Hogwarts did have a gentler approach with these things compared to what he would've done. Not that it mattered now.
"Well then, I suppose you need your old man's help lifting the lid." Albert clasped the back of Aramis with his hand and started to feel the groove that separated the top of the sarcophagus from the rest of its body. "This is such a tedious job for tall people..." Albert almost whined at the task, thinking about his lower back and the pain it could induce if he lifted the lid the wrong way, "Bend your knees, son. This is bad news for our backs." They still had a long way to go in the race, apparently.
On the count of three, the lid was lifted up and inside the sarcophagus was a golden scarab. Albert took a moment to look at it, quite disappointed not finding a mummy guarding it by the way, and slowly reached out for the artefact. "Well...I suppose this is our key," he said handing the scarab to Aramis for him to expect it. "Next stop would be the Sphinx. That's North East from here. Let's move." Albert nodded to his son, got his wand out and used it as their compass. There was no way he would've memorised the path leading out. "Point me," As the wand pointed them North, the elder Morgenstern lead the way out to their next destination.
One could almost see the boy stand a bit straighter as his dad said that he was impressed with him. "Thanks Dad." He said with a bit of a happy lilt in his voice. He might have to Owl Professor Hirsch later on and tell him how much his classes helped in a real world situation.
Speaking of, he needed to get his head back to said situation.
He helped his dad lift the Sarcophagus, knees bent of course and he tried to lift as much as possible so he could take on more of the strain than his father. He was after all younger and more athletic. He could take some strain.
He held up the lid while his father got the scarab and he eyed it for a moment as he set the lid back down and took the object from his father. "It seems like it, sort of odd for a key but.." Aramis took it all the same and he stuck it in his pocket and smiled as he looked at his Dad.
Sphinx.. he was not looking forward to that. Now he was almost wishing he had brought Dylan along so she could solve the riddle. After all, she was a Ravenclaw! She had to answer Riddles all the time.
He hoped some of her riddle solving skills had brushed off on him.

Levi turned his attention randomly to the rest of the room when the Summoning Charm was done. Would there be a scarab surging towards his partner? He could only wait and see...
Right.
Had to have the wand at the ready just in case Ari needed help.
It was nice that Levi agreed with her idea, but Arielle had been hoping that SOMETHING would have happened. Looked like those part wasn't going to be as easy as the barrier. Honestly that kind of made her happy in a way because otherwise there was no challenge and what would be the fun in that? She bit her lip. "Either there is magic keeping us from summoning it, or its concealed in something."
Just so long as it wasn't in the sarcophagus because Arielle did not do touching ancient dead dudes. Not for all the money in Gringotts. "Do you know any spells that would completely negate curses? Because I am thinking that might be a good course of action." Then they could make sure that things were safe and actually pick up objects in the room and look at them properly. "I really think it's inside something, but I'm worried to touch even the smallest thing..." These ancient Egyptians went crazy with their curses. "I have a bad feeling it's in the sarcophagus. That seems like the kind of thing they would do." Or maybe she thought it because it was the one place she REALLY didn't want to look.

While the pair of humans might be looking for a constructed sphinx built by human hands, it was an actual sphinx that they needed to be looking for. Taking a few leisurely steps in the sand, she trained her eyes on the figures emerging from the great pyramid. Ah, the first of her playthings. Okay they could do this and she was going in a pyramid. Wait until she told the kids about this. She knew they'd be all excited and she had pictures to show what she had done. Looking around she took her hand and held onto his arm so she wouldn't lose him or had him close if needed.

Zephyr started jogging alongside Austin in the hot high roasting sun of early afternoon.. Luckily he had tied his headscarf low enough n his brow to mop up the sweat that would've surely been running down his face had he not had it.
" What the?... ", Zeph exclaimed as he saw some movement in the distance... But it's WHAT he saw moving that caught his attention. " Yo!..
Austin!.... Look at that!.. That sure does look like a sphinx... Doesn't it? ", he added." What if we're supposed to go to that one and not the statue?"
He started to slow down a little.." Maybe we should head over to it.. Aren't we supposed to bring the thingy to it and answer a riddle or something?"
After a minor course change he picked up speed .. The nearer the creature grew the more excited Zephyr became. This truly was the most fun he'd had in his young life.

"Dude this heat is a killer... if I ever say I'm moving somewhere really hot remind me of this day, okay?" he commented after just a few moments of jogging over the sand. This heat was brutal.
"Wha-?" Austin asked skidding to a stop, his bright blue eyes focusing in on what was up ahead. "Makes sense if we are. Why else would it be here just laying there like that?" Kinda gave him a strange feeling honestly as he watched the Sphinx for a minute or two longer.
"Head over with cautious, Zeph. I believe we have to greet it and present it with the scarbe thing and answer the riddle, yeah. Hope you brushed up on riddle answering, man," he grinned at Zephyr.
With a small chuckle he began jogging once again this time headed towards the Sphinx. The closer they got he began to slow down to a walk.

Zeph was in complete agreeance.. This heat was flippin' ridiculous!... How did anyone live out here?..It took all of a few minutes of jogging in the heat to saturate the scarf that he had wrapped around his head to shade him and keep his eyes clear of the salty fluid that was now running freely anyhow..
" Oh... Believe me.. I will...", Zeph said with a light chuckle. " Yeah.. Best be on guard as we get closer.. Something tells me this'll be alot harder than it sounds on paper, Dude.."
After rearranging his head scarf and mopping his eyes he set off at a decent jog again alongside his partner towards the Sphinx.slowly they approached and slowed to a walk .. " Get the scarab thing out of your bag, Aus... We're nearly there... How do ya greet a Sphinx anyhow?"

Never had he been more happy to be wearing that head scarf around his head. If it weren't for that thing there would be sweat dripping down his face into his eyes making it difficult to see.
"Good, good. I doubt Sam would even approve of this kind of heat and that girl can practically live outdoors in the summer," he answered with a small grin. He wasn't joking either, Sammy was always outside whenever she could be. "Exactly. The easier something sounds... the harder it typically is." Either way he was ready for this.
Austin reached into his bag feeling around for the scarab and pulling it out. "I'm not entirely sure but I recommend not getting to close right away..." he told Zeph simply. He paused several feet away from the Sphinx and held out his hand, palm up, the scarab laying on his palm.
He was going to approach with caution or maybe not at all until told to do so.

Of course it didn't work. There was obviously stronger magic that kept the item from being Summoned. Now that they had eliminated the Summoning Charm, they could try something else. "Yes, I agree but I think there's magic that's keeping it from being Summoned. Let's continue looking, we don't want to be left behind.''
Levi's attention turned back to the artefacts when Ariel suggested the amulet could be hidden in them. "That would be exactly the sort of thing they would do,'' he said in agreement. "The sarcophagus, eh? How about we cast Finite first then try to open it? Here. I can do it. Finite! Alohomora!''

And the sarcophagus began to open.
Levi leaned forward to peer in.
Sending a smile to Levi, Arielle gave a small shrug as if to say 'it was worth a shot'. And really it hadn't done them any harm. The entire thing had only taken a few seconds after all. "Well, whatever it is I am sure that we will figure it out in no time and get the scarab." This McDean was determined and she knew that her friend was feeling it just as much as her.
They were in agreement about the artifact possibly being in the sarcophagus, and Arielle waited excitedly as he used his wand to cast Finite and then Alohomora. "Hah, those dead Egyptians never thought that we would be able to get their stuff using magic." Or that their tomb thing would be a part of a competition, but whatever. The important thing right now was that they were possibly seconds away from being finished this part of the competition. "Do you see anything?" she asked as she tried to get a good view on the inside. "I think I see something, but I am not sure if it's what we want." If it was, she could just about kiss Levi in her current excitement.
Never had he been more happy to be wearing that head scarf around his head. If it weren't for that thing there would be sweat dripping down his face into his eyes making it difficult to see.

Zephyr smiled as Austin spoke of Samara... Thank Merlin this trip was keeping him occupied. He missed his Tiny desperately when they were apart and he'd never been this far away since they had gotten together. " Oh yeah?... Good to know, Bro... I'm into anything that has to do with the outdoors too.. ", he asked and then claimed.
Slowly he walked closer as he was looking up at this magnificient beast."
I totally agree.. Just don't get too close until it tells us to approach fully?".. Truth be told he had no Idea what to say to the Sphinx, but he figured he'd give it a good ole American try..
" Oh great and Wise One... We come bearing you a gift from the Great Pyramid... A scarab artifact you seek... Please stir and to us do speak?... ", He called up to the sphinx as he presented them while Austin offered it the stone statue in his hand. He thought his greeting seemed rather clever being that they'd be having to answer some sort of riddle given to them by the sphinx.

He bent closer to examine within the sarcophagus. "It's the golden scarab,'' he announced triumphantly. Yes! They had found it! "There's something else there too... looks like an amulet.''
Levi looked to Ari. "We have to be careful about touching and removing any artefacts including the scarab. I know that amulets were believed to have powers infused in them. Do you think we could use the amulet here as protection to remove the scarab?'' He wasn't quite sure as how they could go about doing that but maybe Ari knew how? Or she had another idea.

The smile that formed on his friends face each time he mentioned Sam made him smirk. Man this guy had it bad for his baby sis. "Oh, yeah. She was always the first that was outside getting into something, the first one to run off with Jer at her side getting themselves lost," he laughed remembering the numerous amount of times that Samara and Jeremy couldn't be 'found'.
Austin didn't need to be told twice. There was no way he was going to get himself attacked when there was no reason for that to happen. While Zeph greeted the sphinx for the both of them, Aus continued to hold the scarab out in his hand in offering. He wasn't entirely sure if their greeting was on point or not but it was something.
All they needed now was for the sphinx to accept or deny their offering and give them the riddle. One they could easily solve would be nice.

Hehe. Of course Levi agreed with her, because she had common sense. Arielle was sure that they would be able to figure things out and get the scarab without being cursed for the rest of their lives; they had magic AND intelligence on their side. "Aha! I KNEW that they would do something like this." It would be a good way for them to mess with the contestants. "Didn't take us too long either." Good, because she was starting to feel a bit closed in here. Claustrophobia was never a lot of fun...
Hmm. Levi had a good point; it would definitely be safer to try and use the amulet to get the scarab out. Otherwise they might end up being cursed at the last minute. "Yes. I think that the amulets were often jewelry... so maybe if I wear it around my neck it will let me touch the scarab." As she spoke, she carefully reached in and extracted it while being careful not to touch the scarab. After placing it around her neck, she bit her lip. "If this doesn't work and I end up being cursed... I really hope you can manage to help me." Seriously though, Arielle trusted him to do that.
Here goes nothing... she thought as she reached into the sarcophagus for the artifact.

Ari was right.
It did not take them long. This was why they were the ideal partners- they worked well together. Levi watched her consider their options for removing the artefacts while his own brain tried to come up with a solution. Ari's, though, startled him. What? Was she insane? Before he could say anything, she had retrieved the amulet.
"Are you sure?'' Levi was nervous. Egyptians and their artefacts should not be easily trusted. He smiled slightly. "Of course. Nothing will happen.'' He wouldn't let it. Wand at the ready for an emergency, he watched her hand go for the scarab.

Fortunately Arielle couldn't read Levi's mind and feel his doubt over the whole thing; while it wouldn't discourage her from what she was about to do, it might have caused her to pause for a moment. Everything would be okay because she was a McDean and they always got out on top. Plus she knew that he could be counted on to help out if something DID happen. She was counting on him and she had better not disappoint her. Not that he WOULD...
"I think so," she said with a nod before grabbing hold of the scarab. "I'm okay... Maybe. Do curses work immediately?" As it was Arielle felt the same as always, but maybe it was too soon to tell if something had gone wrong.

Levi was holding his breath. Actually, he hadn't realised he was until after about a minute after Ari had grabbed the scarab. She looked the same- no discoloration of skin or nothing horrible of the sort. So far, so good. "Yes, they do,'' he responded honestly but then added some encouraging words. "I bet the amulet was the trick. You'll be safe, Ari.'' Just the same, he was going to keep an eye out for anything
"Let's get going. We need to find that sphinx.'' Levi wasn't particularly sad to leave this room behind. He just wanted to get to the next leg of the competition and to ensure that his partner was fine. He moved for the entrance of the room so they could retrace their steps. Luckily they marked their path.

Levi's confirmation had Arielle giving a sigh of relief. She had thought that most likely, but hadn't wanted to take risks when it came to curses; even though she was far from a coward in most regards, she was not foolish enough to take such things lightly. Curses could do VERY terrible things to a person. "Yes, I think you're right," she added feeling reassured. He really was helping her to feel better right now with his logic and practicality. Nothing bad had happened, so clearly the amulet WAS working...
There was no needing to be told twice for Arielle to make her way out of that chamber. "The sooner I get out of this place, the better." It really could be hard keeping claustrophobia at bay, but just so long as the spaces weren't TOO small she would be okay. It was just when she felt squeezed in and as if she couldn't breathe that problems really arose. "I'm so glad that we marked off where we came from. Now we can retrace our steps and go from there. Maybe we should go off in the opposite direction from the one we went in to get the scarab?" Just a thought; obviously she had no idea how effective it would be until they tried it. Of course if Levi wanted to go another way they could do that instead.

Ari was not in any trouble so far. Levi sincerely hoped that she would continue to be that way. Hmm... two possibilities. Should they go in the opposite direction and risk the unknown? Meaning they could run into something that they didn't want to encounter. "Let's go back the way we came because it might be safer since we didn't see anything dangerous on the way in.''
Levi looked over to Ari. "Are you still feeling well?'' And as he spoke, he began retracing their path. His wand was still held aloof because he wanted to be prepared lest mummies come creeping up on them.

Nodding, Arielle was more than satisfied with that course of action; there was no real way for them to know what could possibly be waiting in the opposite direction from which they had come, but they knew that the way back should be completely safe. Well, unless the people running this thing decided to troll everyone and make returning impossible. That would NOT be cool.
"I am so far, though I won't lie that I want to get out of this place quickly. Shouldn't be too hard to get back at least. Though I'm not sure if there is more than one way out of here..." What if there was a shortcut or something? Maybe it was best not to risk it. Arielle wasn't usually one to play it safe, but things were a bit different when she spent more than enough time in an ancient pyramid.

Ari was feeling fine, she looked fine and all was well. Hoping to keep it that way, Levi continued leading the way. Again he silently thanked Merlin that they had had the sense to mark their route out. "Keep an eye out, Ari. Don't want anything sneaking up on us.'' And even if any did, Levi was ready to kick butt.
Minutes later, he noticed light up ahead. "I think that's the entrance!'' This meant they would be out of this forsaken place soon. "All we need to do is to find that sphinx. Wonder where it would be... we'll probably need to search some distance from the pyramid. It shouldn't bee too hard to spot unless it's concealed.''
Moments later, he stepped out into the blazing sunlight.

Riiiiiiight. Looking out behind them... That was something that Arielle hadn't considered until Levi mentioned it, but now she was definitely going to do so. And was feeling a little jumpy, not that she would EVER let him know about that. It was just with them being in the pyramid for such a long time she was starting to feel closed in. Claustrophobia was never a nice thing, and she HATED imagining the possibility of them getting lost in this maze and not being able to find their way outside without having to ask for help. She wasn't sure how they would have set about doing that, but surely there had been some way that they could contact the people running the competition; not that she would ever had done that, because she really wanted for them to win this thing. It was going to happen even if it meant facing her phobia. "I don't see anything, so I think that we are all good." And right now she was feeling really happy that they had been smart enough to mark off where they had come from because otherwise they would have been lost.
"Thank Merlin we are away from that awful place!" she said happily as soon as she stepped out into the sunlight. Arielle wasn't even thinking about the next part of the competition because she was just so pleased about being out in the open. Even if it was incredibly hot; not as if the pyramid had air conditioning or anything. "Right, the sphinx... That's the cat with the woman's head, right?" Just wanting to make sure that she was correct about that because it was important to know what they were looking for. "I am sure that she is close by. I can't see anything in the distance though... Should we try a revealing charm? Or do you want to walk a bit and see if we can find her that way?" By now they were aware of how sneaky these show runners could be, but they couldn't hide EVERYTHING, could they?

They had made it out!
Out and into the sweltering heat which made Levi positive that he was going to melt into a pool of glorious pudding. Or something just as delicious. When this was over, he was going to lock himself in a room that was fully air conditioned. As it was, at present they needed to find that sphinx. "Let's try both,'' he said, liking Ari's suggestions. "We can both try at the same time, that way we can cover more ground.''
Levi raised his wand. He walked a few paces then cast the Charm.
Nothing.
But he wasn't about to give up. He moved on to keep on trying. Hopefully Ari was having better luck than he was.

Despite the fact that they had only emerged from the pyramid moments ago, Arielle was already feeling that the heat was too much to bear. How did people live in a place like this??? It was absolutely mind boggling, though she did know that after a time it was natural to get used to such things; she was not going to be one of said people because she was going to avoid hot places once this competition was over. What kind of torture were they in for next? That would be revealed soon enough, but for the moment they needed to focus on the task at hand and find the sphinx. On the plus side it wouldn't exactly be tiny.
"Sounds good," she told Levi cheerfully enough, feeling that even if she could die of sunstroke at any moment at least they weren't in that awful tomb anymore. "I'm not having any luck either," she added a few minutes later, after trying to reveal the sphinx in various locations. "I hope that we don't need to travel back on the camels?" WERE they even there anymore? Or were they gone now in some cruel trick? Even though they were far from Arielle's favourite form of travel, walking the entire way was something that she did NOT want to do.
Why couldn't there be any portkeys or broomsticks? Could they apparate?
