Ezra was born as one of only two children brought about by Lawrence and Sebrina Carmichael, a short-lived marriage of one year which only resulted in arguing, divorce papers, and, well…Ezra and his twin sister Drew. Growing up with a blatant understanding of his home life, Ezra has never known anything other than the reality of divorced parents. He has multiple siblings that have resulted from his parents’ other relationships and marriages, including an older brother (Lowell) who came about from another short marriage of his father’s younger days, prior to meeting Sebrina Glynn. He also has two younger half-brothers (Travis and Emile) who are the result of his mother’s second marriage to a man named Christopher Arnold, who became his step father when Ezra and Drew had just turned 12.

Ezra remains very close to both of his parents, splitting up his vacations from school between the two of them equally. Often he and Drew are separated during holidays, one parent taking “claim” to at least one of them to keep it “even”. It’s rare to share a holiday meal with his twin, and a near impossibility to share any meal with both of his biological parents in the same room. As a result, Ezra doesn’t spend incredible amounts of time with his sister outside of school, but is relatively close to her despite their extreme differences in personality and interests.

Ezra is a remarkably good student. He takes pride in his marks and values no class over any other – all are important and valued in his eyes. He often throws himself into his work in order to make sense of the world around him – everything makes sense when put through the lens of grade percentages and class rankings. He’s particularly gifted at Muggle Studies and History of Magic, the latter of which he shares a passion of with his sister. At times, it seems to be the only thing they have in common besides the gold tint to their eyes. When they were young and traveling back and forth between parents and families, they would often distract themselves by reading history books to one another and re-enacting the most exciting of the plots. This, of course, mostly ending when they reached the age of ten and other, separate, interests became more prevalent in their lives.

Some might call Ezra precocious in his intelligence, but he would shrug that off as his fellow students’ jealousy of his intellect. He’s smart, and he’s certainly not about to hide that to spare another’s pride. He cares very deeply about those close to him, despite his habits of not showing it, and carries himself through the world with a hard shell of facts and knowledge. Often a loner by choice, he has no difficulty socializing when he chooses to - most often with the Arithmancy study group and an extra-curricular club he started called: “Modern Day Magic in Comparison to Muggle Magical Conspiracies: A Discussion” (fondly referred to as MDMCMMCD). It has four members, including himself, and barely anyone but his best friend Herschel shows up to the meetings anymore…

Surprise, surprise: Drew’s background is very similar to her brother Ezra’s. Coming from a pair of parents who were only together for a year of her life she can’t remember, Drew is used to adapting to whatever home surroundings are thrown at her. Ever since her mother’s settling-down with Christopher, things have been a little bit calmer (though she still screens her father’s constant cycle of new girlfriends, ever the protective one). Still, despite her father’s bachelor ways, “home life” is relatively calm in comparison to how it was during childhood when both parents were dating and constantly introducing the twins to new potential step parents. Her mother has finally found the right marriage, supposedly, and her father is never going to attempt settling down again – that’s enough closure for her. Fair enough. Benjamin is a free spirit.
No, seriously, he’s a free spirit, so much so he spends more time with the House ghosts and cracking jokes with Nearly-Headless Nick than interacting with his real-life classmates. Ben is exhaustingly laid-back, the kind of person that seems able to walk on air due to the lack of stress or worry pressing on his shoulders. Without a single care in the world, the boy naturally, often has a more optimistic outlook than most of his peers.

Despite his young age, Hugo often feels more like an old man stuck in a boy’s body. He prefers reading and trying out a new recipe for the perfect angel hair pasta to a night out drinking or updating his Facebook status. Actually, he doesn’t even have a Facebook account, or any other social media for that matter. He does have a Tumblr account but rarely uses it. Hugo enjoys reading as much as he does writing, and his all-nighters usually consist of filling page after page with sloppy, rushed handwriting narrating stories of far away magical lands where dragons fly over mountains and mermaids swim in the company of dolphins. The boy has a restless imagination, and usually carries a moleskin journal around to quickly scribble down whatever idea might come to mind without warning.

Though it is true Hugo is more of an introvert than anything else, this doesn’t mean the boy has no friends or has difficulty making them. Due to his laid-back nature and ability to listen to anyone and everyone without yawning or growing impatient, people find it easy to gravitate toward him, no matter the personality, as the judgement-free nature of the boy usually provides them with a safe place to let loose. Hugo is the only son of Magdalene and Henric Holt. The lack of a sibling’s company growing up helped develop Hugo’s over-active imagination. As a child, he had no playmates, as his family usually moved around all throughout Europe, preventing the boy from forming lasting and meaningful relationships with his peers. Hugo grew up creating imaginary friends that, eventually, became the heroes and heroines of the stories he writes in his free time. Hugo does have cousins, though, a whole lot of them actually, but they live across the globe - America, Brazil, Australia, France, and Germany - so he didn’t really get a chance to see much of them growing up. Honestly, Dee and I didn't really anticipate many people joining since our last attempt at a RP *ahem* didn't get much foot traffic, so we didn't post as many rules in the front post. BUT WE'RE SO HAPPY TO HAVE YOU GUYS JOIN US! I'll post more about the general guidelines below.

But, basically with our current numbers we'll probably end up with three muggles (the three users who have already claimed them) and more or less three students to every muggle.

Yes, please! All muggles should be Hogwarts age to keep consistent with the project, which is basically to work with and understand muggle culture at their same age range. Preferably 16-17 as it's obviously an advanced project for older students.

Dee and I are trying to keep the muggle count down because it's technically supposed to be a group project -- i.e. every muggle has a group of wizards/witches studying and working with them. Aaaaand the more muggles we have...the smaller the groups get. And we're hoping to have like group challenges and mini-projects, so the groups are super important!

So we'll keep the muggle cap at three for now, unless 3 other users feel like joining us as magical students and then we can afford to have another.

Basically after all the profiles are up, Dee's gonna divide everyone up into groups of four (three students and a muggle), and post the 'teams' so everyone kinda knows who they're working directly with for all the challenges and stuff. BUT there'll be lots of like socializing events and challenges that involve everyone being together, so the characters aren't isolated into their groups the whole time.

Born to a comfortable, typical pureblood family, Mira grew up to be a fierce little girl that had to throw fuss in order to be heard by her parents over her three older brothers. Her father is a very successful business man with a line of flying carpets that sell decently around the wizarding world. Her parents marriage was an arranged marriage between their families, and her parents learnt to fall in love after marriage.

The family live in an ordinary big house in a Wizarding village near Leeds. Elwin moved to Hungary where he met his girlfriend, and Waldo travels around the world with a master potioneer. Bradley's studying Business in the WU in the St. Petersburg campus. Chad has a strong influence over his three boys, but his big weakness was his little daughter which left her grow up feeling a little lost and flail-y as to what she wanted to do after school.

Bio:
Lina was raised in Melbourne,Australia and an only child born in the Stuart family. Her parents were food business entrepreneurs in the wizarding community. They would often travel around the globe to meet potential clients or business partners. When she was nine, they moved to Britain so her parents could continue their plans setting up a consulting company in Liverpool. Lina loved her parents very much but sometimes she just needed space away from their overprotectiveness. Thankfully, during her years attending Hogwarts, their restrictions on her had gotten lesser and she was able to date whomever she liked, of course not that she had many...she had her heart broken recently from her past relationship with a boy a year older than her. Alice is the adoptive daughter of Jane and Clayton Whitehall, members of a well to do wizarding family in Britain. She is the youngest of five and only adopted child of the Whitehall family.

Being raised prim, proper, and magical she has had little need or reason to interact with muggles. Though that isn't the reason for her disdain about muggle studies. She was found abandoned on the doorstep of a muggle orphanage at the age of three and is believed to be muggleborn though it is not known. Why she was abandoned is unknown, but she has her own beliefs about the reason and carries a chip on her shoulder from it.

O T H E R : She has a penchant for dark clothing and can usually be seen with a book in her hand. She can't stand public displays of affection and dislikes being touched. She dances only when she thinks no one is looking. She plays piano and has a metal charming hobby.

Day One
The Welcoming Party

FINALLY, the day had arrived! After weeks of explaining the assignment to his students, it was finally time to begin the project. Professor Willoughby had had quite the time getting this whole scenario past the administration, assuring them that only four muggles were being allowed within the castle's walls and only there strictly for the learning purposes of his many students. Each muggle would have two to three students assigned to them for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, it would give the Hogwarts students a chance to meet, interact with, and possibly befriend real muggles to get a hands-on experience for the class. Secondly, the students would work as sort of chaperones in some way to help the muggles through the magical school -- surely the poor non-magical teenagers would have many questions and need assistance to avoid danger through the grounds. Third, the groups would serve as teams for the challenges he himself would make and present to the students in class -- challenges in which they would need to work together, muggles alongside wizards, to complete and win points!

Professor Willoughby was beside himself with excitement; it wasn't often that this kind of opportunity came along and tonight was the night it all began! It was a Saturday night in mid-April, almost exactly a month away from the last day of school, and he had gathered all of his Muggle Studies students in his classroom for a welcoming party for the four muggles here for the project. Each muggle had been invited exclusively into the magical world and offered the opportunity to stay in the castle for a month for this educational experiment, with the assurance of their secrecy. Each of their parents were given the illusion that their child was safely away at a summer camp, so as to assuage any potential parental concerns. Once they had agreed and signed a waiver, they were transported by Willoughby himself into the castle (earlier that day) and had since been waiting in his office to be introduced to the class.

Finally, around seven o'clock, Willoughby was positive all of his students were in his classroom and he closed the door behind him with a smile. He turned to find his group of young witches and wizards already milling around, listening to the party music playing, eating the snacks he had gotten from the kitchens in preparation. "AHEM. May I have your attention everyone," he spoke clearly and someone turned the music down to better hear him. "In just a few minutes, I will be bringing out the muggles to introduce them to you all. Now..." he paused, scanning the room with a critical eye. "I urge you all to remember that they are people, not guinea pigs for you to poke and prod for your own amusement." He wasn't all that concerned with most of his students, but there were a couple out there... He scanned the room and spotted Colin Doherty not paying the slightest attention to his words, spreading cheese across some crackers and stuffing them into his mouth. "Are you listening Mr. Doherty?"

Colin jumped, turning as the class looked at him, his eyebrows raising at suddenly being called out. He spoke through a mouth full of crackers, "Righ'. Lil' muggles, not guinea pigs!" he affirmed that he had been listening with a thumbs up, and Professor Willoughby sighed with a brief nod.

"Alright. I'm going to announce your groups before I bring them out, so you all have a chance to get into your teams and get acquainted..." he pulled a scroll of parchment out from his robes, unrolling it gently before clearing his throat.

"GROUP A, will be...ahem:

Miracolina Haubert and Colin Doherty!

GROUP C, consists of:
Drew Carmichael and Benjamin Scott Thorne!

GROUP D, leaves us with:

He put away his scroll for the time being. "Now these are your current pairings. You will be getting a muggle for every group. They are your companions in this project -- you are to learn alongside them, as equals. I won't be putting up with any precocious attitudes or entitlement in this project. This is about learning from one another. Be respectful." He eyed the group as a warning before slowly approaching the door to his private office, where the four special guests were waiting. When he returned, he returned alongside four individuals whom he politely told to stand before the class with a warm smile.

"Class, these are our special guests!" he announced with a grin, gesturing to the four muggles beside him. Sensing it might be easier to get the groupings out of the way, he continued, "I'll let you all do your own introductions when you're mingling in the party, but for now, I'll just announce you by name so everyone's acquainted." He gestured to the first guest, "Everyone, this is Remy Cooke," he announced cheerfully before turning to the muggle girl herself, "You'll be with Levi and Lina, right over there," he gestured to the Levi and Lena so the girl could head over to her group and begin introductions.

"Next, this is Hugo Woodrow Holt," the Professor announced, "And you'll be with Miracolina and Colin, right over there." He sent the young man on his way towards the two students in question. Colin waved him over as if he couldn't tell where he was going.

"Next, William K. Dodds! You're going to be with Drew and Benjamin, right over in that corner..." he gestured towards them and Drew gave a polite wave of the hand, sensing the young man might be nervous.

"And finally, Mr. Matthew Tufte, you will be grouped with Ezra and Alicia and Alice, right over there..." Once all of the muggles had been introduced and divided into their appropriate groups, the Professor gave a large smile to the group as a whole. He had already explained the purpose of the project to the muggles in the last couple of hours, ensuring that they were comfortable with the assignment and understood the intention of the class. They had already been made aware of why they were there. Now, all there was to do was mingle! "Once again, welcome to our special guests!" he smiled. "Tonight is just for mingling, getting to know one another. Please, eat and drink and get to know your groups and others! Monday, the true assignment begins." He grinned before slipping away to turn the music back on and grabbing himself a cracker or two.

And then, the class was left to mingle.

Lina couldn't contain her excitement, wiggling in her seat like an excited puppy. She kept glancing towards the door, wondering when would the professor introduce the muggles to them. Come on...come on...professor, this wasn't the time to go on and on in your lecture. Bring out the muggles! Then, they were told who they were paired with in this project. Levi? The prefect? She eyed her house seventh year prefect behind her. Hmm...Mr.Popular going to be her partner eh...well...that was totally fine with her as long as he kept his end of the bargain. No way, she was going to do the progress report on her own. Yup. Nope. Nah-uh. Lina gave him a wave,"Yo partner." *Cue Wink* before returning her attention back to the professor.

Oooohh....how incredibly thrilling! Lina heard a lot of incredible things about muggles from her Aunt Valera but she had never met one in her life. Finally, the muggles were out! Woah...they looked...absolutely....normal and seemed kind out of place in the classroom. She stood up and went up to the 'Remy' girl so she could introduce herself, she held out her hand,"Hi, I'm Lina...nice to meet you, Remy." She grinned, hoping the muggle was a friendly one.

Hugo felt fidgety. Despite it being spring, the night was chilly (or maybe that was just his nerves bringing a shiver down his spine); to avoid the cold and his fingers from tearing apart the hem of his sleeves, the boy stuffed his hands in his pockets. He stood beside the two boys and girl that had been all his company for the past few hours, dark eyes taking in the sight of the group that stood opposite to them.

So these were… witches and wizards?
It sounded horribly cliche and he almost felt guilty for the thought, but Hugo had half-expected them to be all dressed in pointy hats and carrying brooms and cats. Instead, they looked like… Well, they looked like regular teenagers, actually. If he wasn’t aware of the situation, he would’ve easily confused them for… What was the word they used for people like him? Muggle? Hugo furrowed his brows slightly as the word echoed in his head. It was rather funny. Borderline offensive, really. Like a name for unique species of guinea pigs.

The boy, who had been looking up at the high ceiling, taking in all the posters featuring “muggle” artifacts, looked down as his name was called. He looked at the professor, then over at the two people he gestured him to. Miracolina and Colin.

Hugo wasn’t usually THIS much of a nervous wreck, but he couldn’t help the restless hammering of his heart in his chest. He was in the presence of witches. And wizards. People who could perform magic and lived in a world where, at least it seemed, ANYTHING is possible. It was… Well, it wasn’t easy to take this all in at once, to be fair.

“N-Nice to meet you, I’m Hu—” Hugo held his hand out but stopped abruptly. “Well, you already… know…” He smiled apologetically at the handsome young man and the pretty girl. Did witches and wizards even shake hands? Was there a special form of greeting that they performed that was totally unknown in his “muggle” world?

Alicia passed her left hand over the length of her knee-length baby-blue designer dress, ridding it of any wrinkles, and used the other to hold a champagne glass filled with apple juice. She had enchanted her naturally straight blonde hair to fall in carefree waves around her smiling face. Alicia had moved toward Ezra when the teams were announced; she took a sip from her juice and spoke softly in his direction, though her blue eyes remained glued on the four muggles, “Willoughby has really outdone himself this time.” This had to be, by far, the most… creative exam he had ever come up with. Right after that crazy competition he’d hosted earlier where he locked up a bunch of kids in a muggle-style home without their wands.

The Gryffindor’s smile widened, further revealing her pearly whites, as the professor introduced a muggle by the name of ‘Matthew’ to her and Ezra’s team. She gave the boy a little wave as he joined them.

It had begun raining outside.
This was the fourth day in a row where it began raining after 7pm.
Classic spring weather, really. And, of course, Benjamin was the only student in the room thinking about the weather or tracking its patterns with such concentration. He stood by one of the large windows, gazing absentmindedly at the vast grounds. But as it grew darker outside, the only view he was left with was that of his own reflection, distorted by the rain drops on the glass.

Willoughby was almost endearing in all his excitement, and Benjamin shifted his attention onto the little old(er) man as he announced that he and Drew Carmichael would be studying the muggle by the name of William. What a classic name. Very royal. The kid emitted some good vibes and immediately struck Ben as the kind of person that wouldn’t be unnecessarily difficult.

Without a word, Benjamin opened his arms and welcomed William to their little group with the kind of hug people usually reserved for family members that lived overseas and they saw only during Christmas.

“Welcome,” was all the Ravenclaw uttered as he pulled away, a serene smile on his face.
