Katniss Everdeen was sixteen years old when her twelve year old sister Prim was reaped as the female tribute for District 12, in the 74th Annual Hunger Games. When Katniss volounteers, she and male tribute Peeta Mellark are whisked away with twenty two tributes from the other eleven Districts, to the Capitol, where the elite of Panem live and rule. After that small amount of time, they are whisked off to the arena, where there only rule is to fight to the death.
Imagine the book beginning the exact same- Prim being reaped, Katniss and Peeta being tributes, all the same tributes and Careers (Rue, Clove, Cato etc) with one major difference- magic.
Every citizen of Panem is a witch or wizard, and your only weapon in the Games is your wand. Poorer Districts would never have been taught to use their wands, but the Careers would have been taught carefully from childhood.
How would this change affect the Games- and it's outcome?

Katniss Everdeen is the lowest of the low as the hierarchy of Panem citizenship tends to go. After facing the minimal education (none of which included training in magic), she became the provider for her family, and began to hunt illegally with her friend Gale Hawthorne.
When she was sixteen, and her sister Prim was twelve; Prim was reaped as the District 12 female tribute. So Katniss volounteered, and along with male tribute Peeta Mellark, was sent to the Capitol for a brief training session.
It was her first time holding a wand- 12"inches, yew (ironically, the wood of the Hanging Tree) with phoenix heartstring- and of course, her first time actually using one. She had a natural knack for it, probably from her precision with bows and arrows.
She was anxious to get bows and arrows at the Cornucopia, though, for fear of her wand failing.
AND MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOR

When Jacob was just about to say something he saw that Peeta was already walking away. Well ther goes my only chance for an alliance probably. Jacob thought. Now he just sat their. He looked over at the careers. He gave them a back off glare. Hopefully one of them would notice it. He wanted to form an alliance with someone, but he needed someone that could help him. Though during the last three people he would backstab them. The rest he didn't think of yet. He needed someone who was smart yet strong. Stealthy yet can hit like a herd of rhinoceroses. Most importantly can trick people yet gulible enough for him to trick them.
Ainsley was quite enjoying the company of the boy from District Seven. He was quiet, and she liked it. She momentarily watched the ground when she saw two feet appear in front of her. She also got a waft of a deep stench of perfume as the person approached her. Very Capitolish, she thought. When her eyes travelled up, she was immediately startled by who it was. She knew him. He was a Career, from District One, so why on Earth was he talking to her?
Marvelous. Ainsley scoffed and stifled a laugh, but smiled up at the boy nonetheless. "I'll stick to Marvel. I'm Ainsley." What was this? Did he want her as an ally? Would that do her good, or was it just a trick?
"Oh, thank you. My stylist was going for a more..." She looked to the other girl tributes, "...sophisticated look." And she laughed again.
Now.. back to business. She REALLY wanted to ask why he had even given her the time of day. Ainsley was nothing like the girly blonde tribute over there. Glimmer, was her name? The brunette cleared her throat shortly and looked expectantly at Marvel.
He chuckled as the cute girl spoke. "Okay, but I prefer Marvelous" He was having a nice time with this girl but he was thinking if he wanted her as an ally. Thinking very hard his answer was no. Even if this girl was cute she would never be up in his league. Only one girl was and that was Glimmer. He then looked down at the girl and spoke. "A sophisticated look? Really? You still look nice though."

So far I know there names, and that the boy from district one specializes in spears and tridents. As for me I specialize in traps, climbing, and long ranged weapons. What do you specialize in?"
Uh! This boy was not good looking. Well not as good looking as himself. After he had talked to Ainsley the girl from the lame district he heard a secretive voice coming from this way. He had been trying to listen to his, Cato, Clove and Glimmer's conversation. How rude! You never make Mr. Marvelous angry! "You know I can HEAR YOU!" He roared at the shorter boy. That's what you get when you get him angry but since this was the hunger gmes he would kill him, himself!
Peeta suddenly heard a loud voice yelling at someone, 'I can hear you', he knew the ease dropper he had been talking to only moments ago had been caught. He made a mental note to not allign with the ease dropping kid if he wanted to live. He then looked back to see it was a teen no bigger then himself being the tough guy. Perhaps he had a chance after all. He looked back to Katniss and said quietly, ”Everyone here has a special talent. Some better then others depending on their upbringing. We are district 12, I don't have a special talent as far as I know. Do you?”.
Lily rolled her dark eyes. She'd been silent so far, but decided that it was better late than never. To talk to Careers. Was this little boy deliberately trying to get on the wrong side of Marvel? If that was true, he was an idiot. The tribute would personally kill the boy. He was actually talking quite loud, for a quiet, secretive voice trying not to be heard by a certain group of already allies who were now certainly going to kill him, soon as possible, probably the very minute they got into the arena. Well, Marvel would. The things some districts named their kids. Lily was ordiary enough to blend in for a while.
Lily slowly and nervously approached the group of Careers. She didn't actually feel like one of them yet, and knew Marvel's temper from the eavesdropper and his response. "I'm Lily," she said, uncertainly, "District 4." She could swim like a fish because of her home, not that there would be any swimming needed in the stupid arena. The odds were not in her favour. Not at all. And the Careers would probably hate her for some stupid, snobby reason.
Jacob saw that he got caught. Uh oh that's not good. All though I could use this to my advantage. Make it seem like I'm not that powerful by approaching him, but in the areana or training center I'll show off my true skills. So then they might consider me into the career group. Then I'll get him alone, and have a personal fight with him in the areana. Jacob thought. Jacob got up out of his chair standing at his full height. (Forgot this in my bio, but he's 5' 8".) Then he approached him. "Yeh. So you got a problem with that "Marvelous"? I may not be as good as you, but trust me you'll see what I can really do."
Thresh couldn't help but smirk as the male tributes from 1 and 6 began to square up to eachother, why some of the tributes thought that attempting to intimidate eachother before they had even entered the arena was beyond him. He gave the two boys a look of contempt before turning away from them, with the comfort that he could easily take both of them in a fight.
Celeste smiled at the girl named Rue and said Nice to meet you, yes your right, District 8 home of textiles... She chuckled and looked where she was looking to see a boy who well was scary and the scary scary not one scream but like a hysterical crazy scream! She said Wow...Hes erm scary... She looked down at the butterfly and said I love buterflies too but they dont come out much in District 8 I guess its to stay away from all the noise...
"Scary? Who, Thresh?" Rue questioned with a tinkling laugh. "He looks scary, but he's really not. Unless you have to face him in the arena..." She shuddered slightly. "Anyways, tell me about yourself."

Now the boy was being deliberately stupid. Lily smirked. Her long hair was tied up in a bun and she wore a long, blue dress with sequins on it. So many it was itchy. And horrible. The blue was probably to represent the sea, and the sequins were shaped like tiny starfish. She didn't like the look. Jeans and comfy t-shirts/bathing suits suited her personality better. In District 4, you learnt how to swim as soon as you could walk. Lily's family were quite wealthy and she'd learnt a lot sooner. Swimming was what she did. The large lake in the forest was her territory, everyone knew it and didn't dare come near. That was at home. She sighed.

He began thinking about exploring the woods of his District the smell of pine trees, the mountain that could be seen outside of their district. He always wondered if the mountain is in District seven, he had never been to the gate but he was always curious about the mountain.
Until... Something brought him back reality, to the cruel world he's living in. He turned towards the girl, which next to him, with a small shy smile. He even maneged to say, "H-Hi." Usually he would try avoid making contact with strangers, but this a different situation. He needed to meet someone from another district, if he wanted to survive the first few days, he had to form a small ally with someone else. But both of them kept their lips sealed for a few moments, until she began talking again. "Yeah, it does. Probably even in this room there are cameras recording us, showing us to the Capitol citizens." Surprisingly these words, even though he said them softly, came out of his mouth easily. Roland was proud of himself.
Again both of them were quiet. The boy from District 1, Marvel, popped up out of the blue, why was talking to them? or at least to he? The Careers were their biggest enemies, they were the main killers of the Games, they were Capitol pets. Roland preferred not looking at him, so he looked at his Capitolish watch instead. It was so modern so fancy so expensive. How could his designers afford all of these stuff for a boy they only know met. But then the boy remembered, here everyone can afford everything so for them money isn't an issue, like for the districts.
Marvel seemed to be nice. Roland didn't trust him, he still didn't even dare to look at him. The only reason he's befriending with other tributes is for the others to believe he's friendly, and at the arena he'll kill them with no mercy. As a warning, for the girl sitting next to him, he nudged her with his leg, so District one couldn't see his warning. Hopefully she doesn't trust Marvel either.
The boy seemed very shy and possibly 'away with the fairies' at the moment. Ainsley didn't blame him. These games were enough to send anyone to insanity. She had even heard that some of the previous game winners were now locked barking.
She guessed it was kind of like.... going to war.
Ainsley offered the boy a smile, just to make clear that she wasn't looking to find an enemy in him. She didn't want to find an enemy in ANYONE, but one look at those Careers would tell ya that it is next to impossible. The brunette nodded, "I'd send the middle finger to 'em, but, you know... Sponsors, and that." As much as she didn't want part of this, having sponsors was her survival. She sighed, "I'm Ainsley. District three." She felt that the introduction was now necessary.
As Ainsley reluctantly engaged in conversation with Marvel, she felt a small nudge on her leg. She didn't physically respond, a skill that she would probably need to require in the games. She got the feeling that the boy did not think talking to Marvel was a good idea.
She agreed.

She frowned, "I'm guessing you prefer the circus look?" Her eyes averted to Glimmer again. OOOOOOOOOOPS. Ainsley ignored his further compliments.

Katniss snapped back to reality, and frowned at Peeta. She kept her voice low, and leaned in to Peeta, to ensure no-one would over hear. "I'm good with a bow and arrow- and I can hunt." She swallowed, trying to think of something he could do. "Hang on, I've seen you lugging bags of flour almost as big as you; surely that counts for something." She said, scratching her head slightly, looking around. "Any potential threats?" She asked him, not even thinking to ask about potential allies.

Ah there was another career. He had been waiting for the District 4 tribute to come. Marvel thought to himself bout district 4. Should they take the girl from district 4. Why not? They were trained in District 4 so that was good.
As he approached the girl the eavesdropper from District 6 had said something which was most likely rubbish.
"Hi Lily!" he said with a nice smile. "Your a career, come with us?" he said offering her while the others agreed or disagreed.

This boy was SO annoying. He remembered there was a boy at his school that couldn't stop criticizing, well this boy reminded him of the boy from his district. As the boy spoke Marvel raised an eyebrow at him. The district 6 boy could never make it into the career pack and have more luxury, the district 3 girl could but he couldn't.
Marvel thought for a while on what he was going to say. Standing at his full height like the boy, he was 6'3" and a bit he was towering the boy. "Actually I do have a problem! Didn't your mum ever tell you that eavesdropping was rude?" he said with a heap load of attitude.

Marvel had a somewhat cold look at the girl. He was actually going to ask if she would consider joining the career pack and live, but he guessed she didn't. Marvel just walked away from her if she wasn't nice to him he wouldn't be nice back. He was trying to get along with her but she obviously didn't want to live.
Jacob saw that he stood at his full height to. Jacob still wasn't intimidated. He wasn't easily intimidated. To be honest Jacob might be the one that lands on top, and he might so happen to win this. Which if it came down between Marvel, the district 5 girl, and himself he'd personally make sure he got to kill him, and not the other one.
When he heard him speak he kind of just smirked at him. "Well fine! And no my mum never told me that because she died when I was not even 1. She died because of this bloody arena! So did my dad. The next year he died because someone assainated him!" He said with a lot of attitude back at him.
Dude. The Pensevies aint got nothing on you. Aslan is the God
Glimmer stood at the side, arms folded and eyes rolling like marbles. Honestly, these other districts were so savage and uncivilised that it was unnerving. And boring. Besides, Glimmer couldn't afford to let Marvel get into a fight and get disqualified. Once more, she rolled her eyes, surveying the area. No, no one was important. Well, the girl from district 3, but she just looked...homespun, and the girl from 4 that Marvel was talking too.
Glimmer strode forwards, pointy heels smacking off the floor making a sharp clicking sound as she arrived at the boy from 6. For a few seconds she stared at him in the eye before leaning forward and whispering "rules may not count for us, but they do for you" her eyes glinted as leaned even further towards his ear, her breath tickling his cheek "you'd do well to remember that 6" she finished, disgust flooding her tone as she said his district, before straightening up and patting him on the arm "good boy" she smiled patronisingly, before turning away

Jacob turned to the girl who just whispered in his ear. "And who might you be? And don't touch me." He hated being touched by someone else. It just ticked him off. Good boy? Was he some sort of lost mutt that wondered somewhere, and now he was told to do something and got called a good boy. Oh boy. It is going to be a fun time in the arena. He couldn't wait to release all the anger out, and take it out on others.

Seneca Crane watched the tributes, and narrowed his eyes as alliances and indeed, hostilities. He had thoughts on all of them- and narrowed out a few as well. But he didn't like to make his rash opinions public, for fear of underestimating a winner, being wrong and embarrassing the Capitol.
Bad idea.
So he clapped his hands loudly. "ATTENTION! ATTENTION! Would each tribute please make their way to the table on your left. Females on the red side and males on the blue. Yes, that's right.
Try and talk to the people sitting closest to you!
Katniss swallowed, and walked towards the table, releasing Peeta's hand as she searched for her name, and found Katniss Everdeen enscribed on a small white piece of parchment at the end of the table in a cursive green handwriting. She gave a small smile as she realised she would be sitting next to Rue. She frowned as she realised she would be across from Marvel and Cato. She sat down carefully, her eyes on her plate.
Jacob turned when he heard Seneca announce to go to the table to the left. He went to the seat on were he was supposed to be seated. Good. None of the careers are by me so I don't have to deal with them and there nonsense. Jacob thought. He saw that he was sitting by the district boy and girl, the district 8 girl, the district 5 boy, and his partner.

The sharp clapping coming from Seneca Crane sent a shudder down her spine. Ainsley looked up at the horrid man and gave him a discreet glare. It was HIM who would inflict so much pain on each of these tributes this year. This man deserved all of the hate.
Ainsley stood up, and felt a bit helpless when her seat was not by Roland. She had only known him five minutes but felt he was the only sane one here so far.
She smiled for the cameras, and picked up the trail of her dress as she walked to her given seat. Next to District 2 and 4.
Brilliant. Careers.
She sat down and sighed, but with a smile.

Finally! Now they could sit down. His long legs were getting pretty tired standing up and talking to annoying people. He saw the seating. It wasn't that bad, the closest to him were Cato, Katniss and Rue. He looked at them. Katniss looked the strongest out of all of the poor districts. Which was quite weird, poorer districts normally didn't have strong people. His eyes looked at Rue, he felt sorry for her in a way but eventually one of the careers would kill her. Maybe him though.
He looked over at Glimmer. He also felt sorry for her she had to face the district 12 boy; Peeta and the strong looking Thresh from District 11. Thresh looked like he could win this, he had a big build and looked quite strong. But he knew either Cato, Glimmer, Clove, Lily or himself would win since they were Careers and like it or not the winner would be one of them.
It was time to talk. He couldn't stand not talking. He was a lud, loud person though. So he turned to Cato and said "What do you think of that boy?" pointing at Thresh.

The man with silly beard called and asked them to sit at there. Cato lazily walked to the blue table. He sat next to Marvel and the boy from District 3. The blonde guy eyed to the District 12 girl.
Katniss Everdeen
And the little girl from District 11 was there too, the girl that climbed the ceiling. Though she looked little, but Cato didn't want to underestimate her. It seemed interesting. I'm looking forward for the Battle.
Then suddenly Marvel asked him about the boy from District 11. He was as big and muscular as him, his face looked dangerous too. "Seemed like he could be one of the strongest here." he whispered. "Keep an eye to him."

What a sudden change of attitude from dear Marvel. But she wanted to live, at least for a while, so Lily nodded her head at whatever he was saying, lost in her own curious thoughts. The sharp announcement from the Crane person brought her back to reality with a thud. She headed straight to sit down in her designated seat. Brilliant, next to the girl from five and the girl who Marvel had been talking to. Easy to judge. Sarcastic and a goody two shoes.
Lily smoothed down her dress before turning to the red haired girl from 5. Looked sneaky, sly by the look on her face. Operated alone, clearly. "Nice outfit." She wasn't sure whether it was or not, really. She wasn't the fashionista type of girl, not at all.
Peeta smiled hearing Katniss say that she had a talent with bows and arrows. He remembered the time he saw her with a bow and saw her pin a flying squirrel to a tree. Now that took talent. He smiled even brighter hearing her tell him about a talent of his, stregnth. He had lifted bags of flour since he was a little boy helping his parents with their bakery. He never thought of it as a talent, more a necesary thing that was required of him to have worth in his family. But perhaps it could be a talent in the Hunger Games. Before he could respond to Katniss he heard a shrill womans voice and looked to see that she was dressed in the most redidiculous pink and purple get up that he had ever seen. He remembered seeing her when his name was called for the Hunger Games in the first. He heard her order the boys and girls to seperate based on color to either side of the table. Peeta just gave the woman a look but he knew better then to not obey the elite. He went to his side of the table and found his labeled seat. He was thankful that it was not far from Katniss but still he kept silent for now not wanting to offend the elite anyway.

Then suddenly Marvel asked him about the boy from District 11. He was as big and muscular as him, his face looked dangerous too. "Seemed like he could be one of the strongest here." he whispered. "Keep an eye to him."
Katniss narrowed her eyes at the District One and Two boys. Marvel and Cato. She resented the way they looked at and spoke of the other tributes- they spoke as if they were mere obstacles. Nuisances that needed to be removed in order for their pleasure.
Well they would have to kill each other too- after all, there would only be one victor. It also annoyed her that they didn't even acknowledge her's or Rue's existence, other than a glance. Arrogance. That's what it was.
Her hand went over her right shoulder suddenly, to reach for an arrow. But she felt nothing but air. Of course- Cato and Marvel weren't rabbits or deer. They were people- no matter how arrogant. And also she had to remember she wasn't in the arena yet, and would have to be more careful and controlling.
She cleared her throat, and looked forwards, her grey eyes burning into their faces. She was the girl on fire- and she would win. For Prim, for District 12, for Gale, and for herself.

Seriously when was the food ready? In order for him to stay healthy he needed a lot of food. Maybe because in District 1 his parents always bought him healthy food. He needed some meat on his body and these Capitol people weren't good at that. They were awfully eccentric too. Did they care if they were weird?
Marvel nodded to Cato's answer. "What about the girl in front of me Katniss Everneed?" he said reading the name upside down. "And that little girl Rue?"
Peeta could over hear just about all of Cato's and Marvel's conversation. Something about a district 11 boy being strong and some girl named Rue. Then they memtioned Katniss and he turned and asked, ” What about Katniss?”.
