Chapter Four: Introspective
Personality: Introverted Teddy likes to bury his nose in books and writing, and is often caught spending more time in his imagination than reality. He is very timid and finds comfort in routine. But he is smart and logical, and can often talk himself through his fears, not overcoming them but managing them. He loves to learn, and researches many different things in his free time. He particularly enjoys muggle mathematics, history and chemistry, and subsequently arithmancy, history of magic, care of magical creatures and potions and is looking forward to starting those subjects.
He is good, kind, and loyal. He finds it difficult at times to open up to others, especially in a group setting, but once he has made a friend, he is loyal and takes his friendship responsibility very seriously.
He loves gobstones, and enjoys watching quidditch, though he hates flying. He is a bit of a sweet tooth and LOVES chocolate frogs, and he also collects the cards. He has his large collection organised into a folder, in numerical order, and has his spares organised the same way in a box. He enjoys trading them with other people. Likes: Alone time, family, close friends, reading, writing, chocolate frogs, collecting chocolate frog cards, daydreaming, learning, gobstones, animals, watching quidditch, and building things. Dislikes: Adventures, being around too many people, when people tell him to cheer up (seriously, it’s just how he is, and he IS happy), mean people and bullies, liars, when people try to trivialize his fears, pineapple, flying, loud noises, losing things, dueling, and lots more.

Chapter Six: History
Lisabel and Alexander, in their late forties, were surprised when they discovered they were about to be parents again. Theodore and Ava were born during the summer holidays, and their Uncle Archer and older siblings Dimitri and Zhenya visited them.
Their childhood was a bit odd. They had older parents, and their siblings had estranged themselves from their parents. Teddy and Ava didn’t see them for many years. From age 5-10 the twins went to the muggle primary school their mother taught at during the day, and at nights and on weekends they were taught about their other world, mainly by their father and uncle Archer and, later, their brother. They learned about Hogwarts, wands, boggarts and patronuses, plus all of the subjects that were taught at Hogwarts. Their childhood was not lonely, though. They had each other, the kids in the neighborhood and at school. The worst thing that happened to them was watching the effect of their older siblings leaving had on their parents, particularly their father, and at times the twins felt like they had to care for themselves.
Before they got their Hogwarts letters, something amazing happened. Dimitri came back, and with him came Alana and Keenan. This was good.

"Yes!" he squeaked. "Plus we have a guesthouse. My uncle sometimes stays there when he comes to visit." Teddy loved it when his Uncle Archer came. He always gave him advice, and watched tv and movies with him. It was good that he didn't like being in his own house very often, which meant that he stayed with them when he was visiting them.
It was only as Lisabel heard the exchange of Sherlock Holmes names that she had come to know, that she realised the smudge on the young girl's face was perhaps of Teddy's doing, and not in fact an accidental smudge. She smiled to herself as she put the water on to boil.
And that was what Teddy Holmes did! He walked up the stairs and led Lux to his bedroom. He gud under his bed for a stethoscope he had, a very old one that his father had since replaced, and handed it to Lux Watson. He, himself, was going to put on his deerstalker cap. He went to one corner of the room, took out his little microscope.

It was cute how quickly Teddy replied to her question. Lux giggled. Seemed that he was keen on her staying over at the house. "Well, maybe I can stay over for a time then? If that is okay, I mean..." Surely her parents would allow it since they knew about Teddy. If it wasn't allowed though that would be totally okay. "Your uncle? He's the one that has a magical tent, right?" She had heard a few things about this uncle and he seemed pretty interesting. Zhenya had mentioned him when they had talked about their hiking trip and hopefully they would be able to borrow the tent.
Following Teddy to his bedroom, Lux took a look around. "Your teddy bear is going to look great with all of your other stuff!" she said happily. Of course he was putting on his deer stalker. "I love that hat," she said as she took the stethoscope. With a smile she put it around her neck. "Now I am a real doctor!" Okay, maybe not... but it made the portrayal more realistic and she liked that. "Let's look and see what we have!" She was excited to examine the sample that they had come back with.

Teddy smiled "Yes! That will be okay! My mum will agree," he knew. As long as Lux had her own room in the cottage, she would be okay with that. Besides, Teddy wasn't sure how he felt about sharing a room with a girl. Let alone sharing a BED. No. A kiss on the cheek was one thing, but that was quite another. Besides, what if he farted accidentally when he was asleep? Lux might not like him as much if he farted in front of her. Whether it was an accident or not. "Yes! That's him! How did you know about his magical tent?" Has he told her without remembering?
"It will!" he said, taking his bag off and putting it on his bed. He went through and found the Sherlock teddy bear, and put it on the bookshelf next to where his hat had been. "It looks like it belongs there." Teddy smiled. He loved it too. "We can swap accessories if you want?" he asked. They didn't have to wear the correct accessories, did they? And Lux looked good in his hat. He giggled at her. "Doctor Lux! Or... Doctor Lux Watson!" it had a ring to it. Teddy lined the specimen they had found under the microscope and looked at it. After a few moments, he put his finger under the microscope to look. He adjusted the zoom and the height of the platform until it was nice and clear. His own fingernails were too short to cut, so this was his only way of checking. "The specimen we found has the same sort of indents as my nail has," he commented, standing aside so that Lux could have a look.

Oh. It was basically settled then. Lux was rather pleased about that. Awesome. I'll just have to ask my parents about it but I'm sure they would agree. Where would I be sleeping? Where your uncle stays?" They would have a lot of fun no matter where she slept and that was the important thing. Spending time with Teddy always made her happy. "Zhenya's mentioned him! She was going to ask him if we can use his tent for our hiking trip." Of course he wouldn't want to join them and she couldn't blame him seeing how he felt about doing that kind of activity.
Smiling, she watched him place the teddy bear on his bookshelf. "Wow, it looks amazing. I am glad that you liked your present so much." It had been easy to get him something because Lux knew how much he loved Sherlock Holmes. "Really? I can wear it?" That would be lovely and otherwise she wouldn't really have a chance to wear a deerstalker. Though he never said no to her... "Doctor Lux Watson and Teddy Holmes." Giggling, she took a peek into the microscope lens. "So it IS a finger nail!" Wow, they had done good.

Teddy's little grin was on his face for good. Yes, it was. "Well he usually stays in the guesthouse, but we have a lot of rooms. There's one next to mine! I can show them to you and you can pick one." If she wanted. There were three bedrooms not in use anymore. One had been Zhenya's, but she didn't live with them anymore, one had been Dima's, but he had never lived there at the same time as he and Ava, and the other had been the spare bedroom. So, now there were three. "Zhenya likes to hike! Do you like hiking too?" He wasn't a hiker, but he did like walks along the beach and in the forest if Zhenya or someone else was with him. Just in case there were spiders. But he once saw a snake, and that was pretty cool.
"I do like it, it's the best teddy bear I've gotten." He giggled again, "a teddy bear for Teddy," he chuckled under his breath. Teddy nodded confidently. "I don't let anyone else wear it though. Nobody except me. And now you." He almost put it on his cat Salem but she would have just eaten it, or scratched it. "It's very interesting, Doctor, I just don't know how it came to be on the stone. I mean, it was embedded IN the stone. I think that the victim must have been in terrible danger."

Oh. So she DIDN'T have to sleep in the guesthouse. That suited Lux perfectly though she would have been fine with being set up there. Anywhere would be fine though she would prefer staying in the room beside Teddy's. "That would be great! I'm sure the one beside yours would be perfect." she nodded, knowing that he would prefer that arrangement as well. Anyway. They were talking about hiking... "Oh, yes. It's great though I don't do it too often. I'm very excited for the trip." If Uncle Archer's tent was as nice as it sounded from what Zhenya told her, they would be all set and then some. Muggle camping was more her style but who was she to say no to luxury like that when it presented itself to her.
"I'm happy to hear that!" His favourite teddy bear for Teddy. Lux had been rather proud of herself for that one and double bonus in the fact that she had found a Healer one as well. "Well, I feel special and I promise that I won't ever damage it." Lux smiled and put her hand over her heart before giggling. She was serious though; she'd be very careful with his deerstalker. Proudly she placed it on her head. "Maybe they wanted to scratch a message into the stone but lost their fingernail and were taken before they could try again!" Hehe. She really had no idea but she was having way too much fun playing pretend and trying to solve the mystery.

Scene Four: Lux and Teddy meet up in Diagon Alley during the summer holidays before Teddy's fourth year of Hogwarts
Teddy waited at the corner near Gringotts for Lux. He was so excited to see his best friend because it had been a YEAR since they had seen each other. Teddy had missed her despite all of their letters throughout the year. He was now FOURTEEN and was excited to start studying for OWLs which were an entire year away. But first, he and Lux were going to have FUN.

There he was.
Lux BEAMED as she spotted her best friend and made her way over to him. "Heya, Teddy!" Pulling him into a hug, she kissed his cheek. "I missed you so much!" Even though there were letters it just wasn't the same! Not really. ALSO there was something that she needed to tell him. Something big that she didn't think could be told in a letter. Nope, it had to be done in person! He would be sooooo thrilled for her.

Teddy grinned when he saw Lux, and he returned her big hug. The kiss, he returned too. A kiss on her cheek. That was how they did it. "I missed you too, Lux!" he said as he hugged her.
"How are you?" he asked as he pulled out from their hug. He would need to pop into Gringotts to put some of his birthday money into the vault. He didn't like money sitting around at home.

This was great and Lux knew that she and Teddy we're going to have a great time together! There was a lot of catching up for them to do! But first there was something that she needed to tell him. The big, exciting news!
She couldn't stop smiling. "I'm great! How are you?" She held up her left hand then, showing off her beautiful engagement ring. "Bay proposed! I had wanted to tell you about it months ago but thought it would be better to show you in person!" Wasn't it all so incredible?? Lux couldn't wait to be married.

Teddy reflexively smiled as Lux's face broke into a HUGE smile. Teddy thought it was that she was just happy to see him, or happy in general. She usually was a very happy person. But then after a few moments Teddy comprehended what she was saying.
Engaged to Bay.
NOT, in fact, with Teddy.
"W-who is Bay?" Teddy asked, keeping his smile plastered on his face. He took her hand and looked at the ring. "I-it's b-beautiful," he said. It was, very beautiful. He just needed to get his voice under control.
What on earth was going on? Seriously, WHO WAS BAY? And why was HE engaged with TEDDY'S BEST FRIEND? Teddy felt his heart rate increase rapidly. He had to try with all of his might to keep his breathing under control. He could feel the potential for him to go into a hyperventilating state, and he knew that once that started it would be a long time until he returned to normal. So that was out of the question. No, he kept his breathing in a slow and controlled rhythm.

...This wasn't the reaction that Lux had expected from Teddy.
At all.
Instead of being really happy for her, he was acting weird and the smile on his face was fake. She knew it was fake because she knew HIM. "Teddy? What's wrong?" Lux was worried now because her best friend was acting strange. Something was the matter with him and she had no idea what was up but she didn't like seeing him this way. Teddy upset always made her upset.

Teddy was still acting weird but Lux knew better than to press him when he was like this; better to leave off instead of cause him to hyperventilate or something. Still, she had no idea what was going on with him. Maybe later he could tell her but she was worried about him.
"Well, his name is actually Victor but no one calls him that besides his parents." Generally he went by his last name so it was weird to refer to him by his REAL name. "I don't think you've met him before but we've been together since a month after I turned 13... sooo seven years." That was a LONG time but it didn't feel like it.

Teddy opened his mouth and closed it again.
Seven years?
SEVEN YEARS?
Teddy felt his breathing begin to get shallow, and he blinked a few times. "Wow that's a long time," he said, rather quietly. "H-have you... set a... date?" he asked. He didn't know what else to ask. Not when the girl he had THE BIGGEST CRUSH ON was, in fact, in a relationship with someone else. How should he act? What should he say? What should he ask? Teddy had never prepared for a situation like this one.

Something wasn't right and Lux knew it. Teddy was breathing weird and talking strangely. He was never like this with her so it was rather concerning. "Please tell me what's wrong. I'm worried. I promise everything will be okay." She knew that he got anxious about things and didn't want him to be in distress.
"Do you want some Chocolate Frogs?" Maybe that would help??? Lux didn't know. She just knew that she wanted her best friend to be okay!!!

Teddy was starting to get worried that he couldn't control it. He KNEW he wasn't fooling Lux, and Lux wasn't going to let him just pretend everything was okay.
"I... I..." he stammered before blurting out "IHAVEACRUSHONYOU!" And running away, down the street and off towards the Leaky Cauldron.
He couldn't believe he'd just said that! TO LUX! How could he? He had to be happy for his best friend, not jealous!

TEDDY SAY WHAT NOW??
Lux's eyes widened at what her best friend blurted out before running off.
She... didn't know what to think right now because she had been taken by surprise, but she DID know that she had to go after him so that they could talk. That was if Teddy WOULD talk to her because she knew very well how he could get when he was feeling overwhelmed and anxious. That wasn't going to stop her from trying, since he was her best friend.

Teddy, who was allergic to physical exercise and sunlight, had to stop to catch his breath, which was very difficult because 1. He was on the verge of a panic attack. 2. He had asthma, and his lungs were on fire, and 3. He had just RAN! He was mixed between gasping wheezy breaths and pumping full of adrenaline. And he was bent over his knees to catch his breath when Lux was there. He didn't know what to say, but he couldn't look at her. He had JUST declared his love for her and ran off. That was NOT very manly or mature. He couldn't catch his breath but he managed a very wheezy "I -- I'm s-so... sorry L-Lux... I sh - I shou... shouldn't ha-have sa-said that."

He was stopping but Lux had a feeling that it had more to do with the fact that he had asthma than with the fact that she had called out to him.
More worried than ever, she didn't know what would happen if he had an attack in the middle of the street. WHAT WAS SHE SUPPOSED TO DO??? WHAT WOULD ZHENYA DO??? "Do you need the doctor? Do you have an inhaler on you?" She had no idea and she felt stupid for never asking in case something like this happened. Nothing could happen to her best friend. Nope. Nope. Nope.
As far as the other thing... "I'm sorry I upset you. I never wanted to upset you." He hadn't done anything wrong.

Inhaler. Right. Yes! He buried his hand through his bag until he found the inhaler and puffed on it a few times, slowly. It was a few moments before he felt he could face this conversation. "I-I don't need a doctor," he said to Lux's feet. He couldn't look at her, could he?
No, he had to. He had to be a man and look her in the eye. He slowly lifted his own eyes to hers and listened to what she said. He shook his head slowly. "It's not you, Lux. Well it is... but not in that way. I mean... well, YOU have nothing to apologise for." And she didn't, because he had never told her about his feelings. He supposed deep down it was because he was scared she would tell him she had a boyfriend. And she did. And now that boy was her fiancee. He sighed and rubbed his face. "I'm sorry," he said again, "I really am happy for you Lux. You deserve all the happiness, I just didn't know you had a... a Bay. But... well... if you love him then I think he must be a decent man." He was trying to be mature. He didn't want to lose Lux at all. The thought of losing her was more than he could handle.

There was no way that Lux was going to leave panic mode until she saw Teddy use the inhaler and calm down. It was only then that she took a deep breath and began to relax. He was okay and that was the important thing. The alternative would have been to get his sister and with time being precious she had no idea what would have happened.
"Teddy..." Lux sighed. She was having a bit of trouble wrapping her head around this latest development. She listened to all he had to say to her and then smiled. He was happy that she was happy. Obviously he was, but STILL part of her had worried that he wouldn't take things this well. "Are you sure you're okay? You are a greater friend than I deserve!" Relieved, she pulled him into a hug. "We're still friends, right?" If not, that would break her heart.

Teddy's chest still felt a little tight, but he knew it wasn't something he needed to worry about. It was probably all the adrenaline making him feel as if an elephant was squishing his lungs. It wasn't, of course. Or maybe it was just that he was dealing with the news.
"Yes, I'm okay Lux," he said, as reassuringly as possible. He didn't want her to worry, and he did NOT want to lose her. He let her pull him into a hug, and he tightly wrapped his arms around her too. Her being in his life meant more to him than he could express. She had helped him immensely. With life, emotions, coping, studying, braving the outdoors, even if it was just Diagon Alley 'outdoors', it was something he never wanted to do before. "We will always be friends, if I have anything to do with it," he said with a little smile. He couldn't lose her. No, it just was not an option.

Even though Teddy told her that he was okay, Lux was still worried. "Are you sure you don't want me to get Zhenya?" She would know what to do if his asthma was still acting up. WHY hadn't she asked about that beforehand? She could have kicked herself for being so silly. They would definitely have to ask about that later because she was not about to press Teddy when he had already been feeling awful.
Still, she let herself smile as she hugged him, feeling relieved because he was okay and still her friend despite everything. "You are way too important to me, Teddy." They would be best friends forever; she just knew it. Always.

Teddy shook his head with determination. He didn't need his sister. "I'll be fine." He took a deep, non-wheezy breath in and smiled a little. "See, I'm okay," he said, hopefully sounding reassuring.
Teddy grinned at her. "You're too important to me too, Lux." She was very special to him, and understood him very well. What would he do without her? "Um... do you want to come and get some ice cream with me?" He asked.
