Default Surviving Suburbia

Everybody loves Hogwarts.
Students couldn’t be prouder of the beloved castle they get to call home for most part of the year, and those unfortunate enough not to receive an invitation, dream of racing the moving staircases and finding secret passageways behind talking portraits.
Enchanting as it may be, Hogwarts remains, above all: a school. Which means that Hogwarts students don’t necessarily spend all their time at the castle joking with nearly-headless ghosts, sneaking into forbidden forests, or enjoying a cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace. Like any other student at any other school, magical or otherwise, they have their fair share of responsibilities: homework to get done, tests to study for, grades to improve. Overall, Hogwarts students tend to be hard-working, smart individuals who surpass challenges set by each and every lesson, moving on to higher levels.
There are, however, those classes that are just IMPOSSIBLE for some to pass. And for some Hogwarts students the main culprit tends to be:
Muggle. Studies.

These students can perform a perfect patronus, handle a crying mandrake, predict your untimely demise in a teacup, but they simply can NOT figure out the workings of a “TV remote” no matter how many times they press all the bloody buttons. It looks just like a tel-uh-phony, what is even the point of this thing!? GAHHH.
For these students, a special summer lesson has been put together by Professor Willoughby, Hogwarts’ one and only Muggle Studies master. These students failed all exams and either didn’t turn in their homework, or turned in something that made no more sense than a two-headed dog with chicken legs and fire breath. If these students don’t want to end up repeating the class next term (and I’m more than certain they don’t), they MUST pass the summer lesson, which, in consequence, will take up a good half of their summer break.

So, what is Professor Willoughby’s challenge?
Surviving one month in suburbia.

The worst Muggle Studies students in every House and every year must pack their belongings (without the help of magic) and move to a standard, uniformed suburban home in the middle of a friendly muggle neighbourhood in the outskirts of London. Doesn’t sound too bad, does it? Well, there’s a catch: the students must give up their wands to Professor Willoughby at the end of term, and they may only retrieve them after successfully completing all challenges set up by the professor. So, absolutely no magic can be performed during the entire month the students spend in this home, performing their daily tasks without the aid of their wands. They must learn to live life… the muggle way.

It’s not all so bad, though. The house is large and comfortable, there’s a pool in the backyard, they get a mini van to drive around, and there’s other youths in the neighbourhood. Just next door is a house occupied entirely by muggle university students, who our muggle-challenged witches and wizards must interact with without raising any suspicion to complete some of their tasks. If they’re nice enough, they could maybe even get the muggles to perform some of these tasks for them. …Long as they’re not caught by the Professor’s pet assistant. There will be one student, the best student, in fact, who is already familiar with all things muggle and will be in charge of making sure that all tasks are completed by his classmates. Should anyone be caught cheating, this student will be in charge of reporting them to Professor Willoughby, and they may permanently lose their wand in consequence.

To help the students stay on track and remember all the tasks they must complete, a chalkboard has been set up in the living room area of the home. Here, the professor’s assistant has listed all the tasks the students must complete, in the order they must be performed. Also, all students have been equipped with the muggle version of a wand - a cellphone. Each cellphone is activated with its own phone number and the students are free to use them as they please, the more they play around with the gadget and experience first-hand muggle technology, the better! But please do try to take it easy on the selfies.

And so, girls and boys… welcome to suburbia! Have fun and try not to get electrocuted by that tricky muggle invention - electricity!

Hello everyone!
So, since the general RP section of the site is pretty dead, The Amazing Ru (pinecone) and I have decided to start something new that will hopefully get more members involved in RPs outside of the school!
If you’re interested in joining, please just post a bio for your character(s) and we’ll add them to the list below!
You may RP students, muggles, or both. Ru and I will be taking care of the professor and his assistant (we may or may not have some surprises in store for you… ). You may also bring in any necessary extras if a certain scene asks for it, the more realistic we make this, the better! If you have any ideas of extra characters you’d like to add in besides the students and their muggle neighbors, tell us! Want to be a gardener that’s onto them? A thief that breaks into the house at night? A troublesome child that rings the bell and runs away!? ALL CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME. BE CREATIVE!

And for your reference, here is a shot of the board listing all the kids’ challenges. Below is a link to see a larger version.

Please remember to follow all SS rules while RPing, and, most of all, don’t forget to have FUN!!!

Adam followed the movement of Allegra’s hands with widening eyes, watching as she so easily solved their Willoughby problem - by cutting off communication. He couldn’t help the lovestruck grin that illuminated his expression next, forever amazed by how, with just the simplest gestures, Allegra had him falling in love all over again. Eyes on the girl, Adam followed her lead down the street, looking away only when they came to a halt, music and the smell of food catching his attention.

“Looks like a party,” Adam absentmindedly replied, his hand still around Allegra’s as he slowly approached the lively house. The curtains swayed gently by the open windows, washing the sight beyond in soft white. Silhouettes moved animatedly behind the sheer curtains, accompanied by howling laughter and excited chatter. The voices were young, probably around Adegra’s age group, and based on the few words Adam was able to make out through the loud music and the distance, they were celebrating something related to a sporting event.

Adam had wandered so close to the window, bringing Allegra with him, that when the front door suddenly burst open, it almost hit them.

“Do you think this will be enough?”

“I don’t know, I don’t go shopping for apple juice every day, y’know!”

“But do you think they’d still be open, though?”

“Like I said — I don’t go—”

“—shopping for apple juice every day. I know! I can tell! You can be so dull sometimes, Emily.”

As Emily and her mystery friend disappeared down the dark street, never looking back to spot the curious outsiders peeking through the window, Adam jumped out from behind the shrubs and grabbed the door before it could fully close. He looked back at Allegra, mischief sparkling in his gaze. “What do you s—”

“Oi! Peters! About time you got here, mate!” And in a flash, an abnormally large hand reached out from behind the door, dragging Adam inside by the arm, while in turn the boy dragged Allegra by the hand.

Allegra watched with wide, fascinated eyes as they approached the side of the house, her interest sparked by the event which was clearly some kind of muggle teenage party. It was only as the doors opened and two of these teenagers actually made their way outside of the house that Allegra seemed to remember she was visible to those around her and jumped, suddenly concerned and aware that they probably shouldn't be there. Before she could voice this concern and suggest they perhaps leave, Adam caught the front door only to be pulled inside in the next moment, dragging Allegra in along after him with a jolt.

Silent and staring, the petite Ravenclaw kept a tight grip on Adam's hand as they were ushered into the house. Instantly, the music seemed to double in volume as soon as they entered the residence, and Allegra was able to see just how many young people were attending this event. There must have been at least a hundred of them in plain sight, and that was just on the first floor! Who knew how many were upstairs and out in the backyard, it was hard to tell past the dozens of bodies chatting and snacking and dancing to the loud music which only seemed to get louder the further they got into the house.

Allegra remained quiet, wide-eyed and rather alarmed as she did her best to keep the kitten in her jacket pocket quiet and calm. Luckily, little Eloise seemed to trust her enough to not try and jump out or anything, remaining settled in her pocket and watching the party with equivalently wide and alarmed eyes.

After a very brief interview with the alarmingly tall and broad-shouldered owner of the hand that had dragged the couple inside (“Oh you’re not Peters. Who’re you?” “His, uh… brother.” “I thought Jeff didn’t have brothers…” “I mean cousin! We just—we’re like brothers.” “Oh. Alright, come in then!”), Adam walked alongside Allegra through the foyer and the insane amount of teenage bodies deeper into the house. However, lively and interesting as the party and its members seemed, the boy was oblivious to it all, his attention in one place only - the buffet table. Could you blame him, though? They hadn’t had any proper food all day!

Without hesitating for even a second, Adam was already making his way to the table, as if it had been set up especially for him and Allegra. Once there, he released the girl’s hand and, without the slightest concern for good manners, grabbed and devoured everything he could find.

Allegra was so distracted by her surroundings that she didn't notice the food until it was literally right in front of her, finally looking ahead of herself as she found her hand released and her feet at a stand still. Instantly, relief flooded her expression as she was distracted entirely from the concern she felt in being where they clearly didn't belong. She, much like Adam, didn't waste much time before filling a plate with food from the buffet, mostly pizza and chips and other types of food common at such kinds of parties. She hadn't realized how hungry she'd been until pizza was right in front of her and she seemed to realize she hadn't had a proper meal all day. Soon enough, her plate was empty and tossed away, her stomach filled as she found her place against the nearest wall, watching everyone around her with vague, hesitant fascination as she waited for Adam to finish eating. She couldn't deny the food was convenient - she'd never been happier in her life to see pizza! And yet... now that her stomach wasn't the main issue, she seemed to once more be aware that they were in an unknown house with with unknown people.

She was just about to voice this to Adam, who was still rifling through the buffet table just a few feet away, when a random young man approached her suddenly. "Heeeeeey, wallflower, huh?" he drawled, bouncing ever so slightly to the tune of the music as he leaned a hand against the wall she was currently standing against. Eyes wide, Allegra, as she so often did, remained silent. Confused, the young man let out a booming laugh. "I'm Patrick! Wanna dance or something?" Allegra blinked.

Adam was, as usual, doing a pathetic job at blending in. It was difficult to ignore the guy who’d devoured half the buffet when guests returned for a second slice of pizza only to find that two whole pies had magically disappeared. It also didn’t help that, without even realizing, he had become the team captain’s mysterious cousin-brother-relative, which piqued the curiosity of those who actually knew Jeff Peters. But of course, Adam’s mind wasn’t on any of this as he finally turned away from the buffet, content and ready to finally explore his surroundings.

Spotting Allegra only a few feet away, the Slytherin smiled and made his way over to her. “Hey did y—” “Heeeeeeey” And just like that, the sight of his little Moon had become the unpleasant sight of a curly-haired young man wearing the team’s jersey. Whether he was actually part of the team or a supporter was difficult to tell. Adam came to an abrupt halt only about a foot away from Allegra and the new guest, blue eyes widening slightly. Wha—what the hell did that ‘Patrick’ bloke think he was doing?! Of course, instinct told the Slytherin that the sensible thing to do was to shove the other boy aside and snatch Allegra away, but… that would probably create a scene. And a scene would lead to Adegra’s inevitable expulsion from the party and their only chance to find food and perhaps muggle money or a place to stay, or something.

“Patrick!” As if someone had just hit the play button, Adam snapped out of his moment of thought and approached the couple, a pleasant smile on his expression. “Merlin’s bea—My God, I haven’t seen you in years, mate,” continued the amazed boy, his left hand quietly but without hesitation finding its way around Allegra’s. “Do you remember me? Jeff’s cousin?” Before Patrick could give the obvious answer to that, Adam quickly went on, “He’s gathering the whole team out in the backyard. Something about a speech or… something. I don’t know. You should go though, they’re all there, I think it’s pretty important.”

Patrick was, of course, understandably confused as another young man he'd never seen before approached him and began speaking as if they'd known one another for years. Brows furrowed and a rather dumbfounded look gracing his expression, he merely let out a nervous laugh as Adam mentioned not having seen him recently. "You're... Jeff's cousin...?" he repeated hesitantly, giving a brief nod of false recognition and a weak smile. He was just about to inquire further, never having heard or seen of Jeff's cousin before, when he spoke once more and announced a team meeting in the backyard. "The whole team!?" he repeated, excitement flitting across his expression. "TEAM PHOTOOOOOO!" the rather dense young man began to holler, instantly leaving Allegra's side and heading out into the backyard, all the while chanting the team name of whatever sports team he must have been a part of.

Allegra visibly sighed with relief at being released from this very awkward interaction, her gray eyes practically sparkling with admiration as she saw her glorious sunshine of a boyfriend once again at her side. "Thank you," she muttered with a sheepish smile, slipping comfortably into her natural place next to him and placing a gentle kiss on his cheek. Eloise 'meow'ed but remained unheard as the loud music continued to practically make the house shake. She caught Adam's gaze with clear curiosity behind her own eyes, her question clear - What are we doing here?

Adam let out a sigh of relief as Patrick almost basically ran off in the opposite direction. Along with imitating Willoughby with terrifying accuracy, it seemed the Slytherin was rather talented with the art of lying as well. But it wasn’t necessarily easy, and he wasn’t sure how many more lies he could make up before the other house guests caught on. The famous Jeff Peters, especially.

But these worries almost immediately vanished as their reward arrived, in the form of a kiss to the cheek from his favourite little person. Turning to the girl with a smile, he returned the gesture, gently pecking her lips. As she silently questioned what they were doing at the house, Adam glanced around their surroundings instead; at the dancing and chatting teenagers, and the dimming lights that eventually died out to be replaced with flashing lights instead. It seemed the party was really just starting.

“We need to get help,” Adam admitted after a moment’s silence, leaning in slightly as he spoke so the girl could hear beyond the loud music. “I don’t know how yet, but… I think we have a better chance here than out in the streets.” The boy’s gaze continued to study the scene distractedly as he spoke, blue eyes slowly beginning to adjust to the new blanket of darkness and sudden bursts of blinding white light. During one of those brief seconds in which the dance floor lit up, Adam was able to see Patrick in the distance, entering the house once again as he must’ve realized there was really no team photo being taken. Wide-eyed with slight panic (though the chances of the other boy even remembering why he was there after all the apple juice he’d had seemed slim), Adam pulled Allegra closer and swiftly began making his way across the crowded living room and to the stairs leading to the second floor.

Allegra listened to Adam's words without interruption, unable to deny his logic. Being in this random social gathering was certainly better than being out on the streets, especially since it was getting darker and colder and they didn't really have much of anywhere to go. Well, aside from the park bench they'd discussed earlier. And so she had to agree that this party was a much better option than continuing to roam aimlessly, nodding silently as he finished his statement.

She was just beginning to examine their surroundings, or rather, attempt to with all of the distracting lights, when she suddenly found herself being pulled away from the wall. Realizing they were headed for the stairs, she quickly grabbed one of the dozens of pizza boxes on the table and carried it easily with her free hand as she held onto Adam with the other. As long as they were already there, they might as well fully take advantage of the food. "Where are we going?" she attempted to say, but her quiet voice was easily drowned out by the music.

The couple had to climb over a number of teenagers that had decided to sit and chat or snog on the steps, making their progress to the second floor landing clumsy and sluggish. Once in the safety of the second floor, Adam looked down for any signs of Patrick, only to find the boy had already become distracted harassing another girl that had taken Allegra’s spot by the wall. He was barely able to make out the girl’s words in the noise of the party, but based on her expression he understood the information she inquired for. As response, he shrugged, his gaze momentarily dropping to the large box in her other hand. “What’s th—” he stopped abruptly as he realized it was an entire, unopened fresh pizza. “Did you…” he trailed off with a laugh, eyes sparkling with admiration for Allegra’s quick and smart thinking.

Without any real plan on where to go from here, Adam turned left and walked into one of the hallways decorated with family portraits and other general decorations. He opened the first door they stumbled upon, only to find it was a small closet filled entirely with blankets. Momentarily haunted by bad memories, the boy closed the door and moved on to the next one. It was locked. Finally, at the very end of the corridor, the door to the last room stood slightly ajar.

“I can not believe she said that! Oh my GOD, it’s ALL over Facebook now!”

“You’re not going to confront her now, are you? Lis, this is so not the time. Your brother’s—”

“I don’t bloody care about him, he shouldn’t have invited that witch in the first place!”

Two girls, one fuming and the other feigning concern while trying to hide a smirk, suddenly burst out of the room. Closely behind them followed a short boy, only about an inch taller than the two girls. “But darling, I don’t think you’ve had enough juice yet! Trust me, it’ll help calm your ner—Oh hello there, handsome.” The boy slowed as the little group passed by Adam and Allegra, winking playfully at the Slytherin boy before disappearing down the corridor after the two girls.

Wide-eyed, Adam exchanged looks with Allegra. He was frozen for a moment, waiting for another overdramatic muggle teenager to burst from the room, but after moments of nothing else occurring, he finally moved forward, fully opening the door into the room.

Allegra followed after Adam without saying a word, mostly because even if she tried she wouldn't be heard over the music which filled the second floor almost as fully as the downstairs. It appeared as though there were people everywhere throughout the second floor as well, leaving their attempt to find space clear of muggles entirely unsuccessful. That was, until they neared the end of one of the hallways and found a room in the process of being vacated. The small Ravenclaw instinctively moved out of the way as two loud girls tumbled from the doorway and towards the second floor landing without seeming to notice them. Rather, it was only their male friend who seemed to notice them at all. Or, rather, notice Adam. Allegra's eyebrows rose as this random stranger very clearly made a pass at her poor boyfriend, barely able to process his words before he was gone as swiftly as the girls.

It was only as they walked through the threshold and closed the door behind them that Allegra's laughter became audible, trails of soft giggles falling from her lips as she set the pizza box down on the nearest surface. "I'm sorry, should I have left you two alone?" she teased, flashing him a playful grin as her laughter quieted and she took a breath, amusement still shining behind her light eyes. It was then that she seemed to see the room, looking around to find they were very clearly in a teenager's bedroom. Messy bed, dirty clothes on the floor, posters of beloved bands and actors taped crookedly against the walls. One window sat against the far wall, just over the unmade bed, allowing for some traces of light in from the street. Allegra immediately reached into her jacket and pulled Eloise gently from her pocket, placing her on the bed and allowing her the chance to stretch her legs and explore.

Releasing Allegra’s hand to curiously explore the room, Adam turned to the girl as she filled the small space with her contagious giggles. “Oooohh very funny,” a playfully offended Adam spoke, making no effort to contain the smile that lit up his expression.

The Slytherin wandered over to the bed and plopped down unceremoniously. He turned his head to watch Eloise take adorably clumsy little steps, her tiny pink nose sniffing the sheets curiously until she seemed to find a spot worthy of laying down on. She kneaded the soft fabric of the sheets for a moment before, similarly to the boy laying beside her, plopping down and turning belly-up, her paws up in the air. Adam, who’d become like a sparkly-eyed fangirl at this display of unbearable cuteness, fell immediately for the trap, reaching out to tickle the kitten’s soft tummy and being met with sharp little claws digging into his hand instead. “Alright, alright, I’m sorry, I forgot. No tickling. Promise,” the boy immediately apologized, pulling his hand away from her tummy and moving on to gently pet the top of her head instead. She seemed to approve this. “You really do take after your mother,” he teased, flashing Allegra a smile before returning his attention to the kitten, party downstairs and pizza all forgotten.

Allegra merely beamed with approval as tiny Eloise made her feelings on tickling clear, nodding her head in agreement as Adam observed how similar they were. "Well we both agree that tickling is very rude," she explained simply, approaching the pair to lovingly pet the top of Eloise's head approvingly, receiving a purr in response just a moment later. Allegra smiled before turning her attention to the young man sitting next to the kitten. "...Even if the tickling is being done by a rather handsome boyfriend of mine," she continued, leaning across the distance between them to peck his lips lovingly. "What was your name again...? Jeff's...cousin?" she murmured as they broke apart, flashing him a teasing grin as she returned to her full height and began to absentmindedly wander about the room, quietly examining the knick knacks on the shelves and the posters on the walls.

"I wonder who lives here..." Allegra murmured more to herself than Adam, her light eyes entirely distracted by the books on the shelves. She pulled a few down and rifled through them absentmindedly, spotting a notebook laying open on the desk just a moment later and having a good look at that as well. "Chemistry..." she mumbled, vague amusement filling her expression as she distractedly took a seat in the desk chair and began to examine the notes in closer detail. After a minute or two, she stopped making comments, clearly invested in learning whatever this student had bothered to write down.

Adam scrunched his nose slightly as Allegra decided tickling was rude, returning the kiss that followed the comment and chuckling softly when his alter ego was mentioned. Jeff’s cousin. What a lame excuse, and yet it had worked so effectively! No one had even questioned it! For all he knew, Jeff probably didn’t even have cousins, or they all lived out of the country, or something of the sort. Whatever Jeff’s family situation was, the Slytherin just hoped it wouldn’t catch up to him soon. At least, not until he could figure something out about their predicament. Though as of right now, he had more important matters to tend to, like having his hand, once again, attacked by Eloise. Only this time the kitten wanted to play, tackling and biting at the boy’s fingers as best she could, as if this was a mortal enemy she needed to destroy.

Adam became distracted as the heated battle continued, until he let his hand go limp, allowing the kitten to realize she had won. As if thanking him for putting up a worthwhile challenge, Eloise began to lick one of the fingers she’d scratched, the way kittens oftentimes groomed each other affectionately. It was then that Adam noticed once again the muffled music coming from downstairs, which only emphasized the silence in the room. When he looked up, Allegra looked like the perfect portrait of a focused and dedicated high school student.

Psst. Eloise,” the boy whispered to the kitten, though loud enough for the Ravenclaw a few feet away to hear. “I hate to tell you this, but I think your mom’s… a nerd,” he announced this like it was a scandalous secret.

Smiling to himself because it was becoming increasingly clear that there was nothing Adam enjoyed quite as much as teasing and bothering his girlfriend like the very mature young man he was, he got up from the bed. Walking over to the pizza box Allegra had left on the dresser, Adam grabbed two slices. “What’s that?” he asked, peeking over Allegra to the notebook while handing the girl one of the slices.

Allegra was only drawn out of her deep concentration as she heard a 'psst' break through the relative silence, raising her head only to turn and find that Adam was spreading rumors about her to her new pet. She narrowed her eyes at him in return, the smallest hint of a smile behind her lips as they pursed into a disapproving pout. "So what if I am?" she challenged, raising her eyebrows with a smug determination before returning her attention to the work in front of her. Whoever wrote these notes truly needed a lesson in handwriting - she was barely able to make out the print! She practically had to put her nose to the paper, eyes squinting, to understand vaguely what was written. It didn't help that the subject was full of random symbols she'd never seen before, even confusing to the muggles who studied them every day.

Still, she was just beginning to find some kind of sense in the work when a pizza slice distracted her, successfully grabbing her attention. Still rather hungry, she smiled faintly at Adam and took the pizza into her hands, starting to take small bites absentmindedly as she glanced at the page she was attempting to decode. "'Chemistry', apparently," Allegra answered, clearly unsure of what this subject even was or what importance it had to the average teenager's life. "I can barely make it out, though. Whoever lives here has dreadful handwriting."

“Oh. I’ve heard about that,” muttered a thoughtful Adam. “Saw a neighbor crying about it once when I was ten.” It didn’t exactly explain what ‘Chemistry’ was, but it scarred the wizard boy about muggle education for life.

Taking a bite from his pizza slice, Adam looked down at the open notebook again, scanning over the handwriting Allegra was trying to decipher. She was right. It was completely unreadable. The letters looked more like… Ancient Runes or something equally headache-inducing. “Do you suppose it belongs to one of those girls that were here earlier?” Though he couldn’t imagine a girl honestly being that sloppy with her handwriting. “Or perhaps that… guy.”

Allegra merely grinned as Adam wondered aloud whose handwriting it was, vaguely considering if it was one of the girls or perhaps even the guy who had vacated the room just before them. Rather hungry, she finished the pizza in just the couple of minutes in which she continued to scan the pages for clues of sense. It was as she finished her crust that she seemed to come to terms with the fact that there wouldn't be any decoding this handwriting any time in the near future. "I sincerely doubt it was any of them," she replied to Adam, slightly delayed in her response as she'd been rather distracted by the task at hand. Pizza now gone, she officially gave up on the attempt of learning whatever this complicated subject was. "I surrender," she announced to the subject of Chemistry and Adam at the same time, closing the notebook and standing up from the chair only to turn around and hop onto the desk itself, now able to face Adam with clear interest on her quiet expression. She swung her legs absentmindedly with a gentle smile on her face, listening to the sounds of the muffled party music from downstairs. Though it was clear her focus was on staring curiously at Adam, a thousand thoughts behind her gaze but none of them vocalized.

It wasn’t until Allegra declared her surrender that Adam began to question how they had become so interested in a muggle’s school studies. Willoughby would’ve been proud of their curiosity.

Adam finished his pizza slice but didn’t go for seconds, still rather full from half the buffet he had devoured downstairs. Instead he watched Allegra stand from her chair, turn, and hop onto the desk. It amazed him how agile even the smallest of her movements could be, how easily grace came to her. As she merely stared at him, no words escaping her lips, the boy took the seat she’d left behind, now a whole foot shorter than her. “What are you thinking about?” he asked, resting one elbow on the desk and using his other hand to absentmindedly trace patterns on her knee. Beyond the door, in the hallway, there were the muffled and heavy sounds of footsteps, as if a stampede had just climbed up from the first floor, their excited voices competing against the noise of the music. Adam didn’t seem to notice, momentarily forgetting the owner of this room could arrive at any minute.

Allegra watched with fascination behind her gaze as Adam took the seat she just vacated, leaning against the desk and beginning to trace patterns on her leg. She immediately enjoyed the aspect of being just a little bit taller than him, a perspective she rarely got to have being her rather petite height all the time. And so she took the opportunity to admire all of the things she loved so deeply about him from a new vantage point. His eyes, his dark hair, his beautiful tattoos, the hint of a smile that always seemed ready on his lips. And it was only as he spoke that she was able to admire possibly her favorite thing about the Slytherin, one of the first things she fell in love with - his voice. Suddenly she seemed to realize it was the first time they'd been alone. Alone today, alone in general... Just, alone. And so she smiled faintly at the question, scanning his expression with some kind of mild determination behind her gaze before answering in action instead of words.

In an instant she was no longer on the desk but instead had climbed gracefully onto the chair he sat in, her gaze never leaving his own. What was she thinking about? The answer was rather painfully clear in the way she approached him, the way her large eyes sparkled as she faced him comfortably, still just slightly taller than him and able to admire his features in the hushed quiet that followed his inquiry. After a few moments of silence, she smiled faintly and spoke, her lips only mere inches from his own. "You," she finally murmured the obvious, the slightest trace of playfulness behind her gaze as their noses brushed. Finally, as if after eternities of waiting, her eyes closed and she allowed their lips to meet in a rather loving kiss, one of her hands instantly coming up to find his jaw comfortably. That was - until she heard the noise outside. The kiss had barely started when Allegra broke apart in mild alarm, sitting up as she heard the first signs of unusual noise. In an instant, the kiss was no longer priority, her attention now on sitting stock still, listening tentatively to the voices in the hallway in an attempt to hear if they were getting closer. Poor Adam. Poor, poor Adam who merely asked a simple question and was currently getting the best possible answer, only to be interrupted by the sounds from the hallway. "Do you hear that?" she whispered to him, light eyes full of mild concern as she looked from Adam to the door and back.

Adam looked up as his drawing canvas suddenly slipped from beneath his fingers, moving to find a new resting place - him. At first his brows furrowed questioningly, then raised surprised, then fell to their natural place, his expressions as always a perfect giveaway of whatever was running through his mind. It wasn’t only Allegra who’d decided to take advantage of the silence and proximity to examine her person of interest, Adam silently mirroring a sparkle of admiration in his gaze. It didn’t matter how many times he’d seen her expression already, admired the perfect curve of her little nose or the fullness of her lips, she was still the most pleasant sight he had ever seen.

And because Merlin and all the muggle gods must’ve been on the boy’s favour that night, Allegra did the absolute kindest, most amazing thing she could ever do for him. Blue eyes closing, Adam returned the kiss she placed on his lips at that moment, eager but gentle and always loving. His hands slipped easily to rest just above her hips, mind in a completely different world, neither wizarding or muggle, when—“Do you hear that?”

By the time Adam’s mind returned to its body and he remembered his name, an entire year could’ve passed. “…What?” he mumbled, puzzled and still distracted. It was as if Allegra had pulled back to practice her secret knowledge of Mandarin with him, as it took the boy another long moment to really register her question. “That’s… there’s a party,” he explained the obvious, still failing to hear the unusual amount of noise on the other side of the door. How was he supposed to be thinking about that when his beautiful girlfriend had just given him the best (though cruelly interrupted) kiss of the entire day?! Not even Willoughby would’ve thought of a challenge this difficult. “I’m sure it doesn’t matter,” decided an unconcerned Adam, gaze falling to the girl’s exposed neck when she turned to look at the door. He leaned in and gently kissed a spot just above her collarbone, obviously not ready to worry about possible intruders any time soon.

Allegra seemed unconvinced as a rather dazed Adam explained that the noise she was hearing was merely the party they'd left behind on the first floor. It was truly unfair that he was such an attractive human being, especially in his delayed reactions to her words, forcing some of the concern to leave her mind as she grew distracted once more by her proximity to him. She listened as he decided it probably didn't matter, a statement which got a faint smile to appear on her expression, though it didn't really help her decode what was happening on the other side of the door. If someone was in the hallway, or anyone was headed towards the door... Well they probably weren't supposed to be in this room at all and if anyone found them there they might start asking questions about who they were and why they were there! Questions they didn't have answers for! And ultimately it was just smarter to keep on the move in the party, so that no one had the chance to truly discover them, and they had better opportunity to stay out of the cold night air for a little bit longer. The logical side of her knew all of these things and was just about to force her out of the chair to make a quick escape with Adam down the stairs, when she felt a kiss just above her collarbone and the logical side of her entirely left the building.

Before she could help herself, she was kissing him yet again, her mind foggy and forgetful of the fact that they were more or less on the run and needed to stay essentially out of sight. None of these things seemed to matter as she once again found herself entirely involved in Adam, once more starting a loving kiss only to have it be interrupted a few moments later by her conscious. It took a while, but eventually she found the strength to pull away. "W-We should make sure...they're not..." she mumbled, honestly a little amazed she had found the strength to break away from him at all. Her gray eyes fluttered open to meet his gaze, smiling apologetically as she used every ounce of strength she had to start climbing out of the chair.

The noise beyond the door was strange to decipher - sometimes it sounded like laughter, other times like shouting, and at one point someone started singing incoherently. All Adam would’ve been able to realize, had his mind been on it, was that the chaos outside was getting closer. Too close.

But the Slytherin’s mind was not on it. Like Allegra had earlier, he seemed to realize just how beautifully unusual this moment was: they were alone. For the very first time, actually alone. Perhaps even more alone than they had been when they snuck to the Great Lake or when Willoughby’s cameras died due to the storm. And that was a freedom they would rarely experience again, if ever again. So, soon as Allegra’s lips were on his again, Adam had officially thrown all caution out the window.

Eyes still closed, Adam’s brows furrowed slightly and he blindly placed kisses on Allegra’s chin and jawline as the girl pulled away. “Right… Yes, of course, we’ll… make sure, yeah,” he mumbled, probably not even aware of what he was saying when he found the girl’s lips again. But, just when he thought he had her back, she was slowly making her way out of the chair and away from him. Adam opened his eyes then, his expression like that of a little boy who’d just woken up from a haunting nightmare. “What—Nooooo, c’mon,” his hands had begun to slip from around her, but he gently pulled the girl back onto him. “Just—one more kiss and I promise we leave. I promise.”

Fortunately - or unfortunately - Adam didn’t have to keep that promise, as right at that second the door suddenly burst open.

When had Adam become the most persuasive person in the world? It was probably merely the situation, but Allegra had never been so convinced out of doing the logical thing before in her life. Perhaps it was the fact that they'd just had the best day of their time together so far, or the fact that they'd snuck away from the competition and every little thing was exciting and new. Or perhaps she just really wanted to kiss her boyfriend. Either way, as Adam pulled her back towards him and promised they would leave after another kiss, the normally logical girl seemed instantly convinced as she nodded her head without even thinking, as if she'd just been waiting for him to pull her back.

Instantly, her lips returned to his own, just barely kissing him when the door slammed open. Allegra jumped just slightly at the surprise of it, her gray eyes widening as she realized all at once that they'd wasted too much time and now they were stuck answering to whoever was behind the door. Instantly she started brainstorming for back stories and explanations they could use to defend their presence at this party, coming up with nothing as her mind was clearly still on Adam and the moment they'd shared just a second before. Luckily for Allegra, the intruder in question didn't seem at all interested in who they were or why they were there. Rather, he was more concerned with another aspect of the scene before him.

"Oh, no." The announcement was loud and unfiltered as the young man entered the room, stepping into the light only to reveal himself as the same one who left half an hour ago with the pair of girls from the very same room. He stood with raised eyebrows, unabashedly staring at the couple, clear disapproval on his expression. "How incredibly disappointing..." It was clear he was referring to Adam and this scene in which he clearly revealed himself to be a taken man, Allegra still practically attached to him as she stared in return.

It was almost absurd how, as the door opened and their biggest fear came true, Adam’s first concern was that this meant the kiss was over. The second was that they’d been caught. Eyes widened with surprise, the Slytherin watched as a very disappointed and familiar young man entered the room. Adam remained silent as the boy walked further into the room, head shaking, and exchanged a look with Allegra.

“What’s, uh… what’s wrong?” In an attempt to act as normal as possible, Adam very slowly began to stand, helping Allegra back to her feet in the process. He pushed the chair back into place in front of the desk and closed the pizza box, all very casually as if, by acting as calmly as possible, the newcomer would forget what he’d just walked into.

“Right now? Everything,” the boy replied dramatically, making a rainbow with one arm as if to emphasize how the entire universe had wronged him. “Lisbeth is out in the yard pulling Bethany’s hair and it’s not like I don’t care, of course I do, I would do anything for my little red velvet cupcake doll, but letting that hag spill apple juice on my favorite shirt was simply more than I can handle.” With a sigh, he sat on the edge of the bed, unaware of the napping kitten nearby. He crossed his legs and arms indignantly, glaring at a poster of Leonardo DiCaprio. “So I come upstairs and Nick is in the bathroom with Alice. He hasn’t returned my calls in weeks, supposedly because he was too busy with exams, but apparently he has time to gossip with Alice in a dirty bathroom?! No offense to Mr. and Mrs. Peters but they really should consider a maid. Anyway, I was OBVIOUSLY not going to wash my shirt off in there, not with THEM there, so I went to the bathroom in the master bedroom and—”

Adam, who remained frozen by the desk, exchanged glances with Allegra, silently asking, should we run now?

“—Soooooo, finally, I come in here and to make this terrible night even worse I find out that Jeff’s cousin is, sadly, already taken by the eyebrow princess.” He sighed loudly, getting to his feet. There was a long silence (if you could call it silence, as the loud music and cheering was still going on just outside, but after all that talking, the room felt like a church), then the mysterious boy approached the couple. “My, they’re stunning! How did you get them like that?” he asked of Allegra, referring to her eyebrows. But before the girl could reply, he had already moved on, “I don’t want you to think I’m bitter - though I am - so I will admit it. You two make a darling couple.” The boy smiled, though there was mischief behind his brown eyes. He seemed like the kind of person that always had a story to tell or a powerful secret to hide.

And, finally, to the question Adam had quite honestly forgotten was bound to come: “What are you two doing here, anyway?” The boy crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow, looking from Allegra to Adam and back. “You should know Angelica doesn’t like when people come to her room. I mean, we do anyway,” he laughed lightly at this, as if it was charming that he and the girls from earlier had broken this rule, “But at least have the decency not to shatter my hopes and dreams on her chemistry homework!”

Allegra couldn't decide if she was relieved or horrified that it was this particular person who found them. Clearly he wasn't as concerned with kicking them out of the party, but he still remained a wild card. She had no idea what to expect from any of these people, and suddenly felt the weight of their secret accumulating on her shoulders. She'd never been around muggles for any extended period of time - never truly had to worry about exposing the wizarding world in any way, shape, or form, simply because she'd never had the chance to! But now, she suddenly felt hyper-aware of the many things they could say or do to accidentally reveal themselves as outsiders in this setting.

She didn't have all that much time to dwell on these concerns, however, as she became instantly distracted by this stranger's pattern of speaking. He was so fascinating to watch - like he was straight out of the moving pictures box! He seemed to hold entire conversations without the necessity of another person, entirely his own universe. Allegra grew distracted from her worries as she watched him, amazed by the sheer number of words he was able to get out in such a short amount of time. She snapped out of it as the phrase 'eyebrow princess' entered the conversation. As if on cue, her eyebrows rose as she was alarmed to be addressed and in such a manner. Suddenly he was approaching them and Allegra took a step back instinctively as if he was some possible danger to her, moving closer to Adam's side as the stranger wondered aloud how she 'got them like that'. Her brows, amusingly, furrowed as Allegra brought up a hand self-consciously to her eyebrows, as if concerned something about them was particularly funny or wrong. But as he called them 'stunning', she seemed to gather that he wasn't insulting her, rather...complimenting her? It was all very confusing as his speech seemed to never end and before she could fully process his words, he had moved on to his bitterness over Adam's being a taken man.

She smiled faintly, unable to hide her amusement as one of her hands slipped into Adam's supportively, squeezing his hand gently. But this smile faded almost immediately as the random teenage young man brought attention to the fact that they were 'shattering his hopes and dreams' on Angelica's chemistry homework. Allegra flushed with color, her pale skin going a deep crimson shade as she recalled the rather private moment he had interrupted. She opened her mouth to respond to his question, to provide some kind of lie to explain their right to be in Angelica's room when... well, she couldn't speak. She could speak but she didn't want to, once again silenced by the presence of a new person, by the discomfort of the situation. Most of the time, in her life, she remained quiet because she wanted to, but sometimes it was purely a fear-based silence, or an uncomfortable silence, one she fell into instinctively around new people. And so as she opened her mouth to speak, nothing came out, and the stunning reality of her shyness became clear once more.

As Allegra failed to provide him with a response, the muggle young man turned his gaze expectantly upon Adam. Caught off-guard by the question, Adam merely smiled and chuckled nervously (something that got their muggle visitor to grow sparkly-eyed over). “Right. Of course—yeah, we just—we…” Adam trailed off for a moment, his gaze momentarily leaving the other boy’s to look around the room instead. On the messy bedsheets, he caught sight of a tiny, sleeping little furball. “We were looking for Eloise.”

The muggle furrowed his brows, amazingly quiet for a moment. He must’ve been taking that time to scan through every guest he knew at the party (which must’ve been everyone), searching for a face to match the name that Jeff’s beautiful cousin had just mentioned. After a minute, he shook his head. “I don’t think I know her.”

Adam smiled, exchanging a glance with Allegra before releasing her hand gently to approach the sleeping kitten on the bed. “This is Eloise,” the boy explained, walking back to the other two and handing the sleepy kitten to her mother. “Our kitten. Well, hers really.”

“I see,” the muggle boy looked from Adam, to Allegra, to little Eloise, then back to the other two. “And I suppose you were just so relieved to find her that you had to have a celebratory snog on my BFF’s class notes, hmm?” There was a hint of playfulness to the accusation, and a corner of the boy’s lips curved into a smirk. Upon receiving no response other than the uncomfortable sight of two very awkward and embarrassed teenagers, he spoke again, “I’m Michael, by the way. Do these beautiful faces come with a name?”
