Default Surviving Suburbia

Everybody loves Hogwarts.
Students couldn’t be prouder of the beloved castle they get to call home for most part of the year, and those unfortunate enough not to receive an invitation, dream of racing the moving staircases and finding secret passageways behind talking portraits.
Enchanting as it may be, Hogwarts remains, above all: a school. Which means that Hogwarts students don’t necessarily spend all their time at the castle joking with nearly-headless ghosts, sneaking into forbidden forests, or enjoying a cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace. Like any other student at any other school, magical or otherwise, they have their fair share of responsibilities: homework to get done, tests to study for, grades to improve. Overall, Hogwarts students tend to be hard-working, smart individuals who surpass challenges set by each and every lesson, moving on to higher levels.
There are, however, those classes that are just IMPOSSIBLE for some to pass. And for some Hogwarts students the main culprit tends to be:
Muggle. Studies.

These students can perform a perfect patronus, handle a crying mandrake, predict your untimely demise in a teacup, but they simply can NOT figure out the workings of a “TV remote” no matter how many times they press all the bloody buttons. It looks just like a tel-uh-phony, what is even the point of this thing!? GAHHH.
For these students, a special summer lesson has been put together by Professor Willoughby, Hogwarts’ one and only Muggle Studies master. These students failed all exams and either didn’t turn in their homework, or turned in something that made no more sense than a two-headed dog with chicken legs and fire breath. If these students don’t want to end up repeating the class next term (and I’m more than certain they don’t), they MUST pass the summer lesson, which, in consequence, will take up a good half of their summer break.

So, what is Professor Willoughby’s challenge?
Surviving one month in suburbia.

The worst Muggle Studies students in every House and every year must pack their belongings (without the help of magic) and move to a standard, uniformed suburban home in the middle of a friendly muggle neighbourhood in the outskirts of London. Doesn’t sound too bad, does it? Well, there’s a catch: the students must give up their wands to Professor Willoughby at the end of term, and they may only retrieve them after successfully completing all challenges set up by the professor. So, absolutely no magic can be performed during the entire month the students spend in this home, performing their daily tasks without the aid of their wands. They must learn to live life… the muggle way.

It’s not all so bad, though. The house is large and comfortable, there’s a pool in the backyard, they get a mini van to drive around, and there’s other youths in the neighbourhood. Just next door is a house occupied entirely by muggle university students, who our muggle-challenged witches and wizards must interact with without raising any suspicion to complete some of their tasks. If they’re nice enough, they could maybe even get the muggles to perform some of these tasks for them. …Long as they’re not caught by the Professor’s pet assistant. There will be one student, the best student, in fact, who is already familiar with all things muggle and will be in charge of making sure that all tasks are completed by his classmates. Should anyone be caught cheating, this student will be in charge of reporting them to Professor Willoughby, and they may permanently lose their wand in consequence.

To help the students stay on track and remember all the tasks they must complete, a chalkboard has been set up in the living room area of the home. Here, the professor’s assistant has listed all the tasks the students must complete, in the order they must be performed. Also, all students have been equipped with the muggle version of a wand - a cellphone. Each cellphone is activated with its own phone number and the students are free to use them as they please, the more they play around with the gadget and experience first-hand muggle technology, the better! But please do try to take it easy on the selfies.

And so, girls and boys… welcome to suburbia! Have fun and try not to get electrocuted by that tricky muggle invention - electricity!

Hello everyone!
So, since the general RP section of the site is pretty dead, The Amazing Ru (pinecone) and I have decided to start something new that will hopefully get more members involved in RPs outside of the school!
If you’re interested in joining, please just post a bio for your character(s) and we’ll add them to the list below!
You may RP students, muggles, or both. Ru and I will be taking care of the professor and his assistant (we may or may not have some surprises in store for you… ). You may also bring in any necessary extras if a certain scene asks for it, the more realistic we make this, the better! If you have any ideas of extra characters you’d like to add in besides the students and their muggle neighbors, tell us! Want to be a gardener that’s onto them? A thief that breaks into the house at night? A troublesome child that rings the bell and runs away!? ALL CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME. BE CREATIVE!

And for your reference, here is a shot of the board listing all the kids’ challenges. Below is a link to see a larger version.

Please remember to follow all SS rules while RPing, and, most of all, don’t forget to have FUN!!!

Allegra was running late. It wasn’t usual of her to be late to anything, especially something so important, but today of all days public transportation had chosen not to be her friend. She had waited over ten minutes for the first train only to realize it wasn’t running weekends, and ran up the nearest staircase to just barely miss her next best option for getting across the city. Of course. By the time she had boarded the next one and started moving, she was already fifteen minutes behind schedule. She pulled out her phone, preparing to text Adam, but quickly realized she had no service underground. Lovely. She sat down and pulled out a book, trying to distract her mind from building up elaborate scenarios of Adam leaving the coffee shop in frustration, her foot tapping impatiently as the conductor announced delays.

Seven grueling stops later, she was there. Allegra ran up the steps to the sunlight, squinting left and right in the attempt to locate the proper shop. How many places could serve coffee on one block? Apparently a dozen, at least. She was only vaguely familiar with this part of town, and the lateness of her arrival only seemed to panic her further. Luckily, the meeting spot was right in front of her, rather hard to miss once she took a breath and really looked. And now she was nervous for an entirely different reason - Adam.

With no time to properly overthink things, Allegra crossed the street in a quick stride, slipping into the coffee shop only to be met with crowds and popular music over the speakers. Her brows furrowed, certain that she wouldn’t be able to find him in this weekend rush, when she suddenly heard a few girls to her left laughing. Confused, she followed their gaze to find a very familiar person struggling to retrieve his phone, watching as he glanced at the device and took a sip of his drink. Allegra allowed herself a hint of a smile before she remembered the time and started to navigate her way through the crowd, finally emerging near his table.

"I'm so sorry I'm late!"

Adam was a bit slow to look away from the drink he kept frowning at and up to the source of the voice that should’ve been immediately familiar to him. But the coffee shop was loud, and crowded, and apparently competing with its customers on who could be noisier, based on the volume of the background music.

At first he almost didn’t recognize her. Not because they hadn’t seen each other in a while (it had only been a little over a week), but because he had become so accustomed to seeing her in a completely different setting. One of messy desks and scattered books and lazy mornings in an abandoned cottage. Seeing Allegra Reynolds in a busy London coffee shop was so simple that it was also surreal.

“Moon…” If it hadn’t been for the movement of his lips, it would’ve been impossible to tell if Adam Kipling had said anything at all. His voice was soft, filled with a disbelief that perfectly matched his awestruck expression. It cracked into the brightest of smiles just a second later, as he practically jumped out of his seat to envelop Allegra in a tight, loving embrace. Anyone watching probably suspected the couple’s background was a lot more tragic, that perhaps they hadn’t seen each other in months and their reunion was purely coincidental. He held the girl in his arms for a long moment, both out of affection and also the need to make sure he wasn’t suffering from hallucinations induced by too much sugar in his chocolate.

“I almost thought you weren’t coming,” he said as he pulled away, only to immediately interrupt any attempt at a response from Allegra by meeting her lips in a kiss. It was brief and cut short by frustrated customers trying to get past the couple to the other side of the shop, but still as effective in leaving the boy in a daze when it was over. “Sorry,” he muttered apologetically as an incredibly short, elderly woman with white hair and a mean face glared up at them. Taking Allegra’s hand, Adam moved back to the table, waiting for Allegra to sit before he returned to his chair with a stupidly happy look on his face.

Allegra almost seemed surprised to find herself immediately swept up into the warm and familiar embrace of Adam Kipling, letting out a soft laugh as he pulled her into a large bear hug. "Hi babe," she beamed, preparing to defend herself and her late arrival when his lips found her own and all other thoughts failed. She returned the kiss lovingly for the brief moment it lasted, pulling back only to offer up a beaming smile and bright gray eyes. How was it that Adam could change her mood entirely? In just a matter of seconds, her mild irritation with public transportation and nerves and dozens of other emotions evaporated into a dreamy sort of excitement.

Allegra followed him back to the table and sat down across from him, tucking her book back into her tote bag and setting it at her feet. She looked back up and caught his eyes, a warm smile immediately spreading across her pale features as she pushed some of her brown hair behind her ear. "I really am sorry I'm late," she defended softly, an apologetic quality behind her smile. "The trains have a personal hatred for me, I'm sure of it."

Adam chuckled softly with Allegra’s conspiracy theory, blue eyes practically sparkling at the sight of her. “Don’t worry about it.” Without even realizing it, the boy’s body language changed completely. While before he had leaned back into his seat, casual, bored, now he leaned forward over the edge of the table, his gaze alert as if Allegra had come to share some extremely confidential information with him. “Do you want something?” he asked, just as the same curly-haired girl that had prepared his chocolate earlier approached the table (and eyed his nearly-full cup with suspicion).

Allegra looked up as the waitress came by, her eyebrows raising in mild surprise at her expectant stare. "Oh, right." She glanced around for a menu but found none, sheepishly returning her gaze to the waitress with a weak smile. "I'll just have tea, then. Thanks." She watched as the woman nodded curtly and walked away before returning her gaze to Adam to share a conspiratorial glance - clearly that woman didn't like them very much. Her smile grew, now more distracted with the sight of Adam in front of her as she matched his posture and leaned forward on the table.

"Hi."

Adam beamed. “Hi.” And suddenly, the shop that had once been so loud and crowded, felt empty and quiet. All he saw, all he heard was the girl before him. “I missed you,” he confessed as he reached across the table to gently hold her cold little hand. It almost startled him at first, as if he’d already forgotten her amazing ability to keep cold even in the middle of summer. As it was basically tradition by now, he lifted their entwined hands to meet hers with a kiss. “How’s home?” he asked, curious. Despite having visited one of Allegra’s childhood homes during their runaway weekend, Adam still didn’t really know much about the girl’s family life.

"I missed you, too." Allegra struggled to keep her heart from beating at twice its normal pace as Adam picked up her hand and placed a warm kiss on the back of it. It hadn't been so long since she'd seen him, but it felt like it had been forever since he'd kissed her hand, strangely enough. "Home was really, really great," she nodded, smiling briefly at the waitress as she delivered her tea and promptly left. She moved the mug closer, her free hand absentmindedly cradling its handle as she turned thoughtful. "It was nice seeing my parents, spending time with them. It was good." It really had been. As different as she and her parents could be, at times, and as difficult as it was to find times to see each other throughout the year, when they did get together it was nice to catch up.

"How's home for you?"

Adam smiled as Allegra shared with him that her time at home had been pleasant, immediately curious to learn more. But then she reflected his question, and the boy shrugged. “It’s been good.” He began absentmindedly playing with the fingers of her hand, both of his own free since he was obviously disinterested in his own mug. “What did you guys do? You and your parents, I mean,” he asked, unable to hide his curiosity.

Allegra tried to think back on the week, scrolling through the days since arriving home. "We just caught up on everything... A lot of talking about my last year and all of that. Just time around the house, and... Oh, we went to a dinner event for a family friend last night..." She shrugged, offering up a soft smile. "It's fun to go to those sort of things with my parents because they get really tired of them, really quickly." She tried to explain. "My father does a running commentary under his breath about the party guests and my mother bets on who at the table will fall asleep first." She flashed him a smile before taking a sip of her tea, in the moment's pause seeming to remember the very clear answer to Adam's question.

"Oh, actually..." Her eyebrows rose, clearly still a little overwhelmed at this news. "My parents have been helping me this week, to look for a place of my own in the city." She was done with education now, after all. And it wasn't as though there was much for her at home, with her parents traveling so much. She wanted to be here, and the excitement was clear somewhere behind the nervous look she shared with Adam. "Nothing's official yet."

Adam laughed as Allegra described a night out with her parents, somehow able to imagine a very bored Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds smiling politely to guests before turning to exchange commentary with their daughter. With Allegra’s following announcement, he raised his eyebrows in surprise. And then, he was beaming. “Come!” he exclaimed excitedly, as if Allegra could just casually pick up all her things and walk right into the first place with an unlocked door. “Have you seen any places yet? I can help you look, if you want,” he offered, obviously thrilled with the idea of having Allegra in the same city.

Allegra smiled sheepishly to her dwindling tea at Adam's excitement. "Oh, you don't have to do that..." She didn't want him to feel like he had to go out of his way to help her with this, and besides... "I actually found a place I really, really like," she admitted, her smile growing as she pictured it. "We just saw it a couple days ago, so it's not officially mine yet, but... we'll see." It was strange to be talking about this, it all felt very surreal to her, but she was greatly looking forward to having a place that was just her own. With her own things, and her own books, and all of her belongings set up just the way she wanted. It was a bit of a dream for her.

"But what about you?" Allegra turned to Adam with new interest. "What have you been doing? Are you staying in the city?"

Adam’s eyebrows shot so far high they almost met his hairline. Allegra had already found a place of her own, in the city of all places, and hadn’t even had the decency to send him a text or call about it! He would’ve been offended, had he not been too busy being excited instead. “Well… if you want it and it’s available, I don’t see why you can’t have it,” the boy decided confidently.

When she asked if he was staying in the city, Adam chuckled softly. “Well, yeah. All my family’s here,” he replied. Moving somewhere else wouldn’t make sense. “I’m staying with Geoff right now, but Thomas wants us to move somewhere together. I’m not sure though,” he explained with a small smile and a shrug. He only knew one thing for certain - unlike Allegra Reynolds, Adam Kipling was rubbish at being alone. He’d never even had a room of his own, always having shared one with his younger brother at home and then with his friends in school (and Leo in that awful competition, but that had been more traumatizing than pleasant). So the chaos of having other people around rather appealed to the boy.

"Oh, right," Allegra shook her head at her own forgetfulness as Adam reminded her that his entire family was in the city. For some reason she had thought it was just his brothers who lived here, clearly a little behind in the logistics of the Kipling family. "You're thinking of moving in with Thomas?" she repeated with raised eyebrows, unable to hold back the amused smile that spread across her expression. That would certainly be an interesting household. From what she knew of Thomas and the few times their paths had brushed, he was a big personality.

She released her tea, her light eyes dropping to their joined hands for a moment before finding his eyes once more. "Have you been enjoying the time with your brothers?"

Adam nodded. “Yeah. I’ve only seen Geoff, though. Evan won’t be back from America for a couple more days,” he replied, his gaze absentmindedly watching the people rushing past the coffeeshop window, up and down the crowded sidewalks with only their next destination in mind. “I’ve really missed them,” he confessed more softly, returning his gaze to Allegra with another small smile. It was no secret that Adam and his brothers were close, but the boy always seemed to forget how much he appreciated their company until they were reunited again.

His gaze dropped to rest on Allegra’s tea for a few seconds, thoughtful, before he looked up again and spoke, “He really wants to meet you. My brother, I mean.” He removed one of his hands from around Allegra’s and began stirring his now-cold hot chocolate absentmindedly. “I think you’d like him, he’s far more interesting than me. Better looking, too.” He grinned playfully. “And… he’d like you to join us for dinner tonight.” His playful expression turned hopeful now, eyebrows raising inquisitively.

Allegra nodded to each of Adam's statements, her mind growing more and more curious as he spoke. Of course she knew he was close to his brothers, it was one of the first things he shared with her as they were getting to know one another. But she didn't have first hand experience with siblings, didn't know what it was like to have any, and it only seemed to fascinate her more that Adam was so close with his. She was quickly awakened from these thoughts as he made an announcement. His brother wanted to... meet her? "Oh."

She was already in her own mind, trying to sort through these feelings of excitement and mild panic, when he went on to claim his older brother was more interesting, better looking. She paused her overthinking to shoot him a look, "I seriously doubt that."

"And... he'd like you to join us for dinner tonight."

"Tonight?" Allegra repeated, eyebrows raised in a permanent state of elevation as she took this in. "I'd... really like that." It was true, she really wanted to meet his brother, to get to know his family - just the idea of it filled her with new excitement, but... "Are you sure that's alright?" After all, she and Adam had hardly just reunited, was he sure he wanted her meeting his brother already? "I don't want to intrude."

Of course, this invitation made her heart jump. Meeting his brother implied... a future. It suggested that this time apart hadn't made Adam want more space, as she had feared, and that he wanted to keep going ahead. Meeting families. Taking next steps. Still, she didn't want to assume anything, knowing they were still sort of in this strange time of change, for the both of them. "I just mean..." Allegra shrugged, but kept his eye contact, wanting to make sure. "Are you sure you want..." Halfway through the statement, she grew a little embarrassed and stopped.

Adam smiled, then frowned, then smiled again as Allegra spoke, jumping from one emotion to the next. He was almost tempted to tease her, typical him, but thought better of it. They were still in strange times, and Adam remained hyperaware of the fact that, sometimes, Allegra didn’t always believe his playful exaggerations, even if they masked his honest thoughts. “I want you to meet my brother,” he assured her simply, holding her gaze in case she felt tempted to doubt his words. “Except…” he began absentmindedly stirring his chocolate again, “It’s not just him. I think this dinner was Bridgette’s idea, she’s been wanting to meet you too,” he explained, flashing Allegra a guilty smile. He knew this was probably a little overwhelming for the girl, to see him for the first time in a week only to find herself immediately thrown at people she doesn’t know but that know about her. But everything sort of spiraled out of Adam’s control the second his brother found out ‘the famous Allegra’, whom he’d heard about for months now, was finally making an appearance. “But we don’t have to do it. I mean, if you’d rather we can go have dinner somewhere just the two of us. We’ll tell them we’ll meet them another night, it’s no big deal,” he quickly added, not wanting Allegra to feel like she had to go along with this just because of him. “Whatever you want, Moon.”

Allegra stayed quiet as Adam explained the circumstances, trying to process the various details he was offering her, and quickly found herself distracted by her favorite nickname. "No, no, I want to..." She did, really. It was just a bit... unexpected. And nerve-wracking. "Let's do it." She wanted to meet his brother and... "I'm sorry, who's Bridgette?" She definitely hadn't heard that name before. Was this another relative? She hoped desperately she hadn't missed another important detail of Adam's life that he once communicated but she had now forgotten, her brows furrowing in mild concern.

Adam took in Allegra’s concerned expression and smiled a sympathetic, apologetic smile. “Aw, Moon…” Poor girl! Here he was going on about people who were complete strangers to her and expecting her to follow along. “I’m sorry, I forgot to explain,” he said softly. “Bridgette’s Geoff’s girlfriend. She went to school with us but graduated two years ago, same as him,” he clarified. “She’s been around a while, so she’s kind of like a big sister.”

Allegra nodded as Adam explained that Bridgette was Geoff's girlfriend, slowly putting together the puzzle of who was who in the Kipling family. Or rather, the Kipling family plus significant others. "Bridgette is Geoff's girlfriend, Evan is in America," she repeated all the new information seriously as though preparing for some kind of exam. She could do this. Maybe. She managed to hide the apprehension behind her expression fairly well, her gray eyes more determined than anything else as she played with Adam's hand in her own absentmindedly. They hadn't been separated for all that long, but somehow it felt longer now that they were in the same room again. She was already growing distracted scanning his familiar features, more at ease in his company than she had been most of the week without it. "I'll be there. What time?"

Adam’s expression filled with endearment as Allegra’s filled with concentration. Literally she was doing nothing but trying to put together the people-shaped puzzle pieces he'd thrown at her, and already the boy felt overwhelmed with adoration for her distracted expression. Perhaps it was just the time apart that had him so easily endeared with Allegra’s every word and movement. Or maybe it was just Allegra.

“I’ll let you know,” Adam replied as she inquired about the time, not at all interested in tearing his attention from her just to bother Geoff about trivial details. “C’mon, let’s go somewhere,” he decided, smiling. Before the girl could either agree or disagree to this idea, he was already standing, placing enough bills on the table to cover the drinks and their unhappy waitress’s tip before beginning to lead the way out of the crowded place. Outside, the streets were no less crowded, but Adam immediately felt more at ease. There was a feeling of formality in sitting inside a coffeeshop, following societal unwritten rules where his favorite person must sit across from him, where it would’ve been inappropriate for them to be as affectionate as they wished. For this reason the boy used their entwined hands to pull his companion closer, smiling warmly as he leaned closer to place a kiss to her cheek.

Allegra barely had time to process Adam’s decision before they were standing up and slipping out of the coffee shop hand in hand. She offered a quick smile of gratitude to the unfriendly waitress before catching up, exiting the shop and stepping into the street. “Where are we —“ Her statement faltered as she felt a familiar kiss on her cheek, her words failing as she turned to lock eyes with her favorite person. “Hi.” She had already said it, but what else was there to say? She instinctively stepped a bit closer to him, a smile lighting up her expression. And it was as if the formal conversation in the coffee shop hadn’t happened at all, as though they’d bumped into each other for the first time just seconds ago and she was back at square one, excited and a little nervous. It felt strangely new.

“Did you have some good space?” Allegra questioned, a sparkle of teasing behind her eyes. Obviously their time apart was a bigger topic than the way she was casually broaching it, there would be plenty to talk about. But she wasn’t trying to get into all of that right now, more joking than anything else as she leaned up on her toes to get closer. “Do you even recognize me?” It had been so, so long, after all. She grinned. “It’s me, Allegra,” she reminded him playfully, as though it had been decades rather than days.

Adam merely chuckled softly with Allegra’s question, his gaze dropping for the briefest moment before meeting hers again. As she asked if he remembered her, his expression suddenly became puzzled. “Allegra?” he repeated, drawing his eyebrows together as if trying to remember where he’d heard the name before. “I was told I’d be meeting an Alice today. Blonde hair, green eyes? Have you seen her?” He looked around, at the people walking around and past them, searching for this fictional blind date. “Mm, guess she must’ve left…” Returning his attention to Allegra, Adam smiled and released her hand, only to offer his own again, this time for a handshake. “But since you’re here already… It’s nice to meet you, Alice—Allegra. Allegra. I’m Adam.”

Allegra drew a face of mock concern as Adam looked around for his fictional blind date, her gray eyes sweeping the immediate area as though also searching for her appropriate counterpart. “What a shame…” she muttered with furrowed brows, meeting his blue eyes once again almost reluctantly and shaking his hand. “Yeah, it’s Allegra,” she repeated in confirmation, her false stoicism only cracking as he pretended to call her Alice by mistake, amusing her to the point of almost ruining the joke.

“Brown hair, light eyes…?” she offered as though attempting to jog his memory. “Doesn’t ring a bell?” They were getting closer and closer all the while as she pulled him towards herself by their connected hands, inching towards him throughout their playful banter until she could easily halt their teasing with a surprisingly passionate kiss. “What about now?” she questioned again as she broke apart, a smile lighting up her features as she pulled him closer yet again and pecked his lips. “Now?” Kiss. “Anything?”

Allegra’s voice seemed to echo from across the street despite the fact that the girl was only inches away from him. But the only thing even more severely distracting and hypnotizing than a kiss from Allegra, was a kiss from Allegra after an entire week of no kisses from Allegra. Suddenly Adam was a schoolboy all over again, experiencing his first kiss from the prettiest girl in the whole class. At least, that’s how it felt.

A dazed smile lit up the boy’s expression when Allegra kissed him again. “Mm, I might be having a few… flashbacks,” he decided thoughtfully. “Not enough to remember everything… But the kisses help, I think if we just keep trying with that then it’ll all come back to me eventually,” he suggested, raising his eyebrows slightly at the genius of his idea, as if she should be impressed by it. But he couldn’t help feeling greedy when it came to Allegra’s affection, he’d been deprived of it for months! Well, a month. Fine, a week, but still. It felt like too long.

But despite Adam’s playful suggestion, he leaned closer only to briefly peck Allegra’s lips, flashing the girl a smile before beginning to lead the way down the sidewalk, no specific destination in mind. He just wanted to walk with her, talk with her. Be with her.

The hours of the afternoon slipped by easily. As they walked through the streets of London without destination, the updates flowed back and forth between them naturally, both of them eager to catch up with the other. What had they been doing all this time? (A week, really, but in Adegra years it was as good as a century). How was home? How were their first days of freedom from school? All of it poured back and forth in addition to more trivial matters such as which flavor of ice cream to get and the ongoing joke of how nice the day would have been with Alice if she had ever shown up.

Allegra had enjoyed the time apart for the most simplistic reasons. She had missed Adam, but she became reacquainted with the solitude she so enjoyed. She read books that had been on the back burner for some time, she caught up with Corie, she roamed around alone and without schedule. And beyond this, she had felt some relief in knowing things with Adam were settled, and there wasn’t any ongoing pressure to ‘fix’ anything. For the first time in a long time, she was able to exist independently from him without worrying extensively about the security of their relationship.

It was a new state for the two of them, as, for the most part, they only knew two settings: the first being constantly around one another, barely separating for classes, co-existing off of extreme lovesickness, and the second - a state of complete detachment, never seeing one another due to an argument or tense situation. They had never had another option, and it felt… surprisingly good. For the most part, Allegra enjoyed the time apart, aside from the few moments of insecurity that would be natural during the first separation they’d had like this. And, for the most part, she felt renewed by the time apart. She loved Adam desperately, but she couldn’t deny how much she enjoyed roaming alone. It was nice to take time to herself without worrying that she was missing out on time with him, for the first time she felt she had a bit a balance.

Of course, Allegra didn’t vocalize all of this to her companion as they strolled hand in hand. Instead, for right now, they discussed the time apart in terms of more tangible subjects - home, family, friends, post-graduation life, moving, etc. For the moment, it was all they could do to get through even that, so distracted by the beautiful day outside and being back together. The afternoon slowly faded into warmer colors of deep orange and magenta, the only sign that time had passed significantly. If not for this change of scenery Allegra wouldn’t have been able to tell that time passed at all, far too distracted by her present company.

They were settled on a park bench, watching the various passerby, when Allegra noticed the sky and finally turned to her companion with a smile. “I should probably get going.” She sat up from her place on his chest but made no further moves to leave just yet, her gray eyes filled with a mix of adoration and new fascination as she evaluated Adam. “I want to drop off some of this stuff before dinner.” She gestured to her tote bag filled with books.
