| not throwing away my shot | Slytherpuff | roll for initiative | woof you ❤ Oliver was wearing what he usually did while he painted; jeans and a plain t-shirt. Today's was white with a logo from a previous show from the very same theater they were volunteering at today. Both shirt and jeans were of course dotted with paint. As an artist, many items of clothes he owned were dotted with paint. Today it was particularly fitting, because they were going to be painting. There was no use wearing clean clothes when they were probably just going to get paint on them anyway.
He was well versed in backstage set painting. He had been volunteering at this theater for a few years now. They knew him and trusted his work and generally left him to his own devices once he was informed about the specific projects for the show. This show was particularly special because Alexei and Elena had been cast as ensemble members. Both of them had been cast, luckily. When they'd auditioned he'd briefly worried what would happen if only one of them had gotten cast but luckily they hadn't had to cross that bridge. The cast was encouraged to get experience in all aspects of theater, including set design, so Oliver brought them along with him for his regular volunteering. They'd come with him before, so that part wouldn't really be new, but doing it as part of a cast would be. And this time Dragomir had come along as well, which always overjoyed Oliver of course. "We're doing some texture," he said with a smile as he brought paint supplies over to his husband. He'd had a brief conversation with the lead set designer and was given the task of painting a stone wall, which was always fun. The twins, along with a few other younger cast members, were assigned a simpler solid color background panel to paint. Oliver plopped down on the ground and peered at two very similar color grays. "Which one do you think is a better stone?" Elena wanted to daaaance. She'd come with her hair in pigtails, wearing a twirly pink dress. Her dad had told her it maybe wasn't the best choice for painting, but had ultimately let her make her own decision about what she wanted to wear. She didn't care that it wasn't a good dress for painting, it was a good dress for twirling. She had done several twirls that morning, and several more upon arrival at the theater. She was enjoying rehearsals and getting to dance, and she wanted to do more of that. Except that wasn't what they were doing today. They were painting today. It wasn't that she didn't like painting, she did, but today she would much rather dance than do work. Even if that work was painting it was still technically work. She'd tried to do some more twirling while they were being given instructions, and the lady in charge had just told her they were there to paint and put a paintbrush in her hand. Her paintbrush still didn't have any paint on it and she was seated on the ground next to her twin, her legs straight out in front of her as she practiced touching her toes. |

| Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight Despite the fact he had been watching his husband paint for years, since long before they were husbands, art was one of those areas Dragomir had not ventured into much. That was not to say he never had, just that when he had tried, he'd been terrible at it. Just terrible. So, while Dragomir had long admired the kind of dance the artist (and specifically Oliver) did with his paints and his canvas - the constant moving in and out with the paintbrush - he'd accepted it wasn't for him. Perhaps because he needed much more movement.
This, though? This he could do, and wanted to, especially as it meant they'd be working at it as a family. He turned from the twins towards Oliver as he came back, and smiled. "Texture. Perfect." Dragomir joined Oliver, crouching down beside him, and looked blankly at the two greys. "Uh..." They looked exactly the same to him, or close enough that it didn't make much difference (this being another reason why he was not one of the painters in this family). "Lena? Lyosha? What do you think?" _____ Alexei sat cross-legged beside Elena. Unlike her, his paintbrush did have paint on it, only that paint wasn't yet going on anything they needed to paint. He was a little unhappy that they'd just been given solid colour to paint, and that he couldn't do something a little more interesting, like their parents. Maybe they would let him join them, though. Later.
For now, Alexei had taken to painting his hand using a pot of white and a smaller brush that he'd borrowed. The back of his hand, not the palm, because he didn't like touching wet or sticky things. Didn't even like picking up greasy food with his fingertips. On the back of his hand he was attempting to paint what his bones must look like on the inside, only he didn't know for sure, and was doing a lot of guessing based on how they moved and what it felt like. Focused as he was on this, Alexei didn't look up until he heard his name.
He'd not heard the question, but guessed that it was something to do with what colour they should use or start with. He regarded both paints carefully for a moment, then pointed to the one on the left. "That one," he said, then turned to Elena. "Can I paint your hand? I ran out." Actually, Alexei's right hand was still unpainted, but that was his painting hand. His left was too clumsy to simply switch over.

| not throwing away my shot | Slytherpuff | roll for initiative | woof you ❤ Oliver's eyes were flitting back and forth between the color options. He glanced over at his husband and smiled when he seemed at a loss for an answer. That was okay, the question was mostly rhetorical anyway. He knew he would probably make the final decision but he'd wanted to pose the question anyway in case Dragomir did have a preference. He also knew practically that whichever gray they went with would be just fine. He glanced toward the twins when Dragomir asked for their opinion. "You're getting more paint on your hand than on the set, Alexei," he commented. Though he was one to talk. He did really enjoy body painting. And when he was that age he also would have been much more eager to paint what he wanted, and not necessarily what he was told.
The paint his son pointed was the one he had been thinking too, so he nodded and selected that one. He also picked a darker gray before turning back to Dragomir. "So this will be the stone color, and this one is for the outlines of the stones and accents. Do you want to start on outlining and I can add some texture?" He thought outlining might be a little bit more approachable. And it could be as messy or uneven as he wanted because that was realistic. ___ Elena did not care about grays, sorry dad, sorry tatko. She just nodded along when Alexei pointed at one. Whichever one he thought was better she agreed. Definitely. It had less to do with the color and more to do with the fact that she would blindly support her twin in anything. If you asked her, the wall would look much better if it was pink. But nobody had asked her. "Oooh, yes," she said immediately when Alexei asked if he could paint on her hand. She held out both hands toward him, palm down. "Are you going to paint my bones too? Can you make them pink?" Or purple, she wasn't picky. And now if someone wanted to make her paint she would have an excuse as to why she couldn't. If her hands had paint on them she simply couldn't do something that would mess it up. |
