs were fast approaching and everything seemed to be getting in the way of studying. Even Ron and Harry were taking things fairly seriously, which showed how serious the situation really was. It was strange that they'd decided to be out of bounds a few nights back, but Hermione supposed that boys will be boys and they'd needed the bit of adventure to relieve some stress.

Of course, it didn't help that the Invisibility Cloak was getting much too small for the three of them and it had pulled off of HER while they were in the Entrance Hall. Snape had smacked her in detention so fast her head was still spinning. To make matters worse, he'd been called away suddenly, so here she was serving detention in the Hospital Wing. She pulled the sheets viciously off another bed and banished them across the room to the hamper before ripping open the curtains to the next cubicle.

"Oh..."

The curtain was flung open to reveal a girl and Dean dove behind the bed and tried to scurry into his pants as fast as he could. "Her... Hermione!" he yelled, startled and in a fair bit of pain from his scare. He stood up after he was fairly decently dressed, chest bare, his left arm in a sling.

Hermione gasped and covered her eyes but didn't move from her spot. "Dean Thomas! What do you think you're doing wandering around in the Hospital Wing with no clothes on?" When he seemed to be still again and she felt confident that she'd given him sufficient time to get dressed, Hermione uncovered her eyes. She shrugged helplessly and pointed to the sheets on his bed. "I was told to collect sheets. Madame Pomfrey didn't say anyone was back here. What happened?"

I'm going to start with the getting off the Express after the term is over, if that's alright (we can do the other scene later

Day levitated her trunk and began to walk off the train. She was grateful the others had left her alone in her own compartment as she had enjoyed the peace of just staring out the window without worrying about when someoen was going to start asking her if she was okay or if she needed anything. She was so tired, both physically and mentally, after all that had happened on top of exams that she just needed this train ride to allow her thoughts a rest.

She stepped onto the platform and looked around. She wasn't even sure if her mother was going to bother coming for her. Somehow, Day figured her mother would be too disappointed to show up, just as she hadn't bothered to write in the past couple of months. Day supposed she could stay in the Leaky Cauldron for a while until she could find someplace more permanent to live, though she'd need to find a job and what with the child on the way... She shook her head, wishing she had spent less time daydreaming and more time thinking of practical things on the ride 'home'.

Wyn squeezed Jay's hand and ran after Day, but the running was unnecessary as Day stood uncertainly in the middle of the platform. "Day," Wyn paused uncertainly in front of her friend and shifted back and forth. There weren't many words she could share that would be of comfort at this point, but they shared their grief, and that helped Wyn at least.

"I..." Wyn licked her lips and looked over her shoulder in the direction of Jay, who chatted unconcernedly with his parents. "I want you to come stay at the Darcy Manor with me," her words came out in a rush.

Day stared at Wyn for moment, not really hearing what she had said. When it finally sank in, she turned her head to watch Jay before looking back at Wyn. "I couldn't," she said, disappointed but, not wanting to impose. "I just couldn't. You and Jay have waited for time alone and as much as I would have loved to a few months ago, I just couldn't get in the way of you two."

Wyn shook her head. "No, we're still not going to be alone. Not for a little while. I'm going back to stay at the family home, since my father is in Azkhaban. I really don't want to be there alone. You'd be doing me a favor." She looked hopeful, and it was sincere. She hadn't been home in such a long time, and not at all since her family had cast her out and her father had been imprisoned.

"Well," Day said, looking down at what she could still see of her feet. "I do sort of need a place to stay. I haven't heard from my mother in months and it doesn't look like she's come to pick me up. I assume that means I've disappointed her and won't be welcome back home. I don't really have anywhere else to go..."

"See," Wyn tucked her arm through Day's and began to propel her towards Jay. "It's perfect. We need each other. And if you said no, I'd have tied you up and found some house elves to carry you for me. I fully intend to help you with that baby."

Day smiled and almost laughed. "Thanks, Wyn. I hate to admit it but, I think I'm going to need all the help I can get. I just don't know what's going to happen, what to do, or... I just don't know anything."

Fast forward five years

...

The twins had put up a fuss that night, but they were getting harder and harder to put to bed as their fourth birthday approached. Wyn finally left Jay giving them a stern talking to that would probably evolve into a puppet show with their teddy bears, but she wanted to poke her head in to check on JJ. The five-year-old had developed a bit of an independent streak and wanted to put himself to bed.

Day was closing the door to his bedroom, and Wyn assumed that her friend's daughter was spending the night with JJ again. She smiled at her friend and pointed in the direction of the sitting room downstairs. "Are they asleep? Let's have some tea while the wild things settle down."

"Yes, they are, finally. We really need to break them of this habit of theirs. It's nice that they are so close but, they need to start getting to sleep in their own rooms," she smiled as she walked down the hall with Wyn.

It had been nearly five years since she had first moved into this house with Wyn and Jay. Never in her wildest dreams would she have imagined her life to be like this. She would have laughed at anyone who had suggested this would be her life when she had been in school on the path to becoming a Death Eater and the Dark Lord's right hand. "Are the twins still giving you trouble? Too bad I couldn't have had any other children to keep them company," she laughed again.

Wyn shook her head as the descended the stairs. "Those two are company enough for each other. As soon as Alexa is down, Andrea is up, and then you get Andi down, and Lex pops back up. And as tiring as it is to sit with them while they fight sleep, they just turn those big eyes on you and tell you they need to 'pway, pwease.' I'm surprised Jay can ever get them to sleep, the big pushover." She sighed in relief at the tray sitting ready for her in the sitting room. "You can have more of your own if you wanted to..." Wyn was hesitant to pick up the old discussion they'd had about Day's willingness, or lack of willingness, to go out and see men.

"No, I don't think so. One is plenty for me," Day replied. "Not that you don't enjoy all three of your children, I don't think I could could handle that on my own."

She knew Wyn was merely hinting at the subject of many of their conversations over the years but, she just couldn't see other people. John had been everything and she just couldn't bear to bring up their child with another man. Day sat down and the two old friends began their nightly ritual of tea time after getting the children off to bed. She shifted in her seat a bit as she settled down with her cup, unsure as to how to broach the subject she wished to discuss with Wyn.

The two lapsed into comfortable silence for several long minutes before Wyn finally broached the subject again. She knew Day would never consent to let another man into her life, but Wyn worried that her friend might be lonely for companionship. "You're silly, Day. You didn't have to handle her on your own, just like I didn't handle my three alone. Jay and I would help." Day opened her mouth and Wyn waved her teacup at her. "Not that I'm saying you should go out and get pregnant with any Wizard on the street. I'm just saying you aren't alone."

"Yeah, I know I'm not really alone but... Wyn, I think it's probably time for me to move on," she said, taking a sip of her tea before looking over at her friend.

Wyn looked at her friend and cocked her head, the smile frozen uncertainly on her face. "Move on from what? Where? We're not talking about you getting out more and having more children anymore, are we?" Wyn wished Jay were there, although she knew he wouldn't have anything useful to add to the conversation. He simply acted as a large calming agent in the room, and she knew she could use that right now.

Day looked in the doorway as if to see Jay there, he always seemed to know when the two women could use his calming influence which Day had grown accustomed to over the years. But, he wasn't there and, in a way, she was glad. This was something she'd rather discuss with Wyn alone because while she had grown accustomed to Jay, she still had a slight niggling distrust or warriness when it came to the Gryffindor. Perhaps it was due to the fact that she had once attempted to kill him and had instead caused the death of one of his best friends.

In any case, Day took another sip of tea and shook her head. "No, we aren't talking about me having more children. We're talking about me moving out with my daughter. We began to overstay our welcome a long time ago," she said, and held up a hand. "No, let me finish. I know we've helped each other over the years but, you five really need to be left alone to be a family while I should really be getting on with my own life. Thanks to your generosity, I've been able to save up enough money by working nights at the hospital in order to purchase us a couple of tickets on a muggle aeroplane and even buy a small cottage in a small wizarding village where we can start fresh."

Wyn opened her mouth several times, looking foolish in the process. "Where will you go? Oh, Day," she set down her tea cup and slipped from her seat, kneeling on the floor next to where her friend sat. "You don't have to go. It isn't about overstaying your welcome. We're a family now, all seven of us. Its as if..." She didn't want to reopen old wounds and remind them both of John, but John had been like a brother to her, making Day and her daughter blood relative close.

"I know," Day said, smiling down at Wyn. "I know I don't have to go and it isn't that I don't feel like part of your family. It's just... time. I first came here because I was lost and had nowhere else to go. I never really had time to get over John before being thrown out into the world. But, I've had my time, more than enough of it, and it's just time I found my own place, away from everything. I want a brand new start without any reminders of the past to prevent me from doing whatever it is I'm going to set out to do."

She smiled down mischeiveously. "Maybe I'll finally settle down with another man, like you and Jay always hoped I would."

Wyn had known Day long enough to recognize she wasn't going to talk the other woman out of this plan. She'd been a wonderful addition to their family, despite all the healing they'd had to do, and Wyn would miss her sorely. She put out her hand and set it on top of Day's. "Will you tell me where you are going? Will you visit?"

"I'm not really sure what will happen once we get there but, I will try and visit," Day said trying a smile. "I'm planning to take us over to the United States. There's a small wizarding village in New Hampshire that might be nice to settle down in."

"You'll write?" Wyn sat back on her heels and took in Day's face, trying to read her features. Jay was better at these things than she was, but she was glad to have this moment with her friend. Perhaps it would be good for the Winston family to be alone as well, to learn what it was like to be just the Winstons. "JJ will be heart-broken if you don't write. We all will."

"We'll definitely write, that's not too hard to do. Arranging transatlantic transportation for a visit might be a bit restricting for a visit but, sending a letter by post isn't much effort at all if you chose the right bird."

Day knelt down beside Wyn and gave her a hug. "I'll miss you, though."
