Overview
Cursebreaker Suresh and museum curator Advika first met while attending Wizarding University in Mumbai, both smitten at first sight with one willing to admit so and the other showing some reluctance. Time was all Advi needed to come to come to admit she in it for the long haul with the man who never ceased to charm her. They began to date, going on to later be wed and are now enjoying their lives in their relocated home in Wales, Great Britain.
This is a CLOSED RP exploring the lives of Suresh and Advika Nadeem.

HISTORY:
Advika was born to Ishir and Idika Yadav in Mumbai, close enough to the Aurangabad ruins where they were living for her dad’s archeological research. From a young age, Advi was taught to love the past. Ishir would bring his wife and daughter with him to work - where he would teach his young daughter all about ancient history, give her small brushes to ‘assist’ with unearching rocks while he pulled up treasures (under the careful eye of her mother). A passion for history and ancient artifacts was established and she’d decided at age 8 she wanted to pursue something similar. Advika, born to two muggles, had had no idea of her magical heritage and intended to go to muggle schools to study - but at age 11 she received a letter from Koldostov inviting her to study there. She was not interested, and wanted to just attend muggle school, but with great difficulty her dad was able to figure out there were other options for her - such as an exchange program at Castelobruxo in Brazil.
Advi was still nervous to go, even more so now that she would be traveling so far from her parents, but the amazon rainforest where Castelobruxo was located held such promise of ruins and study that most interested her, she decided it was worth a shot and agreed to go. She spent the majority of her first year pouting, as the ruins she’d been most excited to see ended up being the magic castle she now called home and a ruse for non magical like she had believed herself to be. But as the year went by, she found a passion for the different subjects offered as a witch - particularly an interest in the foreign languages and ancient runes.
By the time her first term ended, she was in love with the school without a doubt in her mind she would be returning. And such went on her school years, with friends coming and going and every summer spent taking muggle classes in order to keep her options open in terms of higher education. She knew she wanted to do something founded in archeology, but was torn between journalism, participating in digs, or research on what had already been unearthed. Curse breaking was something of interest for her for a while as well, but she steered away from that the more her interests focused in research and journalism.
By the time she had graduated, Advi had decided on Euro-Glyph School of Extraordinary Languages where she would major in Hieroglyphics and minor in a journalism program offered. For her study, she chose to remain in South America and relocated to Caracas, Venezuela in order to attend the campus there. After two uneventful years of study, she applied for a few internships and was astounded when she was offered a paid position assisting at her Dad's old dig site. She accepted immediately and put in for a transfer to Wizarding University in Mumbai to finish out the remainder of her studies. The best decision, as this was where she met her now husband, Suresh.
Now that the couple has moved to Wales, Advi found herself a position as a researcher with the National Museum of History, specializing in hieroglyphic translation.

Now there was a thought that probably wouldn’t hit Suresh for a few months {unless Advika brought it up before} but then he would only be picturing himself having to deal with a stubborn wife and child. Or children because what if all their children inherited that adorable but sometimes frustrating stubbornness Sweet wife did have a rather good point but he would argue that his stubbornness had come in handy. Yes, please! The family could wait until tomorrow. “I have no doubt that you will! It’s going to be quite an exciting event.” Sur was grinning like crazy just thinking about it. Oh, the family was in for a treat!
As long as Advika had confidence in him, then he’d have a high level of confidence in himself. Ahh, such a cute giggle as always. “That’s true,’’ the man remarked with a mock exasperated sigh. He squished the wife carefully. “How about this? I carry you to the dining room then we figure the rest out from there?” Without waiting for a response, Suresh had her in his arms {much as how one would carry their new spouse across the threshold} and he was heading out.
She simply would have agreed with his point in that regard. Suresh's stubborness HAD been handy, very much so, as without it there's no way they would be where they would currently. Sur's stubborness had been good for them, Advi's had been their roadblock. There was one that was leaps and bounds better than the other. "Should we take bets on who will cry the hardest out of our family?" Themselves included as well, of course. She'd been emotional as it was telling her husband. She could hardly imagine the excitement and hormones that would come with telling the parents.
Her husband was the only thing she thought worth a high level of confidence such as she had. He had not let her down in their time together, and she was certain he never would. Suresh was the kindest, most driven, smartest individual she knew. And perhaps that opinion came with a little bias, but some of those traits were also what had made him so irresistible... and that had been pretty bias. At the suggestion of carrying her, she nearly laughed but would have offered a teasing agreement, except before she could do so he'd already scooped her into his arms. With a small squeal, she wrapped hers around his neck, planting another kiss on his cheek. "My Knight in Shining Armour."
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Okay, that got a really, really hearty laugh out of Suresh. The idea was one that he instantly fell in love with. “We should! I’ll go with my mother.’’ His second bet? Well that might be Advi’s mother. Or would it be both mamas equally? They were both such crybabies over the happiest of occasions. Then again… “I think you would give her a run for her money though. All those extra hormones are bound to make you over sappy. Okay, that’s it! I’m changing my bet. It’s going to be you, sweet wifey.” Suresh was going to stick with this!
Advika certainly had that correct: one of his main goals in life was to never disappoint her in any way and he aimed to keep his spotless track record. In all truth, it was quite easy for him since he was always motivated by the strong love they shared. Let’s just say that Advika was always enough motivation for him. And that was exactly why he was holding onto her so carefully. “Always,’’ he replied, smiling happily at her. Did she know that she was as light as a feather? Sur didn’t feel any of her weight as he carried and eventually set her down at the dining table. It was then his turn to give her a kiss on the cheek. “Do you start eating double portions now?” he half teased, half wondered seriously.
Honestly, she was having a hard time choosing just one so instead Advi was more than happy to just listen to Suresh’s reasoning and opinion. His mother was a solid choice. Her own was too. Although she still also thought her dad could also be in the running, the teddy bear he had always been. But her? “The idea of my different hormones have certainly not fully sunk in… maybe i will be the worst of the group!” She giggled at his words, giving a small shake of her head. “Maybe you’ll surprise us all and it’ll be you.”
She certainly didn’t think she was light as a feather, but there was something romantic about the fact her husband did and that he carried her through the house with such ease. As for holding on carefully? That was something she aspired to do at all times as well - both physically, such as in moments like this, and emotionally. She gave him a small squeeze, and another kiss, before he was lowering her into her chair and she waved her wand to serve them up. “Is that permission? Because absolutely.” And with that, she gave herself a little extra.
Nothing could replace the evenings together like this, though this one just happened to be extra special.
Scene V Winter 2110. In which Advika and Suresh have to navigate pregnancy mood swings.
Pregnancy. Was. Hard.
When Advika had first learned of her little girl’s existence, she had been so excited. Telling the family, planning early, readying the room… she’d had her birth plan drawn up for months and she was just barely into the third trimester. And she WAS still excited about her girl.
But what she hadn’t been expecting was the lack of sleep, the constant discomfort, the new acne from the added estrogen in her body. And perhaps the biggest of all… how horrible to experience the mood swings actually were. Her poor husband must have been regretting choosing her for his wife now - which usually just made her go from angry to sobbing within minutes.
She felt a lot of guilt. And a lot of anger. And a lot of just wanting to sleep.
Which was exactly what she’d been trying to do, but the minute she’d laid down, baby couldn’t stop bouncing on her bladder so she was forced to give up - get up - and waddle her way towards the bathroom, slamming doors behind her as she went.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Suresh was just as excited, just as thrilled about the little girl growing inside of Advika. He was even more so at the thought of meeting her one day. Oh, he could hardly wait to cradle her in his arms! She would be perfect; with her being a combination of his and Advika’s genetics, how could she not be? The only thing about this new journey the would-be parents were experiencing that Suresh hated was the glaring discomfort Advika experienced. He secretly felt rather guilty about not being able to do more to help.
But as far as regrets went in marrying her? There was none. Zero regrets. Absolutely none.
Suresh had left Advika to have some rest, using the time to catch up with the latest cricket match: India versus Australia. The match was still early with India having bowled only five of the twenty overs so far. Sur’s feet were propped up, his eyes fixed in a hawk-like on the screen, a huge bottle of water in hand and a bowl of snacks on the couch beside him. It was at the precise moment that the first wicket fell for Australia that he heard slamming doors. Instead of quietly celebrating the small victory for his team, he got to his feet. Sur put down the water and beelined for the bathroom. “Advi? You okay in there?” Was she throwing up? Did she need him to be there for her?
In the grand scheme of things, yes, she was doing perfectly fine. However her sour mood always made everything seem more like the WoRsT tHiNg EvEr, when it was truly minor inconveniences. The lack of sleep she was getting perhaps did not fit that bill, but the mounting frustration with the lock in the door that seemed to be forever getting stuck certainly did. She jangled the door knob as she heard Suresh from the other side, pulling on it as best as she could when the thing wouldn't budge still. She could have used her wand, but who needed to bring their wand when doing something as simple as a trip to the bathroom?
An unlucky pregnant woman, apparently. "The door is stuck." She was attempting to not wail it, but mounting frustration had her voice clearly shaky and whinier than she usually would have liked to hear it. "Can you open it from that side?"
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
With the question asked, Suresh braced himself for one of those cranky responses. He never took them personally. Why should they be taken that way when Advika was under a lot of stress from that drastic rise in hormones, and the fact that she was carrying another human being? What he heard was the fussing that was his wife fighting with the bathroom door. Darn it! He had meant to take care of that but had gotten drawn away because of the cricket match.
Now was as good a time as ever.
“Hang on,’’ he called through the door before dashing back to his original spot and grabbing his wand from the coffee table. Rather than wasting his time trying to pry the door open manually, why not use magic to do so AND fix the issue as well? Back at the door, Sur tapped the knob with his wand. “Alohomora.” The door popped open with a little click and he carefully pushed it open. “I know, I know. I’ve got to fix this door. I’m sorry I didn’t earlier.” Suresh gave Advika a sheepish smile as he stepped back to allow her to pass. “I’ll get right on it though.” Even if she decided to give him a lecture about his delinquency in the matter, he deserved it.
Hearing him shout hold on, probably to retrieve his wand, Advi sank to the edge of the tub and perched herself on it with her hands folding over her pregnant belly. There was a million different ways she would prefer to be able to sit, but the growing mound just made it endlessly difficult. She could feel frustrated tears slipping down her cheek - though in reality she knew it wasn't AT Suresh. He had said he'd fix the door before, but he needed breaks as well between his work and living with the soon to be momzilla that she was becoming.
Which she hated by the way. She hated being so grumpy and difficult to be around. And snapping at the love of her life so often for no real reason.
Seeing the door swing open, she didn't move from her spot on the tub. Though, she couldn't determine if it was because she was wallowing or if it was because it was too difficult to stand up. At his apology, she just gave a small shrug, staring at the ground in front of her. She probably could lecture, but her anger was waning and just replaced with self pity.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Suresh had expected Advika to pass him on her way out of the bathroom, even if she was feeling more than grumpy at him. Then again, he supposed that he shouldn’t have been surprised to see her sitting on the edge of the tub and giving him what seemed {in his view} to be a dismissive shrug. Sur could not see her face clearly from this angle so he moved into the bathroom, still clutching his wand.
Rather than asking Advika to grace him with one of her mesmerising looks, he got down on one knee before her. That’s when he saw all the tears coursing down her perfect cheeks. “I’m sorry about the door,’’ Suresh said again, putting his wand on the floor and reaching for Advika’s hand. He didn’t tell her to stop crying; she needed to get all the emotions out and he was here, ready to be her punching bag or the shoulder she needed to cry in. Suresh didn’t like to see her crying so much but knew it could not be helped. He also felt guilty because he had said was ready for children even if he wasn’t the one who had to go through all the hormonal, physical, mental and all the other struggles that came with pregnancy.
It was so so unfair of her to always be verbally taking her frustration out on him. She knew she snapped at Sur more often than she ever had before, in probably the last month alone. And turning into that type of person just always made her emotions feel even more haywire and made her grumpier still because she hated pregnant Advika. Hated her. She was glad to be pregnant because at the end of it all, they would have a beautiful little girl, but the process to getting there STUNK. She had a hard time imagining ever doing this again, but she also went to a group with other mom’s to be and everyone who was on baby number 2 or 3 assured her she would feel much different on that when she held her little one in her arms. She was placing all her trust on those reassurances.
When Suresh dropped to his knees in front of her, she looked up a little bit, using her free hand to wipe her cheeks when he took her other one. She gave his hand a small squeeze, before shaking her head at his apology. “It’s okay. It’s not really your fault. I could have done something for the door to before this.” Leaning forward, she rested her forehead against his shoulder. “I’m sorry I’m so awful right now. How do you even want to be home and around me?” SHE didn’t even want to be home and around herself.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
It was fine. It was all fine.
Suresh meant it when he said that facing all her frustration and other bad moods didn’t bother him. On a regular day, Advika would never do such a thing to him; he always reminded himself of that. He didn’t envy anyone who was female. The things the gender had to endure… they were to be admired for braving it all.
Suresh was just quiet for the moment. He had learnt it was best to let his pregnant wife say what she needed to then he’d offer his reply. He could not always tell when Adivka may want to vent verbally. Sur even thought that he’d take it silently if she wanted to beat her fists on his chest. “What’s important is that it’s fixed now. I’ll even check the other doors to make sure they’re in tip-top shape. Promise.” Her question made him chuckle lightly as he hugged his wife lightly. “Because I like looking at you waddling around,’’ he joked, knowing fully well the response could blow up spectacularly in his face. “You look extra cute that way.”
It was perhaps the fact she knew that he meant it that made her feel in some ways even worse. Her husband was absolutely the sweetest, kindest, most understanding man that the universe had been graced with. And she'd been lucky enough that he fell in love with HER. And on a good day, she didn't quite feel like she deserved that gift. But currently? She knew she didn't.
"Thank you." She settled with a simple reply, deciding he was right. It was handled and it didn't matter much now to try to assign any type of blame anywhere. The hug made her feel better and she relaxed into it, turning her head so she could rest her cheek against his shoulder instead of her forehead. She nearly felt her heckles raise at the mention of a waddle... but he was right. And he was also being sincere that for some reason, this amazing man still even thought she was cute. "I'm glad you like it. Considering how often I am up and waddling around the house anyways." She could never get comfortable enough to relax. Whenever she did, baby went haywire in her stomach.
Which speaking of, the little gave a particularly powerful kick as she had settled, causing the woman to jerk back a bit with a wince. "I think we have a little cricket player. She is powerful." She reached for Sur's hand, placing it on her abdomen so he could feel baby as well.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
He didn’t know about all of those lovely descriptions but he did know that if Advika thought he was all those things, then it was clear that he was being his best possible self for her. There wasn’t a woman in the world who deserved to have the best husband, even when she was being stubborn or an emotional ball of hormones. What she presently deserved could be put up for debate. However, he had a feeling that such an activity could possibly make Advika dissolve into tears.
“Mhmm you’re welcome, my love.” So while Suresh did not get thrashed by Advika’s fists, he was pleased that she seemed to be taking a moment to reset her emotions. Or, at least, attempt to. The man brought his arms around her and attempted to rub her back in a soothing way, which was lucky because it had struck him a little too late that he should not have mentioned waddles. Suresh actually held his breath, waiting for the explosion he thought inevitable. It did not arrive. He let out his breath of relief. “It is quite a sight. A good sight.” Anything Advika could only be good.
Her next movement sent up alarm bells in him. Was she going into labour? Did she need a Healer? No, it turned out neither of his concerns needed his worry. Suresh looked into that beautiful face, his own filled with awe. “I can feel her.” His voice was filled with wonderment. Yes, their baby was powerful indeed! “I think she’s pretending to whack a ball with a bat in there.” Suresh chuckled at his words. “Does it hurt when she does that?”
She hated feeling so large too that she could not as comfortably fit in the comfort of her husband's arms, but she liked that he still tried. And she knew baby bump would not be forever - it was just a measly few more months until her due date and then they could be holding her outside of the womb. Oh how she looked forward to that day! "Enjoy it while you can. I dare say I won't be disappointed to lose the waddle at all." It was probably a lie - she might end up missing bits of pregnancy, as wild as that seemed now.
She could see the concern in his face, but she just gave a reassuring smile and a shake of her head. All was well. These moments where he got to feel baby moving as well were so special to her, because these were the moments it especially felt worth it. Sur was clearly so excited to be a father, and he was going to be so good at it. "That ball she found is just my bladder, apparently." she joked, only a hint of the early exasperation still present. "It does hurt, but I don't have it nearly as bad as some other women. Some women get their ribs broken because baby is so strong and has a well aimed kick."
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Okay, this was something they could agree on at this moment: Advika not being able to properly fit in his arms. It was as though there was one {or two?} basketball separating them from each other. Suresh kept it in mind that this was only temporary and in no time he’d be able to grab Advi and give her wild but gentle squishes or to pick her up at random and cart her off to random places in their home. “Not to worry, wifey dearest! I’m enjoying all those waddles for the both of us.” As if he hadn’t been making this obvious from the point where Advi’s walk had changed.
As much as Sur enjoyed the waddles, many of the other symptoms Advi was experiencing, he did not. That was why he was always concerned for her, and why he usually needed reassurance that she was okay. It was difficult to watch the love of your life being miserable. At that description of the ‘ball’, he could not help but wince. Yep, that sounded painful alright. “I’ll give her a good talking to about not hurting you, okay?” he promised. “Wait. What?” Suresh had not know that, and as much as having a rib broken because of a baby’s kick horrified him, he couldn’t help but be in awe. “Those are the footballers,’’ he remarked. “Let’s be thankful our baby is a cricketer.” Not that a swing of a ‘bat’ would be less painful.
“Do you need to sit here for a bit longer or do you want to come sit with me? Or lay back down?” Or whatever Advi wanted because she was Queen and deserved it all.
He had been making it obvious from the beginning, and while that had not alleviated ALL of her concerns over her changed appearance - it had certainly taken care of a majority of them. Something in which she had yet to thank him for, though she certainly would once she was normal Advi once again. "Good. Someone should get some enjoyment." she replied, smiling softly at him.
That would certainly have made two of them - though the fact that his concern was still for her and instead of himself when she could be so particularly dreadful, was truly what reminded her all the more how she did not deserve this perfect man of hers. "Excellent. I can't wait." A small smile came from her once more, his words serving as a reminder that soon she would be out and they would truly be in the think of parenting. Something that made her very excited, honestly. She couldn't wait to hold their baby. "Isn't it crazy? I didn't know just how dangerous and crazy pregnancy could get!" And yes, she was DEFINITELY relieved that their little had not managed to do that to her. Although there was still some time left.
She considered his question, deciding that no - she definitely didn't need to be in the loo any longer, but unable to determine if she wanted to go with him or not. Time with the husband sounded lovely, but her exhaustion seemed to win out. "I think back to bed, if that's okay. I think I could sleep a little more again." If baby let her, anyways.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Advi would do well to remember that her current size wasn’t permanent, and she always looked adorable. But Suresh genuinely could understand the frustrations felt by her; witnessing the daily struggles when all he could do was offer words of comfort, shower her with gifts and give into her every food craving sometimes still made him feel helpless. But on the whole, yes. A waddling Advika Nadeem was enjoyably cute.
Suresh couldn’t wait to begin parenting! Though... come to think of it, both he and Advi were doing so even though their little one wasn’t technically brought into the world as yet. After all, they were making sure she was well taken care of. Well, he couldn’t wait to actually hold her and do all the parent-y stuff with her! “I didn’t know either.” And now he was a smidge worried.”What are the chances of that happening, do you know?” Suresh asked in what he hoped was a casual tone. No need to have Advi worried over his worrying!
“To bed then.” Suresh didn’t mind. Aside from returning to watching the cricket match, the decision meant that Advika would get more rest. ”Whenever you’ve found the strength to move.” Or did she need to keep resting against his shoulder for some time more? Whatever worked!
Scene VI December 2111. Christmas time for the family of three.
While this Christmas was not technically Lakshmi's first, Advika was still putting far more effort into it than she had the year previously. Perhaps because the now 1 year old could participate more fully than she would have been able to at just over a month, or maybe it was that she was no longer recovering still from the birth herself. Either way, she had a very fun filled Christmas week planned for them, which started with a cookie decorating on Christmas Eve.
She had spent the evening before cooking piles and piles of sugar cookies and gingerbread for decorating and a batch of Nankhatai as well to box up with the decorated ones later for gifting to the next door neighbors. The counter was spread with the results of her efforts, and different containers of sprinkles and frosting and anything they might need. Granted this project was a lot more work for herself and Suresh, but she was quite certain neither one of them minded.
Satisfied that everything was properly prepared, she checked the baby monitor to see their little stirring in her crib - perfect time to awaken from her nap. One last look and then she was heading towards the nursery, glancing around for Sur as she went.

The delicious aroma was wafting throughout their entire house. Suresh was quite distracted by it and quite tempted to sneak an undecorated gingerbread cookie while Advi wasn’t looking. As it was, he was currently laying out the freshly laundered and ironed Father Christmas suit he had picked up the day before. It was a complete outfit, complete with the beard/moustache combo and the shiny black boots. Yes, he even had the padding for the stomach area. This was a surprise for his little elf - that is, Lakshmi. He could hardly wait to get decked up tomorrow for her!
Suresh had just finished putting aside the costume when he heard footsteps belonging to his wife, obviously. He waited until Advika was directly in front of the bedroom door before pouncing out at her. He aimed to catch her around the waist, while exclaiming, “Got you!” Suresh leaned in to give her a huge kiss on the cheek. “Mmmm! You smell like cookies, dear!” Which, of course, made sense. “Are you off to get that cherub of an offspring of ours?”
She HAD been keeping an eye out for Suresh, as she passed the room they'd added to work as an office space for him after their daughter and she had so rudely claimed his for a nursery. He hadn't been in there working though and so while she assumed he might have been in their room - it was the day before Christmas, so she certainly wasn't going to go poking around any further than cursory glances.
Though passing her room certainly didn't need a glance, as he had jumped out of the room and grabbed her around her waist - causing Advika to startle but also erupt into a fit of laughter. How she loved the silly antics of her husband. "You scared me!" She exclaimed, turning her head to try to catch a proper kiss instead of a cheek one. "I've made … probably more than the entire community could eat. But at least we have plenty for Santa Claus and ourselves." She grinned at him, another soft giggle. "I was. She was just starting to wake on the monitor. Come with me and then we can all go decorate? I might even let you pick one sans frosting to nom on while we work." As if they wouldn't all be over indulging in sweets on this particular eve.

No working today or tomorrow or for the next week {perhaps} for this fellow! It was a time to be lazy with family and Suresh intended on taking full advantage of this. That was why he wasn’t present in his new office space. He, of course, had not minded in the least that Advika had invaded his original space. Anything for their daughter! And for the wifey!
Suresh did love surprising her, whether it be by gifts or by jumping out at her. It simply brought joy upon him because Advi possessed a rather adorable surprised/scared facial expression {not that all the other expressions were anything less than adorable}. When that expression was accompanied by laughter, it was a zillion times better! Indeed Suresh was able to give her a proper smack on the lips when that beautiful face turned toward him. “I promise there will be no more scares for today.” He squished her before laughing. There was so much happiness in their home and he was here for it! “Of course you did. But none will go to waste because everyone loves your cooking and baking.” This was a fact! “You make a convincing argument using the cherub and frosting.” He moved to slide a hand in hers. “Shall we?”
She loved when Suresh’s leave came around near the holidays. Getting to have him home and all to themselves was absolutely wonderful. Especially this year, where they had even more to celebrate together so they could make this extra special for Lakshmi, even if the one year old was probably not going to remember this holiday either. Sometimes, the memories were for the parents too and not just baby.
Actually, maybe MOST of the memories were for the parents until about… 5. But that didn’t bother her.
The scares didn’t bother her, not as much as she sometimes played up. She loved how playful and young at heart her husband was. Suresh had such a lively spirit, it was one of the biggest reasons she’d never been able to stay away from him. Thank GOODNESS. “I certainly hope everyone likes it! I think your opinion of my baking though is probably far more positive than others might be.” She certainly did not have his mother’s knack for cooking! Taking his hand, she gave it a small squeeze before nodding her head in the affirmative to his question. “We shall. And I’ve paid attention, I know how to entice you.” She teased, giving another small giggle. Sweets was usually a favorite, but their daughter even more so now.
Little Lakshmi had been awake for what felt like hours already, in the way that she had no concept of time and it had only been long enough that she’d roused enough to stand herself up and lightly bounce in her crib while she stared at the door waiting for her parents to appear. Her favorite stuffed sheep was wedged between her little body and the wood, it’s head peeking out under hers. She could hear the footsteps coming closer and the sound of her parents voices, and her bouncing got a little more excited. “Ba! Ba!” She could hear her Baba and he was not coming fast enough to pick her up.

Suresh did his best to ensure that he kept most of those leave days for the Christmas holidays. See, he loved Christmas! Always had for as long as he could remember. He had made sure to carry on the tradition of being at home with those he loved even after he had married Advika. Besides, it was very important to make memories with the Cherub, even if she wouldn’t remember a thing. That was okay because Suresh had a phone with a camera; there would be loads of pictures taken to show her later on in life!
Sur tried to be lively for a few reasons: 1. it made his Goddess of a wife happy, 2. he certainly was not on his way to accumulating grey hairs as he aged, 3: it kept him feeling young and wonderful. Besides, it all worked out since he had managed to win over one stubborn Advika. “Me? Be biased when it comes to you? Never!” Okay, maybe he was a smidge biased. No? More than a smidge. Fine, he was way more than a smidge biased. Advi was an excellent cook and baker; after all, she had been taking care of him the food aspect for all these years and doing a great job of it!
He laughed heartily and pressed Advi’s hand to his lips for a kiss. “That you do, my dear. And I love you for it.” Ugh, he could just throw his arms around her and squish her but their daughter awaited. The little Cherub’s voice carried out of her room and Suresh was all beams, clearly radiating with happiness. “Baba is here,’’ he sing-sang in Hindi, moving to the crib but not before pausing to admire Lakshmi’s bounciness. Such cute energy! “Happy Christmas Eve, my little love!” Suresh settled the toddler in his arms, making sure to get the sheep as well. “Are you ready for cookies?”
She was glad it was such an important holiday to him and that they all spent it together. While she and her parents had not had many of the traditions they celebrated now, Suresh’s joy for this time of year was infectious and Advika had been happy to adopt all the ones he already had and make some of their own in the process as well. She was looking forward to in a few years, when baby Lakshmi could be even more of an active participant. For now - the things she could help with were perfect.
She giggled again at her husband’s antics, shaking her head fondly as he denied any bias. Considering she knew she was not as great as her husband very much believed her to be, she knew there was a bias happening. But that didn’t bother her. She only cared about being enough for one, well… two people now, and if they were happy with her that was all that mattered to her. “I love you.” She reminded him, pressing another quick kiss to his cheek. She watched as he kissed her hand as well, before following him into the baby’s nursery- pausing at the door herself though as he continued on so she could observe him and his little mini.
There he was!! Lakshmi bounced at a new excited rate as her her eyes lit up. “Ba! Baba!” She called out excitedly, both little hands now reaching out for him instead of holding onto the railing in front of her. Her sheep was in a little more of precarious position, but Baba wasted no time in scooping them both up and rescuing them both from the disaster of her favorite lovey not being immediately in her possession. Settling into his arms, she pressed a wet kiss on his cheek and squeeeezed around his neck, like she saw Maa often do. At the word ‘cookies’ her eyes turned into saucers before she eagerly nodded her head. “Cookies! Cookies!” she repeated after him excitedly.

That was all the more reason why Suresh was thrilled to have such traditions; it allowed Advika to enjoy all the festivities that came with them. He was always rewarded by watching her dive into the holiday cheer. Just look at her now: cookies had become her thing. Lakshmi would no doubt have a ton of memories from now until her late years, even if she could not actually do much. Suresh simply aim to have her get into the excitement of the lights, decorations and family time for now.
This man would stick to his words: there was no bias when it came to Advika! Just pure love. There were always hearts floating around his head whenever he looked at her. How had she now noticed this? His face broke out with a boyish, over-the-moon smile as though his wife were saying those words for the very first time. “I love you for now and for always.” So what if he had told her so seconds before? Sur enjoyed reminding Advika that he adored her. Kisses were always welcome. Kisses from Advika was one of his most favourite things!
Just where did Lakshmi get all that energy from? And could she share some with him? Because there were so many days when work drained him and energy replenishment was needed. However, it seemed as though they both would be high on energy {and sugar} today. Lakshmi’s big kiss and near death squeeze delighted him; he appreciated and loved all the affection from this tiny lady. “Baba’s here to take you to all the cookies,’’ he continued, nodding along just as enthusiastically. “You and our little sheep friend here.” Suresh bumped the toy to Lakshmi’s cheek before booping her nose with a kiss on his own. “And here’s Maa!” The Cursebreaker jovially carried the tiny human over to her mother though he was going to continue carrying her for now.
