HPRP: Of Shiny Badges, Prefect Schedules and Arguments

Audelia is a Ravenclaw, prefect her fourth to sixth years, top of her year and the best female beater Hogwart's had since Olivia Stonewall back in 1986. So, it's really no surprise when her Hogwarts letter arrives with a shiny new badge enclosed. The Head Girl badge. Now, the only thing she needs is to know that a certain Slytherin is the Head Boy to her Head Girl.
Alas for her, Caelum received his Head Boy badge mere moments after she did. Caelum was always the bane of Audelia's existence all through their six years together. He taunts her mercilessly only because he knows that she's the only one who can respond properly. The two can barely share a civil conversation until it turns into a full out argument. He's guessed that she'd probably be Head Girl and honestly? Sharing a common room with her is not a pretty thought.
So what was Professor McGonaggal thinking, putting those two firecrackers together? Who'll explode first? And more importantly, what happens when they both realize that the other may not be as bad as they'd thought.

Delia began to speak when she was less than two months old, her first word was “SHUUUUUUUUUUI!” Flailing around her crib, her mother went to check on her. When she repeated, Shui -the Mandarin word for water clearly- and with obvious effort, Phoebe was surprised. Bringing a milk bottle full of water, she handed it to the child. Delia drank it greedily, as if to prove that she had truly meant to ask for water. Her second word was even stranger, it happened when Phoebe returned one day after having her hair cut.
“WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?” One special baby, no?
Delia's proof of being extraordinary kept showing itself, when she began walking steadily at six months. She even started running at eight. Months. She could read by the time she was 20 months old. When she first saw a broom, she turned it over, and started rambling on how stable it'd be to fly on. Then, she took off on it, swirling off about five feet off the ground on a toy broomstick.
By age two, she learned fluent Chinese, just by listening to her mother and grandmother talking. She was taken to a centre to be tested for extraordinary IQ. Her parents were proven right n thinking that they had a child genius. She had an estimated IQ range of 190 to 280.
A few years later, when her father became an alcoholic, things began to take a turn for the worse. There was little money, and her mother was sorely abused. Every night, Phoebe and her mother's hug on Delia's bed, and Delia'd comfort her mother as she applied salve to her mother's wounds.
When she went to Hogwarts, her mother was alone to deal with her father, but Delia never forgot. Dreams of what he'd done to the both of them haunted her through to her seventh year, even through he died of Alcohol Poisoning in her fifth year.

Hawthorne and Mr. Burke. She nodded towards the prefects and said to her fellow professors Good morning Jennifer and Teddy!

Taking the seat next to Audelia, Cael grinned. He liked freaking her out, even if it meant almost getting hexed. "Oh, stop. You love having me around." He winked. "She's not a nutter. She's a very smart, intelligent woman, who happens to be very good at appointing people special awards." She was a smart woman and he'd never bad mouth her just because he loved sucking up to the professors and playing innocent. It was always good fun.
"Oh, professor, you know me- Just playing around. " He replied with a grin. To get a bit more comfortable, he raised an arm and rested it on the top of the bench. And yes- his arm was behind Delia's head. "No harm done, just making sure Audelia's awake, really. All that excessive studying could be a bit much for a girl her age, you know." He smirked. "She ought to take a break."
He was just about to open his mouth to reply to Leo when he was spoken to and practically kicked out by Professor Hackett. He smirked at the other boy, finding it amusing that the boy was kicked out so quickly. But of course- he'd never say anything against a teacher, no matter what the situation was.
Rolling his head to the side to look over at Audelia, he grinned boyishly. Oh yeah. That's right. I'm head boy. But instead of actually saying it out loud, he stayed silent, just watching her expression because it was truly something photo worthy. He'd only wished that he had a camera. And somehow, he figured that staying silent and touching his badge every so often might just annoying her more than actually speaking.
Now, now. Where was Enzo?

Audelia shrugged. He may not know how she'd gotten private duelling lessons, but she could hold her own even without them. "Thank you," she muttered in relief. Delusional, she was not. But she'd let it slide. Mainly because Caelum was being rather infuriating at the moment.
Waving at Professor Iceshard as she passed, Audelia grinned. "Thanks Professor!" she called at her Head of House.
Audelia didn't bother moving away, she was in shock. Was this some kind of sick hobby? Freaking her out? "Sure I do," she shot back sweetly. "The day hell freezes over." Pulling off the elastic band around the end of her plait, she let it hang lose. She'd re-tie it when they got to the building.
"Of course she is," she said truthfully. "Appointing you prefect was a small lapse of judgement."
Shaking her head, she closed her eyes. "I cannot believe how the professors fall for that," she muttered under her breath. Not realizing that he'd put his arm behind her head, she leaned back against the bench. Her bare skin brushing against his arms, she blushed. "Thanks for the concern, Caelum," she said acidly. "But I'm fine."
He... He was doing this on purpose, wasn't he. She let out a silent plea to whatever god was out there, Merlin or whoever, for her to survive a while year sharing a common room with him. Standing up quickly as a fifth-year Hufflepuff prefect arrived, she smiled warmly. Scanning the compartment and performing a quick head count, she pulled out her wand and shut the soundproof door.
Time skip! Because I don't want to type out Delia giving them a lecture.
The train ground to a final stop at the Hogsmeade station slightly after the usual stop for first-years. Audelia had fallen asleep against Caelum's shoulder about fifteen minutes ago, after briefing the prefects on what they were supposed to be doing. The fifth-years would lead the students to the dorms and the other would be patrolling.
Professor Teddy Dwyer grinned to himself as he plucked a piece of glitter out of his hair. He had happily spent the holidays making greeting cards for the other professors. The sad thing was, none of the cards involved glitter.
They were made out of paper and black marker. He skipped merrily along the train, and sat by himself in a compartment, picking at a couple of chocolate frogs. He unravelled his, and got Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. He jumped up on the seat. "YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" He shouted excitedly, and ran out of his compartment, and almost ran into Professor Hackett. He skidded to a halt a couple of feet away. "Oh, hi Jennifer!" He grinned. "Welcome back!" He handed her her card. "I made it myself." He whispered.
"Professor Dwyer," she said curtly, with a quick shake of the head towards the students around them. Jennifer better not be the only one who he had made a card for. There would be an explosion much bigger than the new Head students future ones. "You have a bit of...glitter in your hair." And all over his face. He better clean up before the feast. There would be a lot of laughs and points coming his way if he didn't. And not just from the students.
The card actually was quite sweet. Jen smiled, a thing she didn't do often, and suddenly hugged him. Oh, God, she just hugged the Hufflepuff Head of House. Crazy. Best to make a quick escape again.

Teddy smiled to himself... until the hug. He didn't like hugs. Hugs were invasive. He coughed uncomfortable, eager to pretend it didn't happen "I know, yeah!" He said, "funny, how that happened. One minute it's marker, next minute it's glitter, next thing it's Cornish pixies in your socks..." He trailed off gleefully, and he glanced down at his feet, and pulled up the leg of his trousers slightly, to revealing his Star Wars socks. He had his 'Monday' ones on today, being Monday. His whole outfit was a little out there, but he was comfortable in it, and he liked it, and that's all that really mattered to him. He turned to Luna Iceshard, the Ravenclaw Head of House. She was also the astronomy professor. "Hi, Luna," He said happily, handing her the same card. "Welcome back!"
When he turned back to Jennifer, he found her running off the train. He raised his eyebrows, wondering if it was something he said. Probably the socks, he thought. He knew some people found them weird. He decided to go and follow, maybe she'd want to see his new Gandalf card. He gestured Luna to follow, and skipped merrily past the students.
Leo had fallen asleep in his little compartment and was laying flat on the long seat cushion. When the train came to a screeching halt Leo's body moved ever slightly and his head hit the wall jolting him awake. He quickly got up and rubbed his head. Were they at Hogwarts already? He looked out the window and saw the familiar Hogwarts drop off. He exited the train and boarded one of the carriages and was soon off to the castle. There he headed downstairs toward the Slytherin dorms. He had remembered reading something about doing patrolling when he arrived at Hogwarts and that was the location. Something about making sure the first years could be found if they wandered off. There he waited hoping to see something interesting. And if not Leo felt right at home at Hogwarts. Just being back in his old stomping grounds is what he had been waiting all summer for.

Vincenzo had spent most of the train ride in sketching, trying to ignore the unusually loud chatter coming from almost every pther compartment. Yeah, yeah, another wonderful term at Hogwarts. Not that he wasn't eager to get back, Hogwarts was home now. It's just...was it necessary for people to carry on like that. It really did his head in.
As the train came to a stop, Enzo gathered his things and headed for the door. He was quite curious about what had gone on in the prefects' compartment, especially knowing Caelum and Audelia's relationship. No doubt there had been some witty banter and awkward moments between the two. It was clear despite their outward unpleasantries that they liked each other. Though Enzo didn't care enough to start on Cael about that. His mate could be as ignorant about the subject as he liked. Love was silly business anyway.
When Vincenzo finally did arrive at the castle, he headed for his dormitory to put down some of his things before heading to the feast. Perhaps he would actually bump into some friendly faces.
.... She'd fallen asleep on his shoulder. What was that all about? He eyed her sleeping figure, not sure what to do about it, but decided that he'd let her sleep. But then the train stopped. So now... "OI! Sleepyhead! Time to wakey wakey!" he grinned, shaking her gently. Scaring her in her sleep? What a rare thing. He'd never pass that up, even if his better judgement told him otherwise.
So. Now he'd have to wait to gather his things until she finally woke up and got off of him. He liked to mess with her, but he wasn't about to push her off of him, that would just be rude.

Jennifer went straight to the staff table when they arrived at Hogwarts. Oh, no, she had to sit next to Teddy. Last year, she was just annoyed with his endless chatter and Hufflepuff-ness, but this year would be plain embarassing. She'd have to try and come for meals at different times from the Charms professor to 'avoid embarassment'. Yeah, but she was still stuck for the Welcome feast. She'd be alright at the last one, because there would be Slytherin flags everywhere. Jen was quite glad she hadn't taken points of the boys on the train.
After scowling at the First-years who looked too happy (and obviously wouldn't be Slytherin), she took her place at the Staff table, sitting straight and prim, and quite scary too. Poor kids who had to do Potions that year. The Purebloods always did best and were top of the class, in Jennifer's opinion. She nodded to the Professors already at the table. A bit later, she'd have to go and tell all her new ickle Snakes what she expected of them.
McGonagall wasn't really an old nutter, but sometimes she did things that made you think she was one. Like the Head Girl and Boy that she'd picked. To work together. It was just crazy. Neither were bad kids, in fact they were role-models, but they would just wind each other up and it would never, ever work out. Ever. It would take a miracle. Or a love potion. But like that was going to happen.

Nympha bounded off the train, she had forgotten to go to the Prefects Compartment to see Delia. Instead of going to the going to the castle, she waited for Delia to come out. She wondered how long she would take...She hadnt seen her all summer, which was a rare thing. Again her parents tried to make it up to her and they took her and Caro to Australia...
Luna took the card from Teddy and said Thank you! She exited the train saying Hello to her favorite students. When she got off she saw Nympha she asked Are you waiting for Delia I think I saw her...Laying on Caelum Nympha must have not liked that because she stormed into the train...Sighing Luna walked towards the castle smiling and talking to some of her students. The first years werr intrigued by her outfit and others just gawked... She sat next to Jennifer on the staff table and said Hello Jennifer, how was your summer?
After hearing what Professor Iceshard said she couldnt help herself she ran back into the train and into the comaprtment, Why are you laying on him?

Alex ran a hand through his hair and felt slightly uncomfortable. He'd almost missed the train and then couldn't find any friends so he had had to sit with some bratty third years who'd flirted with him and then one of them had fallen asleep on his lap. Creepy little twirp. He stood up quickly and the girl squealed and it the ground with a thud. "Bye!" Alex sang before grabbing his trunk and heading off in the direction of...well no direction he really just wanted to get away from the bloody third years.

After setting up his stuff in his dorm beside an empty bed and Enzo's he hurried to the great hall. He could see Enzo and Leo a little bit a head of him. Alex broke into a run and pushed Leo slightly out of the way - he never got on very well with him - and slung his arm around Enzo's shoulders. "Heeeeeey!" He batted his eyelashes teasingly at his friend before rubbing his knuckles into his head.
"Man I am starving," The Slytherin captain moaned rubbing his stomach dramatically. "So how was your summer Enzo?" He walked into the great hall and breathed in the gorgeous smell of food. Taking his usual seat at the Slytherin table he started loading his plate full of chips, chicken and almost everything in reach before almost drowning it in gravy.

Why was it that a freind of his did not even notice he was there when he was right next to Enzo. Perhaps the past could bite him in the but. He had blamed Alex on a few things as early as 6 months into last year but he thought they had found some solace in all that, or atleast he thought they had. Delia smiled slightly in her sleep as images of knights and white horses and fairy tales -Yes, she has dreams too- and the knight was just about to remove his helmet when she was rather rudely awakened. Blinking blearily, she mumbled "Five minutes," under her breath before realizing whose shoulder she was lying on.
Jumping off she bench and onto the floor, she started blushing wildly. "I'm so sorry," she gasped. "I was just tired and I didn't realize we'd reached..." There was really no point explaining herself, he'd never let her live it down. "Thank you for waking me up."
Great, now Nympha had to barge into the compartment. "I'm not," she pointed out. She was standing on her own two feet and was in no case laying on Caelum at the moment. "But I did fall asleep during the ride. I'm human you know," she added icily.
"I'm sorry," she apologized, wrapping her best friend in a hug. "Come on, we've got eating to do." Walking off the train, she turned around to face Caelum as she exited the compartment. Mouthing 'Later,' she allowed Nypha to drag her to their house table.

Luna took the card from Teddy and said Thank you! She exited the train saying Hello to her favorite students. When she got off she saw Nympha she asked Are you waiting for Delia I think I saw her...Laying on Caelum Nympha must have not liked that because she stormed into the train...Sighing Luna walked towards the castle smiling and talking to some of her students. The first years werr intrigued by her outfit and others just gawked... She sat next to Jennifer on the staff table and said Hello Jennifer, how was your summer?
After hearing what Professor Iceshard said she couldnt help herself she ran back into the train and into the comaprtment, Why are you laying on him?
Teddy beamed at the new students. The first years, the potential Hufflepuffs. He fumbled in his pockets and took out a couple of his famous cards to give to this year's Hufflepuff Prefects. Sadly neither the Head Boy or Head Girl were from Hufflepuff, but he could live with that.
After handing them out, he waved at a gaggle of other professors, and opened his case. As a professor, it was important to wear a cloak. This year's one was inspired by his favourite books, Sherlock Holmes.
He walked up to the Head table, and sat in his designated seat between Luna and Jennifer. He peeped at the back of his chair, which was engraved in cursive yellow, 'Prof. Edwin Dwyer; Hufflepuff H.O.H.'. He sat down, and gave a little wave to the Hufflepuff table, his Gandalf card still tightly in his palm. "Are you all excited for the new term?" He asked, as he drew smiley faces on the silver plate in front of him.

Phew, she wasn't the only one he'd made a card for. He must have been very busy, doing them for his Prefects, too. Like Jen would do anything like that. Even for Caelum, who she did have a soft spot for. He was always one of the top students in her class since his first-year. Didn't look like there were any ickle ones like that this year, such a shame. There was Teddy, waving at the kids! But he was the one with welcome back cards for each and every professor.
Couldn't the head make her speech? Jennifer was hungry. And moody. And grumpy. Like always. She saw the Huffie head looking at his name in his chair. She turned round to do the same. Yuck. The wrong green. Not a Slytherin green, a lime, cheery green. McGonagall really was off her rocker, she'd always got these things perfected before.
"Nice cloak," she smirked, eyeing Dwyer up and down. Was it a tradition? A different one every year. Although Jen had to admit she liked his taste in books, she'd expected him to be reading Mr. Men ones or something. Little Miss Hufflepuff, or whatever it was called. It would be amusing to see his nose in one of those.
"I'm excited about hammering Hufflepuff - and everyone else- in the House cup. That's pretty much it." That brought a smile to her face. Little, unusually sad little Huffie faces while Slytherin banners hung everywhere. It must suck for the other houses, being against them. The Quiddich cup would be won too, excellent Captain and, hopefully, team, this year.

After setting up his stuff in his dorm beside an empty bed and Enzo's he hurried to the great hall. He could see Enzo and Leo a little bit a head of him. Alex broke into a run and pushed Leo slightly out of the way - he never got on very well with him - and slung his arm around Enzo's shoulders. "Heeeeeey!" He batted his eyelashes teasingly at his friend before rubbing his knuckles into his head.
"Man I am starving," The Slytherin captain moaned rubbing his stomach dramatically. "So how was your summer Enzo?" He walked into the great hall and breathed in the gorgeous smell of food. Taking his usual seat at the Slytherin table he started loading his plate full of chips, chicken and almost everything in reach before almost drowning it in gravy.

”Awe, what do Enzo's eyelashes really matter. And oh yeah, it must have been fun looking after you're, little wizards in training. My summer was actually rather interesting. I recieved a letter from the Ministry of Magic that stated I have been accepted to auror school after Hogwarts provided I get decent NEWT grades. I was shaking as I read that letter. I know now that I will never have to return home to my disfunctional family again and I am gonna do something great with my life.”.

She took out her wand and gave a flick, now it was right Professor Luna Iceshard Ravenclaw HOh and Astronomy Prof., and in the prefect shade of blue...Luna gave out a laugh at her friend Jennifer and said Im sorry to tell you but, Slytherin wont be winning, have you seen our Keeper, shes a keeper. Nympha Tides. Ravenclaw shall win! I played on making Nympha a prefect but Minerva told me it would be best to get a sixth year as Nympha would already be busy Sighing she looked over at Teddy's plate and saw him drawing happy faces on his plate and she pointed to win and said Thats my favorite!
Nympha smiled and said Oh sorry for jumping to conclusions, its just Professor Iceshard said you were. Its was erm..pleasent...to see you Caelum... She glanced down at his headboy badge and said ...congrats on your Head boy ship... She hugged Delia back and said Yes we do. She whisked her wand and made her things mini, she didnt really feel like going all the way to the commom room and everyone knew better than to mess with her room that she has had since first year and if they did! They reached the Ravenclaw House Table and asked You dont have to sit somewhere else do you?

With a quick look towards Teddy who was drawing happy faces on his plate, Jennifer added, "I doubt that Hufflepuff will come anywhere except third or fourth this year." It would suprise her if they did get second. She was pretty sure that the order would be; Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff. But maybe the Lions and the Badgers the other way round.
Straightening her skirt, Jennifer stood up, left her seat, and walked down to the Snakes' table. First, she went to the Head Boy sitting quite near to the head of the table. "Burke. No doubt we WILL win the cup, I assume?" She didn't mention the little scene on the train. With their Prefect team, there was no doubt about it. She resisted the urge to say 'Show 'em no mercy!', even though she really wanted to. Jen nodded towards the other Slytherin Prefects, before walking over to their Quiddich captain. "We WILL win the Quiddich Cup. It's up to you to make SURE we do!" You have to be firm sometimes.
Then, she went to the Head of the table and knocked on a silver platter to get their attention. "Welcome back, everyone. This year, we have some excellent Prefects and a remarkable Quiddich Captain," Jennifer said to each and every Snake. "This year, as usual, we WILL win the House Cup, and it is up to ALL of you - especially Prefects - to make sure of that!" That was the end of her little speech. Hopefully it would scare the ickle 'uns. She walked back to the Staff Table and GLARED at them all.

Audelia stifled a giggle as she tried explaining and shook her head. Her shrunken trunk already in her pocket, she bounced her way to the Great Hall. Passing the Slytherin table and Caelum, she flopped herself into a seat near the front of the Ravenclaw table. Beaming widely at the first years, she waved at all the future Ravenclaws.
Minerva, on the other hand, was eyeing the two heads suspiciously. Audelia seemed to be ignoring Caelum rather sucessfully. They hadn't blown each other up yet. Good. Of course, she did expect a few explosions this year, with those two working together...
Turning to Teddy, who sat next to her as always, she smiled. "Were there any explosions on the train this year?" she asked curiously. The prefect compartment especially. Now, the Sorting. Watching as the first years went up to the hat, she smiled. Sorting was her second favorite part of the feast. But her favorite was the food, so once they were sorted, she stood up from her ridiculous chair.
"A good evening to all of you. To all new students, welcome. To all returning students, welcome back." she smiled, nodding at the students in general. "Now, I am well aware that you are all hungry, so dig in."
"And any food fights will be rewarded with an outrageous number of house points taken away," she thought before sitting down. Food.
Beaming at Professor McGonaggal, Audelia began putting food onto her plate. There was just so much to think about, Head duties, how not to end up strangling her co-head, things like that. But just for a while, she'd forget about it and eat.
She had enough to worry about when they got to their common rooms, anyway.
I actually LOLed so hard at the Mr. Men books *rofl* :'D

Teddy took of his cloak and hung it on the back of his chair. He raised his eyebrows at Jennifer. "I doubt that, now." He said knowingly. "I have a couple of, ah, tricks up my sleeve." He wiggled his eyebrows mischievously he had been practicing.

"I know. I'm supposed to, actually. I bought it in London at this market thingy. A small shop with a lot of old people in it." He paused. "Old people can be irritating, can't they? I mean, not all the time. But this one fella started hitting me because I picked up some book he had his eye on." He laughed nervously for a moment, but stopped at the mention of Quidditch. "Well I'm planning on re-shuffling my team. There's this fifth year called Morgan Llewellyn- I'm definitely going to make him beater- he's like a bloody oak tree." He began to laugh again, as he looked down at the boy with a sigh. He looked down at his smiley faces. He looked at Luna's favourite and grinned. "Oh good! Because that's you."

Teddy leaned back over to McGonagall. "Erm, no. Well, I don't know actually. I was hungry- I wasn't really paying attention. God, I'm starving-" He took a couple of potatoes, some steak, a couple of chicken wings, a little salad, a goblet of pumpkin juice and a slice of ham. "Anyway, I heard an actual explosion in the back of the train. Some fourth years planted a stink bomb on the trolley. Gryffindors," He added, pursing his lips to hide a smile. "I would have given out to them- but they executed it perfectly. So I gave them five points for effort."

"Tricks?" Jennifer scoffed. "Yeah, right." Were hanging his coat on his chair/wiggling his eyebrows some of those tricks? Or was it teaching first-years a charm for second-years similar to them? She wiggled her eyebrows back. It was an art. And took a lot of practising. All Summer, anyway. Because she didn't have anything better to do, sadly. Unlike the human card-maker machine.
"I heard that!" Jen snapped after returning to the table. "And - in case you didn't notice - I wasn't the Head of House in 1978, and we didn't have this amazing Prefect team!" Just pointing that out to him. That suited her just fine. But she wasn't going to admit it. "Charming," she chuckled.
After eavesdropping accidently hearing Teddy and Nutter's conversation, she snarled at him, suprised it wasn't Puffs that he'd donated points to. "You need to give more discipline, Professor." Then Jennifer turned to Nutter. "Headmistress, there was... a slight incident in the Prefects' compartment." Surely she'd been expecting one?
He stared at her, eyes wide. Was she serious? Five more minutes? Funny, Delia. Funny. But she should get off of him. Seriously. Even if he kinda was alright with it. But he wouldn't admit it to himself. No way. He raised an eyebrow as she leaped off of him, "Yeah, yeah. Don't mention it." he stared at her. "Seriously. Don't." He didn't exactly want anyone to know that he'd let her fall asleep on his shoulder. That would just be... weird
But then- Nympha joined them in the compartment. Oh lovely. Now the world would know, wouldn't it? Or at least all of Hogwarts. Nevertheless, he greeted her with his usual flirty antics. "Hi there, Nympha," he winked, as he stood to gather his things. Having nothing better to do, he watched the two's exchange, silently waiting for them to get out of his way so he could leave and catch up with Enzo and Alex. No doubt they'd have interesting stories to tell him from their vacations. But then Nypha addressed him, so he had to respond. Again. "Thanks. I'm glad someone things it's a good thing." He eyed Delia with a smirk before squeezing past them.
